What's the point of playing this game?

I left gw2 for a while after feeling burned out from the “grind.” Started playing BDO instead. I can now say I’m back in gw2 and happy for it. If nothing else, in GW2, after “grinding” towards a goal, atleast there isn’t an RNG roll at the end that could forfeit all the time you spent grinding.

Can We Disable Gliders?

psyckos.6893

Which JP(s) does this happen to you in? Perhaps it would be easier to add those JP’s to the no fly zones that disable your glider.

If you fall to your death, it’s no different than any other time you fell to your death in a JP prior to gliders, so that counter is moot.

Enough with poison.

Managed to complete this with only crafting 2 weapons (pistol and shield). One of the perks to having a problem when it comes to alts. Had to craft those 2 because I only had 1 engi.

That said, it did burn me out a bit, so I haven’t gone back to AB to work on the second part of the collection to get the ascended version of the backplate yet.

Troll Merchants

psyckos.6893

I am not sure how old this problem is in PVP but I am seeing it there too now. That is enemy mesmers placing portals on your downed allies so it makes it harder to res them.

Surely in PvP we should not see the use portal option for the enemy team right?

Are you sure your dead teammate wasn’t the mesmer that dropped the portal as an escape and just died prior to using it, sabotaging his own rez?

As for the other instances, trolls suck. That said, does auto-loot (through tyrian masteries) work on the chests? I thought it did, but maybe I was just imagining it.

Not so secret jp launch pads

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

psyckos.6893

The alts I use make no difference now, since HoT. My alts that do have the passive speed boost travel as far as my “slow” alts. Prior to HoT, the alts that had the passive speed boosts (again, not swiftness or something granted from a skill use) would make it just a bit further. Example would be the launch up to the large pipe before the steam vent section. My “faster” alts could make it to the large pipe without slipping down into the space between the large pipe and small pipe like the “slow” alts do. Now, all of them slip down there.

I’m not complaining. The adjustment to it was simple. I am just curious because it was noticeable to me after running it so many times.

I understand that change, but I don’t see how a passive 25% speed increase could get lumped into that. Also, if I’m not mistaken, that swiftness/quickness change happened recently, not at HoT launch, when I initially noticed the difference.

I am one of the crazy few that actually enjoys the not so secret jp. Prior to the HoT release, I would run it atleast once a day. I always had some kind of movement speed increase on my characters via travelers runes, traits, signets, etc. Since the release of HoT, I’m finding my jumps from the launch pads to be lacking in distance. I didn’t really pay attention to it since I was spending more time with the new content. It seems like my movement speed increase no longer applies while in the air ONLY after using a launchpad. Normal jumps still have the small boost to distance. Is this a bug or working as intended?

I wanted to see if anyone else that was used to doing that jp with some form of speed boost has noticed the same thing.

What if utility skills could replace elites

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I like this idea quite a bit. Have the heal skill locked to it’s position, but set the remaining skills as open to any utility with a max of 1 elite. If it’s a balance issue because a build becomes too OP when excluding an elite skill, kinda sounds like elite’s aren’t really all that elite and should be looked at.

I’m still hoping they add a glider-less glider skin so you can fly around like when you use the aviator memory box, including airplane sound effects. Right now, I have to hope the rendering bug happens in VB and make the noises myself.

Any reason to use non berserk gear (Non WvW)?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: psyckos.6893

psyckos.6893

For practice maybe? For classes or new builds that I’m not too familiar, I like to add a little toughness and/or vitality. It makes the fight take longer, but allows me to learn skill rotations and how to react to different situations. Zerk gear tends to shorten fights, with the enemy or myself dying too fast to learn anything that would help in a tougher fight. As I get more comfortable with the build/class , I change to a more offensive stat combo

Ugh! I thought I was being courteous and helping the rest of the group when I mess up, go full dead and wp out. I want the thing that killed me to die, so I want the people that are still alive hitting it, seeking revenge for killing me. If, by the grand intervention of those wonderful people that placed a waypoint for me to revive myself, I can get back to claim my own revenge, life is good.

You may never wp out, but I will never rez you when you go full dead (unless the fight is over). It’s not out of spite. I’m trying to avenge you. If you want to avenge yourself, you know how.

That said, I realized something. OP has been brutally killed multiple times in the thread, but he keeps coming back to fight. By his/her logic, does that mean he/she is exploiting the forums?

Who hates this game now because of HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I’m not a fan of Tangled Depths (so I don’t stick around there long).

I can do without some of the mini-games (so I do without them).

I get upset with myself when I can only kill 24 out of the 40 pocket raptors that swarm me after I only spotted 6 initially, but that’s happened more than a few times when I was trying to get wvw map completion prior to the change and a zerg rolled over me so /shrug. Ok that’s not entirely shrug worthy. Getting killed by something that’s half the size of the smallest asuran is embarrassing no matter how many there are.

I’m too casual to solo the Champion of Balth in Auric Basin….haha.

To sum it up, no, I don’t hate the game now. There’s certain aspects I’m not a fan of, but I can find other things in-game to do to take my mind off of the really real world for a few hours. Some in HoT. Some in core Tyria.

This is not even remotely close to an exploit. What you’re saying is akin to calling a bunker build that does almost no damage an exploit because it is very hard to kill. Every build choice comes with sacrifices and benefits. For fast kills, you sacrifice defensive capabilities. For high defensive capabilities, you sacrifice fast kills. For a hybrid, you sacrifice a little of both survivability and dps.

Kind of begs the question why adding flying .. sorry, gliding .. to Tyria so many invisible walls had to be erected to restrict it to avoid ‘exploits’, to use Anet’s own word.

It’s funny…I haven’t ran into any invisible walls as of yet. Perhaps it’s because I’m gliding and not trying to break the maps. Give it a shot.

That said, this has nothing to do with the OP’s issues or complaints. Back to the topic, I haven’t experienced the OP’s issues either, but I focused on leveling my newest alt via exploring so the chance is there that my personal story could be bugged. We shall see. It won’t make me quit either way. I’ll find something else to do in game

A Fix For Broken Armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: psyckos.6893

OP,
If you want to up the difficulty and penalty of dying, you (personally, because who else would choose to do this by default) could either:

A. Respawn at a waypoint, unequip your damaged piece of armor and delete it. Salvaging and recovering mats, runes and infusions on such flawed armor would not be realistic.

B. Logout to character select and delete that fatally flawed character and start over.

I’m speaking for myself here, but I would rather pay the small fee to wp and then pay nothing to repair my armor besides my time. The change/removal of repair fees is in my top 10 favorite changes.

Forum community's view on instrument macros?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: psyckos.6893

psyckos.6893

I personally use macro’s for playing instruments in game. I like being in-game and unwinding after work and there are a few songs on the harp that take the edge off. I try to stay out of heavy traffic areas and when someone does stop to listen, I tell them that I did not play that…someone else more dedicated than I took the time to record the macro after playing and tweaking it for days or weeks. I’ve been tipped gold a few times now and have promptly returned it.

As for others using it, I will sit and listen to people playing instruments without a care if they are playing it or if it’s a macro. It adds some variety to the typical soundtrack and it feels like a bonus to me when I get to hear something new. If someone is playing it themselves, I have a ton of respect for them. If they use a macro, thanks for the song.

In regards to macro use in other aspects of the game, if there is no impact (reward for the user or limiting of reward for others around), I am ok with it. I’m not sure what macro used in the game outside of playing instruments would fall into that category.

I don’t use this to further myself in the game or hurt anyone else’s playing experience.

Too much Single-Player content

in Living World

Posted by: psyckos.6893

psyckos.6893

Don’t take this the wrong way as I’m all for everyone playing the way they want to play, but if your guild ONLY does dungeons, you can join up to 4 other guilds that branch out, thus widening your options. The only thing that would cause problems is if one or more of them require 100% rep. If you join, for example, a guild that prefers open world content, you can do some exploring with the new guild after your daily dungeon runs with your primary guild. Perhaps some in that new guild always wanted to try dungeons but didn’t want to PUG, you can bring them along on a dungeon run with your primary guild and show them the ropes (exactly how I started running dungeons….I still don’t PUG though). Others from the new guild hear how fun they were and join in on a later run. Your guilds are now mingling together. Some from your primary guild start running open world content with some of your new guildmates. Oh the possibilities!

Instead of asking to change something that a lot of people asked for and are happy with so that it matches what you and your guild are used to or prefer, go out and meet some more people. Regardless what some on the forums say, there’s no shortage of people and there’s quite a bit to see and do.

player housing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: psyckos.6893

psyckos.6893

In a land full of elder dragons and their minions, I don’t really know if I would like to spend the gold and materials on a house that could easily get wiped out. Making them out of Bloodstone Dust is a decent idea, but is Bloodstone Dust water soluble? It’s fine in a bank, bag or locked chest, but out in the elements, who knows? Could be like building your house out of sand on the beach during low tide.

Seriously, I like and miss player housing from other games, but at this point, in this game, I don’t think it’s needed. I don’t think we should have a place that feels perfectly safe in Tyria. I was impressed with how quickly Anet destroyed a major city that was the hub for all major cities. It’s being rebuilt slowly, but that story arc impressed me for what it was. A statement that nothing is safe and secure. BotFW was the exclamation point.

At least your legendaries are account bound and you can change stats on the fly. Try 2 soulbound Infinite Lights or any expensive soulbound item you may have 2 of.

Why nerf mesmers anymore?

in Profession Balance

Posted by: psyckos.6893

psyckos.6893

It wasn’t a nerf, it was a bug fix.

Which leads to the question: why was the skill designed so poorly in the first place? Wouldn’t it make more sense for it to teleport both the clone AND the Mesmer to the target and allow you to hit the button a second time to teleport back to the original location?

Doesn’t that make sense for a Mesmer? You just had two guys teleport into your face… which one is the real Mesmer and which one is the clone?

Wouldn’t be a bad idea if your target didn’t just cleave both you and your clone. That being said, I have 2 different mesmer builds that both use sword main hand. IMO, it was a bug fix for a skill that was broken in more ways than just that 1. I can’t tell you how many times the clone would “leap” towards the target but stop halfway, making the position swap useless since you were still out of melee range. When it actually did make it to the target, I would swap and BF. I really never used it as another blink. Guess I was doing it wrong.

The way I typically use it is to generate any phantasm or clone, hit illusionary leap, swap almost immediately, dodge towards my target creating the third clone/phant and shatter. Not ideal, but that still works for me since the illusionary leap clone isn’t up long enough to get killed. It’s fun to follow immediately with blink or decoy.

I would love if they would make it so you teleport to your target yourself and create a clone at your original location. Press the button again within a few seconds and swap places with the clone that way. Much more hit and run style compared to the current run and get hit.

[Edit] Another thread reminded me of the MHS #2 skill from beta called Leap (that was replaced with blurred frenzy). Very close to what I was asking for in the previous paragraph without the ability to swap places with the clone. I’ll take that over iLeap anyday. OMG an actual gap closer for a mesmer!!!!

Gods, Logan is so annoying…

I want him to be replaced by somebody else so he can go back to being the kitten leather wearing warhammer wielding trapper he was in the beginning of Destiny’s Edge. I loved him so much until the Queen came into the picture.

THANK YOU! That’s exactly how I feel! He was actually pretty cool, until… that happened. Seriously, the first words he muttered when she appeared was, “she’s… _beautiful,” then started acting like a love-sick moron all the time. After that, it was “my queen” this and “I’m yours forever” that. It didn’t help that Jennah basically paraded him around saying, “check it fools, this guys my b****, come at me!” I basically lost all respect for him the minute he when full tool like that. I don’t blame Rytlock for wanting to gut him where he stands.

Or they could swap bloodstone dust and obi shard drops. Everything that gives 3-5 bloodstone now gives you 3-5 obi shards. Bloodstone dust can only be acquired by karma, fractal relics and laurels. I’d say our requests are equally (im)possible….but at least people would like mine for a week or 2.

Sold the remaining ones back to the TP and hyperventilated for a few minutes. My main reason for trying it again today (gambled with about 300G total…still surprising lucky), was because there was only 3 available on the TP, so I convinced myself that one was due to come out of the MF. Not going to sell it though. I’ve been working on Twilight for a while now.
