I’ll be honest. I feel heartier with my Engi than my warrior. Stats are all well and good, but being able to gain protection, have perma-vigor, perma-swiftness, aoe blinds, tons of combo fields and blast finishers is much better in my book. It’s about more than just “he’s got 22k hp and 2800 armor and I only have 19k hp and 2600 armor!”

I agree with everything that has been said in this thread.

409 should effect Med Kit’s Antidote imo, causing Antidote to cleanse 2 conditions per use. It would justify taking that trait in a non-elixir build.

Oh. I thought the dye thing was for ANY duplicate of dyes…. I have collected all dyes I have found on any character I have recently just to get those duplicates… Now I will have none…. Nvm… I better read more carefully next time.
Special gem-store only dyes: duplicates will result in getting back the actual dye back in your inventory
All other dyes: duplicates will result in getting unidentified dyes in your inventory

I got it on my 2nd round due to sheer dumb luck. Hooray me. I’d rather get lucky & have a precursor.

I think it’s ridiculous that the game has direct & condition damage and plenty of build and gear combinations…but the limitaion of combat system forces everyone to run direct damage. A whole sub-set of builds and gear largely ignored by people who run instances & DEs. And, while a solution is there to basically allow the game’s combat to exist as it was supposed to, the suits won’t spend the dough. No wonder musicians are producing their music themselves or on independent labels more & more. Shame developers can’t do the same.
I say Kickstart the server upgrade for personal condition stacking!!
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Doesn’t this end up making the lv1-30 zones even easier for lv80 characters?
Quite likely, unless they tweak the downscaling a bit.
But then again, lvl 1-30 zones shouldn’t really have to take lvl 80 characters into consideration anyway.
Sure they should. That’s the whole point of down-scaling. To make content relevant to all players no matter their level. Anet intentionally created auto-scaling so that level 80 players can head into a level 25 zone and play with lower level friends and not be 1-hit smashers like in WoW. Also, it lets 80s finish world completion without the monotony of 1-hit smashing everything in lower zones.
Scaling needs to be taken into account at all times.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
1. Funnel us all into one or two areas — Check Nobody is being funneled. The event occurs in LA. Choose to take part or don’t.
2. Create content that fosters zergs — Check (although to get the highest rewards you have to split up, but it is not required and I still see a lot of zerging). The major complaint about Scarlet’s Invasions were that nobody completed it intelligently after a while because higher rewards cam from farming champs rather than winning. Anet responds with an event designed to give higher rewards for winning. Good planning on their part
3. Create content that only requires auto attack and minimal brain activity — Check That’s your choice how to play. You can autoattack all you want. I’m going to help the whole zone win the event.
4. Inject the same monsters into the content — Check Well it makes sense doesn’kitten Scarlet creates a large and varied army of krait, clockwork, aetherblades, nightmare court, dredge, and Flame Legion. That’s 6 factions, each with numerous types of enemies. Of course she’s going to use the army she spent the past year building.
5. Do not give the player much direction as to where to go when he/she logs in for the first time — Check Read your mail, check the upper-right of your UI. Talk to other players…it is an MMO after all. It’s really not that hard.
6. Tell the story abysmally — Check. Truth be told, there’s not much story to tell. What, did you need pages of lore and revelations? This is the culmination of the story…a massive attack on Lion’s Arch. We get a cinematic showing the beginning of the attack and we take part in the evacuation. What else needs to be told?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I think if you reset them you shouldn’t get any new currency for completing them. We have enough currencies. I think if you do them again you just get the same XP you would have the first time. No change. Otherwise, it’s exploitable.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I agree that there needs to be a larger skill library. I think weapons need an extra set or 2 to choose from and double the utility skill options.
Also, it might be neat to have some common skills that everyone has access to, similar to the faction-based skills from EotN. Maybe we can unlock them at various key points in the personal story (but only until the personal portion ends and it becomes Trahearne’s story). One skill after 1st arc, one after 2nd arc, last skill after choosing Order. This would incentivize people to play their personal story.
I don’t want a larger number of skills at any one time, just a larger pool to choose from. WoW became overwhelming with a screen full of skills, potions, macros, and QoL buttons. GW was perfect with a huge library from which to pick your ideal 8.

Sometimes I read a thread but everything I’d have added has already been said. Or I don’t have an answer for the question(s) posed.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I honestly cannot understand why you’d prefer having your gold spread out amongst all your toons. It’s highly inconvenient.
You’re on your Engineer and want to buy some strength runes but you don’t have 70g on your Engi, so you swap to your Necro cuz that’s where more of your money is, and oops, now your Necro has no money for when you want new armor for a power build so you have to swap to your Ele…
What a pain. No thanks, I like my money account bound. I always know exactly how much gold I have. Nothing worse than burning 60g regearing a single toon, only to find out later when you switch toons that you only had 90g to begin with and now you’re effectively broke.
Also, how is putting your money in a bank (a centralized location) any different than putting it in your account wallet (a centralized location)?

If you fully spec into them and stac +boon/healing/toughness gear they seem ok in spvp, but a little underwhelming.
So to make a spirit worth it (and we have a few) we have to fully spec for them? 30 points…and they’re still underwhelming? Yea that’s not gonna fly for me.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Try out Guardian. You played a Pally in WoW and so you might like the holy warrior playstyle.
My advice: roll every profession and, after the initial lvl 1 sequence) take them to the Heart of the Mists (accessed via the PvP window). It’s bascially the PvP lobby. There, you will be automatically up-leveled to 80 and all of your skills unlocked. You can then try out all of your skills on target golems to get a feel for their playstyle.
Welcome and good luck.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’d love to know this as well. I understand event-specific currencies, but I think that after the event they should go into an “Event Collection Bank Tab.” If they don’t become deposit-able after the event, we know to trash em. That’d clear things up nicely.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
With this release, we are adding new runes, sigils, amulets, and traits outside of the core set. The core set is always open and available to all PvP players. New runes, sigils and amulets can be unlocked for your account with gold; new traits can be unlocked for your character for gold and skill points. These items are purchased directly from the UI. If it’s locked, simply click on it to unlock it!
That sounds like to have an actual level playing field you’ve got to pony up some gold. Isn’t that contrary to PvP design where skill rules all?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
If you dislike the fragility of the Ele when missing a single skill, then you may want to avoid Thief. While not as squishy, it does rely on evasion. Imo though, it’s got evasion by the truck-full. So you get used to throwing out blinds and evades and you’re golden. Thieves also have a nice repertoire of utilities that make gameplay even more fun.
Engineer is wonderful. I can understand your skepticism at low levels because they require traits to really shine. While Thieves can burn down foes fast even at level 10, Engis require traits to push their weapons/kits into that level. So don’t lose hope. By 60-80 you’ll be able to fill any role in the game.
Ranger is the easiest to play, no doubt. It’s also the most boring imo. Your pet will either be a huge weapon (PvP, open world PvE) or a giant hinderance (dungeons, WvW zergs). But that’s a subject for debate. As to your sword rooting you, don’t forge that it has evades built into all of its attacks and that it keeps you kitten near perma-locked onto your target. You won’t have to burn endurance dodges as often by using #2 & #3 strategically. And most forum-goers agree that melee Ranger is stronger than bows.

I’d love to see more non-Gem Store armor. You know, stuff we could earn through playing the game.

- Saved Build Templates
- Elites that don’t get forgotten on my bar
- Open, sprawling dungeons like FoW
- More complex dungeon fights. Right now, everything seems to be WoW-inspired as opposed to GW-inspired.
- Max stats available to all. Skins hard to get.
- Skill capping to a lesser degree. I like not having to purchase my skills, but capping elites was fun.
- More epic storyline
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Except playing thru the entire personal story. Crafting to 80 and doing the whole PS will take a number of hours. I’m ok with this method IF the ascended item is soulbound. Let the character choose the stats and then soulbind it. Perhaps add an extra story quest to make it interesting. A holy grail/sword in the stone kinda thing.

City Events!! Yes, and not just stupid things like daily cooking quests, if you get my reference. Make the cities a cool place to hang out, not just a stopping point for daily XP. Fun, non-combat DEs would be just the thing. Maybe quests that involve the important NPCs of the city in a progressive way: ie – helping Queen Jennah prepare for a feast at the end of the month in Divinity’s Reach. Or cleaing the city & helping various krewes prep for a science expo in Rata Sum. End of month would culminate in something neat in the cities, perhaps just in your home instance if you participated.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
That post’s idea is similar, but still very different. I don’t want to be able to skip 40, 60, or 80 levels, just make the existing scroll more user-friendly.
I feel like the current scroll is only truly utilized at lvl 2, thus gaining the maximum possible benefit from the item. However, you can’t really know if that profession is something you’ll even like until you play it a bit. Which means you might be level 6 or 8 before you want to use it, thus losing out on much of the scroll’s benefit. And if you don’t figure out if you like that profession or not till lvl 20, you’re outa luck.
Keep the function just lose the limitation of the scroll giving levels 1-20 and instead make it a flat 19 levels.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I know it was said above but it bears reiterating. Play the class you enjoy the most. I think that’s paramount. Whether or not warrior or thief are “the best” at PvE or PvP won’t change the fact that you still enjoy playing ranger more. Just be the best ranger you can be. Which sounds lame but seriously, it’s easy to play ranger but to master any class takes ingenuity and experience.
Also, don’t ever let the forums get you down on a class cuz every one of them gets ragged on here.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Most champions have stability built in via Defiant, which ignores crowd control effects. This is a crowd control effect.
Of course, other players can dodge right thru the lines too. Which makes them doubley useless. The only thing they work on reliably are PvE trash. Ya know, the stuff you don’t generally need to herd up.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I think that Anet should, with each LS update, add just a little more of Orr healing. Just a beach to start…which spreads further inland. Then another coast or tiny island. Perhaps a single temple spreading some healing, and revamping that particular temple’s event chain to a defend rather than attack style.
Over time, we’d see the fruits of our victory against Zaihtan. Then, when Anet finds the time is right, release a LS patch that is focused on the healing of Orr and big changes and a progression to the next chapter in our war against the dragons.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Sure…go ahead. Dream.
Admittedly, Anet has buffed turrets. Several times. The problem is that they’re either the wrong buffs or they’re weak buffs. An hp increase is good in theory, but in practice they’re still 1-shot in dungeons and easily dispatched in WvW. Their AI was recently improved, but I can’t speak to the results of that buff since I still don’t use turrets.
Now obviously I don’t want any 2 professions to be too similar. But the fact is that many classes have a summon of some type: guardian spirit weapons, ranger spirits, Mesmer illusions, warrior banner, ele elementals, necro minions. And some of these are really effective (illusions, minions, banners) and some are just not (spirit weapons, turrets).
As it stands, due to them dying quickly, the most effective way to use most turrets is to drop, overcharge, pick up/detonate. If that’s what Anet intends, then they should be designed to be summoned, take no damage, auto “overcharge” and then disappear, all with a lower cooldown. So rocket turret would appear, lock on, fire, and disappear. Reduces the button dancing. But it also reduces the cool factor. After all, their not turrets anymore…they’re clunky gadgets. So then…I guess that means that they’re not meant to be summoned, overcharged, and picked up.
Which means they need to have their longevity addressed in a deeper way than just boosting their HP. This isn’t unique to Engi. Rangers want spirits & pets that can avoid 1-shots. In both cases the “fix” has been to simply boost health in PvE.
…….

Exploration, gathering, and dynamic events.
Exploration is easy XP and you get it even in cities. Go into Divinity’s Reach and 100% explore it. In Queensdale, make sure you get all the POIs and vistas at your level.
Get your gathering tools (axe, mining pick, sickle) from a merchant and gather all wood, ore, and herbs you see. They give XP as well as gold when you sell them on the Trading Post. You can see the gathering nodes on your mini-map.
Dynamic Events are unique to GW2 and can be a lot of fun. They’re designated by orange map icons and text on the right side of your screen. They give XP, some coppers, and karma. If one pops up near you, do it.

It’s good to raise awareness. However, the charity that has spearheaded this whole “pink” thing has some very suspect business practices.
Are you kidding me? This is an individual that spearheads this event. Her name is Rhonda. If you click on the donate button on the Pink Day in LA website it takes you directly to the Canadian Cancer Society’s website. Unless you are saying that the CCS has suspect business practices, which is preposterous, why would you make such a statement?
I have a feeling he was refering to the Susan Koman organization. He probably thought that’s who was sponsering the event. I too have heard of questionable practices by them.

Better yet Aberrant, 50% chance to insta-gib yourself. Leave it to an Engineer to forget to open the Iris on a Stargate. ):
I think they’ll nail us with RNG and make our portal an entrance only, which ports us to a random location within 600-900 range. Hopefully they’ll be nice enough to make sure that doesn’t port us off a cliff. I can see us using that portal that we set up as an escape…only to materialize 200ft above a sheer drop, looking down like Wile E. Coyote. Complete with a little sign we hold up that says “yelp!”
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Moving nodes keeps the game from being a farm run. God forbid you have to find the expensive crafting materials that you’re just going to flip on the TP after you run all your alts. Sorry for the jaded tone but I’m sick of hearing everyone whine about having to work for stuff.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I like Smoke Vent a lot, having no cast time and aoe blind makes it a great emergency skill. And while a smoke field would definitely improve the skill, I think FT needs to be improved in other ways first. We’ve got blinds in bomb kit, grenades kit, and pistol mh. And we’re not a stealth class, strictly speaking.
I’d prefer FT be improved with higher autoattack damage and a deshaped Napalm. But that’s just me.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Every single patch day someone starts this thread. And Anet never responds because they’re busy, ya know…launching the patch. It’ll launch when they’re ready. Patience.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I understand gold sinks. But re-traiting shouldn’t be one of them. GW1 originally had a sort of XP currency to re-spec attributes, but Anet eventually realized that this was counter to the theme of the game: creating strategic & unique builds not gear grinding. So they got rid of it. GW2 is the same way. i think eventually retraiting will be free, but not until Anet adds more skills and improves upon the existing trait system. As it is, traits don’t add the flair that GW1 had with its buils system. When it does, and people are retraiting more often, they’ll make it free.
We covered this on the first page. In case you missed it:
“This. Is. Not. Guild. Wars. One.”
And yet GW2’s design is similar enough to GW1 to mention. Both games are designed around the premise that gear isn’t the important thing, the build is. If creating strategic builds and changing it up to support the situation is what’s important, then playersr should have the ability to freely do that. After all, there is no holy trinity here, so each player can spec very differently to support, deal dmg, etc depending on the situation. No monk rocking a straight heal build anymore that can be used in all groups. Now we can bring a support ranger or a condition ranger or a sniper ranger…all of which require retraiting.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Don’t think there’s much to say after that. Chaith pretty much nailed it imo.

I like it, and agree that the shared initiative would prevent any OPness.
And it might open up more weapon set combos, as opposed to the x/x + SB that nearly everyone runs. If you knew you could reliably combo one set into a couple skills in another set, and then back again, it could broaden the class.
Also, with new weapons and skills coming, this could have some amazing potential.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
And it might open up more weapon set combos, as opposed to the x/x + SB that nearly everyone runs.
Sooo… following your logic, people use SB on thief because of the weapon swap cooldown? Does not compute.
No, people use the SB because of its great utility and synergy with all build types. However, if you had the ability to weapon swap more frequently (and especially with the upcoming additions to available weapons), there could be greater potential for other weapon set combinations that gel. I’ve heard arguments about how skill x doesn’t fit in that set and it’d be better on weapon y. Or that I wish skill z were on a weapon q instead.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
EG is a support tool, yes, but an extremely strong one. Its toolbelt is a stun breaker now. A light field isn’t as fun as a water field, but it’s still a large aoe healing field and we can still cleanse conditions through it, not to mention cleanse allies with Fumigate. Also, weakness is stronger now so EGs autoattack is even better. Plus it stacks bleeds better than pistol. Acid Bomb is a blast finisher but also stacks damage quite well (off power not cond dmg).
I bring it with me into every dungeon. It’s just too useful. But it’s never my dps weapon.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
1)-S/D Shbow – I really need to poison this warrior, but Shbow doesn’t do enough damage to overpower HS + AH – Now I can switch to Shbow for a mere 5s to get some poison/weakness on my target, then switch back to a set that does damage to maintain pressure.
2) -S/X D/X – I’m in stealth and I want to deal some burst, but dagger is less then optimal for the fight after I get out of stealth – 4 less seconds I’m stuck in a suboptimal weaponset.
3) -P/P whatever melee set – P/P until my opponent closes the gap, switch to melee for minor burst/whatever, open a gap and switch back to P/P
I could keep going, but you get the idea.
Great examples. #2 would alleviate something that frustrates me in PvE. I’m using S/X and when I stealth I can’t spike like I cold with another set, but don’t want to swap and get stuck without my sword.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
The unlimited gathering tools are temporarily back on the TP and are they really worth it? 1000 gems / $12.50 US / 110g (11g per 100 gem conversion) is pretty steep especially if you decide to get all 3. I gather regularly and at most I might need to replace my tools once a week. The only real reason I can see for buying one is for the look and convenience, but its not like you won’t be regularly visit a merchant anyways. Are we just paying for that extra animation or is it it actually worth it in the long run?
You said it right there. They’re all about looks and convenience. From a purely monetary standpoint, you’ll never make up for the costs of them. If you like cool looking stuff because it’s cool looking stuff, then sure. If you like paying for convenience items, then sure.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I say, scrap the whole elite and give us something unique. We’re engineers, not scavengers. We build stuff. So why are we borrowing other professions’ elites? Give us a steam-powered-mech-suit transformation or a Mr.-Hyde-crazy-scientist tonic or something with unique models and skills. The necro lich is so awesome looking and completely unique. Can we has something like that??
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Holy necro’d thread Batman!
Incendiary’s 100% proc is nice but it was easy to keep burns rolling with FT alone even beforehand. Between the long duration fire field and even minimal +boon duration with autoattack, burns were ever-present.
The biggest boon to FT is Juggernaut’s move from Grandmaster to Master trait. It basically gives you a free 10 trait points to put elsewhere. Survivability, utility, movement, you decide. You can try hybrids. Can might stack even easier with 30 in Alch for HGH if you want, or supplement a rifle/SD build with FT for variety (something I’ve been messsing with lately).
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Seems Anet has this belief that nerfing a particular line that is “overused” is the way to broaden build variety. They’ve said that they feel certain traits in Arcane are very attractive and should thus be moved to Master to warrant their strength. But in actuality these traits are taken because they’re useful for more than 1/4 of our skills and are unique enough that they can add new shape to a build. I’d say the fix is to buff the traits in other lines that are underused to make them more attractive to invest in those lines.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
We have a Rifle in name and appearance only.
For all other purposes we have a Shotgun.
Pretty much this. Engineers are defined by equipping only guns (and kits). Yet we aren’t the snipers…that’s warriors….who are defined by being able to equip nearly everything. So…there’s that.
I just rolled a warrior that I’m planning on leveling purely ranged sniper. We’ll see how that goes.
Having said that, I’d love for our rifle to have something a little more sniper-esque. We can trait it for long range, and yet it’s got pretty much only auto-attack to rely on for damage. #3 hits hard, but only from close range (shotgun??). #2 is control, #4 is escape, and #5 is mobility. So we have a weapon that can be traited to long range, yet can only deal damage from range with 1 skill. Never understood that. Rifled Barrels trait is more useful for pistols imo.
I would rather Scope get switched to a more shotgun oriented trait.
Plant Feet
Xcrit% for targets 200m or closer with Rifle.
or
Both Barrels
X% chance to fire double shots with Rifle.Embrace the Shotgun ppl it will make you feel better.
I’ll embrace the shotgun when they start putting traits like this in. As it is, it’s a boring weapon to dps with. It’s a control weapon. Til then, I’ll stick to my pistols.
