I’m sorry to hear you don’t enjoy leveling alts and playing through PvE content as much as others do. It seems like you’re missing out. Hopefully there’s other content for you to enjoy, though! If not, there are surely other games or forms of entertainment you’d enjoy more.

That said, I think it’s great how you can craft to skip some levels. If you’ve already had your fill of leveling, you can still have level 80 alts to play with if you just want to craft for a while. Options!

I main Ele and Necro, though I have an alt of each profession at level 80.

I have 100% map completion on 2 characters, I like zone exploring. Your argument is invalid.

… there’s no reason to be re-exploring the open world on an alt since it’s no fun and zones are all dead.

This is where your entire post breaks down. The assumptions that every zone is dead and that no one could conceivably enjoy single player / small-scale multi player are wrong.

(Q:) Will we ever see anything like raiding?
(A:) Our answer to raiding may very well be in the works!

This is what I’ve always said !

give a.net the chance to come up with their own answer to raiding instead of asking them to implement wow style raiding which I totally dislike and doesn’t fit Guild Wars 2 play style.

My interest as to what they might come up with is definitely peaked

When you repeat it, it’s not new, and it’s something you have done before. So why do it? There has to be something in it for the player to keep them invested and interested. That’s what rewards are for. For retaining interest and playtime over a course of content being repeated.

Roleplaying, using different characters, helping out your fellow players, and just basic enjoyment? You make it sound like you’ll only play through something twice if you’re being bribed to do so. If that is the case, you should probably take a look at whether this game is for you, or indeed, if gaming is for you. I’ve beaten most of the Zelda series more times than I can count, yet I still go back through it despite it a) not changing and b) never giving me any kind of reward. It’s just fun.

When you use the roast beef skill, and follow it up with Au Jus utility you get the FRENCH DIP combo.

It’s way overpowered btw and total BS and Anet needs to balance it.

well.. i haven’t been playing for sometime.. after gw2 first release.. now my guild is empty, friend all gone… thinking about moving to another sever..

but don’t wanna afford the gem for it.. i heard if we delete all our toon we will get another chance to select home world. is this true?

if i delete all my toon will i lose my crafting level? how about the bank i unlock with gem?

Yes, it is true if you delete all your characters, you can do a free transfer. You will lose all your crafting levels because these are character bound, but you won’t lose any bank upgrade, because this is account bound.

Ah, I love these “If you liked GW1 you can’t like GW2!” arguments. I played Guild Wars 1 for years, bought every expansion, loved it. But there were a few things I thought could have been better … and GW2 fixed those. Did we lose a couple things I liked in the process? Yeah, sure. I miss hunting down my Elite skills and the huge variety offered in builds – but it isn’t game breaking by any means and the good they’ve brought to the table outweighs the bad by tons.

So, people who think they’re speaking for the whole community when they claim the long time GW fans are upset are simply wrong – they don’t speak for me at all. And seeing as I hated WoW and its copy cats, any suggestion that I’m a WoW-baby is ludicrous.

You wanna be upset? Be upset, but don’t claim you’re my duly appointed representative while you’re at it.

GW2 not having “endgame” content is one of the reasons I bought the game. I dislike (mostly) the step-ladder mentality of some MMO’s where you have to grind/repeat such-and-such dungeon to get into this dungeon, and the same with raid content.

Eventually the devs have to release content that mostly only satisfies the hardcore player, who is only content for a short time until they clear said content.

GW2 has room to experiment with content that doesn’t cater to that mold, and I’m looking forward to see if they can live up to that kind of promise. (Not a literal promise from Anet or anyone, btw, for those who take statements like this too literal.)

Stark and Arkham Creed hit the nail on the head. This game is perfect for people that don’t have a lot of time. The thing is a lot of people have done the raiding thing in the past and to me that IS NOT endgame. It’s just some stupid RNG gear grind that I could care less about. This game has the endgame I was looking for. FUN.

I would think that all the “Hard Core” would be thankful that all the “Casuals” are flocking to this game so they don’t taint the other games with their joy and carefree ways.

I agree with the OP though in that I have enjoyed my time here much more than in the many other games I’ve played all the way back to EQ. EQ was new and exciting back then but that wore off after about 2 years. I hope that doesn’t happen here.

Now if you truly enjoy the joke of “Endgame content” then hey kudos, a lot of us don’t (I realize some of you do.) However, I’m at mind to think that you may not actually know what endgame content is supposed to be, and that’s why you’re happy.. but hey if I’m wrong and you enjoy the half hearted attempts they give us, kudos.

The only end game content in ANY MMO has been endless raids hoping for RNG gear.

This game doesn’t have that, for which I’m thankful.

Go play one that does and quit kittening.

So you are saying that GW2 has no end game content? After all if your assertion that “The only end game content in ANY MMO has been endless raids hoping for RNG gear” is true, then “This game doesn’t have that” would indicate that GW2 has no end game content, for which you seem to be thankful?

Is that really so hard to understand? I came to Guild Wars to get away from that crap. I don’t like having to raid five nights a week just to keep my gear current. I don’t like having to pretend to like a bunch of elitist min/max jerks because their guild does runs 2% faster. I don’t like the idea of “falling behind” because I got a few more hours at work some week.

I’m a grown man with a real life; I don’t have time for endgame. And don’t want to waste what little leisure time I do have with repetitive, boring grind and having to deal with a bunch of children who think they’re better than me because they don’t have real lives and can afford to spend fifty hours a week raiding.

@War Siren:
It is my belief that the whole concept of “endgame content” is flawed, and furthermore that the design of GW2 is influenced by a desire to move away from this idea.

In my experience with other MMOs, endgame content is there to keep people playing once they have burned through the lower level content (or enough low-level content to reach max level). New raids, dungeons, gear, zones, etc. that are gated behind level (or gear) requirements that are popular for a while until the next round of endgame content is released.

I think that the devs are attempting to create game content that can be experienced at whatever level you happen to be. Yes, there are still areas of the game that are gated behind level requirements (zones and dungeons), but in general the philosophy seems to be to make content that can be enjoyed by as many people as possible.

The entire game is the end. I don’t know why you people are so jaded. I have a great time with my guild. I have my legendary. I don’t feel FORCED to come on every raid night for hours in hopes my RNG weapon drops. I’m relaxed and enjoy things. Maybe I want to WvW one night. Or PvP. Or chill and play mini games. Or do a daily chest run. Do a dungeon path I haven’t explored. Or even a random guild event like a costume brawl race. Spend two evenings doing guild missions. For you hardcore nuts, this game just isn’t for you.

That’s why I tell people it’s foolish to hate on ‘grinding’ or ‘farming’

It’s impossble to plan, design and implement content which is new so that everyday you encounter something new and different.

You pretty much have to introduce something new everyday which is just stupid.

I’m reading another thread about not enough end game content. Which has me thinking, we really are way too hard core in how we devour content. There’s no way any developer can keep up with us. In this, I’d like to apologize to all the Dev’s. You have to put up with a lot from us. Hope we’re rewarding you enough for it

Oh look. They’re doing this lottery for skins bullkitten again. It’s kinda like anet doesn’t listen to a kitten thing that anyone says at all.

Oh look, yet another one that didn’t actually read the preview-page.
It says quite clearly that the Dragon Coffers (that contain tickets for the skins) DO drop in the game-world.

Supply and demand. Players nerfed it by making supply higher than demand.

Interesting, I feel the exact opposite. A couple people gave me gem cards for my birthday a few months ago, and I’ve been sitting on several thousand gems since then because I can’t find anything in the gem store I want to spend them on (much less need to spend them on). I bought a couple bank tabs and another character slot a few months after release — because I wanted to give some financial support to ArenaNet — and they are still sitting empty. Oh, and I bought the Sport Sunglasses. Being a child of the ’80s, as soon as I read their description (“Can be worn at night.”) it was an instant sale.

I have yet to see any dirty tricks here. It’s all very open, honest and straight forward. I may not agree with their technique in every case: like the appearance items that are single-use or appearance items that can only be obtained through the gambling boxes. But the item descriptions state those limitations very clearly. Poor design choice? Yes. Dishonest or dirty trick? Definitely not.

If you wanted a dirty trick, ArenaNet could have very easily not included the collections tab in our bank and the ability to deposit collectibles from anywhere in the world. Then I would have completely agreed with you that we’re being pressured to buy more inventory and bank space. But it’s actually been quite the opposite – ArenaNet’s added spots for more items into the collections tab since release (loadstones, Halloween/Christmas materials, karka shells, passiflora, and many chef ingredients weren’t in there originally).

I’ve seen MMOs where not only do you HAVE to buy high-end gear from their cash shop, but you actually rent the gear for a limited time. You either have to spend more money every week or two to keep your gear, or it disappears. Or you can’t repair your gear through in-game means – you MUST buy a repair kit from the cash shop. Those are what I call dirty tricks. But there is no such shenanigans or tomfoolery here.
