Meaning for guild influence. It used to be that if you were not a member of the same server that your guild was on that you would not contribute to guild influence. Is this still true?

The new season of Living Story started, and you missed the first 2 updates, but you can still get the third one if you log into the game right now. They have changed how they do the living story. it is only for level 80 characters is is meant to happen after you completed your personal storyline. This season of living story is done in episodes. When you log on with in 2 weeks after the episode goes live, you get the episode in your quest journal, and then you can do that episode at any time and get all the rewards you can earn just like you did it when it went live. If you miss getting an episode in your journal because you didn’t log in during that 2 week period at least once, you can buy the episode for your account on the GEM store. So for you, you would need to buy 2 episodes.

Edit: There has only been 2 episodes so far, so you only need to buy 1 episode if you want to partake it it. This is provided you log in today to get the second episode for free, since the 3rd episode starts tomorrow.

should find a way to make it work… huge console market out there or am i wrong ? … according to the last podcast from massively only 15 percent of skyrim players were pc players

The information they are using is from boxed sales only, not digital sales. Nobody has released information of how many digital sales Skyrim had. So of the Boxed sales, 15% of the boxed sales were for the PC. Digital sales for PC games have eclipsed physical sales. Total sales for Skyrim, PC version was easily 30-33% of the sales among the 3 platforms it was released on.

Season 2 Living story brought me back to Guild Wars 2, because how they are conducting the season 2 this time around. Other than expansion pack, all the other stuff listed in the original post would not have brought me back.

In the words of Vayne,

ok, the OP states Living Story won’t bring people back. I came back because of Living Story, therefore living story brought people back. And it is a fact that I came back because of living story, therefore what I state is a fact.

Guild wars quests always two levels higher ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I have been playing Guild wars 2 now for some time and am getting very frustrated with the AI leveling. I have played as a warrior, ranger and elementalist at 1-9 early levels. The problem with game is that say you are to save the children at the orphanage quest and it is set for level 6. You manage to get your player up to 5 1/2 level and then you get some upgrade like a vest or pants upgrade. This then changes the orphanage quest from level 6 to level 8. Now you are still at a 5 1/2 level and you can’t possibly hope to win the orphanage quest, while as before you could have if the level for the quest would have remained at level 6.
What the hell is wrong with the leveling AI in this game? The programmers for this game need to correct this problem or else other players who start this game will throw up their hands in total frustration.

When the quest is above your level, you are supposed to go out into the world and do other things, like do the dynamic events, craft, or just about anything else in the game. The personal story quests are not meant to be played one to another uninterrupted.

This isn’t like Elder Scrolls Oblivion, where you can finish the the whole story line as a level 1 character.

You will see them announcing an expansion soon, becasue it is literally ignorant to believe that the +280 people who are not working on the living story are working on bug fixes.

Out of the 300 employees, how many of them are people who work directly on the game? Somewhere in there there is going to to be a whole lot of people who don’t even work on the game, like HR, PR, IT, and many other roles. Just curious to find out how many developers there are actually working on the game.

The issue with builds and gear is that you can’t have people ping their build ( traits) and gear – they can ping any gear and wear other gear.
This doesn’t work because it’s not something you can check. Sure it would be great if we had this option but we don’t.

Gods I hope we don’t get a feature like that because then the elitists would make sure that noone but other elites can join their PUGs and most PUGs, from the LFG comments appear to be elitists already.

You want dungeons to be challenging, PUG with a group of newbies and show them the ropes, which doesn’t mean shout follow me and disappear down an not so obvious path.

Elitists like that don’t want a challenge, they want easy mode. If they actually wanted challenge, they would actually do what you suggested in your second paragraph.

You don’t have to compete for kills, resources or loot. If you help someone with a kill, you get the same XP as you would if you did it solo, and you get what ever drop from that mob as if you did it solo. And for resource nodes, like ore, even if someone else is there, you can mine it as well just like if he wasn’t there, and you will not be “stealing” his ore, because he will get the ore just like you were not there either.

To put it short, there is no competition for resource nodes, kills, or loot.

I would like to say thank you to Anet for how they are conducting Season 2 of the Living Story. I am very casual player, and it really go to be to much trying to balance out leveling my character and enjoying the living story content, and basically it made progressing my character through her personal story very slow, and I was basically juggling 2 different story lines. I eventually quit playing. But now I am back because of how you are conducting Season 2. Now, I can concentrate on the personal storyline, and then once I am done with that I can work on Season 2 storyline, and I’ll be able to work on achievements and rewards on a more casual basis with no time limit.

So thank you Anet, that was a very good change. I also like how you changed the wardrobe system, and believe it or not, this will actually entice me to spend money on skins in the gem store since it is no longer a 1 time use.

keep up the good work.

Why is there no controller support?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: eisberg.2379

eisberg.2379

The fact that GW2 does not have controller support honestly enrages me. The game would play so much smoother if it did, and It’s obviously possible because programs like XPadder and Pinnacle Game Profiler make it work (near) flawlessly. But we shouldn’t have to pay for third party software to play a game the way it was meant to be played. So I ask you ArenaNet, why is there no support for controllers? And would it honestly be that difficult to implement?

Since when was it meant to be played on a controller? o.O

Lanfear, i’m not trying to be rude so no need to get all snippy. We’re all still friends here chatting on the forums instead of working >_>

I agree the block/report features probably needs work. I haven’t really blocked many people besides gold sellers so i don’t have a lot of personal experience with this issue. You seem to be a magnet for trolls or something. I tend to keep to myself and my guild and rarely post in map chat outside of WvW.

Regardless, your concerns are once again about something that is not duels so i am trying my best to keep this train on it’s rails.

I wasn’t being snippy, but I can be if you’d like.

OK fine, my concerns have nothing to do with duels. They aren’t related in any way. You heard him folks. Our concerns aren’t related, they aren’t valid. Don’t warrant discussion or consideration as they aren’t related to the topic. Just like every other time this has come, we don’t agree so we don’t matter.

/vote no on open world duels

Vast majority of the harassment I have seen to myself and to others have been from open world dueling. I find it interesting that in MMOs that do not have open world dueling I have not seen nearly as much harassment of any kind as those that do have Open world dueling. You put someone on ignore, and all you did was stop yourself from seeing the crap/lies they talk about you on the general chats.

This thread….
Time and time and again you get the same answer..
GW2 is not a grind because the grindy things are OPTIONAL.
Ok, let’s see. So what do you do, as a casual, if you don’t want to get involved in those OPTIONAL stuff.
What else is here besides those?
What are those great activities here that don’t involve a grind ?

Someone make me a list.

Is it Jumping Puzzles? They’re awesome. You can finish them in 2 days.

Is it WvW? A whack-a-mole activity without any real rewards.

SPvP? An unbalanced mess with no map variation laughed at by any esport competitive gaming.

Map completion? 300 renown hearts filled with lifeless NPC’s. Hell, like 30 of those involve putting out fire with buckets. It gets boring real fast. No thanks.

World bosses? A 6 fps particle spam zergfests. Or is it running around enjoying DE? Yeah, good luck on that with the new megaserver.

Dungeons? Please!! Don’t make me laugh. Fractals? RNG masochism.

SO. What else is there besides hunting for rare skins and grindy stuff like legendaries and ascended gear?

This so called " No grind cuz is optional" doesn’t click for me.
Or maybe is it " In that asian mmo you gotta grind 1 million things to get another thing, therefore GW2 is not grindy compared to that."

Those are not answers.

You just listed the game, that tells me that this game is not for you.

This game is not a grind because it is optional grind, the stuff you listed as not fun are the things I find very enjoyable, so the stuff you listed as “grinding” is stuff that I do not do because it is optional and there is plenty of other things I enjoy.

So like I said, this game just isn’t for you, time to move on.

Yeah, nothing changed on my end either. Are you playing at a 16×10 aspect ratio? Perhaps something has changed and there is no true 16×10 aspect ratio, meaning they basically crop a 16×9 aspect ration to fit on a 16×10 picture, which would give you the cut off feet. Other games have done this as well, where a 16×9 aspect ratio gave you more view of the game where as 16×10 did not because it was not a true 16×10 aspect ratio but rather a cropped 16×9 picture to fit on a 16×10 screen.

Living story was a colossal failure, even in revenue terms.

They were getting an equivalent of 500,000+ people subscribing for $15 a month in sales revenue. That is far from being a colossal failure. In an interview article I read some time ago, interviewing various developers/publishers about subscription less MMOs, and they mentioned that they make ~$5 per person who plays their games (note that does not mean every player is paying money), so with $15 a month for 500,000 people equivalent in sales using the average would mean that ~1.5 Million people are playing this game every month ~half as many who bought the game. This game is not a colossal failure financially.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

wouldn’t that make it B2P actually?

Buying means that SOMEONE PAYED for it, so, any way you look at it, it’s still P2P.

Pay-to-play has traditionally (always?) meant to imply a subscription model. You continue to pay to continue to play. B2P simply means you buy the game to play it. Yes, you do pay money in both scenarios but there is a difference between a one-off exchange of money/goods and a subscription model.

Then, shouldn’t P2P games be called C2P2P.

Lets not make up terms when there are already well established terms for this genre (MMOS). There is F2P, P2P, and B2P, and each of these terms mean something specific. Guild Wars 2 is in the B2P (Buy to Play) area, WoW is in the P2P (Pay to Play) area, and games like SWTOR, AoC, Lord of the Rings are in the F2P (Free to Play) area.

What do you want, a broadcast in game of the patch notes?

Actually, that’s not a bad idea. A small pop up box when zoning in to the game with just a brief list of fixes (or a link to the relevant web page), or major things like “New language filter in Chat Options” or something like that, would actually work. A lot of MMORPG’s use that kind of thing to notify players of important things.

How about a frame that appears when first logging in, but before pressing the Play button that gives news about the game including the patch notes?

Its not Anets fault if the players do not check the forums for the patch updates. They knew there was a patch (hence the download) so while they are waiting for it to download they could you know actually read the patch notes? Players are humans therefor they are more than capable of going to the forums and reading the patch notes where they always been. No point in wasting resources for putting an ingame patch notes that the same people who couldnt waste the time to come to the forums will just ignore the patch notes already.

You do realize I was talking about a system that has already been in place since the day the game released? =D

But in a sub based MMORPG, they ask this question.

“How can we make the game better month by month so people dont leave?”

Sub-based mmos also like throw in a giant helping of “How can we make cancelling a subscription as annoying and inconvenient as possible so people dont leave?”.

To be honest, it still leads to quicker responses to in-game issues for the most part. For all the issues Blizzard gets for being a royal pain to deal with via subscriptions, there aren’t too many in game issues that WoW gets that don’t get rectified rather quickly. GW2 sometimes has problems and glitches persist for months and months before even being looked at.

um what? I played WoW, and there were plenty of bugs that lasted even for years. I played that game from 2005-2007, and a little in 2008, and there were plenty of bugs that stayed in the game from 2005 through 2008. They might have got them ironed out now, but they also have been working on that game for 14+ years (includes 4+ years of development)

do a bit of research and you can see the player drop since launch.. its steady and falling.

id put money on that its because of the lack of support. and ingame Responses from staff.

Last quarter their sales revenue for this game raised by 37% compared to last quarter, over through out last year they have been staying pretty steady in revenues, only 29% less in sales in 2013 than they did in 2012 (the year they sold the game). We have no numbers about the population of the game, but the sales revenue does paint a picture of having a pretty steady population.

29% is a rather large drop from one year to the next. Maybe I’m reading your post wrong?

Also I think a lot of their new revenue is from new players. GW2 is fun for about 6 months then the game is tapped. There’s very little new content right now. You can point to all the living story but that’s gone now. A couple hours of new content every two weeks isn’t going to keep your old players around.

Considering 2012 is when the game came out and sold 3+ million units that year, having a 29% drop in revenue the next year for game with no sub fee is pretty dang good. Also seems like every other successful MMO did just fine not putting out new content for many many months, even to year with little to no new content did just find in keeping their old players. WoW survived on giving content to a very very small minority of people every 6 months and nothing for the vast majority.

ME: yea thats why you put the mega server cause there is just sooooo many ppl

No matter how successful an MMO is, so many zones if not most of them become empty as the game ages and the player base is mainly at level cap, this even happened in the most successful MMO in history. Having nearly empty zones is a symptom of having segregated servers, and the reason why having segregated servers was always a bad idea. Mega-Servers is the best way to go, the advantages of it far out weigh the disadvantages.

I can see you’re confused, though I really can’t see why. They said 1-15 zones. Then feedback collecting. The initial feature patch rolled out at midnight EU time. By next morning half the maps were on megaserver. Less than 12h later. I can’t imagine they got a lot of feedback from the EU playerbase in that timeframe to encourage rolling out on half the maps in-game besides the initial 1-15. Then a week later, last night, all maps are Megaserver, with all the feedback posted in all these threads. And the official list isn’t yet updated to reflect the real state of the game https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Megaserver-Rollout-Update/

They later on changed their mind and posted about it. At first it was 1-15, then not to long before April 15th they posted they decided to start with the more empty zones instead

they should add dueling to the arena in the charr city…or better yet, in every major city, with each ahving a unique arena…………..would kinda be like ancient rome, where every city has its champions……make it so you could wager on the fight.

Dueling in arenas in the major cities is a better idea.

Yes, they’ve collected dozens of threads, hundreds of pages and thousands of posts with feedback, and they decided to continue rolling Megaserver onto all maps, without as much as an official announcement of this change. Color me impressed they’re collecting all this feedback.

What? they already said they would be rolling out the Mega Server to other zones as they continue to monitor things, they said this before the Mega Server was even rolled out, and eventually the MegaServer will in all zones.

Never had that happen in any other game with duels and toggling, so I’m not sure why that would magically happen if it were a feature in GW2.

happened to me in every MMO that had that feature with the toggle on/off. It never happens to Duelers because they are duelers so they won’t say no any where near as much as the non duelers.

I like to solo champs. I do it to test builds and just for something to do as being level 80 and have done just about everything there is to do without mindlessly grinding to the point of total boredom that I fall asleep at the keyboard.
Anyway, with the megaservers I can no longer do this. I try to solo a champ and some yahoo comes up and starts attacking it even when I ask them to stop. I ask in map chat for no interference and of coarse some players respect it and then you get the trolls that come just to interfere. This is really pi**ing me off. I have only been able to do 3 champs solo and it’s only cuz 90% of the gw2 population don’t know where they are. But if I try to do one like say the Champion Mark II YF-Gold in Malchor’s Leap somebody always interferes.
And for those of you that are going to troll this thread by saying stuff about loot or whatever: 1. I don’t care and 2. most these champs spawn within a few minutes of dieing. Yet I have not been able to solo any cuz of interference. If somebody interferes I disengage and watch them die and then laugh about it. I’m not going to rez them or help them at all.
These megaservers are causing all kings of lag and guilds have been split up during guild missions and constant dc’s etc.

How about instead of being a complete and utter jerk, you instead kill the champ with the person who comes by, and then you wait for the champ to respawn and solo the next one? Realize this is an MMO and you are doing something that is in the open world, in a game where it was meant for people to help each other out and the design philosophy was based around that idea.

Don’t be surprised with your attitude if people start to specifically make it harder for you to solo champs.

Thanks for populating my favorite map Anet!

Yes, very good change. Separating the player base in servers never made sense to me, you could have what looks like deserted maps on each server, but if there was mega servers than hardly if any maps would look deserted no matter the time of day. Separated servers need to go the way of the AOL floppy disks in your mail.

WHY ANET? My only source of income is gone. Life is not worth living anymore. But seriously, this was not even clear in the patch notes. This patch went ahead without the approval of the community. I’m sure this is devastating to everyone! How can anet change something so drastic and not ask the community how they would feel about the train being removed. This change is so drastic, it needs democracy and opinions of others.

We want the train back.

The champ train being nerfed is a symptom of the Mega Server changes, and the needing to have all champ/world bosses to be in sink no matter what instance you are in of the map.

Even if there was a vote for Mega server or no Mega Server, I have no doubt that Having a Mega server would have won.

Also customers vote with their wallet, not have some kind of voting system on what changes a developer does before they do it.

Don’t like the changes, then vote with your wallet and don’t buy anything from the Gem Shop, or just quit playing.

How dose this new trait system work?

Not sure about master and grandmaster. But as to the rest of your question. Starting at level 30 you will get 1 trait point every 5 levels.
