It’s pretty devastating to get stuff re-introduced, though. I’ve been waiting on selling tormented weapon skins since they were released on the premise that over a long period of time they would increase in value, like the fused ones. I took my hard-earned gold and dumped it into some rather cool looking weapon skins that I guessed would rise in price in time.

And they just about started to, but their re-introduction as being available for 1 scrap decimated the value I was about to redeem after spending god knows how long waiting.

Exclusive skins are tough markets because making them recur removes their value/exclusivity and general uniqueness. I think some of the whacky expensive skins like the greatsaw are hilarious and justify their prices and exclusivity, and let’s be honest, when was the last time you saw a Twilight and got all dreary-eyed like you did the first time you saw it near release of the game? That whole “awesome” factor kind of diminishes when they become more or less commodities, and it being very difficult to obtain is what’s going to keep it in that position.

That said, I’m all for equal opportunity at event/old items. Sucks when the skin that would look awesome for a character concept is locked behind a huge paywall or inaccessible challenge from an event that happened years ago.

Tough debate.

Why do you want so much gold? Is it to buy skins that are no longer available and resell them for more gold? Buying things with in game currency seems counterintuitive to playing a fantasy roleplaying game. How about being able to play and earn the items that were a part of the game as an alternative to the false economy game people play.

I’m not saying this for black lion weapon skins. Those are not something earned in game. Those are just a way for anet to keep the lights on. Let them put them back on sale every now and then and let them make some money. I don’t feel bad for people loosing out on fake money so anet can earn real money.

Exclusive items should stay exclusive.

Why do you value something you have because you happen upon it at the right time? I value things I earn. Let newbies earn rewards the same as we did. They may even have to work harder than you because you could Zerg farm for a couple weeks. If we reintroduce reworked content with old rewards we can enjoy new hard content we all have been starving for as well.

Don't waste the best idea you've had anet.

The idea is that they earned this item as well. Selling the items on the gem store will definitely annoy people but what if they have to do challengeing content? They may be upset that veterans could just Zerg farm the old rewards where they actually had to team up with friend and work for it.

Stop worrying about what everyone else has and just enjoy getting something else for yourself.

Hopefully HoT brings in some new blood and let’s not waste all the cool things we have to offer on just memories for vets. Imagine how nice it would be to o through the wardrobe and say, “whoa, that’s cool I’m going to go out and get that!” Rather than learning that you can’t have half the unique stuff because it was around 3 years ago. Where’s the fun in that?

The more pve content the better and we already have a highlight reel for 3 years.

I hate Pristine Fractal relics tbh. One fractal relic has a currency while the other takes up item space.

not as of tomorrow. they are both going to be in the wallet.

I thought it would be a way to stop the elitest vets from complaining the newbies weren’t around and didn’t earn some load annoying chainsaw skin like they did. I’m perfectly fine with keeping laurels for living season rewards. I’m glad I now have the support from the wvw community! OK let’s keep it going!

Pvp fractal reward track! Earn a number of pristines and a level 40 daily chest at the end of the track.

I’m on a roll!

Slow that roll, chief. I think tier 40 chest might be a little too far. Would a pvp track that rewards fractal relics diminish the value of the content that they come from? Yes.
I do think there is a line in exclusivity. Fractal Relics should stay where they are, preventing the devaluation of things like Fractal Skins. They’re rare and shiny cause they belong to the Fractal Community. The Hero skins, belong to us saviors of the realm.
If you’re after a certain something, I think half the fun is the journey. Watching a guy who has done nothing but WvW for 2 years and is now a complete boss at it cry about harpies shooting him off a cliff is OP. I love it.

You’ve been right all along swanky!!! Keep pve rewards exclusive to amazing pve feats. Earn living season rewards just from high end pve content like fractals! Rescrap the laurels!

HAHAHA I kid I kid.

Bu you can see how rewarding old content for new players by challenging them the same way we were challenged is good for everyone. All of guildwars should be fun and rewarding for everyone regardless of /age. Let’s leave that archaic thinking to the dinosaur MMO’S of the past.

Counterpoint: You may not need them, but not everyone does fractals. How would a WvW player get fused gauntlets if not for laurels? I think that using fractals as a medium to allow replays (flashbacks, if you will) into old events that shaped the world of Tyria is a cool idea, the ancient karka, marionette, etc., But using fractals to replace a currency that’s already established for certain items would cause a not-so-quiet stir if recent events are any indicator.

I believe that fractals have the the best most open ended design in guild wars 2. I think they should continue to expand and improve this cool idea while also giving the players, new and old, what they want.

The idea is take past content and group fights from the living story, tweek them for instanced challanges with various recomended group sizes. Old vets like myself get the joy of challanging group content, new players get to experience things they missed like the marionette or past halloween content… everyone wins. You wouldn’t even have to build new dungeons big boss fights that were in the game.

I think fractals are perfect for this because the lore behind the fractals. There are any number of cool reasons that could be used to go back through these large events that affected the world.

Here’s the kicker… throw laurel living story items out the window. We don’t need them. Make pristine fractal relics the currency for this. I like the idea of new players getting a chance at these cool things we have from playing from the beginning. I think that’s a cool pitch to new players; you can still earn past rewards or material drops by taking on challenging group content. Some vets will gripe about this but honestly I wouldn’t care, it’s not like they are just getting laurels for logging in and getting something cool, new players are earning the items basically the same way you did. By fighting it out in the biggest fights we’ve had. If you sincerely have an issue with this than ask yourself, why do feel so strongly against other people having fun and rewarding themselves through playing.

I understand this is a lot of work for anet but I thing the big group content is being neglected and could really make this game shine. There has been so much good content that we could never see again. I hear a lot of people out there on other forums saying not to switch to gw2 for this reason. There are a lot of new players interested in instanced content and I think if this was there with some decent rewards some new money could roll in for you.

Yeah this happens a lot in guild wars. I fully expected someone to get information from some who works for a net and try to screw everyone else over. Lucky for me I have the recipes already and 6 watchwork mechanisms.

I went to make a full set of Keeper’s gear and didn’t realize the recipe wasn’t in the ascended recipes you buy from laurel merchants. Made a set of zerker instead and was left holding the bag.

PvX
– I think they will do a lot more with infusions. Players sitting on a little wealth want to spend more for that little extra. Right now, if you aren’t an avid fractal runner and +5 isn’t worth 100-200g, infusions offer very little.

Personally, I’m holding off on getting top tier infusions until I see what comes out. I don’t want to spend 2k gold on +5s when +6 is probably right around the corner.

I am thinking about the same thing… but does +6 make that much of a difference.

I haven’t played many MMO’s or games with an “economy” but I wonder what would happen if you actually had items that deteriated with use. Maybe if you had to fix things with mats like fix heavy armor with metal. I wonder if the market would be stronger for crafted items.

If staff can be melee, spear can be land.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: A OK.8276

A OK.8276

from a pure technical viewpoint making a melee staff, is just the same as making it ranged, no more difficult, or difference there, making a spear a land weapon would be to essentially have to reconfigure it pretty much from the bottom to allow it to be placed in a slot used elsewhere, not even certain they have the capability in the engine to even allow a weapon to be both above and below water.

So yeah 2 VERY different things (we do already have ranged greatswords and soon hammers as well)

This could be a difficulty, but there are plenty of pets that are usable on both land and underwater – the process should be pretty similar.

Except pets and weapons have absolutely NOTHING in common, cant exactly copy code from amphibious pets over to water weapons, and make some minor adjustments and its done…, would be the easier way probably to make the code from scratch for the weapons int aht case, and then we back to the start.

And as someone else mentioned the general animations for underwater weapons are built around a water theme (something with fish swimming around some of them if i remember correct) how would those look on land? xD

  • The fact that you have not committed to a release date for HoT and still hype it up while it’s in early beta shows that you guys do not have the confidence to set a date, do not have enough staff to have that confidence, and will probably release the expansion “unfinished,” which might be a subjective word to you, but, again, FFXIV Heavensward will be a “finished” product. They’ve already gone into detail about what you’ll be getting, a lot more than your cute little “we’re nowhere done yet, even though it’s been 3 years to work on an expansion, but here’s where we think we are and where we think we’re going.”

You/we are not the target audience anymore, new players is where the money is, and in 2 years new players today will be saying the same thing, as you/we are today.

Sadly for us long term players its either suck it up or move on. (luckily for me there are some great games out for the PC over the last few weeks and coming months, so moving on wont be an issue)

There are 2 groups of players in this game, those who love the game and only play a few hours a day/week, and those who play a lot and are bored.

What other games are you going to try. I’ve tried a few the last while and just could not get into them. I agree with GW2 being only for new players.

I think HoT will give us some new content but I doubt there will ever be enough high level content updates to keep vets interested in this format but that’s only natural.

Who ever looked at the new style of Charr and decided it was better than the one you already had in your universe was just plain wrong.

I think the big issue was the noises the characters made… I am deaf and I barely noticed. I did turn the sepia off though because i got tired of it but other than that i played the game as usual; even had a few laughs at my Asura dancing. I think all in all it was a good April’s fools joke. Not everyone likes April’s fools jokes and you don’t have to, but try to keep that in mind the next time you hear someone doesn’t like you.

If everyone is so concerned about sensitivity over the Germanwings flight did you know that the airline company just kept on flying planes that day, kept selling tickets kept taking off, even though they didn’t know what happened to that plane. I think that is much more insensitive than a company in a completely different industry poking fun at a bug they had in beta testing.

PS. I also think a emote where you walk in circles making noise would be very funny to have.

They would have to include the gear like sentinels and zealot’s though; at least give us some option to get a stat like zealot’s with ought coughing up gold to market manipulators.

False… The early teirs of legendary mastery let you train in making the first set of precursors. If you don’t have it yet DO NOT OVER PAY FOR IT. You can craft a single account bound precursor for each legendary once after HOT drops.

I’m sure there will be addition of various prices where you can have a mini something and an exclusive glider skin… Oh and a title!

I personally feel there is nothing wrong with this. Get some early return on investment while testing system. nothing wrong with this system. I don’t like when you pay to beta and don’t get access when the release drops… I don’t know why people go for that. Everyone has their reasons I suppose.

To be fair early access and closed beta isn’t the same thing.
It is very possible that pre-orders will get access to potential beta event weekend as with the original release, but even then they did have closed betas that were not accessed by pre-ordering.

ArenaNet does real closed betas, not marketing event “closed betas”.

A OK.8276

errr.. how about we tackle another issue why silk is always low supply?

Farming on 2/3 light armour classes are pretty terrible. Anet update that made drops more relevant for classes only decreases the overall supply

I don’t really pay attention to the prices of things anymore now that the npe killed alternate characters for me but I couldn’t believe how expensive it is now. I take back my working as intended quip earlier. I have a stack of silk bolts, scraps, and 36 damask waiting for to be used on ascended gear if I ever settle on a build for one of my light armor classes. I’m going to have to pay attention to this and see if anything ever gets fixed because that’s a lot of gold I’m sitting on and didn’t even know it.

I feel like silk was easier to get after the sw map opened. I salvage everything except rare weapons. I crafted t 100 bolts of silk in 2 or 3 log ins. Is that slow or fast compared to others?
