Threads like this makes me happy that I am not someone who cares about being a special snowflake in a game, it makes playing these types of games so much more enjoyable when you don’t worry about what other people have and whether you feel like a special snowflake or not.
20% is still pretty high, but I cannot c how much of a crappy luck to have gotten only 1 exotic after so many attempts.
In WoW there was a quest where you had to kill yetis till one of them dropped a staff belonging to a dead wizard. In WoWhead it was stated the chance of it dropping was something like 30% chance, I ended up killing 437 yetis before that thing finally dropped for me, I saw several other people coming in and getting the staff to drop during my time, but it took 437 kills to get something that had a 30% chance to drop. I just got unlucky.
better get that checked out.
lol, I don’t even know if that quest even exists anymore, I have heard that some expansion changed all the level 1-60 areas
besides, what is there to check out? I had 436 kills that rolled the 1 of the 70 times it could fail, instead of rolling 1 of the 30 times it could drop. The positive side is I got a crap ton of leather since my character was a skinner =D

To make it more clear I just used a random number generator using the number from 1 to 100, and counted each time I got a number that ended with a 2 or a 7 (included the single digits as well) so that is 20% of the numbers. I did this 100 times, a number ended with a 2 or a 7 only came up 9 times. Does this mean I only had a 9% chance each time I pressed the generator button to get a number with a 2 or a 7? Nope, I still had a 20% chance of the generator showing me a number that ended with a 2 or a 7.
from all the reply, it seems like the mystic toilet is broken, and the rate is 2% instead of 20%.
Each time you use the Mystic forge, you have a 20% chance of success, which means 80% chance of failure. Now each time the probability is calculated and is independent of your other times that you tried, but you always have a 20% chance of success independent of your other tries. It it very possible to go through 1000 tries and never get a success, but you still had a 20% chance every time to get a success, you just got unlucky and hit the 80% failure every time.
I highly doubt the Mystic forge is broken, you just do not understand probabilities and how they work. having a 20% chance does not equal to 1 out of 5 times you are guaranteed a success, or even 20 out of 100 times.
Yup, Arenanet really needs to separate the PvE and the PvP achievements in this game. There is a PvP Monthly, and a PvE/PvP monthy, a PvE Daily and PvP Daily, but there is no PvE Monthly. Also agreed, WvWvW should not count towards map completion, it isn’t even on the map, and map exploration is a PvE thing, not a PvP thing.
I would not be opposed to Raids as long as it is not exclusive content for the raid. If the raid must have a 5 man version of the same raid, must also give the same rewards with the exception of some title
There is a PvE daily achievement, PvP daily, PvP Monthly, but there is no PvE Monthly. Currently the Monthly Achievement includes PvP requirement. I feel that it would be best to take out the PvP requirement in the Monthly and replace it with a PvE requirement, since there is already a PvP Monthly. Not everyone likes to do PvP, nor find it any fun at all. It would be great if the PvE players had a monthly achievement they to can play for and get rewarded for every month, just like the PvP players do.
I’m bothered by the fact that there is already a PvP monthly, yet no PvE monthly. Since I do not like doing PvP, I am already out of luck in getting the Monthly achievement since it always includes PvP achievement. They really need to take out the PvP requirement in the Monthly achievement.
I will say yes, as long it is more zones to explore and storylines, more levels would be fantastic as well.
Did anyone else forsee the white knight brigade on this thread?
Anyway, OP, the game not having tanks, healers, dps is a big factor in why it’s only sold 2m copies. (probably more than half of those quit)
So if they want to see their game fail, let them. Why let it bother you?
2 Million copies in the first couple of weeks since launch. We do not have any numbers for after that.
Also, no Trinity is one of the reasons why I bought the game.
Because it hasn’t gone past 2m sales. Also, no trinity is why millions of people didn’t buy this game.
Got any proof of that? You are the one stating a fact, you better have proof to back it up.

The trinity in other mmos takes absolutely zero skill. So long as you know what you have to do and when and your gear is up to par, you cannot fail. You may as well play DDR on your keyboard.
I find this statement funny. Anyone who makes this remark clearly has zero experience in true endgame content in other MMOs. Have you ever killed Algalon the Observer? Maybe Akylios? How about any boss from Final Fantasy 11? I would wager any player who says the trinity takes zero skill probably played WoW to level thirty and quit.
The most basic of endgame encounters in any other MMO you can mention put GW2 to shame in terms of challenge and skill requirement. This isn’t an opinion, it’s a fact.
I raided in WoW from Vanilla through Lich King, completing all the raids, including the Hard mode ones if apply. I have found that the 5 man dungeons in GW2 to actually be more of a challenge each and every time, then any raid in WoW. Why is this? Because once you got the strategy down with a WoW raid, you would do the same thing over and over and over again, nothing ever changed. In GW2 5 man dungeons, depending on what classes are in my group, and their builds, what we had to do changed every time, having to come up with new strategies every time, lots being changed on the go.
@skotie,
Let me try it like this… (I’m gonna ignore a whole lotta variables, but you’ll get it)
Let’s say a dungeon champ has 500,000 hit points. And the party looks like this:
1 – 5000 DPS
2 – 7500 DPS
3 – 5000 DPS
4 – 5000 DPS
5 – 5000 DPSThe party does 27,500 DPS. It will take that party around 18-19 seconds to kill the champ. And everyone will get the same chance at reward EVEN THOUGH player 2 did more damage than anyone else in the group. In other words, unequal effort but equal chance at reward. In this scenario, what motivation does player 2 really have to put forth that extra effort be it from better skill, all exotic equipment, whatever?
Now, let’s take the same boss, but put player 2 in MF gear reducing his damage by a third to 5000, the same as everyone else. This takes the party’s DPS to 25,000, and it will now take the party 20 seconds to kill the champ. In this case, player 2’s extra skill or better equipment allowed him/her to downgrade their stats in order to earn extra rewards for that extra that they bring to a group, and it had a negligible effect on the party’s success because whatever extra time is going to be a fairly small fraction of 24 hours.
That’s the point I’ve been trying to make. Extra effort in this game goes unrewarded UNLESS you as a player take steps to change it. That extra effort consists of doing well-executed speed runs or high level fractals or SELF-NERFING VIA MAGIC GEAR. At that point, you do actually get rewarded for your extra effort.
And on the subject of leeching, you don’t have to see someone’s gear to know they aren’t pulling their weight. They’ll be dead. They’ll be afk during fights. They’ll be sitting in the corner just firing their autoattack. None of these things are hard to spot, and none of them require magic find armor to matter.
Heck, if you want to get down to the nitty gritty, you’ll know they’re lower level than the rest of the group. Of course, in that case of ‘not pulling your weight’ nobody on either side of the argument seems to care. Most people are perfectly willing to accept suboptimum efficiency to help lower level characters level up or to teach new players the tricks to dungeons.
Really? Doing more DPS because of higher stats on gear means they doing more work in the dungeon? /facepalm. To put it simply, lets say that all 5 people are the same class, press the same buttons at the same time, you think that Player 2 is doing more work, even though everyone else is doing the same exact button pressing as he is?
MMO developers need to start learning that having group quests/events in the world in the leveling up zones is a bad idea, it doesn’t take long for those quests/events to go unused.
meh, what I read in the OP is that him and his groups still complete the dungeons. As long as it is fun and we complete the dungeons, I couldn’t give a rats butt what they are wearing.
I have been playing since the release of the game, I have logged in 72 hours. Between full time work, full time school, wife and my 3 year old son, I get about 4 hours per week to play computer games, which I use to play GW2, about 2 hours each on Sundays and Mondays.
Because Leveling is the best part of this game. Leveling is the best part of any MMO.
Doesn’t matter what is out there, but that name would be copyright infringement, and I almost guarantee that is the reason for the name change.
Having gated content was a horrible horrible idea in the first place, and this change just proves it.
Sure it works out great for those who stayed with the curve, but new people will have an extremely hard time finding groups for the Fractals because they are in lower level fractals.
You are supposed to do Dynamic events as well. Pay attention to what is going on around you. Also when a dynamic event ends, do not just run off immidiatly, often time there will be another event that will start up at or near the area really soon. Also, collect resources, they give a lot of XP, do a 100% zone exploration (all waypoints, vistas, hearts quests, points of interest)
ah, that is cool.
I’m surprised people haven’t come in here stating “No, it ruins community” -.- Cause that seems to be the defacto answer to anything the helps people actually be able to play with other people.

Which game is doing that?
To the people who think i’m just mad because i worked for mine, i’m not.
(i don’t have one yet, but soon)It just disturbs me, that you can just buy them with real money.
The bigger problem is, that no one will get the gold through gem->gold, almost every Legendary buyer who “bought it from real money” used gold sellers
Or they used exploits
I see way too much people running around with legendaries, some even with multiple legendaries, to believe that everyone earned it from playing the tp.
most of them either bought gold from 3rd party or got it from exploitsSo, in summary again why i ask for making them account-/soulbound on aquire:
- You should need to earn them, even when it’s grind. You don’t need them necessary and you shouldn’t be able to buy them with real money
- People get the gold (most likely) from goldsellers or from exploits, i could bet most of them did not play the TP for a few thousends goldThey were intended to be special and not something everyone can buy.
They were meant to say to others, that the owner did invest much time to craft one.
Not to get people to buy them with real money or even worse giving their money to 3rd party sellers
You got any proof that almost all used Gold selling sights, or used Exploits? This is the premise of your argument here, so you better have proof, and not just a “Gut feeling” or" well I know a guy" or “I know a guy that knows a guy”
Also, what makes you think the intention wasn’t for people to buy the Legendaries? For the fact they can be sold on the TP, tells me their (Anet) intention was for Legendaries to be sellable on the TP.
I’d say that Legendaries are exactly what Anet intended them to be, you just so happen to disagree with it.

If you are calling this the best MMO with only 4 weeks of playing it, you are delusional, this game is nothing new, its Warhammer+Diablo sugar coated with nice graphics, WoW is and forever will be the best MMO in the market, 8 years and running baby!
What makes WoW the best? Certainly 8 years can’t have anything to do with it. Ultima Online has been online now for 16 years. Everquest has been alive now for over 13 years.
Forever is a long time. WoW will be forgotten some day.
Yet none of those retained the playerbase of WoW. Not to mention made a consistent millions of active players pay $15/m for it.
With that logic, Mcdonalds has the best Burgers on the market -.-
Got to agree really is the best MMO on the market. I have been playing MMOs since Meridian 59 released, and have watched the evolution of MMOs since then. Guild Wars 2 really beats all of them.
Play on 600×800 resolution. Enjoy.
lol
Is this even an option for anything released in the last 10 years?
That option has never been in any game, ever in history -.-
I dont get why the hate for automated lfg…
Automated lfg >> map chat clogged with lfg
automated lfg lets people find group while anywhere so LA not perpetually clogged to overflow
automated lfg does not prevent friends from grouping on their own or forming “leet” teams (rolls eyes).
Poor boi.
A simple lfg board would do the trick without putting you into groups of people you dislike, or groups of 4 people that just need someone to kick right before the kill.
Automation changes dungeons into chores with annoying people you better not talk to cause it might risk losing teh phat lootz.
Automated would not stop you from grouping with people that you do like, since well you already know them. Also, I have never seen an automated system that would put you in groups with people you have on ignore. But if you are spamming chat for a group. Plus, about 90% of the groups I join are full of people I do not know anyways, so having it automated would be no different, I would still be grouped with people I do not know, but at least I didn’t need to stand around in Lions Arch for a massive amount of time looking for that group full of people I do not know.
IF you are spamming chat for a group, then chances are you are going to group with a bunch of people you do not know anyways, otherwise you would have just used your guild/friends list to create the group. You don’t spam LFG in chat channels looking for people you already know, you are looking for people you actually don’t know, otherwise you would have just asked people on your lists anyways.
Received as rewards, but never as a drop. At this point I really do not care if I open a chest or not, everything in it is useless anyways, just fluff items.
I think what they are planning is better personally……..
Instead of having to FIND a group you will be able to go with almost anyone. That’s how it should have been in the first place.
Can someone link what Arenanet’s plan are for a LFG tool?
Just checked, the Inquest in that area are on a shorter respawn timer (30-60s) but there’s nothing that respawns in 10s. I checked all of the troll spawns in Hezran Outcrops, and they’re using the 95-120s respawn timer, so my above comment applies. (Could another player have run through and killed them before you got there, so they respawned after you go there? Could trolls in a different area have been killed, so when they respawned and randomly picked a new position, they ended up appearing near you?) I couldn’t find anything that respawns in 10-30s, and nothing forces them to respawn.
In Kessex hills the under water area where the Sea Witch group event happens, the mobs seem to respawn way to fast in and around that cave the Sea Witch is in. Literally feels like it takes a big raid to take her down because of the respawn timers seem extremely to fast.
no issues on my desktop
We have a choice.
I said it.
You say having MF is greedy and not cool, but I think trying to force players who want MF to do away with and play the game you want it is not cool and selfish.
This, I agree with.
If Tokens were available on the TP, the price of exotic gear would plummit. Tremendously. AC tokens would be insanely cheap. Ectoplasm supply would go up immensely, dropping their prices. t6 mats would also get cheap-er. Precursors would be more widely available and cheaper. Buying AC Tokens->buying exotic weapons -> forge.
It would be chaos. Utter and complete chaos….
Things would be much cheaper? I’m trying to find the negative in that.
Well that was very nice of Arenanet to do. They didn’t have to, nor were obligated to do, nor was it the right or ethical thing they had to do. Very nice of you Arenanet.
Sarcasm…or an undercover dev?!
go away !!
I love this game too.. so you think I undercover dev to?
if you dont like the game then go away !
Don’t you know that the positive threads are not welcomed? Anything positive is considered off topic.
Haha, no they don’t. Mike O’Brien wants this to be more successful than WoW. WoW didn’t have a decline of any sort until 2010. 6 years. Not 3 months.
2009, actually.
And we don’t live in the age of WoW-sized MMOs any more. You won’t be seeing very many games hitting those kinds of numbers nowadays, because the MMO market is much more heavily saturated than it was at WoW’s release.
Yup. Prior to WoW, MMOs grew over time. Then WoW released, made MMOs mainstream, and saturated the market. Now MMOs start off with big numbers, and then dwindle down to their steady point for the successful ones. Now days, MMO will never have as many players as what they launched with, Launch month is going to be their biggest numbers.
Get faster internets =P
I haz much landz.
Move to the city or the suburbs… problem solved =P
You guys have selective vision.
2 die-hard friends of mine that have managed to keep playing confirm many of the problems written about here and also let me know about the population levels.
You miss that bit or just choose not to see it?
Then you don’t need the forums to save time, you can save even more time by talking to your friends, and not waste time on the forums. Or are your friends having to much fun with the game they don’t have much time to talk to you? =P
Get faster internets =P
I agree, anything related to this game should be also be on the official forums. People should not be expected to use 3rd party sites to find patch information or other important information about this game.
its a pretty big patch wonder what it is
50 MB isn’t a big patch /shrug
What are you five? of course there’s gonna be decline, every freaking mmo have decline after launch, if you know anything would would now that,.
Haha, no they don’t. Mike O’Brien wants this to be more successful than WoW. WoW didn’t have a decline of any sort until 2010. 6 years. Not 3 months.
2010? I thought it was 2012 for WoW. Oh wait, was 2010 when WoW was banned from China temporarily?
At the first least each map should have 1 location where you can teleport to the nearest major city for free.
lol, every MMO, if ones that are good and have very little bugs, still have pages and pages and pages of complaints. Going by what the forums say is the worse way to see how a game is doing. All MMO forums are 95% complaints, majority of players who use forums are here to complain, with some that are like me, still visit the forums but very much enjoy the game. Happy customers tend not to give feedback, but unhappy customers tend to scream the loudest, but that doesn’t meant they are the majority.
I hated heroes and henchies in GW1. Especially heroes. Turned the MMO part of the game into single player and drove me away from GW1 PvE. Would hate to see them in GW2.
Guild Wars 1 was in fact never an MMO, wasn’t designed to be an MMO, wasn’t advertised as an MMO, the Developers didn’t even call it an MMO.
TLDR: Guild Wars 1 is not an MMO.
This thread is way off topic….. it is a positive thread -.-
Call of Duty 2 have more players than GW2
rolfmao
Apples to orangutans comparison -.-
It has more players then WoW as well.
Not a good comparison at all
Stats based on around 4200 players…
Big deal OP…
Neilson Ratings use about 5000 households to determine what 130 Million house holds are watching on TV -.-
I wouldn’t be surprised that the pattern of hours played on Xfire would closely match the pattern of hours played that Arenanet can see.
