Only a WvW player will run around naked fighting because they ran out of money to repair.
Only a WvW player will sacrifice skillpoints to build superior siege.
Only a WvW player will spend hours escorting a dolyak, or running supply, because the team needs it.
Fact: The gvg happened on an empty map, with no queues.
Fact: The event happened on a Thursday before reset, when there was a decided winner and the servers involved already had issues getting people to log in and fight.
Fact: Where the gvg’s happen is way down in the southern end of the map, far away from any towers/supply camps/keeps or any other objective needed to be flipped for WvW strategy and ppt.
Fact: The Anet employee parked himself untagged in the middle of what was a player-organized event and would not move.
Fact: The Anet employee only popped his tag after people asked him to move and then said “I’m watching you guys violate my game mode.”
How exactly were these guys violating your “game mode”? They were far away from interfering with any objective flipping or defense. They were on a map that was not queued or causing issues for players to get into. People can have their own opinions about gvg and its place in WvW, but in this particular instance any of the regular protestations (taking up queue space, etc) were moot.
This guy owes the community and these particular players an apology. What he was doing was pure griefing, considering their event did not prohibit this Anet employee from capping objectives or playing the way he wanted to play. However, he was preventing others from playing the way THEY wanted to play.
I was wondering how many of you, over the years, have witnessed this phenomena?
I’ve seen it happen with at least five or six games that have sputtered out and died because of this social media tool.
What happens, is that a group bands together and those who yell the loudest and longest, tend to get their way — regardless of whether it benefits the game or not. Developers of various games have reinforced this behaviour by caving to demands, often just to get players to quiet down. Over the years, players have been conditioned that if you don’t yell, you get nothing. It’s endemic in most MMO gaming forums.
So we are left with this kind of abrasive mode of communication, where the developer turtles and the playerbase gets more angry. To the point that any kind of interaction winds up being antagonistic, regardless.
What’s concerning about this, and as I’ve said, I’ve watched it happen on multiple MMO forums over the years is the fallout from what I call the “appeasement plan.”
Players yell and scream for X change. The developer assesses the largest volume of voice on a forum and makes a decision based on X demand. Over the years, players have learned that you don’t have to be in the majority, you just have to be loud — and pushy. The squeaky wheel and all that.
The worst part? After the changes are implemented, the ones who were yelling the loudest usually bail for other games once they see the plan fail. And the game ultimately suffers because the devs were trying to “listen to its playerbase.”
It’s no skin off the teeth of those who were yelling if they leave the game for somewhere else. They only care if they get their way. And if it fails, no big, there’s always another game out there.
TL;DR: I would highly recommend that while the forums are great to get feedback from the most ardent fans of the game, that Anet actually offers an in-game poll by game mail, asking each player to give input to what they’d like to see in changes. (And be prepared to alter existing plans if the data goes against current programming changes). Any time a player logs in, they are given this poll about potential changes, and can click off multiple choice radio buttons of what they prefer. This absolves the company of reacting (stomping out fires) to vocal manipulation and social engineering on forums. It also gives them an accurate head count of interest to proposed changes.
It just seems to me to be the more sensible thing to do.
1. Rewarding more for defense.
You were wearing red, I was wearing pink. We encountered each other near the steps to the castle. While I appreciate how intensely it appeared you wanted to meet me, I found you a little grabby. I’m sorry I had to smack you like that, but you wouldn’t take no for an answer. Next time, maybe play a little hard to get?
You’re driving along and you see this and think…..
A: nice treb placement
B: those could probably hit SM
You should indicate your server in case it’s only happening on yours? It’ll help them track it down better.
Prepare the forums for the incoming “Anet is forcing me (a pver) to play wvw! Worst game! Dead game! Unacceptable! Literally unplayable!”
To be fair, WvWers have been saying this for years now.
Can I make a tiny request that Nintendo’s Duck Hunt music pops up every time you load the ballista?
Reset gold Tier 1 match:
No queues on most Piken maps.
SFR players reporting zero queues .. on EB.
Yup.
Not for sale from the NPC vendor, but a needed component for a recipe. Anyone know where to get it? Or was this just something overlooked?
See pix
Lol mag and DR,, inc tier 1 stacking
Proof that Anet secretly loves Mags.
How about: Removed entirely.
lower tier servers. YOUR CONTRIBUTION STILL MATTERS. I know it seems like a bummer your glicko seems frozen, but you’re with the other server for 3months, kicken kitten , getting to know eachother. besides, it may result in you being matched up with your server again!
p.s. looking forward to working with the people of eredon terrace
This is the right way to promote!
WvW fixed?
——————————————————————————————————yup, we got the /facepalm emote now.. all is saved!!
At least we can show our indignation now.
Yes, but is it righteous?
The only thing that drives me nuts about warriors is their massive speed escape buff they use when fighting out in the field .. those buggers can get down to 5% and still escape, even with a good number chasing and cc’ing.
I’d quote myself from three weeks ago ….. Instead I’ll just link this from Sept. 29:
I’d just like to make a note of one thing that I think people aren’t considering when they transfer to stacked worlds. You will not, repeat will not, be able to receive the reward based on overall world place in the league, unless you achieve the meta achievement for the season. If you aren’t able to get into WvW much, you won’t get the rewards. So it is absolutely taking a risk to transfer to a world that has a large WvW population.

Besides map adjustments, we have also replaced Ballista’s fourth skill with an anti-air bolt skill that shoots people out of the air and immobilizes them for a short duration.
I’ve said this every time it’s brought up: Only if I can shoot you out of the sky and watch you drop like a lead balloon.
Sniff. I feel like I’ve been given a very glorious gift.
It’s going to be spectacular!
Also this thread feels like residents rioting over a change from green jello to yellow jello at a senior’s home. Actually wait to see how it works folks; the sky is falling stuff is such a waste of energy.
Only a WvW player knows chest thumping is not restricted to gorillas.

I understand you guys try to be silly or whatever but it paints your server as not being serious about wvw.
I think we’re ok with that. It’s kind of fun that a silly RP server made it to Tier 2 and is still managing to hold its own. It’s a source of pride for us to be honest .. that we can have fun and still be competitive and respectful to our opponents.
I present to you TCBL theater, featuring the guilds and militia of TC.
Scene opens
Defender: Oh look, it’s 4pm, everyone shut out the lights! Quickly now!
Defender 2: Shhh, keep quiet! Stop giggling, they’ll hear us!
Defender 3: Did someone bring in the cake? After four days in a row of this, we MUST serve cake!
Defender: Yeah the cake’s all set up and we’re hiding inside it.
Defender 5: Someone’s touching me!
Defender 2: Gah, I got icing in my hair!
Defender 3: Shhhh! They’ll hear us!
DB comes onto map at the same darn time as the previous four days.
Defender 2: They’re here!
Defender 4: *giggles
Defender: Ok everyone out of the cake!!
In unison: SURPRISE!!!
*all defenders bow
/scene ends.
My +500 far shiver peaks EotM friends wanna come sfr. They said that they don’t wanna die whole time and need karma.
Calling these threads for what they are. Well done
I’m still waiting for the day when the dolyaks revolt and the minute you attack one they summon every single dolyak on the map, trample you into the ground, and trot off.
Lol we had a thief spend an hour making our wp contested …. He kept invising, and given how tough this class is to kill, changing the timer on the wp to make it contested longer will only be abused/exploited. At least with the way it is now, players get a millisecond to port in and help when this kind if thing us being done. Its a very very narrow window. We finally got the thief, but it took four of us (slippery bugger) …. And he only wound up coming back again. If you’re going to extend the timer on contested, it’s only fair you make a thief lose invis if he takes damage

You enjoy small tier game play, that’s good, the bls still allow for that. It is 2 days after reset on the weekend and a wvw patch, your queues will go down. Wvw is finally alive again and there are fights, or ppt if that’s what you prefer, you can roam/havoc in the bls, zerg in eb, idk what you people are all crying so much for. Server loyalty died years ago.
There are tons of people who’s sole motivation is server pride and loyalty and the community that’s evolved from it.
I"m hoping Anet comes up with a way to let people keep wearing their server tags, even when combined. It won’t be that confusing. Red = enemy, no matter the tag name.
You absolutely have a right to kill whomever you want.
Not attacking them is more something of respect for different play styles.
If you choose not to respect another’s playstyle, then they have equal right to just come after you and kill you, over and over again.
Most duellers duel to improve skill set so they are the best they can be at their class.
You decide “if it’s red, it’s dead” is worth it.
In my day we put in 12-hour days in WvW, dumped our scarce gold into upgrades, all without ANY rewards —- AND WE LIKED IT!
Posted in our match thread by Atoss from FSP.
Can’t stop laughing.
Think it’s much needed after this week.
God love EU players.

The funny thing is, nobody owes anyone any explanation for how they play the game — any server included. Justifying it just encourages the trolls.
Get in game, let your moves on the battlefields justify decision-making. Pat the trolls on the head and encourage them to do the same.
Trying to validate/justify anything on the Internet is about the equivalent of going up to a brick wall and bashing your head against it repeatedly. The only purpose it serves is to hurt you and amuse your opponents.
There’s a reason ESO RvR failed.
Here’s the thing.
I love the folks on my server. Fantastic people. We all get along really well.
I want to keep them that way.
There’s a harmony of cooperation, and I guess that’s why the only time I don’t post polyanna posts is when I feel that source of community is threatened. Otherwise, it’s all sunshine and roses, and I’ll find a way to work with this new thing, etc.
My experience is that when you combine a bunch of people (particularly online) into any kind of group with a leader designate and officers, etc, it does work well for some. But eventually more numbers = drama. Sometimes you don’t even need the numbers.
I deal with resolving issues at work.
I deal with resolving issues at home with my family.
I do not want to have to do the same during my leisure time.
I used to run a 350-man guild on another game. I spent the bulk of my time stomping out personal fires and drama between guild mates than I did actually playing the game.
In the end, I choose to run solo and work between multiple guilds. Having no alliances to one guild over another, I can maximize my effectiveness, while still keeping out of the big stuff that goes on within the guilds themselves behind the scenes.
I’m happier that way. And I’m a more effective member of my server’s team that way too.
And I know I’m not alone in this. I think this is why the bulk of each server’s defense team are solo players that work well together, but still want their independence.
Perhaps I have commitment issues
Hey, here’s an idea, can you get the “play for skin shaming” in another thread? That would sanitize this one and let people actually talk about the inherent issues of the current system.
No matter how hard you try to make it sound like, wanting rewards is not the problem. Both sides want them so quit with the hypocrisy around rewards. If people were “just playing for fun” they wouldn’t give a kitten about this thread or finding middle ground. Wake up.
Wanting rewards is absolutely the problem.
Trying to skew the subject because it doesn’t agree with your agenda is straw man.
Telling people to “wake up” is just rude.
Why can’t you accept that there might be one thing you can’t have immediately?
It’s not like you’re being prohibited from getting it.
And therein is where your argument fails.
Please come back in a month and report. Right now, actual numbers aren’t reflective.
If you don’t write for a living, you should.
You’re dirt broke but still won’t sell the siege in your bags.
If WvW ever gets changed to megaserver style (Or EOTM style) I will kiss this gamemode goodbye (not that I have been doing WvW much lately anyway).
/Typo corrected
I’ll be right there with you. The whole idea of “team” will be destroyed.
Guilds will be upset when it takes five, six, seven different attempts to get entire raid on one map.
It’s just a bad idea.
(edited by Jayne.9251)
I don’t really understand why scouts think auto-upgrades and no supply needed for them are a bad thing.
Because auto-upgrades give them no reason to be at a keep/tower/camp other than to cap it.
Yes, its as simple as that. It doesnt really have to do with scouts. It has to do with players having the very basic reason for being in WvW.
When you remove that you get a game that’s playing itself.
In my opinion, anyone who thought upgrading keeps was even in the top 3 things a scout needed to do, is terrible at it.
Naw, if it was used strategically, it was an essential part of being a good scout.
You die and still keep typing like mad to let map know where the enemy’s going.
From Sept. 29:

Hot off the shopping channel … wow Mags, your commander is great at getting the word out:
- Quaggans will implement a new WvW strategy. This involves a lot of hugging (to death) and coo-ing.
- Dolyaks, tired of being constantly ganked will rise up and gather every single dolyak on the map any time you touch one. The resulting trampling will leave the enemy not only face down in the dirt, but with a few hoofprints on their backs.
- Yelling out enemy movements will get you supressed. Lack of orange swords will be a never-ending game of hide and seek.
- Weaker servers will get the Trehearne buff to use against enemies. Those attacking will be subject to a three hour lecture on Orr before they can proceed.
- Snaff returns and boy is he mad. Mr. Sparkles will play nonstop hits from the 70s and 80s.
- Supply camps after a final upgrade will be turned into a social club with drinks and dancing after 9pm.
Your wvw rank is still way below 1,000.
And you don’t care
Thanks for the fun this week guys, was interesting to see TC in Tier 1 finally (yay TC!)
Headed back to EU … Lol, Piken’s in Tier 1 again, should be interesting, watch the MOS
Would love to drag about 30 of you with me, think you’d have a blast, particularly this week. It’s a good week to witness EU-side scrapping. And Seafarers has a decent sized NA zerg to pit yourselves against.
Have fun out there guys! Wish your opponents well, congratulate them on their victories, and celebrate your own.
Best of luck to everyone on reset.

Population balance is on the players. You can’t put this on Anet. Players have created this issue.
You need to talk to your server mates.

have been constantly bumped to the front page for months now, and remain bumped even after the leagues started and many of your server have complained about the queues.
If you know already that there’s a wonky queue system, adding more numbers and recruiting more would certain exacerbate the problem no?

Want to say kudos all the Kain leadership for all the genuine compliments, done with class, and only making your server look like the fantastic people you are —- both on the forums and in game. Other servers out there could learn by your example. You are a credit to your server.
That said, we all know when Kain gets motivated almost nothing can stop them. Next week should prove an interesting match.
