Press DS, nothing happens.
Press DS again, nothing happens.
Push random weapon skills, 1 out of 3 works.
Push DS again cause you’re trying to survive a bomb, nothing happens
Push heal, DS pops and instantly flip back followed by 3s interrupt cd on heal.

Yeah… I wish I had l2p issues. At least that I could try to improve.

Sounds like you have either a bad connection, kittenty keyboard, kittenty computer or a combination of all of them I have never had that happen ever.

Obviously you don’t WvW on reset night. :-P

Just tested it, Blink goes on full cd when trying to use it without a valid path while thief’s Shadowstep doesn’t. Also, Infiltrator’s Arrow doesn’t use up initiative.

Seems like a bug to me (how surprising).

Actually, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn’t, (speaking of Shadowstep & IA). It seems a little random, but I’m sure there is a reason somewhere.

Fixed now pretty sure.

Just tried it again, and I can still get Shadowstep to fire, use initiative, and yet not port me anywhere. Not fixed 100% yet.

And, IMO, Steal is noticeably worse than pre-patch. (T_T)

It doesn’t. Out of combat you get +33% movement speed, (same as swiftness). In combat you receive +45% [of in-combat] movement speed, (if I’m not mistaken).

Masterful Reflection - broken?

I noticed that while Masterful Reflection will indeed reflect projectiles, it would seem as though I can still take certain damage while it is up, (rather than becoming immune like normal when un-traited). Is this working as intended, or a known bug?

On the one hand, I certainly love reflecting a Ranger’s LB2 back in his face, but on the other hand, I most certainly do NOT like dying to damage when I should be immune to it while under the effects of Distortion. (T_T)

I use Traveler’s Runes myself, but that is because I can’t stand NOT using them anymore, as it makes me feel crippled when just moving about.

(FWIW, in WvW I typically run 06620 P/D full Zerker.)

This comes to me as quite a surprise, as a person who mains a mesmer and has never lost to a thief I don’t understand why mesmers would hate on this kind of an easy kill

For me I find it insanely easy to predict thief movement which is probably why I pretty much always block/dodge backstabs and steals.

Can we see some of your fights from “king of the hill” map (at eu prime time) as ’shatter (standard mesmer build for tpvp) against standard sw\d or even d\p thief (standard thief builds for tpvp)?

On a seperate note – but still related to the Shortbow – I hate how slow the projectile speed is for #2, as if I am running and shoot it forward at max range, it will land behind me (if I have swiftness). Why is it that it shoots so slowly (and with such little range too I might add)?? Heck an Engineer can throw a handful of grenades (backhanded!!) at almost twice the speed and distance as my bow can shoot a single cluster bomb?? Sad…

It would also be nice if the range was increased when shooting downward, as on some walls I can’t reach the ground…and that just feels weird.

Thieves are not at all what I expected.

Since it’s not a single player game, I want to have to react to what my opponent is doing. I want to win because I reacted to that dynamic situation well rather than because I pulled off a fairly memorized chain of inputs.

Personally, (when I am on my Mesmer for example), I find fights against Thieves to be some of the most fun & reactive battles I have. My least favorite tend to be against Rangers…but hey, that’s just me.

Thieves are not at all what I expected.

I tried S/D and it worked better outside of group fights at first, but it felt like I was playing against myself. I won or lost based solely on my own performance; the enemy player may as well have been a sandbag.

Personally, I see little problem with the fact of winning based on my GOOD performance, and losing based on my POOR performance. Why do you find that to be troubling?

Also, how would a person lose against a sandbag?

I think you meant P/D.

If you look closely, I have daze on Steal which is really important. Although you can daze using Headshot, the instant cast of Steal is unmatched.

Headshot is also instant cast, (though there is a small amount of travel time for the projectile…)

It’s still there. If you have Debilitating Dissipation, your illusions will explode in a cloud of smoke. If you don’t, they have the standard mirror shatter appearance.

Ironically, I actually dumped DD BECAUSE of the smoke. I prefer the mirror shatter effect. :P

Hmm, maybe its because I’m shattering on the practice dummies in P v P that I don’t see smoke?

The smoke isn’t from the shattering, but rather when a clone is overwritten or upon clone death.

Personally, I REALLY would’ve preferred mainhand pistol, because C’MON!!

The purpose of the specs is to completely change up the professions and how they play, though. Pistol on main-hand wouldn’t really add anything new – it would feel like the same old mesmer. The shield is part of a fully reimagined mesmer that looks to me like it’s been designed to handle multiple targets, (aoe field illusion & knockdown shatter).

The Focus isn’t all that dissimilar from what we know of the Shield thus far…

I bought the ugly Super Shield today. The glow made me do it. Gotta have things that glow and sparkle, in cyberspace I’m all fabulous, IRL I’m a tired father of two.

I also use several of the Super-skins (usually GS & sword)…and I am a tired father of 5! :P

Meta is still IP Shatter (Double ranged, but GS sw/torch is good to)…

Pretty much any of the offhand weapons are viable, it would seem. Some say the focus is best, (but I myself find that I do better with Pistol/Sword/Torch personally)…though destroying the Curtain (Focus 4) can be almost OP at times. :P

Just some new documentation on the true problem with iMage

  • 1. iMage cast within range can potentially hit a target walking away slowly. No speed buffs. (opening seconds)
  • 2. iMage cannot hit a target at max range walking away slowly (10s)
  • 3. iMage well within range is very likely to miss moving targets within range. This includes mid range attacks, and even point blank range. (1:04, 1:38)
  • 4. iMage can be “dodged” simply by jumping while moving. (1:00)

Test subject (thanks Tealot) was able to do all this without even realizing what the test was. In other words he wasn’t even trying to avoid the incoming attacks. He was jumping at random.

iMage confusion stacks and duration do need improvement. But no amount of stacks or duration is going to matter if the application is ineffective. iMage needs his buff, but he also needs a redesign to do with it.

Possible solution: iMage uses his own version of Confusing Images. Traited iMage removed condition on pulse within beam. ICD to match current attack/bounce time?

That right there would be a good fix, IMO.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems like several people have the wrong idea about the change in the rate of fire for the iMage.

  • Phantasmal Mage: The illusionary mage summoned by this skill now applies 4 stacks of confusion instead of 3 with their attack. The duration of the confusion has been increased from 3 seconds to 4 seconds. The illusionary mage’s rate of fire has been reduced by 1 second.

For example, if the RoF was 1 attack every 5 seconds, wouldn’t reducing the RoF by 1 second thus mean 1 attack every 4 seconds? That’s how I’m reading it anyway. (Not that this matters much, as the projectile never seems to hit anyway.)

You started out going to home when you don’t need to. When there are 2 of you at home uncontested you should have moved to mid right away. In general you should move the whole match to kill ppl leave the capping to your teammates who can bunker the pt.
That’s all I can say, the combat is hard to judge you did nothing wrong but then again your opponents were pretty bad.

Hey warshade. I saw some of the video earlier, but didn’t have time to comment. (even now I’m on my cell)

A couple things I noticed.. Check out terrorsquads phase retreat guide and youtube some blink spot guides to learn some Blink locations. Your blinks are often being wasted for an extra bit of mobility rather than being used to reposition into favorable spots or saving you from danger.

You seem to over rely on GS a bit too much, I saw a few instances where you were using GS in melee range when fighting on point, even though you coulda switched to sword. As a rule, greatsword is stronger the further you are from opponents, and the auto attack damage scales with the distance. Use iWave (GS5) to push people off point and away from you.

And shatters.. Specifically diversion[F3] if not being used to set up a chain daze -multiple illusions running from different distances to daze the opponent- then it should be either to save yerself defensively or interrupting stomps/rezzes.

Thanks Chaos, and for the record, these are some of the very things that I have been working on (since the video in question), and I have actually been really liking the chain daze ability. Also, I have read through the guides and watch most of the videos too. I just thought that it could perhaps be beneficial to throw the video up anyway to see if I could glean anything more. I appreciate the input for sure.

A couple of questions:

  1. What are your thoughts on Confusing Cry (Illusions II)? I typically just use Precise Wrack, but have used Confusing Cry a couple times (just not enough to get a good feel for it). It doesn’t seem like a popular choice, so perhaps it is because of a good reason.
  2. Do you find Portal still a good choice when solo Q, or do you see most of it’s use when you are with a team/party?
  3. Thoughts on Illusionary Elasticity vs Illusionary Invigoration?

Some things to add:

  • It is fairly rare when I use GS in melee, unless I have a reason (like waiting a couple seconds for either IW or weapon swap to come off CD).
  • I usually use sword or pistol in my off-hand, though I would like to get more use out of the Focus, but I just don’t feel very fluid with it in sPvP.

Thanks Ross, (and I would agree with pretty much everything you said). Unfortunately, I was having issues with recording video, hence the reason I only used the one that I got to record properly. (I only have the free version of fraps, and it will only records 30 sec at a time. And Shadowplay was causing so many issues at first (black screen, lagging keyboard, no sound…). Preferably I would’ve liked to have the in-game sound, but Shadowplay required it to be disabled for me to actually be able to use the kitten software, haha…

I have been trying to get a buddy of mine (who I played WoW with for about 7 years…) to join up on GW2, and he asked me to record an entire match to get a feel for the PvP. (Of course, I told him that this was superfluous as there are plenty of videos out there already…but he said he wanted to see ME play, lol.)

all in good fun i’m sure but don’t bother getting too serious about it. If this actually is a proper full expansion that actually brings things like new weapons or skills then they are probably well past the point of finalized and firmly locked in the pipe line.

Obviously this expac is just speculation. I’m just trying to learn what people like to see added to this class (given or not). Purely for the purpose of entertaining, not with the intention to sharpen my pitchfork, lighten my torch, and to run to the devs office

For mesmer I’m hoping so much for an main hand pistol! Wouldn’t it be awesome as Mesmer to dualwield 2 awesome pistols? Abilities could be something like:

Hehehe, well i think class mechanics should stay unique, but it could be a Dual-wiel animation, just foor the looks of it (and needless to say because of awesomeness)
