While I think that’s a great idea, only issue with that is which piece of siege in about 30 other pieces .. it narrows it down a ton, but still a scavenger hunt in the end.

Edited to add: personally I would love to be able to mouseover siege, like you do spells, and see the expiry timer on it.

It’s not inclusive enough. And will wind up presenting the same issues six months after it launches. It’s like putting lipstick on a pig.

But it clearly won’t have the same issues. The issues of population and the lack of flexibility would definitely be lessened.

Until:

• each of those groups were manipulated to capacity,
• then internal group drama where someone gets kicked out, or another group wants to join,
• then forum complaints about no room or they’ve been pushed out, because
• we’ve seen, historically, that people want the easy face roll,
• then one or two dominant stacked teams roll over everyone else, (remember the matchmaking system assesses guilds as a means to determine matches, and keeps the most evenly matched together — week after week after week),
• then those one or two groups start complaining that there’s no fights, as they roll over unorganized pug groups …

And then guess what? Stale matches, predictable week after week matches, personal pride battles that satisfy a small minority of those in control of the dominant groups and leave everyone else out, and we are back to where we are now. Only worse. People just give up because the community they once had no longer exists to keep them tied to the game.

People are not thinking this through.

This model highly favours GvG groups. A demographic assessment needs to be done to determine if these groups are stable enough to sustain the model. Because once you eliminate the casuals, they won’t come back.

I’ve had a ticket into Anet about this for two weeks now. Last message back from them “they had accelerated it to look into the issue further” and that was nearly a week ago … I have to reset my password literally every day now. Still no solution.

I thought I had a fix with it by not checking the “remember password” thing, but that appears to have been a temporary fix. I am still stuck with having to reset password every day. Would love an answer on this.

Meanwhile … as wars are being waged both on the forums and in game, four former enemies took a moment to celebrate with a small picnic on the shores of PSBL.

We met up and flew our kites, the quaggans all coo-ed, they were delighted!

Then we had a big chocolate cake. YUM! And did a bit of sunbathing before we took a dip in the cool waters of the lake. Swimming was fun, Pinky Thief was the best swimmer, even with his little legs.

Finally, we checked out the wildlife, and pet a soft, gentle dolyak. We even did a little dance to sing the praises of this gentle beast.

It was a lovely day and a lovely picnic.

I spent five straight hours yesterday in WvW JUST ticking siege. Five straight hours. This is not fun.

On any server there are only a handful of dedicated folks who do this. If these people take a break, or go for lunch, chances are when they come back all that siege will be gone. It’s incumbent on our servers to relegate this more so that it’s just not three or four people constantly doing this … but upping the despawn timer to an hour would make a MASSIVE difference, and maybe allow these folks a chance to get out and fight more, rather than be chained to a keep, or madly running the entire map to ensure there’s proper defense.

I think you misunderstand the FA philosophy when you say stuff like this. Kain can recruit whoever and whenever they want. That’s not a question. And we will fight whoever and whenever they are on.

But it puts Kain in a funny spot. You treat them like children when they are not. And then when a players suggest its given some time, they get attacked for even speaking.

looks like FA and TC like to work together agaist DB. No its not because we are in first place, it happens even when we are in second or third. of course its not the entire server but I wonder if some guilds from FA and TC are using the same ts to plan atks in DB.

Lol there was a time during the first week DB was in tier two that the DB Zerg would attack Wildcreek and lure the TC Zerg into moles cave like a bad man with a van and some candy. Then FA would come in literally a minute later and flank the TC Zerg (who only wanted candy!). This happened four times in a row within an hour. Four times, lol!

To the regular player did it look like DB and FA HAD to be in ts together to coordinate that? Of course. But what it likely was, was a good FA scout who watched it and called it out on map each time to flank and wipe the TC Zerg.

Until they resolve bandwaggoning, there is no “fix” for uneven matches. All the OPs suggestion would do is delay the inevitable and cause mass chaos in the process.

The best fix for bandwagoning is to disperse the overcongested top tier severs that double what the current population cap is. So long as population isn’t exploited again, bandwagoning will never be as bad as it currently is.

The biggest problem about opening up matchmaking to players, especially if free or cheap, is that it creates incentive to stack more. But then if you drive up prices, it makes it harder for smaller groups to even begin trying to assemble.

A wipe would only work by randomly allocating every player as an individual to a random server, but this would obviously destroy guilds and many sub-communities, which would also drop participation from WvW in general.

The only way to fix the problem is to link servers very frequently to a point where the only reliable allies are your server-mates (to increase server loyalty/community cohesion), and to allocate servers into mixed pools to balance the matches as best as possible, based on player data such as activity per time (AKA coverage), total combatants, number of fights, number of structure flips and their corresponding times, etc., even if this means doing something like having five low-tier servers allied together on one side versus two from T2 versus one from T1.

Without this kind of system, stagnation and stacking and/or the massive destruction of WvW and its communities is guaranteed.

Limiting WvW to one set of maps would drastically increase queues, and having 12 identical maps in one matchup is redundant. Splitting up every guild and community isn’t important when you can arrange with friends to pick a server you like the sound of. Wiping out the existence of the existing tiers, if only until top guilds form alliances, will make matches more competitive. Even if guild alliances exist, it comes down to player interaction and politics, which is more interesting than a giant of cluster of people stuck on the same server forever.

Once the population is “dispersed” how will you prevent people from switching servers?

Why shouldn’t people switch servers? People shouldn’t be trapped on the server they move to. The only things that need to be done is to keep the populations at a reasonable cap, so that bg or tc 2.0 doesn’t happen and put a timegate on how often somebody can transfer. The movement of people will be a major part of what prevents stagnation.

if you’re not rank 3000 by now, there’s no way in seven realms of oblivion and the gazing abyss behind it that you can complete the wooden chest in one week.

No need for the hyperbole. I finished Silver on an account with rank 780 in 6-8 hours of WvW by getting either 3 pips per tick (2 for rank, 1 for third place) or 8 with outnumbered buff.

Except when youre on a skritt server that is just active enough to never have the outnumbered bonus, but inactive enough to always fail, so im cursed with 1 pip per tick, meaning i have to sacrifice my entire working week for getting the wooden chest, and thats just ridiculously disproportionate

I have a level 150 ish alt on a server that’s often in third place. I can expect 3 pips at a time, one for rank, one for placement, one for loyalty. I usually get the wood chest at the end of the first nights guild raid.

I don’t see how getting wood on a low level account can take an entire work week. Where is my math wrong here?

At 1 pip per tick, that’s 500 minutes. Assuming that you only get one pip per tick the entire time.

500 minutes = 8.33 hours.

That’s a little over 2 hours a day for four days.

Do I think that’s too much time for the wood chest? Yes.

But that’s not an entire work week, unless you work a lot less in a week than I do.

Do that for one week.
The next week, you’ll get the loyalty pip, which will get you 2 pips a tick. So 250 minutes, or a bit over 4 hours. Now you’re down to 2 2-ish hour runs, again assuming only 2 pips per tick.

If i work all week i have an hour, maybe 2 in the evening. I dont always want to dedicate all my evenings to one game, much less one game mode. 8 hours on a weekend day is also harsh, i want to go out with my friends on the weekends.
In pve i can do bits of things, the rewards pile up.
In pvp i can do bits of things, the rewards pile up.
In wvw i can’t do bits of things because only complete things are rewarded and then reset.

Now that I think about, wouldnt it make sense for the pips to reset every 4 weeks with the matchmaking, rather than weekly? Just like the pvp track resets per season and not per week

I dont support kitten commanders. I’ll give a commander a chance if they are new, because obviously the server can always use more commanders, but, since the matchup with DB, lets say I’ve followed around 6 diffrent commanders (My available playtime changes each day). One of them did not even have a “commander” icon, I just happened to notice a bunch of folks in the same guild standing around together (KH) and asked if they were in voicechat. What happened next? kitten got done. 10-15 people ran around, and got kitten done, quickly, efficiently, and more effectivley then whatever dorito that was running around at the time. Of the other 5, that actually had icon, only 2 of them actually used voice chat. If your running with a large zerg, you need to coordinate, quickly. Voicechat. If it’s DB’s primetime, and NNK is owning our BL, the commander needs to be in voicechat. You would THINK that knowing that would be part of commanding 101, but, hell, maybe it’s not. I’m not going to throw my support behind every tom, kitten, and harry that ran a few dungeons, got locky with some drops, and decided “hey, I want a commander tag”.

Why dont I do it myself? Because Idont abide failure, in myself, much less if I have to lead around a bunch of pugs. Ever follow around Deyja and hear him get kitten off, and say something along the lines of “TC needs to step the kitten up right now, what the kitten was that?!” I suspect the majority of my fellow players just say something along the lines of “Oh, what an kitten, he’s being mean, I’m here to have fun”. Where as I’m thinking “He’s right, that last wipe was pathetic, we need to step our kitten up. What could I have done better in that situation” Keep in mind, defeat is diffrent then failure, to me. I’d rather be defeated, knowing “well, kitten, I got outplayed at my best” then mucking something up because of laziness and incompitance. However, I’m on TC. It’s an RP server, I get that. People are not in WvW to collect FA loot bags or outflank DB zergs. Some people want to sit around and watch the BL get taken over, shrug, and pop some fireworks, have a picnic. I’m more of the mind of “Welp, our BL is kitten, time to get on my roaming gear, see if anyone is organized in voicechat, and go slap some yaks”(Ever roam as a warrior? We do not have nice sexy vanishing acts, it’s all about getting lucky with a burst if I see another player.). Obviously I’m not a people person, which is needed in order to command. I might not want/be fit to command, but it does not take a rocket scientist to see a good commander from a bad one. Besides, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. If a commander gets kitten done, well, who can argue with that?

As far as the doubleteaming getting old, well, I agree. It is getting old. Perhaps you were not around when TC had to fend off DB and FA at hills for hours on end. I was, however. It’s also not difficult to press “M” at any random time and notice the diffrence between our BL and FA’s or DB’s. Maybe once a day DB will push into FA’s map, just to give them a taste, but, things go right back to normal. Pathetic. That’s ok though. I was around during the SOR and Blackgate days. I’m used to huge zergs running around and not a coaster to be seen, or having picnics. I’ll have a delicious Yak burger with a side some lonely sentry point, or, if I’m lucky, take a camp after awhile.

TL;DR Commanders should use voice chat, for whatever reason, if they are not just kittening about. Inwitt is not your freind, and is preatty much an kitten. Deal wit it.

To the OP, a one-off day of him doing this they can’t really do anything about unfortunately. Take pix, document it and keep it. If he repeats this for several days in a row, take more screen shots/fraps, document it and file a support ticket. Particularly useful is screengrabs of any chat of him saying he’s doing it on purpose — that’s in map or whispers.

People rage like this all the time. Thankfully for most it’s usually just the one day of it.

Pretty much every server out there used to run zerg, siege and scouting clinics for all new incomers. It may be time for each collective server to revisit that, invest the time, and set up a schedule of events, and invest in your community.

Maguuma is pretty much the antisec of GW2.

If there’s a breach/bug to be found, they’ll exploit it .. but do so in an over-the-top-you-can’t-miss-it kinda way.

In effect they draw faster dev attention to the issue than a thousand thread posts would ever do.

They only seem to emergency patch things when it affects the economy/dupes … Hoping it yanks someone in to stop this whole mess …

Yeah I don’t personally care what we get, we have no chance of getting 1st, but I do understand for some players a big shiny reward is motivation to get out there and fight for their server. There does have to be some reward to fight hard. Giving everyone the same thing would be demotivating (the “why bother” or “just do as little as needed” clause). But then I’m one who chose community over reward. Not everyone is like that though and that’s perfectly fine, too. At least there were options way ahead of time to suit both types.

I’ll still congratulate the winners regardless of what “prize” I get.

I see the opposite, NA especially T1 for a time, was the closest thing to a competitive matchup in this game, NA complained about stale matchups, EU complained about nightcapping, because for most of the game NA had better coverage and more stable matchups, whilst in EU it was far more common to have matches decided by servers ticking silly amounts off-peak.

I think you might want to reevaluate your definitions.

Stale matches are not competitive. It means you’re getting the exact same match every week, which leads to the complaints and boredom.

EU was/still changes every week. Our former T1 EU server that was never moving from its top seat was recently unseated and is now down in T6 or so. When is the last time you saw that happening in NA?

Most of this centers on the community’s surrounding those matchups. Each has its own unique identity.

Disagree. If you’ve been around since launch, you know that the bulk of the complaints came from NA about stacking. There were thread upon thread asking people to join T1 NA servers. Guilds went down into the lower tiers and actively recruited good players, leaving the lower tiers barren.

That didn’t happen so much in EU. Yep guilds jumped from server to server, but it was mostly for fights and they self-organized.

People complained about nightcapping, yes, but we still saw a healthy and robust WvW scene in EU with changing matches each week.

You didn’t see that in NA .. at all.

As for server-orientated, I don’t see it, I have three accounts, and on every server (EU) the number of WvW players who have been on that server the entire game is a minority, take FSP, there are many players from SFR & Deso, players from Piken, AG, Gunnars, etc (half of which were not at these servers originally either), most fighting guilds have swapped servers multiple times in this game, PPT zombies all bandwagon to whichever is number 1 zombie PPT server, server loyalty or community is for the minority.

Yup, you do get the ppt folks and the gvg guilds .. but if you talk to every one of those gvg guilds, you’ll find they identify at least one server as “home.”

If you haven’t discovered that each server has its own unique community then perhaps you haven’t spent time getting to know the people there and simply join the big blob on maps.

I know people from various servers all over EU tiers. Each of them love their server for various reasons.

I happen to like Piken because I know that even if we’re rank 2 or rank 10, there will be a set group of people who will continue to come out and play and make the community fantastic. There’s one thing that is funny about Piken and makes it unique: The more we’re winning, the less the vets show up. When we’re losing, our vets come out in droves. I adore that about Piken, keeps us scrappy

Nor is “community” unique to a server type system like you seem to think, EVE Online has a megaserver with alliances, and its community is far stronger with much more depth than GW2’s will ever be.

And EVE has an incredible reputation for players who like to “game” others, so that in effect, the game is more than just pixels and more of a mind game. No thanks. I’ve seen enough of that effort tried here and it’s toxic.

Well… use to mostly get those complaints when world completion had to be done in wvw, but not anymore.

That only really mattered for map completion, which has been removed.

I’ve found using a bit of humour and patience gets me all the bodies I need when I ask for help, and I’ve never had a commander icon (never really wanted one). People will naturally want to help/work together if the person asking is kind or funny …. Or even kinda funny

I wonder how many posters in this thread actually play WvW and how many hours a day/week. Feels like a lot of weekend warriors responding, who don’t understand the true dynamic of this aspect of the game.
