Guild Hall/Housing why is taking it so long?

I don’t remember ANet saying anything about adding housing, player or guild. So how is it late?

Since you’re just about never on your actual server now, how on earth could they display a local server?

I simply leave my clock on -my- local time (Eastern). Since they announce ANet event stuff as happening Pacific time anyway, I can add 3 hours to it to know my own time and there’s no other math involved.

Piles of silky sand

Yeah, echo this. If I got at least a little something from each pile, I wouldn’t be bothered. 15-20 copper would feel like less of a gip than absolutely nothing.

We could very well call them bags then.

The sand piles are pretty much a secondary extra – something you don’t need to stress over to get it, you simply do by playing, and check if you can get a reward or not.

It is better than “nothing” for a few reasons to me: one, it’s thematic and flavorful; two, it increases loot diversity a slightly, little bit.

In theory, trash loot is not much different, but trash loot is boring. It’s a bunch of grey trash that you get rid of by pressing a “sell trash” button. Piles of Sand are better at grabing your attention.

5000 gold and a few precursors pls

also free ascended pls

maybe throw in 3000 gems too while we’re at it

If they did that people would still flock here and find a reason to complain about it. I can see it now, “3000 gems, meh… Anet is greedy and just trying to get people addicted to the gem store!”

The only thing I am sure we will get is massive amounts of complaints about whatever GIFT we are given.

Bingo. Folks sure do like to complain about free stuff. I deal with it at work all the time and it’s tiresome.

I don’t think you’re meant to grind the sand. It’s more of a supplemental thing. When you’re playing Dry Top, your main objective is Geodes, but for every event you do and every dust mite you kill, you get a side-helping of sand. Thus, after you’ve farmed your Geodes and bought yourself that Nomad gear, you’ve ended up with a few stacks of the stuff to comb through for extra goodies.

Tl;dr: Don’t farm the sand. Farm the Geodes like A-net intended, and the sand will come to you.

General

The in-game clock’s server time feature is now displayed in UTC time and is now much more accurate to the server’s actual time. Daily resets will now occur at midnight as it appears when the clock is set to server time.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-May-20-2014/first#post4054065

There is your heads-up. The times were changed to be more accurate. Server time used to be Pacific Time (which only served the far West of the US), now it’s UTC. You can always use local time, instead.

When is next (third) great MMO coming?

First great was WoW? I played Wow for 6-7 years, saw several guilds born and die. I still wouldn’t call it anything more than the right game at the right time. Here are several others that are at least as good if not better than WoW:

1) Meridian and Ultima – both set the framework for all MMOs to come
2) Everquest – Set the bar for an expansive world and raiding content – my personal favorite MMO. Who can forget Corpse runs in places like LGuk or Plane of Fear, hoping you get there in time to loot your stuff
3) DAoC – First to bring real realm war via RvR – my personal second favorite. Biggest rush ws some of the first nights we went out in Emain and had three way battles where everyone was still noobs
4) SWG – great sandbox till they ruined it, loved the gathering aspect of it (especially mining)
5) CoH – great game

In my mind, all of these were at least as good or better than WoW (except Meridian, never played it so can’t speak for it). WoW built on the best of several of these, just like any other game does. GW2 has built a solid framework, they made WvWvW work better than WHOL

Ok I have tried WvW a number of times….I go in to
~ snipped for brevity ~
get map completion getting them to answer my questions.

So here’s how this works.

You’re clearly not a WvWer, so of course you’re not going to automatically know what to do. You’re used to going where you want when you want and that, coupled with your inexperience in WvW, is going to get you murdered.

Just like how in an above post you were told to lose the berserker gear and get some pvt (soldier’s) armor, there are real differences to WvW that you won’t be used to. Staying on a commander is a great idea if they’re doing a full circuit of a map – you’ll get the bulk of your POIs that way. But to get your skill points and vistas, you’re going to be left behind.

So? It’s okay if you die – it’s practically mandatory in WvW. But unless you’re on a map that your side is dominating, you’re unlikely to get full map completion in a single week. And hopefully you’re not stuck in a static tier where you are the same colour every week, or you’re going to have a bad time of it.

Go to your home borderland when it’s all/mostly your colour, and do the map. In fact, after you do it switch to any and all of your alts (doesn’t matter if they’re level 80 or not) and do it for them too. You’ll thank me for this later.

Then go to Eternal Battlegrounds and follow a commander. Ideally, you want the third of the map that’s closest to your spawn. If you can get more, fantastic. If not, then it’s easier to wait for the next matchup and hope that you’re a different colour, so that you start in a different corner.

Or, you could join a guild that has a reasonable population (WvW or otherwise) and see if there are a number of people that need/want/are willing to do some WvW map completion, and form your own strength-in-numbers group for it.

Good luck.

Since I’ve been in other threads stating how much I think they need to fix traits and add weapons and skills, I needed to jump into this one.

The “Dry Top” is very well done. I love the look and feel of the desert that you created ANET. It is awesome. Such a cool vibe with the rock spires, layered rock walls, sandstorms.

Anyway, just wanted to thank you for that. It is fun and I am enjoying it. Now put some of that labor and love into adding skills! :P

I like the sand drops. The way it was implemented, it feels more like a secondary gambling bonus that you get while playing normally, than the core reward system of this update (which it very clearly is not). I also think it’s one of the many tiny details that makes the patch more creative and immersive.

I don’t like core rewards that revolve around gambling, but when they are nothing but little, secondary extras, like this one clearly is, I find it to be very enjoyable.

No one knows when the next tournament is but probably October.

Going by the past tournaments you have to complete an x amount of y tournament related achievements to qualify for the reward, how much you’re rewarded depends what place your server ends up in at the end of the tournament. During the first one we got chest with our rewards in them, this last one gave up tickets that we could spend as we please.

The tournament vendors are still up, its a NPC standing in the middle of entrance of various Borderlands. You can tell who he is because all the other NPCs stand off to the side while he is just standing alone in the middle of nowhere.

So yes hi!
I bought the game about a week ago because I noticed it was on sale and I was looking about for something a bit different but familiar enough that I would not be all at sea wondering what I was meant to do. I kind of installed the game with the premise that expectations ought to be low and it would probably turn out to be the same old fetch me carry me but with a different bag.

On my first foray into Divinity’s Reach my reaction was …. well it would be against the T&C to write what I said because heck does it look good. I mean REALLY good. I have a decent puter with a funky GPU but still, most parts of the game (that I have seen) look amazing and some areas simply take my breath away. For an mmo it is amazing. I have played a good few mmo’s (that I understand it is against forum policy to mention) including a rather recent and hyped paid alpha and I can honestly say that this game holds its own against any of them graphically. Subjective I know but it has my vote.

Of course there is still fetch me carry me but strangely I don’t notice it and I really don’t care on the odd occasion that I do. The fact that for the most part I can choose what to do to fill up the progress bar is simply brilliant and on top of that to have something else like an event trigger on the side and have that impact the progress of what I was doing in a positive way is excellent. Before I know it I have achieved whatever it was I was supposed to whilst interacting with the world in a natural way. It is so simple and yet so innovative. I am hooked.

Forgive my enthusiasm, I know you all probably felt this way when you were new but I am so jaded by the same old tired mechanics that I simply was not expecting it to be so different. Of course there will be things that bug me …. I am not green enough to expect otherwise. I might get to a point where those things bug me more that the wonder and excitement I feel as a noob but for now I am going to enjoy it. I could kick myself for not trying it sooner.

Anyway I am happy to meet you all and to be here. I am a bit of a loner in game and tend not to group, not at all because I am antisocial but rather that I am really a terrible gamer. I have MS and do sometimes find things difficult but honestly I was just as sucky before I got sick so I can’t use that as an excuse. However I play to have fun and in my own funky, frustratingly inept way probably have just as much fun as the most uber elite among you and that is what gaming should be about imho. Still, if this were high school I would be the kid whose only responsibility was putting the gym mats and basketballs away. (But I do like the fact that I can just wander into a big boss fight, try my best and then toddle off again. How cool is that! ) Do say hi though if you see me in world.

Also I just previewed this post and realised what a wall of text there was. Sorry about that but did I mention I was excited?

What I find interesting is that there seems to be an expectation that ANet should pump out content much faster, but it sounds as if this expectations comes from an observation somewhere else.

Where would that be? WoW, which goes months between raid patches which are cut down in size to be a single small raid zone with a handful of bosses, and then a year until the next xpack? A year of nothing, ofc.
Wildstar? Which lacks content right out of the door?
Or are we looking outside of MMOs? Bioware pushing out content faster with DA2 certainly wasn’t well-received either, so there’s a negative precedent there. D3 went 2 years before it got more content, and it was only ~25% more, and the world isn’t large to begin with. PoE is still in it’s death throes so I doubt much will happen there.

No company releases lots of content fast.
For 2 weeks, Dry Top is quite good. Plus let’s be serious, adding new zones should be something done rarely, as it makes an already giant world even larger, each time they need to check whether Megaserver still fills each zone at least once over.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.
