I will never active seek out fighting 3 on 1 in any PvP I play, thats asking for trouble and if any class can survive…its time to investigate. But my next question for you is how you approach the fight, I never active start the fight involving 2 or more, I will always have someone else around to help. While I can chew quite a bit of damage, I can’t deal and absorb damage. 1 v 1’s (or even sometimes 1 v 2 if im on my A game) are usually a death sentence for other players unless they are really good, but even then it takes them a LONG time to down me, due to all the mechanics Necro’s have (Death Shroud, Minions, etc.). I am by no means a “PvP God” or anything close. I just the limits of this character and just try to play the strengths :P
On a side note: Rev is sorta like the combo of several current classes, morphed into one. So naturally its better, or at least the same, in the various roles. lol
-Retired Thief
Wow what? are you trying to be funny. First of all how do you know balance is done on best case scenario. Nobody can pin point how they balance because it is on a case by case basis. I dont think even Anet knows considering how often they have changed direction, especially when it comes to Necro.
Second i dont know if you have joined Anet in assuming practice dummies is a reasonable way of testing but spamming grave digger is not even remotely realistic in PvP, only in PvE, which is why i asked if you play PvP at all. I dont understand how anyone can suggest grave digger spamming (with how slow it is) is a thing and even worse its existence justifies the weapon’s horrible flexibility.
You seem to be one of those that thinks damage is everything. I hate to break it to you but its not. If it was, warrior wouldn’t be seen as such a bad class right now. The only thing that is saving Reaper now is its condi side.
I use a Necro in PvP exclusively with a minion master hybrid. I use GS and a staff and having wicked success doing so. Minions help you tank damage long enough to get the key skills off and offset the insane conditions , plus you get the benefit of condi removal (staff) and the high damage from the GS.
I can understand if you dont like to play how the GS is demanding, however, that doesn’t mean its broken/flawed/etc. Now, before this gets out of control, I will admit their are some problems with QoL stuff, just I dont see any problem with its overall performance in PvP. Its just a different way to play it.

anddddd i’m done with this class.. Its abundantly obvious the nerfs don’t end. Time to salvage/sell all the gear and move on to a different class or even a different game.
-Retired Thief
So I had some gold to blow and I decided to try a condi build with my thief. Here’s the build I’m in the process of building. Thoughts? (This is for PvE. I refuse to PvP with this class.)
-Retired Thief
Can you change the kind of stats it has like you can with the other ascended armor?
-Retired Thief
Lol all of these are why you shouldn’t play a thief!
Honestly, I was searching for all those things after playing my thief for awhile and I fell in love with the necromancer. Worth a try, if you are still searching
-Retired Thief
Being the center of attention is one of the many reasons I pvp with this class. I’m able to hold an entire point while the entire enemy team is there focusing on me, meanwhile the team I’m partied with is just focusing them down one by one.
There’s something to be said about this class when you can get focused my an entire team and able to last longer than like 3 seconds. lol
-Retired Thief
What exactly are you currently frustrated about in regards to your thief?
What are you looking for? These questions may provide more insight so people can assist you.
Nowadays, ascended armor isn’t an issue as you can simply change the stats in the MF. There’s still a cost in doing so but at least you don’t need to craft an entirely new set.
Well I’ve played and leveled other characters, so I’m not really running into this blind, however, I think that over time the thief has gotten weaker and weaker. I want to say that I’m a fairly good player as well so i highly doubt its a matter of learn to play, plus I had a real problem with how this whole deal with the thief’s elite spec. It really feels like they gutted the acrobatics line to make Daredevil. It REALLY feels that way. I love this game and I want to continue playing, just not this class. Lol.
-Retired Thief
Yeah I will prolly keep him as my resident crafter, but I can’t settle on what to pick. Prolly stick to my necromancer since I LOVE them.
-Retired Thief
So I’ve been torn these past couple days about re-rolling from my thief. Now, I’ve been playing one since I’ve started this game like three years ago. All “QQ” aside, I am getting really frustrated/confused/depressed with this character and I think its time for a change.
Normally this isn’t a problem but I’ve invested A LOT of gold into this guy (crafting, gear) and if I change I dont wanna feel like i’ve wasted everything. I understand that I will lose the crafting but between ranger and engineer which do you think is a better pick so I can save all the ascended armor? Sorry if this seems jumbled I’m tired lol
-Retired Thief
The easiest thing I’ve found is Edge of the mists with experience boosters. (You can obtain the boosters via Laurel Vendor, however, be aware that they are only 30 minutes) I jumped my necro from 20 to 40 in a few hours time and I was messing around half the time
-Retired Thief
While I wasnt exactly for the daredevil concept in the beginning, I will say that it saved me from rerolling to a different main. If you’re returning to this game, I would recommend making this your second character but try an “easier” class first. But this class is tons of fun :P Its been my main since this game launched and I am loving it like I first played it. Also! Necro is super fun. I pvp with one and they aren’t lying about taking two hours to down. I can camp the enemy stronghold entrance and it takes almost the whole team working together to take me down, and not because im some pr0 l33t skillz either. Lol. :P
-Retired Thief
Just the fact the opponent can’t crit under this condition makes it totally worth traiting. Plus! weakening strikes makes them do 10% less damage to you. Best trait in that tier, imo.
Depends on the build. Havoc Mastery is pretty impressive. With S/P we run Havoc Mastery since we play the Basilisk Venom->Infitrators Strike->Stone->Pulmonary Impact->Pistol Whip->Steal->Daze->Pulmonary Impact->Mug->Pistol Whip again combo. If they don’t have two stuns break or an Invuln this is a sure fire kill even against hardened opponents before they know what hit them.
If that combo fails to land we reset usually with Infiltrators Return. Gimmicky as hell but works most of the time.
I’m still the standard thief mindset of get in, do a kitten ton of damage, and gtfo. So I never really could get into the pistol whip where it rooted you in place. With the staff, I can run in circles around my opponent while doing all the damage and if things get sketchy, dash away and pop ’em with the SB. Plus, I love the gank feel of using Thieves Guild. :P

You just wanted to verbally decapitate someone because I put the thought in your head. You’re welcome.
However, thats the problem. It SHOULD have been the core thief lol. THIS is what acro should have been…
I should have went with ASCII art.
Acro should be nothing but guarded initiation.
DD is a good save. Its palatable, but still lacking.
I ignore this because it’s a really good mask on a very poor
splicerbase class. Once the core is at the very least fine, I’ll be content. This doesn’t mean DD is bad, far from it.
Well, I used SA/CS/Trick, before DD was out and I had super fun downing things fast and immediately following the “OH kitten” feeling of instant counterattack/death. Keeps my heart healthy I guess…
-Retired Thief
I was very much #teamrifle, however this staff is pretty bad kitten . I’m having tons of fun with it, although its not very…thief-y
-Retired Thief
well thanks to DD, I can solo veteran mobs and most groups of mobs… Something I couldn’t do previously. SO I’d like to think thief is in a better place. (Before I get verbally decapitated….“better place”, not the place it SHOULD be.)
I’m gonna still verbally decapitate you because DD is not core thief, and core thief is actually worse off because of the improv buff/nerf.
so:
Swish
thock
thunk
~Rolling noises~
Rule 1 of GW2 is Thief is always OP, nerf immediately.
Fixed that for you.

perhaps every serious thief player has created a math problem to counter every class and thats why were so OP. The power of math (and thieves) cannot be denied…
-Retired Thief
I’ve tested this one out and it seems to work better the more enemies around due to the high heal on crit. (exact opposite of any thief build ever…). Been having alot of fun with it and it uses CS/Trick/DD Also like to point out that the riskiest portion of the battle for most thieves is the 100% to 50% enemy health range because of our low health therefore, i will always suggest CS over DA
-Retired Thief
If you’re a leather armor user, add me in-game I can give you a list of mats (that I don’t already have) to get/buy and i’ll make you the exotic armor set you want. Congrats on getting to 80!
-Retired Thief
I actually use CS, Trickery, Daredevil. Invigorating Precision is a lifesaver when using a melee weapon, especially if your crit chance is at least a base of 50%. If you’ve invested your gear in precision (like I have), you’re wasting your time doing anything else. The almost perma-fury from that trait line will keep you healing 200+ health a hit.
-Retired Thief
“Acrobatics is the performance of extraordinary feats of balance, agility, and motor coordination.”
Therefore, I firmly believe that this trait line should focus on endurance AND initiative regeneration. This is something that thieves have ALWAYS struggled with and encompasses what Karl’s vision of what the thief should be. So the only question left is…whats taking so long?
-Retired Thief
I’m actually thinking if using Giver’s armor. Testing will be required though
-Retired Thief
I’m a fairly active player looking for a guild to interact with especially when it comes to future content. I used to prefer smaller guilds, however, my experience is that they become inactive rather quickly, so a larger one is preferable. I play all aspects of this game (WvW, PvP, PvE, Fractals, etc.) and I try to be as helpful as possible. i generally don’t use a voice chat because my house is very noisy. I look forward to being apart of the team! (I can’t think of anything else anyone would need to know from me… )
-Retired Thief
This is close to what I was using
-Retired Thief
Can someone tell/show me where it was CONFIRMED that the elite specialization is called Dare Devil?
-Retired Thief
I do all zerker minus my armor which is soldiers. 17k health and I can still blast stuff with 9k BS. OH and I don’t die in two hits
-Retired Thief
How are necros complaining right now? Cele signet necro is one of the best builds in pvp right now and and is easily the best 1v1 build in this meta.
That’s like saying thief is fine because nothing can replace SB #5.
This made me laugh more than it should have. Well played, sir. Well kittening played.
-Retired Thief
@OP, I’d say that by recognizing that you’re not the best, makes you better then some thieves I’ve been around lol. Apply on the [teef] guild thread, also, I would be happy to help as well. Also, I would like to point out that as of right now, every thief is sucking in sPvP right now due to our kittened mechanics and the obvious power creep. It’s basically a game of +1 or die.
-Retired Thief
I feel like this entire thread is going to evolve into some life lesson bullkitten. Yolo, I’d prolly drop this because clearly they are not. Either way, #teampistols for lyfe.
-Retired Thief
And don’t feed me the bs that you are “only arguing because evidence shows it’ll be staff”. It is only where it is because because the part of the community that really wants it have hyped it into the sun.
You have no clue. You don’t know where it is and neither do any of us because none of us work for ANet and have no idea what they are planning and why they are planning it.
I understand and respect your passion but this is just a crybaby post because people didn’t agree with you. Ever since that picture was datamined it has been one QQ post after another about that Rifle not being implemented. You were hoping that everyone would agree with you and then all of the hype would change ANet’s mind but if that was all it took then FG would have been reverted and Ricochet would be back but they’re not. Sure, our opinions matter but in the end the final say so is theirs.
Quite frankly if this is how [Teef]‘s Liaison handles himself in public over a disagreement it’s no wonder the guild is floundering the way it is.
[Teef] is doing great by the way… I enjoy taking young thieves under my wing and talking them threw the wonders of this profession. A great idea.
Edit: typo.
-Retired Thief
Watch us not get a weapon altogether. XD
Thief elite spec is thief gets deleted.
LOL omg I would spam this thread with the title “Hahahahahahahahahhahahaha” just because all of this staff/rifle thing. #teampistols

If you guys in [Teef] want some help, I’d be happy to help. Anytime I’m on my thief, Im always attempting to mingle with the guildies. The only reason I joined is to spread the love I have for this class and maybe learn a few things too.
-Retired Thief
I was using the Reaper for the majority of the beta weekend and, while yes the attacks from Greatsword were kinda slow, I was still killing stuff pretty fast. I enjoyed the specialization a lot. “Rise!” will be perfect in a MM build >.>
-Retired Thief
You guys are here saying “Staff!” “Rifle!” and I just want my pistols to work…
-Retired Thief
I think the amount per skin should increase each time you buy one. For example: I spent 20 relics on my first skin, the next time I grab another it will cost me 30 relics, so on and so forth.
-Retired Thief
I still use Minion Master in sPvP, and I’ll be kitten ed if I can’t 1v2/3 and still win. Very easy to start with, however you aren’t going to be soloing points until you figure out the in’s and out’s. Also very fun to level 1 to 80
-Retired Thief
Well you are welcome to add me if you have any questions or need help Again, welcome back!
-Retired Thief
Thieves are at an “interesting” point right now. If you are returning to this game and want to re-learn how things go without worrying about re-learning your AND everyone else’s gameplay mechanics, I’d suggest a different class. Not discouraging you from playing this class, however, this is more a forewarning of what you are in for, especially if you plan on doing more than just PvE. Welcome back.
-Retired Thief
Feel like moving to maurader or even valk isn’t worth it.
We still are very squishy and can’t stay on a point. Valk maybe die in 5-6 hits. Maurader 3-4, berserker, 2-3.
The offense you lose from not using berserker just doesn’t seem worth the trade off. Which is why I’m still running berserker.
The offense to defense ratio from going into more defense ammy is way off for thief because of our innate squishyness…
umm I spec marauder because I dont wanna die from like 3 stack of bleeds which always seems to happen on berseker because you only have like 10-11 k health vs 14-15 with Marauder, plus I literally only see like a 1k to 500 damage difference. lol WELL worth that trade off.
-Retired Thief
Sooooooooooooooooo dragged out. This is more waiting than the time I waited for Star Ocean 3 to stop being delayed. We might actually have The Last Guardian release before we have Thief spec news.
This made me giggle because I remember this long kitten wait.
-Retired Thief
Yup, Its issues like the ones you are having currently, is what these forums should be filled with. I’d say your first mistake with the thief is using the berserker ammy ( i know i’m prolly about to get hate mail for this). I found that Marauders or Carrion (if condi) ammys work the best. Also, roll for int and withdraw are lifesavers for situations like that one.
-Retired Thief
I just want A-Net to post this specialization already. If I don’t like it, I’ll just re-roll to a different profession. This whole speculation of which weapon is really becoming quite a chore to sift though to find useful (and relevant) information….
Btw, Thanks [Teef] for posting something useful in the thief forums!
-Retired Thief
When you believe the content is challenging you, you can either tone down the content or get better yourself. An experienced player would kill for more challenging dungeons, and yet here you are complaining the class is too squishy in pve. Wearing dps oriented gear makes you less resistant. There’s a risk to take in playing the highest dps spec in the game. Learn how to position yourself, how to max melee, how to blind trash mobs, what to dodge on bosses, how to use your utility to survive ( signet of agility, withdraw are great life savers). Thieves are squishy, but it makes them fun.
Boy, you’re just the debbie downer, aren’t ya? I’m pretty sure this didn’t warrant him/her being flamed by you. How about offering help instead of being a kitten…

UPDATE: So yesterday I tried p/p with Magi gear and I found my heals from SoM healing about 200 per tick. Which is awesome sustain to outheal most conditions, especially if you’re like me and spam the hell out of unload.
P.S: I’m trying “out-of-the-box” gear stats to see if I can find some unknown incredible combo. This Magi one is probably the coolest one so far.
Once I started using Shamans with a Condi build to get that healing for the SOM and other sources (venoms assassins rewards) I was toying with the idea of a power set in Magi. It sounds interesting
Its actually an unconventional power build in the sense that it relies on your crits for that burst of damage. My crit chance is 60 before fury (which is up 95% of the time), I actually found that I dont need Invigorating Precision and slotted No Quarter for a noticeable damage increase. It’s really fun, but you wont be topping any charts with it.
