I do not understand why Anet has not implemented such a server where you can PvP anywhere except for main cities. DAoC had modred so its a workable concept.

Modred is exactly the reason they won’t do it. DAOC created their FFA server, population flocked to it enough they opened a second FFA server. In a very very short time both servers population declined to nothing when everyone realized it was nothing more then level 50’s ganking new players etc. Complete waste of resource.
The stealth in ESO is significantly different the GW2. You crouch, move slower, use stamina (and that is a bigger deal then it sounds) and are far easier to detect. Most important however is once combat starts you can’t re-stealth over and over and over. Nightshade can use a stealth while in combat but it is short and sure as hell not teleporting miles away, curing conditions and healing at the same time
On the downside in ESO every class can stealth, and if you attack from behind no matter the class you can do significant opening damage. The stealth mechanics in GW2 are the worst I have ever seen in a game, but not sure how much better everyone having stealth is going to be in ESO, LOL

Variety from zerg to small group, to solo roaming option
Variety from defending to open field, to tower/keep taking
Realm ranks without the Power creep that ruins every other pvp style game

Truth be told, most aspects of the things I dislike about WvW could be solved (for me) by making the maps 5 times bigger
Stealth, not just thieves but any class, stealth has always been a broken mechanic to me
PvE mobs. I understand why they are there, but would love to have them removed
Resource nodes belong to me, no worry about bots cleaning out all the resources like every other mmorpg
Join in on a mob someone else is fighting, does not hurt the person you are helping and you also get credit/drops
Being able to go to a lower level zone to play with friends with lower level toons and not punishing them or myself
PvP is scenario or WvW and not the open world ganking of low levels, and you can compete in sPvP right at level 1
My guess is that part of the reason there is no trading system is to help combat the Bot/Gold seller issue. Mail system lets them data mine a little easier. Far as I know there is no tax on mailed items and the cost is low
We need more things to use them on or to atleast be able to sell them. Myself and tons and tons of other people have gotten to the point we just destroy them. They take up inventory space.
Without giving any specifics, I’d highly recommend you change that strategy. There are things coming soon that will give you lots to spend it on.

The next earliest game update is Jan 21. I am guessing it will be some time after that before we see whatever it was Devon was hinting at
Never like the concept of punishing everyone because a small percentage abuse things. You don’t remove an entire forum because some people abuse it. You perma ban the abusers, you ban them quickly, and you let the majority of the community who aren’t kittens enjoy the forum
I have no objection to the concept of a free for all PvP server other then the resources that the developers would need to spend on it. My feeling is it would go just like the open PvP servers in DAOC went. Super popular when opened, enough so that they opened a second server of that type. A few months later both servers were ghost towns and all the resources were a waste.
They could of course do a simple thing to see if there is an interest and offset the cost. Offer a special gem store PvP server only transfer service, you pre-purchase it, and if there is enough sales, you create the server. If there is not enough the players get the gems restored to their existing account
It is tough to get as many people in to TS or any server oriented voip as commanders would want. Part of the issue (at least on my server) with the big TS is the language and shouting. It is hard to control a server wide voip vs the private voips many people use. Really all you can do is spam your servers TS info occasionally
I salvaged them from the named rabid gear available on TP, so guessing any dungeon piece that is salvageable will have chance to drop the insignia

I think it is a combination of league burn out and closer matching for the week. In a couple weeks of random match ups and you will see the normal variance
I have far more issue with the unlimited knockdown/snare/stun/fear meta of WvW then conditions. With conditions I typically have time to clear or move away or heal as I try to fight. Knockdown and big dps by a power attack and there is a far greater chance I will be dead before I can even react. Knockdown and conditions and I will likely be able to act
I have never quite understood the “there is to much for me to do, so I won’t play” thought process. Imagine how bored the player base would be if everything could be completed in 2-3 hours a week. I play a fair amount a week and yet come no where close to finishing a ton of objectives. What I do is enjoy whatever I choose to do at any moment, vs hating over what I don’t do.
I would. Simple for me really. Fight weekly in WvW like I do season or no season, yet with the season I get a little bonus chest in the end, so why wouldn’t I? It’s not like the meta was hard to complete if you play WvW on any kind of regular basis. If I was a PvE player who came simply for the chest, then probably no
Searched for a while but did not find any related topics over the interface in WvW when it comes to interaction such as invites etc.
Are there plans to change the interface around group invites, removing from group, whispers, etc. We all know right now when in WvW that the only option that ever comes up is “report”. Can not use guild window to invite to group etc. Even more disturbing now is the Gold Spammers using whisper in WvW 24/7. While you can go through the process of trying to spell their silly names correctly in the contacts window, this is time consuming and somewhat frustrating.
Not sure what the technical issue is around having the interface the same in WvW as it is in PvE for invites, etc. Are there any plans to change the way this works in WvW?
Personally I think I would prefer it if WvW gear was like sPvP. Let the rest remain the same and working towards rank titles etc. For the pure WvW players, crafting is a negative. Having said that WvW is supposed to be a mixture of pvp and PvE so I get it. Getting exotic gear with badges was a nice touch, maybe would be nice if we could get ascended armor with some combo of badges and ascended T7 crafting mats, but I doubt that will happen for a long time
We definitely need to work on this situation, and from what I understand, we have a few recommendations and thoughts about how to ease RMT (gold seller) harassment via whispers.
If we had a means to remove those spammers instantly, we’d do it. But because we want to — and need to — verify each report, it can take time to nail the… I mean “address the issue.” ~ahem~
Please DO know that your reports are recorded and if an agent can’t “take out the garbage” instantly, he or she will do so as soon as possible. Please DO keep on reporting, and know that we sincerely appreciate your taking the time to do that.
In other games when you “report” a gold seller it sends the actual gold spam text to a GM or automated collection file. If you had a live person who saw these reported spams, that person could immediately close the account (either temporarily or permanent). If gold spammers started getting the accounts closed within 5 minutes of the first spam, it would stop pretty kitten quick.
The argument that many of the gold spammers are from stolen accounts is not a real argument. If an account is stolen, no matter what it is used for, the owner will always have to contact Anet and go through the process of retrieving the account. Getting a “account closed” email from Anet will simply let people know even sooner that their account has been hacked.
my guess is, players on every server will get some things for completing the meta, and the top servers will get a bit more, like every competition.
PPT, roaming, loot, siege defense, siege offense, occasional 1v1, ranks, server pride, easy daily, badges, occasional hatred of some servers LOL
2 steps to stopping the siege grievers (Anet has not actually admitted it is even against the rules yet btw)
A report option that describes grieving (siege grieving or whatever term they use) so multiple reports build quickly, and then Anet would need to have actual in game GMs who can respond in a timely manner to see the grievers in action.
Any bootable/bannable option should only be done by Anet GMs, NEVER by players
Truth be told, 99% of last week was nothing more then YB focusing on SBI at the beginning of the week to try for the win. By Wed. it became clear that SBI was not being effective and that there was a real possibility that EB could come in second and the alliance became more real, with Friday being an all out effort to drive SBI to third
I know there has been a lot of hate posts as an excuse, but what has SBI really done. plenty of servers have had band wagon guilds, all servers have their kittenwads who laugh, spawn camp, and forum trolls, you name it. Being on YB all I heard for most of the week was “lets keep the pressure on SBI” !!!. None of the forum hate messages that tried to describe the week. Don’t take the forums to serious.
I think you are bound to get a lot of hate/joke responses to this question lol. Guardians, eles, hammer warriors seem to take up a majority of the slots. A necro or two for well of corruption, and Mesmer/thief for group stealth never hurts. We will see how the ratio of warrior changes after dec 10 reduces hammer dps.
On the positive side you really can mix up the group however you want, you simply need to modify the way your blob moves depending on the type of fight

Not allowed to post names on forums. The guild ODG is “Old Dirty Gamers”. You can guess from the name why they are doing things like sabotage. I did report them but that is pretty much a useless exercise with no in game GMs.

Simple. That rule applies to PvP, not WvWvW. ladders and matches in PvP is completely different then the WvW set up

The question really at this point is what is the overall game population. If it is simply transfers then they may offer incentives to move to lower populated servers. If the game population overall is dwindling you will likely see server mergers
That won’t happen because WvW presence doesn’t have a relation with total server population. Mass transfers made sure of that.
I was not talking about WvW population only. part of the OP concern was not enough population to do PvE events (like Tequatyl). I was talking overall game and server population

Have to disagree with OP view of honorable/dishonorable. Far as I am concerned the only dishonorable people are the cheaters/hackers. Claiming someone is dishonorable because they don’t fight the way you want them to seems a bit silly to me.
As far as the sad sad people who emote over dead bodies, 2 things to remember. First, simply turn off emotes in your WvW chat window (did that months ago). Second, think about how sad the people are that are doing what you describe and feel pity for them
There is only a 20k point difference to overcome. It’s still possible for SBI to win the week, unless EB decides to play spoiler and focus SBI while YB does the same. A true 2 v 1 would seal the deal most likely.
Weekend is over. SBI’s greater numbers and SEA will swing the rest of the week in their favor. Not a bad thing just reality. I know people like to claim the 2v1 thing but EB is simply good at defending their homeland, so SBI won’t get hours of 500+PPT, but numbers will tell by the end of the week. The good thing about this week is it should not be a total blow out, and all 3 servers should actually be able to have fun

Servers were unbalanced before league, guilds jumped ship before league, weekly matches were a mess before league, etc etc.
What league did do is bring way more people out even if in a lot of cases it was temporary. It gave some new achievments, some slightly new chest rewards, the final reward of course at the end which we still speculate about. In short it gave us some new rewards, definetey more people, something to follow.
It did not change anything that was happening previous to league. Sure, the top 3 servers were going to win (we don’t know what they won yet) but those top 3 servers were going to stomp everyone else weekly anyway
The hope is that they learn from the first league, take feedback, etc. so future attempts make WvW better.
I really like the one idea about the final week having the top 3 of each bracket, compete together. take it step further and have every 3 ranks of each bracket fight during the final week. Even if you are not going to win top 3, likely it would be a closer match up and bragging rights is everything

Just to be clear, rabid weapons could be salvaged for rabid inscriptions “before” ascended weapon crafting was introduced. the same is not true for armor crafting
Only problem with that is that it is not actually true. It arrived at the same time as ascended weapon crafting.
Have to disagree with this. I crafted exotic rabid weapons pre-ascended weapon crafting. I am going off memory btw and I am old and senile. I really wish someone from Anet would simply confirm that Rabid Ascended armor will be available for crafting

Assuming this topic is on the CDI process, and not on WvW topics itself. I like your 3 main points as a guide line. One thing I would add. A message when people log into game that says something along the lines of "New CDI topics on GW2 Forums please visit “insert link” to follow/voice opinion etc." Hopefully this would get more people onto the forums to get a wider feedback
weapon crafting allows you to salvage gear with rabid stats to get “rabid imbued inscriptions” however breaking down rabid armor does not allow you to get “rabid gossamer insignias” If ascended armor crafting works like the weapon crafting then this is going to be an issue. Just to be clear, rabid weapons could be salvaged for rabid inscriptions “before” ascended weapon crafting was introduced. the same is not true for armor crafting
good to know that dungeon armor can be broken down. Right now there is no crafting of rabid armor even for exotic. It is one main reason I am concerned for Ascended. I had to get my existing rabid armor from temples, wvw badges etc
Oh please no! I’m very happy for the OP that he’s doing content which allows him to “swim” in these materials, I certainly do not. They are an incredible grind to acquire. We need more empyal shards, not less!
The problem appears to be:
PvE (temples) = get dragonite ore
WvW = get empyreal shardsBalance them out and you’ve got a more healthy situation.
Kind of curious how OP (me) said anything about swimming in mats and asking for less? Pretty sure all I asked for is that everyone participating in a keep?tower keep gets rewarded.
problem is (besides typo in title) is that the rabid armor I have seen is all from WvW gear, dungeons or karma, none of which can be broken down. Take a look on Trading post. It is easy to buy rabid orichalcum imbued inscriptions for weapon crafting but there are no rabid gossamer insignias. that’s why I am worried there will be no rabid stats ascended armor
With upcoming ascended armor crafting, I am not seeing how we will be able to craft rabid gear. I have seen no way to craft rabid gossamer insignias. Guessing I am missing something but I am kind of concerned at the moment

I have only had dragonite drop from keep Lords, never from tower Lords. Currently in the bank I have amassed 3,000 Empyreal fragments and 1,620 Bloodstone Dust but have yet to collect enough dragonite for one Ascended weapon. Sad it is seeing as to how I have gained over 100 ranks in total between my toons since the season began and got the Season 1 key at the start of the second week. Must I go to PvE to get the dragonite I require?
In WvW dragonite only drops from bay, hills, and garrison, and usually only3-5. You have to do some PvE unfortunately to get any reasonable amounts of dragonite
I have seen a decent improvement. Funny was commenting on it in guild chat earlier in the week when I was involved in a HUGE 3way SM fight and could actually move and use my abilities. Some of it of course depends on your own PC/settings
For WvW I would really like to see them drop when getting credit for keep/tower/camp take vs damage to the champion. If players are in a real battle when taking garrison for example with a lot of defenders, players need to go up on ramps to take out AC’s fight the defenders in all areas of the keep etc. meanwhile some players need to take down the Lord. Unfortunately only the players hitting the lord get the ore and stars
Everyone is needed for the full keep take, everyone should get the reward. May be a technical reason tying the drops to the Lord, but would be nice if all got rewarded for the hard (potentially) work
Nice post. I agree wvw can be a lot of fun when you get the right mindset on it. There are still issues that need resolved but progress is being made and only the constructive feedback from the community can help that. Otherwise enjoy it for what it is, a game.
Constructive feedback from the WvW community over the course of several months didn’t get us ANYTHING … not acknowledgements, not responses, not actions. There is over a year’s worth of forum history that you can browse if you don’t believe me, and if you can spot anything positive to come out of the WvW “collaborative” thread that was just closed please point them out for me.
A game is only a game if there is enough balance to make it one. Otherwise it’s just an experience.
I pretty much disagree with this. I have been on the forums since day one and as much as my post was a positive one, I have made my complaints/suggestions also. It is an impossible task to make every one happy. Since release they have added Ranks, WvW abilities that they keep adding more, numerous adjustments to classes based on players feedback, adjusted arrow carts etc. based on player feedback.
They worked kitten changing the horrible rendering design based on player feedback. They added ruins to maps for some extra options. They are adding the new map for overflow issues. The collaborative thread was closed (I think this is a mistake also) but the actions are not done, it is just one step (the feedback step). They gave us leagues, and for all the issues it still is them adding and trying new stuff
Overall they had a pretty decent starting point and yet keep adding and changing and most of those changes are based on player feedback. I am sure I missed plenty, just as I am sure they will continue to make changes based on players wants/feedback.
Disclaimer. yes things can always be improved, and new things can be fun
Looking at WvW from many angles (yes my angles lol) I think Anet has done a pretty good job for the first year. I look at all the possible things I can do in WvW for fun
Our small guild can put together a 3-5 man roaming group and we can look for small fights, flip objectives, take towers, and on numerous occasions we have taken hills and Bay with 5 people, and even a garrison once
Sure we get run over by large groups, lose to organized 5 mans, curse the stinking perma thief who runs away.
We can join in with others to become a larger threat on the map. We can join the zerg for big fights. We can skill lag in the 300 man 3 way SM fights
At anytime we can take advantage of all the siege options attacking or defending. I can customize my toon to be a siege defense expert, maybe be more siege offense oriented.
At any time it is not real hard to roam solo and look for those one on one fights. I get cool ranks and titles (we all love ranks and titles). I get nice WvW rank abilities that make my character better at WvW with out the massive power creep that ruins so many other games.
Yes unbalanced match ups can make the PPT/zerg discouraging and yet at the same time I can still have all the above variety to do
I do think it is important to keep offering suggestions/complaints etc, but if you really can not find a way to have some fun with all that WvW can offer, then the game probably is just not for you.

The issue is, outside of the top 3 T1 servers, the balance between all the rest of the servers is out of whack to some degree or another. It goes beyond simple population. The difference between 2 equal population servers, where one server is mostly large WvW oriented guilds, and the second server is mostly PvE players who occasionally WvW is huge. Add in time zone coverages etc and really outside of the top 3 it quickly breaks down
There is no difference in mag getting beat up in the existing tiers and yaks getting stomped in your proposed 6
What needs to be worked on is incetives/fun for the mostly unbalanced match ups that will always exist.
I would like to see 2 options offered up for WXP/traits. First is the simple one. Just like normal traits I would like to see a gem store option for resetting my World rank traits. Also possible would be a badge option, ex 100 badges for trait reset on a toon
Second option I would love but understand may be technically more challenging is the option to transfer world ranks from 1 toon to another. Make this strictly a gem store purchase (800 gems as ex). I understand why world xp is not account bound but would really like the option to transfer my world ranks to another toon if I really want to play a different class.
Making it a gem store purchase only means plenty of money for Anet, and people would really need to think before they decide to transfer their ranks.
