Introducing more gold into the economy would just make prices rise even higher, and making the “time to grind” about the same anyways, if not longer.

imo they started to make other stat combinations more desirable with Season 2 Living story content. All through my personal story I was zerker, never had any problems being a zerker, then I started season 2 and was getting my bum handed to me. I changed to knights gear for more survivability, and even soldiers gear for even the tougher times, and still change into zerker gear when the situation looks like I can run with that with little problems.

Wrappings of the Lich takes 1390 Shards of Zhaitan. At minimum it would take 6 days of running all 4 paths each day to get the full set.

Reading all this, I admit I am confused. Is the OP, saying that if I don’t buy the expansion, I can’t play in the game at all? I only have 50% of Tyria map out and slowly getting up so not ready for the expansion yet my self, and I am just confused by a lot I am reading, or that some people are assuming the worst at the start.

That is not what he is saying. Don’t worry, when the expansion releases, you can continue doing what you have been doing, whether you buy the expansion or not. Buy the expansion when you are ready to tackle that content.

lol, you should have seen the crud storm that happened on these forums 1.5 to 2 years ago when I suggested that Arenanet setup a “subscription”, where basically the player setups up a monthly subscription for what ever amount they want to come out every month automatically, and they get gems that corresponds to that amount. So if they setup a $10 subscription, they get 800 Gems every month.

So many people were against that idea and some even said they would leave the game if it was setup like that. /crazy

So if so many people are up against the idea I gave, then your idea has even less of a chance of getting any kind of support.

People have no justification to complain about the future living story needing the expansion as a requirement to play, because this is an MMO that is not charging a subscription fee. If you are at all interested in continuing to play the game, then Arenanet asking for more money from you for this expansion is not unreasonable at all. Most likely the people who are not willing to pay for the expansion were not paying customers beyond the box in the first place, so making sure they keep on getting new content more than 2 years later since release is worth next to nil for Arenanet.

Yes. That’s why guild wars 1 is available on steam and guild wars 2 is not.

Doubt it. Guild wars 1 still had a cash shop it being gems makes no difference. The issue only comes with games that have dlc but not games with subscriptions or cash stores.

I removed Steam from my PC. Even though that means I lost all the games I purchased, it was a good trade off. Why do I need to open a program, just to open another program? GW2 runs fine by itself.

Now as for “exposure”, that’s what PAX is for. People who love MMOs don’t use Steam to find the best big hit. We follow gamer mags and blogs, and get info from reputable services.

Missing a massive amount of casual gamers who don’t pay attention to any of that stuff.

3.4-3.6 mbs DOWNLOAD SPEED LOL

Oh- and did i mention it RANDOMLY goes down at least once EVERY DAY?!

I never had those problems.
Also My max download speed I pay for from my ISP is 6.2 Megabytes per Second, and I get between 5.8 to 6.2 Megabytes per second from Steam.

But none of this matters, just because someone buys the game from Steam, if available, doesn’t mean they have to play it or even download it from Steam.

Yeah, I already know they have to pay a percentage to Valve, which is why I said I know they would make less money per sale. But at the same time the exposure and increase in revenue from it can make up for it. I am sure there are a crud ton of people who do not know of any games outside of Steam, this would grab those people. They make less revenue from a boxed copy sold then they would with a Steam version sold.

They don’t have to offer the same sales on Steam when they have a sale on Guildwars2.com.

This mechanic pays for the game your playing.

Odd since I paid for the game. Try to remember this isn’t FTP.

GW1 had box sales and no cash to gold.

GW2 was to survive on gems and have no expansions now however we’re getting box sales plus gems.

Never tell me someone else’s money is paying for my playtime as I’ve paid my own way.

In Guild Wars 1, how often did they have content updates that didn’t require you to pay for them?

disabling gems -> gold conversion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: eisberg.2379

eisberg.2379

It’s not pay to win, because PvE is entirely non-competitive in GW2, and there is no winning without competition.

However, that said.

I’ve thought this since day one, no idea why the playerbase puts up with this crap. It is the exact same story as the Diablo auction house, except Blizzard players were smart enough to boycott that crap and even the game until it was removed, because it is a flat out, indisputable, con of a monetary system to run a game on.

The conversion option makes it so that players are more likely to support Anet and GW2 the less rewarding the game is, just like the debunked D3 auction house.

If it goes like the D3 auction house did, GW2 becomes better for everyone who plays for rewards, customization, exploration, and progress. When the Diablo auction house went down, every single reward in the games drop rate was increased, some by as much as 40%, and they found other honest methods of making money off the game. So it turned out better for everyone, as will the removal of the conversion system should the players ever choose to take a stand against it.

There’s a HUGE OVERSIGHT you’re missing.

d3 auctionhouse sold items for REAL CASH back to your BATTLENET ACCOUNT. You could use this to pay for games, and other merchandise etc.

THAT’s the reason it shut down. Because people were hoarding the best items and selling them for absurd amounts of cash, and people were buying them, literally turning it into a pay to win.

d3 was gated by gear, just like most dungeon crawlers were, but even more so due to the removal of skill trees from d2.

gw2 has 0 pay to win features. 0.
Do some research before you spout nonsense.

And people aren’t doing exactly that here? Precursors, mystic forge skins, T6 mats, BL weapon skins, all things only available for horrendous drop rates compared to similar items in any other game, and ALL of them horded by players to sell for exploitative prices.

It is exactly the same system, the only difference is, as I said, GW2s PvE is non-competitive, meaning you aren’t ‘winning’. But that does not change the fact that each players loss is Anets monetary gain. The less players get what they want, the more appealing converting gems to gold becomes to get it.

Did you even read his post? He said PLAYERS were getting RL MONEY back from the auction house. That doesn’t happen in GW2.

Yes I did, and as I said, the system is doing here exactly what it did there, the fact that GW2 prohibits players from trading items for real world money and D3 allowed it is entirely beside the point. The problem was that the system was causing exploitative economic conduct by players and opening a venue for exploitative monetization to the developers.

All I see is that anything not legendary or skin related is very cheap on the TP, and even sold at prices that are appropriate for the level the stuff is used for, so even a new player can buy gear throughout their leveling experience without having to grind or feel like they need to use Gems to Gold conversion. This is far different then what was happening in D3. What happened in D3 is not what is happening in GW2, far from it.

Yes, space is far too expensive. Yes, it should never have cost gems. But good luck convincing the fanboys who bought space 2 years ago that it needs to change.

Oh and evidently in a game about collecting stuff and cosmetics, you are not supposed to ‘hoard’ things. Oh unless you buy overpriced space that is. Then you are allowed…

/rollseyes

I would rather spend $10 for space as I need it, instead of paying $15 a month to have access to all the space, and if I stop paying that $15 a month I lose access to that space and the MMO.

Call me a fanboy if you want, but they are not charging us $15 a month to play a game we bought, having to pay $10 for bank space when needed is an excellent trade.

I know some people who join very focused Guilds. They have one guild that is focused solely on WvW, another guild focused only on Dungeons, another on PvP, and another on general PvE. Having focused guilds soley for 1 aspect of the game can make it easier and more efficient for those particular activities.

I think Anet would have liked to stick with just the living story and no expansions released at any point. Earnings dropping every quarter likely gave them no choice but to do the same thing that other mmos have done and release a traditional expansion. What happened to their spiel about changing the way that mmos are expanded upon yada yada yada?

How many MMO expansions have no new tier of gear and no raised level cap. Not too many from my experience.

You can change the way expansions are done and still charge for an expansion.

Again again, NcSoft has been talking about an expansion from the first year. In my opinion it was always the plan.

To add to that, Arenanet also stated they have other teams working on some big projects, and they stated that in 2012 or 2013. I to believe an expansion at some point has always been in the plans.

No, it is not. That’s a guess by a firm that has been predicting the same thing for several years now, and so far have always been wrong.

Hmm lets see:
From a Feb 2014 report

NCsoft is scheduled to launch an
expansion pack for Guild Wars 2 in the US and Europe in 2015

http://www.kdbdw.com/bbs/download/182450.pdf?attachmentId=182450

In 2013 they did make the statement about releasing the expansion that year, but that was said after the CEO of NCsoft talked about an expansion for Guild Wars 2 in an earning calls. They made no such statement in 2012. So what he have here is 2013 they talked about the expansion after the CEO of NCsoft talked about it, and then in 2014 they talked about an expansion to release in 2015. Not their fault the CEO of NCsoft gave the wrong information in 2013.

You get experience points for every wack at those nodes, so it does make it worth it to still collect from the nodes. If you sell the material, you will make some good income out of it.

He recently came back to the game, and he liked how the old dailies were, where he could complete them just by playing the game as he normally would do in a routine, and wouldn’t have to make a special trip to a different zone to complete them. He just wanted to be rewarded extra for doing what he always did, and not be rewarded for going beyond his normal routine.
