I think Arenanet is very good at making business decisions. Proof of that is they never had to lay off anybody after this game launched, and they have been making $3Million a month in sales. So they know what they are doing to make money. I have no doubt that new customers are buying the game at an acceptable rate for Arenanet. They will lower the price again when they feel they need to, but apparently $50 price tag is still makes a good volumes of sales.

That is talking about NCSoft west, which is a different entity from Arenanet. NCsoft West are the publishers, and the publishers had layoff, Arenanet themselves did not.

Oh, also, your link actually has Martin Kerstein coming and saying

While we are indeed a wholly-owned subsidiary of Korea-based NCsoft Corporation (read NCsoft HQ), we are also our own entity. ArenaNet has not been affected by the NCwest realignment. And indeed, we are hiring: http://www.arena.net/jobs/

so yeah, no layoff at Arenanet

So no lay offs yet still no dueling and trading and lfg a year into release.

Those are your priorities, but Anet had different things they felt were more important.

Like what?? Fractals 5 months ago? like super adventure box? like the karka event? Please tell me what was more important then basic features mmos have in ALPHA.

Feel free to read all the patches/content update notes for the past year. Your opinion differs then Anets and many other players, and that is ok.

The casual of this game is sickening to be honest. If the development team is really aspiring to make a casual MMO (Which is a contradiction in itself) why wouldn’t they just make an I-pad game or something.

Uh…I suspect that there was an element of business strategy involved. From the looks of it, I would say that it was a good business decision.

I guess thats why Arena Net laid off all those employees and Ncsoft was breathing down their necks, because they were making SO MUCH MONEY and making GOOD DECISIONS

Umm, according to Eurogamer interview with Anet less then 2 weeks ago, Anet has 250 employees, the same number of people when the game launched. So no, they did not have any lay offs. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-07-03-its-unlikely-guild-wars-2-will-ever-get-an-expansion-pack

Where are you getting your information about Anet layoff?

If they had 250 employees this game would have a lot more features then it does now. Like trading a year into release.

feel free to prove they do not have 250 employees. Feel free to prove that Arenanet, not NCsoft West, had layoffs. NCsoft West and Arenanet are 2 different entities, and it was NCwest that had layoffs.

Oh, also, 250 Employees does not equal to 250 developers, among that 250 employees are also going to Admin, HR, secretarial, Janitorial, and other people needed to run any business.

If you have issues with RNG boxes then the only real solution is, don’t buy them.
You want awesome new skins, work for it.
The way of the world is just like that, you have the choice my friend!

Yes, technically you can “work” for those skins in those RNG boxes by using Gold to Gems. But the problem is, it is RNG. Someone can work extremely hard, and in the end never end up with the skins they want before those skins are no longer available, and someone could buy 1 box and get the skin they want.

As a customer, I feel that the RNG boxes for skins is very customer unfriendly, but at the same time it doesn’t stop me from playing the game, but it does limit how much money I will eventually spend in the store, since I will not spend money on RNG.

Why are people strongly against raids?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

eisberg.2379

I
So why are people against raids?
They don’t want GW2 to turn into another WoW clone?

The only thing raid related I am against is a raid mechanic that revolves around the best gear/rewards coming only from raids. I’ve been a raider for a long time, and I’ve always been appalled by my fellow raiders believing that they, and they alone, deserve all the best rewards because of the “hard work” we put into it (maybe I was the only one enjoying the raids, cause I never looked at it as “hard work”…)

If a game could implement raids with the exact same rewards as those found outside of raids, minus say achievements or titles, then I would agree entirely with raids being introduced.

tl;dr- many MANY raiders have a sense of entitlement that is simply out of control. I, at least, don’t want to introduce that to this game.

Agree with this. To add to that, the one thing I hated about raids was it was exclusive content. The content of the raid should also have at the very least a 5 man version as well.

They have been selling skins that are exclusive to the Store since Guild Wars 1. This is something that has been known since before the game released. The only thing I can agree with you is the gambling involved. I would prefer to have the skins available for X amount of Gems. But other then that, I disagree having skins in the store exclusively is a bad idea.

ANet is actually, believe it or not, pretty lenient when it comes to in-game swearing in the map chat (they do not follow whispers, parties, guilds, etc. unless you are reported). You can, with some sense of responsibility and control, get away with swearing in the map chat if those swear words are not directed at someone else. If you say F You! then you are verbally attacking someone. If you are surprised and are suddenly killed by some players in WvW and say, “Oh snap!” then they likely will not suspend you for it.

That is actually not true. It does not matter if you direct it at another player or not.
All that matters is if another player reports you for it. If you type it in to map chat and someone else can read it, you can be reported. If your reported, there is a good chance you will be suspended, depending on what was said.

There are conflicting responses to this, then. Perhaps this should be made more clear, because some players here saying that you can get away with a word or two as long as it is not directed, while others are saying that one curse word can give you the 3 day warning.

If you can get suspended for saying a curse word that is not directed at anyone, and implies no racism or discrimination, then regardless of what the ToS says, that seems absolutely extreme. I myself don’t cuss in game, but I don’t care if anyone else says “Oh kitten!” because they fell off of a cliff and died, or was dominated by a zerg, etc. That’s such a silly thing to be suspended over.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/yxx3m/suspensions_for_offensive_names_and_inappropriate/

you’ll have to look through that thread to really see it, but Arenanet responded to someone stating they are gamers as well and understand a “slip of the tounge” and chances are they will not suspend for that.

actually the game is rated M and there is a warning on the box because of “bad language”. if someone got banned for swearing it was because of flaming others, not swearing as you talk.

Actually it is rated T in the US. Not sure about other places in the world, but in the US it is rated T for Teen.

The “suspension for 3 days” IS your warning. When you are suspended/banned from the game, it is usually accompanied with a reason as to why you were suspended/banned. First offences usually result in 1 – 3 days of suspension. Subsequent offences usually go 3 days to a week. I don’t know where ANet draws the line before a permanent ban, but I’m guessing they probably operate on a “3 strikes” policy if the guilty party is particularly abusive.

Well see.. most people expect to have at least 1 warning before any kind of suspension.

Would like to point out a time where Arenanet stated why someone was banned, and that it was not taken so lightly. And that they were banned more then once, and never for just 1 word. So OP, just follow the rules, it isn’t hard, but you will not get banned permanently if you do break them, the guy below in the quote got suspended 4 times, and he even linked to porn sites.

Gayle Gray

First, you were suspended not just this week, but in November, December, and twice in March.
You demand details. Here you go:
You chose a name disallowed by the Naming Policy.
You used offensive language. Multiple times.
You posted a link to an pornography website.
You propositioned players asking for things not discussed in polite conversation.
You were reported multiple times, and were suspended — not for “no reason” or for one of “the smallest reasons” — but because you deserved it.
There’s your mature, professional, and competent response. Now, consider the suspensions and the reasons for them (which I believe you well knew before demanding details). Reconsider your in-game (and on-forum) behavior. And conduct yourself more prudently in the future.

Being downed isn’t dead, you haven’t killed them. When they are down, you need to finish the job, and actually kill them. If your group of 10 can’t beat a group of 20 because none of you are finishing the job, then perhaps the group of 20 players are not bad, and you only lost because you were out numbered.

I would say a group that is helping each other back up after being wounded in battle, is actually a skilled group, because they are paying attention to each other to help each other.

Also in this rededit, Arenanet talks about suspensions, and later when someone asks if they do bans/suspension based on the number of reports, Arenanet says that it is false, that the number of reports has no effect on the outcome. Want to know why the story about the guy saying Hello is not true? Because they would have checked the chat logs, they do not just take the words of the reporters, they do in fact look for the proof, and when they see someone saying Hello and a bunch of people report that, Arenanet will see that person said hello and will not ban the person. That Hello story is completely false.

And yes, if you choose to not abide by the rules of the property owner, you also choose the consequences. Paying money to be on some one else’s property does not give you the right to disobey their rules, especially when you agree to those rules before entering.

When I was a teenager, my friends and I were kicked out of amusement parks for breaking rules, and guess what? We never got our money back ,and the amusement parks were not under any obligation ethically or legally to give us a refund.

Lol, you aren’t very good at comprehending words at all. I will try and make it as simple as I can but I doubt you will understand: The point is Arenanet does not care for their customers, In fact I think they enjoy trying to frustrate them as when other more professional companies treat their customers well. It’s a matter of professionalism. For example: On this game if you put in a ticket about some misc. problem, you’ll get a response 2-8 weeks later that is just an automated response that has nothing to do with what you were talking about. If you put a ticket in on WoW you get a response within a couple hours and it’s a real person that is there to help you and is generally caring about your frustration. Arenanet does not care for customers, and to me that is unprofessional. I even heard of this case on gw2 where this entire guild reported this 1 guy for saying “hello” and he was banned permanently, because “hello” is a reference to “hell” which is therefore racist against religion(according to arenanet). You can look it up if you don’t believe me but it is a real case, and if Arenanet really cared for that customer they would have said “guys.. this is ridiculous come on that guy paid us for this game.” But instead they just ban anyone that gets a good number of reports which any group of friends can do to troll someone.

again, reports with no actual proof. Seriously? Saying Hello? Seriously you are going to believe that? No wonder you feel the way you feel, if you believe beyond redicolous stories like that. I have some ocean front property in Arizona that I will sell to you for $200 /roll eyes..

Honestly people should be able to say whatever they want, if people are intimidated by words on a screen they should not be using the internet.

People should be allowed to enforce what ever rules they want for their own property. If people can’t abide by someone else’s rules, perhaps they should stay off that property.

So you are trying to justify people getting permanently banned without prior warning for saying 1 swear word after they just paid 60 dollars for this game? Lol. You’ve obviously never worked a real job that involved customers before.

they are not being permanently banned for saying 1 word, they are not even being suspended for 1 word. They are being suspended after multiple warnings.

Also, I have been working in customer service since I was 16 years old, and I am 35 years old, working with customers in their homes.

Actually I was suspended for 3 days for saying 1 word(a swear word), and I was not given a warning. I asked about warnings to support and they said they do not issue warnings.

You’ll have to excuse me for not believing you. For one, you stated Arenanet permanently banned for 1 word, yet here you are now stating that you were suspened for 3 days for 1 word. Which is it? Suspened or permanently banned? Also, like I said I have a friend who has a problem with profantity and lost 2 account in WoW because of profanity, and has not lost his account for profantity with Guild Wars 2, but only had been given warning before he was eventually suspended multiple times.

I never said “I” got permanently banned for 1 word, I was saying that other people did. Please learn to comprehend words before responding with insults. And it is a fact that I was never given a warning before being suspended for 3 days. You can look it up on the forums, there are literally thousands of cases of this happening everywhere with Arenanet.

You said that Arenanet permanently bans for using 1 word, yet you use 1 word and claim to be only suspended? And I have been on this forum since the beginning, and Thousands of cases is a very gross exaggeration. Using gross exaggerations doesn’t make your point even more stronger, it weakens it and makes you say anything really suspect. Arenenet themselves have stated before on this forum that they do not take bans and Suspensions lightly. Also will not trust what some forum users say, but I guarantee you that if someone was suspended or even banned, it was for a lot more then just 1 word, going by the personal experience of a friend of mine. Of course I don’t expect you to believe it, because again I am just some forum poster and could be lying.

But common sense will dictate that Arenanet will not suspend or ban someone for using 1 profanity word, there is much more then what other players are not reporting to us.

The filter has many issues and the filter is also not a license to swear.
If you swear and are reported, you will get suspended. Swear and get reported again, you will get suspended for a longer period. Continue to violate the TOS and you will lose your account. Your choice, but if you feel you MUST swear in an online game then there are other issues involved.

See this is the reason this game is so bitter to most people, the only community left in the game are people like you that run around reporting people 24/7 in Divinities Reach and never actually play the game. You guys get some kind of kick out of getting people suspended because you know Arenanet will ban any and everyone that gets reported even if it is for no reason at all.

EDIT: I also wanted to comment that this is one of the reasons WoW is far more successful than this game, you don’t see Blizzard running around banning thousands of accounts for saying 1 swear word. And people wonder why Arenanet will NEVER be NEARLY as successful as Blizzard, that is one of the reasons. And people that say “WoW is bad!!!”: that is irrelevant, go look at the sales charts to see which game is more successful. Guild Wars 2 went crazy in celebrating that they had sold 3 million copies, well congratulations Blizzard has sold more than 76.2 million copies and that is not even including their monthly subscription income. It is quite obvious which game is more successful, and I think it’s mostly because of the companies involved. Like I said, Arenanet does not care a single bit about any of their customers, they have your money, they will ban your account even for a simple 3 second laugh.

Arenanet doesn’t ban people for saying 1 word either. I have a friend who has a problem with swearing in games. He literally lost 2 accounts with Blizzard because he kept on being banned because of using profanity despite the warnings and suspensions he got. He also has been given warning and suspensions from Arenanet for using profantity, but has not lost his account, where as with Blizzard he would have already lost his account for how many warning and suspensions he has already been given by Arenanet.

Also, there are many reasons why Blizzard has sold so many games, and lots of it has to do with timing, and their already known branding of many many years. Industry experts in the past have stated that WoW is an anomaly, and the chances of that happening again is pretty much close to zero.

Anyways, highly doubt these people are being banned are being banned for using 1 profanity word 1 time. They got many warnings and suspensions before they got their account banned, but of course they will not admit that, they will just say “it was one time”.

- no need to release a client for every distributions out there, just do a “bin” or an “sh” file that everyone can install and let users figure out how to resolve dependencies (if there are any).
- less posts like this, more community sanity!

I don’t see any disadvantages, so just do it ! Let people be happy !

Disadvantage: The money needed to port, and then to support the Linux version. What ever they make in sales for having a Linux version may not justify the money spent on porting and supporting a Linux version.

And if you would use a keyboard somehow with a console, you basically have a computer with a flat screen.

You still usin a CRT over there.

I made no mention about CRT? And if you’re insulting me, then you’re quite pathetic.

You said a console version would be a computer with a flat screen.

Google “Flat Screen” and tell me what you see -.-

Any chance if Anet could port over the PC version of GW2 over to the Xbox One and PS4, seeing as both use X86-64 CPU’s and Xbox-1 even has windows8.

Would really max out servers in GW2 a bit if it mixed with PC users but the more populated the game the better.

Sony and Microsoft will not allow cross platform playing. Trion wanted to have all Sony, Microsfot and PC players to be playing on the same servers for Difiance, but Sony and Microsoft said no.

So if if they do port it to the consoles, there will be PS4 servers, and XB1 servers with no mixing between any of them or with the PC.

They can practice by playing the dungeon. Duh. Like you gget better at roller skating by rollerskating. But you don’t “win” at rollerskattig right at first, you practice.

Practicing on the easy mobs to the boss isn’t going to prepare you for the boss. Fighting the boss itself is where the practice needs to be at. Fighting the trash mobs for practice is like fighting a 10 year old to practice for a heavy weight boxing match.

Or to your analogy, what you want would be same as telling someone who is practicing at roll skating that they need to go back to learning crawling after they fall down a few times when practicing roller skating.

What’s wrong with that? When they get to the boss they can learn the boss.

Yes, let them learn on the boss, but adding more time is zero fun and is very much un needed, it doesn’t add anything to the game. The skilled players will be able to run it faster and it cost them little to no money to pass it. Those who are are learning, it will cost them, and the time is spent on the actually learning, and not on something that is nothing more then a time sink.

Oh, sorry, you got to many calculus problems wrong, here, you now have to go through all this 1st through 9th grade math homework before you can continue to practice calculus.

More stats choices for Dungeon Armors

Would not getting the gear appearance of the armor you want not be the incentive in the first place? Also the achievement for doing all the dungeons? I don’t understand why appearance and stats are still so connected. It is so backwards and outdated concept. Transmutation stones is a whole other ripoff. I love making my characters look the way I want, but being forced to do it through consumables that cost gems seems overboard to me.

Well they could have charged you $15 a month to play the game, which no doubt would have cost you more over time then it would take to buy the transmutation stones.

For little less then $15 a month you can transmute 35 items.

More stats choices for Dungeon Armors

I was thinking about dungeon armors lately, where some armors I like the looks of but doesn’t include that stats I need or want for my character. For example, I really like the looks of the noble heavy armor from CM dungeon, but none of the stat choices include soldier stats I want. Why does that have to be? Why not expand the choice of stats to include all the variety? Why just three sets?

Actually what they did is a good idea. It entices people to play more then 1 dungeon to get the look and stats they want, which in turn helps to have a pool of players for various dungeons to group up with.

Then you can use the transfer stones to transfer the look of one item onto the gear with the states you want.

It has been in development for a while, if testing has gone well it could be added as early as next month.

That seems rather specific. Any link to a developer stating as such?

You idea reminds me of raiding in other games. Fighting all those trash mobs are easy and do nothing to prepare you for the boss fight. But when you are learning the boss fight eventually all those mobs appear again and you have to fight them all over again to get back to practicing the boss fight, and those trash mobs did nothing to help you, and all it did was add more time and nothing else.

it is learning the boss fight itself that people need to practice at, and fighting all the stuff before it just adds more time and nothing else, doesn’t even prepare you for the boss fight at all.
