My birthday gift bug/user error

I won’t be as harsh as BrotherBelial. Still, this isn’t something that can be fixed. It’s certainly not a bug. User error? No. You didn’t know at the time. Even if you’d told Support at the very first chance that you regretted deleting that character (which you did on purpose, you weren’t hacked), they’d not have been able to do much about it.

But you will eventually get the birthday gifts, even if it’s a year later than others get them (it’s still years earlier than others will). I recommend that you enjoy the prospect of what’s coming rather than feeling any bitterness towards others for having something you don’t yet have.

Suggestions Wasted effort?

I think every single change to the daily achievements has been preceded by discussions on the forum. Most recently there were lots of topics from people asking for a cap on the total number of points and how many achievements you have to do per day – which lead to the current system of doing 3 achievements for 10 points (instead of up to 10 per day for 1 point each as it was before) – and then people said doing dailies after you reach the cap feels pointless and some people miss it, so they added 2g to the rewards.

There are numerous other examples too.

I suspect the main reason they don’t reply to say that they like an idea is they don’t want to set up unrealistic expectations.

Firstly because making anything for a game takes longer than many people realise. If they say they like an idea and will use it some people will be expecting it by next Tuesday, or the next big update at the absolute latest and in the majority of cases that’s just not realistic. But when it doesn’t happen it becomes another case of Anet “lying” and deliberately breaking their promises to disappoint players.

But it’s also highly unlikely that anyone at Anet has the authority to say that on their own. If they like an idea they’ll need to pitch it to the relevant people, who will discuss it and work out how to implement it. And even if it does happen it may be changed in some key ways from the original version, which might then disappoint people who saw the thread.

Fractals - Old infusions are useless...

Still don’t understand what your reason is for preventing this. What does it have to do with you? What would you lose if this change went through? The one that’s being obnoxious and unreasonable is you and not the ‘crybaby’ op.

Wow, blatant strawman is blatant. No one is preventing it. What we are saying is it is not OWED to him. If it happens it happens. But saying “he should be able to upgrade them” is asinine.

“Anet, change the old ones to +7 AR…. or give us the possibility to upgrade them.” -OP

This is telling Anet to change it. This isn’t just a suggestion. And again, us saying that doesn’t make us obnoxious simply because you agree with the OP. He’s complaining about his AR when he could very clearly max it right now. He already spent a legendaries worth to get the infusions. He does not ‘need’ 7/5 to max his AR. Therefore Anet is in not way required to put them in. If they do, that would be nice, however again, he probably already know the problem ahead of time, he could easily remedy.

Here is the reddit thread again: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/4fsee7/with_the_new_incentive_to_run_hightier_fractals
If you read all of the developer’s comments, it’s quite clear to me that they perceive the current state of the 5/5 stat infusions to be a problem. Now you’ll tell me that they never clearly state this. I’ll tell you to it’s in the subtext. Next you’ll claim it could mean anything and you’ll remain convinced that you’re correct.

For one, I never said that. Also Anet never stated that they would implement that particular thing. Or anything for that matter. They stated they tried to make changes. As to what changes those are, not even you know that. 5/5 infusions being a problem also doesn’t mean they will make them +7/5, nor does it mean they will even be salvagable, or upgradable. It’s dishonest to draw unconfirmed conclusions from vague writing.

I understand it’s quite pointless to have an argument with people on the internet, aside from entertainment reasons. All I’m interested in is if there is a valid reason for why you’re being a kitten.

Then why are you here to begin with? Saying that it’s pointless doesn’t make it pointless. It just makes you look like a fool for engaging in the very thing which you say is pointless. Also, entertainment IS a point. So you just invalidated your own argument.

We all know Tyria to be a unbelievably rich world, full of detail; some of it amazingly well conceived, and as such I’m sure that from time to time, you like me have stopped for nothing more simple than to take in the landscape; listen too and watch events and why not, for the content of this living breathing world is well worth exploring.

And as such there are times when I would like to get up close to a Warg or a Orrian and have a really good look at them; or to stand in the midst of a war zone and just take in the sheer majesty of it all without worrying about my virtual skin or being attached for doing so.

To this end, I would like to propose an option for Guild Wars 2, that of making the avatar invisible to all enemies – in effect making them unable to see or perceive you, allowing the observer to go about the business of examination of Tyria’s environment without risk to themselves. And while in said mode to have a free hand as to where the game camera can be aimed, so it can be steered in any direction to see everything within a given range. The only limit being a non-clip lock-out so you cannot pass through walls with the camera but can go over things – this is, after all, exploration..

I for one would enjoy that, for it would allow me to visit places which are just too dangerous to go.

But I’m sure like anything else the lazy and the unimaginative would consider using such an option to get advantage, so I further propose that when said option is active, the character cannot gain any experience potential whatsoever. This way it becomes a tool for curiosity, not exploitation.

Activation can be accomplished via command-line input, perhaps /explore and the same again to toggle switch on/off. Logging, out or changing avatars will automatically change status to off. Other players can of course see the person who is using this option, but NPCs, friendly/unfriendly cannot and the person using said option is denied the ability to collect resources or use weapons but will be granted flight capability.

How does one solo HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Vayne.8563

Vayne.8563

What part of ‘solo’ do you fail to understand?

What part of context do you understand.

There are two ways to interpret solo. One is to do something alone. One is to to something without going with friends.

You can go solo to a party, but you won’t be alone at the party. You just didn’t go with anyone.

If I ask how to solo lupi, that means one thing. If I say I want to go through HOT without ever joining a group or organizing my play, it MIGHT mean doing it without anyone else around, but it most likely means I don’t want to group and I want to make progress.

Sometimes context is everything.

I’m just saying they need to put in something that has XP matter after max level and Masteries. Nothing is more discouraging than seeing numbers popping up all the time and knowing they mean exactly nothing.

So your thread has nothing to do with map completion then. Keep your thread titles relevant to what you actually want to discuss, as Map completion isn’t just about getting experience.

And there are already multiple other threads about wasted experience after you finish your masteries.

Anyone who starts an argument with “this is an MMO” has already lost it. MMOs are anything to everyone. There is no right or wrong to an MMO. If someone says that they want something, "this is an MMO is never an valid reason why they should not have it. Specifically to GW2, GW2 never had 10-man premade content before this, and players were happy with that for three years. To say that they should be happy with it now because “this is an MMO” is a bit ridiculous.

You’re wrong. By definition it’s an MMO – massive multiplayer – it’s not supposed to deliver a stellar single-player experience. Or to put it in another way – it’s not designed around the concept of catering to people that want to go at it solo. There are a lot of things that MMOs might mean to people – but this is a core concept of any MMO.
It is NOT a single-player experience.

I didn’t say that it’s an MMO in a generic way – the MMO nature specifically explains why he can’t have a strong single-player experience – there’s no dev incentive to push resources in that direction. There are already STELLAR single-player games out there that Anet just can’t compete with.

Also – what players were happy with that for 3 years? You?

So that people who don’t want to raid, but do want that particular reward, will have some alternate method of earning it.

But that’s not what should happen – the developers didn’t want this to be a thing. Otherwise this would be a thing already. Raids are for raiders – and so are RAID rewards.
If you want the lore – go ahead – there are many means to get them – but without putting in the time and effort then you shouldn’t get the rewards regardless of how much you want them – because at the end of they day you don’t want them enough.

But they aren’t really “raid rewards,” there’s nothing inherently “raidy” about someone wearing Experimental armor.

There’s nothing inherently “anythingy” about any reward in this game – it’s arbitrary. Some skins got arbitrarily linked to WvW, others to PvP, others to areas of PvE. Some skins are now linked to Raids.

They chose to put the armor into raids, they can just as easily make them available someplace else, just as they chose to put dungeon armor in dungeons, but then later also into PvP tracks.

There’s a distinct difference between these – dungeons were meant to be much more accessible than raids. Raids aren’t supposed to be easy and easily accessible – and neither are the rewards.

For the time being, and many of us are saying that in the future we’d like something different.

And me and many others are saying we’d like things to stay the same.

ANet wants to keep players happy. If ANet removing those subjective barriers would make those players happy, it would be well worth the effort.

Except you don’t know that – you’re just saying things that make you feel better. But there’s no real proof that they even CAN do that. Or that it would be worth their time and effort. Or that it would even work.

People should look to themselves to solve THEIR OWN issues – not the developers. In 2016 everyone needs handsholding now don’t they?

So again, it would make you happy to keep other players sad. I’m not sure why ANet would want to honor that. Raiding is something that makes you happy, and you got it. I’m not trying to take that away from you. An easy mode raid is something that would make me happy, I don’t understand why you feel it would be just to stand in the way of that.

It wouldn’t make me happy or sad or anything. I don’t care what others do – they chose to make themselves sad because they refuse to change, adapt, improve or strive for something.
Instead they flood the forums with cries of “pls Anet give me give me”. I just don’t want things devalued because people are asking for handouts for something that is perfectly attainable if you are willing to attain it.

It’s not me making them sad – but rather their own incapacity to overcome their self-imposed limitations.

Raiding is something that makes you happy, and you got it. I’m not trying to take that away from you. An easy mode raid is something that would make me happy, I don’t understand why you feel it would be just to stand in the way of that.

Because an easy mode to raids makes ME unhappy – the same way a hard mode to dungeons was what made “casuals” unhappy every time me or others suggested it.
The same way Raids make some “casuals” unhappy to the point they flood the forums with “abandon raids” and “kill the elitist 1%”.

An easy mode to raids WITH easy loot is what is going to devalue the meaning behind the raid gear we currently have. Some raid items ACTUALLY MEAN SOMETHING right now. They mean you’re either of a certain skill level or at least very rich.
With “ezPzlemonsqueezy” mode that will all go away.

Yes, and the solution to that problem would be to no longer require that.

My problem is that I have to play and work towards legendary armor – but by your logic I can just spam the forums with QQ and as you put it " the solution to that problem would be to no longer require that".

If you can have things handed out to you – why not me? Why not everyone? Why should we have to play the game when Anet can make it so that it’s no longer required – right?

Because some enjoy it while others do not. Everyone should be able to play how they enjoy.

And what’s keeping you from playing how you enjoy? What If I enjoy playing WvW but nobody on my server does – shouldn’t Anet make it so that I can solo zergs by myself? Because that’s what I enjoy?

If you enjoy raiding – then raid.
If you don’t enjoy raiding – don’t raid. It is that simple. How is anyone forcing you to do something you don’t enjoy?

If there were not practical difficulties involved then we would not be having this conversation. Just because you can find a group that works for you does not mean that it works for everyone.

It boggles my mind that you’re like this. Everything in life has “practical difficulties”. Get it? Everything.
Humans are built do ADAPT and COPE with difficulty- meeting it and overcoming it through trial, effort and personal improvement.
Do you think that “I can find a group that works for me” easily? No – I couldn’t. But I found a group because I tried and worked towards it. Why can’t others? Why can I and not others? What’s holding them back except their own reluctance to do it instead of asking to be taken along and having their problems fixed by others?

Just accept that it does not work for everyone and move on with the discussion understanding that.

Just accept that it’s EVERYONE’s individual task to find what works for them. And if they can find a solution than they’ll get their problem fixed. And if they can’t then they can’t and they won’t be able to raid. IT’s that simple.
If you can make the cut you make the cut and if you can’t you can’t. Nobody is special.

Just accept this and move on with the discussion after you’ve understood it.

So you would agree that a bit more goes into it than “If you want a ‘non-toxic’ raiding environment all you have to do is get nine friends.”

This is complete BS.
The first static I was with I didn’t even know that well until we started raiding- most of us met there for the first time and didn’t know each other beforehand – we became friends as we raided together and banded together closely because of the experience.

But then again – we were all there to improve, learn and not leech off one another. We came in with a constructive attitude of “we’re bad – let’s get good together” – and we were in game practicing – not whining on the forums.

If here they fall they shall live on when ever you cry “For Ascalon!”

Nope. Was removed in a patch a while back. Enjoy!

EDIT; more specific, you don’t need ANY wvw completion. Same goes for Dry Top, Silverwastes and Southsun Cove, not needed. Those zones do provide level 80 map completion rewards though so feel free to complete them too if desired.

World completion requires completing all the following maps:

All six cities.
The 25 explorable zones, except Southsun Cove and zones in the Maguuma Wastes
The Chantry of Secrets.

The following areas do not count towards world completion:

Dungeons.
Hall of Monuments.
Edge of the Mists and Obsidian Sanctum.
Heart of the Mists and any Structured PvP areas.
Explorable zones that were added after the release of the game, such as Southsun Cove, and the zones in the Maguuma Wastes.
All maps in the Heart of Maguuma region, added with the Heart of Thorns expansion.
Claw Island, as it is a story instance only.

I’m not a raider, but I’m still gonna yell at you…kinda.

Your first suggestion would cover the needs of the lore hounds by giving them story mode, and it would allow players just curious about raids to poke their noses in without getting nuked from orbit by the first mob they come across. Like I said, I don’t raid, and I’ve relied on nice people to open done raid wings for me to poke around in at my leisure, so your first suggestion is something I’d like to see implemented.

The second suggestion is something I can’t quite wrap my head around. Since when is nerfing anything into the ground ever a good idea? Also, where do you draw that line that says content is no longer relevant – and to whom? Let’s say a raid instance comes out this month…when should it be nerfed? In a year? Half a year? What about the new players coming into the game? Or the people who’ve played for a while, and who might not, for whatever reason, have had the time or inclination to go into that raid when it was relevant? I don’t raid now, but who knows, I might change my mind, and if I do, I’d want the full experience even if that includes having my posterior handed to me by mob/boss mechanics.

In my opinion, ‘old’ content should always be available to new players, and also to veterans who didn’t play it when it was ‘relevant’. This is one of my main gripes with GW2: I started playing last year and I am seriously peeved that I only get a nerfed LS1 in the form of a few cut scenes and a bunch of items purchasable through Laurels – and let’s not forget the items/titles (?) I can’t get at all, unless I purchase them for a lot of gold from the TP.

So, TL;DR: Option one – yes, please. With cherries on top. Option two…no thanks.

The same attitude happened when they made the base game free, when HoT was released, countless topics talking about how they felt betrayed by Anet because they paid for it, and now people would get it for free. Like if that made the years they played before totally worthless.

Like I said it’s an ongoing attitude, I just cited the tribal as another example. I personally don’t feel cheated by changes in MMOs, specially considering how much they actually change.

Now, for the last time, I UNDERSTAND that some people prefer the shinies t stay for those who played GW1 only. I personally prefer not to be asked to play another game to get things in a game I actually play, and I feel like things change all the time, so even if they said they would keep them GW1 exclusive, it nwouldn’t shock or disappoint me if they changed it.

That is all, you don’t have to agree with me.

But you don’t understand that the method of getting them is by playing GW1. They are a thank you for playing GW1. Not a thank you for playing GW2. The Tha k you for playing GW2 was the Royal Guard outfit. You could only have it if you played GW2 before it was added. Anyone after that dose not get it. That too was a loyalty thing. I don’t see the problem for 3. in the aquisition of ascended equipment. Ascended stuff is only required for mid-high lvl fractals and raids. Fractals are meant to be played while you slowly aquire more ascended stuff, which enables you to tackle higher fractal levels. Raids on the other hand are especially designed for players who have the maximum achievable amount of power and teamwork. This is not something a new player is supposed to enter after a month or two of play.

In my opinion ascended gear is in a good place. If you don’t have the means to aquire ascended gear, then you most likely also don’t have the necessary experience to play the content that requires it. The only problem is that ANet should make it more obvious to new players, that it’s perfectly sufficient and fine to go for exotic equipment and play with that for a while. The difference in stats is so low, that you will only notice it at all once you’re at a skill level where aquiring ascended equipment is no longer a dream. The rush for bis gear tends to ignore this though.

No, others getting it easier doesn’t remove the feeling of satisfaction, it is not retroactive, I know what I had to endure to get it. I know I earned it my way, the hard way. others getting it easier don’t take away that from me at all. I don’t get that line of thinking.
There are thousands of things that are made easier with time, in GW2, in games, in life. ALL the time. If I got upset each time it happened, I would go crazy.

While I understand the sentiment, unfortunately that is not how human psychology works. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Effort_justification)

So while you personally might not be affected by this, or might not notice how this affects you which is more likely, a great amount of individuals would.

One could argue that the amount of negatively affected players (the ones who oppose the change) would be smaller than the amount of positively affected players (the ones who agree with the change) might be equal and the crowd who doesn’t care is big enough as to not make a big dent satisfaction wise.

The one thing that in any case would suffer is Arenanets credibility. It’s a lose-lose for them in this case.

I don’t want the skins. They’re n ot my cup of tea to be honest. and I barely have enough time to play GW2 to start another game now.
I’m just curious why people even care. It’s not the first time a gaming company backtracks on something they said before.

So your expectations are low enough that you don’t care any more if a company backtracks on their word, great. That is still no proper argument or justification why it should be okay in the first place.

I could see an argument made IF the rewards were unobtainable, but even then it would cause serious trust/respect issues especially from a loyal crowd of players. As is, the rewards still are available and even in the same way as before.

Guild Halls for Smaller Guilds

As a member of a small guild, who does not want to be part of a larger 100+ player guild, I and my guildies have found the task of upgrading the guild hall to be somewhat insurmountable. While it is “possible” with enough time, the cost is vast to the point of being disheartening.

I don’t really have anything against some kind of smaller guildhall, but nothing in the current system is insurmountable.

I run a guild that’s had no more than a dozen active members since HoT came out. Right now, we’re really down to 5, and 1 of them is on vacation for a few months with effectively no internet access. We’ve had no trouble getting to level 37, and have just about everything but ecto and wood for the next bunch of upgrades which will take us over 40.

Being in a guild is about teamwork and sometimes small sacrifices. Decide what is important to the guild as a whole. Plan a goal and know what is needed for that goal. And every week, just do a small amount of work towards that goal. It doesn’t need to be huge. 10 wood planks, or 2 ecto, or 1 lodestone, or whatever in a week. It adds up over time with even only a few people contributing.

You only need 6 people for puzzles. The recommended number is higher to let you have a greater margin of error and so you’re not as hard pressed for time. Even so, I wouldn’t try doing Hard Bounty with only 6 people given the selections for those can be pretty nasty (looking at you, Yanonka) with some of their routes being incredibly long (Diplomat Tarban/Prisoner 1141) and eating up a lot of time. Some people advertise in LFG that they’re about to do guild missions so maybe that’s something to consider if you’re short on numbers? You can always have the people leave the guild when you’re done, as well as making missions more accessible to those who maybe want to remain guildless but want commendations for ascended accessories.

Anet purposely wants scholars, adventurers and soldiers to be visually distinct.

While I don’t disagree with most of what you said (there are definitely a multitude of issues with either option), the quoted statement isn’t necessarily true anymore.

Yes, anet originally wanted the 3 tiers to be visually recognizable for “reasons.” Which was understandable. However, with the change over to outfits that are usable in combat, that statement pretty much got blown out of the water.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

  • guard rails (Vanguard Hospital, Salma District, Divinity’s Reach)
  • plain flags in colours other than “Red Flag” and “White Flag”
  • Large Guild Banner (as already listed in Wiki)
  • Gilded Banner (as already listed in Wiki)
  • gym equipment (Farhar of Young Heroes, Black Citadel)
  • training dummy (various types all over Tyria)
  • chalkboards (Farhar of Young Heroes, Black Citadel)
  • weapon racks (various types all over Tyria)
  • fabric room dividers (Oceanside Ordinance, Straits of Devastation)

Furniture:

  • norn chairs & furniture (Durgar’s Homestead, Snowden Drifts) (Gavbeorn’s WP, Cursed Shore)
  • charr chairs & furniture (home instance, Black Citadel)
  • picnic table (SAB)(NE of Town of Cathal WP, Caledon Forest)
  • desk (many regular ones throughout Tyria) (standing desk behind Willow in basement of The Maiden’s Whisper, Divinity’s Reach)

Lighting:

  • streetlight with hanging planters and banners (N of Minister Wi’s Mansion, Divinity’s Reach)
  • octopus wall sconce (Order of Whispers headquarters, LA)

Plants:

  • more mid-sized flowers and plants (approx. Jungle Grass size) (large fern, Caledon Haven Waypoint, Caledon Forest) (orange shrubs beside Loreclaw WP, Plains of Ashford)
  • more mid-sized trees (with greenery near the ground) (weeping willow, Royal Terrace, Divinity’s Reach)
  • climbing plants like ivy that we can put on walls (already in guild hall)

Statues:

  • more statues in general(medium & large sized)
  • Abbadon
  • golden dragon statues (inner chamber, Tarir, Auric Basin)
  • water bearer statue (beside Ossan WP, Divinity’s Reach)
  • armed angels (Ebonhawke Asura Gate, Divinity’s Reach)
  • golden water bearer wall plaques/statues (in tower at Plaza of Lyssa, Divinity’s Reach)
  • norn spirit totem statues (freestanding and/or wall mounted) (various locations in Hoelbrak)
  • other racial statues (to go with the “Charr Statue” we can already make; possibly other statues from Langmar Estate Guild Puzzle)

Other:

  • rugs
  • piles of firewood (Wynchona Rally Point WP, Harathi Hinterlands)
  • bundle of all one colour balloons (especially white)
  • beer/water wagon with awning (south of Busted Flagon, Divinity’s Reach)
  • apple cart
  • more paintings for the walls
  • drums (Kyesjard, Timberline Falls)

New items for us to make (that don’t already exist in game):

  • picnic set (blanket with basket) (blanket on beach south of Farshore WP, LA)
  • beanbag chairs / large floor pillows (charr-sized)
  • piles of floor pillows (like in the Vabbi Library in GW1)
  • more topiaries
  • Potted Shrub that actually looks like the image in the icon for Potted Shrub

Recipe review requests:

  • mists statues (tiny, 100 badges of tribute each). Would suggest either much cheaper to make, or larger (like the dolyaks in LA).
  • guild chair/stool/barstool (20/40/50 resonating fragments to make). Would suggest significant reduction in number of resonating slivers needed to make these items.
  • square guild bar/guild bar (20 resonating fragments/20 resonating lodestones plus 60 resonating fragments to make). Would suggest a significant reduction in the number of resonating slivers needed to make these items.
  • summit banners (3 summit flags each (75 cotton bolts) / racial summit banners (50 linen bolts and 75 cotton bolts each)). Would suggest not requiring Summit Flags to create the Summit Banner.
Also, why does the Summit Flag have 2 flags on the pole, but the racial Summit Flags have only one flag? Was originally expecting one Summit Flag and one Racial Flag per Racial Summit Flag pole.
  • hedge/hedge corner/hedge pillar (need 6 evergreen lodestones each). Would suggest removal of Spire Topiary intermediate step.
  • elegant square pillar (12 essence of elegance @50s each). Would suggest decreasing number of essences required to make it to perhaps half.
  • Maguuma Lily (Double and Triple Bloom) (single needs 1 maguuma lily, double needs 3 total, triple needs 6 total Maguuma Lilies). Would suggest double and triple bloom versions just use 1 new Maguuma Lily in addition to existing plant, instead of 2 or 3.

Why not just move to a full DLC model?

It is your opinion that HoT didn’t meet your personal expectations. Please don’t presume to speak for the rest of us.

they objectively couldn’t deliver what they have promised.

The expansion was supposed to come out with a full raid and a set of new legendaries out of the box. So many months in, new legendaries got outright canceled and the raid is only getting finished right now.

Actually you got that completely wrong. Anet outright stated before release that the raid and the legendary weapons would come in staggered releases after the expansion. The only problem is that we might never be getting the weapons.

It is in pvp too, that’s just a mistake in the patch notes.
