Oh! that glider is hilarious, at first I thought it was like little water speckles, but if you look closely, they look like feathers… but in fact, its just “tiny” soul people running and fall off as you glide!

I can’t get an angle on which I can actually recognize any such detail. It’s all “washy” from the movement. Do you have a screenshot per chance?

Edit: Oh! I took one myself, and now I see what you are talking about! They look like stick figures, heh. Love it even more now!

Legendary Armor: Feedback [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

That’s the intent. Anet did as little as possible to make the appearance of the armor unique, added the features to make it Legendary, and will then go back to pushing outfits.

That theory is erroneous since the Legendary Armor will provide unique pompous effects that won’t be visible unless you use the skin.

Agreed. I want some decent, classic fantasy GW armor sets too, not this modern, sci-fi looking stuff.

Almost all my chars use mixed sets simply because Anet has not created one decent set except for some heritage sets.

Human female idle animations

Female animations are bad overall.

As a woman, I feel silly to watch my female Norn warrior’s /sit animation to look like that of a noble lady with an inbound geriatric hip issue.

I also hate how human females run.

I hate even more how all human females have super-narrow shoulders, like all women were fragile barbie dolls. And don’t get me started about the anorexic body models, like women are either fat or anorexic, and if they aren’t then they must have strong body muscles and huge boobs and butts.

(facepalm)

These are some of the reasons why most of my characters are male.

[Request] Report Option for Pet Names

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

Since there is a report option for character names, I would like to suggest to add one for pet names as well. Would that be possible?

During my years in GW2, I have come across plenty of offensive, super gross ones on several occasions — from vulgar expressions to kitten SS names, everything has been covered.

I know it would require a far more complicated mechanic than the character names, with tracking pet names etc., but I think it would make a great addition.

Thanks for reading.

Raven's spirit glider is too big

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

It needs to be big because you are inside of it.

Which is the biggest problem in the concept of this glider.

When I first read “Raven Spirit”, I thought, “Wow, how cool!” Then I previewed the glider, and it’s cheesy and ugly beyond words.

First of all, why does the character have to be “inside of it”? And secondly, how much cooler a decent spirit effect with just a hint of wings and a beak would have been?

I, for once, won’t waste Gems on that thing.

Edit: I too would vote for “Disabling of big gliders and backpacks”. When I was doing yesterday’s JP, I missed several jumps because of huge characters with even bigger back items (namely wings) in front of me. Whoever came up with the idea of making in-game life miserable for non-Charr, non-Norn player characters by having those hulks constantly blocking your view when jumping or gliding did a great job.

Mounts [merged]

Ashantara.8731

While I don’t particularly miss mounts in GW2, I have to admit that I would prefer a noble steed to silly Spiderman threads and lava tubes catapulting me through maps.

Even if the leaks aren’t true. Broom, Flying carpet, descender etc….

I am sorry, but you can’t compare those to the feeling of riding across the lands on a horse like in, let’s say, TES: Oblivion. Now, that was cool.

No more kiddy dialogue, please!

in Living World

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

Ah, thanks for the examples; that helps me understand where you’re coming from.

I don’t think you do. It is not just about the colloquial language.

The dialogue often sounds like people of a low IQ are trying to have a conversation. And we all know IQ is not bound to your social background. The dialogue sounds like it was written so that even kids can follow the story (which, by the way, is an insult to kids, because many are very smart and some even more eloquent than many adults).

I think it’s good that people speak “colloquially” — not everyone talks like kings, particular not most of our merry band. Jory is from the streets, Braham is a kid, Rox is a plebe, and Taimi is a teenage wunderkind and in a rush. There’s nothing wrong with contractions.

I am sorry, but even “plebes” did not talk like that in our world, so why should plebes in GW talk like they have time-traveled from the future while more sophisticated characters have a tone fitting for a fantasy setting? It makes no sense to me. (Edit: Look at the Hobbits and common Dwarves in LotR, for instance. They are plebes, but none of them sounds like a contemporary teenager…)

No one is “guessing” your passwords. You either entered your login data on a fraudulent third party website or you have a keylogger in combination with malware on your system (which seems to be the case here). You urgently need to clean and secure your system.

1. Learn how to configure Windows properly to make it more secure so that nothing can install without your knowledge.

2. Learn to configure your web browser properly for the same purpose (like don’t allow every script to be automatically executed).

3. Install the right software to keep your system protected and warn you of possible threats. (I recommend Avast Free Antivirus, Spybot, and ZoneAlarm Free Firewall. After installation, run full in-depth scans of your system!)

4. Adjust your browsing habits. Don’t click on every link and don’t visit fishy websites (Avast should help with the latter).

5. Check every e-mail’s true source to avoid falling for phishing attempts.

6. Don’t share any account information (login etc.) with anyone.

7. Never log into your account on public computers or anyone else’s computer that you don’t know for sure is virus-free.

8. Use common sense. People need to treat their computers not like daily tools but like something that harbors an important part of their life (like sensitive account information, for instance).

It’s possible the 2F Authentication is wonky with your account.

Or that, but that would be a strange issue (first time I’ve heard of it, especially in combination with a “pop-up” window).

I do report using /stuck, but frustration has truly reached a level where I needed to vent.

You are right that there is no “one cause”, but at least they could introduce an unstuck function that allows you to port anywhere in a certain (not too large) radius in order to free yourself. Listing the level of difficulty to solve the issue in my honest opinon is only an excuse. This has happened far too often to me, in the past two weeks alone, to call it an unlucky conincidence.

P.S. If they are too busy to introduce a proper unstuck mechanic then they need to create far more waypoints in the new maps.

Most boring race

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

I agree on the Norn.

While the lore is pretty good, I find the design of the Norn severely disappointing and lacking in any imagination. Especially when you consider that the Charr and Asura are pretty unique races, the Norn lack any kind of uniqueness. They are quite literally just larger humans.

Culturally, I have to disagree. While humans in Tyria are similar to older cultures in mid and southern Europe (Ascalon, Kryta), eastern Asia (Cantha), and northern Africa (Elona), Norn are supposed to have a northern European culture (Skandinavia and Germany, as in Vikings, Celts and Teutons etc.).

Anet did a great job with the environment (architecture), even the culture (animism as their religious foundation etc.). But when it comes to developing content for the Norn, it was all reduced to NPCs talking about drinking and hunting, and the personal story was reduced to that as well.

There was so much stereotypism in all of it that it made me roll my eyes on several occasions (e.g., making Norn say stuff like “Ja!” at the end of each sentence is ridiculous, because neither Skandinavians nor Germans talk that way).

As for their looks:

Yeah, Norn are just stereotypical vikings.

I wish they were!

While female Norn have beautiful bodies (much better designed than those of female humans), their males look like mud chunks (with ridiculously large hands and feet). They should have toned down the males and toughened up the females, then we could talk Vikings.

The way it is now, many players abuse Norn PC females as “taller humans with tattoos”.

(edited by Ashantara.8731)

Race should matter! A short rant.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ashantara.8731

Glad to see some people agree. It shows that there are people who prefer good story-telling and variety to boring linearity and simplicity.

Let me quote myself from another thread:

Another problem is the boredom that derives of the fact that things that were initially in the game, and that represented a great foundation for diverse, personalized story-telling, were completely abandoned in future content: the choice of race and character background, the implementation of “personality” — they were all there, but instead of expanding on that, everything was linearized, thus simplified, and the focus was put on other things that just can’t make up for the lack of variety (bouncing mushrooms, grinding maps,…).

Even the nay-sayers here can’t deny that race (like every other choice that initially made your character unique) has zero influence on anything anymore these days.

You know what I did these past couple of months out of sheer boredom? I started collecting legendary weapons I don’t need to feel like I was playing some “unique” content, and making new characters I don’t need of professions I already have only so I could play through different personal story options in order to experience that thrill of feeling like my choices during character creation somehow matter.

I believe many people have more than nine characters (one for each profession) for that very reason. It is the only part of the whole story (from two campaigns and three LW seasons!) that actually makes you feel like your race etc. matters. What a waste of potential in this game!

Please change Gliding functionality

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

Hello,

here is my problem: I am used to holding down the spacebar whenever I execute a longe-range jump. I have been used to doing so since the first 3D games that included jumping were introduced (so yeah, that’s a long time).

I can’t execute longe-range jumps appropriately in GW2 without doing so. Now you can imagine how annoyed I was when my character unlocked glinding and I realized it would always activate when I hold down the spacebar.

For instance, I constantly miss my target platform because glinding activates and fly past it. (argh!)

Could you please introduce an option to put the gliding function on another key or at least allow the player to deactivate gliding when not needed/wanted?

Please, this is huge for me as jumping is a vital part in this game.

Positive:

  • Riding the Raptor was a lot of fun (I think the attack range for its tail attack is bugged, btw).
  • Helping the Sous-Chef for a Mastery Point was a lot of fun. More content that doesn’t involve fighting is welcome.
  • Bounties: Great idea, but often interfere with other quests (see below).
  • Very nice designs, but the map’s layout is lacking something. I can’t put my finger on it right now.
  • Nice animations.
  • Enjoyable soundtrack.

Negative:

  • Not enough waypoints again. How about implementing the LWS3 Ep.6 mechanic?
  • Too much action (events, enemies, tasks) cramped into small areas. It results in a rather stressful gaming experience. Also, it often leads to tasks overlapping, getting into each others’ way, making it impossible to finish them properly (like collecting fish carcasses and fighting a champ at the same time?). Blitz events are not helping the matter, either. You just can’t enjoy the view or take proper screenshots, it’s almost entirely impossible.
  • Too many currencies and other means to acquire/unlock equipment again (caches, unidentified gear, map currency, etc.). Enough already!
  • Too many movement requirements also cramped into small areas, in terms of jumping puzzles: catching casino coins, trying to get to a vista, trying to unlock a POI, and so on. Stop it, please.
  • Got stuck in a wall again, this time when I used my S/A Revenant’s skill #4. Fix this annoying bug already, Anet!
  • So much this.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

yeah add a graphical toggle for death shroud too lol.
And remove holosmith’s fx, and berserker’s fx too..
If this actually happens it will go on and end with all classes having no fx and a stupid amount of dev time would be wasted.

There are effects that are nicely done (like the Death Shroud or Berserker’s fire), and then there are effects that are giving you a severe headache and melting down your eyeballs (like the Holosmith’s).

And then there are effects like the Soulbeast’s that are just lame.

Your Guild Wars 2 story begins when you create your character. […] The humans, a noble proud race surrounded by enemies. The charr, masters of warfare and conquest. The norn, heroic shapeshifters from the frozen north. The asura, beings of small size and great intellect. The sylvari, a mysterious new race of plant people. […] When you’re ready, you will enter Tyria, a massive, ever changing world. […] Because these dynamic events evolve and change, depending on the actions of players like you, each time you log in, you can find something new. […] personal story. This unique, customizable adventure changes and branches with every choice you make. No two players will have the same experience. […] It’s a living, breathing fantasy world. A deeply customizable role-playing experience.

This was one of the first trailers released for the game, and I don’t know about you, but I found it a slap in the face to have it featured on the 5th anniversary Guild Chat. Because they’ve completely erased this game mechanic by making every player experiencing the exact same content, following the exact same path, forcing them to make the exact same choices (for there are no choices).

I want that GW2 back, with personalized content, where race (and perhaps profession and personality as well) matter, where you were able to choose your path. Nowadays, I hardly recognize my charr or my norn for their human behavior, tone, language, and emotional responses.

I hope the devs will get back to this vital part of GW2 that used to make your character feel special and provided a lot of fun and variety.

[Suggestion] In-game Survey

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

Since there has been a lot of criticism lately as for the quality, consistency and credibility of the current season’s developments, I would suggest that ArenaNet implemented a quick survey at the end of each story mission (past and future) to get a better picture of what the players liked and what they disliked.

This doesn’t have to be too complicated and it should run only for a limited amount of time (2-3 months?).

I am picturing a pop-up (like the mission reward window) where you can rate the following categories

  • Plot (consistency, story credibility)
  • Dialogue (character credibility, quality of writing)
  • Fun (difficulty/challenge level, innovation)
    … with three possible ratings:
    [ _ ] Liked
    [ _ ] Indifferent
    [ _ ] Disliked

I think this could be helpful for both sides, as players would feel like they can contribute to the future quality of content and devs would get an instant feedback rather than reading through tons of posts.

Note: Participation should be optional, i.e. once the survey goes online, people have to confirm or decline participation (e.g., by checking the option at game launch in their login screen).

Thoughts?

P.S. Perhaps they could also add an option where you can select your age category (<21, 21-35, 36-45, 46+) to see how every age group responds differently or if the tenor is equal across all groups.

Skimpy armor for male characters

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

Also… less tiddy holders for heavy armour. That’s not how plate armour works. It shouldn’t separate and define the tiddies, because that not only makes 0 sense but also makes a weak point in the armour. It’s like no armour designer has ever seen two boobs in the same place in their life.

Hahahahahahaha… OMG, thank you so much for this comment!

Sadly, this is so, so, so true. I had trouble finding decent heavy armor for my female Norn. Ridiculous “tiddy holders” indeed.

I guess we forgot that everyone is running around shooting magic out of their hands or something? How can an armor be unrealistic […]

That’s not really the point here. The point is taste. And many people prefer realistic looking heavy armor — the point not being the realism per se but the look. Tiddy holders just look ridiculous and their purpose is obvious. Also, why must the female version of an armor set look skimpy while the male version does not??

Out of every game I have played, Guild Wars 2’s art team has been the most obvious in its desire to give a variety.

Comparing GW2 with other games doesn’t make the point being made in this thread any less valid. (One of many reasons why I don’t play any of those other games is the sexist design of female characters. We have that, too, in GW2, just not to that extent. But it’s still a valid point to be made and to be heard by the devs.)

Hey, if it makes ya’ll feel better, that is exactly what we’ll get in PoF, everyone suffering equally:
http://dulfy.net/2017/08/09/gw2-upcoming-armor-outfits-and-weapons-from-path-of-fire/

I can see the trend of ugly (or badly executed ideas for) armor sets continues. Get a decent designer for this already!

At least some of the weapons look truly awesome. And so does the feathered hat! Excellent design — but I just checked the preview, and the hair is cosmetic and not the character’s own. The male toupé looks awful, so I am not going to buy that thing (which is a true shame… once more).

It rarely happens that a new expansion fully reinvigorates the “new game world”-feeling of starting a new MMORPG. But it’s utterly rare.

For some reason, I feel like you did not get my point.

Maybe the title was misleading, but if you read my post, you should understand that it’s not about “the new game world feeling”. That’s an entirely different topic.

Creating specific encounters which depend on personal story would be certainly nice, but a total waste of time if compared to a single episode of living story.

That might be so, but nonetheless, I wanted to point out that ArenaNet has broken their promise made in that trailer, and it was quite a sarcastic move to put it in said anniversary chat.

Trahearne voice actor (possible spoilers)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The voice acting for Trahearne meets the two main criteria (at least, for me):

1. It sounds natural and doesn’t break immersion, i.e. you don’t imagine an actor reading a line, but believe it’s a character saying these words.

2. It fits the character’s personality.

1. Interesting perception. My main complaint is that it does not sound the least bit “natural”.

2. So the character is a lifeless puppet? My bad, I thought he was a Sylvari scholar who was commanding the troops.

I don’t think it’s the voice actor’s fault. Probably a combination of direction and writing.

Agreed, and it doesn’t really matter who is to blame. The results are still the same.

Yes, it is sorely being missed by everyone I know. Most of the GH decoration provided is insufficient compared to the better/bigger/prettier versions of the decoration’s equivalent used on maps.

I’m not sure how I feel about it. It seems… functional but the way it was advertised made it seem like more than I’m seeing here. I really hope A.net adds to it or at least makes it less cramped before release. I’m already seeing people upset at what they’re seeing and feeling like this is an afterthought compared to the previous exclusive areas they’ve put out.

I couldn’t agree more, my thoughts exactly when I passed by that… flat wooden construct (a houseboat?) the other day. Very disappointing considering the price for the “Deluxe” content.

It is frikkin’ confusing the first time around. I have only played one story mission thus far since release and am still not done exploring this gigantic monster of a map. The endless number of paths is just insane.

Why Events are not a replacement for Quests

I don’t think the OP was trying to say that they wanted events replaced with personal quests. I think the actual statement was that ArenaNet has been completely neglecting personal character development (as initiated by the personal story) in favor of events, which is never a good thing in a MMO*RPG* for the RPG part is completely being ignored.

Soon people will turn from MMOs to traditional pen & paper again, because they miss the excitement of adventuring and character progress.
