[BUG] Meeting the Asura [Merged]

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Ashantara.8731

I was just attempting to do the Mastery Achievement for this story chapter and noticed the following:

Since the last patch, you can no longer knock out the first Asuran guard in order to enter the facility. It says “Press […] to knock out”, but pressing that button does nothing.

I tried with a friend, he couldn’t trigger it, either. It just doesn’t work anymore.

Please fix! Thanks.

You don’t need to deactivate the Avast add-on — it is super good and saves you a lot of trouble!

What you need to do is this:

  1. Press the Windows key
  2. search for “Programs and Features”
  3. find “Avast Free Antivirus”, right-click and select “Change”
  4. select “Modify”
  5. uncheck “SafeZone Browser” and “SafePrize browser extension”, but leave “Security browser extension” checked (!)

It will uninstall the annoying add-ons but will leave your browser security add-on intact. That add-on is very helpful to identify fishy websites and keep your system save from harm.

Edit: I am attaching a screenshot so you see which extensions should be left unchecked at installation (some are useless as they only work when you buy a professional edition of Avast; also, for a system cleanup, use CCleaner).

What gathering tools have fastest animation?

Are there any gathering tools that have the fastest animations so I can be on my way quicker? cough Bitterfrost mobs cough…

The animation length is irrelevant when gathering/farming. The gathering time remains the same, regardless of how quick the animation ends. You just have to watch the gathering bar — as soon as it finishes, you can immediately move on to the next farming node, even if the animation hasn’t finished yet.

If gw2 was launching today..

Ashantara.8731

What would you want to change. What do you wish never happened at launch and what would you rework now if you could start over with a blank slate. What do you love about gw2 and would want to keep the same?

If they could start all over, I would request the following:

  • First and foremost, keep the qualified writer(s) you had in the beginning!
  • Second most important thing, continue with the Personality mechanic as well as the multiple path choice mechanic, so that storylines progress based on your choices (and possibly also on your race and choices made during creation)!
  • Add profession specific content that is only accessable to the respective class. Little quests and that sort of thing.
  • Stay true to GW1 in some aspects: 1. Remove the “your weapon dictates your skills” mechanic, 2. Re-introduce the concept of having new starting areas for characters created in an expansion, 3. Add new classes rather than elite specializations, 4. Maybe add a hero henchmen mechanic where you can use your other player characters as trusty henchmen with whom you can create your own full party.
  • On the technical side of things, put more NPCs into the core campaign’s missions. You hear a horde of people cheering during the celebration, and at least a hundred warcries during supposedly huge battle scenes, yet — with the limitations given to avoid lag — all those scenarios feel rather empty and lack the intensity of the moment.

Black Lion Chest duplicate bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

I had this earlier today, with 3 instances of the item that teleports to the high-up area in the new map. The second item got replaced immediately, but the third didn’t.

Exactly!

For me, the first item involved was the Grasping Phantom Glider (for which I received a key from support when I reported it). The last item was, like in your case, the Bitterfrost Vantage Point (which so far they refuse to replace).

Edit: I just checked into my Support Account I found this reply:

Hey there ****,

When it comes to the Seasonal Black Lion chests, keys are not received for every duplicate in the chests. That rule only applies to wardrobe items, so if you had received a duplicate outfit you would get the keys, but things like the Bitterfrost Vantage point, mail carriers, etc. Don’t receive keys for duplicates. If you have any other questions, please feel free to let us know.

I updated the ticket again. If this doesn’t get resolved, I will ask for a Supervisor to look into it (thanks for that advice).

Harvesting/Mining Tools from the Shop

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ashantara.8731

Dear developers,

I purchased everlasting tools for all three means of harvesting/mining materials.

When I was playing with only one character, it was all fine. But now that I have six characters, it is majorly annoying to constantly shift the items from one character on to another several times a day.

Can’t you provide a copy for each character on the account like you are doing with some other items that come with special editions of the game etc.? It would make life a lot easier.

Thanks.

Also, you did not include the original response you received, and I can’t give you a proper answer when I don’t know what the issue is (there must be a reason why they won’t help you.)

Unfortunately, that is a general issue all across Tyria, because the game does not explain the mechanic, so newbies don’t know what it is and what it does (and what they can do about it). The countless times I have read someone asking in text chat “What does CC mean?” and “What is a break/defiance bar?”…

I wasn’t sure whether the devs read the Account & Technical Support subforum, so I decided to post this in here.

I find it a bit of an annoyance that when you select the Replay option, then Quit the story chapter, it is indicated in green (as “unfinished”) and certain purple markers remain on the maps, even though you have already completed the whole chapter.

I am still getting the purple indicators for LWS3 E5 on two characters, even though I only reactivated it to do the bonus story mission achievements. Now that I am done and Quit the Chapter, it is still showing me the markers AND I am having this whole chapter marked as unfinished, that means in green, in my Story Journal.

So, please, can you finally implement a Quit options that removes the green indicator and the purple markers? Please?

i think they have kind of shifted too far towards the fantastic recently. whether its the magic or the science, almost everything is radical and over the top. A bit of that is ok, but it seems out of balance now, to the point that they have lost a bit of the wow factor

Agreed.

I don’t mind the Asura with their technology, but I liked that better in GW1 where there were only (more “archaic” looking) golems and a lot of mechanical tinkering. Now we have high-tech computer systems running on magic. It’s ridiculous and feels “loveless”. There is no more heart to it.

This mix of high-tech, magic, dragons and weirdly changed gods (all being interconnected) doesn’t sit well with me. I want my beloved GW back.

Further to this, there’s points of interest that are just not viewable on the map. Burial Chamber and Zeta Vault are two such PoI’s. In fact, Zeta Vault and Druid’s Grotto fall in between two layers of the map, so that’s not really fighting fair, Anet.

You had a good thing going before gliding was introduced, now you somehow feel the need to exploit it to the N’th degree. […]

I made the same complaint just the other day. While I enjoy the new means of travel (gliding, ley-lines, mushrooms, tubes, oakheart), I don’t find it particularly appealing nor impressive to make any of those the main means of travel while walking seems to have become the exception (even story missions now require gliding).

It has grown to a point where I would say this has become a major annoyance for old school players; “old” by the means of GW play time and players’ age, as IMO only youngsters can enjoy seeing a classic RPG being turned into a platformer (hint: this is still Guild Wars, not Donkey Kong).

You are absolutely right. In fact, Anet should provide content guidance about a lot of things in this game that are not self-explanatory. But for some reason they seem to think that it’s okay to have players do their own research on Wiki and Google instead — saves them time and resources, which is always the #1 excuse on here for why something that should be this or that way isn’t.

Does anyone just have fun anymore?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

No one seems to want to have fun anymore. They are obsessed with numbers, averages, and metrics…it’s like the games have become spreadsheet and parser simulations that have very little to do with going on an adventure with your friends. The vast majority conversations I have had in game haven’t been about the world, the story or what is happening it’s all been about the math behind the game and it’s disheartening.

Agreed.

Back when I joined my guild as a GW2 newbie, I constantly felt pressured to reach this and do that, and there were constantly questions about whether I have already achieved certain things, already got ascended gear etc. Not everyone was acting like that, mind you, but it was enough to put me under pressure and take away a lot of the “Let’s play to have fun!” part of the game.

When I would ask for advice on builds, one member of my guild would always respond by laughing and saying that “If you are still using exotic gear, builds don’t matter as you can’t possibly achieve anything useful.” This went on to a point where I would start spending real money on gems only to convert them to gold to be able to buy equipment.

It was awful, and no, it wasn’t just a matter with my guild+, it was a general agenda in local text chat as well, where some players even reacted in a rude manner when you were disclosing the fact that you were still struggling for gold and had no ascended equipment. They would tell you to grind fractals and meta events and call you stupid for not doing so.

+) I tried a different guild for a short period of time, but their members felt “compelled” to grind Halloween for GH decoration and spent that whole event time doing nothing else, then complained about being bored and tired of it, yet proudly comparing who had grinded the most for the day.

I personally don’t want another statistics class, I want to meet new friends and have fun in a living breathing world…wasn’t that what the MMO Manefesto was about?

As some of the responses here show, people keep defending the min-maxing and don’t understand. Their general agenda, sadly, is: “If you want all that, go play an off-line RPG, not an MMO.”

player statistics on MAX crafting

I also have all crafting disciplines max’d, including scribe because I enjoy decorating our guild hall.

I started for two reasons: curiosity about grasping the system of crafting in GW2, and for leveling my then low level characters (which I think was nerfed late last year so that now you can no longer get as much XP out of it?).

I’m glad I took the time to do this, because there are so many practical uses for the art of crafting. It really is fun, although the system appears somewhat chaotic and not well thought through in some parts. They could have done more with it and in a less complex and more orderly way.

Absolutely not. More futuristic nonsense? Please nooooo…

Have you ever read a classic fantasy novel, played classic fantasy RPGs, played GW1, know what classic fantasy means? That is what most oldtime players want, not some modern anime or Marvel cartoon nonsense that only youngsters find appealing. That has no place in a game like GW.

And what does that tell you? Correct: There is something awfully wrong with the whole concept of elite specializations.

The meta is as rigid as an iceberg, and with each addition of a new elite spec the only thing that is changing is the one build that is considered proper for your profession. There is no flexibility in the way Anet has designed the elite specilization mechanic — and unfortunately, I don’t see them changing it anytime soon.

Upon opening BLCs, account-bound items’ dublicates (i.e., items that your account already received) are being replaced with a free key.

Well, that’s how it’s supposed to be. Unfortunately, lately I have repeatedly run into a bug where — if you open several chests at once (let’s say 25) — only the first duplicate gets replaced. If you get the item again during the same opening session, it won’t get replaced.

I contacted support, and the first time this happened they sent me a key to compensate the loss. However, this time they refuse (even though they could check my character’s inventory and verify my claim was correct).

Please fix this bug ASAP, in the meantime I won’t open any more chests nor buy any keys from the Store.

Arenanet has broken its promise

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

@OP – You miss the most important part: Those key people talking in the trailer, the veterans from GW1, are no longer part of the team. Founder Mike O’Brien (I loved that guy) left, and so did Ree Soesbee (she was great), and Daniel Dociu (his son took over as lead artist who apparently prefers a more modern style than good old-fashioned classic fantasy). That’s why GW2 has become more and more of a grinding game with weird new designs. And in many aspects it tries to copy other MMO’s core content (raids, for instance) instead of staying true to the original vision. I’d prefer to have better storylines personalized for my characters (race, background, alignment etc.) than new ways to ridiculously move through a map etc.

So I am currently desperately looking for an alternative, because GW2 just isn’t cutting it for me anymore (I’m merely hanging by a thread, trying to fill the “gap” with new characters only to experience some of the good content again on my way to Level 80). I am so bored most of the time. It feels too repetitive, as you correctly stated (and adding new means of travel doesn’t help the issue). Unfortunately, all the other MMOs out there are just as repetitive. The original vision of what GW2 was supposed to be has been canned in many aspects for the sake of satisfying those standard MMO players. While it still has a uniqueness about it, it is gradually fading. Quantity doesn’t equal quality.

P.S. This video summarizes the issue pretty well:

Got in… did the first part of the story on it… then found “mastery point”. Yay a mastery point, right there in the city. Oh wait… it’s more like a “heart”…. and super pain in the butt exercise that I finally gave up on. I’m not sure why this was implemented this way but I finally gave up on it… went out into the desert for a few minutes… and I haven’t been back.

Probably won’t be back until the update comes out. For me at this point, I’m not seeing a compelling reason to go back there. I spent a bundle on it so I suppose I’ll have to go there when it comes out just to try that Mastery Point again and ride some mounts. But for now, it’s back to the ‘old world’ and WvW for me.

Same for me. I was so bored yesterday that I have not bothered to return to the PoF preview today.

That was the lamest, least compelling introduction into a strory line I have seen in a computer game so far. But since Ellen Kiel’s office will open at release, I assume there will be more story to it. I also hope that what we have seen so far was not the introduction into the Crystal Desert, because it felt like, “So, we got you here, now see if you can find something interesting to do by yourself.” Yawn…

By the way, blitz events are not the way to make a map and story more compelling, either.

For people who do not like masteries

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

Masteries per se were a great invention, if they hadn’t been so tightly locked to story progress in HoT. That ruined it for many, and calling people “lazy” because they have better things to do with their time than grinding XP and Mastery Points is quite impertinent. Furthermore, the fact that you won’t gain any more non-mastery XP unless you have all Masteries maxed is also an outrage, therefore I do understand people complaining about the status quo (even though Anet seems to have understood their own mistake and handled things better post-HoT).

P.S. I have all Masteries maxed, so you can’t say I was trying to “defend” a certain point of view because I was having trouble with the issue myself.

It does not ruin anything, it is all perspective, no mmorpg should he a cakewalk. If you want super easy there are always phone games. I understand why people are complaining but it does not justify it. They are far from being half as grind as other mmorpgs and if people do not wish to invest the effort and time they should not be playing an mmorpg at all.

I can’t say anything about other MMOs as I’ve never played any (except DDO, but that was different in pretty much every aspect).

I didn’t say that people shouldn’t be investing time if they want something. What I wrote was that the game is literally limiting their basic content access by locking Masteries to story content (you can’t proceed with HoT if you don’t have certain Masteries) and cutting their XP gain (for Spirit Shards) if they don’t grind all Masteries (including Raid Masteries).

  • Anet should consider the option to add a toggle for the CSS so that everyone can choose which CSS theme they would like to use.
  • If not, then at least make the lighting in the PoF CSS equally neutral to the one in the current HoT CSS, so that the coloring will display correctly.
  • Also, please remove the two front layers in the PoF CSS that are covering the characters’ feet.

I’m completely indifferent to all of the characters and what they have to say

What do you play an MMO for then, if not for the story?

I only find this annoying when I’m doing the story for the 3rd or 4th time.
