hi what do i need to run GW2 on max settings i got it running on half high and half medium setting but i would like max so what do you need for max i can give more detail if asked heres the basic for now Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.50GHz, 4GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 and windows 7 home Premium 64-bit
I have an AMD FX-6100 with 2x Radeon HD 7850 2GB each and I run the game at max setting at 1920×1080 and get about 30-40 FPS.
I’m more impressed that they haven’t had a need to even shutdown servers yet. SWTOR was already shutting down servers before this point, and they didn’t add any servers when they went Free to Play.
hi everyone,
I have just bought the game and still updating
But I saw some threads that saying the game is dying or getting boring, so I am just curious that am I too late to join the game ?If you don’t mind lots of grind and a gear treadmill, then the game will be ok for you. However, the WvW/sPvP population took a HUGE dive.
Also, there isn’t really that many different effective/viable builds per class right now, and lvl-ing to 80 without lvl-ing crafting with gold is also time-consuming comapred to gw1 (lower lvl zones are now very empty, you’ll be soloing for the most part).
Again, objectively speaking, if you’re fine with grind and a gear treadmill, you won’t regret it. That, or if you can get your hands on a lvl80 account with end-game gear.
Sheesh, I play mostly during off peak times and much of what you said is not what I am seeing at all. Crafting has been really easy, I go for every node that I see on my mini map, and have plenty of materials to level up without ever feeling like I am grinding for materials. The lower level zones always have people in it, and the majority of the events I go to have at least 6 people for the event.
It is just pure selfishness is what it is.
These old players have tons of stuff that new players will never get. And that is perfectly okay for them. But once new players get something they can’t get, that is when it is not okay. It’s selfish.
It’s okay for them to have stuff that new players cannot have, yet when new players get something they can’t have, they throw a fit. Selfishness and greed at its finest folks.
What I find funny is some of the people I see in here complaining about not getting the hat, are the same people that defended Arenanet when people were complaining about the last Event being exclusive to Prime time only. They literally told people to get over it if you missed the event because one cannot play during the prime time. So with these people, if it doesn’t effect themselves all is ok, be damned if it effect other people, but as soon as it effect themselves then it is wrong.
Apparently none of you get the point I was trying to post here, so I give up.
You said price/cost was not the issue. You said mainly the skill was the issue. The skill is available to you to get right now. So what is the point then? Please describe your point without bringing up cost/price or availability of the skill.
I have bought Gems, but I have not spent them yet, nothing on the store is needed, and even then it will only be bank/bag space and character slots that I will buy when needed, but none of that gives an advantage.
Why do people keep bringing price into this, I am talking about the items, the skill mainly.
Ok, then go buy the DDE from the Gem store for 2000 Gems, and you to can get the same skill, and items (minus pointy hat, but you got access to stuff that new players will never get to see).
New players are in fact not getting a skill that you cannot get.
Oh let’s see shall we?
-Unique Town Clothing that they can’t get (Baseball Hat, Devil Horns, Witch’s()Hat) because they were limited time only.
-Lost Shores Event: A three day event that reward players with precursors/exotics/rares, 20 slot bag, exotic trinket, armor skins, and all the experience that came with it.
-Shadow of the Mad King: A week and a half event that gave players exotics, a chest they could farm, 10 slot bags, weapon skins, Unique town clothing (limited time), and the experience that came with it.And you think it is unfair that they get a few one use items and a Wizard’s() Hat? Let’s not forget that they are starting completely fresh and you have all your work that you have accomplished, and if you bought the game during beta, you got to participate in the beta weekend events as well.
Yep. All that stuff Anet has given you over the last few months that they cannot get is nothing compared to a Wizard’s() Hat and a few consumables.
but they get it for cheaper, and i could not attend anything but a cap that i kinda dont want….. and it cost me more. they should have thankyou gifts that cant be missed easily. if they wana look like cool grandpa
How did the cap cost you more?
Mounts don’t really fit the game. The maps are not big enough for the most part to need them. Other games that have mounts create the maps with mounts in mind. This means much larger and more open maps to give you the illusion of size in the game. If you had a mount in most GW2 maps you would ride across it so fast, that many people would complain about how small the game is.
=D You are right about the size of a map thing. In WoW, the biggest reason why the Tauren starting area was much bigger then other races starting areas was because Taurens were originally supposed to get plains running, which was a big boost in speed all the time, so they made the area bigger to compensate.
I would sell my chests, but the few copper I would get for them isn’t worth the effort. Instead I will just open the chests, and then use all the junk inside all at once. Seriously, there is nothing in those chests worth buying keys for, it is all complete junk.
My gaming background:
Everquest for 1 month, but I had a life and couldn’t play that game.
Guild Wars 1 for 5 months straight when it released, and then off and on for several years after that.
World of Warcraft from January 2005 to January 2008
LOTRO for about 3 months after it released
AoC for 1 month after it released
Aion for about 2 months after it released
Tabula Rasa from open to close (November 2007 to Feb 2009) greatly miss this game
Champions Online for about 3 months after it released
Warhammer Online for about 3 months after it released
SWTOR 6 months after it released (would have quit earlier, but paid for 6 months on release day)
Do I love or hate Guild Wars 2:
I love Guild Wars 2, by far the best MMO I have played. The only complaint I have so far is the 1 time event for Lost Shores, should have never been a 1 time event. Other then that, loving this game.
wow, this reminds me of things I hear on a weekly basis for the company I work for as a satellite TV dish installer. On a weekly basis I will get at least 1 customer that feels entitled to the same pricing as new customers (new customers get a discount for 1 year). These people are basically asking for a permanent discount since the discount is always going. So even if we do give them a discount for 1 year, after that 1 year they’ll just demand the new customer pricing again.
OP, get over it, this is a very common thing that happens everywhere, it is a Black Friday sale, and you do not deserve anything, and Arenanet is doing zero wrong by you and or anybody else by doing this sale.
Or perhaps I should get with Newegg and demand they give me the coupons for Far Cry 3 and Medal of Honor for the video card I bought 2 months before that promotion started.
Scramble, welcome to real life.
2000 Gems is actually $25 worth of Gems. Should really only be 1600 Gems, since that is $20 worth of Gems, and the difference between Digital and Digital Deluxe is $20.
If someone has some constructive feedback to give, then they need to put it in the proper forum. If it is a bug issue, then they should be putting that information in the bug forums. If it is a game play issue, then they should put that in the suggestion thread. There are plenty of ways to give the feedback without it being a “farewell” thread. The majority of the farewell threads are not constructive.
Not having 1 time event is not any where near throwing out one of their manifesto promises. And the Shatterer isn’t the only one, there are plenty of other “bosses” that respawn that have no lore reason to respawn, but they do any ways.
Point one out. No, really. Find me one world boss in the game that matches the exact same profile as the Ancient Karka. Please, by all means, make my day with this. I’ll wait.
And yes it is a minority. In any other MMO, it has always been anywhere from 20-30% that play during the same 4 hour period, the other 70-80% are playing during the other 20 hours. This is the reason why having a 1 time event is a bad idea in an MMO, especially if they plan to do this every time. It will turn anyone who doesn’t play during the prime time into second class citizens, even though they pay the same amount of money.
If we’re to trust their released numbers from the betas, concurrency figures account for ~40% of their playerbase.
http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/08/28/guild-wars-2-hits-400k-concurrent-users-before-launch/
Assuming that the figure has dropped off (which it likely has), that’s still a very large portion of the playerbase online at the same time. Enough that entire servers crashed during the finale event from being overloaded.
Again, please stop throwing around that “minority” word as if it’s only 10% or less, when all data to the contrary indicates it clearly isn’t.
Arenanet is literally saying that the Prime Time people are more important then their paying customers who can’t play during the prime time, and this will have a trickle effect, in the long run, like less content being made for the game because of potential loss of revenue. It is already bad enough that the non prime time people have a hard enough time finding group, so do they really need to be punished with less content from these events just because Arenanet feels they are not important enough?
So yes, I actually do feel that 1 time events is bad for the health of the game, and I love this game.
I can guarantee you that there will be less content being made eventually whether players drop off or not, because quite frankly this event’s many massive bugs prove that ANet cannot maintain this monthly pace of patching in giant amounts of new content.
Also, how are non-prime-time people being punished by ANet? They’re not being punished. You’re mistaking punishment with reward, they are not interchangeable terms. Prime time folks are being rewarded for dedicating several hours of their time to an event that required them having to manipulate their schedules to be there. Non-prime-time players are not being punished just because they CAN’T be there.
I’ve had teachers who gave the entire class a piece of candy on specific days that most students loved to skip on, or who would give extra credit to the kids who show up. Are the kids who skipped being “punished” in any way? No, not at all, they just missed out on what amounts to free goodies.
When a band schedules a concert for a particular date and time, are people unable to make that concert being “punished” for their inability to rearrange their schedule? Nope. It might suck to miss out, but that sort of thing happens in the real world. And I doubt the band has to worry about people never buying their albums again just because some folks missed that one concert, either. Because, strangely enough, people in the real world seem a bit more grounded in reality than some of the people in here. >_>
Rewarding one group of people is NOT the same thing as punishing everyone who wasn’t part of that group. Everyone was given an opportunity, and everyone who showed up was rewarded for having to schedule themselves so that they were able to attend (except the folks who got DCed, who do deserve fair compensation for missing out). If you didn’t make it, yes I agree that it sucks, but it happens. Please be mature about it and move on, or at least be constructive in disagreeing with the company’s policy. Too many here are just whining and it’s rather disgusting in all honesty.
The one who isn’t be constructive here is you. You are actually advocating leaving out the majority of players from one of the important features of this game. And there is no real good reason to leave out the majority in an MMO. Also, you need to stop saying that saying minority means 10%, that is not even the definition of minority. And yes, 30% is minority, and yes 70% is still a very huge number to be left out for no real good reason.
I don’t understand why Arena would
- Piss off a large portion of it’s player base 3 times: Once because you had people working on a one-time event instead of fixing bugs, again because the event was when many people couldn’t do it, and a third time when the event itself was laggy and people got kicked out and couldn’t log back in
People who work on bugs are going to have a different skill set then the people who work on making new content. You don’t have graphic artists, writers, level designers, modelers, sitting around doing nothing while the programmers are fixing the bugs. No, instead have them make new content.
What about the people who worked on the new mechanics? Could they not work on class mechanics? What about people who worked on new dynamic events? Could they not fix some of the bugged events? What about the people who worked on the new landscape? Could they not fix some of the broken landscape?
The point is, with games like this there are teams that do different things. I’m sure they have teams that work on bugs. Throwing more people at the problem is not always the solution, generally it is very inefficient and just costs the company more money which takes money away from making new content. With my Job, sure we can get a task done faster if we had more then 1 person working on it, but it would not get done 3x times faster, just 2x faster because of the nature of the task. But we can get 3x the work done on different tasks if we all do different tasks.
This has been true for MMOs since the beginning, and there is a reason for it. What you want is not healthy for the game over all. It is the bigger picture that you are missing.
For me, I will only buy transmutation stones, but only at level 80, and only for gear Exotic and above. I also will buy Character slots and bag/bank slots. That is about it. I like this game so I am going to spend $10 every month for Gems whether I need them or not, to give more support for more content.

They picked the time based on the number of concurrent players.
Unless you’re attempting to suggest that 90% of the playerbase is scattered amongst the other 20-some hours of the day, it’s rather difficult to comprehend how anyone can honestly believe that only “the minority” is able to play these events if, in fact, they are picking the time of day in which the highest number of people are playing the game.
That’s not to say your statement can’t possibly be true. It’s very likely that it is. But people need to stop acting like throwing around the word “minority” is meaningful. It’s very unlikely that, if indeed only a minority played in this event, that it was 10% of players or less. More than likely it was 30%-40% of active players, which is a pretty darn good figure when you consider that there is no possible way for the devs to pick one single time that benefits everyone.
Now let me ask you this, how many people would have actually complained if Lost Shores from the get go was announced as a week long event, with an epic event that happened several times a day? Very very little, if any, chances are nobody would even bat an eye to that announcement, doubt anyone would even say “wah, it should only be 1 time event that happens in the Prime time” and certainly no one would want to quit the game over it, or spend less money over it.
There would be plenty. People have been complaining about this game since the betas, and usually for some of the dumbest reasons, to boot. This, for example, is a pretty dumb reason to complain about the game and it’s an extremely dumb reason to quit. Quitting over Ascended gear or Agony? Okay. Quitting because you couldn’t attend one big world event, on a Sunday of all days? I’m inclined to say “fine, go, and don’t let the door hit you on the way out”, because that’s really the sort of customer who isn’t going to be happy no matter how much you cater to them.
ANet can’t provide both. They can provide a world that changes with meaningful one-time events (though they really need to work on making the events actually mean something, because I don’t think one building being destroyed qualifies), or they can provide the same experience as every other MMO with hourly events. And if they’re going to do the latter, then how is that any less of a betrayal of the Manifesto’s promises for meaningful and world-changing events?
Oh, right, I forgot the Manifesto only applies if it benefits those who are complaining about broken promises.
So there are all kinds of negatives for Arenanet to do these one time events for the minority of players, but virtually nothing to lose by making the events happen so that the majority can participate in them.
Stop saying “minority” as if it means something. As pointed out above, while it’s likely that only a minority was able to play, it’s very VERY unlikely that the minority was of a statistically significant gap. More than likely, given how many people are complaining not about missing the event due to the time, but rather complaining about DC problems or the event itself, it’s very likely that there were plenty of people playing during these times.
You are literally asking for them to throw out one of their initial design promises purely because you’ve decided that the time doesn’t suit your personal tastes. And that’s fine, just stop pretending that you’re not doing that. Because you are.
Not having 1 time event is not any where near throwing out one of their manifesto promises. And the Shatterer isn’t the only one, there are plenty of other “bosses” that respawn that have no lore reason to respawn, but they do any ways.

So yes, I actually do feel that 1 time events is bad for the health of the game, and I love this game.
I am a content oriented person, gear do not matter to me all that much. Which is why I have not complained about the ascended gear.
Easy isn’t the word I would use for max stat gear availability. Max stat gear should be available by several methods, as it the current case with exotics. As long as max stat gear is available via event rewards, crafting, random drops, and/or the TP, I have no problem with it taking some effort to obtain. What I would object to is max stat gear only being available via one route, like dungeon running, or cash.
This is what I agree with. Multiple routes to get them is perfect, which is what Exotics are.
Sure.
Oh, sorry, was I supposed to say “oh no, they must run events when I’m available” so as to better suit your childish narrative?
Look, I’m normally at work, or if I’m lucky I’m heading home, at 3 PM Eastern, which is when the events were hosted. I was fortunate enough to be available for the events this time only because scheduling just so happened to work out this weekend. It’s likely I won’t be that lucky next time, or the time after that. But even if I’d missed them, I still wouldn’t be as childish and selfish as to demand that ANet run an event in such a way as to fit MY time schedule.
What bothers me the most about this is that everyone has been complaining about how Ascended items go against the game’s Manifesto (which is true, but that’s another story). And yet, they want one-time events to go away forever….even though one-time events are ALSO in that same Manifesto.
The Manifesto clearly states that the devs wanted to create a living, breathing world that changes based on massive events, and that they wanted to avoid the common MMO mentality of respawning world bosses. And yet, so many people who are raging against Ascended gear for “breaking the Manifesto” are also in this thread complaining about how one-time events should NEVER EVER EVER be done (and in many cases it’s because they themselves missed out on those events).
So it’s not okay for ANet to violate the Manifesto on the topic of gear and grinding, but you’re perfectly happy to throw out the Manifesto the instant it doesn’t suit your desired narrative when it comes to running world events? Basically, the Manifesto is only to be wielded as evidence when it personally suits you, and otherwise it’s a meaningless video that should be completely ignored?
Get a grip on reality, please. I agree that ANet must be held to task and kept to that Manifesto, but I also believe that if they’re to be taken to task for it, they should be held to ALL of its statements, and that means one-time events should stay as a matter of principle. Otherwise, we’re always going to be playing in a world where, as the Manifesto puts it:
“Everyone around you is doing the same thing you’re doing, the boss you just killed respawns ten minutes later….it doesn’t feel like I’m there.”
I, for one, prefer a world that changes and evolves, whether I’m there or not. If you don’t, hey, that’s fine. I hear it’s easier and cheaper than ever to play WoW these days, maybe you should look into that.
1- I never complained about the ascendant gear
2- I lost interest in WoW 6 years ago, just decided not to play it anymore for no particular reason
3- The Shatterer seems to be a world that boss that keeps coming around….. Making the Lost Shores event repeat several times over a week period would in no way break the manifesto
4- Arenanet can only lose if they keep on making these types of events only playable by the minority of the player base, yes the minority only play during the prime times. The Majority would eventually get annoyed, play less or not at all, and not spend any more money on the Gem Shop, or spend less money then they would.
Right now I have plans on spending $10 every month, whether I need the Gems or not, to show support for this game, but if I keep getting screwed on these events because Arenanet feel that the game time for the prime time players is more important then the majority of their player base who are also paid/paying customers, I will stop my $10 a month, and buy Gems when I actually need them, and I don’t care about boosts or cosmetic stuff, so my options are very limited on what I would buy. How many other people out there are like me?
Now let me ask you this, how many people would have actually complained if Lost Shores from the get go was announced as a week long event, with an epic event that happened several times a day? Very very little, if any, chances are nobody would even bat an eye to that announcement, doubt anyone would even say “wah, it should only be 1 time event that happens in the Prime time” and certainly no one would want to quit the game over it, or spend less money over it.
So there are all kinds of negatives for Arenanet to do these one time events for the minority of players, but virtually nothing to lose by making the events happen so that the majority can participate in them.
It’s the problem of pure democracy. Majority rules. It’s the reason any good democracy has safeguards to protect minorities. You can’t simply go with the 51%, because 49% get screwed.
It bears repeating that the point of highest average concurrency in a given week does not necessarily equal the point in the week when most people could make time to enjoy a special event. The greatest amount of people are typically online noon Pacific Time on Sunday. That doesn’t mean those same people couldn’t make another time when even more players would also be able to enjoy them.
ANet has decided that it is more important for a large number of players to get to enjoy a couple hour event instead of a larger number of players being able to enjoy a 24 hour event. Unfortunate, but there will likely never be resolution between the players who can make it on noon Pacific Time on Sundays and love the idea of an extremely limited event and the players who feel like they are getting only a portion of the game they paid for.
Except for it is not any where near 51% that are playing during prime time, it is only about 20-30%. The majority are actually being left out
I’m for One-Time-Events. It makes them special, epic somehow. Everybody have real-life things to do (well… I hope) and if I miss an event because of real-life, well too bad. It’s a GAME.
It’s like any events in real-life. You love american football and the Superbowl is your religion? Well, if you have real-life things to do at the same time, too bad for you, you will miss it. It won’t go in loops.
Oh and Lost Shore was free…
Except for if Arenanet always have the events during prime time, there will be a vast majority of players who will never see these types of events, ever. A minority actually plays during the prime time, not the majority. It is about 20-30% of the player base that actually plays during the prime time, which means that the other 70-80% don’t even get to participate. It is only prime time because you get 20-30% playing on the same 4 hour period, where as the 70-80% are playing in the other 20 hours at various times (can be averaged out to 4% playing each hour during the 20 hours of non prime time)
I’m fine with one-time events. In fact I’d like to see more of them. I know it sucks if you can’t make it, but that’s life…
For some reason I doubt you’d have the same opinion if the event started at 5am GMT on a Monday.
Only you don’t know my circumstances, and you’re wrong.
The reality is there is no perfect time for everyone to do this stuff… so the choice becomes NEVER do this stuff, or do this stuff and accept that not everyone will be able to take part.
One-time events are preferable to never seeing the world change.
It’s not like those are the only 2 options though. One time events are fine, but they can be ran at different times for different time zones. Yes this means America gets to see content first, but at least everyone gets a more reasonable chance to join in.
I’m GMT and I managed to participate in all 3 evenings, but I think anyone much further east of me really was hard done by.
These things should have been thought about and implemented in advance of being released, it’s not like this is the first MMO and this sort of thing hasn’t been seen before, other MMOs manage it better. Same in terms of being able to hand out items to players when they do rollbacks etc, been done for years in other MMO, vital to the game when you have so many rollbacks and people being cheated out of hours, but it’s all reactionary and coming soon but not soon enough.
Except that in this case, having them happen one time is the ONLY way they make sense.
Unless you have a good in-world explanation for how a lighthouse can be destroyed, re-built, and destroyed again twelve times in a day? Or how about the massive amounts of destruction that were necessary to drive the ancient karka back into his lair?
Face it, sometimes having something happen ONCE is the only way it’s going to make sense. You can rationalize it as being all about the players and maybe that’s fair to say, but you can’t possibly rationalize it from any sort of in-the-world sense. And that’s precisely why they’re doing one-time events in the first place: to make changes to the world that people can witness and say “I was there”.
You’re not always going to be present when one-time events happen in real life, I don’t know why you’d insist on always being able to show up for one-time events in a fantasy world either. What, because it’s fantasy doesn’t mean it has to be realistic? One of the few things going for this game still is its realistic and life-like world.
It’s also one of the only promises in their Manifesto that I’ve seen them sticking to: a world that changes based on the players, and STAYS changed rather than the big bad boss respawning every hour. I wouldn’t ask them to change this because I’d be asking them to do precisely what every other MMO does, and they’re already getting too similar to other MMOs for my tastes.
Soo, you would be ok if they decide to make events happen at 3 am in the morning then? right?
We feel that everyone should have the ability to contribute no matter what time of the day it is. How we’ve came to this conclusion is that no player’s time is more valuable than another. Everyone has different off peak hours for whatever reason. Players should not be punished or unable to experience and view the same content as everyone else because they play at a different time. They too are paying customers.
The above quote was taken from the WvW forums regarding “Night Capping” by Matt Witter (Game Designer, ANet). Please apply the same logic to World Events, especially if you’re giving out drops like legendary precursors. Please stop the “one-time” events tied to a specific time of day. There are lots of suggestions on this forum about how to get around it. Implement phasing on a character/account basis, let it run repeatedly for a week or a month, etc. The rest of us might not be playing during peak concurrency hours, but we’re paying customers too.
Thank you.
Yeah, what more can be said, they need to apply this to PvE as well, especially the one time events.
Anet has stated that they run these events when they see the most people on, which is typically the weekend. You can’t please everybody, you can only try and please the majority.
Except the majority don’t even play during the prime times. they set up when they have the most people on, not when the majority is on. ~20-30% of player base is on during prime times. So they are in fact not getting the majority, they are actually excluding the majority.
The better question is WHY, in a game genre with persistent worlds, 24/7 gameplay, people in time zones all over the world, people with varying schedules and play time, would you EVER have events that occur one time at specific times that works for a small number of players?
Very well said. It just goes to show how stupid it is to have 1 time events that the majority of the player base can’t even participate in.
I will excuse Arenanet this time and I hope they are getting the feedback and have the data to show that doing 1 time events is actually a bad idea, they need to make it so that the vast majority of the play base have an opportunity to be a part of it, and the only way to do that is to have it repeatable several times each day over several day period. If they continue to make these one time events only happen when ~20% of the player base can actually play, I will take that into consideration in how much more money I will spend in giving to Arenanet. Right now I am going to spend $10 a month on Gem whether I need them or not, to support Arenanet in making new content, but If it gets to the point where I can never be a part of these 1 time events because of real life, I will drop my commitment in paying then $10 a month, to only getting Gems when I actually need them. I want to support Arenanet, but I need to feel like they are supporting me as well, and doing 1 time events in the prime time only is not supporting me at all.
Didnt participate myself but it was described to me by a friend, its sounded truly awesome and its great that there are “unique” experiences that not every one has.
Keep them, it keeps me thrilled about the game and i will definitely be there next time.
I’m going to quote someone else here:
“The better question is WHY, in a game genre with persistent worlds, 24/7 gameplay, people in time zones all over the world, people with varying schedules and play time, would you EVER have events that occur one time at specific times that works for a small number of players?”Hopefully Arenanet gets enough feedback and data to show that they really need to make sure their events can include the vast majority of the player base, in other words, get rid of the one time event, have it repeatable, and have it repeatable over a matter of days.
It would lose it’s uniqueness and people who could make all of those days would get a lot of good rewards, so they’d have to dumb down rewards…..andd…..then we have another complaint thread about rewards.
Suggestion: People who want to do the event for fun…Anet could add some lore and give us an Asuran NPC who will allow you to time-travel and stop a time traveler from starting the events again such as Halloween or the Karka attack and you do the event with no or very small rewards. But if you are doing it for the rewards…not a good reason for them to make it more than one-time because there will ALWAYS be people who can’t make it. But the people who can should deserve a good experience. For those who can’t…just get over it and wait for the next one. I wish I could go to all the free events in the world and get free stuff, but I can’t. Life moves on and you make it to whatever you can make it to.
First of all, they can make the rewards the same, but only allow you to get it once, no matter how often you do it. People who pay for this game, and continue to pay for the game also deserve a good experience, and since Arenanet mentioned before they scheduled the events based on when the most people are on, that means people who can never play during the prime time, which is actually the majority of the players who can’t, have nothing to look forward to. Arenanet, if they don’t change it, will be catering to the minority for no real reason at all.
The very idea of one time events in an MMO is the worse idea ever, again will quote someone else
“The better question is WHY, in a game genre with persistent worlds, 24/7 gameplay, people in time zones all over the world, people with varying schedules and play time, would you EVER have events that occur one time at specific times that works for a small number of players?”
and MMO content should not be based on prime time play, since the majority of the player base actually doesn’t play during the prime time.
“On any MMO forum. I see this on the WoW forums as well, and that game is far from “dying”.”
Didn’t WoW lose 30% of it’s subscribers (or 3 mil of 12 mil, which is a tad less then 30%, I can’t remember which) recently?
It is also an 8 year old game, in a saturated market where there is really not much growth in the player base for MMOs. It was bound to happen at some point, just for that reason alone.
Didnt participate myself but it was described to me by a friend, its sounded truly awesome and its great that there are “unique” experiences that not every one has.
Keep them, it keeps me thrilled about the game and i will definitely be there next time.

Generally only about 20% of the player base is playing during the prime time (about a 4 hour period), where as the other 80% are playing at various other times. Literally with these one time events, they are missing a huge portion of their player base. There shouldn’t be one time events, they need to have them happen over several days and repeat several times through out each day. Arenanet shouldn’t be making content that literally a minority of their player base is actually able to participate.
Just because its a monday morning, doesnt mean the servers should be literally ghost towns, theres no excuse. Been in plenty of mmo’s where monday mornings there were PLENTY of people on.
Not even in WoW, playing on one of the most populated servers did a monday morning not feel empty
You do have the same opportunity War Siren, you are just choosing things in your life over things in the game. Yet another fallacy of reasoning. Lets follow your line of logic. What about the people who cannot play at all on Fri/Sat/Sun because they work entire weekends doing in home care or they are doctors that are on call. No matter how wide you make a window, someone will be left out. The only content that people cant be left out of is static, dynamic, forever repeated content that makes up most of the game. If you have the mindset that everyone must be able to do all of the content, you will never have fun, world changing events.
I would much rather have events I cant make sometimes that are keeping the game fresh than have a boring static world like most other MMOs do.
easy, have events that last 1 week, and have the events repeat every hour or 2. they do this, and they will get the vast majority of the players.
This post reeks of fallacies. They dont hate anyone, they monitor trends in population and place the events during times when the largest amount of people typically play. Sadly they cannot always get every single person involved in an event, but they can strive for maximum exposure. You still have a fantastic, huge, entire game out there outside of these events. The events dont impact gameplay enough for it to require exposure to the entire population.
But it does degrade the fun potential for what is actually the majority of the player base, for no real reason at all. They can have these events happen more then once, happening every hour or 2, and more then just 1 day.
Whilst I missed all of Halloween and only caught the last 2 hours of Lost Shore, I’m pretty sure they don’t “hate” weekend workers.
They have said before they simply do events when they have the highest amount of concurrent players. Which, as much as it’s a pain, makes perfect sense.
And there really isn’t any reason for them to do that way. Historically, only about 20% of a player base actually plays during the prime time, so really they are excluding 80% of their playerbase. They really need to have events happen more then 1 time, basically have it every day for a week and have it happen every hour or 2. That way everyone gets an opportunity to do the event.
I’ve heard this one before and many others like it before…
SWG NGE

SWTOR beta + release^ all games that are dead or on life support
Go ahead and try to marginalize the voices on your forum. Go ahead and even ignore them. It doesn’t change anything. This game is headed for the same fate as the ones above if they don’t clean up their act very quickly.
Every, Every MMO forums are heavily biased towards the negative. If you go by the forums for WoW, that game should have died by the end of 2004, and again in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008. 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012.
By having legendary automatically upgrade it stats with implementation of new tier gear is unfair. With the RNG and botched one time event loot of precursor, player that have legendary done earlier will now need to invest less effort for new gear and in ways gain more time and money on other stuff. This makes it unfair for most of the players without it made yet.
Legendary should have their stats upgraded with each new tier by having the players to farm the same new tier weapon and then have the players to gift the legendary and the new tier weapon for a better than new tier weapon legendary. Example a new dungeon as give A token for ascended weapon, and it takes 320 dungeon A token to get the new tier single-handed weapon, to get a better than ascended stats legendary, the player have to trade in a 320 dungeon token single-handed weapon with the legendary to Mystic forge for a new legendary that is better than the new ascended weapon.
Life is unfair, so are MMO’s, so stop crying about everything. So sick of all the whining. Don’t like it? Take a break from the game and go play something else.
i am sure u play this game for fun, i am paying for the game i play, same for everyone here. Would u go to a restaurant and pay only to be serve a smaller serving than your neighboring table? One more thing, this is not life , it a game.
But that is not what is happening at all. You do A,B,C,and D and you get the same legendary as someone who did A,B,C, and D long before you. How is that unfair. Seriously, your OP makes zero sense.
I’m a little confused. Are Legendaries getting auto leveled or is the OP wanting them to be auto leveled.
The whole OP makes zero sense. For some reason he thinks that someone doing A,B,C, and D for a legendary and then auto upgraded is unfair for the new person who does the same exact A,B,C,and D and gets the already upgraded legendary. /shrug
I’ve decided to buy 800 Gems per month whether I need them or not. I’m having super fun with the game, and have no problem giving them $10 per month to show my support.
unfortunately just like every other MMO forums out there, positive threads get largely ignored.
Is it just me, or does the OP make zero sense at all?
If it takes A,B,C, and D to get Legendary (Item), and it gets upgraded automatically later on. Then a new person comes in and wants the same legendary, so he does the same A,B,C,and D, and his legendary is already the same version of the person who’s legendary was auto upgraded, how exactly is that unfair?
Holy Cow, I didn’t even know that players were being boosted up to level 80 for the event. I asked in game if the event was for everyone, or just for higher level players, and everybody, which was a dozen or so, said that it was for level 80s, so I didn’t even bother with the event since my character was so low level. I could have done this event the whole time
Don’t care about the reward, would have been fun to be a part of the event though.
I can’t fraken concentrate on just 1 character, I love all my characters and want to play them all. This game is so much fun, and all the classes are so much fun to play that it is hard to concentrate on just 1 character. The only other game that had this problem was Guild Wars 1.
So I did this event for 2 hours around there. Got to the end part, the Ancient Karka is rolling down the ramp, Im following the zerg.
Game crashes, send a report to Arenanet.
Log back in and its dead and I didn’t get any credit for it.
Arenanet already announced that people like you will get your reward, but it will take some work on their part and will not happen right away.
orrrrr, just realize that as long as you passed the dungeon in a reasonable amount of time, that it doesn’t matter. Really, does it matter if you save 5 minutes in a dungeon if someone has more damage because of using a different stat other then MF.
It is just a game, don’t take it so seriously, min/maxing is not needed. Having 1 less stat that adds 5 minutes is negligible.
Just wear some MF gear, it will cause very little difference in the dungeon other then some better rewards.
Wearing MF gear at Lupicus means you will probably die, and if someone ress you it’s good chance for wipe, so it adds wipes there, not “5 min more”. Your reply?
In my experience that is not true. You don’t even need exotic gear to get passed him, though it is recommended. Having about 14000 health is really the most important thing, and that can be achieved all the while still using some MF gear. Figuring out to pass the different phases, having 14K+ HP, and being skilled at your character is the most important, and all that can be achieved while still having some MF gear on.

Look at every MMO forum out there. If you go by forums alone, you would think that there is literally no good MMO out there, that they are all terrible. Yet there are millions upon millions upon millions of MMO players out there, playing terrible MMOs.
Forums are never a good indicator on how good or bad a game is, the numbers are far to skewed towards the negative side, and there is evidence of this based on how every MMO forum out there is skewed towards the negative, yet the MMO industry has several millions of players playing.

On population decline, I have found http://beta.xfire.com/games/gw2 to be a fairly decent indicator of a game’s health. GW2 has been on a steady, linear decline from #1 since launch, and the recent gear-treadmill patch appears to have only bumped the numbers up a few percent at best (weekends always tend to spike anyway).
Other info comes from guildwars2guru forums – a poll on ascended items (http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/74916-ascended-items/ ) shows 45% against, 32% for.
Time will be the true judge though, but something tells me they have made a huge mistake turning the game into a gear treadmill.
Since after WoW, MMOs now start very top heavy and then decline over time. The MMO industry is saturated, really no increase in consumer base.
Hardly a gear treadmill, the difference in power is extremely small, literally negligible. People are turning a mole hill into a planet sized comet -.-
