Playing a toon of the opposite gender?

What do people think MMORPG means? Everybody knows that MMORPG = Mostly Men Online Role Playing Girls. =P

But seriously, I have 8 characters, using all the races and have a mixture of male and female characters. I get immersed into these games, but I do not require that my character represents me in any way. If I am going to RP, then I would choose male cause it is easier to RP when it you are RPing something somewhat close to yourself. But I do not RP in this game, therefore my characters do not need to represent myself in anyway.

50 gig for the whole game. Lets say the current install is 30 gig (not sure haven’t looked), that would leave a 20 gig digi-download. Even with a 100mbit/second d/l speed (note, thats bits not bytes) that’ll take a while…

… Even if you only d/l the expansion to “append” to the existing game file/files. I’m not sure it works that way though. Be interesting to find out how they plan to roll this out.

Might be quicker if there’s a DVD or BD purchase option

ETA sorry meant to quote above post

It would take 28 minutes for a 100mbit/sec line to download 20GB of data.

Suggestion for new Expansion and HoT

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: eisberg.2379

eisberg.2379

In the HoT zones, so much of what happens in those areas are group meta events, or group content in general. I suggest when you release the new Expansion, that you change all the content in HoT to not be group content at all, including the meta events. I also suggest that you change the meta events to need massively less people in order to complete.

If you leave it as it when the new expansion is out, you are leaving an area of the game that will not be enjoyable for the players in them when there are so few people playing.

So please take this into consideration.

GW2 Tax and Australians: Path of Fire.

Actually, it is Anet issue. At the moment Anet is forcing me to pay extra 10% GST, however, the Australian government has delayed the legislation until 1st July 2018. It means that Anet is breaking current Australian legislation which is prohibiting them from charging GST for any purchase less than $1000.00.

Incorrect, for all digital goods that started July 2017, it is for Imported and tangible goods that it has been postponed till July 2018. Anet, and even Steam are charging taxes now because the laws says they have to.

That feels like a punishment for doing something the game asked me to because of population. next time I will just say no.

List of Paid GW2 Influencers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: eisberg.2379

eisberg.2379

Thanks for the responses. The reason why I’d like to see some transparency with this stuff is that with the next expansion promotion, I’d like to know which content creators and/or video game websites are receiving funds for promoting this game from ArenaNet and who likes the game but isn’t being paid and just want to give the public an objective opinion as to what they think about it. I’ve noticed with MMOs it’s better to look at opinions from people that actually like MMOs than it is to look to the regular video game websites I usually frequent for reviews because it takes someone who likes the MMO genre to give the most educated opinion.

Influencers have become a real issue. They don’t have to say they are paid and a lot of times make it look like they are being unbiased which is terrible. I hate having to be this cynical, but there are some really insidious practices with game companies paying content creators to promote their games without any transparency that they are doing that. I am NOT saying ArenaNet does this. I am merely wondering IF ArenaNet does this and if so, do they provide transparency about whether or not they pay influencers, promoters, and/or content creators. Would be nice to see some above board transparency in the industry.

I don’t know about other countries, but in the US they do have to give information they are being paid. It is an FTC law for them to say if they are getting paid for the endorse through their video. They can either mention it during the video, or they can put it in as a part of the description.

A player with no subscription can use the trading post three times per day.

I stopped reading after this. No doubt the rest of your idea is more stuff about taking the same functionality way from people who already had this functionality when they bought the game. Given what this game is and as advertised, that would be nothing short of bait and switch.

The only acceptable subscription is this:

a $10 monthly subscription plan would automatically give you $10 in Gems a month.
a $15 monthly subscription plan would automatically give you $15 in Gems a month.
a $20 monthly subscription plan would automatically give you $20 in Gems a month.
a$25…… and so on.

Also your college’s IT Department are horrible. Looks like they hired people who never went to school, training, or read about how to run Information systems, stuff that people learn with in the first year of going to college for networking. They failed at doing a proper deployment of a new OS.

Since at least 6 months after the game released new players have been able to buy the game cheaper than you did, for like the last 2 years people were able to buy GW2 for like $10 on very frequent sales.

So did you also have a problem with people able to buy the core game cheaper than you have for the last 3 years? No? Then why is it an issue now?

VB, Night Meta event to extreme?

eisberg.2379

there’s a reason these things are called meta events, you don’t need to complete them every time, but when you want to they aren’t even that hard. Tangled depths (3rd map) now that is hard, i guarantee you i can map chat command any map i get into on VB before night (if they did the day chains properly) to tier 4 with 5 minutes left. Same for the basin, altough you need commanders for the basin, you really don’t for verdant brink. You haven’t made any serious effort to try and complete this, aka joining a good map, so you have no idea if this is easy or hard. No offense but don’t complain until at least you try…

Also not reaching lvl 2 is pure bull, you reach lvl 2 even when you kill only 1 or 2 of the 5 bosses, depending on wich. Even by accident most maps hit 2. (never seen one not hit 2…)

Maybe you are playing at the right times, but it is true I have never seen a map hit Night security level 2. I don’t play during the prime time, my schedule doesn’t allow for it. I have tried the LFG method, and have only found a group doing that a couple of times now during my play time, and the ones I did join the map still didn’t get past Night Security level 1.

So in short you said that Anet made the game better with these change?
- less people simply leeching
- less event that fail becauser of leecher
- need to actually use your brain to play
- Reward for doing thing in the map instead of no reward at all
- etc.
Am I wrong?

My thoughts exactly. I really like the fact you can’t tag and leave, like with the mordrem invasions and silverwastes. It advocates a selfish style of play, so it’s nicer this way.

Than go play guild missions and dungeons! the open world is for everyone, including solo players, train tag’s and even leechers. And no, it has nothing to do with anyone’s intelligence. In contrary. I hear a lot of very selfish statements in this forum, mainly posted by players who are afraid to lose their godlike status if lots of causual gamers can get the same things as they do, simply by playing the game as it was intended: by having fun exploring the map.

I’m sorry, but the selfish thing is the people who seem to think leeching is acceptable, that having other people do the work for them so they can get the same reward is the most selfish thing out there in a game.

Verdant Brink Map Completion Bug

I have the exact same issue. The map shows i’m missing one Hero Point. The actual point in game shows completed and I got the points for it, but the map did not actually complete. I’ve redone the point at least 6 times now and still nothing.

There are 2 points that are mixed up, when you completed one point, it actually gave you credit for a different point. The 2 points that are mixed up is The one all the way in the south west corner south of Treachorous Paths, and the other one is in a Pact Ship directly east of Faren’s Flyer, there is a mastery point near it as well. You are missing one of those, when you do one of those it gives you credit for the other one instead of the one you did. Go to the one that the map makes you look like you did it, cause that is the one you are missing.

Funny cause I feel like I’ve NEVER paid for a “complete” MMORPG.

The nature of MMO’s is that they are constantly evolving and adding content. If you feel like HoT is “unfinished” you need to reevaluate your expectations and look around at the industry.

Why didn’t Anet release HOT back in March then? HOT was already in alpha at that time.

because software still needs to go through Alpha and Beta testing before being released. Releasing software without doing any testing is really bad idea.

Exactly. There should have been a more thorough beta testing stage.

No amount of reasonable testing is going to catch everything with software, nobody has the money to do something like that and have a product that can sell at the right price. There isn’t anything that I can see that warrants it needing to test even longer, seems like vast majority of problems do not happen to everyone which means more then likely means it didn’t happen during testing.

Got to max tonight, lots of people got Bladed Chest box (including me yay).

Spread out and do all the Events you can (hold the camps, get them tiered up) and kill all 5 bosses and you should be fine.

I can’t do that all by myself, I have to rely on everybody else on the map to do their part, and it isn’t happening.

I think this can only be fixed by having reasonable expectations based on the number of people actively participating.

It’s like vinewrath. You won’t finish it on a random map, but every serious map is an auto finish. VB is not a difficult meta.

Can’t change maps unless it asks me to. So how does one get to a “serious” map? “Serious” maps must be very rare, cause in all of this time I have never seen it get past security level 1.

Also if a full map is needed, that alone is an unreasonable expectations, cause that means only people who play at the right prime time hours have a small chance of it actually completing, everybody else who doesn’t play at those right prime time hours have no chance.

I guess what makes this most annoying is there is a really nice reward for completing it, but it becomes artificially blocked by other players no matter how hard or effort I put into it.

So if they want to keep it the way it is now, then just move that bladed coat box to a vendor like the other pieces.

They need to scale the requirements based on the number of people actively participating, and then also have reasonable expectations. Cause yeah, I have never seen it hit level 2. It is becoming to the point of being discouraging and thinking “whats the point”, no matter how hard I work, how hard I get things completed, it all doesn’t matter in the end.

They seriously need to look into this.

I’m sure in their internal testing they felt it was ok, but I am sure everyone in their internal testing were working together since they all know each other, and had a specific testing goal to do it. But in the real world, these expectations are unreasonable.

I have never seen the Meta event of VB actually complete, I have never even seen it hit Security level 2. I feel like this is bad design and really needs to have some more balance to it. I think the expectations are to much for an open world game that relies on everybody to do the right things. That expectation is to high. I really think they either need to increase the night time timer by 3 more hours or, or make the requirements for the security levels a whole lot lower.

I hope Arenanet is watching what is going on and eventually make more appropriate requirements or increase the timer.

I dunno, it sounds like the two guys who left for Amazon got recruited out, and people in general start looking for new challenges after 3-5 years. They were working on GW2 for about what 5 years before release? It’s been 3 years since then? I think a certain level of turn-over is to be expected, even in a healthy company. Not saying I disagree, but I don’t see the sky falling, either.

Personally, I think the game’s a little too good to go offline; there’s enough people who want to play, and their system is dynamic enough, that they should be able to keep the old content alive as long as people want to play.

Yeah, people can leave even a good company for many reasons. Perhaps they want a different location, or the new job has better advancement opportunities, the person just wants a new challenge(like you said)

People want an xpac to be as big as the original game? That’s not how it works, especially in an MMO. Part of the price is future content.

Why should it not be just as big? After all it cost the same.

Future content is not part of our purchase, people that are free to play get it also. Anyway, updates and free content is commonplace in MMO’s these days, it keeps customers playing and buying store items.

Your argument would have held weight if the expansion cost half the price.

Free to play will not get any content updates, all content updates going forward require HoT to play. And yes, future content is part of our purchase.

Apparently you never played any of the GW1 expansions. Nightfall and Factions were easily as big as, if not bigger than Prophecies.

We do have that standard to compare Anets work to.

Nightfall and Factions were standalone campaigns. Not expansions. They were separate games from Guild Wars.

The only expansion for GW1, was Eye of the North. So if you want to compare HoT to something, compare it to Eye of the North.

For people who purchased Prophecies first, Nightfall and Factions function as xpacs for them, even though they are labeled as standalone. Very few people intentionally keep their Prophecies and Nightfall accounts separate. Therefore, yes, we can compare HOT to Nightfall and Factions.

Legacy of the Void is going to be standalone, but people still consider it as an xpac to sc ii.

Eye of the North has less content than Factions and Nightfall, but its launch price is lower as well, so it was all right.

Doesn’t matter what the players consider them as, they were still standalone games. You weren’t required to have Prophecies to play Factions or Nightfall. So either way you look at it, they are still standalone campaigns.

If you treated them as expansions, that’s your personal opinion. But fact is, they weren’t expansions, they were standalone games that didn’t require the original to play.

HoT requires GW2 to play it, thus making it an expansion. Just like Eye of the North required Prophecies to play it. It was an expansion. If HoT was standalone and didn’t require GW2 to play, then you could compare it to Factions or Nightfall as they are also standalone games. But since it requires GW2, it is considered an expansion. Not standalone.

Why does it matter what they are? They were games that Anet made on a scale as big as or bigger than the original and in a much shorter time frame. That’s the point.

You’re basically arguing semantics.

They also didn’t keep on adding in more content to each of those games like they are with GW2. So with Guild Wars 1, you paid $50 for what ever came in the box, and that was it (with the exception of Sorrows Furnace that was added to Prophecies), where as with HoT and Base game you paid $50 each for what there is and for all the extra content they added later on. You are looking at 2 very different methods going on here and cannot be compared.

I don’t know if it’s unfinished or not but it’s blatantly obvious the grind for elites (when the cost was 400 hp) was padding the content and that’s it.

I’ll never buy kitten expansion from Anet again. Not unless it’s the size of at least Nightfall. We got $25-30 worth of content at best.

Now I’m not saying I hate HoTs, I love playing the revenant, it’s breathed some new life back into the game for me but that doesn’t excuse how little content there actually is in the expansion.

h

They said up front for a long time this would be their smallest expansion ever as they’re setting up new features to expand on later. It’s not so much a flat content thing as feature rich. After this xpac, all the major features of the game (except maybe on or two sometimes for a real change idk Mounts cough) xpacs later will haz moar. So that should at least make you feel better about map size.

So what you’re saying is we paid more for less now? It’s all well and good if they want to set up for things they’re doing in the future but don’t charge the price of a full game for it.

I don’t have enough faith in Anet at this point to keep any of the promises they make as far as future content goes. I still remember how they first told us we’d get precursor crafting in September of 2012 and then again in the infamous “Second Half of 2013” blog post. And here it is 2 years later and we had to pay to get access to it.

Disagree, the $50 for the expansion is for all the current HoT content and for all the content related to the expansion in the future. Just like the base game of Guild Wars 2 was for everything it released with and for all the content they added prior to the expansion.

Apparently you never played any of the GW1 expansions. Nightfall and Factions were easily as big as, if not bigger than Prophecies.

We do have that standard to compare Anets work to.

Nightfall and Factions were not expansions at all. They were stand alone games, in the sense that if they wanted to at the time could have called Factions as Guild Wars 2, and Nightfall as Guild Wars 3. Also Guild Wars 1 wasn’t even an MMO, developers even said it wasn’t an MMO, it was more like diablo style but with graphical lobby system.

funny but when i bought Burning Crusade i got a ton of new armours as random world drops, several new instances, all with new armour skins and weapon skins and a massive new continent. in total there were probably around 30 new armour sets, 5 instances and 3 raids on release, oh and 2 new races.

THAT is what i expect from a £30 expansion.

And 15$ a month. Not to mention the 2 games are very different models.

the subscription fee is irrelevant, i’m talking about the initial release, not the content added over time.
initial release had tons of new armour skins, several dungeons and a massive new continent.
that is what you should expect from an expansion with a premium pricetag.

Subscription fee is far from irrelevant, it is all part of the costs to enjoy the content related to the expansion.

Did you also forget you had to continue to pay $15 a month to play for that content? The time between Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King was 22 months, so that is $330, people paid $360 for that expansion. Yeah, I would expect more from WoW if I was paying $360 for an expansion.

I just hope Anet has other ways to gauge how well the game is doing other than just these forums. The forum community is incredibly skewed and toxic.

They most likely do. But an unusual decrease in player count and sales revenue than what is expected is a good indicator for them to find out why. Forums can give them some ideas on where to look at, but I highly doubt they rely on the forums to get the consensus.

If they see a decrease in players and a decrease in sales revenue, you bet they will nerf HoT content. If the content being to hard effects their bottom line to much, it would make business sense to nerf it.

So yeah, just hope the difficult content doesn’t effect their bottom line.
