Meaningless Multiplayer
And this is the second and exceedingly jarring issue I have, how utterly meaningless and trivial multiplayer is in this game. Which as far as MMO’s goes I consider this to be a cardinal sin. If your multipler gameplay in a massively ‘multiplayer’ online game is poor, then you’ve kind of missed the bloody point haven’t you?

Which is exceedingly bazaar, since in many respects Anet actually did a wonderful job of making it easier then ever to actual play with people without silly little hurdles or contrivances getting in the way, which is fantastic. And yet when you actually do play together, nothing of note ever actually happens.

It’s like everyone is in a bubble roll-a-ball, you can see each other and occasionally bump into each other, but you can’t interact in any meaningful sense. You have no roles, you can’t rely on anyone to do anything specific, nor be relied upon.
You can’t effect anybody in any meaningful way.

Everyone is designed to only ever care about themselves and only themselves, screw everyone else around you. Even if you wanted to help others, you can’t. Not in any direct, or effective ways. At best you have entirely indirect, impersonally, and often trivial means.
The only direct help you can offer is rezzing their sorry backside. Which naturally takes no skill or effort whatsoever.

And what is maddening is that the game is so bloody close to actually pulling off a new and innovative way to have support/cooperative multiplayer interactions, in a way that could be tremendously fun. And yet it just doesn’t. It has everything it needs to work, the door is wide open, and yet it refuses to take the steps to go through.
It seems Anet are so scared of making mistakes that they instead opt to do nothing at all.

Overall I think multiplayer is a few steps forward, and a few steps to the side and off a cliff. You undermined the entire point of multiplayer, and that is bloody disgraceful.
I never thought you could screw it up this badly, but apparently I was mistaken in giving you entirely too much credit.

I’ve had a much more involved and enjoyable multiplayer experience in Dark Souls 2 kitten .

All I want is being able to fight her in a private instance in a map like the Nightmare Chambers.

I’d like to TRY and fight her, but despite my system being well over minimum requirements and having set both the game’s and videocard’s settings to the lowest, and while I have over 60FPS while right outside the arena, as soon as I enter the FPS goes back to close to nothing.

It doesn’t help how inconsistent the visions are. They don’t have something like an animation they do to hit like illusions, and the distance at which they will kill you is variable. Sometimes they hit me under melee range, sometimes over 600 units.

And to top it all, the fence around the area makes the camera face the floor and jump around every time I get slightly close to the border of the arena.

I don’t need people looking at me while I do it, I just want to ATTEMPT it while having at least an ice elemental’s chance in the Fissure of Woe to do it.

This needs a private instance in a low-res arena without lots of geometry all over the place, some fancy FPS-eating floor and camera-boggling borders.

You guys told us to hold unto our blade shards, so the average person is like ‘oh, must be something of value then.’

Then it turns out the vendor gives you … 1 green for 100 shards?

Just looking at how often the old ‘1 green 2 blues’ joke gets made, I think this must be a troll attempt on Anet’s part and there’s devs laughing at us right now.

Is anyone else getting slightly tired of GW2’s stance on. If they can actually gain loot, make sure you nerf it. So they cannot get loot.

I am not sure if they realize. But there are only three huge reasons anyone plays a video game:

Loot. (Fun for people who loves shinies, and gives them something to do.)
PvE/PvP. (Fun for the people who just want to kill everything. And be challenged.)
Story. (Fun for the people who love immersion and suspension of reality.)

Why do people PvE? For story, to kill things, and loot. Lots and lots of ungodly loot.

-
-

So why nerf Loot? If people play for loot?

Gold -> Gems conversion.

If you are going to nerf the game into oblivion just because people can exchange gold. Please just remove Gold -> Gems entirely. So we can play the game and have our loot.

Stop punishing us because it hurts your currency conversion. Just get rid of the conversion like D3 got rid of the Auction House. And then let us have our loot.

-
-

And if it does not hurt your currency conversion? Stop nerfing the loot, so we can actually have a reason to keep playing.

Ah, again with this horrid misinterpretation of their manifesto.

I don’t like that they took away almost every champion from QD, but I can see why they did it. There was a bunch of controversy and silly arguments whenever someone killed a champion early and whatnot.

Also, Frostgorge Sound’s train is still up and running, so everyone can still farm without any major problems.

Notice the change? it is “you”

LS Season 2 Confirmed to be Perm Content

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MithranArkanere.8957

MithranArkanere.8957

Permanent content or aka “older content” is usually a ghost town with most games, so why waste resources keeping things players usually don’t go back to?

No.

Making content players can’t go back to is the waste.

Audio recorded to play just for a short time. Models made to appear just just for a short time. Maps made to appear just just for a short time. Stories written to be lived just just for a short time. Items coded to be acquirable just for a short time…

THAT is the waste.

Making content players can go anytime after release is never a waste. New players, wiki editors, players who like to do everything with all of their characters, roleplayers, completionists looking to get full sets of rewards… those are just examples of players that may want to go back there and check things out. And why should the content be removed preventing them from doing so?

And “old content” becomes a ghost town not because of new stuff added, but because of new areas being higher level and having better rewards.
GW2 uses incomparable rewards and level scaling, so you always have reasons to go to many places, from regional drops to map completion.

Or would you rather get only massive zergs and everyone is stuck in the same spot doing the same thing? No. No. No.

Permanent is better.

I’m quite certain that ANet’s definition of permanant is vastly different than that of the player’s definition is.

This also goes for words and phrases like “expansion’s worth, soon, working as intended, exciting, new content” to name a few.

Sigh. I don’t suppose the naysayers will believe a word of it.

Still, the part about an expansion’s worth of content sitting ready to go is promising. =)

Remember the expansion’s worth of content we were supposed to get during January of 2013? Because I don’t remember getting it. Most of the non disillusioned are still waiting on it.

^ That’s actually a myth. Knights were fully capable of running, jumping and fighting on foot in full plate armor. Yes, they did need help to strap on their armor (the same way that ladies in modern dresses sometimes need help from a second party to zip up the back. There’s just some spots you can’t reach by yourself), but the idea that knights needed to be winched into their horses by a crane is untrue. If knights were that heavy, most horses would be too exhausted to carry their riders after 30 mins, tops, as well as putting them at serious risk of permanent injury whenever they went faster than a walk. Who would want to waste a horse every time they went into battle?

@OP: From a certain point of view, we ARE speed-boosted when out of combat. What if our in-combat speed is our DEFAULT speed?

You need to give us out-of-combat travel skills, for some very simple reasons.

1) Everyone equips a travel skill when leveling up, just to move faster while clearing areas. I am doing with my ranger now, I did with my elementalist, and so on. I wasted a skill slot on something passive, or even equipped a weapon I didn’t want just to move around faster. Essentially, you made the game less fun for me for making me have one less combat skill to use while leveling up because I wanted to get to point A to B faster, and switching skills all the time is annoying.

2) To balance/normalize travel speed between classes. It´s unfair a warrior can easily stack 1 minute of speed boost while other classes can’t.

3) Speed boost is a boost for combat. Outside of combat it is irrelevant, giving us an out-of-combat travel skill doesn’t conflict with anything.

If you don’t want to add actually cosmetic mounts, there is something already in the game you can use as the basis for travel speed skills: the Zephyr Sanctum people. They developed many skills solely about movement, and we could acquire a travel skill form them – to be used by a button or a specific slot – to move around the maps with haste without relying (or ruining) on our combat skills.

The problem of ‘hard’ content is that it’s not an objective thing. People thought TA Aetherpath was hard, then you got people breezing through it like AC P3. You say Tequatl is easy but looking at how most attempts end in colossal failure, I don’t know about that.

As the title says. It feels Anet is being too hush hush lately (ever since the beginning of the last two Living Stories). There are some rather bug issues with the game ever since the feature patch and some not related to it, but we haven’t had Any word if a fix is being worked on or not.

Some of the issues i’m talking about are:

  • Megaservers not working properly with large guilds.
  • Not being able to select a specific copy of the map so Guild World bosses could actually happen without a hitch
  • Guild missions being finished by a few members of the guild on one copy of the map while the rest of the guild is on another copy still doing the event and not getting credit for it.
  • GW2 needs actual hard, end-game content. Tequatl is not hard, Triple-head wurm is not hard. Dungeons are not hard. Orr has been nerfed so much that it’s a cake-walk now; shameful that the final areas of the game are as hard as the first ones. Anyone saying it is hard, is only kidding themselves. Period.
  • Arenanet needs to stop tailoring the Whole Game to casuals. Casuals already plenty for their casual needs. Casuals dont stick around for long Anet, hardcore players do.
  • Build templates need to happen. I don’t know why there hasn’t been any word on it so far. We can already change traits whenever we want to.
  • Ranger CDI (this is mostly for those who still main a ranger), any news on when we might see some of the changes? Maybe allow a preview of those changes for feedback? Even if only some?
  • Speaking of Ranger, reminds me of pet AI. I know it’s allot of work since the pet AI is embedded within the game’s AI. But maybe that would also fix two problems. Improving pet AI could also let you work on improving the predictable and lacking AI present in the game at the moment. (They dont even run from 20 massive AoE attacks!)
  • Commander tags, will they remain as they are? Useless trains in PVE and EOTM?
  • Edge of the Mists, will it ever become something else other than champ/karma/Exp train? A map that took so long to be developed with alot of cool features that became useless because this map doesn’t impact WvW like normal. I know this map was put in place in order to deal with the large Queues, but they still happen. Could we get ONE copy of that map on the WvW tab bellow EBG that does impact WvW score and be able to queue for it? You can still have it as an overflow for those who wish to the trains and stuff. It would also give another map for people to further spread out and lower queue times.

I know, i know, “China launch!”. I get it, but we’re not asking for fixes right this very moment. Just word on whether it’s being worked on or not!

This isn’t much of a rant, it’s more of series of concern i have with a game i’ve grown to love over this past year. I’ve been present since launch, but these ongoing moments of silence and keeping things under wraps has reached an alarming level Arenanet. We don’t know what to expect from the game, At All!

Cheers!

My point is that your point, is pointless.
