I dislike the new BLs because they are empty always. Auto upgrading is whats killing them. Everyone knows EB so instead of roaming or havocing on an empty map where even capping a camp is difficult due to it being fully upgraded(automatically), they go to EB. If you want to give the BLs a better shot i’d say remove auto upgrading.

Hello

Im a Gw2 veteran. I’be been on SBI for 2 years an havn’t found a guild that fits for me since my last guild fell apart. I am (in order of preferred game mode) a WvW, PvP, PvE player. I dont like dungeons (unless its a raid dungeon). I’ve only been doing PvE for the new content and to get my elite specs unlocked for WvW.

I’m looking for a guild to play with. I’ve done it all from high quality Zerg busting, to deep Havoc, to Commanding (tho i don’t command anymore). I’ve dont plenty of PvP and know what to do there as well. PvE is situation (like missions and new raid content). I would prefer a guild where most people rep as its annoying when no one does but it wouldn’t be a deal breaker. If you are recruiting please hit me up!

As much as i dislike the idea of everyone running the meta builds…using it as a place to start might not be a bad idea. Once you understand your role as an engineer and how to generally play, you can tweak the meta build to suit your personal play style. I think jumping into one of the most complex classes in the game with a build that is personalized for someone else that they have taken the time to master might be difficult. If you really dont want to metabattle, look at youtube videos and just filter it to be within the recent month and you’ll see plenty of builds, and game play. You should be able to find one that looks good to you and wont be meta. gl to you.

There are other skills that could mesh well with this build other than RFI. I’d also consider Infiltrator’s Signet, Signet of Agility, or maybe SR. There are a few reasons i prefer RFI. 1) It is a stun break. 2) If you evade an attack with RFI, (due to DD trait line) it will also heal a small amount. 3) It re-positions you … and since you are getting stunned you probably need a re-positioning anyways. 4) my favorite aspect is the amount of initiative it gives all at once. It allows you to go from potentially 0 initiative (which is not a place you want to find yourself) to having enough to set up a burst combo. Or enough to pop off 2 infiltrators arrows and get out of a bad situation. Yes its a 60 sec cd but based on the reasons above i still think its worth it. Also you have a total of 3 stun breaks with one on a 12 sec cd. honestly it comes down to personal preference.

Maybe your right. Sorry about that. It can last for short amounts of time in team fights as long as you avoid aoe and get out when you know you need to. Cant argue with the mobile part tho

Most know that S/D is not in the best place right now for most game modes. Despite this, the build linked below has brought me a good amount of success in PvP.

NOTE: This build requires quick reaction time & decision making.

Strengths: +1 Fights. Decap points. Good at 1v1 vs some glassy builds (especially other thieves). Crazy amounts of mobility. Quick Stomp. Hard to pin down.

Weaknesses: Heavy Condition Pressure. Large amounts of AOE pressure.

Play Style:
The build is built around the use of evades, stun breaks, and lots of endurance. The number 2 skill on Sword, condition removal and soft cc removal on evade are your best friends vs moderate condition pressure(condi spikes hurt no matter what avoid full condi builds). Sword num 3 should be used when you see an attack you need to evade or need to re position (don’t spam)…. can also use while evading ranged attacks since you will not proc larcenous strike when not hitting anyone. S/D numb 4 use when you know your return will take you far from someone you are trying to chase down…also remember it is a projectile finisher and can be used in fields like water for procs. Num 5 skill only use when trying to lose aggro but stay close in combat (only source of stealth). The physical elite skill is strong and should be used as a quick stomp…can even use just before enemy reaches down state to put them in down state and to ensure they don’t have time to use any down skills. The heal skill should be used often due to the low cool down & endurance regen but preferably after a shadow or infiltrators return. Always use Bandit’s defense as your primary stun break due to low cool down & endurance regen. Use Shadow Step before RFI as a stun break unless you are also low on initiative.

A hint vs Dragon Hunters….

A dragon hunter is on point dropping traps…you can double dodge through the point triggering all traps and wait for them to end. Once the DH is out of traps they can be quite vulnerable to SD thief. If you get caught in traps Shadow step out or you’ll die quickly.

Same goes for necro circles. Dodge through but know that necro is a hard match up and you are better of helping team elsewhere.

Hope this is helpful to fellow SD thieves. As soon as i figure out computer stuff i will post a video to go along with this post. Please know this build may not be meta and maybe not have a place in top Tier PvP but it is super fun and with practice can be beastly. Good luck see you in the mists!

Is this supposed to be serious? A couple warriors with their CDs down. A bunch of stand still thieves who barely break cc? All of which you walk away with about 2.5k health on a much heartier setup? No bueno.

If you look at half the treads in Thief sub forums you’ll see….Thief can’t 1v1, thief can only +1, thief can only decap points.

I just saw a new build 1v1 a necro, 1v1 another thief, and hold up strong in team fights. Poison damage with SB num 4 i saw ticking for 1k….for poison damage thats pretty good. Is it a meta build? probably not. Props for using a non DD build that utilizes some new sigils and runes. Looks fun

I’d consider in trickery line swapping out trick cooldown/condi removal trait for torment on interrupt…due to SD set your torment damage could be pretty high. Best of luck!

I’ve returned to SD recently and seeing it used in PvP (since i haven’t seen any at all) is nice. If you are looking for an alternative build….You should consider switching out bountiful theft for the trait in trickery that lowers cooldown of tricks and removes conditions. Swap out infiltrator’s signet for roll for initiative and switch Executioner for Improvization. With all the extra initiative from RFI the burst you lose from dropping Executioner you easily make up with the extra skills available plus everyone and their quaggan cousin runs condi so the extra condi removal is nice. Also being able to use steal skills twice can really save your noodle sometimes. The only real down side to these changes is losing the guaranteed interrupt due to losing BT for preventing stomps…but hey. Just something to consider. Anyways nice work…also is that the game lagging or the recording? i’d believe either lol

Would also be nice to removed the direct damage portion of traps and add that damage to the condition portion. No one uses ranger traps for direct damage anyways. Plus the direct damage doesn’t synergize with trapper runes at all.

MEHHHH!!! i no like reveal. I’d be ok with 100% condition application and no direct damage on ranger traps to prevent reveal. The direct damage on them is pitiful anyways so whats the point of having it?

Stun break trap on ranger would be nice. Spring trap break stun and knock back enemies yay! Im not saying to reveal thieves for using traps im saying trapper runes should effect all classes the same way. Unless i misunderstood what Puck was saying before or something and ive just been rambling on about something that isn’t true making myself look foolish

Will test tonight but if this is true Ireno please consider making traps not reveal on activation. It can be very confusing when you expect to get stealth and are instantly revealed when someone leaps in at you as you drop the trap. Feels like a bug and is what made me stop using the trapper builds back before trait changes. It makes you vulnerable to mele and ranged classes and when stealth is your defense it hurts to be revealed….i know…because im also a thief It really would make all the difference. And i know its not your call exactly but same goes for guardians.

Why would they make ranger traps reveal and thief traps not? I play both classes so im not advocating that thief traps are unfair but if they dont reveal one class why would the reveal another? Doesnt make a whole lot of sense.

When i used to run this build i could handle most 1v1s due to the stealth, super speed, and cripples even if they were mele. obv the build is not the best but it is super fun. I just tried to find the video that turned me on to the build back when it was first used but i couldn’t find it just to link to show play style.

So i used to run trapper long bow short bow ranger before they made changes to traits. It worked pretty well in most situations and now that the traps no longer reveal you i was thinking about picking it back up. The build i used to run is this

I’ll jump on this too. Bow 3 is a great projectile skill. Hits multiple enemies in a line with blind. Both the AA and Bow 5 cripple. Use that and positioning and you should be able to use traps effectively. Not to be rude but this is a L2P situation.

Dragon Hunter is strong in PvP. Tried a little in WvW maybe a hybrid burn trapper guard could be good? Still one of our core issues is our lack of movement speed options outside of utility slots or traveler runes. I said it in another post but since Karl started this one it is most likely to be read here (despite being on page 7 now i can see that it might not) lol.

An option i consider to be a good one to solve movement speed issues is to modify the trait Unscathed Contender in the Virtues line. If UC also made it so when you have applied aegis you gain 5 sec of swiftness at 5 sec intervals it would give perma swiftness while ooc and short bursts while in combat. Plenty of classes have perma swiftness gained from traits (like engi kit swap) so i don’t think that would be an issue. I’d even be ok with the trait being changed to only give 10% damage increase to make room for the swiftness. I will lobby for this forever! haha

Hello Community.

I am looking for some advice on what to do about the upcoming HoT and what people think about transferring between servers because I am on the fence. So in more depth my questions are….

- Would there be any benefit to transferring servers before HoT release? Do you expect the expansion shake up WvW servers possibly hurting the community you are moving to or from?

- I have found a guild on a different server to fit my game preferences. My current server does not have a guild like the one i want to transfer to be with (obviously this is WvW related). How does one decide between server friends (over 2 years on a server) and potential new group of active gw2 friends / guild opportunities?

- Use up all my in game gold (yes all) to transfer or pay real money?

Any advice in this matter would be appreciated!

Right now in PvP…DH can bunker a point and doesnt necessarily need the speed boost. In WvW larger groups you should be running staff anyways and speed shouldnt be an issue. For roaming the speed would be nice otherwise you need traveler or speed runes to be worth anything. for PvE i agree other than map completion you shouldnt need it? I Think the DH roamer could be strong with the speed buff. in PvP it could make the DH a strong decap/ mobile killshot. in larger PvP maps it takes so long to get to the point you only real option is to play bunker. the speed boost overall would be a quality of life thing possibly opening up new play styles for the DH. please correct me if im wrong.

25% movement speed while wielding a longbow. Just attach it to Pure of Sight minor trait. That way DH isn’t like… ok i need DH bc i need the movement speed…you also need to use the longbow. is fair.

if you want to spec into dragon hunter because of some of the other benefits you shouldnt be forced to use the longbow if you dont want to. We should be able to access a movement speed buff without being tied down to a weapon type.

Everything Anet tries to do is a give and take. If they just put 25% speed in DH with no conditions Dragon Hunter will be a 100% necessity then you are not running w/e you want, you are running DH because you need the speed forsaking other trait lines. Its not likely for them to just give it to us. Warriors have a trait that give them movement speed when running mele weapons…what if i wanted to run LB Rifle on war but want the speed? oh you can’t. Oh you play ele but don’t want to run arcana or water lines?…then you will not survive. I am being realistic here and trying to offer a solution that does not put us in the ele trait line situation and also put us on par with a warrior trait that works already. Go ahead run what you want but there will always be a give and take. It’s childish to just say you want it but are unwilling to give anything up. Offer a better idea if you dont like mine but just saying you want it will have a dev look at the thread see nothing other than people complaining and not look into it again.

Mallyx/Shiro condition spec from a PvP perspective. I felt as though i had a lot less control due to the changes to Unyielding Anguish, though i agreed that removing the displacement on it was the right move. I think making it pull foes to the center point upon the first pulse would increase the control of Mallyx by alot so maybe remove the chill and add the pull? With that being said the damage output is considerable and those that hang out inside UA get shredded pretty quick but once people learn what UA does it will be easily avoided. Was alot easier to deal with conditions when your legend skills are not self applying all over the place…was too much before. Still think that EtD should copy conditions instead of applying torment bc i could not tell the difference between using it and not using it. I only used EtD when i was low on energy and needed resistance vs other condi specs. Turning it on and then off again real quick worked best for me. I will say that players with any reliable condi removal were difficult because torment can only go so far being one of the only conditions applied. Tho burn is applied via mace pretty reliably as well. The change in the down skill was a big plus! Condi spec is still in a strong spot overall and the changes made to Mallyx for BWE3 were overall good. Well done Roy good luck sifting though the feedback!

Karl has already said that Ricochet is not coming back…so ya. I main thief so i could see the pistol cripple trait being replaced with a pierce trait but i dont think they like the bounce. I played P/P last night and i was able to 1v1 other D/P thieves with the build i had set up. But yes it is still hard to play.

This way you can use it strategically with players that are trying to cleanse…rather than every skill giving yourself condis. So plan to use maybe Pain Absorption to cleanse team then use EtD, then have your team mate cleanse you or w/e. This way you are not being counter productive to someone cleansing. People can learn what EtD looks like and wait to cleanse. Otherwise Pain Absorbtion is almost 100% useless and extremely situational and EtD will not be worth the energy cost.

Not a member yet but i am strongly considering transferring to NSP to be with these guys. On voice coms during non raid times they are fun to talk to and good people. Seeing their raid videos they look composed and organized. From my perspective they seem like a guild that blends the best of both Hardcore play and a Casual atmosphere. Great Guild!

I’ve been thinking about something like this too. Since Mallyx still has a lot of resistance application, a limited form of condi absorption could work. But the legend shouldn’t be completely built around it. Your suggestion would basically be a more offensive variation of mine, which is fine too. It might even be better. With your version, reaching the condi threshold shouldn’t pose too much of a challenge.

My thoughts exactly. I feel like this would be an acceptable middle ground to what was there before and what they are proposing. Of course they have announced it now so it will be implemented for this next BWE. Hope they do something along the lines of what i mentioned bc it was our only way to stack multiple conditions in a short time. the 25% chance on pulsating pestilence is nice but it will still be random and you could end up transfering 1 condition on a skill that is a GM trait….wouldn’t really be worth it. unless the cooldown is changed to 10 sec and increase it to 33% chance but that could be OP. Either way i expect we will find many unhappy condition players that will find the new mallyx lacking in damage output vs anyone with any amount of condition cleanse. Only time will tell i guess.

War Vessel [iRe] is a small tight knit PvP / WvW guild that is pretty Semi-Casual about PvP. We dont usually use mics so it would not be a problem if you didn’t have one. We don’t have a schedule or rep rule. We always give our all during matches tho. We know the maps and our professions. When not in matches we chat about w/e. Having a good sense of humor is a must. We are a small guild with hopes of getting enough to consistently have 5 ppl on that are pvping. We sometimes do ranked when we have 4 or more of us in a grp but i don’t see us trying for tourneys anytime soon. For all of us real life is most important so we know what its like to only have an hour here or there. If you just want a few strong players with casual mindsets to play with give us a try! BTW we are mostly EST.

@OP. I like the changes that you mentioned. We need more ideas like this!

I can see the devs argument behind the changes to giving yourself conditions…but necro Corruption utility skills do exactly that, and it benefits the heal skill consume condition…so i can also see the argument that its kinda just a nerf to the legend. Unyielding Anguish displacement was pretty OP and i agree that it needed to be changed… but it was the only cc that mallyx had and should at least be treated as a knockback or Fear or something useful….i mean more torment? All the enemy has to do is wait for you to use maybe 5 or 6 skills…then cleanse once. Honestly my only real beef with the Mallyx changes was the change to EtD.

Self: 1 random condition every second for 3 sec.
Outgoing: 3 conditions (less if you have fewer) copied for 3 sec every second.

This way you can use it strategically with players that are trying to cleanse…rather than every skill giving yourself condis. So plan to use maybe Pain Absorption with EtD, then have your team mate cleanse you or w/e.

Wanted to Add that being on SBI is not mandatory tho the Team Speak we use is the Public SBI TS…so in order to join us when in TS being on SBI is kinda important. Might be able to work something out with TS admins.

Timezone EST-PST tho we wont turn someone from a different timezone away
Preferred Game Mode PvP&WvW. Occasionally PvE : Missions soon to come
Intensity Semi-Casual. Casual because we don’t have scheduled raids or rep rules
Semi because we aim to play well and know our stuff
Size Very small. We do not intend on becoming large. We want to make friends and
be tight knit…not grow into a numbers guild

Willing to teach players new to PvP or WvW the ropes as it can seem difficult or w/e to enter these game modes. We do request that players be 18+ due to some adult humor….must be able to take a joke. I don’t think it needs much of a change at all. I just think the evade timer needs to be changed from 1/4 second to 1/2 second….that’s it. I also think its hit mechanics needs to be fixed. Ive done it on AFK targets…meaning they arent even moving. And it still applies only 2 stacks of bleed, or even 1 sometimes……all 3 need to land more often than not unless the target it literally in the middle of dodging

Yes i agree that if the attack is not dodged…all 3 bleeds should apply. I do see a small problem with the attack cast time and dodge time being the same. It would promote an evade spam on d/d that would be no better than the perma stealth of d/p.

That’s why i say if they fix the bleed problem…increase the dodge time to 1/2 sec they will need to do something to balance it. people will complain about the spam anyways so why not beat em to it and find a way to slightly balance it….like so

3 stacks of bleed on successful hit(not 1 or 2).
1/2 sec cast time…1/2 sec evade. increase initiative cost to 5.
If attack successfully hits target return 1 initiative.

This way if used properly you get your bleeds and 1/2 sec evade. But if you spam you are likely to miss at some point and will cost you 1 initiative every time you miss.

I mean. Flanking strike and Death blossom have the same initiative cost. Take the same amount of time to cast….yet flanking strike is 1/2 sec evade and death blossom is 1/4 sec evade. The 1/4 sec extra really does make a difference and i agree that the skill is underpowered. And possibly why lots of people dont run DD…other than backstab.

the only reason for this i can see is that after flanking strike you must use larcenous strike therefor spacing out the evade spam. But i mean once you are out of initiative thats it.

How could Death blossom be fixed so it isnt 100% spam/evade time?
1. increase the cast time of death blossom to 3/4 sec and increase evade to 1/2 sec?
2. Increase initiative cost to 5 but increase evade time to 1/2 sec? In this scenario it would deplete initiative quite quickly if you were to spam but would allow a chain of evades in necessary.

We are a Casual and very small tight knit guild. We are looking for players looking to play casually (without a schedule) but looking for high skill play. We always strive to be our best but know that real life is important and wont hold you to a set schedule.

In WvW: we either Havoc or play gank within the zerg
In PvP: we play unranked matches..and play to win!

We are not 100% rep but would like members to be on SBI since our Team Speak is in the community SBI channel. We are accepting players of all skill levels but members are expected to want to improve. Most importantly we are looking for players that want to make friends. We are not looking to get numbers as much as we want more friends to play with…trust me there is a difference.

I would go carrion. Still good base damage. around 20K hp. around 1400-1500 condition damage and 2K power. Right in between Dire and Sinister.

As another poster pointed out before, the new heal seems to be intended for use while stealthed, giving you an option other than withdraw that synergizes with the spec.

Either take withdraw for an extra evade, or take the new one for an end refill+heal in stealth, allowing you to use a short stealth (like blinding powder, a combo on a non-staff set, or stealth from trap runes) to heal/condi clear without having to take SA and wait, basically letting you recharge your main defense (endurance) and heal all at one time and be set up to jump back in the fight, sort of how HiS on stealth builds lets you heal and activate your main defense (stealth) and be prepared to jump back in.

The extra HP on full end is likely there to make it more useful when using it in a longer stealth.

Thanks for pointing that out. New spec just has me overthinking i guess. usually not a fan of pulse heals but i guess if you run some stealth still and not full evade…some kind of hybrid this does make sense. Despite how many threads are out trash talking the new spec saying we are getting nothing new / acro 2.0 are very wrong. I expect to see some pretty crazy play styles come from this. Already theory crafting and there seem to be lots of options atm. Leaning toward DD/Acro/Trick Carrion hybrid atm.
