A well played phantasm mesmer is extremely hard to beat an especially hard for a melee class like dd ele.
Keep practicing duels and you will recognize the attacks + attack patterns of each class.

I find it extremely hard to play glassy dd ele without cantrips in our current state. The moment you jump in to a team fight doing aoe-burst you will be targeted straight away. I used to play 0/20/0/20/30 with zerker amu for good dps but since I relied heavily on RTL on survival I’ve changed to the cantrip build + zerk amulet. The damage is not that good though..
So frustrating for me at the moment, cannot seem to find that “perfect” dps dd ele build.

The best bosses in this game are no doubt Shaman(volcanic fractal) and dredge (ice fractal). Lupi also deserves a special mention. Every other boss in this game is just too easy allowing us to face tank with no problems. Seriously anet, good job with Shaman and dredge because this is how you create challenging content, not by adding more hp.
Please shift the focus of dungeons to bosses and make trash mobs “trash”.

Ah I believe you may have messed up the “99%” trick. This is when we leave one person dead and res them up to 99% health before the agony hits. Once agony hits, we resurrect them allowing them to be invulnerable to the agony. If this trick is not performed it will be difficult to survive the agony without tomes to stack heal or ranger pet res.
It is your party’s fault in this case since they did not explain what to do.

There are plenty of videos of Eles taking on more than 1 opponent. But you have to remember most of these videos involve a decent player against a few noobs in wvw running pve builds. When playing in a balanced setting such as spvp, it should not be possible for any class to take down multiple enemies provided that the players are of equal skill.

Water and arcana Are fine. If the other trait lines were buffed, they could be nerfed.
No need to nerf. At the current state Water 30 and Arcana 30 are on par with most other cookie cutter builds in the game. Buffing other elements and nerfing water/arcana will only result in the elementalist having one viable build again. We need more options, not just a new ‘standard’ build which will replace the cantrip build.
Other than that, I think your insights are great and I hope Anet will carefully read this entire thread.

Elementalist, mesmers and thieves are all solid roamers. I didn’t mention warrior even though they have one of the highest mobility in the game(higher than ele) because I feel that they cannot really stand their own in 1vX situations. Basically any dueling professions are great roamers provided that they have decent mobility or escape tools.

I’ve tried a few different builds this week for the DD ele like signet and glyph builds but they simply do not work. The dd ele is all about close quarter combat hence stunbreakers are a must which is why the cantrip build will always be the number 1 build for the dd ele.

I am also leaving quite often when I see I play with pug vs team……sorry but I wont waste my time just because ANET isnt competitive enough to split it for solo players and teams….everytime I log off I can do food for me or other things till match is over so….
yeah its pretty smart, your going to lose anyways so why even try right? Better to go take a break while stupid stuff like that happens rather than get frustrated that you cant kill anything and your team isn’t very good because the other team a premade is just facerolling you.
Why even play tournaments then? Just don’t join at all if you are afraid of facing a premade. Go play some hotjoin or pve, tpvp does not need people like you.

Nothing strange in that. When You have premade team vs pug it’s hard to expect fair fight. You can try, get frustrated and waste those 15 minutes, or go make yourself some coffe.
That is unacceptable. The moment someone presses the “solo join” button they accept the fact that there is a chance he/she will face a premade team. It is simple, if you do not want to play against a premade do not play tournaments. Please do not use premades as an excuse to afk/leave. There are many serious solo queue-ers like me who still want to give it their all even when facing a premade a team. It is extremely unfair for us when a player leaves/afk just because we are faced with a premade.

I’ll take a look at how it compares to Necro staff auto. I will say that when this does hit it is the highest DPS #1 skill in the game. We wanted it to feel this powerful but difficult to land but the effect may be too exaggerated. I’ll play some PvE and PvP scepter Guardian later today.

Sounds good, except the forum trolls have no clue what they just asked you to do and you’re going to ‘fix’ something that isn’t broken.
I hope you see this: The problem isn’t that it’s difficult to land, the problem is that some fool that is strafing left to right very quickly can avoid scepter 100% of the time. There is a video of it somewhere and if anyone would post it or send it to you, you can assess for yourself the issue.
Yeah, I just did this today on my dd ele against a guard while i was capping a point. It was so funny watching the orbs flying past me while i simply moved left and right.

I support this thread. This game strives to be an esport but lacks the features to become one. And judging from the amount of comments in this thread there seems to be a lack of interest from people wanting this to become an esport let alone the fact there is a general lack of interest in spvp.

I actually agree with what Leif wrote. If you have ever used the spectator mode of games like DoTA 2 then you will see where he is coming from. Spectator mode is currently only in place for non-ranked matches i.e hotjoins and only allows for a few number of spectators. This is an extremely limited spectator mode.
Anet needs to add a spectator mode for tournaments where players actually play the game instead of zerging mindlessly for glory points. There needs to be a delay to the actual game for spectators to prevent cheating. And they must not restrict the number of spectators because everyone wants to watch the best play.
I dont think this game can ever reach e-sport status even though I can see that the developers are quite dedicated to making spvp better. Turning this game into an e-sport is too difficult since it has a PvE component. Unless the developers are totally dedicated to spvp at the expense of neglecting pve, I don’t see this game becoming an esport.

I am a solo tpvper (my friends show no interest in pvp) and I play tournaments solo on a daily basis. The biggest problem I have with tpvp is not with playing against premades, I have beaten premades before with other solo-ers who communicated well and most importantly “wanted to win”.
At the moment the solo queue is plagued with players who do not give a flying cat about the match. Yes, I’m talking about the afkers, leavers and the noobs who have no idea what to do. Problems will still remain if a solo queue is introduced, there will still be afkers, leavers and noobs.
The only way to solve this is to tackle the issue at it’s core. We need to stop these afkers from afking. We need to stop these leavers from leaving. And we need to stop these noobs from noobing.
Compare the pugs of Dota 2/LoL to GW2. They are of completely different calibers. “Most” moba pugs are so dedicated to winning, they understand this word called “Teamwork”.

Problem is that anything non-bunker is getting hit harder. There are other viable builds out there (I enjoy my glassy D/D), but they’re becoming harder to play with each patch. And they still aren’t adding anything to really compensate and encourage build variety.

I believe I have met these “WM traitors” last night, several people claimed they ran with WM while in Kaineng. They didn’t say anything bad about WM though, in fact they spoke very highly of your guild.

Sticking with glassy dd ele build even though this is the build that will be hit hardest by the nerf. I dislike playing bunker because it takes too long to kill an opponent.
I will never stop playing dd ele no matter how much they nerf it. The skill set of the dd ele is just too fluid, everything feels so smooth. All the other melee skills of other classes feel too clunky and “cheap”. There is no flow unlike like the DD ele.

I am really only familiar with 3 classes for PvE: ele, guard and war. Eles are so kitten in PvE…
Warrior – good survivability, good dps, average support(banners)
Guardian – good survivability, average dps, good support
Ele – low survivability, average dps(being generous here), average support
Clearly warrior is in the god-tier of pve yet Anet still decides to buff them. While ele’s are kitten tier and gets nerfed. I understand the balancing are largely for pvp but they should also take PvE in to consideration.

COF1 needs a buff so that these zerk warriors will finally need to use some skill rather than face tanking everything in the dungeon. This solves everything, it encourages class diversity and reduces the over-generous rewards of COF1. Two birds in one stone. So simple.

There is no need for guilds to deny the fact that they are part of the bandwagon and there is also no need for people to hate on these guilds.
There is nothing wrong with a WvW wanting guild to change servers to find that “better fight”. Why stay in a server we feel that has become stale or exhausted? Why stay in a server that will drop tiers and no longer be able to fight strong guilds of the upper tiers? Why must we sacrifice our enjoyment just for the sake of server loyalty?

I am certain WM and RISE have left or are still in the process of transferring their members to Blackgate as I have already fought some of them here in t1.
I believe a few other guilds in Kaineng are either planning to move soon or still indecisive. Who knows? Maybe this is only a slight set back for Kaineng.
Are we sure [RISE] are going to blackgate? Thing is Ive seen about 50 recruiting advertisements in JQ server for [RISE] in the past 24 hours. Or is there another RISE now? Or are they actively recruiting JQ players and then getting them to transfer to Blackgate?
I saw one RISE member from Blackgate the night before reset, not a mob. I dont know, maybe they are scouting?

Please add timers on siege weapons in wvw allowing players to know when the siege are about to expire so we can refresh them.
This can be so easy to achieve, you just need to add a little bar on top of every siege which slowly decreases during the time it has not been in use.

Anet’s goal was to punish the X/X/X/30/30 “BUNKER” DD Ele build but what they are doing in fact is destroying the zerker dd ele which is in no way OP. This RTL nerf will severely limit the viability of all non-bunker dd ele builds.
Anet, what is it that you want to do? Do you want to reduce the effectiveness of the cantrip dd ele? Or do you want everyone to stop playing the Elementalist all together?

I also agree that we should be able to salvage ascended rings. I know a common argument against this is that this would give “fractal farmers” an advantage. This is not really the case since the rings are only obtainable from the daily chest. An average player would obtain a few at most per day.
Even a more devoted FOTM player would not gain much from farming dailies. I will use myself as an example:
I have two characters with fractal level 40+. This means I have access to eight level 10+ fractals, which means I can get a max of 8 rings a day. Obviously I would be lucky enough to get even 4 rings depending on the RNG. Also, no sane person would even do 8 fractal runs a day. A fast fractal run can completed in under an hour, however at higher levels they can get dragged up to 2 hours depending on group/fractal maps etc. Basically, “ring farming” is not really efficient. I can probably gain more by farming rares.
I have over 40+ rings, but it is something I have accumulated over a month or two which is quite a long period of time.
In short, there is really no such thing as “ring farming” and FOTM frequenters do not really gain a significant advantage from salvaging rings.
I know this is going off topic, but I just want to explain why being able to salvage these rings would not hurt or disadvantage casual players.

Has anyone else noticed how much harder it is to jump past that tree located in the top left corner of the swamp map (the tree near the skelk wisp)? This has made it very difficult to return the top left and middle wisp. The player is required to take a detour to the right making the journey back to the collection point much longer.
I know the tree is not completely blocked off since I had one or two successful jumps after 10 or so tries, but it is significantly harder to get through compared to before.
Was this intentional by the developers to further “slow” down the swamp fractal?

You know what the funny thing is? It is the fact that barely anyone complains about AoE OPness, yet these guys at Anet think it is a good idea to nerf them.
I myself main a DD ele and AoEs are not causing the “OPness” . What makes the DD ele strong are our heals, boons and condition removal. If you reduce the AoE effectiveness, all you will be doing is making staff eles even more obsolete.

I dont understand Anet. Isnt the staff ele already kitten enough? If you reduce the effectiveness of AoEs, elementalists will become obsolete in dungeons. Right now single target classes such as guardian and warrior dominate PvE dungeons such as FoTM. I see no sense in nerfing AoEs at all.
And when you look at wvw, the only thing that is OP is the thief. I really have no idea what these devs are thinking.

I say suck it up and grind for dungeon armour. It won’t take long to get your entire set by farming tokens. It takes too long to earn money in wvw and is too reliant on how well your server is doing.

Today, for the first time I dueled a Pistol/Dagger thief. The fight lasted for 5+ minutes and ended in a stalemate. It was so hard for each of us to get the other down because I had my constant heals and he had his constant stealths. I tried spamming aoe but he wasnt glass cannon making aoe spam quite ineffective. I tried keeping my distance to avoid his cloak and dagger, but that made it easy for him to kite me.
Im not a pro but I say I am pretty decent at pvp and I generally have no problem winning duels against other classes. Any advice?

I agree, we need more ascended rings with healing stats. Why is there no ascended counterpart of sapphire cleric’s ring in the first place? It is one of the most commonly used exotic rings.

0 in water and earth, 15 in arcane. You can already guess what this build is.
Glass cannon build works fine in sPvP and occasionally in wvw. It plays like a suicide bomber, RTL → updraft → burning speed etc etc etc
In PvP, I think ele is fine, pve is where the problem is. Elementalists are supposed to be the nukers of MMO, instead they are only viable as clerics in this game. It’s ridiculous.
