I may not be top 1, but I am top 150 (pre-EotN) And I personally think that this Capture point system is so inferior to an ACTUAL team based/objective based game mode.

As someone before me said, if we compare this to a successful eSport (LoL) and compare it to Guild Wars 1 GvG, you can see that, in fact, they are very similar.

Both teams have a primary objective (GW: Guild Lord, LoL: Nexus)
Both teams have obstacles they need to get past to reach that objective (LoL: Towers, GW: NPCs / Gates)
Both teams have times when they team fight, and times when they split (GW: Gank routes, LoL: Gank routes)
Both teams have secondary objectives (GW: Flag Stand [aids entire team], LoL: Dragon/Baron [aids entireteam])

The main problem with capture points is that it DOES NOT promote team play, it promotes communication, but NOT team play. Team play is the cohesion of all players to overcome their obstacles, not having them constantly seperated doing their own thing.

This works in LoL because of minions and bushes, GW has nothing to aid a lone player against a lone player, it is whoever has the better 1v1 build, or bunker build, wins.

Please bring back GvG ;_;

Oh cmon now, Sya is just a normal person, just like any other resident of LA, putting them up on a pedestal and doing the whole “hip hip hooray” is not the right path. That is actually the opposite, normal, everyday people, who want to be treated as a normal person doesn’t get special treatment because of something irrelevant to the story or their orientation, that defeats the purpose of being treated equally.

you also thought scarlet was a good villain.

I also know the entire plot a year in advance.

Think about it this way…you know the ending.

So if this was a book (story) most readers would have put it back onto the shelf before reaching the end (which you seem to be hinting is good)

The story has to be good, not just some pieces, or just the ending, because you need to keep the reader / player intrigued and wanting to know what happens. Scarlet makes it really hard to CARE what she is doing…

Using a burst skill causes Deep Wound, lowering target’s maximum health by 20% for 3 seconds.

Give reasons to use all bursts, balance damage values to burst skills to reflect usage.

You cannot be (or is very difficult to be) immersed in a game that:

- Restricts your camera to constantly 3rd person
- has instant travel + a load screen with every waypoint
- has no inherent weather effects
- has icons in every corner of your screen, and a non-adjustable UI
- has NO sunset or sunrise (only light, then dark, then light…)
- has a nearly static world of repetitious events and plethora of never-moving NPCs

All-in-all, single player games are where you will find immersion, where they can cater a game to fit around your character and present everything to you in a way that seems more natural and not segmented for someone else who happens to be doing the exact same thing you are.

MMOs just can’t have that type of immersion.

Best we can hope for is they start learning how to write better stories and polish up the game world, so instances and events will help make the player feel more integral in the world.

I actually made a video about this on my channel a long time ago, where I was going to explore zones with my UI completely turned off….and it actually made much more of a difference than I had imagined.

tl;dr

The game isn’t immersive, try playing with your UI turned off in a PvE zone, and you will at least feel a better sense of immersion.

There is a bug with this map; that would not let anyone leave. Even logging out and back in drags everyone in it back to the map.

[Idea] Portal Marker Suggestion

I had this idea for a portal marker, since it has been asked for by many people, even with me not as a mesmer player, I can see applications for this with mesmers on my team in pvp and pve, or against them as well.

The Idea:

Unplaced exit portal:
Have a “tether” between the starting location of the portal and the player, when the player moves, there is a small animation at the player’s feet (glowing) that shows a “string” between the player and the portal’s origin.

When the string snaps/breaks/disappears then the player is beyond portal range, and the tether could grow wider or thinner depending on the players distance to the portal origin. (think: stretching rubber, etc.)

Placed portal:
The tether will show a direct link between the portal’s entrance and exit, meaning that enemies and allies can visually see the direction and general area of the other portal, allies can use this information to gauge whether it is a portal they should take or not, and enemies can use this information to try and position for potential escape paths from the mesmer, or enemy reinforcements.

Broken Link (out of range):
When the mesmer goes beyond the 5000 range, the animation below them should turn red, and the tether/string animation should break/disappear to show the player they have gone a bit too far. This information is useful to the mesmer to know the range threshold physically when placing the exit portal. Enemies can also use this information to gauge when to try and engage a mesmer who has a placed portal (if the enemy sees the red animation, they can engage the mesmer knowing they are out of range of the portal range for a quick escape)

Tomes of Knowledge would be the best use for them. Guest to a server with balth open will get you obby shards much easier and watchwork sprockets are a dime-a-dozen on the TP.

They stand there and are the primary forcus for your interact button, so you have to wiggle and move around when you get to one of these places to actually use the thing. Random NPCs and charr soldiers and whatnot are not what I want to interact with when I run up to these locations, yet they block the way like NPC trolls :/

So even after that massive CDI thread, and all the ideas thrown in there…they implement 1 of them, hike up the price and kitten over the playerbase some more.

Whoever is in charge of this decision should be fired quite frankly, they do not know a lick about gaming or it’s community, and should be better put somewhere where their skills are put to use…something that doesn’t involve fun, because they seem to want to ruin it.

Seasons and Rating Gear

I hate to say it, but traditional MMOs did it right in this case.

Having unique skins and interesting PvP-aquired gear that is behind a rating hurdle, or gained from various Season rewards is actually a good idea.

The gear doesnt have to be gear, just skins, and people would be ok with it.

Think about the bronze/silver/gold cape trims from GW1, these were prestige, gained by the best teams when they became the top tier in GvG Rating, and the unique emotes gained by the top tier HoH players.

There needs to be a little more for PvP players to aspire for, when thinking about going big and trying to become the best. Glorious armor is a joke, but at least it is a step in a kinda-right direction.

The kitten hodgepodge tournies that are being held are the issue there, nothing “official”, no automated tournies, or proper ranking/season for teams to compete in proper tournament settings in-game everything is pretty much community run and noone knows it exists 1/2 the time.

Unlocking rarer and rarer skins for my character is something I have always enjoyed…

The problems with that in this game is that:

a.) The cosmetics are too thin, not enough customization (aka you can never change the color of a glow/effect on armor pieces/weapons.

b.) lack of weapon dye and customizations (why not let us build a weapon? various types of hilts and blades etc. that can be unlocked and used to “build” your perfect sword)

c.) Progression < Having fun….having fun should always be the priority. Next time you add any kind of progression ask yourself “is this enjoyable to do?” is it enjoyable to craft ascended armor? (imo….not even in the slightest) I would have actually prefered it be a reward in a fun dungeon instead.

c.2) Refining the core of the game (give every zone a story, or instance, or activity to participate in, other than metas and events….what is with that bandit stronghold in Brisban? make it something people can play and have fun with) would make more sense right now, than looking at new forms of character progression. If the core game isnt fun enough to stand by itself without progression, then adding progression on top of it will make it even less so.

to be honest, with the way the current system is being implemented, nothing will fix the progression in place, because it has already started to drive itself into the river of mediocrity.

The latest example was ascended gear….if this type of thing is going to be added, give players of all types a fun way to get these (buying/farming materials, being time-gated, and feeling like working a second job to get access to these is ANTI-fun)

tl;dr

skins, achievements, and core content that improves you as a player, rather than the gear doing it for you. More skills, traits, and ways to make your character “you” customizing skills, new options.

>> I would like to suggest adding custom siege skins for WvW (Bandit, Orrian, Centuar, Lionguard skins for catapults, ballistae, trebuchets would be something I am sure a lot of people would work towards)

And please….go back and rewatch that Manifesto video a few extra times and try and let it sink in.

And have to agree with them wholeheartedly. Even though we now have more interaction with the community (testing programs and CDI). It seems that some of the core wants and needs of the community are thrown wayward simply because they want to be different.

Simple aspects that could be added to the game, simply aren’t because they already exist somewhere else, they want something new and different, and are willing to sacrifice the playerbase (or at least their sanity) to achieve that.

All in all…why don’t we have GvG?

They should have allowed people with accounts authorized for more than 3 months a much higher limit so there weren’t as many false-positives. Instead we’re stuck with being treated like criminals for no actual benefit.

Alot of gold sellers use hacked accounts, so this has 0 impact on that.

Why are Thiefs so toxic for a PvP team?

If the thieves are competent enough to actually play the objective instead of chasing, and tunnel visioning on targets, they can do ALOt of work outside of a teamfight, and if they time their engage right, can help a teamfight swing in a few seconds as well (they just can’t, or shouldn’t stay in a teamfight)

If a thief can decap a point, thats great…if they leave that decapped point to chase someone around the map though while the enemy team properly rotates in the 4v4, its bad, and gives up the advantage the thief just gained.

Most thieves are too caught up in the “if its red, its dead” mentality and don’t play to their strengths of super-powering a 2v1, making priority targets waste time trying to kill them, or forcing enemy movements around points for long enough periods of time that the decap/point discrepancy becomes noticeable.

I have had excellent thieves on my team that feel like they are on all 3 points at once, at all times. Then there are others that you can see fighting in no-mans-land trying to 1v1 a DH for no reason….

Game Breaking downed sliding bug

When players become downed there seems to be some bug that causes their body to move and slide away from their actual location, making it impossible to stomp or melee cleave them.

I have seen it happen 3 time in the past couple hours. And it is quite game changing

How many have people found?

the six I take note of are:

- /dance in front of Abaddon
- The mysterious red chest behind the stacks of boxes (looks kinda canthan/zaishen)
- The strange noises you hear when walking around on the boxes in the stacked box room (breaking items, live animals, etc.)
- The giant Jade Block containing a Sea Wurm from Cantha.
- The Upper floor is a map of Tyria (world)

And the one I found most interesting, the exact replica of the throne/pedastal/shrine for the Ghostly Hero, that briefly appeared and vanished shorty after!

Rating +/- is so demoralizing

Getting around +4 for a win and -20 for a loss is just crushing, demoralizing and removes all and any incentive to even queue. when you have to work exponentially harder to even come out even in rating, that to me sounds like a problem.

An example:

My last 9 matches:

Total Rating gain: 40 ( +9, +4, +4, +9, +6, +8)

Total Rating loss: 52 (-16,-17-19)

Win/Loss: 6-3

So all in all, 60% winrate, total rating change of -12

The losses, as well, were all REALLY close games (433-500, 495-501, 459-500) which makes the rating loss feel even worse.

Their algorithm of combining ratings from all teammates in mainly randomly chosen teams is abhorrent, and does nothing but punish players who solo, and barely gives any control for those who duo.

I feel like they probably try, and something stops them. I can only imagine they have a ton of content, etc. all 50% done, that just got put on the backburner when someone higher up says to start working on something else.

I honestly wonder how many partially completed zones there are, weapons, skills, that may have all been thrown to the side to focus on other projects ‘cough Living World cough’

I am honestly more impressed by some update regiments as F2P games…Firefall, Warframe, Planetside 2 get updates all the time, good ones, content ones, balance ones, etc….I think some management and decision making strides need to be changed here.

In WvW, server rivalry and splitting is necessary, but for PvE this is not the case, and as time goes on, more and more zones become ghost towns where you rarely run into another player.

I propose that each ZONE in PvE should be its own singular server (split by region), and when that server fills, a new one is created, so on and so forth, similar to the current system, but disregards the original server choice.

This way no matter what, the zones will always be filled with player regardless of their server choice.

Nothing in your daily routine is the same as mine, does that mean the game should cater purely to you?

Vital Persistence and Speed of Shadows….why

Vital Persistence just didn’t have anything to compete with, it wasn’t “too strong”, the other 2 options are just too situational or just complete garbage….so there was only 1 option to take honestly.

Speed of Shadows is nice for swiftness since we don’t really have great mobility, but the loss of 20% shroud recharge really make it feel awful, now rotations are even slower and there is less reactionary play when swapping between shroud and weapons.

Maybe the balance team just plays insanely casually and think these are great changes, but to people who actually have mechanical skill and can weave these traits into their playstyle, this is gutting.

The one where when you become immobilized in motion, can sometimes cause your character to be considered “falling” thus making you completely unable to use skills. (stun breaks, condi removals, everything)

The community doesn’t have the best track record for recommending changes. I would also argue that the community did not go out of its way to make it successful. There were a few people that made an effort to make it successful, but not nearly enough.

There were actually quite a few good suggestions way back when, but Anet never read the forums much, threads were shut down, and really Anet never implemented any 1/2 decent changes anyways.

Really they just have to look back at GW1 for inspiration, but they ignore it like the plague.

Tutorial

  • An important issue that needs to be addressed currently is that players are not properly reminded or directed to the PvP Builds window, and since there is no default hotkey to open this window during a practice match, most players stumble into sPvP with the pre-build traits/runes/amulet/etc. thinking they are running what they have in other game-modes.

But on top of that, I still see we have these pre-set pvp builds that players don’t even know they have loaded, because the game doesn’t tell how anything works in the sPvP lobby. (See: Any Class with Soldier’s Amulet w/ Rune of Lyssa)

Players are never directed to the training grounds properly either…SO how about:

For the very first time (prior to ever joining a pvp match/ranked/unranked/practice)

(Optional)All PvP reward tracks are locked until you complete a basic “Training Track” that would involve mechanics in the training area and progress something similar to: (excluding cannons…because no current maps use them)

Each of these will have a popup window (like hints) that would describe actions and rewards for these mechanics. (the hints/popup descriptions will be in bold)

  • Visit the Training Grounds area.
    (Here, we will learn about the basic mechanics of the various PvP Environments.)
  • Open your PvP Build window.
    (This screen will help you build your character to fight alongside teammates in PvP matches. These Traits, Sigils and Amulet are all you need to get started in PvP. These will change as you swap between PvP and PvE areas, so be sure to open this window when you enter any PvP zone to double-check your setup.)
  • Rally an ally in the Training Grounds.
    (Keeping your allies alive is important in all game-types, but even more so in a PvP environment, so be sure to revive fallen allies to keep your team strong.)
  • Stomp an Enemy in the Training Grounds.
    (Just as important as reviving allies, defeating an enemy is also a great way to strengthen your team, and make your enemies rethink their strategy.)
  • Use a Trebuchet in the Training Grounds.
    (This secondary objective is located on the Battle of Khylo PvP map and allows you to bombard an area with heavy hitting Trebuchet shots to give your allies the edge in battle.)
  • Destroy a Trebuchet in the Training Grounds.
    (Both teams in Battle of Khylo start the match with a trebuchet ready for them, so destroying the enemies is a great way to reduce any advantage they can gain from it.)
  • Repair the broken Trebuchet in the Training Grounds.
    (Even if your Trebuchet is destroyed, or you destroy the enemy team’s Trebuchet, the Repair Kit is a tool that can make it usable again during a match.)
  • Gain a temporary buff by defeating The Chieftain or Svanir in the Training Grounds.
    (By defeating these neutral monsters on the Forest of Niflhel, you will grant your team an instant 25 points as well as a helpful buff to boost your team’s power and stats.)
  • Kill the enemy Guild Lord.
    (On the Legacy of the Foefire map, there is a powerful NPC heavily guarded in each team’s base. By defeating this NPC you will grant your team an instant 150 points.)
  • Channel and capture a neutral node in the Training Grounds.
    (Many maps in PvP require you to channel for a brief moment in order to capture an objective or buff. Such as the Orb of Ascension on Spirit Watch, the Cannon on Skyhammer and various buffs on Temple of the Silent Storm.)

  • Capture a neutral capture point in any PvP match.
  • Capture an enemy controlled Capture Point in any PvP match.
  • Defend a capture point your team controls for 10 seconds in any PvP match.

For players who own the Super Boom Box, perhaps, if they complete 1 zone of Tribulation mode, they should be allowed to KEEP the Shard of Duskk, and be able to use this item to change the tracks that the 2 Boomboxes have, to their respective metal versions!

It would be easy enough to move all the camp guards closer to the center, so you’d always have to fight all of them to flip a camp. But to be clear, you guys are arguing that you want to do ‘more PvE’, which seems to go against the forum’s current agenda of ‘less PvE.’

I don’t recall people ever complaining about too much PvE before the introduction of DBL. It obviously refers to the high density of unnecessary mobs and obstacles in DBL.

That makes you suggestion disingenuous at best.

Never heard of people complaining about too much PvE before DBL? Where have you been? It’s been a complaint since a week after launch. When peopole started random creatures to rally/use movement skills/stealth/etc. when in fights. And who didn’t love being randomly put into combat speed in open field when hitting one by accident.

Just to confirm, we are working on new maps. I can’t give too many details, but a few things:

1) We’re trying maps with no cap points.
2) We’re trying mechanics that focus on high risk/reward mechanics that can win to sudden wins/sudden losses.
3) We’re trying maps that focus on “big play” moments that permanently impact the map flow/map status.
4) I can’t give an ETA on when you’d see one live, because we’re trying different maps, and each of them takes time to prototype, etc.

I think that conquest is easy for new players to get into, and it’s allowed for some amazing high-level games so far! But we’d like to try some new things that get away from conquest.

Also, as many of us have said, we want to give players enough variety such that they can change what they play from time to time, while also being sure that we don’t fracture the player-base by spreading players out to too many different game types.

I know this isn’t a super exhaustive answer, but just wanted to give you guys a quick update.

How about…you know, a test server?! No glory, no reward, just a few servers set up and designed to gauge average player interaction. Or a test realm all together, a secondary mini-client that had pre-live balance passes and mechanics for testing outside of the general internal setting.

Whenever you spawn or respawn when on the blue side for the Revenge of the Capricorn map, it will always face you East (off-map) facing the wall, instead of towards the gate.

Proposition:

When a player selects to join spectator, they are locked into spectator for 1 minute.

Problem:

In Hotjoin matches, players who are in Spectator are considered “active players” by the server architecture.

Example: So lets say there are 10 total players in the server, 1 in spectator, 4v5 playing. the “play now” feature automatically searches for low population matches that have just begun.

This server now becomes exempt from the “play now” feature, and this is one of the primary reasons for 0-500 4v5 matches. The only way more players will join the server is if the match is within the first couple minutes of starting, or if they manually select the server from the server list/browser.

This needs to be addressed first.
