Ascended gear will be sellable on the trading post. Maybe cheaper than legendaries.

Incorrect.
Ascended gear will (as with current Ascended items) be account-bound on acquire and soul-bound on equip.

We all used expensive & bloody rare materials to make exotics, along with buying the recipes on tp or via karma.
We also had to often make more then one, just to try & get to 400 in crafting.

You didn’t make any exotics to try and get to 400 in crafting. You can only start making them at lvl400….

I just realized this reset ONLY benefits those who have already mastered the crafting classes in question. For new players, or old ones who simply haven’t got down to crafting yet, they can still use discoveries to make 400 easily, but after that, they wont have anything to get to 500… it would have been far more beneficial to simply add new recipes.

Uh … what the heck are you getting at? Everyone will have to be crafting exotics to get to 500. You get to 400 by crafting rares not exotics.

I’m with the OP on this one. The Molten Alliance event didn’t have a recipe to learn the insignia (unless I didn’t see it as a dropped item). So when the reset does hit, relearning to craft that item now becomes that much harder. Not cause of the mats, but the fact the insignia isn’t something that was learned via a recipe. I did get the one for making the unlimited Molten Berserker Tonic and that would have annoyed me if that was gone (which seems to not be the case).

When you already have a level 80 character, the exp reward for crafting is not much incentive.

The Sentinel’s items isn’t really an issue at a practical level. It is only an issue for people who wants to have a “complete list of everything even if I can’t craft it”. Nobody cares about the character exp but anyone who wants to get to 500 is going to care about the extra crafting exp from doing a discovery.

Nobody at Anet loves WvW like Grouch loved PvP. That’s what we need, a WvW Grouch, but taller.

You will probably want to craft when you hit 80 to get the max level gear, otherwise it will be a rare drop (ascended weapons, and armor later this year). Otherwise it is cheaper to get equipment from the auction house.

On the other hand though, you can level faster by crafting if you have the cash, and there are guides on http://gw2crafts.net/ that make leveling crafts a breeze, just don’t refresh the page as it updates to the cheapest possible, which may be different by the time you buy the mats.

So the new ascended crafting looks like its going to require more ecto than ever, c/dust has already started going up in price, ecto has went up a good bit too since that post on the site from anet,

Ecto jumped 7silver on that announcement about it being needed,
C/dust went up 8-9 silver each,

As its clear that ecto is a T6 mat, can we have it added to the champ boxes, its shocking that you have to salvage rares to get it, I salvaged 10 lvl 80 rares with a black lion salvage kit and got 4 ecto, its stupid numbers, it almost looks like that salvage glitch from way back,

And now you want us to salvage exotics, how do you really see that happening, most people cannot even get a pre cursor, and now you want them to salvage the exotics they where using in the forge, for a small chance that it might drop some mat that they need to craft ascended gear…..

Has this really been thought through properly?

I dread to think how badly the economy is going to get screwed up on Tuesday, and it might just recover in time to get hammered again for the ascended armor update, /sigh.

I’m going to lay out the game philosophy behind how we decided to do Tribulation Mode because I think it’s going to be misunderstood by a lot of folks.

First, here’s a playthrough of two games that are in the style we are doing.

Some people aren’t aware that this genre exists, and SAB TM may be their first exposure to it. We took a creative risk by going in this direction with it rather than the standard make-enemies-hit-harder-and-give-you-less-health approach that most games use to ramp up difficulty. That would have been very easy and very safe. (And probably more popular.) But we never do anything the easy or safe way.

The thing that makes this approach tricky is that on its surface, it seems to be bad design because it is intrinsically unfair. What fans of the genre understand is that there is a depth there that comes from a really interesting dynamic in the communication between the designer and the player that doesn’t exist in other games. It’s hard to articulate, but I would say it’s something like friendly pranking. There’s great pleasure to be had in finding ways to outwit a prankster. And that can’t happen unless you have a prankster. And that’s what the designer provides. People who don’t ‘get’ this kind of game see it like the designer is trolling out of cruelty, and so they read malicious intent into the invisible insta-kills. But that’s just not the case. It’s simply a specific kind of content made for a specific kind of player who wants in on the pranks. Yes, raging is part of the process. In fact, I rage at myself when I play TM all the time!

And the thing about how it is unfair: yes, it is. However there is a deep satisfaction to be had in overcoming in an unfair fight. In these games your only real power is tenacity. And besides, it’s only unfair in the short feedback loops. But the longer (and more substantive) feedback loop is a process of learning how the designer thinks. Discovering that style and finding how to navigate the level better as a result. The first lesson is this: the most obvious easy way will most likely kill you. The harder, more circuitous rout will probably be the way to go. This creates a joy of discovery and overcoming that few other genres can provide. But it is an acquired taste.

Another commonality among games in the genre (which I’m not aware of having a name yet… let me know if you’ve heard of one) is that lives are extremely cheap, and you blow through them. Lives are like HP in an RPG or ammo in an FPS. You go in EXPECTING to lose a LOT. If you interpret losing a life as “failure” then you will have a miserable time. It would be like feeling like you “fail” when you take damage in a turn based role playing game. Instead, if you see every death as another learning experience, you’ll have a much better time. Kind of like the way your armor rating increases when you take damage in Skyrim. So part of preparing for a TM run, you’ll be ‘leveling up’ your ‘life meter’ by collecting as many lives and Continue Coins as you can.

As has been pointed out by other posters: The recipes for inscriptions are not impacted by this, you have to rediscover the weapon and then get XP from it. Example:

I can currently craft a Berserker’s Pearl Reaver. After the build, I will still know how to make the Inscription (which is the recipe), but i will need to put one of the Berserker’s Orichalcum Imbued Inscriptions, one Orichalcum Axe Blade and one Small Ancient Haft into the Discovery window and make it to be able to craft the axe again.

For me Tuesday seems like a huge deal for the game.

Everything they’ve posted seems like it’s likely to be the end of the world. But I had such low expectations of the achievement chests and they completely blew me away, so I’m oddly hopeful that thinks may not be as bad as I think they are going to be.

It makes me wish we could get a real preview.

Anything I post is just the opinion of a very vocal minority of 1.

So.. this has been discussed sooo many times! I think most people that OWN a legendary want it to be account bound and not soulbound.

I spent over 1k gold and 7 months on mine. But now… I can only use it on my necro and not thief. This limits my opportunities. I do realize i dont need my legendary, but i like it and i want to use it.

This is like you spent 7 months IRL working your kitten of to get alot of money, but everything you could spend the money on is clothes. Nothing else. Its stupid. Why limit the reward of hard work to one thing only?

Would it hurt if they became account bound? And now with the legendary rework, will they become account bound? Any Anet mod guy that can update me…?
