Operation Arm Players With Fire Elementals

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wift.9862

So after doing tons of runs of killing Tequatl with Tequatl-killing guilds, I noticed that there an amazing increase in dps that a server has with everyone having Fire Elemental Powders equipped. Tequatl easily goes down with 5+ minutes left on the timer mostly because of this consumable.

For those who don’t know, Fire Elemental Powders summon Fire Elementals that spam fire fields around an area, making it easy to do fire combo’s that increase might. If a whole zerg equips these Fire Elemental Powders, the zerg can easily gain mega-stacks of might by spamming attacks in these fire fields.

Therefore, I think it is in our best interest to try and have everyone equip these Fire Elemental Powders. Fire Elemental Powders can drastically decrease the time spent killing world bosses and increase our rate of gold per hour. These Fire Elemental Powders are relatively cheap, costing only 1 silver and 4 copper per 1 Fire Elemental Powder.

If you want to help arm your server with these consumables, please copy and paste this to your map chat periodically:
PSA: Please get [&AgH+IQAA] to help increase dps and kill bosses faster. You can get it after doing the Tar Elemental event north of [&BBYCAAA=]

I’ve started some assaults in the Yaks Bend main server these past 2 weeks on the weekends, but have proven unsuccessful so far, since most of Yaks Bend aren’t experienced with jumping waves or having as much fire elementals like TTS has.

I plan on trying again tomorrow and on Sunday, at around 6-8pm EST, depending on what time Tequatl’s timer resets. Please contact me if you plan on participating, as I could always use more help in setting up for the battle.

Btw, I was using TTS tactics for the last few of my assaults. I think our next attempts will have to be melee though, to make up for our lack of dps with not having as much fire elementals.

I’m not expert in warrior builds, so I can’t really say. Though I wouldn’t worry about builds too much against the fight against Tequatl, since we’re not really aiming to set a record for speed runs or anything like that.

Hey guys, I know there are Tequatl Specialized guilds that are out there to kill Tequatl, but I don’t think our server should be restricted to joining those guilds if they want to kill Tequatl. I think it would be cool if our server could just unify and fight to kill Tequatl weekly, to get it’s awesome rewards.

So I’ll be rallying and starting assaults on Tequatl, every saturday (hopefully) at 4pm+ server time/ an hour before daily reset. So if you want to come kill Tequatl, just join me at Sparkfly Fen main during that time. I’ll be advertising a voip for us to join and relaying instructions on how to beat Tequatl. Anyone is welcome to join, and I’d appreciate it if any big guilds could come help.

For those planning to join the assault, please get these items to better prepare:

Building a new CPU for GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The Radeon HD 7870 graphics card is definitely more than enough to handle GW2. If there’s anything that you should consider upgrading, it should definitely be that CPU, since Guild Wars 2 is ridiculously much more CPU-intensive.

I’d suggest looking around at the tech support forums and seeing how well they run the game with their setups, because most people that I’ve heard that could run GW2 at 1080p max settings and have 30+ fps during zergs, had very good CPU’s running at 4.0+GHz. So be sure to lurk around those forums for a bit.

Population counters and alert system for WvW

in Suggestions

Posted by: Wift.9862

Wift.9862

I’ve been playing some Planetside 2 alongside Guild Wars 2, and I realized that Guild Wars 2 WvW can be improved very much, if they copied a bit of stuff from Planetside 2 like population counters and an alert system.

A population counter that shows each servers populations on each WvW map in contrasts to others, can help WvW commanders sufficiently call for reinforcements from other maps. This would create much more evenly matched battles across WvW, instead of having small zergs being easily crushed by mega-zergs because they had no idea what they were up against.

An alert system such as the one from Planetside 2 would also be a great addition to WvW, as it greatly helps players have some short-term satisfaction in WvW rather than having to wait till the end of the week’s WvW match-ups to feel the long-term satisfaction.

The way that an alert system works in Planetside 2 is that players are alerted to a map, and during the course of 2 hours, they must take as much territory as they can, since the team that has the most territory at the end, gains a massive boost in xp. Also, during those two hours, all players that participate in the alert receive a small boost in xp as well.

The way i suggest an alert system works for Guild Wars 2, is that players should be alerted every few hours to take as much territory in WvW across all maps for two hours rather than just a random single map like in Planetside 2, so players can fill up all the WvW maps and not worry much about queue times. During those two hours, players should receive a slight boost in wxp for taking objectives, and whichever server has the most territory at the end of those two hours, gets a massive boost in wxp.

My belief is that if Arenanet would add these changes to WvW, WvW would become much more fun, populated, and addicting, as winning in an alert system provides the same satisfaction as one who would win from a short team-pvp game.

I agree. This game need farming back, or at least 90% of the player base will probably quit this game. Farming, imo, is one of the funnest things to do in MMO’s, and without it, you’re basically taking out the soul of the game.

I remember the best times I had with this game, farming at the Lyssa Union wp, spamming #1 guardian staff skills like crazy, watching some television on my other screen and eating pizza on the side, while getting some awesome loot in the process.

This type of fun is the type that people remember during the course of their whole lives, so please please add more farming spots. I cannot recommend this game to my friends and everyone I know otherwise.

Actually, the “Get Warmaster Chan to Shank Anchorage before the troops” morale breaks" is easier with like 1-4 people considering if you get any more than that, much more Risen nobles spawn to kill the pact, which makes the event even more harder.

It’s actually possible to solo this event by yourself, provided you have enough dps to kill the Risen nobles fast enough so they won’t do too much damage to the pact, and enough survivability to survive the Risen nobles attacks. My guardian with my greatsword has been able to do this event solo quite a couple times.

Temple of Balthazar Struggle

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Wift.9862

Wift.9862

I’ve done this event multiple times with my guild, and we do succeed like 90% of the time. The best way to have the Pact morale stay high is to have at least 10+ people in the event doing as much dps as possible on the mobs before they even get to hit the pact npc’s. Don’t bother equipping any support skills or weapons, since any time spent not killing mobs, is an opportunity for the mobs to hit the pact.

It’s always good to have everyone a bit spread out, making sure you’re protecting every single flank around the pact, since the mobs spawn all over the place. It’s easy to have the morale drop if most of you’re group is busy protecting one side, and there’s no one protecting the pact from the group of enemies in the other side.

The highest priority when protecting the pact should be taking out the Risen Nobles as fast as possible though, since they’re really the only mobs that deal an insane amount of damage both to the npc’s and player alike. I suggest turning on the “show all enemy names” in the options menu when trying to protect the pact from those mobs.

If you feel to lazy explaining all this to the people in the area doing the event, just say in map chat “Need more people for Balthlazaar event” and “please kill enemies as fast as possible to protect the pact.” That way, you’ll probably get more people to the event, and hopefully they’ll try dpsing all the mobs as quickly as possible.

I also recommend doing the Gates to Arah event chain, since you can get a chest with which I believe has like a 90% chance of giving you at least a rare inside the chest (I’ve always gotten at least a rare every time I opened this chest these past few weeks), although the chest doesn’t appear like the daily bonus chest like other bosses. The Gates to Arah events also features hundreds of mob to kill, so you can collect those precious t6 mats along the way towards getting the chest at the end.

If you’re interested in activating this meta-event, I recommend reading my post at this topic, since the pre-event required to activate the event chain is quite hard.

Buff all low level world bosses

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Wift.9862

Wift.9862

Anet shouldn’t just buff all low level world bosses. They should buff ALL world bosses.

I remember watching this video of when Tequatl was first shown to the public before the game came out, and I was incredibly hyped, thinking to myself “wow, I can’t wait to coordinate with other players manning and defending turrets, breaking shields, and rezzing npc’s to defeat this large tough epic dragon!”

When I finally fought Tequatl in the real game, I was deeply disappointed, since it didn’t take long for players to realize that Tequatl is so easy, you don’t have to bother with all the dynamics of the fight. All you have to do is simply run up to the dragon and mash all your skills against him. No one gives a kitten about the turrets, the megalaser, or even the huge giant barriers protecting the dragon, simply because there was no point when the boss is so easy.

Sad part of the game is, essentially 90% of all world boss encounters play like this, and anyone expecting any sort decent challenge through the open world part of this game will likely end up disappointed.

IMO, I really think Anet should put increasing the difficulty of these world bosses as very high in their priority list, as these giant world bosses are one of the main attractions to this game, and they are really ruining the image of this game by having these world bosses being so easy.

Is everyone's arah gate event broken?

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Wift.9862

Wift.9862

The Gates to Arah meta-event isn’t broken. It’s just that the pre-event required to start the chain is hard for most players to do, so most players don’t bother with it. It’s why you’ll most likely see the Anchorage wp always being contested, because just about everyone fails the event to open it.

The pre-event I’m talking about required to open the Gates to Arah is called “Get Warmaster Chan to Shank Anchorage before the troops’ morale breaks.” Most people fail this event because the Risen nobles that spawn always do major damage to npc’s,, causing the morale to go to 0, which in turn, fails the event.

Though this event might seem impossible to do, I’ve been able to successfully succeed at this event multiple times these past couple days with my Guardian after tons of trial and error. The key to succeeding at this event is simply focus on killing the Risen Nobles as fast as possible, before they get to strike the npc’s. The best way to do this is with like a small group of 1-4 people, since any more than that, you’ll risk the event scale too high, in which too many Risen nobles spawn. I highly recommend turning on the “see all enemy names” option in the menu before doing this event, as it greatly helps in detecting the Risen Nobles. If you fail the event, you can always try again, as the event always starts up again 10 minutes after failure.

Just realized: This isn´t fun

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Well, the truth is, the reason they probably made that achievement is so you would have incentives to not only explore the area, but experience some of the new events as you come along them with the living story.

The problem is, the new events aren’t quite interesting at all. They play just like any other event you’d see in Guild Wars 2, and they simply don’t offer any sort of challenge to high-level players, other than offering the same old trash mobs to spam your skills against.

If Anet could just find some way to make these events actually feel unique, interesting and challenging to players, then perhaps these scavenger hunts would be much more worthwhile and entertaining.

Balthazar event impossible to complete

If you have a guardian, you can significantly increase the rate of survivability of the npc’s if you constantly use staff and shielding skills on the npc’s. Wall of reflection, and shield of the avenger should put a stop to all ranged enemy attacks. If the enemies do dmg and get close to the npc’s, the guardian staff skills should heal a decent amount of hp to the npc’s.

In my experience, it’s usually better to have a zerg defending the npc’s, as a small group of 5 or so people aren’t usually enough to cover all fronts in which the enemies will be attacking at the same time.

If they made all these chests and rewards once per day per account then they might as well just erase 7 of my characters and give me 7 more bank slots since that’s all they’d be good for. I shouldn’t be punished for having worked hard at making alts.

The point of alts shouldn’t be to reap better rewards, but to simply play the game in another style, and get a almost totally different experience. Having people with alts getting substantially better rewards would be ridiculously unfair to people that have less time to play the game, and are unable to make alts for themselves.

Strongly disagree with new chest loot.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wift.9862

Wift.9862

I would agree that it is too much IF these chests weren’t limited to once per day per character. This alone prompts people not to sit all day at the same handful of events and encourages players to do other events.

Well said!

You can camp your character and not move them, but then you’re not getting any other loot. The way it’s done now is fair and balanced, I like that I can hit these events once per day and have a shot at some half descent loot for once.

I wouldn’t mind as much if they were account bound. But character bound? No way. I have 3 80s, and all my guildies have quite a few. We were just cycling through our characters doing behemoth/maw/fire elemental/jormag on 3 servers until I felt super silly.

I do agree that the rewards should be account bound. Having the rewards character bound makes the bosses easily farmable, and totally against what Anet intended to do with these reward changes.

Strongly disagree with new chest loot.

With this change, you can be doing anything in the game, and earn the around the same amount of rewards, regardless if you’re doing dungeons, Fractals or world events. I for one, welcome this change, and hope Anet doesn’t nerf these world event chests.

But you don’t get the same amount of rewards.

I no longer have a motivation to do fractals for loot. Why bother, when you can get the same amount of rares easier and faster?

Dungeons too. The only dungeon paths remotely similar to profitability to this new event-spamming is CoF 1.

With fractals/dungeons, at least you had to work for it. (Not CoF1, but that’s also a problem.)

I just did Maw in like 1 minute, with all the people zerging it, and got a rare for it. The reward/effort is completely out of skew.

To be quite honest, Fractals is really done just for ascended gear, not loot, so lets leave that out of the equation.

Most dungeon paths can be done in 20-30 minutes with a good-average group. That’s 60 tokens worth two rares, plus 25 silver and other chests along the way. Most events like Claw of Jormag, Shatterer, etc, take more than 15 minutes when you include the pre-events. You spend even more time if you’re just waiting for the event to start, so time it takes for completion ranges to like 1-45 minutes, for one chest with 1-2 rares and chance of other loot.

If you think about it, the rewards are really roughly the same. The game is just now making it more encouraging to do stuff other than fractals and dungeons all the time.

Strongly disagree with new chest loot.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wift.9862

Wift.9862

Recently, I remember Colin Johanson saying that one of the gameplay philosophies is about having the rewards respect people’s time. I think the update with the almost guaranteed rares reflects that change. Most of these world bosses take longer than 15 minutes to do, when you consider having to do pre-events alongside them, not to mention having to also wait for the events to start.

Before this update, the only way to get as much profit is by farming CoF or other area’s and doing the same thing over and over again. This change makes it more encouraging to actually have fun and get rewarded at the same time rather than be bored and get rewarded at the same time, because you’re encouraged to do all kinds of different events during the day.

With this change, you can be doing anything in the game, and earn the around the same amount of rewards, regardless if you’re doing dungeons, Fractals or world events. I for one, welcome this change, and hope Anet doesn’t nerf these world event chests.

Where is the Dragon mountain from the teaser?

Yeah, I should have seen every place in the live game. But some parts of the trailer are unknown (never played GW1 though). I am especially interested in the following two places.

Concept art: 1:30

Gameplay: 2:35 – 2:43

Any ideas?

The concept art at 1:30 is the concept art of the city of Ebonhawke i think, in which you can find the city in the map of Fields of Ruin.

After watching the trailer more closely, I noticed while a ton of maps look familiar from the trailer, most of em have changed since the release of the game. The interior of Rata Sum from the trailer for example, looks nothing like the interior we see of Rata Sum in-game. I guess that Dragon mountain I expected to see was one of the cut content we saw from the trailer.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wift.9862

The latest blog post already addressed these concerns with these quotes:

“Expanded and re-designed encounters for bosses in dungeons and the open world.”

“Guilds are extremely important to the game. We need to ensure there is a volume of content to foster this strong community/social bond. To that end, we’re working on adding new types of content to the game in early 2013 that will allow guilds to go on missions together. Some of these missions may be content designed specifically for the guild to accomplish within certain constraints or time requirements, while others will see the creation of new content by a guild/s everyone in the world can experience. Over time we’ll continue to expand this system with new guild rewards, missions, and tools to allow guilds of all sizes to play a stronger part in solidifying the communities of the GW2 world.”

As a person that’s played this game for 900+ hours, I think the core game plays just fine. My only problem with the game is that for most of the mobs in the open world, you can essentially use the same strategy to defeat them, which makes the open world feel very repetitive at times.

In the future, I’d like to see much different varieties of mobs that involve different strategies to defeat, much like the Karka we saw at Southsun Cove. However, I don’t expect these changes to come until a major expansion come out.

Hopefully, with these early 2013 changes, we can hopefully expect some of the really gigantic world bosses to be re-designed so they become more difficult and actually fun to do. I’d be content with seeing the starter area meta-bosses not go down in like less than five minutes.

These guild missions sound very intriguing too, and I’d very much like to see group events in the open world that require real coordination to do with like 20+ people, much like the Temple of Bathlazaar boss event.

Create incentives to do different DE's

in Suggestions

Posted by: Wift.9862

Wift.9862

Lately these past couple of months, I’ve noticed that most people in this game just grind the same events over and over rather than wanting to explore and doing different events, because grinding events is seen to be much more efficient way to get rewards.

As a person that just likes to play for fun and do different events, I find this terrible, since most people would just stick to the same event chain over and over, while leaving the other events just plain idle. This case appears to be most obvious in places like Cursed Shore, in which people would just stick to farming a couple waypoints, or farming Temple events, instead of doing the other ton of events in the map.

While grinding is common in MMO’s, Guild Wars 2 isn’t meant to be like any other MMO, and I believe Anet should change this, because this basically goes against Anet’s gameplay philosophy of creating a non-grindy game.

If Anet could just create more incentives for people to do different dynamic events, I think it would bump this game’s fun level dramatically. There are many ways to create incentives for players to do different events, such as giving a buff that increases mf or stats for each different event completed. Anet could also add achievements for doing events, or apply diminished returns on doing the same event again, so people go and do a different one.

With a game with so many dynamic events, and many people probably only experiencing less than 50% of it, I think it would be a real waste if Anet decided not to do this. So please Anet, if you’re reading this, please apply some incentives for people to do different events. Such simple changes could go a long way in making this game much better than it already is.

What makes a good Commander?

in WvW

Posted by: Wift.9862

Wift.9862

There are many things that make a good Commander:

1. Experience – A Commander must know different and good strategies on taking down each area. Strategies such as knowledge on where to appropriately plant siege or how to effectively flank an area is vital in WvW.

2. Communication – A Commander must be able to convince the team into following his/her orders. This can easily be done by reasonably explaining their strategy with their team, and keeping their team up-to-date on what’s going on in WvW. Aside from giving orders in WvW, a Commander must also be capable of working with other players and leaders, so they can not only be able to coordinate strategies, but also be kept up-to-date on things such as where the enemies are coming from or what a keep’s health is at.

3. Raising Morale – A good Commander must be able to keep morale high, even when your team is losing. Though morale is mostly gained by achieving victory, a good Commander must do their job in raising morale by congratulating their team through any victory, no matter how small, and be able to gather their team for another coordinated strike, even when all hope seems lost. Above all, a good Commander never puts his team down in any way, such as calling his team “noobs, idiots, failures, etc.”

4. Giving Tips – A good Commander is experienced, and must always expect that each player may not be as experienced as they are. In any case, a good Commander should always give out any tips from past experiences to help other players become as experienced as they are. Simple tips such as telling people to not take supply from the keeps, or always telling people to re-supply can be vital in WvW.

I’ve been lurking around the forums and no one’s been talking about any new events added in the Halloween patch, which I think is kinda odd. Out of those 30+ new events they added, at least one has got to be really interesting.

Anyways, post here if you know of any new events, or if you know of an really interesting event chain, even if it’s old.

What can a WvW newb do for starters?

One of the things that I don’t see many people do, that which is really important for WvW, is simply communication. When you’re in WvW, please relay ANY information that you might think could be useful. Things like, where the enemies are coming from, what keep is being taken, how much health a gate has, etc, are VERY important information in which everyone should do their best to relay.

Many times in WvW, I will see keeps being taken because no one called for support, or an area getting surprised attack, because the people that saw the enemies gave no warning. In WvW, it’s really all about strategy and not skill. With strategy, communication is key.

The boss is actually quite easy since the only real strategy required for killing him is just to tell map chat to not rez defeated players. Anet needs more bosses like this, because this is honestly like the only boss in the whole game capable of taking down a zerg.

I’m actually disappointed that Orr isn’t harder than it already is. There isn’t much in this game that actually requires a coordinated group to play with, besides WvW, dungeons and sPvP. I was hoping that Orr would feel like a struggle, that actually required players to unite and plan about how to attack these supposedly deadly monsters. Instead, it just felt like another couple of zones to zerg with a couple random groups. Little to no coordination required.

I hope for expansions, Anet makes some raid-like dungeon zones, because these zones really lack any challenge what-so-ever.
