Cheers for anti-zerg philosophy

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Astralporing.1957

I can’t imagine playing GW2 just for the loot and profit margins. There are a lot of other games better suited for that.

True. What i’d like is to have fun, and get something extra for it.The problem is, Crown Pavillon mobs aren’t fun. They are hp sponges designed to be zerged, that got anti-zerg mechanics added on top.
Fighting them is boring, annoying, and not profitable. Additionally even achievements for them aren’t worth much.
In the end i’d rather see content that is zerged because it is fun/worth doing, than content that isn’t zerged because noone wants to play it.

Philosophy Shift to Less Choice

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Astralporing.1957

I just keep coming back to it’s only for achievements. That’s it. If you don’t care about achievements, it shouldn’t matter at all. If you do care about them, it matters in the positive way. There’s no way you could have gotten 10 achievement points before without going much further out of your way.

It doesn’t matter. People that maximized their ap gains are likely capped already, and so not doing dailies anyway. What we’re talking about are mostly people that do like getting their ap’s, but didn’t go out of their way to maximize their gain (so, those that averaged 5-8 ap daily, depending on their playing style and preferred game mode). For most of them, putting the same effort as before will mean less AP gained, not more. Because most of the days they will get zero.

Legendary / Asc. are the final tiers of gear.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

I’m fairly sure at least legendaries will level along, either automatically or by a simple MF recipe.

They said Legendaries are currently best in slot. They said nothing about it being best in slot for level 90.

Actually they have said legendaries would always be BiS even with a level cap increase. Which isn’t likely to happen for the better part of the next year.

No, they said the legendary tier will be always equal to any new tier. They said nothing about the levels. It means that any level 80 legendary will be equal to level 80 ascended. If they were to increase tiers, level 80 legendary would become equal to level 80 “ascended 2.0”. If they were to increase level cap however, it’s entirely possible that current legendaries would still be equal to level 80 ascended, and new level 90 legendaries would appear. They haven’t said they won’t do that, after all.

This Game Is Too Easy

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

People haven’t changed gear in years.

Yes. The ease of getting the most powerful gear and lack of gear progression (both ideas taken from GW1) were one of the important selling points of this game. They still are.

I want to take note of that. Rather than the players rising to the challenge the game constantly lowers to the players. This is the primary reason why the game is too easy. If I went into a class and said “The test is too hard.” and the teacher just crossed off all but one question and made sure I knew the answer how exactly is that a challenge?

That’s what you don’t get. Not everyone is interested in being challenged. There are other reasons for playing games as well.

- What can A-net do to lean ‘casual’ players in the direction of self-improvement, so they would be content with pre-nerf HoT?

Most likely nothing. Why should they even attempt that, if, as it seems, majority of the players do not want to improve? It’s not like there’s some inherent value in “being a more hardcore player”, or in game being more difficult.

Yes. Almost everyone enjoys a difficult win. Easy loss however is almost never enjoyed. People want to believe that they succeeded against all odds. What they don’t want is the difficulty that is high enough to make them lose too often.

What players really want is not the difficulty itself, but an illusion of it.

Time for a 64bit client or no point

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

At this moment they need to either make a 64bit client, or introduce some ingame checks that would prevent it from addressing more memory it can handle. The problem, after all is not just because gw2.exe is a 32 bit process, but also because some parts of its engine seemed to leave the safety checks to the system/graphics drivers, assuming that these are also 32bit.

No, asking players to lower their graphics settings is not a viable solution to the problem that is caused solely by Anet.

In excess. So, as long as you currently have enough skill points to reach cap , you are golden. In the future, yes, there will be a problem – strictly WvW characters will need to do hero challenges in open world if they’d want to unlock all skills and elite specialization. 1500 Rescues - changes needed

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

To make it happen we need – some sort of individual reward and encouragement to get players away from the zergs and those tempting, but ultimately pointless blue loot bags. The event design needs a slight change so that players are given a strong incentive to go off and grab those civilians and to ensure that they make it back in one piece.

Cutting down on veterans and elites everywhere, and on Sudden Orbital Barrage Spams of Doom would immensely help in that regard. There’s just no point in helping to get civilians get through chokepoints if in those chokepoints mobs respawn faster than you are able to kill them, or if anytime you attempt to do that you get targetted by chains of knockdown aoes (in addition to elites popping out of thin air to pound upon you when you try to keep your stability up).

Basically, rescuing civilians is also a job for bigger groups. Individual players can help, but only up to a point. And that point is reached quickly, and discourages people from further attempts.

Sure, seeing as they are going to nerf dungeon rewards to the point where people will run them only for fun. Grind will migrate to other places

I just can’t understand how can he say that everything is subject to change and still refusing ascended as a top tier (which is also subject to change with hot release and legendary armors).

Not every change is good. This one isn’t.
“everything is sublect to change” doesn’t mean that we should support changes we do not agree with. It does mean that if something changed not to our liking, we can argue against it and have a hope of it being changed again.

It was sarcasm. Dunno how you didn’t get that.

The hidden truth about the "Chaos of Lyssa"

in Festival of the Four Winds

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

You view the game as a single player and want the rare item to drop for you specificially. The devs look at the game as a population of nearly four million accounts, consider the percentage of those accounts logging in every week, and must consider how millions of loot rolls every hour will produce X rare items, Y exotic items (of which Z are precursors) and what percentage of those will make it to the TP.

Yes, that’s the old, old argument. “What is good for the state is good for individual” vs. “what is good for the individual is good for the state”.

How special are these reward skins to you when you know that everyone in the game will eventually get them?

You are really asking the wrong person here. I have always insisted that the real value of the items lies in how good they look, not in how rare they are. Personally i couldn’t care if everyone else had access to the same items i do, as long as i could get things i like. So, to answer your question: it doesn’t matter if i am the only person that has these rewards or if everyone has them. I don’t care about rarity at all.

Add pvp to all maps...

Yes I am a programmer, i’m sure they were thinking in the way of adding pvp servers in addition to the megaserver, that would be a nightmare. and if / else statement to turn players read would take work, but not a complete re write.

No, it wouldn’t require a complete rewrite, just an extensive one. It definitely wouldn’t be easy – the “nightmare” you mentioned is a good description of what would be needed.
Hint: no, it’s not just an if/else statement. The very fact you think it would be shows that you didn’t even think about it for a moment.

WvW is a joke, and you obviously don’t understand the point of flagging up, it would be a skill you have that lets you fight other people, making new skills isn’t a year of work. So it is you that is not understanding.

Let’s take this example. Just try to think for a moment why “flagging” on and off at will might no be that good idea. And then meditate a bit more about consequences of permanent pvp flags in a GW2 Open World environment.

They only need to create a new flag that identify the other player as we are talking of 1vs1 as enemy and all the boons and damage only will affect those 2 entities.

We’re talking here about open world pvp, not a duelling option.

I’m reading peoples arguments, everyone seems to have forgotten the part where OP said you have the OPTION to tag up.

So, basically, you will be keeping the tag off until you are ready to surprise-gank someone else, then detag again for safety? Somehow i don’t think the system like that is going to work well.

Then i feel its my duty as every other veteran player to warn people playing gw2. Because i feel noone eventually wants to end with having nothing to do with no prospects to do anything. or extra content.

Then, as another veteran GW2 player, i’d like to respectfully point out that not everyone wants the same thing. Yes, i’d really like some new content to play in – be it new maps, dungeons, world bosses or guild missions. What i’m not really interested in however is a new, harder content. So, more content for everyone. Not only for a tiny minority.

Just asking and I wish anet would say something of their intentions because if they don’t care to make content for dedicated players so that these players can move on and find something to satisfy them.

They will never spell it out. At least not as long as that infamous Mike O’Brian’s No Talking About Future policy is in place. We have been unsuccesfully trying to make them reveal at least their most basic intentions for almost two years now. But it’s simply (as we were told) “not in the cards”.

An End to the Queensdale Train

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

Do we want a crop of level 80 players whose only experience in the game is running the train in Queensdale? Is that healthy for the game’s ecosystem?

Yes, if they like that (and since the train in general does not hurt anyone), it is healthy for the game.
If there are indeed players whose experience is limited to running QD train (and i seriously doubt it is as common as you think), then it is only because they did not want to learn anything else. Besides, most of the “new players” in the train are not really new, but alts. As are most of the “new” players in queensdale in general.
And the train (and Behemoth) are the main reason why the zone seems alive. Are you sure that presenting to new players a near empty (even on megaserver) zone would be better for the game?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Indeed, but by introducting the gear progression you would push away all the players that do not want it. Which likely at the moment far outnumber your (non-playing) friends. Whi is not surprising, by the way – all the players that do not like gear grind are in GW2 because it’s the only MMO around without that feature.

Also it’s a MMORPG game. There is no MMORPG without some type of grinding or gear progression.

Well, there is one – GW2 (without the gear progression anyway, grind is still present).

Don’t make every game a carbon copy of each other. Each should have some unique features. It just so happens, that the unique features of GW2 are something that you dislike.

I hate it. It’s one of the reasons I’m not big on the HoT maps. Hopefully mounts will make the dearth of waypoints less of a pain.

You got it wrong. Mounts are what make it worse, because without them we’d have more waypoints.

honestly this is not even a problem any more at all .given the fact when pof comes out we will have mounts . and will not be needing waypoints any more at all .

Nope. Mounts do not decrease the need (or desire) for waypoints in the slightest.

its a good thing and not any different at all when gliding came to the whole world

I agree about it not being any different. Gliding didn’t make the lack of waypoint any less of a problem, and i fully expect the same will happen here.

if that does not grab you then look at this way the money you be saving from less wp,s and more mount use will be great

I’m not that poor to not be able to afford waypoints yet. And i’d rather use quality QoL instead of it’s cheap and less satisfactory replacement.

Well going by the amount of people that lay around dead at events & bosses who refuse to use a WP that’s 30 seconds away maybe Anet concluded waypoints weren’t needed, so decided to reduce them lol

Actually, lower density of waypoints makes people even less likely to respawn.

That was actually aimed at Vayne, i guess. Who is hypocritical in his defending of ascended gear (even when he himself claims not to like them).

For me, the hard to get/content limited better stat gear is even worse than what we’re talking about here, because it adds vertical progression on top of narrow and stringent acquisition methods. And two wrongs don’t make a right.

Astralporing.1957

I’m not sure why some people can’t understand that if rare things get common, they drop in value and then your loots won’t be worth anything.
It’s a good thing that drop rates of rare things are low for your income.

Cheap rares are better for my income than no rares. And it’s not like they were worth much in the first place, even before drop chest upgrade.
Besides, i don’t sell them, but salvage for ecto. Which i gather also not for selling, but for personal use.

Also

After reading Martin’s answer on here this doesn’t seem that bad. The guaranteed rare will come once per account. But you can still come back with alts and do it and still have a CHANCE of a rare coming out of the chest. Also it looks like the precusars and exotics are still coming out of the chest.

The best chance for named exotics and precursors was from the guaranteed rare being upgraded to exotic (in truth, it was not a guaranteed rare, but a “rare or better” drop). With the lower number of guaranteed good drops, chance for precursors will plummet. Also, it’s not sure if the “rare or better” part will be retained at all – we might get “just rare” from now on.

tl;dr: a system is only scam proof if there is literally no way to take advantage of another person no matter how gullible they are. The GW1 system was NOT scam proof.

In fact, the other side didn’t need to do any shenanigans to scam you. All that was needed was for you to be unaware of what the other, more experienced players would pay for the item.

Remember, that one of the good sources of income was buying dyes from new players in presearing. New players were unaware that the droprate in the rest of the game was much worse, and that dyes were worth a lot more than they were being offered. With a gamewide TP taking advantage of those players that way would have been much, much harder.

Basically, any system that doesn’t allow you to easily compare prices ingame is a system that promotes scamming.

And going with your analogy, surely it never ever happens in real life that someone wants to go do something that only has limited spots or wants to go somewhere and has to bring people. No, that only ever happens in MMOs, I’m sure.

Well, if something like that were ever to start consistently happening in a RL situation, it would cause some serious friction and quite possibly bad blood. In MMOs you can get away with it usually only because people from the guild you’re in in truth often aren’t your friends. If they are, however, you have a problem.

HoT Legendaries

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Astralporing.1957

I’d rather see ANet take longer to release them and stick to the idea of collection-only legendaries/precursors.

Unfortunately, at this moment the “takes longer to release them” option is unavailable at all. They haven’t just simply postponed doing them until later. They have dropped all the work on these completely, with no guarantee that they’d ever return to it. There will always be “more important things” to do after all.

Continuing on the current path is not currently a viable option to pick. That’s why we need to think of alternatives if we want to ever see those legendaries.

Also

Randomly giving people upwards of 1500 gold is absurd.

let’s stop with exagerrating, okay? Not even the most costly precursor (which would be Legend at the moment) costs 1500 gold. As far as i know, no precursor has ever cost that much. Most of the precursors are way, way below that point.

So no, getting a lucky precursor drop is not equivalent of “randomly giving people upwards (lol) of 1500 gold”. Not even close.

The Crossing, is it really possible?

It’s 10k, not 100k for recipe. Which is still completely impossible short of buying mats off the market. And mats cost so much, it’s much cheaper to just buy the weapon off tp from someone that has last year’s recipe.

Guild Missions [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Astralporing.1957

The problem is, there isn’t that many players to go-around anymore. And then, most players will just end up leaving the small guilds or these guilds who cannot do these missions and join the larger ones – effectively killing every small guild in the game.

For some people that think this would be a good thing (there seems to be a number of thse in this thread) i’d like to remind that this kind of behaviour will teach players something. The lesson would be “forget about guild loyalty, it doesn’t matter”. It will not strengthen the community bonds, it will shatter them. Guild tag will not be worn with pride, but for shinies.
I’d personal;y hate to be in a guild with members who are there not because they like to play with each other and cooperate well, but because this was the place that offered better perks. What’s more, if i were to join such bigger guild, i know i wouldn’t feel any kinship with other members whatsoever. It wouldn’t feel like my guild at all.

Restrict forum access to active accounts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Astralporing.1957

I think you have a personal axe to grind, I see no problem with them wanting to allow anyone that has purchased the game and had an active account to continue to post on the forums. Also, as Pixelpumpkin pointed out above, they were unable to log into the game for 2 months due to personal reasons…just what exactly do you see as their attitude towards their customers anyways…other than being accommodating.

My problem was Mark admitting they considered restricting people who had purchased the game but had not been active from participating on the forums.

Oh, you’d rather he didn’t admit it? Because the fact they have considered it was a given.
Personally, i think Mark was really reasonable in his explanation, and i don’t get why it should cause such strong reaction.

Spoiler: Why did ANet kill...

Excuse me for thinking an excursion deep into hostile enemy territory where the big bad enemy destroyed the fleet without flinching might be wrought with peril.

Peril is one thing. Having someone die to the screenwriting equivalent of slipping on something and bashing your head in is another.

Kill the Queensdale champion train.

Astralporing.1957

I believe the main problem is that it creates a TERRIBLE first impression of the game for anybody who begins with a human character. (Which is the plurality choice.) Those champ train folks can get rather nasty in map chat.

Yes. A dead zone would be a way better impression, apparently.

What would ANET have to do to the least populated zones to get other players to actually want to go there and help other players out?

make those other places rewarding as well. Currently they aren’t (which is a sideeffect of series of drop nerfs that has been generously applied to every part of the game before Anet decided to change their policy on the issue).

Survey: Want Ascended Armors & Weapons?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Astralporing.1957

What’s the problem, if it takes a bit longer to get the best gear? What the hell is the problem? Almost all poeple are complaining, there is nothing to do after hitting 80. Anet introduces a new tier of gear (which I like) and the same poeple are now complaining that it takes too long to get it. BTW, it doesn’t take too long. actually after 1-2 months you are able to have most ascended stuff. That’s really not much for an MMO.

As it has been pointed out many times already, these are not the same people. Most of the original “no endgame” crowd has already left.

BTW, it doesn’t take too long. actually after 1-2 months you are able to have most ascended stuff.

For me it’s closer to 3-4 months. Per one char (i have 8 of them). And not all of the Ascended stuff is out yet.
Do the count.
(it’s not only unrealistically long, it’s also currently long enough that i can reasonably expect that i’ll have to change my build before i complete a gear set.)

The people that complain about ascended gear being too much grind are the casual, loud-mouthed crybaby demographic that travel from game to game, never spending more than a couple weeks playing.

More like the people that asked for the ascended gear with heavy grind were “elyte” loud-mouthed whining demographics that travel from game to game, never satisfied, always leaving soon, because the game is “not hardcore enough” and “lacks proper endgame” (Hint: and no endgame is big enough and hardcore enough for them).
The all-demanding MMO-jumping crowd is not casuals, but hardcore. people that get bored after a month of two, because they already managed to do everything that was to do in a game. They do not invest their time in the game, because they do not care about story or immersion.
They are the content locust. Not casuals. And the ascended gear in this game is also their doing.

Dangerous precedent: Watchwork Pick

so how much ranting is needed to get a response from Anet about this P2W kitten?

. . . where’s the “win” getting paid for? Aren’t sprockets tradeable?

It’s really not about p2w at all. Even the fact that this pick can produce sprockets is a least problem here. The real trouble comes from the fact that it is undeniably superior to the molten and bone pick. That means, i just can’t be certain buying anything from the shop, that tomorrow an new, Improved version will not show up making that one i bought obsolete.
It is, as someone already mentioned, something akin to a gear treadmill, only with shop items.
