Huh…that’s a fair point.

I think the reason for these additional costs is simply because there’s a lot more gold floating around than there was this time last year. It’s inflation costs. If the heirloom potions cost 10g a year ago we’d see a lot fewer people with them than we will this year. Heck, a year ago you could buy common dyes for like 18c. Now they’re 1s. Everything’s gone up.

I agree. My brand new Sylvari male mesmer (light armor) even looks weird in his armor, like he suddenly decided to sport an adult diaper (dumpy butt). I’m only level 9 so I might reroll as female. Male Sylvari have definite armor issues.

When the patch hits later today, Season 2 will officially be kicked off. And I’d say we can finally be 100% positively beyond a shadow of a doubt absolutely certain that we can trash any extra Season 1 items once and for all.

Sure, a lot of the stuff in the Suggestion forum will be better off now in more specific sub-forums. But many ideas will get quickly buried in the large general discussion forum. It rolls quite fast and, without a proper search feature, forum-goers are going to have to get used to rummaging through multiple pages to find even new stuff.

Environment-wise I’m hoping Scarlet’s defeat will break up the alliances and they’ll flee LA. I’m thinking the only alliance that may remain is the Dredge/Flame Legion, but certainly not the Toxic Alliance and I doubt the Aethers will go anywhere near the steam creatures without Scarlet. LA’s fires will be put out, the miasma dealt with, and the skies will lighten. We’ll begin to rebuild, but it should be different. No longer a pirate haven, but a Tyrian city. The Breachmaker will stay put for a while, just hovering there. Maybe it’ll collapse into the water.

But most importantly, I want answers. The cinematic showed us, the players, Mordy. But do any of the Tyrians know what’s happening? I want more than idle NPC conversations that I have to stand around and listen to. I’d like something more…more involved, more dynamic, more rewarding.

I can never find em. Granted, I’m not actively looking. But nothing ever sticks out to me that it’s the beginning to a JP. Only ones I’ve ever stumbled upon were Morgan’s Leap, Vizier’s Tower (cuz there’s a vista up there), and Urmaug’s Secret (cuz it’s next to a vista).

i find some personal storylines to be quite engaging and others to be downright boring. human street rat story is awful. find my parents? random. but others like the asura are actually quite fun. and some sylvari stuff is pretty engaging, if it is a bit cheesy & sentimental.

Minions make PvE leveling EZ-mode. They have improved health now and you get a nearly always-on elite. Plus, flesh golem and the ranged minion (bone?) have immobs that can help to keep you from getting beat on.

Yes. We have gotten buffs to our turrets, though they’re still not hearty enough to use in any dungeon or WvW zergs. Our healing turret was redesigned for the better (opinion).

Quickness got a 50% nerf across the board but our Elixir U lasts longer now.

No. There have been quite a few changes/adjustments over the last 2 months. Whether it’s for the better or worse is up for discussion, but we’re not being ignored in the strictest sense. However, there are a number of issues (Scope?) that continue to be overlooked or deemed less important than other issues and so haven’t yet been addressed.

Dude, you’re in a PvP (that’s Player vs Player) environment. The whole point of it is to attack others. It’s not bullying, it’s playing as intended. If I were defending my outpost I’d kill anyone who approached too. Basic defense. Otherwise, what’s to stop a player from just running up and saying “oh I’m just POI capping, don’t attack me” and then sneak attacking? You’ve got to be smart man. If there’s a group of players defending a spot, don’t go to that spot. I mean really, common sense. Instead, go somewhere else you need to explore. Wait for your realm to control it and come back. Running straight lines from place to place is asking to get attacked. You’ve heard of WvW roaming? It’s players that prefer to roam the area and fight small battles…like a lone guy…like you. Be sneaky, be alert, be smart, be patient.

Anyone who thinks that should not take the trait at all. Why waste 10 points on something trivial and can’t personally rely on? Might as well take another trait. You either work with the new skills or put 10 points to put into another line where you are assured of its usefulness.

That was my point. That KR isn’t reliable anymore & functions only as a trivial bonus occasionally when kit swapping. What I didn’t type (and didn’t think I needed to) was that it’s simply not worth taking anymore since it isn’t reliable.

Mounts trivialize content. They make it easy to run right by other players instead of getting involved in DEs. They make out-of-combat swiftness discussions moot. They completely change the dynamics of WvW. And flying mounts trivialize everything! Jumping puzzles, vistas, exploration, gathering…just no.

I love that when I encounter another player & I’m mid-DE or even just mid-battle, they jump in and help. That’s cool. That would all go away with mounts.

The new animation looks much much better imo. More realistic.

This is the kind of stuff that kitten es me off. I play the game, read the conversation bubbles, talk to the heralds, watch the cutscenes, and read my in-game mail. Nowhere, did it say that her vision into the Eternal Alchemy was simply a hallucination. I have to come to the forums and read a re-quote by a dev from an interview on another site to get details of the story and the villain I’m supposed to be instrumental in fighting. There needs to be more in-game communication.

And I’d love an explanation of that fact too. She’s supposedly brilliant, yet doesn’t know that instead of delving into the EA she simply got into a sensory deprivation device and tripped? Then why the sudden madness and murder? And the vines thing…can all sylvari do that?

Actually, I think you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn’t think Engis are fun. The big debate is whether they’re viable/wanted/OP/etc in a particular aspect of the game. I generally ignore all the warrior/guardian/Mesmer speed-run elitists out there that preach specific meta builds. When it comes down to it, if it’s fun for you stick with it.

That being said, right now condition Engi is incredibly strong in PvP/WvW. It’s got plenty of viability and utility in dungeons and zergs. And best of all, it’s got so much variety that you’re sure to stay interested in it long after you’d get bored with say guardian. GL

Have it cleanse 1 condition or even just poison if that’s “too OP” and either reduce the cast time to instant or make it a stun break.

I hear what you’re saying, TC. You don’t like the Living Story, and so you skip it. You do the things you enjoyed when the game first released. But here’s the important question: how long can you do those same things before they grow stale?

That’s the rub. If every resource ArenaNet can muster is poured into the Living Story that means those of us who don’t like it will never see new content we enjoy. Eventually – no matter how great it is – the old content is going to lose its luster. So that leaves us with our fill of the old content, no desire to play the new Living Story content, and no prospect of new old-style content that would have been delivered via formal expansion.

In other words, those of us who don’t enjoy the Living Story have nothing to look forward to. The game is going to stagnate. Where more traditional MMOs release major content updates and expansions to combat stagnation, those of us who don’t enjoy the Living Story content are left with nothing to inject fresh air into the game. That’s a recipe for an ever-shortening desire to log in.

Hopefully the “big project” they’ve claimed to be working on behind the scenes will be something akin to a full-fledged expansion; but given the way the developers have failed to deliver on so much of their Living Story hype, I’m not holding my breath.

Agreed. The LS in its current incarnation is not living up to my expectations from pre-launch. Of course, my expectations don’t mean crap compared to the company’s vision. But I was expecting the LS to be a continuation of what we got at launch, not completely new types of content. Instead of new DEs and evolution of zones, we get randomly appearing holo projectors and temporary solo instances. These are glorified events, not a true continuation of the Living Story.

The GW2 story is about risen dragons, pacts of heroes, and character design. None of the LS includes these things, save the back items that appear with each update. No new armor designs in-game; nope it’s all RNG token bought or gem store bought. I don’t understand why the LS doesn’t even remotely resemble the game that shipped.

Fields act differently depending on the finisher. Poison fields are great, but aren’t that great with projectile finishers. Use your SB #2 blast finisher on them and you’ll apply aoe weakness (and bleed). Which is a really good set-up if you’re planning on diving into the middle of the fray. Keeps you from getting whalloped on.

Also, I think Anet has tried to limit the combos each profession is able to pull of solo. On your own, thieves only have smoke, poison, and dark fields. Tons of finishers. But join an engi or ele who’s laying down fire fields and you can spam blast finishers to build huge aoe might. Or blast a ranger’s spring for repeated aoe heals. Can you imagine how OP thief would be if we had access to fire or water fields like they do?

Combos are designed to strengthen the combined might of a group. And while many people just drop whatever fields they have in zergs on CD, good group combo utilization in dungeons or small-scale WvW can seriously turn the tide. A strategic use of fields to create party-wide stealth, or stacking might, or retaliation is under-utlized and under-valued. Playing smart pays off. Unfortunately, not everyone does.

Change the world. Let it happen. The writing has improved, the reveal might be amazing, and a permanent change to Tyria might be just the thing to legitimize Scarlet for some. Her dastardly deeds have been sufficient to alter Kessex, pieces of her armies and tech litter the world, and she’s plotting to attack our major hub city. That’s a pretty effective evil-doer. To fend her off without any lasting scars would be even more TV-land kid-friendly. Realism is gritty and to win a war that’s been waging for a year should require sacrifice.

I actually like the Sylvari. Their mythology is the subject of speculation and wild theories. They’re young, yet incredibly curious, which makes for some great personalities: innocent, easily corrupted, eager, spacey, eccentric, flighty, noble, introspective…

The Nightmare Court is a wonderful dichotomy to the standard sylvari, and we’ve got Malykk, who could open even more doors into their mythology. And let’s not forget about dragon minion speculation. Their lack of deep history makes for some very interesting potential.

Where I think the problem lies is not with Sylvari themselves, but rather with the specific characters that have been in the spotlight, and how they are/were presented.

The mortar was a neat idea, but poorly implemented with GW2’s mobility heavy combat style. It needs to be completely reworked or replaced imo. A flying bomber drone, a jetpack, an IronMan-esque suit (not golem), an elite turret (read: cannon) that is heartier than our current turrets, etc.

Acquiring Armor:

In Lion’s Arch there are a string of dungeon vendors that trade armor & weapons for dungeon tokens. Check em out and figure out which you’ll want. Then run that dungeon for tokens. This is the most economical way imo, because you’ll earn gold and drops from the dungeons, and not pay any gold for the armor.

You can hunt down the various karma vendors in Orr (at each temple once unlocked). Use the wiki to see what they each carry, as none of them has a full set of any stat set. This way is also cheap because it’s gold-free, but the selection is limited.

If you WvW you can use the badges earned there at the vendors near the asura gates in the Borderlands.

You can also pick up the Leatherworking and Huntsman crafts and make your own stuff. I’ll warn you though, that leveling these 2 up to 400 wil be costly. You’ll have a lot of mats in your bank if you’ve been gathering and not selling them, but you’ll absolutely need more than what you’ve got. Especially if you level both. It’ll cost you 10g+ per craft. Someone else would know better a more precise estimate.

Obviously, there’s the Trading Post to fall back on if you have the gold.

As for looks, you have quite a few options with the various dungeon vendors. But you can also use the lvl 80 transmutation crystals to change the appearance of any item.

Evon just wants us to sink more wasted money into RNG boxes for his profit.

From a conceptual standpoint, I see a Ranger with a pet as a team working together. Unlike clones or minions, they should be like 2 buddies, able to communicate and help each other throughout a battle. Which means I think there needs to be more synergy between the player and the pet, allowing one to buff the other, deflect attacks, absorb their strengths, etc.

In game-play terms, a stow-pet option would be cool if it worked like a signet: it’s a temporary benefit/surge that changes the aspect of battle with a risk/reward choice. So, you “stow” your pet, or more specifically “gain the aspect of your companion” which might give a stat bonus but also a tangible change to combat, perhaps working like an Engi kit and changing the 1-5 skills, or perhaps giving the ranger new F1 & F2 skills. It would need to be more than just +15% damage output or something boring. It would need to be something strategic. Perhaps a Moa pet would split into 2 “spirits” and run at the target and give confusion upon “stowing” while the ranger player gains and a new F1 skill that deals extra damage for each condition on a foe. Or stowing a panther teleports the ranger to just behind the target and gives an F1 skill that makes the next 3 attacks guaranteed crits.

I started a thread almost identical asking for the XP scrolls to change from 1-20 to X+19. Making a new character is something that takes time. Many people spend an hour (or more) just in the character creation screens making them look perfect. Then you start playing a brand new profession and won’t really know if you’ll even like it till 20 levels. How long does it take a new Ele to unlock all those weapon skills and do some DEs and hearts? Before you know it, you’re lvl 10-15 and you’ve decided “I like this” and by then the scroll is a waste. Or you roll a new necro, use the scroll, play for an hour and realize you wasted the scroll on a profession you hate.

If you can make the scrolls X+19 then they function the same way but without robbing players of the joy of discovering a brand new profession. Heck, limit it so you have to be lvl 50 or lower to use it. That way nobody can skip 70-80 without doing it for real.

For the gold investment required for 6/6 Runes of Strength, simply maintaining 1 single stack of might for +5% is a complete waste. Better off going for Flame Legion and getting the 100% uptime +7% to burning foes for a fraction of the cost.

Now if you’re running a might stacking build, then it’s something to consider.

Awful solution. The issue is that they look great and people want to buy them, but they’re worthless being town clothes and not armor. Not buying them doesn’t solve the problem for anyone.

Quite frankly, I don’t understand the town clothes. Seeing someone rocking their town clothes in LA is extremely rare (for me). We work so hard to put together that perfect set of armor…why would I rather don riding pants and a vest? And to make a set of townclothes that look so armor-esque is just plain mean lol. That skull mask!

This game is designed around the fact that level 20 gameplay is the same as level 80 gameplay. WvW scales you up. PvP scales you up. At 80 you’re still running auto-scaled DEs in level 40 zones for the fun/karma/completion anyway. Autoleveling will never be added. Not to mention, you already have crafting for 1-80 without needing to actually play the game. And you can level in WvW anyway. Just play WvW from level 2-80 and you’ll eventually hit max. From what I’ve heard, if you’re good you’ll level pretty fast too. So, why do you need an auto-leveler?

Your issue is that you want it now. Unfortunately, there’s a pretty important event going on in LA now. And the next LS release on Tuesday will probably be even bigger. You’re going to have to

a) wait till LS ends to farm world bosses
b) guest to a server that regularly does world bosses
c) a ham sandwich

Personally, I’ve gotten probably 100 dragonite ore from the LA event so far and I’ve done about a dozen runs. Every bit helps. And we got 1200 last night. That’s still happening too.

Given Scarlet’s penchant for enlisting races to her cause, perhaps she worked a deal with the Tengu. She’ll spare their side of the wall if they shoot arrows into our bodies whenever we approach.

Got rezzed by Kasmeer during the final fight. That was nice. I got corpse bounced into a corner and she ran all the way out to me.

I’d go with Runes of the Flame Legion. +7% damage to burning foes, plus +30% burning duration. Will really help your build if you’re focusing on hybrid condition/power and constant burning.

As an aside: Searing Flames is kind of a waste in open world unless you’re fighting Dredge. You’re rocking 3 signets. Signet Mastery in that same line would be way more helpful.

Just want to add that, while you’re investing into trait lines for the actual traits, you’re still gaining the stats that go along with them. So, for example, if you put 30pts into the power trait line (thus gaining 300 power), you can get away with substituting a piece or 2 of your power gear with some that’s got defensive stats without losing too much. Trait first, then access your gear. You may find that whilst traiting you’ve gained some stats you didn’t realize you had.

The only thing I can think of is that if you activate a Shatter skill, those active illusions now don’t count toward the max 3. So while they are chasing you around, the mesmer can spawn another couple illusions. The mesmer can then shatter the new illusions. If those original illusions are still alive and chasing you, they are joined by the newer illusions. All I can think of.

This mechanic shouldn’t be changed either. Illusions are easy to kill and a mesmer shouldn’t be kitten and not able to create more just because of endless kiting.

I play with my camera zoomed all the way out for the biggest field of vision. What irks me is when I get downed and my camera auto-zooms in on my character like it’s some dramatic cinematic push-in on the hero. It’s distracting and reduces my field of view. Can it not do that please?

In principle, I completely agree with your disdain of achievement hunting for LS events. However, this year’s achievements have been designed and scaled well so that they’re easily accomplished within a few days of just enjoying the content. And since they added dailies to the LS meta progression back in the Pavillion days, it’s easier than ever. You don’t need to do 50 doors if you don’t want, just do another of the cycling dailies. And it’s here for a month! You’d have to actively try NOT to get the meta for this event.

Props to Anet for getting the LS achievement scaling right on. No more “carve a million pumpkins”

I will say though, that I miss not being able to attain a title. I’m hoping as more is unlocked, we can get a Right Hand of the Bloody Prince title. He’s a bit of a whiner, but I’m always down for dishing out some vegeance.

@ Bombsaway: I completely understand your theory on strengths balancing weaknesses. However, I think what you’re after is an even 1:1 ratio and I don’t think that’s what Anet wants. I think you referred earlier to one class being +1 while another is -3 in the whole balancing aspect. What Anet may intend is for everyone to be similarly in the plus. Perhaps it’s not warrior that’s OP, but rather other classes need buffing to bring them in line. I wouldn’t want my characters to have glaring faults, but rather obstacles to overcome. In this sense, all professions should be stronger than they are weak.

just press your ft keybind (stow and proc) and again to equip again. why the kitten would you have to CARE about any other kit?

every 20 seconds you press any kit keybind for the kr proc for that kit regardless of what you have equipped.

What happens when you want that flame proc but you really need to heal? You swap to med kit, heal up, swap to FT…ooops, no aura proc…all used up needlessly when you swapped to med kit to heal yourself and got a KR proc that you didn’t want/need….guess you don’t get flame proc for 20 more secs…hope you don’t have to heal again then.

You can’t rely on KR anymore. Now it’s just a trivial bonus. Hopefully it’s something good when you need it.

I agree Alleluia. I’m hoping the next update brings some big profession changes. We haven’t had any significant skill/trait patch lately so hopfully we’ll see bug fixes and improvements to things like summons, kits, DS, and more.
