Disparity Between Ascended Crafting Materials

I am surprised at how obtuse people are being. The OP never mentioned the TP in his post. He did point out that light armor recipes require more RNG-acquired materials than heavy armor. That’s it. It has nothing to do with TP prices. Who cares what the TP prices are? Anything that is acquired through RNG is way more expensive on the TP for one simple reason: it is harder to acquire. So…pretend there’s no TP. Then you have a situation in which it is more difficult to get the mats for light armor. That’s always been the case.

My personal issue is the exorbitant cost of making Trailblazer insignias which require gossamer, ’natch, and hardened leather squares. Gossamer and hardened leather is RNG.

For the Trailblazer inscription, for heavy armor, you need Orichalcum and Ancient wood <—- both of these are farmable.

So, ergo, it’s more difficult, and time consuming, to make the light armor runes than the heavy armor ones.

That’s it. No TP. Nada. Zilch.

To farm/salvage mats for light armor is more difficult than for heavy armor.

I could keep repeating myself, if it helps?

It doesn’t matter if they specifically stated the TP or not. The TP is very much a part of this game so it cannot be ignored.

Oh, and refer to the part of your post that I bolded. Silk thread sells for about 1 silver while platinum ore sells for over 3 silver. One can be directly farmed from nodes while the other cannot. Why do you think that is?

The longest title I’ve seen is Post a pic of your character only if your armor is mix n match

If you need more characters than that then you’re trying to put to much into a simple title.

Just a flesh wound.3589

The main reason we get these threads about gem prices is because people buy gems on an impulse. Something good appears in the gem store. The people who didn’t plan ahead all rush to buy gems. The ratio then shoots sky high and someone makes a thread about how high gold to gems are.

Make a habit of buying at regular intervals. Buy a set amount of gems per time period or when you reach a certain amount of gold. That way you won’t be buying gems when the prices are peaked. They’ll still be expensive of course but if you plan ahead you won’t be paying those premium prices.

This may sound odd…but try it anyway.

Remove and personal bank ALL clothing/outfit items on the character – you then have nothing the glitch graphic can ‘fix’ to and it should disappear when you exit a map.

Do this in a city, leave and re-enter.

If it don’t work then your pretty much looking at a support ticket and whether Anet can come up with a fix at their end.

Hope this works for you, worked for me a year or so back…yes its that old.

I have no idea how many people raid in WoW but considering that the lower levels are called welfare raids, I doubt that they would be considered true raiding. They’re more like dungeons for large groups at a time than true raids, with their bosses dumbed down to the level of the casual player. So that 70-100% isn’t telling the whole story. WoW’s end game is essentially running dungeons for gear so dungeon difficulty raids are going to be done at high percents. It doesn’t tell you what numbers of people do the upper, true raid difficulty content.

Edit: link to site discussing numbers MMO Champion

One post
“Roughly 70% of players participate in LFR, with 50% completing it. 40% tried Flex, with under 20% finishing it. Normal was between 25-13%, and Heroic was 10-1%. Note that Siege lasted longer than any other raid tier, so it’s participation is significantly higher than others. If you look at WoWprogress numbers, at most 10% of players have downed Kargath on Heroic (30604 × 30 = 918,120, slightly under 10% of the 10 million subs). Mythic is easier to pin down, being on a fixed raid size: 8815 × 20 = 176,300 Mythic raiders, which is under 2% of the playerbase

Comment: LFR is Looking for Raids. The dumbed down version referred to as welfare raiding.
So in a game where the endgame is doing dungeons and raids, they are calculating 2-10% of the players complete the upper levels of raids.

Let retaliation damage scale of toughness

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fjaeldmark.9043

Fjaeldmark.9043

And Toughness needs to negate a % of Condi Damage or give us more access to Vitality or reduce the CD on cleanses.

This is actually a very bad idea. People really need to stop suggesting it.

First off, conditions are supposed to counter toughness.

Secondly, conditions are balanced around not having a reduction stat. If you added one the damage of conditions would have to increase to compensate. This would mean anyone without said stat would die even faster to conditions.

On topic, toughness is a defensive stat it shouldn’t really give offensive bonuses. If retaliation is to scale off something other than power it should be the strength of the incoming hit. At present retaliation dies very little to slow attacking enemies (like PvE ones). Making large hits cause larger retaliation hits would make it useful against more types of opponent.

Something needs to be done about the current anti cheating system

(Reply to a long post by the OP about how he hacked, made thousands of gold and wasn’t caught)

ANet ChrisCleary
While your tone is overly negative in your post, your story is actually one that I am all too familiar with. This may seem odd to say, but I don’t mind reading it.

Not every system is perfect. It wasn’t the detection that failed here, and because you shared your story with us, I was able to figure out what did. Stories like this reflect back on to our own processes in ways that players may never know, so I’ll share a little insight.

I’ll start off by commenting on people being wrongfully actioned. While not every system is flawless, ours is fairly forgiving when it comes to flagging players. That being said, normally when it comes to players actually being wrongly actioned it is because of human error and not error in detection. Eventually a person needs to review and perform the action. We’ve been doing our best to cut mistakes but every now and then we do make one.

The only case where I can think of where detection has failed us was about 3 years ago when a fluke teleport in a jumping puzzle caused a number of players to get flagged and banned. We fixed that within hours and players were back in. It should have never happened, but it did.

As far as you not getting banned, well, you were flagged. You didn’t evade detection. Your account was in a list of about 300 others that were to be actioned sometime in early April. You should have been actioned, but for some reason you fell through the cracks.

That brings me back to my original point, I don’t mind reading these stories. While we are doing our absolute best to handle players that can’t play fair, this means that it wasn’t a problem with our detection, but that we had a slip-up in our process to handle what our detection found.

Now I go to fix that process so this doesn’t happen again.

The only way to make people stop farming completely is to remove the need for gold.

This thread isn’t about farming though, it is about afk farming. Let’s not get into a general “pro or anti farming in games” discussion. Afk farming is done in addition to normal gameplay, at times when a player normally would not play at all. It is not something a player will choose to do instead of playing the game and it should not influence the reward structure of the game. It is forbidden and should be sanctioned like other offense against the rules. As long as that happens, there should be no problem. I believe the biggest problem with afk farming is that ArenaNet has been a little sloppy when it comes to catching and sanctioning players doing it in the past, as well as communicating that it breaks the rules when it got out of hand after the introduction of the loot mastery.

Shared inventory slots on thier own line...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Just a flesh wound.3589

Just a flesh wound.3589

If there is one category of complaint that consistently puzzles me it is the inventory stuff. I just don’t get why so many folks care so passionately about their bag layout. Surely it is a minor irritation at worst. I just have one “fixed” bag with the keys and consumables in and then treat the rest like a big bucket. I salvage, sell and deposit stuff then hit “compact” to make it neat. It just does not seem that important. <scratches head>

For me it’s purely an irritation of where I expect a specific tool to be, like my Salvage-o-Matic, as a result of this I’m now constantly porting to the HoM because it’s portal stone is now where I normally had my salvager.

I do not understand how the change could have caused this, but it sounds like you could just put the salvage kit where the portal stone is now and trivially fix it yourself.

That is what I did, which has left the shared slot my salvager was in, unused.

If you have only one shared slot isn’t it now at the top left of your inventory? I would think that you would choose the wrong thing once or twice then you would remember, top left. Not the other spot. And remove the portal stone for a day or two until the muscle memory has taken hold, if you needed to.

Or, they could not cave to the wants of one group, without considering those who actually thought it was fine as is, ergo, optional.

I wasn’t talking about what ANet might or might not do. I was talking about what you could do to fix your problem of using a portal stone when you want a salvage kit, which was putting the portal stone away for a few days and put the salvage kit in the shared spot. Doing that will cause you to remember that’s it’s in a new spot without chancing using the portal stone.

You can do that and still complain about ANet messing up your inventory. The two aren’t mutually exclusive.

Experiences on two different server pairings

in WvW

Posted by: SkyShroud.2865

SkyShroud.2865

Fwiw, I don’t think anything can be done about stacking. That is something that Anet can not control, imo.

I don’t think so either, they can’t lock all the servers because then people will complain about not being able to transfer to friends and family on other servers. I’m sure they could look into heavy restrictions for transfers too, but that’s really a waste of time and money. Like I said there were servers that were stacked from the very beginning of the game, it was going to happen one way or another for a multiple server based system.

Completely agree. Have seen exactly the same sorts of things in other mmorpgs with wvw/rvr.

Nope. This kind of thing can be controlled and has been demonstrated in some old true PvP focused MMO. It cannot be 100% balance, that is for sure but the disparity can be greatly minimized to the point that match up variety will naturally occur due to it.

The current system works like this
There is a algorithm to determine the number of active WvW players.
There is a cap on the server, this cap is assumed to be fixed as it is historical observed to behave so and I read it somewhere that some T1 servers had higher than average cap before the revamped server status. Base on this, stacking and destacking easily occur whenever the cap is not reached.

What the really pvp focused MMO did is go a step further
They too have a algorithm to determine the number of active players.
Now, instead of a fixed cap, they calculate the disparity percentage of the fractions and close it if the disparity grew too big. This resulted a scenario where all fractions grow at the same rate. Since the population are rather comparable, a higher degree of population balance is achieved. At the same time, this system literally prevent large scale movement that involve multiple guilds intending to switch sides. If guild wars 2 use this approach, match up variety will likely increase due to closer population, people that complain server full status will know it will open when the disparity reduce.

However, like Xenesis said, there is a problem implementing this and that is 3 long years of stacking which means disparity can be really large and some servers will be locked for a long time. What I can suggest is in accompany with this approach, make 3 lowest populated servers completely free to encourage movement of players, quickly reducing the disparity gap.

However, before they can use this approach, they need to resolve the number of servers.

That’s just absurd. The “baseline economic problem” is that people want money. Period. You can’t fix that.

Guild Hall still too costly.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

PopeUrban.2578

guild halls should be done like GW1, have a sigil that anymone can buy, keep it at a normal price (like 50 gold or so).
now every single guild is able to get a guild hall, now no one can act like they are more superior. (like some guilds love to do)

Nothing in this thread is about getting the hall. Every single guild can get a hal easily. it gosts 100 gold an a really easy mission you can just LFG five people to complete.

Getting the hall is the easy part.

It’s about the cost of making the hall do anything useful. The Upgrades. That’s what people are complaining about.

It’s also the same system used in the first game. Guild Hall upgrading makes players choose between themselves and supporting the guild. Same as the first game. A hall doesn’t do anything useful (except to use it as a GvG map). Upgrading the hall unlocks NPCs and services.

It’s literally the exact same system as the first game, only easier. The Price of a hall in the first game was’nt a flat rate. Those seals came exclusively from player that won the HoH. The NPC that sold them, like all GW1 trade NPCs could only resell what another player sold in the first place. In GW2, nobody needs to “win” the right to get a hall via a worldwide pvp tournament. They just need to kill a couple easy mobs.

except that AFK farming wont kill you, and others around you, if you were to get in a head on collision at 150MPH. Apples and Oranges.

Like so many other people you fail to recognize the difference between a comparison and an analogy. An analogy points out the similarities of underlying principles, while a comparison aims to point out differences.

The similar principle here is “If something is technically possible and intended in certain situations, that does not mean that it is allowed and intended in every situation”.

Pets were designed to be able to kill mobs on their own. That is ok while you blow your nose, take a phonecall, or (to re-use the example) to check why your kid is screaming, but not ok when you intentionally park your char in a mob spawn and keep farming it while afk.

A car may be designed to be able to drive 150 mph. That is ok on a german Autobahn without speedlimit but not ok on a US highway with a fiftyfive limit. (Funny, when I type the number instead of the word fiftyfive the forum will turn it into a kitten.)

Car accidents and dying are as irrelevant to his analogy as environmental pollution, work situation of those assembling the car, color of the car or that a car usually needs gas to drive while an afk farmer needs electricity to farm.

Laws are written for a reason. Rules in a game are different, and when the system the company makes violates the rules, is it truly the players that need to suffer due to it? No.

The system does not violate any rules. The player who decides to afk farm does.

Instead, said company needs to address the rules or fix the broken system. Targeting players for it at this point is not the correct path. There are no 3rd party programs/tools in use, there are no ‘tricks’ being used to violate the game, game files, or servers. Its all built in. And that IS the point.

The rules are fine. The system is not broken. What got you suspended is your decision to have your pc play the game automated with you being afk, not the system that made it possible for you to do so, just like the gun is not at fault when you decide to shoot someone.

Population

Just a flesh wound.3589

And let me add something about population that I’ve said in other threads.

I do key runs on a regular basis and I’ve done them for years. For a long time I was usually the only person in the instance. Some time back they megaservered the starting instance and I started to see one or two people in there the same time as me. Then f2p was added to the game and the starter instance suddenly went from a couple of people (maybe) to 4 or 5 at the spawn point and 4 or 5 at the boss. Since I run straight to the boss it’s usually not the same people. Many times now the boss is dead before I can even get there. This has been going on for months now. No matter what day and no matter what time I do a key run, there are people in there with me. Some of course are old accounts. Sometimes I can tell by guild tags or PvP icons or even non starter appearing gear, but others look new.

For that reason I think the population has a steady influx of new people. Now no one here can say if these people are staying, but at the very least I would say it’s holding steady.
