So is crafting worth it yet?

I have been away from the game for the last 3 months or so (very little time to play games and there were some good Single player games that I wanted to play). Before I left, crafting wasn’t really worth it. It was better to just pick up every crafting item while playing, sell them on the TP, and then just buy the same crafted items on the TP as one would make if they had crafting, and come out with a profit. Also later in crafting, it become increasingly harder to level it up and took a whole lot of material famring grinding to get to the higher levels of crafting, and a whole lot of gold as well.

Is it still like that?

Whatever. I don’t really get a sense of that really happening. The OP has provided very strong evidence that it’s not really happening.

And what evidence has the OP shown that Arenanet is NOT reading the suggestions, and is NOT delivering that feedback to the development team? And before you say it, having no reply is not proof of that at all. So what strong evidence has the OP shown, cause I do not see any at all?

Feel free to make any suggestions you want, but don’t expect an answer.

You are obviously right and based on personal experience from my place of work, I find that absolutely appalling.

Our company recieves 4-5 suggestions from clients every day and the company policy is that all employees must act on any suggestion they recieve. We are required to rate and/or forward any suggestions to relevant persons/dept.
At the most basic level all client suggestions will be acknowledged and the client is thanked for showing interest.
We have several product improvements and services that can be directly linked to suggestions from our customers and their involvement is considered a valuable asset to the company.

I guess the computer gaming industry is still very young as client suggestions defaults to being considered a liability.

Does your company potentially have 3 million unique clients that need to be taken care of by a company with ~150 employees, of which a lot of them have nothing to do with development?

My brother’s company is the same as your, however, he (himself) only has to take care of very few clients at a time, most of the time he is just dealing with 1 client at a time. So it is easy to give feedback to clients about their suggestions. But with potentially 3 million unique clients, and all the suggestions they give, the amount of time to analyze their suggestions, talk about them, and the time just to eventually get to dealing with their suggestion in the first place, it becomes extremely daunting. More then likely the development team is backlogged full of suggestions. It is daunting, and expecting a reply is not reasonable at all. Just be glad they compile the feedback everyday to give to the development, so they can look over it.

Maximum Honesty: based on OP, this game is not for you.

Yup, pretty much this. WoW isn’t for me, and that is why I do not play it, and I don’t expect it to ever be for me. Instead I play a game that fits my play style, and my wants for a game, so I play Guild Wars 2 and Defiance.

If you are getting tired of WoW and want to quit, then you are best to go find another game that fits your play style, and Guild Wars 2 is not it.

Wow! Awesome, glad to see this game is doing very well. Very rare that an MMO has to increase capacity (either on servers itself, or adding new servers) 7 months after launching the game. Most mmo’s descreased the number of servers by now.

Will there ever be an Armory for GW2?

As long as there is no linkage with the forums in any way shape or form. So you would have to look up stuff by character name and not by our account names to make sure the Armory doesn’t bleed over to the forums. Perhaps make it so we can only see our own characters and cannot see anybody else’s, that would be even better.

im 30 and i dont like the new content. was hoping for a “normal” content update. this doenst fit into an fantasy mmo and i dont unterstand why we dont get any good content that stays interesting like fractals. it took time to devolope this stuff and for me its a waste of time. its lacking more and more…

While I appreciate where you’re coming from, I can say that I’m so sick of “normal” that I’ve been beginning to wonder if anyone was willing to stick their neck out for the sake of creativity, and apply something new and intelligent to this genre.

Pure fantasy MMO’s are a dime a dozen. There for awhile, I thought GW2 was going down that path as well, but I’m glad to see they’ve finally, in true GW style, bucked the system and did their own thing.

Maybe it’s because I’m older than you, and have been around the fantasy video game block more, but to be honest, you just seem to be asking for more of what’s already out there.

That’s fine, if that’s what you want – but do keep in mind that some of us are looking for things more creative, intelligent, interesting, and stimulating that the same old same old, rinse and repeat.

This post made me think. When I was younger I read a lot of fantasy and science fiction…and I still enjoy those types of books. Now, however, I read a much wider variety of books. I’m not so attached to one genre anymore. I like cross-genre stuff, mainstream stuff. The last book I read was a historical drama about building a tunnel under the Berlin Wall. Good stuff. Now I’m reading a fantasy novel.

The steady diet of fantasy as I get older has worn quite thin. The only thing worse than fantasy to me is fantasy with elves and dwarves. Vampires are in the same boat. They’re over-played and I can do without them.

Sylvari fill the same “ecological niche”, for lack of a better word, as elves…but they’re not elves. Asura, they’re really not gnomes, but they serve much the same purpose. Charr…well they’re just cool. lol

So yeah, I’m sorta glad Anet killed off the dwarves. lol

What is infinitely worse on bookstore fantasy shelves these days is the proliferation of books that feature hard-bitten, supernaturally-tinged, modern-day heroines who all face supernatural threats while inevitably falling in love with someone dangerous. Oh, and almost all are written in the 1st person style. I have no problem with urban fantasy romance as a sub-genre, but why are they all the same?

At least GW2 doesn’t have any of that… at least as official content.

Who doesn’t love a Zombie Boy and Living Girl romance novel? -.-

I don’t know what this thread is about … I’ve been using the LFG tool for months… It works pretty well and I don’t think a.net has anything to add to it.

up until this thread, I didn’t even know about that website, and when looking for a group nobody ever mentioned it. Even talked about with other people over general chat about the need for a lfg tool over the last several month, and still nobody even mentioned this site.

To me, I would say the vast majority of the players do not even know about this site at all. There needs to be one in the game, then the vast majority of the people will know about one, and it will become even easier for everyone to find groups.

Don’t forget the large chunk of us that know about it but refuse to use a 3rd party website for basic MMO features from 2008. I’m glad they are working on it, I’ll finally see a dungeon when it comes out.

Is it really so bad to join a guild…because that functionality has been in game since launch, making it easy for some of us to find dungeon parties without a third party site at all.

hard to find good guilds. Seems like the vast majority of guilds out there are crap.

Take the dynamic events. Rift had them, in the form of Rifts. Warhammer had them in the guise of public events. But both those games also had traditional questing systems, and the other events are just tacked on.

Interestingly enough though, is that Arenanet was the first one to announce Dynamic events. Rifts and WARs came later. IMO, this makes it that GW2 was actually the first, and should still get the revolutionary title.

Warhammers dynamic events, public quests, existed before Guild Wars 2 annouced them. Quite a bit before. Rift built on those.

It’s an evolution of the genre, but not a revolution.

Dynamic events were first going to be in Utopia (canceled project that was the ground work for GW2), and was already being talked about way before WAR talked about Public Quests. Earliest time for WARs announcement was about Feb 2007, Utopia was already being talked about since it was going to be released in April of 2007 and most of the work was already done by the time they canceled it.
Anet were the first ones to talk about dynamic events. Public quests were not even talked about for nearly 2 years after development started, and only about 1 year prior to releasing.

I think... I think I need open world PvP...

If they ever added something like this, then they need to make sure that people who did not flag themselves for PvP cannot be put into auto flagged for PvP because they joined a group with someone who is flagged, or someone flagged goes into your AOE, or you accidently clicked on them and did an attack, or purposely buffed them/healed them during an event.

That’s a lot of karma boosters, dyes and mini pets to find space for!!!

I should state that is over 4 accounts as well. Yes, my nephew has 4 accounts, because he likes to play on 4 different servers for WvWvW. So basically he opened 100 chests per account.

I feel absolutely ripped off, i enjoy this game and have played it since launch, but opening this many chests and getting not 1 ticket, has be changing my opinions about Anet, going from this experience, they are making money from this sort of gambling. I have never in any mmo witnessed such a terrible way of aquiring something in game, where there is a random drop rate. If the drop rate was a set % i should have seen one by now. Like i said 1% drop rate and ive opened 188, hitting 200 chests would be i should have had 2 tickets total. When people get there ticket in less then 5 chests, thats alot better then a 1% chance.

Simple fact is, 188 and i should have had one no excuses.

I’m sure it does have a set % drop chance. The problem is that each chest has the same % drop chance that is independent of any other chests you have opened. It could have a 1% chance to drop, and it is more likely that you will not see 1 out of 100 drop. Each time you open a chest, you have the same % chance of it dropping, and opening a chest prior to opening the next chest does not increase your odds, your odds stay the same every time.

This is why you can open up 188 chests and not get a drop, because every time you opened one up, the roll landed on a non ticket spot.

Anyways, it took over 400 chests for my nephew to finally get one -.-

Anet, the skins would have been stuff I would have spent gems on if RNG was not in the system. Please, give me something to spend my Gems on, cause when I run out of Gems I will spend more money.

Here is a hint, items that changes the look of my characters combat gear is stuff I am willing to buy.

i love that people knew BEFORE this game was released that all the stuff on the gem shop was gonna be cosmetic. Lo and behold, it all is! The description in the update notes says “Rare chance” and people still try 200 times and then whine incessantly when they don’t hit the jackpot. I for one am superstoked that they are account bound so that people aren’t tempted to gamble to sell them for a lot of money. I think this is a better system to protect people with tendencies toward gambling addiction that can’t help themselves.

I would much rather be able to choose the weapon skin I want, rather than waste all my money gambling for it. There are 16 available weapons. What if I only want one of them?

Leave them account bound, Just let me choose the one I want.

You can choose what weapon skin you want, that part is guaranteed. But you first need to get the ticket from the chest in order to choose what skin you want. It is that ticket that has a rare chance to drop from the chest. Once the ticket drops for you, you can take it to the right vendor and choose which skin you want.

Still gambling, just not as bad as you thought it was. But still bad to have gambling imo.

Felt like checking how rare, “rare”, was this time. After roughly 100 Black Lion Chests opened and 100 Euro spending money spent (I ain’t fuzzed about the money, it was meant for supporting the game at any rate), I had a total of 0 Fused Weapon Skin tokens to show for it.

Now, as I wrote, I ain’t mad about the money involved, they were always set aside to spend on the Gem Store (as my incentive to not take up smoking again), however, I do get more and more annoyed at how rare they need to make certain things, Account Bound things at that, from random chance boxes. They’re basically pushing, at least me, further and further away from wanting to spend any more money on their game to support it.

I did get a Name Change Contract though! That’s always great, considering I don’t want to rename any of the 8 characters. Also got 3 Total Makeover Kits, although I don’t want to change my appearance. And I got a Self-Style Hair Kit, which was the only decent not-so-common item that I feel I can have some use for, maybe. Personally I don’t find it helpful/exciting to get these types of items in a random chance box either, as I would much rather buy them as I want them, if I want them. As-is, they are just taking up precious Bank slots.

If I didn’t luck out on the Unidentified Dyes that I got, where one turned out to be a Abyss Dye, the whole 100 Euro spent would be for more or less complete junk (personal opinion I guess, as I really don’t care for Boosters or one-use Mystic Tonics).

It’s a shame that their Gem Store team insists on milking the player base. Instead of additionally providing a direct Gem cost purchase for the weapon skins, though at a slightly “higher cost”. I wouldn’t mind spending 2000 Gems (25 Euro) on a weapon skin, if I really want it. I do mind spending 8000 Gems not getting what I want however. But, as others would say, it’s the players own fault for hoping ArenaNet stops these cheap business tactics in order to make money. On the bright side, we’re not forced to spend money in the Gem Store, though if everyone simply stops doing that and only convert their in-game Gold to Gems, I wonder how long they can keep the game development going.

PS: I honestly ain’t mad about it, I went in not expecting it to be too good of a chance when they worded it as “rare”. I am disappointed (in ArenaNet) yes, but not mad.

If everyone quit buying Gems with real money, then there would be no Gems to buy with gold. All gems bought with gold are actually gems that were bought by another player with real money.

So people would have to stop using anything associated with Gems and not buy any gems at all with real money to make Anet want to make a change.

I hate how there is gambling in the system, so I do not spend money on that stuff, I will continue to play the game despite that. But Anet is not making as much money from me as they would if Gambling was not present. It is whether or not Anet makes more money from the gambling or not, and I guess they have information that shows they make more money from Gambles then they do with no gambles.

I hate how it is gambling. There are things I would buy in the GEM store using real money if there was zero gambling involved. But as long as there is gambling involved, I will only buy the stuff I know that I am getting 100%. I would buy all the fused skins if I could buy them outright from the store with no gambling. But now I will not spend any money on those fused skins because of gambling.

I strictly bought this game because the lack of a totally solid trinity would prevent forcing me in to a designated role with no flexibility.

You would take that away.

There’s a reason I don’t play any other MMO.

So you like being a jack of all trades, master of none, marginalized purpose..someone that is just a number in a sea of numbers? Flexibility would be allowing a Guardian or Necromancer fully spec into a healing role. Try that here, kitten your team’s efficiency. Flexibility is in the eye of the beholder.

Yes, this is exactly the reason the players who don’t enjoy trinity will love GW2 like me.
I for myself really hate the needs of tank and healer in a party, i prefer every member is needed equally.

And i agree GW2 got a lot room to improve but definitely not the suggestion of making trinity return or suddenly add a healer class. This combat system is new and Anet should develop more deeper and interesting encounter around it, not making a totally overhaul to such a fantastic system.

But i guarantee you your ranger is not as valuable to the party as a guardian. Your ele doesn’t have time warp, your engineer can’t put out damage or take damage like a warrior.

We already have a soft trinity formed. Guardian, Mesmer, Warrior…the game is extremely unbalanced. With a healer class, encounters would improve, team engagement would improve, so many reasons why this game could use a class system overhaul.

Guardian has such good support, mesmer has great utility, warrior has great damage…that’s like the trinity anyways. Why not add a healer class so that all team specs can be viable? I can run 4 rangers and a healer…balance the classes around the healer..so much potential.

You must think fights like Jormag and braindead mechanics like down state are the way of the future. I question the mentality of everyone who doesnt at least think of what the game would be like if it was designed with more defined roles.

Braindead? Mentality of others?
Seriously, get off your high horse. I haven’t meant anyone with a mature mentality who believes that it is their way, and anyone who disagrees has mental issues.

Real adults knows that people have different likes and dislikes, different opinions when it comes to game design, and will have the mental maturity to not insult people for having differing opinions then they do.

I’m just saying people that reject trinity on a narrow basis like they dont want to strategize. think or cooperate in a game…or that they think it’s like WoW tank and spank…im speaking specifically of people who know nothing of combat in GW1. Im sure if these people against it actually played GW1, they’d see that Anet really sold out their fans. There is logical reasoning behind trinity mechanics making fights more deep and engaging. To say that down state and a self heal button is better than another interactive class specialization that contributes to team depth…that’s just an idiotic thing to say and i fully believe that people thinking this are in a deficient mental state regardless of their likes or dislikes.

I disagree with you. I do not believe that Trinity inherently make fights more deep and engaging, it is the design of the fights themselves that makes them deep and engaging. WoWs fights in Vanilla were very shallow, even the raids were very shallow. But the developers over time made new fights more deep and engaging in subsequent content updates and expansions.

GW2 is a new design, and I bet we will see the encounters evolve over time. No, the open world stuff will not evolve, those will always stay as zergs, just as quests in other MMOs were very easy to do. But the dungeons content encounters will evolve over time as the developers learn themselves.

This Game's PvE needs a Trinity.

Your alleged “social life” doesn’t entitle you to free things.

If you don’t invest time and effort in something then you don’t get the reward.

That’s a fact of life.

Dailies don’t mimic anything in life though. I work 40 hours per week in 4 days and get paid the same as someone who works 5 days per week 8 hours per day for the same job. According to your logic, the guy working 5 days per week should get paid more then me, just because he is there more days.

The fact is in this game, someone can put in more time and effort then someone else, and get rewarded less.

So quit saying what I quoted, because in this game it is not true at all for so many things.

Now Mackdose.6504 made a compelling counter argument that makes a good point

While that would work on paper, it also counters why dailies were put in: to get people playing every day to populate the open world.

With the weekly, we’d see overflow weekends and dead non-peak.

As in GW1, I’m sure they could solve here too that skills behave differently in PvE than in PvP.

have to say no to 1-2 at the very least, just because what ever changes they make for PvP, also effects PvE

Besides, if someone escapes because they are about to die, that should be a reward as well, cause you made them run away.

They built GW1 with that idea. But for some reason they didn’t build GW2 with that, and have to assume at this time that it will never be.

So I have to put in my opinion on stuff that are based around balancing PvP but have a negative effect on PvE.

Timers on Dragons is actually a good thing. Those dragons rely on many people being there in order to complete them, and if they were at random times, then the chances of having enough people there will be rare, especially during off peak times. having them on a timer especially helps the off peak time players.

Besides the biggest market for this game is casuals, and it is better to have things scripted for casuals because of their limited play times.

This game is not making sense to me!

Guild Wars in the first game was a reference to a historical war. This game takes place in the same world, and Guild Wars already has brand recognition, so it would be much smarter to call it Guild Wars 2. Calling it Guild Wars 2 : Chatper Zhaitan really doesn’t mean anything in marketing, cause most people will not know who Zhaitan is until they start to play the game, and no reason to extend the name of the game anyways.

Their mobility app is on hold at this time. They moved the team working on that to work on making fixes for the game. That was the right decision to make. So it is still on their list of things to do, but there are far more important things to do first.

How do you move someone who is proficient at web coding and design and not on game coding? Mainly thinking here about that woman lead responsible for it.

All I know is that Colin said that the project is on hold because they moved the team over to help make fixes/improvements in the game.

If you choose to skip a few dailies then you have no right to complain about not getting laurels on those days since rewards are based on time/effort invested as is the standard for reward for ALL mainstream online MMOs.

It would be unfair to those that actually put time in to get their laurels on those days for you to get any special consideration.

Time and effort you say? I play 24 hours per week, but only on 3 days per week, I get 3 laurels per week. Some guildies of mine only play 1-2 hours a day for 7 days a week, and they get 7 laurels.

I’m sorry, but getting laurels has nothing to do with time, it is just logging in every day play for 1 hour and get the reward.

Dailies were a bad idea, should have been a weekly with 7 tiers, where each tier gives you the same reward as a daily. This way if you play for 7 days 1-2 hours per day you can get the weekly done and get the 7 laurels, and if you play 3 days 8 hours per day, you can still get the 7 laurels.

While that would work on paper, it also counters why dailies were put in: to get people playing every day to populate the open world.

With the weekly, we’d see overflow weekends and dead non-peak.

That is a good counter point. How about taking the BiS Item that is only available through laurels, and give other ways to obtain it? Would that get rid of the incentive to log in every day? I would imagine people would still want to get as many laurels as possible for the other stuff on the laurel store.

So what happened to this?

no no no. That is a very good way to turn these forums into crap. it turns almost every conversation into armory trolling. No good can come from it, and WoW forums are proof of this.

What you call “armory trolling” is simply giving credit to a person based on what he actually did instead of what he can troll up.

No, I have seen more often then not, someone making a very good post that is very valid, but people would constantly troll his post because of his armory. WoW forums are a cesspool compared to any other MMO forums, because of the linking of forums with in game character. It didn’t matter what the person was saying, or how valid it was, character linking was the deciding factor.

You are acting like changing daily to Weekly is a bad idea, like it would ruin the fabric of the universe. For a game that is targeted towards a casual market, dailys seem like a bad idea for that market, where as weekly would be better for that market.

And the point of my post you quoted is that Time/reward comment that I quoted wasn’t exactly accurate, because someone who can play considerably less gets rewarded more. So time has nothing to do with it, just the ability to log in every day.

And then I gave a good solution to where people can actually get rewarded for their time/effort.

Wrong again. I don’t care either way. I only accept what is reality and work around that reality unlike you.

Wow, I didn’t even bother reading the rest of your post after this sentence. So you just accept the way things are, that is fine. But some of us would like to see improvements in the game and will make suggestions. Don’t act like making suggestions is the wrong thing to do, nor attack people for making them by stating they don’t accept the reality.

I still play this game, obviously with me playing 24 hours per week, despite something I feel is a flaw in design. I’ll make the suggestion, and it is up to Arenanet to use it or not, that is the reality right there.

So what happened to this?

It would be cool to start getting armory with gear/achievements, forum avatars etc.
Makes things a bit more competitive and get players to want to have their armory completed.

I am not going for one. Have no interest in doing some massive boring RNG Grind. Even if the Lengendaries had better stats (which to do not, they equal in power to exoctics), I still would not go for it, because of that super massively boring RNG grind. This is the same reason why I quit doing raids in WoW, they were massively boring and held no real challenge for me, the only challenge was on the raid leaders to get other people to do what they needed, but for me personally there was no challenge, so it was just boring to do any kind of raid since it was very repetitive and there was a whole lot of just standing around doing nothing.

I’d of preferred that they just got rid of being able to get the chest (or guaranteed rare) if you were guesting. Hell, it should have kicked guesters automatically if a server native tried to get into the map. This could have been solved multiple better ways.
Like others have said, Anet keeps kittening people over with multiple alts.

Disagree, this is a good compromise that doesn’t break guesting, and is better for the over all game cause now the economy won’t be flooded with Rares. it is clear that Home server is just for WvWvW purposes, and that home server means nothing in PvE.

for the 10 hours it takes chasing all the dragons down i could sit in the middle of cursed shore and farm events and get MORE yes i said more yellows then the bosses drop

ok? Then do that.

Wrong. It’s entirely up to you to only play 3 days a week. Too bad(for you) the universe doesn’t revolve around you and your schedule.

You yourself admit that it doesn’t take long to get the dailies. (1 hour)

If you can’t manage that despite admitting you play 24 hours a week then that’s your own problem and not ANET’s.

You are acting like changing daily to Weekly is a bad idea, like it would ruin the fabric of the universe. For a game that is targeted towards a casual market, dailys seem like a bad idea for that market, where as weekly would be better for that market.

s o how isnt anet lying about drop rates and obtainablity of preweapons

Other then scavenger hunt for pre-cursors, which they have not stated when it will be released nor ever hinted at it, is the only time they talked about another way to find precursors.

So what are they lying about, because it seems like you are stating something that Arenanet has never stated.

my guildes said that event is not coming after all.

Incorrect.

Read both of Colin Johnson’s posts here http://www.guildwars2guru.com/arenanet-tracker/topic/250635-wheres-the-scavenger-hunt-post/

it is coming, sometime in the future.
