I don’t care if they put raids in the game, just as long as the raids do not include any exclusive content, they can turn the existing dungeons into raids if they like, where people can get a choice to do the raid version of the 5 man version.
I personally disagree with them allowing legendaries to be sold on the TP. People getting them are just buying the gold anyway (some are even just buying the weapons).
Considering it would cost $700-$4000 to get one, I would say the vast majority of the people who have them just grinded it out.
I doubt that is what he is saying. What they need to do is have the achievement separated per character. Have 8 characters, can do the daily 8 times per day, 1 per character, and the laurels would be character bound, not account bound.
So that’s exactly what I was saying… someone with 8 alts will get 8 amulets in the same time someone with 1 character will get his.
So not sure why that wouldn’t be fair then? They had to do the effort 8 times for 8 different characters. Still a 1 to 1 effort.
Another shame with doing it this way is that it’s unfair to people with alts.
You mean you wanted to do a daily once for all your characters so at the same time someone with one character gets his amulet, you would get it on all your alts as well?
This would be really unfair for those without lots of alts and a HUGE bonus to those with 10+ characters. The Daily/Monthly system already rewards multiple characters, you can finish them with any of your characters already, in any combination.
I doubt that is what he is saying. What they need to do is have the achievement separated per character. Have 8 characters, can do the daily 8 times per day, 1 per character, and the laurels would be character bound, not account bound.
There is no side kicking. There is only being de-leveled when you are in an area that is lower level then you are.
My concern is that they’re going to use this multi-month event as a promo for the expansion, and that it won’t end up being a self-contained story.
Personally I would be OK with that.
Why in the multi-kitten world would they remove Dynamic Events when this game is promoted and advertised based on Dynamic Events as it’s selling point??
They wouldn’t remove all dynamic events, but there would be dynamic events they would take out, and replace them with something different. This is what the developers have said in the past they would do to help with keeping the zones a little more fresh and more interesting to level in.
I’m worried that some of the dynamic events or other content might be changed or removed. With roughly a week to go before this update is applied, can we get a heads up if this is the case?
Will this change the Defeat the Claw of Jormag DE? What about the other zones in the north?
Please let confirm any potential changes or content removal as I would rather prioritize exploring this content before it changes rather than WvW, fractals, etc if this is indeed the case. If I can get a confirmation that only new events will be added and that no changes to existing content is the case, then that would ease my concerns and I could continue completing the monthly.
Why would they remove content that they worked so hard to make? If anything, they add to it..
Actually developers in the past have said that there would be Dynamic Events that they would bring in and out of the game, so yes it is possible they would take out content, but bring it back at some other time.
So I wouldn’t worry about them taking out content, cause they’ll bring it back some time in the future. Honestly I think it is a great idea to bring in and out content, that way it can make the zones different with other characters.
Got 2 yesterday in about 3 hours of gaming
Well I am playing a Thief and a necromancer right now, and I am over the age of 30. Apparently only ages of 4-22 can play Thief or Necromancers -.- =D
I remember them saying that not every player would be able to get one.
I think what they meant to say is that most players wouldn’t want to get them. Everyone can get one, cause they are super easy to get even if don’t even buy it (RL money or in game gold), but most people just wouldn’t want to subject themselves to an epic boring tedious brainless RNG grind -.-
:D so if you are over 30 one should only be playing a Guardian, Warrior, Elementalist, or a Ranger. That is a funny chart there =D
Mildly interested, but I admit I’m not wholeheartedly thrilled either.
Ascended amulets, okay, fair enough as I knew they were coming. But no discussion of adding existing Ascended gear to other parts of the game, I notice….don’t think we’ve forgotten that promise. If you just add them all to Fractals, expect a fresh new wave of backlash over it.
Still, looking forward to laurels and guesting, and changes to the daily achievements that will hopefully be productive. I’d like to see the monthly system changed to work similarly, so that players can choose which achievements to run every month to finish monthlies.
A big war between Jormag(Frost) and Primordius(Flame)!! :o
That would be awesome, actually, and does kind of fit the name….but I kinda doubt that’s actually what’s happening. Still, I’m looking forward to this multi-month event as it sounds awesome….yet, I have one big concern.
And that concern is this: I’m worried that this entire multi-month event is just setting the stage for the first expansion, and that we’ll have to buy the expansion to get the full story. GW1 managed to introduce entire post-campaign storylines of a fairly significant size and did it entirely for free, so I sure hope GW2 isn’t drumming up this multi-month event for additional drama when they announce the first expansion. That’d be awfully disappointing.
Colin, mind putting my fears to rest, please?
Arenanet already stated that eventually in the coming months daily/monthly achievements will be changed to where you only need to complete like 4/6 ojectives of them. I believe they stated it is not happening in this next patch, but that it is coming.
I have an AMD FX6100, 12 Gigs Ram, 2×7850s (2gig each), play at 1920×1080 on ultra and using SweetFX and I get 60 FPS, 30 FPS when things are really busy.
Charging real money threw gem perchances for server transfers at first sounded like a very good way to keep people from transferring to the winning server just to be on the winning side. Now all the people with deep pockets will be jumping into the winning servers. Is this the best way to keep all the servers as even as possible, it may not be, it maybe a better way to use XP points to buy a tickets for server transfers or some other point system that you get for playing in WvWvW. I can understand the need to generate revenue to keep the game running and I have spent my fair share in the gem store but I think this may need to be reavaluated in the future to see if this is the best way to handle server transfers.
People really need to quit worrying about the rich people who spend friviously, there really isn’t that many out there, certainty not enough to make any kind of balance issue.
Honestly I’m just confused that you were spending $15 a month.
Unless you were converting them into gold I can’t imagine what you found in the gem store to spend that much on.
Who says he was spending most of that? He stated he was spending $15 a month to show his suppport, basically pretending that he was paying for a subscription. I have been buying Gems myself since release and haven’t spent any of it yet, but I want to show my support to Arenanet as well.
So what? Grind your face off for comps, or grind your face off for gold to buy it. Still grinding the same time, just for a diff reward using a diff path. Point?
I think you miss the point.. by a long way.
You need not grind at all now they have Legendry weopons on the TP.. you simply pass your CC details to your local Black Lion Trading Post rep and tada you have “x” amount of gems to then exchange for gold and buy that Legendary… that sir is the point.. it makes the game P2W when the whole point of such items is they were supposed to be the pinnacvle of your game play until the next expansion of the game opens the gates to the next summit to reach.
.
Sure, if they want to pay $2000-$4000 for their legendary -.-, and even if one goes through a gold seller, it cost $700 to $1400 to get.
Don’t worry, the vast vast majority of the Legendary holders didn’t spend $2000-$4000 for their legendary, they either played the TP or they grinded the RNG game.
Legendaries are already a joke. When I see someone walking around with a legendary, the first thing that comes to mind is how sad it is they spent that much real world money on a few pixels. It should not be that way.
To be fair, I wouldn’t assume they spend real world money, cause that would be $700-1400 if buying gold from a gold sellers, and $2000-$4000 if buying Gold with Gems. the amount of people to actually do that compared to the amount of people who do have a legendary is going to be very small, very small. So if anything instead of thinking they bought it with real money, just think that all they did was some boring tedious RNG grind that took no skill.
I find this thread strange, I am always out leveling the zones. The level 1-15 areas, I am always leaving at least level 18, and as high as level 21. Some of my characters were level 34 when entering level 25+ areas for the first time.
In my observation, I have seen a crap ton of people who will do a dynamic event, and then leave immidiatly afterwards, instead of hanging around for a minute or 2 to join in on the the next dynamic event. Take Ashford for instance: there is a dynamic event where you need to collect devour eggs, once that event is over, I see most people just leaving, but if they stuck around then they would have seen the Devour Mother appear and it is another dynamic event. I also see lots of people just passing by NPCs that run up and yell “I need help” or something like that, if you actually talk to those NPC they actually show you on your map where a dynamic event is taking place.
This game rewards you for slowing down to smell the roses, stick around for a bit after a dynamic event, talk to NPCs that come running to you. Oh, and follow NPCs that are related to the dynamic event in some way, cause sometime they either lead you to a hidden chest they can only reveal (thinking of the Giant that gets kicked out of his cave because of Trolls, (Kessex Hills, or possibily Queensdale cant remember which) after you complete the dynamic event, he reveals a hidden chest, but you have to wait for him to walk to it, which takes about a minute or so), or sometimes they lead you to another dynamic event.
Tedious grind does not equal challenge. Current system is extremely easy because it is a tedious RNG grind. The OP idea actually has challenge to it, a lot of that stuff is actually a challenge to complete.
The only reason why many people wouldn’t have a legendary with the current system is because it is nothing more then a boring tedious RNG grind. Do you really want something that is looked as as nothing but that? People don’t see a legendary and think “oh that person is good, they are skilled” no instead what they think is “oh, that person just did a boring tedious RNG grind, meh”
You should know it by now but all MMOs are about grind. There just isn’t enough manpower to program something that would take weeks to get yet not be considered ‘grindy’
OP’s suggestions are ‘challenging’ but easy enough to be done in a few weeks.
Arenanet can easily make getting a legendary a long process without it being a tedious RNG grind.

Think it’s more fun this way?
yes, your idea is much more fun to achieving a legendary, and is far more difficult then the the current system.
Too easy, unfortunately.
yet far more difficult then the current system.
Yes, but your post was about people putting theirs up for sale and people buying them. Takes a lot of work either way.
Except if you buy gems and trade them to gold to buy the legendary. The ratio between hours spent in game to get a legendary or hours spent making the real life money to buy gems doesn’t compare at all.
So, there will be people running around showing off their legendaries that put in the work and then those who simply bought them via real cash.
I can imagine that people who worked for it in game might feel a bit cheated. All in all the karma system should provide unique rewards that are only attainable via karma. That side of the game is not used nearly enough. A missed opportunity.
It cost like $700+ and upwards to $1400 to buy enough gold from a gold selling sight to buy a legendary from the TP. I highly doubt we will see that many people who are willing to spend that kind of money
I find it quite mind boggling that anyone would spend that kind of real currency for a virtual item. Really, I don’t even believe anyone would.
I’m in college for game design. You learn about people like this. They are very very real. The term is whale. It’s how facebook and app games make their money. Most of the money comes from a small portion of the player base. Literally thousands of dollars…on Farmville.
It really is all irrelevant, if anybody wants to spend real life money to get the “best” items in the game, they will find a way to do it. One can easily spend real life money to get all the best gear in WoW as well. In other words, it wouldn’t matter if Legendaries were account bound only, someone with money could still get the legendary with real money, whether that is through paying for a service to do the grind for them, or just buying a max level character with the legendary already.
So talking about gold selling services really is irrelevant to the issue at hand.
It’s the biggest part of this. The only reason Legendaries are on the TP are so that ANet will make more money. Maybe they’ll get a whale. Maybe it’ll just be a few small purchases to save time. But in the end, they’re up there so ANet makes money.
If Arenanet can actually get people to buy $2000-$4000 in Gems to convert to gold to buy a Legendary, then good for them.
Yes, but your post was about people putting theirs up for sale and people buying them. Takes a lot of work either way.

If legendaries were actually something other then an RNG grind, then the OP has a point. But Legendaries are nothing more then an RNG grind, and there is nothing really special about getting one. So being sold on the TP or grinding through the RNG, either way neither really is anything special.
So the real issue isn’t about it being sold on the TP, the real issue is that there is no meaningful way to obtain one, there is nothing special about getting a legendary.
I would be all for advocating taking out the RNG to obtaining one, and make it some kind of epic story line and or achievements to obtain one. IF they did that, then I would be all for being account bound. But as long as it is nothing special to get one, and nothing more then an RNG grind, I say having them for sale on the TP makes no difference, either way it is a grind.

Ok I just bought the game and am downloading at the moment but I was wondering if there are guest passes you can give to friends so they can try out the game?
nope
It’s not about making money, it’s a deterrent from people hopping servers every week because they can’t handle losing at WvW.
well, the money is a nice bonus =D
i know that the people at arena net need to make money however i think world transfers are something that should definitely be free and i don’t want to spend my hard earned money on something as crucial as that. i am fine paying for other thinks at the store like cosmetics or more character slots but at least make it once every 2 weeks or something is when you world transfer its just dumb anybody agree with me?
Nope I do not. Having free transfers is very unhealthy for the WvWvW game, it is good that they are going to start charging for the transfers like they stated they would even before the game was released.
Orr isn’t particularly tough to move around, but it’s still really annoying. Not being able to go anywhere without having to fight 2/3 of the enemies you see is annoying for two reasons IMO:
1. I HATE trying to get somewhere to help with an event and it taking forever because you have to keep stopping and fighting trash MOBs that are packed in like sardines. Having to constantly mow down trash just slows people getting to the fun stuff.
2. The endless CCs. God I hate getting pulled, stunned and KD’ed constantly for the first 20 seconds of every fight. Again, not challenging, just really annoying.
To be honest, I am a solo PvE player and I like Orr the way it is, all of it. It just misses some population from time to time, but this could have simply been adjusted by better rewards.
Now another three zones will get as easy as the whole game already is…
If all three zones become a cakewalk, what is the reason for still playing them. Some people like a bit of a challenge, and yes, you can do most of the DEs in Orr solo, it is just not brain-dead easy some times. How does mob density make a zone fun? To me, interesting and creative mechanics would be more fun. Intelligent and strategic placement would be fun. Running through a mine field that has the power to not only blow up on you but actually suck you into it’s explosion (figurative speech folks, don’t take it literally) is tedious and mind numbing.
I want real fights and the challenge of coordination added. Having to stop to kill everything you come across or having an escape build is hardly something I would call enjoyable. If that’s what you like, then yes, you are probably going to be disappointed in the upcoming changes. No, more rewards will not change the population drops in the long run, they are virtual rewards, people get bored of those quickly. An interesting and rewarding challenge is what encourages people to play. You want endless grinding of mobs, I hear there are some great Asian developed MMOs for that. Not saying that’s bad, just don’t want it here.
This and This really spells it out great about why the changes are welcomed. Annoying does not equal challenge, grinding through mobs after mob after mob does not equal challenge, it is just annoying.
I agree with Vorch as well. Maybe populations are not so bad during prime time, but for people who do not play during the prime time, populations are pretty bad. With Vorch’s idea, it can remedy that.
=D thought this would have been a big deal to many, considering the number of times I have seen people talk about Orr not being any fun because of the mob density, and the zones going unused because of that reason.
/shrug
Why don’t they just have 2 sets of numbers for each skill, one for PvE and one for PvP? Isn’t this what they did in GW1? Why not do the same thing?
I have never seen Arenanet ever state anything as such.
Orr is going to be less populated with mobs sometime this month, which is awesome.
I just read on another website transcripts from some feed. Thank you for the change that is coming to Orr with thinning the numbers on Orr. Even more exciting that it is coming this month.
This should make Orr much more fun for people like me who are very casual players and tend to not have many people to rely on to play with, so we play solo a lot, and this will make Orr much more playable for the solo players.
So once again, thank you.
Was reading the blog and now they wish to make you pay for a server transfer?? Why..only a excuse to get more money from the player base, whats next a subscription to post on the forums..this game has quickly turned into a Much more costly game than when it was pre-purchased.
This has been known to be coming since before the game was released, this isn’t any new information at all. The Guesting system wasn’t ready yet, so they didn’t feel it was right to charge for server transfers before the Guesting system was ready. But like said, this was known to be happening before the game was even released.
I’m not exactly sure what is in those gear chests, but I am HOPING that it’s armor or even just skins for class specific armor. It may just be backpieces and jewelery though.
Long story short, too soon to tell.
Yeah. I just wish he would have at least touched on the subject, since it’s such a big deal that we still know absolutely nothing about.
Well he did say that they wanted people be able to get the most powerful gear playing the game they want to, including getting ascended gear. I feel it is safe to assume that people who just like doing the open world PvE will be able to get the most powerful equipment in the game, and I bet dollar to donuts that is what is in those chests.
Depends on how unfamiliar with other mmos you are.
If you have played other mmos to any reasonable degree, especially the more squishy classes, GW2 will be a culture shock. Over there you are used to using CC to hold back a couple of mobs to ease on the fight. Over here the CC barely last a couple of seconds, and so can rarely help ease the fight to any solid degree.
In essence, GW2 CC is used to counter big attacks rather than trim the mob herd.
and that is what makes the combat in this game so much more of a challenge as compared to other MMOs. It is easy to say ok, CC Crown, Square, X, and Circle, DPS down the Skull, then X, Square, circle, crown. Now in GW2, is it people paying attention to the animation of the boss/champion and knowing when to use the CC or knowing when to Dodge
agreed with Blaeys
But they should’nt be to hard for a group of CP’s the same level as the champ and we should be able to take more then 1-3 hits. I have only seen a champ go down because there where CP’s 10+ levels higher then it taking it down, can tell by the gear. I guess what this game needs is a healing class.
Not to turn this into “L2P”.. but it seems like you have a few misconceptions to unlearn.. and you need to get better at the game.
You state that champion mobs shouldn’t be able to kill you in 1-3 hits.. why? This is a very powerful opponent you’re fighting.. what kind of tension would that fight be if you could tank dozens of hits without caring?
Here’s a tip: Dodge. Champs are supposed to kill you in 1-3 hits because you are supposed to avoid/block those hits, not just stand there hoping to soak them up.
Yup, great thing about those champions is that you have to pay attention and learn their animations. This is what the dodging mechanic really is all about, learning the animations of the champion and dodging at the right time. Now on my Warrior and guardian I may take a big hit or 2 from a champion meeting them for the first time, but after that I learned their animations and avoid there big hits every time, and just take their normal hits.
Lets also remember that in WvWvW you have players in there from levels 1-80 (bolstered to 80). There is already a difference between a level 80 character and a level 10 character that has been bolstered up, the level 80 character still has the advantage over the level 10 even though the level 10’s gear was bolstered up, it still doesn’t compare to the level 80 character. So having acsended gear in the WvWvW doesn’t make any difference in the balance of WvWvW.
What I’ve heard here in these forums is ArenaNet/NCSoft is uncommonly gracious in permitting refunds, even of accounts that have been activated. Contact support and see what they can do for ya.
That is if only if the game was bought from Arenanet themselves, not bought from other stores.
The only thing I ask for is any kind of mob that is above a standard mob should drop something every time. Right now I just ignore any mob higher then standard that is not related to an event, cause getting a drop from them is next to nil chance and just isn’t worth the time.
Sadly, ebay has the games for a greatly reduced price and paying fees would really be a bit of a hassle that I could just use the game myself..
My father plans on taking the game to gamestop tomorrow to see if there is a small chance he could get a refund or some sort of exchange. I do not expect it to happen though.
You will get a full refund, 100% sure of this. If the box is unopened and you have the receipt, they will take it back.
Soo, the box is opened to where you can see the account cd key? If no, I don’t see why they will not let you return the game.
It doesn’t come in plastic wrap, only a transparent stickler covering the opening part of the box that can be peeled off and easily reattached to make it look unopened.
Plus, on the gamestop website they state that they do not accept PC download games for refunds.
If you did not open the box then you can return the game. What they mean by no refunds on pc download games, they mean games you downloaded from Gamestop website, they do not mean boxed games. If you have the receipt and the box is unopened they will take the game back.
919h+ on main, 1172h or smth overall, player since beta. Who cares how people obtain their legendary, they can pay for it if they want to, I finished my Sunrise last week and I know how much effort I put into it, so it has a much bigger meaning/value to me. I think it took me around 2 months. It’s not a status symbol, you won’t get any more respect if you suck. It’s just a nice looking skin that only costs a lot of money and RNG.
About the unobtainable legendary for casuals, I have a full time job and I enjoy my weekends, there are times I don’t have time to play at all after work. Since I value my time I have for playing, I spend it only on stuff I enjoy. For getting the mats needed for legendary, I didn’t farm Orr, never touched TP, did flipping/etc, never spent a dime on goldsellers/gemshop. I don’t enjoy that. It’s like having a second job, that actually doesn’t give you any income. I got all of my gold/karma/half of lodestones from dungeons and casual gameplay. Also jumping badges ftw.
It required quite a bit of dedication and more grind that I liked, but OP is wrong, you don’t need to be some überrich/TP playa/goldbuyer to get yourself a legendary as a casual. Since the addition of karma jugs/dungeons giving karma/etc 1mil karma is supereasy to obtain. Skillpoints are a bit of a problem, but you should have enough as a long time player and you can always use fractal tokens to get those faster aswell. Alternative is just to create a new character and explore a bit. Atleast 1/4 T6 come from clover recipe, depends on how unlucky you are with clover RNG, rest can be bought from TP. Ectos come from random rare/exo drops from dungeons and guaranteed rares you buy for dungeon tokens. Getting 100g for icy runestones shouldn’t take you more than about a 1-2 weeks of casual gameplay. Lodestones/precursor are definitely the most painful part of legendary. I’ve pretty much mastered CoE thanks to farming charged cores/lodestones and I know the pain to buy them from TP. I lucked out with the precursor, since I got it for free and I didn’t have to spent time with it. Would have probably added another month in RNG/gathering gold for it, but still doable.
LOL dude 1200 hours in a game thats not even 5 months old I call shenanigens on you having a job or “enjoying your weekends” unless your job was gw2 and enjoying your weekend meant playing it.
Sorry for knowing how to manage my time effectively?
Do you want my yearly income as a proof or smth?No just admit you over exaggerate your time played because if you started playing during headstart that would be from aug27th- today 138 days that would equate to roughly 8.5 hours a day everyday so I call shenanigans.
All he does is wake up, go to work, come home, play GW2 the rest of the day till he goes back to bed. 8 Hours work, 8 hours GW2, 8 Hours Sleep. So yes he can have that many hours in the game and still have a full time job, but he is literally doing nothing but working and playing GW2 when he is awake. Not a life I would want to live, but to each his own. Personally I enjoy my full time work, spending time with my wife and son, and then spending about 1 hour per day playing GW2, and about 6 hours total over the weekend.

You are far far from a casual player, you are averaging 8 hours of play every day, 7 days a week. That is hardcore playing. And considering you are saying that it shouldn’t take more then 1-2 weeks of casual play, and you consider your 8 hours a day as casual, it will take a lot more then 1-2 weeks of real casual play, more like 2+ months.
Doesn’t really matter to me though how long it takes, no interest in having to do grinding for legendary, grinding is no fun.
