Its funny that reality and what is said on the forums are two different things. All the people from SOS saying this is fun where are you in the actual game? When was the last time that SOS EB was in outmanned status for the full Sunday (outside a few hours this morning)?
All this is doing is driving people away and if your response is good we don’t want those people anyway, enjoy the rest of the week fighting two tier 2 servers in outmanned status 24/7.
TC enters tier 2 for the first time, months ago. Meets BG and SoR. Holds one tower on four maps for the bulk of the match. This goes on for weeks. We didn’t give up. We stayed in Tier 2 (with a one week drop to Tier 3 but back the following week).
And we are still in Tier 2 because we didn’t give up, even though we got pummelled for weeks and weeks. BG started calling us the zombie coast because you’d knock down one of us and two more would come back to fight.
Most of the SOS posters in this thread remind me a bit of how we were then. Tough and not giving up. You should take a look at how things are going, because you’re definately holding more than one tower on four maps. Don’t defeat yourself before you even learn how great it feels to pull together against tough tough odds. Ask the SOS vets who knew what Tier 1 (and its tactics) was like.
Want to know about more jumping puzzles?
Open your hero window, click on achievement tab on the left hand side, then click on explorer. Near the bottom is a list of all jumping/puzzles you’ve yet to complete and lists the ones you have done.
Large guilds would anchor a match and small guilds/PUGs would fill in the gaps.
Dear god, please stop this silliness.
If you believe this works, then you have no clue about how your defense teams work. Most of them are the “pugs” who will “fill in the gaps” and as such are used to working with smaller groups to do the jobs the guilds just plain won’t do. It takes time and proven teamwork to make that function. Randomly dispersing them will result in a non-cohesive group that will crumble with this model.
You NEED to have both groups on map in order for WvW to work.
If you only have guilds and fights, your map is going to turn into a giant k-train, indistinguishable from pve-champ train maps. If you enjoy that, please go to pve.
If you only have defensive types, then nobody attacks, and it grows equally boring.
You NEED both.
Saying these “pugs” will fill in the gaps indicates a clear disconnect on what really goes on in your wvw maps.

Mr. Silver. I mean this with love. But please go outside and get some fresh air.
This so called ‘hack’ made the game more interesting for also the smaller and weaker servers.
We actually saw the opposite. The stronger server with the 80-blob would drop an ac and use the FoV angle to wipe all inner siege, so they could face-mow the gate down without any resistance from the 6 defenders inside.
(edited by Jayne.9251)
Can’t believe this hasn’t been done yet.
100 Forum posts QQing about locked server
10,000 gold to buy mediocre guild
1 “Favour” to move popular commander into locked server

You can’t just go and start blocking so many people really. That’s not practical since even the trolls actually have useful information at times. .
Naw.
Cut your losses and just block.
You can get your info elsewhere.
Trolls need attention to survive.
Deny them that and perhaps they’ll return to the land of normal human being.
Fairly regularly, I see posts that say something to the effect of:
“The world that most of our guild is on is Full, so we’ve been having our new/returning guild members transfer to the Guest world, but what will happen if the Guest world gets relinked? Will we have to pay to transfer all those members again?”
This solution would give guilds like that an opportunity to freely reform on a world with plenty of space for their entire guild.
Now of course it’s still entirely possible that guilds won’t actually be willing to transfer off their current worlds, even for the opportunity to get all of their members onto the same world. However, that’s exactly why I made this post, just to confirm either case.
Don’t buy into those statements. It’s political gaming to buy more guilds. Stack the bleeding of players.
Whenever it’s been suggested in the past that these guilds join less populated servers to enjoy the game with incoming friends, it’s been flatly refused. They’re not going to do it with new servers. Or they may, and leave main accounts on T1, and then return to their main account after the shiny wears off of the new servers.
I like to think I’ve made a big difference in life, with not only my words, but my actions. And I’ve always been polite.
Let me put it another way:
Let’s say I work for X company. I will make it a priority to keep those customers of X company happy. However, with finite resources and time, if I’m being practical I will look at A: what’s making my company more money; and if both are equal then B: who is easier to deal with. Nine times out of 10 I will be more inclined to help out the nicer people making reasonable requests.
And given that WvW makes very little gem store income for Anet, if you throw in people being antagonistic and confrontational … well it’s pretty easy to see where I’d put my time in.
(edited by Jayne.9251)
Yes I find it difficult when my aoes are on the fence about god … Is this a smiting reference? :p
That said. Devs have told us the reason for the aoe limit is game mechanics and adding more hits would cause even greater lag/latency issues in game.
OH! I think I know why DB suddenly came rampaging into DB Hills with all those golems!
I love WvWers, but man, sometimes you guys drive me batty, lol.
I’m starting to feel protective about Tyler the same way I am about Gaile.
He’s actually taking the time to understand the community. He actually listens and tries his best to fix issues.
Remember this to buy him some goodwill and patience if things don’t go perfectly.
I can’t recall any time playing wvw when we’ve had someone like this.
In the olden days, your team would respond en masse to a call out because you didn’t want to lose a WP that took forever to upgrade, etc. Defending a tower or keep had a feeling of reward when the enemy was pushed out. And that reward was defending something you worked hard on getting built.
Now, with nobody wanting to play the BLs, calling for help is like pulling teeth. Smaller groups that were able to jump between maps now cannot be bothered to respond because the new Bay and Hills doesn’t give them a chance to WP in and save it. So it falls.
And it becomes a domino thing. If Bay and Hills fall, what’s the point really of defending garri? The attitude is “let them take the map, we’ll get it back later.”
WPs need to be returned to the home BL map — not divided up by team like in EB.
I’m glad the dolyaks play a role in upgrades now .. but the auto upgrade system has simply taken pride of ownership away from those defenders who loyally covered the home map.
Couple that with real life options — play the game in my free time and not be happy, or actually go out and do something is now an easier choice.

Only a WvW player would chase with his zerg a lonely roamer
Naw, only a real WvW player would run right past you, waving as he ran, because 1 vs 50 isn’t a fight.
They could always do the “great wall of silence” like most other mmos do, with changes made in game without any communication.
As frustrated as folks may be, there’s really no reason to be abrasive in getting your point accross. None of you know the limitations the team is working with — be it technical, resource-based or just plain man hours.
A more constructive approach would be to make suggestions on where to look for code/upgrade ideas. I know there are a ton of smart people playing this game, be proactive rather than negative. I’m not saying do their job for them, but who knows? Come up with a magical solution they hadn’t considered and maybe you’ll get a job out of it.
Ranting at people is toxic. And in the end, it only really poisons you.
This won’t solve anything. It will alienate the loyalists, cause chaos for a couple of months, then be stuck with same issue.
You need to solve bandwaggoning.
I’ll be so disappointed if Anet caves and lowers the requirements. It will take away the value of it.
lol, I love TC map chat, always makes me chuckle .. this is after a wipe:
No. It’s a counter to bandwaggoning which is endemic in wvw and deteriorates the quality of gameplay.
Pick a server and stick wth it.
Viz will win the leagues regardless of any collaboration. They are not going to wind up third in the last week’s match, and that’s the only way SFR would tie with Viz in the leagues.
I will repeat it again, there was zero collaboration in that first week’s match — Viz was simply too strong and had scouts everywhere that it made flipping any of their stuff impossible — so the only place left to get points was from SFR. It was nothing more nefarious than that. SFR rarely attacked Viz as well, focusing instead on Piken because I believe you all discovered the same thing we did — that Viz was too strong and too organized. They embraced the influx of pve achievement hunters, and many servers failed to do this.
But SFR’s forum warriors made it a personal thing, and many said in the fifth week’s match — it was for revenge. Which was silly in itself, because instead of creating an ally, it became an antagonistic relationship. Nothing seems to motivate players more than unfair and untrue accusations. Well, except maybe for propaganda about double teaming that just didn’t happen.
(edited by Jayne.9251)
Yeah it speaks volumes about people just wanting a simple map, with simple mechanics, that they can simply go around in a loop, flipping sentries/camps/towers/keeps for money/exp and karma.
maybe if it was better to kill people than take objectives… maybe if it was better to defend objectives than kill people…
It’s always better to defend objectives AND kill people, darling
Nine times out of ten folks get upset about two or three people parked at this invulnerable spot as they stand there facing a team of 10 or more of the enemy. Patience wears thin and so folks start attacking, foolishly .. and then they get mad when they’re killed.
If I was standing at the base of the cliff and I saw 10 or more angry red guys waiting for me to come out, I think I’d play a waiting game, rather than rush in and get instantly killed.
There are ways to counter this situation, but apparently folks don’t want to listen. Build siege. Be patient. They’ll either port to WP or bring some friends .. then you can have the battle you’ve wanted.
While you’re waiting. I repeat. You can build siege to make your job easier. If that particular camp is crucial to your team’s success, then it’s equally foolish to leave it unattended anyhow.
It’s not like anyone doesn’t know how the mechanics work with this. Running and attempting to kill them is just silly.
And to the poster above me .. the invulnerable zone runs pretty much all along the base of that cliff .. that one spot in the photo above is not the only area. And they can only do damage to you and not get hurt in return if you let them. An exploit is something you cannot counter … where with this issue you can.
(edited by Jayne.9251)
We have a ton of smart folks on this forum. Let’s open it up for discussion, since without a resolution to bandwaggoning, we are stuck perpetually in Dante’s first circle (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inferno_ ).
I think it’s reasonable to say that most avid fans of WvW would prefer a close matchup each week vs a steamroll. It leads to greater attachment of the game, a sports-esque feeling of contributing to your “team,” win or lose, and engagement that even when you’re not playing, you’re checking the score while at work.
What then do you think will fix the issue of bandwaggoning. No remake of factions, server reset, mergers or linking will resolve issues with this much-beloved game mode until we find a solution.
So how do we do it?
My thoughts are you raise the cost of transfers to $50 real money, not gems, and then hard cap all servers at X. Once X is reached, a server is closed until someone transfers off. No exceptions (yes, even if only half your guild managed to transfer). Those over the X amount are removed from the server and given the choice of other servers. Account history/seniority determines the cut off.
Want to be in Tier 1 (not that that matters anymore, but perhaps this will show others)? Recruit and power your way up. Of course the glicko will have to be made more responsive, so that a strong push yields rewards.
Any other ideas?
Because this is the core of the problem.
Oh wow, 6-8 hours, lol. How much would that cost on the average server?
http://gw2crafts.net/cooking_fast.html
All the fast guides can be found from the dropdown at top of page, along with accurate current pricing.
Why are we now playing friendly server meet-and-greet, when you posted this video to mock people and hold it over them.
Oh dear. I think we’re getting to the heart of his protests here.
I don’t believe he actually did this, he simply posted the video because there’s been question of how they did it, but since you don’t seem to want to hear any other viewpoint but your own, I’ll just give up trying. lol.
TC is stable because of the cookies. /nod
And because of that sugar coma, many are too weak to press the “change world” button. But we here on TC have a plan for them. See pix below of our typical number of TC sentries in keeps and towers all over our maps. Those too tired to go on, are simply propped up with our Asuran technology support bars.
I also think, collectively, we stay because of our server’s unique sense of humour.
Congrats to Kain and TC for your respective Tier wins. BG misses you!
Tier wins.
Something to be proud of.
Well didn’t you ask for tiers?
Oh wait, that’s not quite right.
HEY! I hear you love hugs.
C’mere you.
While we are at it, ballistas should only be able to shoot directly horizontally …. None of this angle down stuff … Just straight out or nothin’
And quaggans! Quaggans should wear helmets that shoot laser beams!
Last patch changed xp in wvw. Check notes:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-April-19-2016/first#post6102561
PvE players used to have to come in WvW for their legendaries, they removed the requirement…
That’s how I got hooked; map completion.
Went in, had a commander nice enough to help me get my vistas, stayed to “pay back” the kindness. Found it was actually fun. Found my niche. Started playing obscene hours. Never got my legendary.
Prior to GW2 you would never have caught me dead in a pvp zone. One thousand faceplants later, it’s my preferred type of game mode.
(edited by Jayne.9251)
What’s your fondest memories of Kain?
Here are mine:
- Shaka’s artwork
- Looking up to see garrison contested, people yell out they see nothing .. finally wander back to the watergate (nobody had checked), only to see two Kain coming up the steps in golem costumes … the two (without benefit of a zerg) had diligently managed to get down the first gate and were dutifully plodding up the steps to take the back gate.
- Groaning after waking up and seeing our entire TCBL entirely green .. yet again — for weeks on end. Kain had been there. *shakes fist
- epic three-way fights in SM with Blackgate/Kain/TC …
- Getting a visual cue that WM was nearby when my screen started to stutter and my fps dropped into the negatives — sure enough by the time I saw them all, I was face-down in the dirt.
- Naked zerg!
- Silke’s Christopher Walken impressions!
- JudgeD’s wry humour
And who can forget this? Pure genius Silke … pure genius!
You want Kodash. Hope you speak German.
What’s bothering me most is that you seem unwilling to do for yourself, and instead want things handed to you. That won’t translate well in WVW, regardless of the “influx of new talent.”
The existing system is fine as it is. There should be a “cost” to transfer, so it’s not abused.
(edited by Jayne.9251)
Blah, no wonder the red names stay away.
Any single change results in mass protest.
Lack of change results in mass protest.
They can’t win.
While it’s fun to play with a guild and coordinate, you don’t need one to make a meaningful contribution to WvW.
If WvW was tied to guilds only, it would leave a lot of people out of the equation. Not everyone fits into that square box of guild life. Schrodinger’s cat is an example
As a pvx guild, it makes sense to have you all on one server, given pve is all megaserver now and not tied to one server.
It’s not impossible to transfer and get all your guildies together on one server. It takes about a day of grinding gold in Silverwastes to get enough gems to transfer — without spending a dime of real money. So there are options, you just can’t be lazy about it. Or you can cough up the $20 and have it easy. Your choice. Most games don’t even give you that option.
(edited by Jayne.9251)
So the secret’s out .. girls actually DO play video games. (I know fellahs, it’s a shocker) …
But I was more curious about those of us who WvW. Traditionally, I would never have ever set foot in anything pvp-related, but I’ve found myself developing a certain fondness for WvW because it involves strategy and a strong sense of teamwork.
We were talking about this on our forums tonight and I’ll pilfer this data from another server-mate about stats:
Computer/Video Game Industry Demo Data:
- The average gamer is 30 years old and has been playing for 12 years.
- Sixty-eight percent of gamers are 18 years of age or older.
- Forty-seven percent of all players are women, and women over 18 years of age are one of the industry’s fastest growing demographics.
- Today, adult women represent a greater portion of the game-playing population (30 percent) than boys age 17 or younger (18 percent).
http://www.theesa.com/facts/pdfs/ESA_EF_2012.pdf
For MMORPGs in particular, it’d be a safe estimate to say women make up around a 3rd of the playerbase, though many factors can skew that number for any given game, including genre, level of player-generated content, representation of avatars, etc.
So I’m curious ladies; why do you WvW? And if you do, what role do you find yourself in: support, supply, or out on the front lines bashing some heads?
What most out there should realize is that the “guy” beside you could just be female … and likely kicking your butt
Girls-only thread! Fellahs keep out!
Beasts and please don’t rhyme.
Psssst a poem doesn’t have to rhyme
Just ask e e cummings…. /nod
Ok a few blemishes, but overall, a good effort. Well done all.
Here’s the quiz.
1. Name your favourite colour. Use four words (can’t be nouns) to describe this colour.
2. Name your favourite animal. Use four words (no nouns) to describe this animal.
3. Name your favourite food. Use four words (you guessed it, no nouns) to describe this food.
4. You’re swimming in the ocean and you see an island. What do you do?
Go at it! will reveal answers in a bit. (Btw no answer is wrong in this quiz)
Yup, they should have kept this to EoTM only.
That way if ppl were curious, they could go there, without disrupting those loyal players who are dedicated to both GW2 and WvW.
I just tried to play it again. I lasted five minutes before I had to log.
You kamikazee into a blob to delay them flipping a camp so help can get there.
You actually sweep for mesmers.
… You’d think the next part would be “my two front teeth, my two front teeth” .. but nope.
All I want is this below:
Cap the maps at 60 per team per map. Let people decide if they want to wait out the queue or transfer. If they transfer (hopefully, maybe Anet might want to include some kind of incentive for a week or so) it will help even out the worlds and make some, not all, more competitive.
It will also eliminate a ton of issues like lag/latency/skill delay/to cull or not to cull … etc …
The only consequence of merging servers or making a mega-server is killing server pride, given the repercussion of not doing so is the gamemode itself dying I’d say it’s a very smart move to megaserver up. I’m not so short sighted and selfish that I’d cling to some loose bond because it makes me feel special while the game dies. If you kill server communities, new communities will form. They always have and they always will. A new system could even include factions that guilds could join that mercenary out to whatever side has less people. Each week guilds and factions compete to see who can take more keeps, kill more enemies, etc. The other major bonus is that there is then a much easier time dealing with off-peak capping and population imbalances.
I disagree. Server communities is what has kept people playing a reward-less game for the past three years. It’s only with the advent of the new map and the pve mechanics on those maps that WvW has completely sputtered out.
The problem with megaserver is that there is no brand loyalty. Your conclusion that new communities will emerge from it is specious if you look at how the mechanics will work.
First off, if you’re not in a big guild, you likely will have a randomized map. If you do defense at all for your server, you will know that the bulk of those defenders come from small or solo guilds.
Big guilds tend to want to run together, so they are not going to separate one or two members to scout and watch the maps. They just won’t.
And how many guilds do you know of that strictly do defense 24/7 in WvW? And how big are those guilds? Not likely very big.
And if those smaller solo/guilds are randomized into different matches, there’s no creation of team — the backbone of WvW will disappear simply because people won’t respond to scout call outs because they don’t know and trust that scout. Scouts will stop doing the most unrewarding task on map because their efforts are being ignored.
With no scouts, and no defenders, the map will consist of attack forces only. With nobody defending the keeps or towers, and only attack on the map, the map will ultimately morph into a pve-champ train map — all aboard the ktrain.
For those of us who have played this game, and loved this game mode, for the past three years — and honestly with the sheer lack of rewards in WvW and STILL it drew a loyal following is indication of people’s passion for this game. And all of that relied on a sense of community.
It didn’t happen because of guilds and their alliances. It happened because of a common purpose/server pride/goals that brought all those different guilds and single players together.
Take away that, and you’ll see WvW turn into a giant pve ktrain. Which will empty the next time a big update/shiny is announced.
2 years ago this forum would have been on fire with people from T1 flaming each other, now? Nothing.
Apparently you missed the part where Anet removed the match threads because they were too high maintenance.
(edited by Jayne.9251)
I’m hoping her bloody head is in it.
