TC. I love you.but lets not pollute this match thread we aren’t in …. I’m sure we will have plenty of time to exchange pleasantries in the near future.
Note: I am not talking about megaserver dynamic maps.
Was just thinking of ways to deter bandwagoning …
What if each server could only get X+10 players on a map based on the lowest populated server?
Server A has 100 players trying to get on EB.
Server B has 65 players trying to get on EB
Server C has 50 players on EB
Server A and B would only be allowed to have 60 players on map unless Server C added more players.
A queue would result for any over the 60 cap, added to incrementally as each new player joins the map from Server C.
If players from Server C leave the map, further reducing lowest pop numbers, then players on A and B remain, but if they crash or leave, that spot is removed.
People hate queues.
Would this motivate to spread out, at least for some, if they can’t consistently get their whole guild on map; or can’t get on as a single player?
Here’s an idea. Why not let people play the game the way they’d like?
Give respect, get respect.
I heard if you own all three keeps on their BL, HB will be forced to RP all week.
Yes thank you for this. We are all so quick to be critical of errors in the past .. we should be equally vocal about appreciation when things are done this way.
If they make WvW like EoTM, I will just stop playing it.
Half the beauty of WvW is creating and nurturing a team that you can rely on over time.
Only a WvW player watches The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies, and mentally commends Thorin for his double-tap dodge in the epic orc lord fight.
Personally I think we should all make a big 3-server marching parade with Appledainty at the end of this week and walk with her and her Dolyak.

Blow up, link, whatever you’d please — only do it in NA. The whole new system was implemented because players refused to spread out in NA, and it completely borked EU which was fine prior.
Do all the new shinies for NA. They want it.
Wanted to add:
38. You can only have 10 emails from other players in your inbox at one time. If you don’t delete them you won’t receive any new ones.
Fabulous list btw

Get some patients and give the Dev’s a chance to fix it.
Ah that explains the MIA status of the WvW devs. They’re going to med school.
Yes if you go to
http://www.guildwars2roleplayers.com/
You’ll get an idea of events going on .. I’m not an RPer myself, but I believe the community is open to any who want to come visit.
Does TC have EU guilds or just massive pop that goes in from differen guilds as militia?
We have pretty good coverage by guilds in EU/Oceanic/NA. The guild groups are also buffed by PuGs as well. Some of our SEA/Oceanic/EU guilds are kinda on the small side, but have good leaders that PuGs seem to follow. Our late NA is just huge, obviously. We queue three maps some nights…
Militia dear. Militia. The term pug is used by servers that don’t realize their value. We value our militia completely, they are the backbone of our forces out there.
The only reward you need is the rage whispers from your opponent.
Shhhh I’m trying to seduce Choo…..
Choo and Red Guard …. Hey fellahs,, have I told you how handsome you are? * wink, wink
Not sure why it’s called smoke bomb in your hit log tho … I run a mesmer.
It’s actually kind of hard to trigger, when you go down it’s timed out unless the enemy “forgets” about you and you have a chance to heal, it’s hard to even use it. Most times you’re dead before you even get a chance to click it.

So: You have a guild scattered across many servers and you want to jump to a “full” server to play because, well, you’re all part of a guild? Thereby circumventing the “full” status – and potentially pushing out smaller guilds and players from maps by taking up their spots in map?
No. Sorry.
If you truly all want to play together for WvW, you have to decide collectively as a guild whether WvW is important to you. If it is, then you need to transfer down to an open server so you can all play together.
Not jam into an already full one.
If WvW isn’t that important to you, then you can carry on spread out across multiple servers.
P.S. You CAN all get together in EoTM, assuming you’re all green/all red/all blue.
Now this OP was well written. Well done.
After radio silence for so many years, I’m quite encouraged by all the willingness to get feedback. It establishes a registered (democratic) history and squashes the “if I yell loud enough I’ll get my way” crowd that has wreaked havoc in so many MMOs.
I’m a fan.
Night capping needs to be fixed through population balancing. Not artificial multipliers.
amen to this. some matchups are just plain bad and boring when 1 server plays at one time of day and the other(s) play at another time of the day….
Thankfully it’s within your power to do that! Get like-minded guilds to spread out through the tiers!
Won’t do it? Well it’s the only way to get what you want. The choice is yours.
Otherwise be thankful Anet came up with an outside the box idea. You can’t expect Anet to play parent and force people to spread out for match parity, it’s like herding cats. They’d just get things nicely balanced and the mass migration would ensue again.
Be the change you want to see.
Dear Tier 1,
You all owe me a massive pile of cookies for sending all the cranky kids down to Tier 2.
Hrmph.
Oof. Can we just close this thread already?
*sings…
“I like big blobs and I cannot lie,
you other brothers can’t denyyyy
When a blob bursts in, with an itty bitty tail
And the stragglers run like snails, oh
You get sprung, want to pull up tough
But ouch, thems condition’s rough
That stealth has made me daring
I’m hooked and I can’t stop staring
Oh baby, I want to get wit’cha
And stake your sista
My homeboys tried to warn me
But with that blob you got makes (me so …)”
If you can’t be bothered to sweep for a mesmer after you take an objective (because “it takes too long and wastes time”), then it’s your own fault if it flips. If the objective is important for your team, then you stay until it’s cleared.
Otherwise, if you are more concerned with the k-train and blobbing, do so.
Someone please send Gaile a big bottle of wine? This doesn’t appear to be a one glass day.
Ok we all know Anet has a long and storied history of doing some pretty creative and often hilarious stuff on this day, so what would you LOVE to see them do in WvW, if only for the one day?
Here’s my list:
- dolyaks strike back! Those gentle, passive dolyaks have frankly had it with all the slaughter. On April Fool’s Day, the minute a dolyak head butts you …. be it on the road, in a supply camp, or grazing peacefully in a field …. You are transformed into a dolyak yourself for 10 minutes.
- alternately … Instead of the dolyak transform … If you try to kill a dolyak, it summons every dolyak on the map to rush in, trample you in a big cloud of dust, and trots off after …. Leaving you face down in the dirt.
- trebs and catas deploy cookies, not boulders. This will make everyone work double time because instead of killing your enemy, you’re feeding them. One day of cookie trebs and catas means alternate strategy for attacking
- siegerazer instead of being super powered, wanders up to the gate drunk, and passes out.
- golems can /dance!
Ok that’s a start for me … Any other ideas?
Anet I’m behind you.
Don’t cave.
There’s a lot like us out here that feel the same way.
Things that come too easily are soon forgotten. It’s not a grind, it’s a challenge — and if you really want the new item, you’ll put in the time.
Nobody NEEDS the new shiny to play. It’s a choice. Invest the time or not.
As for getting the fairweathers out when things are not so pretty. Here’s what I did all week, while we were winning, and seeing our maps filled to the brim with new bodies:
Every morning at 11 am EST, I would run a short 10-minute WvW clinic — just the basics, but I took the time to answer questions and outline some of the most simple concepts of WvW so that new folks coming in felt more comfy.
I would advertise these clinics about ten minutes before I started them in all the major cities and hubs, and when folks arrived, I’d be patient and actually run them to various spots on the map, so that it wasn’t just a verbal lecture, but a visual one, too.
Over the weekend, I got two people each day. During the week, in the time period that we need more bodies, I was lucky to get 10 or more each day. If we retain even 5% of those new folks into our Tier 2 match, when things are tougher, I will consider it a minor victory. If we don’t, then I got to spend some pleasant time with some nice people.
But the key is organizing, being pleasant, most of all patient, and understanding that the toughest part for a new player coming into a WvW map is that they pretty much feel helpless because they don’t know how things work.
Having a real, live body there to explain and answer is a way to establish not only a welcoming community, but a foundation of people doing WvW the proper way. Fewer mistakes that way, confidence is gained as results are seen, and siege is placed out of the way of enemy aoe, lol.
A more passive learning system for new folks is to have a daily map trivia during “down” times. Have the vets shout out in /map tips and tricks they learned in WvW. Remember to start with the very basics, like the difference between a tower and keep and supply camp on the map and how to distinguish the difference. You’ll laugh, but folks new to WvW won’t have a clue what the difference is and how it can impact WvW.
Just a suggestion for the Mags folks when they hit T4 and start getting their fairweather folks again. Take advantage of the numbers and take time to teach. It’s highly likely you guys are already doing this, but I’m just letting you know what seemed to work well for me this week.
Ay mag? Didn’t you enjoy t4? Why you back? lol
Are you kidding. Home is wherever DB is… Kind of miss FA, though… Particularly since next week they’ll have sent Kaening down to meet us.
Kaineng will give us a proper match up thread. Look forward to it!
Hate to break it to you .. Kaineng is just as silly as we are now
Jayne, I love you guys in TC with all my heart, thank you for trying to bring some fun to this thread. I would pick one but I don’t really know any of those people >.<
Choo is welcome on TC any time they’d like. You guys always behave with dignity and respect, and some good ol’ fashioned teasing. You’d be a good fit.
Three exits. Four different maps.
Split up and have them come chase you; it dilutes their blob.
Then stomp them
/adds Reaven to friends list. Kills him over and over.
/bows.
This thread will not end well…. Lol.
These are all great ideas! I’m a bit sad this thread got (properly) moved to the suggestions area, I was hoping it’d stay in WvW and lighten things up in there a bit. Ah well.
Anet was kind enough to give us a lovely ignore feature for trolls.
I got the same “submit a bug report” reply when I was having issues with whisper/party chat not functioning in game for a week. Other players posted here in the forum at least got a “we know of this issue and are working on it” reply to their tickets. This response on a basic functionality in game made me feel like I had to solve the issue myself, when I had no way of doing that. And the chat system not working in game is not something I think another player could resolve. It’s not a good feeling (and you know I adore you Gaile, just suggesting this CS response is off putting and makes you feel like you’re stuck without help).

Dear Kodash,
Karma caught up with me for the harpie thing. I was hiding in your garrison for 10 mins after you flipped it back, all pleased with myself. Ready to portal our guys in …. when one of your guys spotted me and started the fight …. which was going ok …. until I dodged rolled myself backwards off a cliff to my death.
Golems can be bought with badges, that are gotten from .. flipping towers/killing players.
It won’t deplete the supply.
It may get rid of long-existing dupes tho from previous patch bugs.
As I’ve said numerous times. Ask an old timer TC player about Fascinating Gift.
The troll siege cap was how it was in the past. The one hour siege refresh essentially quashed that.
A three hour refresh timer will see a resurgence in this behaviour and effectively render you impotent to defend at all.
That said. Gosh, really going to bow out of this thread now because it appears you can’t seem to understand the implications. And we keep circling the same discussion without the lightbulb going off.

Want to compliment SBI. Every post ive read from your members has been thoughtful, non-aggressive and often funny (that solo Asura pix and “we’re fine” comment will forever make me chuckle). Even in the face of some pretty devastating turnover this past week, you all have maintained your dignity. We could all learn from their example.

since when wvw players care about reward? that is so pve……
Lol was about to say…
… Hear that thunder of 1,000 hooves?! It’s pvers flocking to WVW to complain, ktrain and get the new shinies … Then trample off never to return once attained.
Any time I hear someone reference EVE, I recall long, drama-filled stories about people manipulating the system to their own benefit and not caring about anyone else but themselves or their immediate circle.
Which is nice, but irrelevant, and doesn’t alter that games like EVE that don’t have individual servers can have stronger communities than games like this with separate worlds/servers, and therefore the idea there is no community/identity without being attached to a world/server is utter nonsense.
What? Do WoW or EQ franchises not use servers?
Which part of a “myriad of reasons” rather than specifically down to server based worlds are you are having difficulty with?
Ok, how are you going to prevent faction bandwagonning/stacking? How will factions prevent people from doing exactly what they’ve been doing with the server system?
If you cannot prevent stacking, then what’s the point of factions? It’ll result in the same situation, just with different lipstick.
Under some systems you don’t need balanced populations as much, because those systems can handle the negative effects on the gameplay much better.
For example if you have a game like ESO with 3 factions that uses a campaign system, where players/guilds choose one campaign of several to join for the duration of the matchup, then if say the red faction overall has the least players, it can still get fun competitive matchups by stacking a couple of campaigns and have the same numbers in those campaigns as the more populous factions.
It also has other advantages, in that guilds that like to fight can all join a certain campaign, those that like to do the equivalent of PPT can join a certain campaign, those that like a sparsely populated type of gameplay can go join a low population campaign, etc, all things WvW struggles with due to its rigid system.
Now if you want a system that produces better population balance, one example is you can use an alliance system of guilds, you prevent stacking by limiting the max numbers in a guild, solo players can get assigned to a general alliance guild based on their friendlist, etc, this way you are dealing with much smaller units and can dynamically assign players/guilds to an alliance for each matchup, to provide a more balanced match, obviously in a system like that identity/community is built around guilds, much in the way it is in WvW for a lot of players whose “loyalty” is to their guild, not whichever server they happen to be on at that time.
And how well is ESO doing? And if it’s superior, why are you here?
Your proposition for alliance restrictions can be easily employed to the existing server system, without alienating the existing playerbase.
Change for change sake is never a good idea.
The whole solo players can fill in the gaps indicates a basic lack of understanding of wvw GW2 gameplay. Those single players and small guilds are your server’s defense team. Split them up and you’ll get a pve champ train map and nothing else. Both sides need to exist for wvw to work.
What you are proposing STILL doesn’t resolve the core issue: stacking. The end result, as I’ve said, is the same thing with different lipstick. Plus the added bonus of ticking off the loyalists,
In any event, this debate is academic, at best. A poll would best determine results.

Who wants red show of hands
Only if I get overlook.
Oh wait, you mean the mega server crap.
No thanks.
I know plenty of guilds with their own TS/voice comm servers.
Will they let non-guild members use it?
Large groups of players who mindlessly follow the tag should not have an advantage over smaller groups who coordinate their movements and team comp.
I count 10 players in this smaller group
That’s just one example, there are plenty of other great organized groups that don’t let the blob have the advantage. In fact I’d argue organized groups have the advantage more often.
You can, too
Missing soldier’s ori inscription for sale at vendor (as indicated in patch notes) as well.
Remarkable matchup, it finally feels like everyone has some footing, making the game that much more enjoyable. The fights have been unbelievable and both our enemies have some stellar techniques. Kudos!
For those keeping track, here’s the score:
I was wondering how TC got an 8k lead. I was also wondering why Kain BL was left alone last night from TC but TC BL and FA BL was all red. Hmmm, coincidental? I’m not saying there was 2v1, I’m just calling out factual observation just looking at the maps last night.
Most likely. I’ll explain a few things (for context, I am a fort aspenwoody and I wvw with our server very frequently):
If Server 1 is focusing Server 2, it’s bad for Server 3 to focus Server 2. Why? because they’ll draw the ire of Server 1, and Server 2 is most likely smart enough to know that in order to get more points, you have to be on the delivering side of the 2 v 1.
Hence, whichever server is getting focused by another (Kain focuses FA, TC focuses FA) the server that isn’t focusing or getting focused…is likely to attack the server getting focused (i.e. other server focuses FA).
Here’s another fact:
FA is second place.
Kaineng is first place
TC is third place. This was true in terms of points this round up until very very recently. Now, TC (formerly third) knows they cannot beat Kaineng. So what will they do? They’re pretty close in points to FA, so they’re going to play smartly for second place.
What about Kaineng? Well, they are already first, so they want to enlarge the gap between them and the second place server. Why would it make sense attacking the third place server, drawing their ire, and possibly getting double teamed and losing many points off their lead?
The point is, the second place server is very likely to get double teamed if the third place server is close in points to them.
and for those whining FA above, do not complain (I checked this morning and around 1PM EST Kaineng borderlands was half red, TC borderlands was half green, and FABL was almost completely blue. Wanna call double team again?). In case you are wondering, I am in Fort Aspenwood right now. I came here from Isle of Janthir and the last week where were in T3, FA did NOTHING but focus down Isle of Janthir because you wanted to play for second. Hence, you double teamed the second place team, because you wanted to play for second. Now that TC does this, you are crying like little babies.
It’s smart playing.
Anyways, for those who aren’t trolls/whiners/babies, I had a great time in FA BL this morning. It was fun defending both our northern towers from Kaineng. Props to you for nice fights, and for stopping our Bay Backcap against TC the first time around.
I have a lot of respect for you. Your posts are well thought out and intelligent and just put down all the facts and leave it at that without any agenda or angle.
