My Mesmer Build Extremely Strong. Enjoy!

This is almost exactly like the build i’ve been using since i unlocked Chrono. I’ve had very little trouble with any of HoT, LS or core.
My utilities are a bit different, and for weapons, i run sword/shield and scepter/focus. Use focus 4 to pull mobs together. With immob on focus 5, use it to freeze the group and hit scepter 3. Since the mobs are stacked, the beam will have cleave. Switch to sw/sh, hit sword 3 and swap then sword 2 and shield 5. There shouldn’t be much left.
Pre-chrono, i ran this build with duelist instead of chrono and sw/focus and sc/sw. Scepter 3 hits almost as hard as sword 2, even in a power build and the ripostes from the sc/sw blocks hit pretty hard, too. They also recharge very quickly.

Is buying a legendary for TP a viable option?

I’m currently saving to buy a legendary, too. I absolutely loath crafting, you are not alone in that.
I constructed Bifrost in year two. That was enough of that noise, for me. But, I’ve gotten the legendary bug again, so i’ve started saving. I’m having more fun farming as I play, than focusing on farming and crafting. I’ve a long way to go, and it is a bit slower, but I’m not in a hurry.
And i admit, i’ve never focused on making gold in any game, so my methods are probably not the most efficient.

Can we have Bards next expansion?

Sigh, i miss my Everquest bard. It was my favourite MMO character. The mechanic for the songs and instruments was very unique. I could usually keep 3 songs twisting. On a good day 4.
So much fun using my Blackfeather Wardrum to speed boost up to the speed of the games fastest mount. Or to use it to kite the giants in Ro and kill them with the beat. Or, when i wanted to explore without confrontation, to use my flute to turn invisible and/or to levitate.
Back when GW2 was coming out, I was ecstatic to hear about the minstrel class. Then, a little disappointed when it turned out to be the mesmer. But, not too disappointed as I main mesmer, along with ranger.
I think Minstrel has the potential for a lot of fun.

I kind of like the effect. I gave my asura the scarred face, these ‘cataract’ eyes and the pirate arm. Now it looks like he lost his arm and eye sight trying to keep his head from getting split open during a brutal fight.
Also allows him to play the blind wizard trope.

Gerent event, in its current state is poisonous.

In one squad I had joined, on this past saturday, the commander told me to ping my armor and equipment. I asked why and was promptly booted from the squad and asked to taxi to a different server so “people who were qualified to play” could be taxied in .

What changed to make people act this way? I don’t remember Ever encountering that bad of an attitude, before, in GW2.

I’m in a small family guild. We aren’t mad about not getting a hall. That’s no big deal. But all the amenities we worked so hard for, harder than a bigger guild, like banners and weaponsmith, have been taken away. We would have been happy if Anet lets us keep what we unlocked and frozen all future progress until a guild hall was obtained.. It really stings because we got our weaponsmith and was in the progress of building it when HoT launched..
For us, its not that we don’t get a hall, its about all of our progress and work being erased..
It happened once before, when the Merit was introduced. Some things we had unlocked were taken away and we had to re-earn them. I believe it’s very wrong

Which race will your Revenant be?

Small wall of text, sorry/

Originally, I was going to run my Rev from 1 to 80 by playing core, but I like to have stories about my characters in my head when i create them. Lore-wise, running the core material first doesn’t work.
I’m now thinking: When Rytlock opened the breach in Ascalon, it also opened breaches in other areas, as well, that had connections to the Foefire. My rev was caught in one of those breaches.
When he gets expelled, he will have no memory of his past life. All he’ll have is his Revenant skills. To simulate this, I plan on leveling him with tomes and playing HoT first.
This will simulate him being dumped into the Mordie situation and having a bunch of strange people talking to him like he is supposed to know them. Then, at my leisure, i will play the core content with him. They will be flashbacks as his memory starts to piece together.
Whatever happened to him in the Mists, erased his memory. It so completely overwrote his previous profession that. even in his flashbacks, he only remembers the battles as being accomplished with his rev skills.
The only massive weak spot i can’t cover in this story is the time between Rytlock being lost and his return during HoT. I picture his fall into the breach to have been the trigger for other revenants to get sucked in and created too. But, also Rytlock’s escape is what allows others to leave the Mists. That means the LS chapters, after he disappears, would not have been experienced by my character.
As for race. I have 11 characters and only one is human, so maybe i’ll make another human to break up the pattern.

Again, sorry for the wall of text.

Do you thnk Anet will add a button to give us control over when Heart of Thorns will download to our computers?

I don’t mind waiting till saturday or sunday to download my pre-purchased copy, but i want to play the Halloween material Friday night. I’m afraid that there will so many people downloading an HoT/Halloween combo download that there will be login errors due to the volume of people logging in. I’d rather not miss 2 or 3 days of Halloween because i have to wait my turn to download HoT in the same information transfer.

Changing race - a different approach?

I know its a tired subject, but i didnt’ find anything when i searched.

What about an Endless Tonic for each race?

Your characters gender and armor type would stay the same, but the rest would be random generation of features based on the racial tonic (such as Endless Charr Tonic, or Endless Human tonic). Like the Selfish/Selfless tonics, it would last until you zone, are part of a cutscene such as personal story or living story, or cancel it.
It would be way for players to change there racial skin without effecting their PS or any other racially dependent aspect of the game. Afterall, we do have Watchknight tonic. All that tonic effects it the character’s appearance and nothing else. You can even conduct normal combat while using the WK tonic.

Just a thought.

I know i should not blame people for playing to win. I truly don’t mean to. That is my own idealism creeping into my thought process.

I started this thread, as in the original post, just to say thanks for those that didn’t tag and run and leave a handful of us fighting scaled up events. And to say shame on Anet for this bad design. And shame that support actions don’t seem to count as participation, only dps.

Maybe i’m dating myself, but i remember when the game play was the reward and anything in addition to that was a bonus. Like playing a pinball machine and finding out from the owner you broke the record as he hands you a free pizza.

Seems no one wants to do anything unless the get something for it. Even real world charities seem to have to bribe people to help out by giving them tshirts or some other bit of swag.

Welcome to the new Ancient Rome folks. It’s gonna fall hard again.

sorry. just finished another run of the event and someone posted their tag and camp strategy is better than the ‘losers’ who get minimum rewards. So i’m feeling a bit cynical and cranky.

This is mostly a thank you to the folks who aren’t running, tagging then afk’ing.

I only get 5 blooms per event map because i stay until the infestation site is clear. I rez the fallen and build the catapults. Many times i have arrived at an infestation to see 30 people. After a few seconds of fighting , i look around and see only a few of us left. On some occasions only me, to fight the horde at that battle.

I know i could run and tag , but it seems wrong. It seems motivated by greed. I prefer to play the event as it was intended.

I want to thank those people who have helped me build, who have stayed when the zerg ran off and who have rezzed Me when I have fallen. We don’t get blooms for playing support, but i hope our efforts are appreciated. I know i appreciate it.

Those of you reading this, Thank You.

as a snarky after note: I wonder how many taggers and afkers are buying the selfless potion.

Trahearne first Reaper?

I was doing the personal story on an alt and noticed Trahearne throwing smokey energy bolts that looked and sounded like necro staff #1 attacks. Later he is given Caledbolg, a greatsword. I know his Gs attacks aren’t the same as a Reapers, but prototypes usually differ from production models. Am I off base?

Mine was a combo platter..
I’ve put i about 3000 hours since launch and have gotten maybe 25 exotic drops. I was born under a bad RNG.
That said – In the wildest bit of kitten-in-my-pants-luck, Spark dropped for me from a Silverwastes embroidered champ bag, 4 days ago. I then sold it on the TP and bought the precursor i wanted. A few more clovers and i will have my first and probably only legendary.

Is anyone still seriously playing Necro?

in Necromancer

Posted by: milo.7198

milo.7198

After spending the first year playing around with all the classes, i’ve spent the last 2 maining my necro. I still maintain it as my main character.

I pvp, wvw and pve. I guess if i was a number cruncher, i would be distressed by the entire game. Every class forum is screaming about dps nerfs and broken synergies. All the other forums are complaining about how the other classes do this and that better and poor us. I have an opinion that, but not real answers.

I still have fun with my necro. I plan on continuing to use my necro as my main character. For me it is still fun. I haven’t noticed that much of a difference it kill time for my build and the way i play it.

Maybe i like being an underdog, overcoming the odds and triumphing while having less than others. Maybe I’m just a glutton for punishment. I Do know this, I feel a lot better when content is challenging and i beat it, whether vs computer ai or real person. I still find it challenging on my necro.

My build is not significantly different from pre-patch. No, it doesn’t kill as fast as everyone else. I’m ok with that. The class was designed to defeat opponents by whittling them down. It takes more patience and sometimes more skill to play that way and it is not for everyone. I admit, it really doesn’t fit with dps heavy system that exists in GW, but it is what it is. All we can do is give feed back to the devs and hope they can iron it out, or stop playing.

That being said, I have noticed that in the world boss fights and other such huge events, i cannot seem to tag mobs hard enough, a lot of the time, to get loot drops anymore. Or if i do, they are usually silver rewards. In small groups, 20 or less, i get gold every time.

If you are still reading this, thank you for your patience. That is my Opinion on the situation. I’m not a hardcore number cruncher. I play this game for fun. For the way i play, it is still fun. EVERYONE will have different experiences and desires for and from the game. These are just mine.

And yes, I still seriously play my necro. Out of all the professions available to play, so far, it fits my play style the best and i have the most fun with it.

my 2 cents.

one toon, multiple classes

Well, further restrictions would be, you can’t get another profession until you are level 80 and completed personal story through Zhaitan defeat. That could also open it up to changing races as well, a racial makeover kit that could be sold. Personal story would have to be complete, and it wouldn’t reset with new appearance and/or profession. Racial makeover would also allow people who have played 50 levels of say, charr, and decided they like the class but the race is too large. Then they wouldn’t have to replay those 50 levels.
Shouldn’t be any more difficult than allowing people to have interchangeable craft skills. And, as i stated in my op, you would still pay character slot costs to get the choice of a character slot or an additional class for an existing character. It would not be free. Please read carefully. And , character slots are already a gem store item.

As for GW1: I seem to remember you could change your secondary, but not your primary. You had to go to a trainer and pay a fee. This wouldn’t be terribly different.

I realize that in some ways it is a bit redundant. Before, when skins and other fun things were soul bound it felt more necessary. With the tomes of knowledge, in sufficient quantities, if you want to wipe a toon cause you hate the race but like the class, its easy. but any crafting you’ve built on that toon, is nullified. and any decent equipment, barring legendaries, will undoubtable be soulbound and unusable if you reroll.

Again, I know it will never happen, but a bit of thinking out loud and a bit of a wish.

Goofy thought, but… I like the look of my main, but sometimes get tired of playing necro. What does everyone think about Anet offering the option of instead of a character slot, it gives you the option of character slot OR adding a class to an existing toon. You would still have to level it like a new character but you could keep your existing look, your name and your craft skills. When you want to change classes, it would have to be in town or maybe a specific merchant. Have it cost a gold or something, like when you change craft skills. Health, armor, weapon damage, would all still scale down in the lower level zones, and your skills would be at the level of your new class. So you wouldn’t be crushing the zone any worse than a new character.

Just something on my wishlist. I know it seems a bit redundant, but, like i said, i like my look and my name, just like a change of skills once in a while.

Revert the Consume Condition changes!

Someone may have pointed this out. If i’m duplicating, i’m sorry. i only read the front half of the thread. The replies seem to be focusing on PvP. I feel bad for the brand new player in PvE. Your starting heal is Consume C. You start with an ax and the second weapons slot doesn’t open ‘til when? level 5 ? And you can’t even trait against it until level 10? We’ve all been in fights where we bite off more than we can chew.. This poor new player is gonna hit CC in a bad fight and get puddled. Necro population, due to that frustration alone, will see a severe drop..
My main is a sylvari necro. Healing seed is the next best option in my opinion, but that is based solely on recovering health, not condi control. Non-sylvari don’t have that option. A class should not have to trait or make weapons choices based on surviving its own heal spell.
