Well all builds are “viable” because dungeons pose no challenge whatsoever. There is practically no possibility for failure so yes, it really doesn’t matter what build you run. Hell, people can solo many dungeon paths and bosses so you can even afk if you want.

But that’s not a solid basis for discussion. Yes, everything is viable because there is no real challenge and yet the benefits of going all out DPS far outweigh the benefits of any other build. That’s the issue.

I’m still failing to see the issue. The OP complained about a lack of build diversity. In general. He didn’t state a lack of optimal build diversity. Just build diversity. If all the builds are viable then surely there is not a lack of build diversity? Now whether all those viable builds are optimal or not is an entirely different matter (hint they’re not).

Theres no build diversity in PVE. Im not saying in the entire game, thats true obviously. Look at something like sPvP which does have an annoying condi meta right now but is certainly more diverse than the toxicity in dungeon community. One reason there is only zerker is because there is no strategy to the bosses in dungeons, at least nothing too complicated. The strategy used to kill most bosses in dungeons is so simple that it doesn’t really warrant multiple strategies to be used. Its usually just “okay lets do the strategy where we do as much dps as we can because this boss doesn’t do anything or we can completely avoid its abilities by putting it in a corner”

I think we have a difference of opinion on what build diversity is. For me it means how many viable options there are. For you it seems to mean how many optimal options there are. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Yeah that’s just wrong. Any build is viable in a dungeon. Not every build is optimal. Big difference. If you want to run the dungeon as fast as possible and be optimal then use meta builds. If, like me, you really don’t care then run whatever build you like. You’ll still get through the dungeon it’ll just take you a bit longer.

A) So don’t play one of those classes. Pick one you enjoy and off you go. BTW most actual meta groups prefer to take at least one (if not two) Elementalists. Don’t believe me, then ask in the Dungeon forum.
B) Don’t join those groups then. Find a more chilled one. Or better yet start your own group. Also remember to start the instance.
C) What issue? People get kicked it happens. Ignore the muppets that do and find a cool group.
D) Fail to see an issue here. Making a legendary also requires a lot of other stuff.

I also run dungeons as a Ranger. Sword or Greatsword would be a weapon I’d advise you use. See which you prefer. I prefer sword but it can really take some getting used to. Traits you’ll want Spotter and Vigorous Spirits as a minimum. Also Frost Spirit is a good utility to take.

Change your pet to passive/aggressive when needed. If you’re skipping mobs then set it to passive. Against a boss then aggressive. You get the idea. Also remember to use your F2 ability.

Pet wise Cat’s (Jungle Stalker’s), Moa’s and Drakes are good. I prefer Drakes for the blast and cleave abilities.

1) If you want to speed run a dungeon then use meta builds (this not only includes zerker gear but also traits and skill rotation). If not then please do not join those groups. It’s really not difficult.
I do not run any meta builds. I run dungeons regularly using the LFG tool. “Story any welcome”, “P3 any welcome”. My groups fill up with in 5 minutes max. Yes they take longer than a speed run but I have the time and I really don’t care. Simply put. Make your own LFG.

2) Either find a guild or just wait a little longer on the LFG. They will fill up with people wanting to do the path because they’ve not done it before or not done it in a while.

3) There’s nothing wrong with path sellers as long as they’re neither exploiting the path or using a full party and kicking people just before the boss.

Did you do Foresaken Halls/Foresaken Fortune? That’s something I enjoy doing when I’m in Dredgehaunt cliffs and will get you some experience.

I know you said you’re gathering but are you also crafting and keeping it level appropriate or just behind? The reason I ask is because I’d do a zone gathering materials. Go back and craft a load of stuff and it would bump up my levels so I could go into the next area. Also are you using consumables and boosters? These will be a big help as well.

See if you try to teleport from outside a map into a map they show as contested but once you’re ported into the map they show as all freed up because people are actually there doing them.

I dunno the answer to this. Never had that problem. The only time I get grumpy in dungeon runs is when people don’t read my LFG. It says Asuran only. Is that so hard people? Oh and when they don’t listen. “In here we’re gonna do x and y. Wait a minute. Why are you over there doing z? Get back here! You muppet.”

OMG they’re totally different! This is a GAME! School helps you get on life and do stuff. When I’ve finished doing that stuff I come home and want to relax. To relax I play a game!
I don’t need to be stressed in the game by having to run certain gear or traits. I like running my cleric gear but I also don’t have much time so people should carry me through their speed runs. But they DON’T! I mean what’s up with that?!?!

I was so annoyed on how much damage I was taking, I mean I was getting hit once and died, I left after I died 5 or more times. I was new to it and the players were not waiting for me at all. And did not even offer any tips,there were not talking at all to say the least…

3 ways to deal with this. Look up a guide online, tell people you’re new when you start the dungeon or join a mentor run. The mentor thread is stickied at the top of this sub-forum.

Then I join the level 35 dungeon to come find my self with all level 80’s, and to see them using a stair way and a pillar to hide and kill the spider boss. It annoyed me a ton to have seen that, but I learned fast why they were hiding, and it’s because the spider hits like a truck.

They’re not hiding, they’re stacking. There’s a simple reason for this on this boss. Her poison AoE is evil but it only activates when her target is out of melee range. Stacking there allows you to always be in melee range and removes the annoyance of the gargoyle heads in the room. You can get the same results in the room she spawns by just all going close and meleeing, but then you have to watch out for the gargoyle heads or just kill them but it takes a lot longer.

Also as a side note while you’re stacking in that corner you can still dodge. Highly advisable you do. You can see her rear back to attack, so learn that tell and dodge. Bam no damage.

Then the last boss a big lizard, to also have to hide in a corner so we can kill it. Even my wife was confused on why this dungeon is so hard that even level 80’s skip 95% of the dungeon, and then use what is clearly a cheat to kill a boss.

From all the dungeons that I ran in WoW, if they get titled level 15 dungeon, it means level 15’s can run it. If it said level 35 dungeon it meant that level 35’s could run it with no need of higher levels coming to help. The difference was on if the characters where geared ok and if they knew what they were doing with there skills. Because if you were not geared good and had only low level gear, but knew what the fights were like and how to use your character, the dungeon will get done no matter what.

Level 35’s can run it with no help from higher levels. I regularly do low level runs when I’m levelling a character. As soon as I get to 30 I’m in story mode. 35 I’m in explorable mode. 40 and I’m in the story of Caudecus’ Manor etc.

Are you thinking of speed running dungeons? If so then yes there are better professions than Necro. If you’re not thinking about speed running dungeons then Necro’s are just fine. Just don’t fear stuff away from people trying to melee things. It’s annoying as hell.

I take my Necro into PvP. It’s ok. Although this could be more down to player error than anything. Necro does have a good place in WvW.

If you like Necro then play Necro.

When you choose to go to PvP there is a chest icon on the left hand side of the window. Select this and you choose which reward track (there are 40 rewards per track) you will earn points toward (it can be any of the ones unlocked). As you play matches you earn points to gradually unlock them. Evidently you’ll earn more points for a win but you also earn them for a loss.

I’ve done both hotjoin (find a server and join the game) and solo arena and they both work fine but I believe there is a limit per day to how much of the reward track you can earn from just playing hotjoin.

I’d say it’s because your characters are different levels.

Experience gained is modified by the difference in the content level and your character level. This modifier begins with a base of 50% and scales linearly as the difficulty decreases. For example, a level 50 character completing a level 25 event will receive 52500 * .07 * .75 = 2757 XP. This does mean a high level character will receive more experience for the same content as a low-level character, but the percentage of a level gained is higher for the lower level character. For example, a level 25 character completing the same event will receive 14100 * .07 = 987 XP. While this is almost one third that of the level 50 character, it is 7% towards the next level compared to the 5.25% the level 50 receives.

I don’t play LoL so I don’t know if it’s always that slow but I’d be hoping for slightly faster speeds and my internet sucks….

That’s the reason I’d guess a ton of you keep saying that literally everybody hates it (on EU). When I ask around, responses are moderately positive (I am in NA).

I’m selling all my items that I get from drops, that should be the items for crafting so I don’t know what to do, because I think that those items don’t really level me up in crafting, its very low amount of them.
And all the players here told me to not useing bows, only greatswords/swords/axes/horns, so I will go on Weaponsmith.

If you want to craft then stop selling everything. Salvage any weapons or armor that you get from drops and can’t use and you’ll have enough materials to craft for a few levels.

Yes do Dungeons when you can.

For a Ranger crafting would be either Huntsman or Weaponsmith depending on what weapons you’re using and Leatherworker for armor.

Crafting is easy to level up. Each recipe tells you what you need to make the basic components (inscriptions and weapon parts) then you combine these in the discovery tab (there are 4 tabs when you open a crafting window. Discovery is the top one)

I just thought that the game is basic “starting” from level 80, like WOW, you level your character to level 90 and than play PvE/PvP for better gear and stuff, the leveling is not the main thing, I think its the same in GW2, you level to 80 and than the WvW is the main thing, than you train and play for better gear.
How much time it takes to level up to 80? If I’m exploring maps all the way? I think its will be boring just explore maps and do the same heart missions all the time no?

WvW doesn’t have to be your main thing. I had 8 level 80’s and had been playing for over a year before I even thought about stepping into WvW. Gotta say it is awesome and would highly recommend it but still I was having fun doing other things. Running dungeons, killing world bosses, exploring the map etc.

With regards to this part I think I got to level 80 around Straits of Devastation (Level 70-75 area). Also don’t just do the Hearts. There are POI’s, Vista’s and Skill points to be acquired in each map.

When you start a heart it gives you the information about it in the top right hand corner of your screen. I’m guessing what GuzziHero means is do the POI’s, hearts and vistas (don’t do the skill point!) inside Ebonhawke city then go back to Queensdale and finish stuff there.

- Frostgorge Sound Champ Train
- Dungeon running
- Farming ancient wood and orichalcum and selling it all.

You can get blade shards from the sprocket generator in your home instance if you have it. If not you can get some for completing the Not so Secret Jumping Puzzle. As soon as you have one you can make more in the mystic forge. Here’s the recipe -

Zerker is needed in PvE Open world for better rewards

Against world bosses zerker is really inpractial, because you can’t even crit on structures, so at a lot of encounters it’s not the best option.

Just like to add to this part that while it is less effective against bosses like Teq themselves it is still useful when protecting turrets and such so it does have it’s place in world bosses. Just usually not in actually hitting the boss. :-P

If you reached lvl80 and want to gear up yourself with Exotic (orange) gear, you can do a lot of stuff.

• The easiest way is to buy it from the Trading Post for gold, but it’s very unlikely you can afford it as a fresh lvl80.
• The second easiest is to run a few dungeons. As a ranger you will struggle to get in a party, since rangers have a really bad reputation to the overwhelming amount of bearbow players, but … The cool part is, that dungeons gives tokens, which can be used to buy exotic armors or weapons and they give a nice amount of gold each day. Just buy doing a few paths like AC1,2,3, CoF1&2 and maybe CoE1,2,3 it will net you ~13.5 gold + what you get from other loot and it can be done fast.
• The third way is to go in WvW and buy gear from Badge of honor. You get these from killing players, but i don’t know if you are interested in PvP in any form or not.

Fourth you could craft the gear your self. Although a new 80 will probably not have the items required but the option is still there especially if you’ve been crafting as you go along.

I’m pretty sure you can salvage dungeon equipment. Also if you want a rune back use a high level salvage kit (black lion is your best bet). I know you can salvage the weapons and I’m pretty sure I’ve salvaged armor before. You can’t salvage Karma armor though so be careful of that.

Essences of luck only come from fine or masterwork items so salvaging exotics won’t give you any.

A bearbow is a Ranger that only uses bear pets and sits at 1500 (max) range with a longbow. They’re frowned up on in dungeons and instances where they become pretty useless.

Simplest way to level. Explore all the cities. Explore Queensdale 100% (you can see this when you open your map). Move to Kessex Hills (south of Queensdale) when you’ve completed Queensdale. Complete Kessex 100%. Move to Gendarran Fields (north east of Kessex Hills) complete that etc.

Below is the link to the list of maps. Work your way through Kryta and by then you’ll have a solid plan on what you’re doing.
