That’s pretty much what it boils down to. Rangers and warriors are probably the two classes that attract the most casual players. Players that probably won’t be able to, or don’t care about trying to find a build that works.

Same goes for the weapons. Many people have found builds that work with bows.

Don’t believe anyone who says ranger = bad, broken, low dps, whatever…

Figure it out for yourself and you’ll be happy.

Ontopic; I can now see how you might provide a specific purpose with said build in a team-composition that builds arounds it to great effect. It’s like the GS/Mace build but with more focus on opening up pesky necros like a can-opener of sorts, nice. If you run with a lot of stability, you can also secure the Dunk on that 1 target.

I think my problem is you kept saying you were providing constructive feedback, but all you were doing from my perspective is detailing how we are worse than another class. You weren’t explicitly saying how to fix something or what a player should do differently to fill that gap.

detailing the weakness is already a step closer to the fix.

While true, think of it from a real world perspective.

If someone is building a chair wrong, you don’t walk up to them and say ‘your chair sucks’. You point out where it’s wrong and how to fix it.

Likewise if you go to a mechanic and your tire pressure light is on, they don’t come out and say ‘your tire is broken’. They inform you it has a puncture and ways to remedy it.

The point of constructive feedback is to provide actual feedback. Throwing in your 2c’s just to get it in there AND not helping to fix the issue is the problem at hand in these forums.

Otherwise we would be flooded with spam X is OP Y sucks and ‘Z is such bullkitten’.

I can see the argument on both sides of this disagreement. On one side, Defektive has come up with a completely viable build, assuming your playing with a team who is competent, on the other, you have the remaining 95% of the sPVP-tPVP community who plays the Warrior in a not so intellectual enviorment, hotjoins-soloque etc., who see the weaknesses of the Warrior class full front, with it’s lack of sustain etc.

Overall I like what Defektive has done for the Warrior, you can’t blame him for trying to help out the community by posting viable builds and showing you what they can do in a high level setting. His statement was best. If you don’t like stun builds, don’t play stun builds, it really is that simple.

No, you are not seing anything, the other side of the argument is that the team needs to build themselves and make strategies around having the warrior in the team, wich most teams are not going to do because they can just invite another class better.

Actually, I am seeing that, I just said that, whether you think another class is better at a certain task is your opinion, it is not fact.

I am appreciative of that to an extent.

What I don’t like however is how people are being hard headed when it comes to a particular build or playstyle.

If someone doesn’t like stun builds, then simply don’t play a stun build. Play Longbow, or GS, or hell even Axe.

A lot of people are comming in here and commentating on how ‘gimmicky’ a stun build is for tPvP. Well let me say this, have you played against top tier teams? Because if you havn’t noticed a lot of them them run cheesy comps. We’re talking double spirit ranger, double necro. Or triple Spirit Ranger, or Necro Necro Engi. If we have a playstyle that hard counters this cheesy meta then I would hope people take advantage of it for the first time instead of kittening and moaning that it’s not their preferred build.

Whats with warriors being obsessed with Burst damage? Thats why there are so many bad ones in pvp/wvw. Thief s/d doesnt have anywhere near the burst damage d/d has but s/d owns people. Ive played along side some good hammer/mace and hammer/? warriors before and became a believer. I usually play Thief Mes or Ranger and ill say that Warriors these days are a lot more trouble than they used to be. I actually used to run past them and not bother, but I dunno they def arent bad at all. Not too long ago Rangers were considered the worst class and everyone laughed at them…

Ele’s water attunement line has healing built into it, so does the dagger ‘2’ for necromancer.

These are what he meant, please don’t take this out of line.

Other classes have things like: Protection/Retaliation/Regeneration/Healing/Sustain built right into there basic weapon sets/attacks while we do not, that is the difference.

Depends on your weapons. S/F for Ele has no healing outside of the pitiful Water Trident. D/F has no healing. Staff heals are on such a long CD you’ll get them off once per engagement, and only get benefit if you can somehow stand in them for extended periods of time. The Necro dagger 2 doesn’t heal very much at all and is a long channel. However, the Warrior warhorn has AoE vigor and weakness, as well as condition removal on very friendly CDs. At an absolute BASELINE (0/0/0/0/0) level, as his post mentioned, the Warrior warhorn would outperfom either of those.

I never disputed that other classes have access to methods that are easier to enhance with traits, as well as being better enhanced by traits. But that laundry list of “baseline sustain” other classes have was simply incorrect.

I main Necro in everything I do. Lately I started seeing more of the stun build that absolutely destroys our class. I was waiting for some good counters to come up, but never expected this. Our little access to Stability means we just get tossed around by this build. I know the warriors made this for us, because they always focus me down first in any team fight.

Nice job though. I won’t look at you as free kills anymore. XD

happend to me accidently today few seconds before I went into downed state (chased by train or zerg how you like to call it) I used DS nb 2 skill on mob far away who was a bit infront of my partymember a second after i got downed I was teleported to mob and party member was could rez me I just figured I would share so you would know its possible.

I’m sorry, I’m just still trying to rap my head around how anyone could even begin to think this. Spirits are still our most broken utility next to shouts. We finally get a teeny tiny bit of group support, and then we get called out as OP again. It’s just…wow. Just wow.

Actually, spirits -are- really strong now, you throw some regen on those things and it takes a good deal to take them down, and their actives aren’t useless anymore, that being said they’re far from OP.

I’d say their decent 1v1 and strong in group fights (ok, they -may- be OP when paired with a minion master but that’s a 2 man comp not a single build). I think people just need to put on their big boy pants and accept the fact they suck and need to get better.

That or the ranger community needs to stop leaping onto the bandwagon and start being more creative so our good builds aren’t tuned into being so good xD.

I use the Axe on a crit build and I find the auto attack to be fantastic for multiple targets with high damage. While I wouldn’t be apposed to having a bleed on the axe I don’t find it necessary since the sb offers a sustainable bleed.

Guard: Virtue of Resolve, Protection/Regen utilities
Ele: Water attune regen. Some water weapon skills and water fields. Protection utilities.
Necro: Deathshroud/Lifesteal
Thief/Mesmer: Sustain is more complicated here, but essentially comes from evasion via clones/stealth, blinds, dazes, stuns, etc. Far more difficult to quantify, but no less effective in practice.
Engy: F1, Protection/Regen utilities.

Ele has to trait for water attune regen and Necro has to trait for lifesteal. Those aren’t baseline abilities. And to pull out weapon skills is unfair, considering that at 0/0/0/0/0, the Vigor and AoE weakness of call to arms will probably provide more damage mitigation than an Ele’s geyser or cleansing wave, or a Necro’s Life Siphon would heal.

While it’s undoubtedly true that other classes have an easier time speccing for superior sustain, you can’t overstate these “baseline” abilities.

I often wonder if the fault is with the player and not the class, from what I’ve seen from good warriors they’ve walked around the god almighty path of sustain and managed to be quite successful with out it.

I just don’t get how so many can turn what we have into something productive whilst a bunch of us sit down and scream one word at the computer screen hoping it will fix it. “SUSSSSSSSTAAAAAAAINNNNNNNNN” They weep as they get pounded on and killed knowing little that if they had that god almighty sustain they’d just die 10 seconds later.
