Mega Boss loot changes

Looks like a good compromise that doesn’t kill guesting. Looks like Arenanet listened to the more reasonable players who stated on this forum that Guesting wasn’t the problem, but that it was the change in Loot that was the problem.

So what happened to this?

Their mobility app is on hold at this time. They moved the team working on that to work on making fixes for the game. That was the right decision to make. So it is still on their list of things to do, but there are far more important things to do first.

eisberg.2379

If you choose to skip a few dailies then you have no right to complain about not getting laurels on those days since rewards are based on time/effort invested as is the standard for reward for ALL mainstream online MMOs.

It would be unfair to those that actually put time in to get their laurels on those days for you to get any special consideration.

Time and effort you say? I play 24 hours per week, but only on 3 days per week, I get 3 laurels per week. Some guildies of mine only play 1-2 hours a day for 7 days a week, and they get 7 laurels.

I’m sorry, but getting laurels has nothing to do with time, it is just logging in every day play for 1 hour and get the reward.

Dailies were a bad idea, should have been a weekly with 7 tiers, where each tier gives you the same reward as a daily. This way if you play for 7 days 1-2 hours per day you can get the weekly done and get the 7 laurels, and if you play 3 days 8 hours per day, you can still get the 7 laurels.

IP Banning it not a good idea. Most people do not have static addresses, so banning IP can make it so the person who got IP banned can get back on when they get a new IP, and someone else will find themselves banned because they just so happen to get the banned IP.

Anet should Ban, perma and IP (NOT just punish) those who steal.

In the way he worded his post, it is obvious he is asking because it is something that he is actually considering doing. He could have asked the question in a way that doesn’t look like he was planning on doing it.

At the moment, I hate guesters and wish they’d die in a fire. Because of guesters, I now spend most dragon events sitting in an overflow with my thumb up my kitten

It looks like guesting is the new botting. It’s far easier, far more profitable, and won’t get your account banned. Win win, unless you’re a poor schmuck like me who just wants to do dragon events on his own server.

Anet, if you don’t want to fix guesting at dragon events, then change guesting so that there is a dedicated guest server where anyone who wants to play with a friend can all go to the same server and leave ours alone.

Thank you.

again you are assuming that it is guesting that is causing your problem. Guests or not, you will have to show up really early because you have to beat other people on your server, otherwise you will be put in overflow anyways.

Also, the point for guesting is to help people who also want to do events but may not have enough people around one their server, but there may be enough on another server.

Come up with a different solution that doesn’t break guesting. It is guesting that is not causing the problem considering that prior to the last patch nobody was complaining about Guesting like they do now. So what changed in the last patch? Guesting sure wasn’t introduced in the last patch.

You have no proof that most guests are exploiters, let alone that guesting is the reason for the problem in the first place.

The problem didn’t exist when guesting was implemented…. so it is something else that caused the problem. More then likely, it is everyone and their dog on your server is going to these places because the loot has been changed in the last patch, and you will still need to show up 1 hour before in order to get in and not be kicked to the overflow.

Buy the game from Arenanet online, and you get emailed an game code. Give that code to who ever and they create an account for the game and start playing.

Why isn't karma account bound?

Posted by: eisberg.2379

eisberg.2379

No. I hate this account bound currency. Character bound currency is the best way to go, because then all my characters can earn the different currency’s and get the rewards at approximately the same speed. Take Laurels for instance, It will take years for all my character to get the rewards from the laurels, since it is only 1 laurel per day per account. If the Laurels were character bound instead, then they could have made it so that each character can earn 1 laurel per day.

This account bound currency is very much anti-multi character.

You must have looked up different types of legendary and exotic weapons (like sword to greatsword) or something, because if you look at two of the same weapon side by side (like kudzu and the Pearl Stinger) exotic and the legendary have the same stats and strength.

I fully agree with the OP. I have to say that I find these people highly annoying and am at the point where I feel these kinds of people should be treated along the same lines as bots.

The only solution I really agree with is to downright deny the guesters a chest after finishing an event on a server which is NOT their home server. This means people who actually use guesting for what it’s meant for can still enjoy the system.

Anet – make the fix, you know you should….

Considering that Guesting does not rely on having friends on the server you want to join on, like what was talked about before the release the game, tells me that guesting is not meant for “just” to play with friends.

Easier fix to the exploit is to fix the 1 chest per character, instead of 1 chest per server per character.

Notice how the Legendary and exotic matches the numbers he stated. What he doesn’t realize is that site does not show all the +stats on the exotics, so no +power modifier to show what the strength of the weapon would be, where as they show the +stats on the Legendary. So on that site you see the legendary Strength which includes the +power modifier, which is the base damage of 904-1000 + you add in the +98 power, which gives you 980-1083.

It is just gw2db that is not showing the most accurate number. But the official wiki does show the accurate numbers.

Lack of trinity makes this game boring I think

People aren’t forced to co operate and work together or strategize like in other mmo’s that we’ve all played in the past.

Good luck doing AC path 2 or CoF path 2 final bosses with no cooperation or strategy. I’m under the impression that anyone who says that you aren’t forced to work together or strategize has never stepped foot into a dungeon.

They are probably basing it off of the dynamic events through out the game, thinking that the dynamic events are often done with many people, so not requiring the trinity is shallow. What these people do not realize is that the dynamic events in this game are a replacement for traditional quests in other MMOs, and traditional quests in other MMOs are designed not to need a trinity to complete, in fact they are designed to be done solo (except for group quests which majority of the time don’t need a trinity either)

In this game, you enter dungeons and in a pug, and if everyone just does their own thing without any regard to anyone else, if they complete dungeon, they were probably more lucky then anything else.

Honestly, the dungeons in this game are more challenging for pugs then any dungeon in any other MMO. Trinity makes dungeons so much easier for pugs to do, because all they have to do is play out their script and they are good to go, not so much in GW2, eveyone actually had to pay attention what everybody else is doing.

What is legendary in MMO?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: eisberg.2379

eisberg.2379

Changing to make it so it is an actual challenge to get I am on board with. But making it so only 1 person can get it is a very bad idea. This is an MMO with many players playing, playing at different times, different length of times, and frequency, and would artificially lock out content for everyone. If someone wants to take on the challenge and succeed then they deserve to have that legendary reward, and not just because they were the first ones to do it.

Having it for 1 person only takes the “special snowflake” feeling way to far in something that is a game. People do not need, nor does it any good for a game over all, to feel that much uniqueness. There is no reason for it, and it provides no benefit to the game.

Besides, Home Server is just for WvWvW, in PvE home server doesn’t matter, and everyone should have just as much right to play on a server as much as anybody else.

nope -1
There is no proof whatsoever that your overflow servers at events are due to guesting any moreso than they are due to high home server population.

Guests or not, if you get enough people in one place, an overflow is created.

Your kidding right, ok look Guesting is not the 100% problem here but it does lend a huge % to the overwhelming problem in due part to people exploiting the One chest a day. If players that were guesting could not loot a dragon chest on a server that was not their home server than I promise you a majority of the lag issue would decrease, not saying it would go away but it would decrease. To sit there and say that Guest have no impact on Overflow or lag for the events makes me believe two things..

  • Your a person that guest to exploit the one chest a day rule
  • Not really thinking about things logically

Yes there has been a larger influx of players to dragon events from the Home server it self, but when I do Sunless and someone ask who here is a guest and my screen spams something of the nature of, " ME I am a guest" leads me to believe that at least 40% of people at dragon events are there abusing the One Dragon chest rule. Now my numbers may not be accurate, which in fact it is probably more than 40% as there is a Youtube video of a guild that takes 47 people and guest on X server and runs the dragon events. Just saying you remove that ability at the least your remove 40% of the lag that is a huge step in helping correct the problem with Over flow and Lag issues

So what about the people who need to guest in order to be able to actually participate and be rewarded for those events? Perhaps on their homeworld server there isn’t enough people, or happens at times they are not playing. Guesting helps these people out.

I think they should make guesting work as it did at the start. You invited your friends into a group, then chose a location, Say Queensdale, you all go to the same location, but on different servers, and then hit “Join in Map” (or what ever it said)

You can play with your friends, but only with your friends, you can’t exploit World event chests as easily..

Not everyone has friends on other servers, in fact all my friends are on the same server. But I play at different times of the day, and there are servers that are better suited for a particular play time then others.

Why prevent the feature from being used the way it was intended to be used for when the issue could be resolved in other ways? Surely, when things such as achievements are account based, it would be possible the change the event chests to only spawn once per account, instead of once per account in that specific instance. I for one use the guesting as a way of playing with friends on different servers, and would hate to see it gone because of something as silly as this.

Agreed. Also, some people like me have odd playing schedules, where no 1 server is the best for all playing times So learning what servers are the best for what ever time I am playing has been a major help in being able to complete things in this game.

As far as I can tell home server is nothing more for then WvWvW stuff, for PvE stuff homeworld doesn’t matter at all, and everyone has the right to be on what ever server they are playing on irregardless of WvWvW home server.

actually it doesn’t mean 1 out of 100 attempts if there is a 1% chance. It means that when you put those daggers into the Mystic toilet, it creates a table of 100 spots, with 1 spot being the Precursor, and then a roll happens and if that roll happens to be the same number where the precursor is, then you get it. When you try again, that table gets clearned, rebuilt with the precursor being placed somewhere else on that table, and the roll happens again.

This is why someone can go through 1000 attempts and never see it.

Yeah, my game time is on Monday and Tuesday, usually during the non prime time hours, sometimes an hour or so during the primetime. But yeah, even during the non prime time I see people all the time in the leveling zones.

I got to say though, playing during the non prime time is actually really interesting, Dynamic events actually have a chance to fail, and seeing what comes afterwards has been a lot of fun. When the game first released I was able to play more during the prime time, so all events were always being complete with a success. Now I am going through those same zones again, and seeing stuff that is different because things actually have a chance to fail. Have been a lot of fun. But I still see plenty of people around that I am hardly ever by my self in an event, just there are times there are just not enough people for an event to succeed.

I know how to fix this.

Everyone log out of the forums and go play.

There, problem solved, we just increased the server populations.

In all seriousness, I still say it’s likely there are lots of other factors. That there’s no subscription fee means people can come and go if life interrupts (school, family, work) and not have to push time in. There’s also people who just log in to blow through new content as it’s put out because they don’t have time to do it slowly

Some of my guildies actually have very real time constraints on their computers. One for instance plays at an internet cafe in Asia, one’s computer is time-controlled by his/her dad, and one often goes “gtg, mom” before immediately logging off. I myself get on usually around after 9 or 10 PM (PST), and unless I’m running dungeons or Fractals with my guild, or am otherwise occupied by something (like a new event), I get off around 12 AM. What? I can’t stay up the way I used to be able to. =_=

As for getting off the forums to play, one interesting thing I’ve noticed (anecdotal, I know) is that of the people I’ve met and talked to in-game, not that many visit the forums (or know/care about them).

:|

Shrug

This pretty much illustrates enough about the varied types of people playing. They still play, just not as much as some people. I know at least two people who work on odd shifts who wind up playing at times most other people are at school/work/sleeping. I’ve actually had a job where between 2pm and 12pm I wasn’t going to get near the computer if I was working that day. And another job where I was just too plain tired to actually log on if I worked.

Players come in all types of time availability. Just cause you don’t see them doesn’t mean they aren’t playing.

Yup

I work 4 day weeks, that are upwards of 13-16 hours per day, I don’t play on those days. That leaves 3 days, but I go to school on one of those days from 9am to 9pm, and I do not play on that day either typically. the other 2 days are spent between school work, spending time with my wife and son, doing what is needed around or for my home, and playing PC games.

I would say make the Story mode range range from 1-10 players, and make explore mode range from 5-10 players. Story mode is actually telling a story that is a part of the main story happening in the game, so I feel it would be important to let everyone have access to that content whether they can find a group or not for it. Explore mode seems to not have much to do with the story line, take AC for instance, it is basically dealing with the consequences of the Story Mode, but it is not directly a part of the main story of the game like the Story mode is.

And chances are that one would encounter a zerg rather than a duel style one on one. Plus open world pvp has a totally different flavor from what we have in WwW. It is more like you do whatever you do in game but there is also that tension of encountering a hostile player which elevates it to a different dimension. To think of it it is exactly what makes this great game blunt and boring. There is no excitement. Dragon slaying is just so meh, give me players to grief and its totally different game.
And even if we don’t have hostile races so what? make them. That whole Orrian thing, just turn whoever wishes into Orrians and there you go, and I bet there will be a lot of ppl willing to race change or turn into risen something or the other.
We badly need world pvp as well as mounts and other good things that WoW has.

This is not the game you are looking for…
Seriously, go play WoW or many of it’s clones if they have more of what you want. Nor every game needs to have everything that WoW has.

How many sales did Rift, TERA, or even SWTOR have in that same period? Lemme answer that for you: none. They saw no reason to devalue their product when it was still selling just fine at its original market price.

.

6 months after Rift released, they dropped their price for Standard Edition to $4.99 on the Rift Website. SWTOR dropped to $15 ~ 6 Months after release then went free to play less then a year after release. Tera Online dropped its price to $24.99 (half the price) in just after 1 month after release, and went free to play less then a year after release. Plus Rift has been doing sales on Subscriptions very very frequently since shortly after they released, I still get emails from them and I see these sales coming up all the time.

And all 3 of those game pretty well tanked. Not sure about Rift but SWTOR went F2P and so did Tera so if you are comparing this game to those, it is not a good sign for this game….

But as a person that played Tera since beta, that games biggest problem was enchanting(which was RNG based and unforgiving like the MF) and a pretty crappy community with people who thought they were elitists in a game that didn’t even have large scale raid content. So i think those 2 things really drove alot of people away along with bad word of mouth about those 2 things. GW2 has 1 thing on Tera tho, they do got a pretty good community.

It wasn’t me that was comparing them. I was making a statement based on the quote I had in my post. he stated that SWTOR, Rift, and Tera never had any sales in the same time frame since their release, so I guess he was technically right, because a sale is a temporary price drop with SWTOR, Rift, and Tera never did, instead they just dropped their prices in 1-6 months after release that never went back up.

6 months after Rift released, they dropped their price for Standard Edition to $4.99 on the Rift Website, and stayed like they till Expansion released. SWTOR dropped to $15 ~ 6 Months after release, and never went back up then went free to play less then a year after release. Tera Online dropped its price to $24.99 (half the price) in just after 1 month after release, and kept on getting cheaper and went free to play less then a year after release. Plus Rift has been doing sales on Subscriptions very very frequently since shortly after they released, I still get emails from them and I see these sales coming up all the time.

So you are right, they didn’t have sales, they just dropped the price instead of dropping the price temporarily for 4 days like Guild Wars 2 this month.
