I hate almost all dailies in MMOs. All they do is say “yes you are allowed to do whatever you want, but if you want to keep up with everyone else you have to do this” and then you gotta do a few boring tasks every day. Honestly, if GW2 devs still had the mindset of “in GW2 you can play the way you want” then dailies in their current form should not exist.
In my opinion situation with ascended gear is getting out of hand. Slowly, but surely GW2 forces you into the common MMO mindset/mentality where you supposed to have a main character, the one and only whom you will gear endlessly. I hate that. I don’t have a main, i don’t want to have a main, i come from GW1 where you had bunch of toons and played all of them with different builds and specs, and it was great. You can’t do that now, if you have this idea of making your toon as good as possible (the best you can) in what he/she does. Just look at how many new pink gadgets being introduced each update, there’re already 2 new currencies somewhat designed to hook you up onto this ascended gear treadmill system. It’s starting to feel like the whole game is being designed around this ascended horse kitten lately. Do the daily, save the laurel, do the fractals, get the kittening tokens, do the guild missions, get the commendations, each day, like it’s a work, where the hell this game is heading to? Is it some kind of a safe and lazy way to ensure the presence of so called end game content in the game? Of introducing new content to the game? Like next month you can introduce another bunch of pink kitten and a new currency for it and call it an update? Now, i’ve never even kittened about ascended gear before, but seriously, it’s time to stop guys, just let us play the great game you’ve made instead of making us farm gazillion kinds of currencies to get these pink kittening gadgets.
And what the kittens up with guild missions? Are they what community asked for? To have some content designed to play together with your friends and guildies? Only you’ll need to have gazillion of friends and guildies to even unlock this content and even then unlocking process will take like a week at least. Hey guys, we’re introducing some great new content into the game this month, but guess what, you can’t play it, at least not now, you have to farm influence and join some random huge guilds in order to get access to it, how about that kittenes? Who does that? It’s beyond good and evil for me, i don’t understand how anyone can make such a horrible game design decisions.
I’am sorry for being overly emotional and all, but i feel like it’s better to speak up now and see if i’am alone in this, or maybe significant part of GW community feels, more or less, the same way and then AN hopefully could pay some attention to these problems and keep them in mind while making future updates.
What would be the point in level cap raising? It’s not like level has much function in GW2 anyway, the only place it really matters is WvW (since all of PvE has downscaling and sPvP has upscaling). I would actually be in favor of removing level alltogether, so all mobs could just be balanced for one level and no effort needs to be put in scaling anymore. Now that would be a “revolutionary MMO” mechanic.
tl;dr I hope they don’t raise the cap
No, it shouldnt be implemented.
There is no real gear-gate on this game. Gear can improve your play but the only place that specific stats are really needed to complete content is in high lvl fractals.
Creating an inspect option would create a “virtual” gear-gate made by the elitists that already ask for a 80-only, war-only, zerk-only groups…
Saying that something bad is already going on doesnt mean it should be given tools to become worse.
I mostly run dungeons with my guild, as the groups are more fun, but I feel bad for the people that have to pug all the time on weekends for CoF runs.
I would just like to point out that those saying “make it optional” are missing a flaw in that argument. That is that it will quickly become mandatory to get in to teams for certain content. By that I mean anyone with “inspect” off would be kicked/ignored/blacklisted, or told to put it on or get kicked/ignored/blacklisted.
Personally Im more convinced by the “no” argument, having seen gear based selection in action and by the points raised here. This is a game, it is not a job, it is made for fun. There is very very little content in this game that even has a gear restriction, and even that (fractals) doesnt kick in till 10+.
Now if you are playing fractals 10+, and players dont know wtf to do that has nothing to do with the gear thats just a bad player. But if players know what they are doing, then whats the issue with what they are wearing? So what if they are wearing MF? It doesnt stop them from attacking/supporting the team. They might not be as effective, but it doesnt stop them being useful.
So really all inspect would do is create a bias towards an arbitrary number where there isnt a bias in the game by design.
If people can do dungeons naked then gear is certainly not as big a factor as elitists propose. To be honest I’m so disgusted by half the posts in this topic, the attitude that people think gear makes a dungeon go smoother is just…
I’ve seen newcomers and lower level people do far better in dungeons than most lvl 80’s full beserker speed run krew ‘oh I done this dungeon 10million times’ then die right away at first obstacle.
Kicking people for not being lvl 80 not having full exotics or full berserkers gear or not even the right profession is just…
Gear does NOT make a good player in the slightest. NO to gear checks because it supports a bad attitude. If you want to do your elitist speed runs be my guest but do not ask for implementation of a horrible system to force your ways even further making it impossible for those who don’t to enjoy the game as is already a problem in this community as it stands making experiences for newcomers to the game absolutely dreadful.
Anyway there’s a lot I would like to say as these kind of people really irritate me but I don’t think there would be anything constructive to come from it.

You don’t have the right to look at it without their knowledge.
That’s right! If I wanted people to know I’m leeching with full Magic Find, I’d tell them.
It’s a certifed backed and provided gear set by Anet themselves… they created it, made rules for it, and inserted it into the game.
The fact that you don’t like it and want to call people leeches for wearing it just shows that you want to force people to play the way you prefer.
Do I wear magic find in a group? Nope… but if you wanted a gear check to find out I would kick you.
If you wanna ask me for a ping and talk shop on builds and such… I’m down for that. But… I don’t like gear checkers, bad attitudes, know-it-alls and the like… “elitists” the dregs of the gaming population… there’s no guarantee they are any more skillful than the rest, but what they all have in common is the idea that they are better than you and you need to somehow convince them otherwise. I kick people for attitudes like that… and I like having the choice to do so by them not being able to gear check people without their permission. If they want to play together…. they can sit in a big ol’ circle and check each others gear till someone gets the cookie. Not my idea of a good time.

Why not just have a party option which have inspect gear and one without. That way people can choose to do whatever they want.
It became quite annoying to ask people to ping gear. And some of them take forever, either because they are slow or they just try to hide it and get in the group.
Or just have it, and by it existing it would be an option by default: Want it, use it, don’t want it, don’t use it.
There’s no legitimate reason to try and hide your gear/build.
By that same logic there would be no legitimate reason to have curtains in your home…
It’s my character… not yours. I don’t want you looking in my house… I don’t want you looking in my desk… I don’t want you snooping through my documents files… I don’t want you checking out my guild vault…. I don’t want you perusing my account vault… I don’t want you checking out my build… I don’t want you checking out my gear… I don’t want you perusing the list of my achievements…
If you want to know something about my account… you ask. And I choose whether I share that information or not.
Don’t need it….no need to feed the elitist brats. If perfection in gear or build is needed to succeed at anything, then the game is too hard and thus doomed to die.
The normal players will not feel good about themselves if too much failure and they will quit. There are no where near enough hardcore fanatics to keep any game running without the money of the casuals, thank God.
Ya, there’s that, too. I was reading over the gw2lfg page, & thinking, “Yup, I can do that, I have the necessary gear, have a guardian/warrior/mesmer to choose from, & I know the instance,” but after all the ‘no noob’ type comments, I also thought, as I so often did in WoW – WHY would I want to spend 8 seconds with these people? Not for anything! Then I shuddered, closed the page, & ran screaming away.
I also don’t really like the bounty hunt system.
I guess it could be fun (but also frustrating) if you did it like Zudet, but if you’re just looking for the rewards, it’s a boring and tedious (but at least successful) task. You just spread out (we had 18 people for our first T3 try, which was successful too…) look for the mobs, pop the quest and then you post waypoints…boring and unfun.
For me this is just the next carrot on the stick thing I didn’t really want in the game. Now I’ll have to take part in that boring tedious PVE thing at least once a week to get my shinies asap. I know I don’t need them. I know it, trust me. But somehow I feel the urge to do it nonetheless. And I dislike me for that urge…
I’ve rarely actively finished a daily before the laurel stuff. It either happened, or it didn’t. If some gathering was missing, I wouldn’t bother before, because there was no reward I particularly cared for. Now I feel the urge to hunt down that last ore or tree to finish it, when I actually just wanted to go offline, because I want shinies I don’t actually need. It’s sad isn’t it.

I gotta say, I never really saw huge issue with the dragon/chest events prior to update. A little bump in drop rates would have been more than a welcome change. But I gotta say, this is getting a bit ridiculous.
For 3 separate PVE Chest events that were to occur over the last 1.5 – 2 hours, I have been thrown into an Overflow map every time. I have not been released from overflow till each event was done. As I type this very message, I am sitting in an overflow, instead of hanging out in my home server, YB
If lag is something in question, then this is the best thing I can say about how it is affecting me (and I assume other players) is that we can play through the lag and still get some reward for our time… The way it currently stands, I get absolutely no reward from sitting in an Overflow. I would rather play through the lag…
This is an issue that is severely affecting the enjoyment I had playing the game, prior to the recent update. I use to not have a worry about enjoying my time as I was given the chances fro m the server; now it really bothers me that I am going to have to worry about whether or not I can even take part in the content I want to explore.
This is is an issue that should warrant heavy attention from the developers.

1.) How arrogant for you to tell me what made me stay on the server I choose..pfft.. They are a valid reason since I made my guild on the server I am on.
2.) Hell freezes over…..
3.) No, I do what I like.
4.)You obviously don’t pve.. I have never paid that much rapair.. Not even on my geared lvl 80.
5.)I don’t have sunrise nor any other legendary and if I did it wouldn’t be any of your business.. Learn to spell It’s Melandru.
6.)Who Cares.. People play what they like and you don’t have any right with your condescending attitude tell others what they need to do or how they should play their game.
7.) Those who like pvp will pvp but those of us who like pve will pve so get over it.
Let’s do some simple math.
3 million players, 51 servers, boss that drops fat loot in zone that holds less than 500 people…..Guesting is not the issue here.
It would be ridiculous to suggest that guesting isn’t, at the very least, making the problem worse than it would otherwise be.
I mean, if you want to be simple let’s be simple. People are complaining that they can’t participate in events on their home server without being pushed to overflow. Meanwhile, there are people at those events on said home server who are guests. Those are spots being taken up, which means more home residents getting pushed to overflow, which means more people on here complaining about it.
That’s pretty simple.
Ok go get some air and read this.
Guesting adds very few to the boss fight. The reason you are in overflow is because ALOT of people are there. If guesting was off you would still get in overflow because you waited till the boss was up to teleport in. People who wait get the loot. People who don’t often don’t. Yes Guesting takes a few spots away but if your not willing to wait for it your not worthy of the spot.
Some of you are acting like it’s difficult to see the problem in action. It’s not. When you’re at an event and some of your friends are stuck in overflow, and you put forth the question in chat “how many of you here are guesting to this server/event?” and more than half of the people present respond “me” … it’s pretty obvious where a lot of the potential slots for full-time residents are going.
This isn’t rocket science. Instead of speculating here on the forum, start investigating out there in the game.
No it’s not difficult to see the problem, though for some it clearly is. It is NOT guesting. Get over that. The issue is the loot you get from these events that makes people go from boss event to boss event for a few rares. Disabling guesting would not make the problem go away. It won’t even make it that much less. Your massive overexaggeration of half the people saying me does not make it true that there are that many people guesting.
People will spread around again once the loot from other sources is on par with these chests. Until then have fun in overflow caused by your own server’s population. Guesting is just a scapegoat being used by those that don’t see the bigger picture.
I’m usually the condition guy in my guild dungeon runs and I’m always one of the guys people ask to run with them. I don’t do more damage as a mesmer than a warrior in full berserker gear, but I have other uses.
Anyway, I’m often the one rezzing the warriors in full berserker gear. lol
How do you know it’s all guests?
Maybe, since the events are ACTUALLY worth doing now…more people on your server are doing them! GASP!
Also, hilarious to me that a month ago every other post was “OMG GAME IS DEAD NO ONE IS IN ANY ZONES”, and now it’s “OMG OVERFLOWS, LAG, WTF ANET”
Makes me happy on the inside.

Captain Tervelan: Of course you’re still alive. Should’ve known a few centaurs couldn’t kill the “Hero of Shaemoor.” They’re your specialty, after all, right?
<Character>: I know what happened to Falcon Company, Tervelan. How could you give them up to the centaurs? How could you betray their trust like that?
Captain Tervelan: I didn’t want to do it. My soldiers were starving, our equipment was ruined…I had to do something or the centaurs would have killed us all.
Captain Tervelan: So, yeah, I sold out Falcon Company so that some politician could say the queen was a bad ruler. But the rest of my command lived.
Captain Tervelan: I got funds to reequip my soldiers, munitions, decent rations, and a promotion. My command’s killed more centaurs than the rest of the Seraph combined—thanks to Falcon Company’s sacrifice.
<Character>: And all it cost was one company of your fellow soldiers. You’re not an officer, you’re a greedy, lowlife thug. And you’ll pay for what you’ve done.
Captain Tervelan: You and Bigsby… If you hadn’t dug so deep, you both could’ve done a lot to help us. All of us. But now you’ll just be ettin food. Bigsby may be already.
Captain Tervelan: This gate should hold you all in. I’m sorry it came to this. Good-bye, “Hero.” When you meet her, tell your sister I said hello.
I’m sure this is very goofy and not at all serious
