[Suggestion] Slimmer male Norn, please!

But we already have that, its called Human

Well, you either make a race more “bulky” looking in general, for both male and female versions, or you at least offer the option to allow male characters to look as “super model” as their female counterparts.

I don’t think that yeti-sized feet, strangely shaped muscles and a general Neaderthal look (body-wise) should be reserved for only one gender… that makes no sense from a genetic point of view, especially since Norn boys look as “normal” as their girls.

@JTGuevara, @Ider, @CaptainVanguard: Thank you so much for your posts! They expressed perfectly what is in my heart regarding the current season and GW2’s development in general.

Let me quote my favorite paragraph as a plea to the devs:

Post Expansion 2 and Season 3 should focus heavily on discovery, new things, the discovery of things we have NEVER seen before and peoples we have never MET in our existance. Peoples with their own personal problems, a humbler expansion with just as much threat and evil could be more interesting, it worked for a certain other MMO a few years ago that involved pandas so it could easily work for GW2.

My Honest Feedback: GW2 could be epic

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ashantara.8731

tl;dr

Very “mature” contribution to the topic. Kids these days seem to have zero patience.

Anyway, back on track. I agree that the fact that roles have been completely abolished for GW2, then somewhat gradually re-introduced under a guise (for instance Elementalist healer), is posing a problem and much dismay.

The reason GW2 doesn’t have at least a loose role-structure is the reason why I quit soon after release (and many of my former GW1 buddies as well, who have not returned to date) and then didn’t touch the game for more than four years. I was still mentally stuck in the GW1 profession structure (with class combinations etc.) and therefore rejected GW2.

Now, obviously, after a long time, I made peace with the fact that there were no more specified profession roles and class combinations. I started enjoying the game for what it was. Then came HoT and with it the Druid and Raids, the latter with the need for a healer/support class. That’s when I was reminded of my initial criticism of the game. I didn’t (and still don’t) understand why ArenaNet paddled back, once realizing that healer support makes sense, and thus had to pervert other professions into healer roles instead of having a Monk class in the game to begin with. Monks can be damage dealers (smiter, anyone?) as well as healers, so there was no need to complete deny them their existance in GW2. I refuse to pervert my Ranger into a healer role, sorry.

GW1 was good for a reason, and that reason was having roles, regardless of how much better, diverse and more exciting GW2 is in its movement mechanics, content etc. So, bottom line: I agree with many on here that roles are needed to a certain extent, and the solution is not to force professions into roles they weren’t meant for.

P.S. Also, yes, PvE content for small groups in terms of dungeons is sorely being ignored (diminishing the rewards for them didn’t help either). And no, Fractals and Dungeons are not the same thing, for a variety of reasons — one being that Fractals require Agony Resistance which is hard to acquire for casual players (and once you have it you need to stick to that one character, which makes it a very boring experience in the long run), another being that Fractals are shorter and feel repetitive quickly. So, firing the Dungeon team was not a smart move, I would have loved to see new Dungeons pop up with new content instead of Raids.

Norn head size too small

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

There is something that has been bothering me ever since the release of GW2: the head size of any Norn characters compared to their stature.

Even when you select the maximum size, the head still looks like it has been glued to a body that doesn’t belong to it.

Female Norn
You have to select the slimmest body, even though it might look anorexic and not fit for a muscular fighter race, because if you pick a normal or stronger stature the head looks as described above. Hence, all your female Norn end up looking like some sort of Barbie clone. I had to make my female Norn warrior male so that I wouldn’t have to walk around with an anorexic barbie doll. Not pleased.

Male Norn
All have bully body shapes, with hyperdimensional muscles and feet that would make a yeti proud. Since one cannot pick a slimmer body shape, you would expect that you could at least adjust the head size to not look completely ridiculous on that body. But, again, not possible. The maximum head size is still too small for that brawny body.

Please, ArenaNet, do something about it. How hard can it be to add more body options or to increase the maximum possible head size?

Thanks for reading.

[Suggestion] Natural hairstyles for humans

Ashantara.8731

I was imagining from experience of what has been referred to as natural growing up:

The people, mostly white, pseudo-Rastafarian types that don’t shave, bathe, or wash their hair.

They call it natural. It is gross and smells.

Agreed, but that’s a different story and not related to what this thread is about.

Females in general (regardless of the race you pick) get treated a lot different than male characters in the game:

[…]

Yeah. For female characters, the focus on everything from gear to faces is overwhelmingly on being cutesy-wutesy and sexy-hexy, and apparently (but probably unsurprisingly) natural black hair doesn’t fit the bill.

Exactly (I wish they did something about the aspects I listed).

I want more traditional styles in hair and beards, and by “traditional” I don’t mean white western standards only, but all cultures present on our world. I really don’t care for styles that look ultra-modern or even cyberpunk.

(Then again, I am having general issues with the game, which IMO was supposed to be classic fantasy, when it strays off into genre that don’t mix well with it, including armor and weapons designs etc. as well.)

Am I wasting xp before unlocking masteries?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

I’ve got a level 80 character finishing up season two, but I’ve noticed that my xp bar is “stuck” on full. After looking into the issue, I see now that post-80 levels don’t give you skill points anymore, but they give you mastery points.

That is not correct. The XP bar is stuck because you are expected to level Masteries with your XP instead. It is a stupid system: it will stay locked/stuck until you have all Masteries maxed out. After that, you will continue to receive XP normally again (i.e., receiving one Spirit Shard upon each level-up).

Mastery Points, however, are not provided by leveling up. You need to obtain them either per achievements, certain story missions, or by communing with those located on HoT maps (including Living World Season 3).

The candy cane bars are NOT a problem, and I am telling you: the left path is easiest to do! Also, STOP COUNTING your steps! That’s insane, as it’ll only stress you out — the opposite of what I wrote in my list of helpful recipes.

If you approach JPs with that negative attitude and that high of a stress level, you will never master the art. All of us started out as noobs, but you have to practice or else you will always shy away from them and fail the few times you decide to give it a try.

I suggest you do the JP completionist achievement. That’s the best practice I can recommend. Good luck.

Except weapons got to be shrinked or it’ll clip through the ground.

That’s what I meant by “imperfectly” scaled. They shrinked the size of everything in a way that weapons look smaller when worn opposed to when held, yet they didn’t adjust the focal point of where the item is attached to the character’s body, which would have been a must-do IMO since Asura have shorter legs (in proportion to their bodies) — so some weapons tend to stick in the ground when holstered (or even when held).

They should have made adjustments for each weapon individually instead of going for an easy, imperfect solution.

I liked them in the main story campaign, an interesting new peaceful race that abhors anger and battles with it as a “dark” side, then being caught in the developments in the world and forced to take action, getting out of their shelter cocoons.

I then enjoyed how they were developed in HoT (you see a Quaggan leading a strike force during an event chain who has learnt to say “I” instead of “quaggan”).

However, Season 3 has reduced them to an annoyingly brainless “cutsie” race. Their comments make me want to bash my head against the wall and their balloon-like bodies make me want to grab a needle and make them pop. Quaggan very unhappy.

Why is Common Clothing a tonic?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ashantara.8731

TBH clothing tonics were a bad move all around. They changed town clothes into tonics in the same update that added outfits and the wardrobe. It makes no sense. They should have made all town clothes into outfits.

Yes, I agree. They should make all the clothing tonics into outfits instead, especially since we have outfits like the Jungle Explorer etc. that are totally out-of-character as no one dresses like that in the world of Tyria(1), and that goes for some skins as well (Aviator Sunglasses, for instance).

1) Then again, they have introduced a lot of futuristic, alien-looking skins this past year that would fit in a sci-fi MMO but not into GW, like the Dominator Weapons, or the upcoming Legendary Armor sets.

[Suggestion] Facial Expressions=more Emotes!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I am currently playing through yet another run of a personal story (to date still my favorite content in GW2), and I am enjoying the dialogue cutscenes so much! Mostly for the fact that we see a variety of facial expressions that we are no longer getting to see in newer content.

Therefore, I suggest the missing facial expressions to be added as additional emotes:

  • frown /frown
  • raise eyebrows /skeptic
  • smirk /smirk
  • smile /smile
  • look sad /sad
  • look angry /angry

Pretty please?

P.S. Some might say, “But we already have emotes displaying these emotions!” Well, yes, but they do not include these specific expressions (also without gestures), so why not have them, too?

Review on HoT (including criticism)

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

So…

I finished the HoT expansion the other day, although I still have to finish my full exploration of two maps. But there are many things that have been bugging me and I would like to share them in the hopes that the makers of the next expansion will take them to heart.

First of all, the storyline was too short but still very exciting and fun to play, even though the dialogues seem to have been targeted at young teens, as they were extremely immature and shallow (just cheeky, cheesy, presumably “cool” phrases without anything significant to say or contribute to the story) and often made me wish I had a Skip option (which was never the case in the main campaign or in LWS2).

The maps: Extremely hard to navigate, some places took me forever to reach, which often ended up in frustration and subdued aggression, to be honest. You can barely see the updrafts in higher regions due to clouds and fog and smoke, so you were often navigating blindly and missed the updrafts you had in mind to use and fell all the way back down and had to restart. Navigating in higher regions was the biggest pain in the behind in HoT. It left the impression that this was done on purpose to keep players longer on a single map since the maps per se don’t have much content to offer apart from their highly repetitive events.

Speaking of events: You are forced to do them, because you are more or less forced to level certain Masteries or else you can’t proceed in the storyline (or into certain regions due to a lack of other transportation means). It kept you dragging along and added to the ever rising level of annoyance that was exploring HoT, in spite of the many beautiful locations that had me in awe. You just don’t have the time nor nerve to enjoy the beauty because you are too busy trying to navigate through that madness and reaching your next target location somehow.

I truly hope the next expansion will be more fun in regard of visibility (less effects that block your view, including debris) as well as design and layout logic (some points of interest were nearly impossible to reach and it was no fun attempting the crazy climb or glide a million times). Also, I also hope the person(s) responsible for the script will come up with less childish dialogues.

Thanks for reading.

All the dialogue used in the trailers can be found one on one in the respective story missions. The same goes for facial expressions, they just look more cinematic in the trailers due to camera zoom and angle — that’s why it’s called a cinematic.

Unintentionally funny NPC names

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

It’s a fact that ArenaNet never checks whether specific names (like most of the Norn names, for instance) are spelled and pronounced correctly in the original English version. But I have also noticed that they seem to have a tendency not to check whether made-up names might actually have a (funny) meaning in other languages.

I have come across quite a few throughout the history of GW that made me crack up, because — pronounced in German — they actually had a certainly unintended meaning.

Here are my five favorites from GW2:

  • Eitel: eitel = vain
  • Geileis: geil = h*rny, Eis = ice
  • Harschaf: Haar = hair, Schaf = sheep; haarscharf = by a hair’s breadth
  • Kakifein: Kaki = khaki, fein = elegant; kackfein = (vulgar expression for) posh
  • Kakkilak: Kacke = poo, Lack = varnish

Have you encountered any in your language?

The same.

I agree with you on – I think GW2 has long since lost its sense of identity when it comes to aesthetics and has succumbed to a much more wacky and cartoony style than even its predecssor.

This is especially true. I have criticized it myself for a long time. Either we get completely silly items (like the legendary candelabra or those “hats”) that fit the increasingly childish tone of the game (dialogue etc.), or we get armor and weapon sets that look like out of some sci-fi movie, but certainly don’t fit a classic fantasy setting. Awful.

The last really good item in the Gem Store was the Mercenary Backpack, the last good armor or weapon set… well, I don’t even recall.

The problem is how do PvE players find out this info in-game (not in a raid which not everyone plays):

-Who is the White Mantle?
-Who are the Mursaat?
-Who is Lazarus?
Etc.

By doing lots of online research — the GW1 and GW2 wikis should be of help here.

Don’t get me wrong – I think that the basic LW concept is great as a way to keep an ageing game fresh – far better than only giving people new bits of map to go to and do more of the same. But it needs a coherent story plotted way ahead, that doesn’t just drop major threads with no more than a whimper because they’re “done with” and it’s time to move on to the next one.

I believe this paragraph sums it up nicely. The writing has grown increasingly amateurish, in coherence of content and quality of wording, and I think it is time for ArenaNet to hire a professional writer to fix this mess.

But we already have that, its called Human

that makes no sense from a genetic point of view, especially since Norn boys look as “normal” as their girls.

It totally can make sense, puberty and other hormonal changes can theoretically cause the shape of growing bodies to change dramatically. It’s a stretch in this case, but making statements like this just makes it obvious you know jack kitten about genetics.

Look. No need to insult me for not being a biologist. The last time I was confronted with the basics of genetics, it was in high school about a quarter of a century ago.

Still, I doubt it is very “realistic” for a whole humanoid race to have males look that far off from their female counter-parts, especially when they look 100% identical before puberty. And in particular since all other humanoid races on Tyria sport similar characteristics between their two genders. (And frankly, I have traveled the real world quite a bit and have never spotted any such grave physiological differences between men and women in any of the corners of our beautiful planet, either. Characteristics like basic bone structure, height etc. are usually being shared physiological characteristics for the respective region.)

I am quite aware of the term’s medieval roots designating a musician, but we don’t live in medieval times. That word means something else to many people today.

Only if you live in America. In Europe, it’s part of our cultural heritage.

Skimpy armor for male characters

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

I don’t like skimpy armor for my female characters but I use them because it severely limits my choice of armor available to me if I am too picky.

It’s the reason why, as a female player (and no, I am not into men btw ), I play mostly male characters. The armor choices for females are just awfully sexist or overly “femme” (which doesn’t fit an adventurer)!

Also, the posture, i.e. the way female characters walk, sit and even stand, is ridiculous (and makes me want to call a chiropractor). I can’t take them seriously as heroines.

I have noticed that male armor always covers a majority of the characters body, a look I wish I had more of an option to work with.

Indeed. Not just for the cause of equality, but also for aesthetic reasons, I would like to see some male armor that shows more neck, a bit of chest, bare arms (biceps, forearms etc.). The whole “bare skin” thing is very one-sided in this game (the only male armor sets that do show more bare skin are the super ugly, primitive looking gladiator-themed sets, of which there are two if I recall correctly).

If I as a female player has to see female characters in skimpy armor then I’d really love to see skimpy male armor. Perhaps small shorts and a bare chest? I’m interested in seeing their rear ends as well. If I have to accept sexualization of the female characters then please sexualize the male characters with skimpy armor as well!

I second this sentiment.

@Nightshade: I never mastered the Mad King’s Clocktower, so I feel your pain. But with the Winter Wonderland, I tried a new approach, and it makes the JP a piece of cake once you’ve mastered the basics (also, unlike the Mad King’s Clocktower, you respawn immediately, which helps because you are still in the swing of things!).

So, how to learn mastering Winter Wonderland:

  • Deactivate the sound. There is nothing adding more to the stress than the sound of breaking ice behind you and the sound of other players jumping etc. It really helps you focus.
  • Ignore the health bar. You’ll never become a calm, focused jumper, quick enough to get through this JP, if you panic about your decreasing health all the time.
  • Keep your focus. Ignore everyone else, and if you feel like they are in your way, wait a second for them to jump to the next platform so that you can keep a clear view on your toon.
  • Use the left path. I find it to be the easiest.
  • The blue boxes. Once you reach the gift boxes/stairs, don’t jump if there are too many other players. Wait for it to clear up a bit. If you are alone, the better! Because if you wait a second after the gifts respawn, you’ll get an extra set of boxes that make the jump extremely easy.
  • Chant. Nope, not kidding you. Either put on some motivational music and sing along, or try motivating yourself by talking to yourself (“This is easy, I can do this, I will succeed” etc.). Yep, sounds crazy, but hey, no one is watching you so just give it a try.

Good luck.

P.S. I went from being unable to master this JP to finishing it within ~2-3 mins of time in merely a couple of days! It just takes practice, focus and — most importantly — a calm mindset.

Seriously, some frustrated kids in PvP behave just like the CS kids (or many people on the internet in general these days, see Donald Trump).

[Suggestion] Slimmer male Norn, please!

This is what super-strong guys tend to really look like: http://nightflight.com/wp-content/uploads/CHICAGO-WRESTLING-2a.jpg

It’s a world different from what you are asking for, and much closer to … yup, the model that is in use today for male norn.

But we already have such Norn bodies! (Although their heads are still too tiny even at maximum size, compared to the two human males in your example, and their feet are still ridiculously huge, which has zero to do with body muscle mass…)

All I am asking for is the addition of ONE (or two) slimmer model(s), like the one in my OP’s edited screenshot.

Example. Elephant Seals. The sexes look the same when young, but markedly different as adults.

Adult male and female

Did I not, repeatedly, explicitly point out that I was talking about humanoids, not animals? ^^

I think Norn need thicker legs more than thinner torsos.

Only if they adjust females to match that appearance.

I don’t know why people keep arguming with me. I am not asking for the current bodies to be altered, I am asking for an additional option.

[spoiler] s3e5 dialogue ppl might have missed

Just thought I’d post this for people who might have missed it.

The first screenshot shows the dialogue between the Commander and Taimi. They are as clueless as to why Balthazar needs to absorb worldly magic as we are. The fact that this dialogue is in there to me is proof that it will be explained in detail soon and will be a major part of the story (in episode 6 or in the expansion).

The second screenshot is the one between the Commander and Marjory. The latter is as shocked about Kasmeer’s out-of-character behavior as we were when we first played the episode. Many posted they find this behavior intolerable — and I agree. I don’t like seeing Kasmeer being turned into a coward (oh, and for the record, I can’t take her annoying hiccups anymore!). The devs will have to come up with an especially good excuse for that. In any case, this dialogue (as the previous one) to me is solid proof that the Gods will be the major topic in the upcoming expansion, not the dragons — what a relief! (Unless there is something to my theory after all. )

Invisible Shoes! What the?!

now we just need more high heels of various varieties across all weight classes.

Nooooo! On the contrary, we need less of those! (shudders) It’s so hard finding good flat boots/shoes for female characters as it is.

I just peaked into Black Desert, the armors for female characters are terrible (as are the animations and the girly anime voices). All high heels, short skirts, even stockings — so cheap. I felt disgusted and had to leave. That is the only reason I am not going to play that game.

Now, if GW2 continues with the sexist armor policy, I might consider leaving as well. At least, here we still have some alternatives (and it’s still much classier than in BD).

Severe Bug: Hunters Board mail

When you receive the daily reward mail while on a demo char, you can’t pick up the reward. Which is fine.

However, when you log onto another char to pick it up, the mail is gone and so is your daily reward.

This needs to be fixed ASAP! Second time this has happened to me during demo weekends. <—replace with angry smiley

[Suggestion] Idea: Solution to "trenchcoats"

Where’d you get profession from? Ori said armor weights, not professions. They’re right.

Potatoes, potatos.

My point still stands: With outfits you can cover every armor weight, hence the argument is nonsense. As for the rest, read my previous posts again, I am not in the mood of repeating myself over and over. ^^

P.S. Please stop making this thread yet another discussion about taste. It’s a suggestion for a new mechanic to be added, and that’s that.

my account get stoled

Tickets only get closed when there hasn’t been a response provided for a certain amount of time. Instead of opening new tickets, you should check the ticket’s status daily and write a response if you have not heard back from support within five days.

I am sure they will be able to help you if your account was hijacked. However, while you are waiting for a proper response, you should look into securing your system and browser better (as well as selecting a save e-mail address and a strong password, make sure you have no keylogger or other viruses and malware on your system, etc.). See what else you can do to prevent this from happening again. Because accounts don’t just “get stolen”, it’s usually the account owner’s negligence that leads to this.
