Yeah, i’ve been meaning to get into fractals, but i have no idea what to do there, and people tend to get mad if you mess up their fractals so i’m scared. :P

Couple of options here. You can ask your guild for help, start your own LFG stating you’re new/asking for help or if you’re on EU servers then nudge me and I’ll grab a few of our guildies to go through with you.

Legendary Gear

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: AdaephonDelat.3890

AdaephonDelat.3890

Well the good news is with full exotics you’re not really behind. You’re just normal.

So to explain the gear in GW2 the higher tier stuff you’re looking at goes Exotics -> Ascended/Legendary. The main difference between Ascended and Legendary is that Legendary has the ability to swap stat outside of combat and it’s a shinier skin. Stat wise both Ascended and Legendary are equal.

There are quite a few ways to acquire Ascended gear, such as WvW, PvP, Achievements, World Bosses, Fractals and Crafting. The surest way to acquire Ascended gear is to craft it and for that you’ll need a crafting discipline at level 500.

This wiki page should give an help find what you’re looking for – https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ascended_equipment

Legendary is harder to acquire and sometimes comes down to luck at getting the right precursor (in the case of weapons). You can buy the old Legendaries or their pre-cursors from the TP but beware crafting one requires a lot of materials you may not have access to at the moment.
In PvE the Legendary armour set is linked to Raids but there is also Legendary armour for sPvP and WvW.

Here’s the wiki for Legendary gear – https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Legendary_equipment

Also you seem to be worrying about when PoF releases. PoF will not introduce a new tier of gear. Ascended/Legendary is staying as the highest tier for this expansion (and possibly for most future ones as well).

Returning Player Help

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: AdaephonDelat.3890

AdaephonDelat.3890

Just getting back into the game myself after about 6 months away so any advice below should probably be taken with a grain of salt.

- I personally wouldn’t say there is a best profession for solo PvE. All of them have solid skills/traits to keep you alive and upright. Now saying that I would agree that Necro, Ranger and Warrior are probably easier to survive on compared to something like Thief and Ele who require a bit more skill. Personally for choosing your profession/class I would select the one you like the look of best and go from there.

- The crafting question largely depends on what profession you choose. If you choose Ranger for example then Leatherworker, Jeweler, Chef, Huntsman and Weaponsmith are all viable options. The last two largely depend on what weapon sets you plan on running.

- If you’ve been away for a long period of time then yes it is worth starting fresh. The first thing I did on returning was start a new character to get a feel for the game again.

- There are shared inventory slots (they come with the level 80 boost) but also the bank is shared between characters.

Tips – Enjoy the journey, learn to dodge, test as many options as you can with your chosen profession to get a better understanding of what they can do.

Story missions too unfair for solo players

Plus it isn’t heroic to single-handedly slay a dragon, it’s just stupid.

Um this statement just feels wrong to me. A lot of mythology involving Dragons has Heroes singlehandedly slaying them. Saint George springs to mind.

I’m talking GW2 dragons which are forces of nature, not mortal beasts like medieval dragons. GW2 dragons have plagued the entire world for centuries, they have driven entire civilizations from their homes. Yet even though they have defeated these entire civilizations, we can defeat them solo? As I said – stupid.

Ok you’ll have to forgive me as I honestly can’t remember the HoT story and I’ve not finished LW3 yet (I’ve just got to Draconis Mons) but from what I remember about Zhaitan it wasn’t a solo effort.

You had munchkins (read: Pact members) running here, there and everywhere reducing his power and weakening it to the extent that you can stab it, allowing you to then rock up and do the aforementioned stabbing. Admittedly the stabbing came in the form of a hefty cannon on the side of an air ship, but stabbing nonetheless.

Either way this is a digression from the main topic of which I have nothing to really add.

Although everything you said above I have no idea how they work yet, I have to figure it out. Specially about the staff. I see I can only use staff after I unlock daredevil and I have no idea how to do this.

To unlock the Elite specialisation (in the case of Thief that’s Daredevil) you need to spend Hero Points. These are earned from the Hero challenges dotted around Tyria. In core Tyria each challenge is worth one hero point and in the HoT areas each challenge is worth 10 hero points.

To fully unlock an Elite specialisation you need 250 hero points.

Whilst the HoT areas look more appealing as they give more points per challenge I would advise against charging straight in there until you a bit more comfortable with your class. Some the enemies hit a little harder there :-P

[BAD] is looking for players to join us and have fun!

Who are we? Welp we’re a casual PvX guild, with our main focus being on PvE. We have some players who enjoy PvP, some who enjoy WvW and some who do neither. So really it’s up to you to pick your poison.

Where are we? In game we’re mainly on Aurora Glade. Of course we don’t discriminate against people from other servers joining but it can make joining WvW pretty interesting (read – Difficult!). Outside of game pretty much all over the place.

What do we do? Same old, same old really. Go in, stab the bad guys, knick the loot, run like hell. Sometimes we skip the stabbing entirely and just run for it. We also try to run guild missions at least once a week, and have certain event nights (woooo Fractal Friday!)

How do we communicate? Well we have Discord for voip, otherwise we’re pretty happy just chilling in chat. Outside of game we do have our own site (it’s below if you want to have a look).

What exactly are we looking for? We’re looking for casual active players to join us, have fun and share cookies. We’re open to all levels of game experience as we try to be helpful where we can, and would hope any newer members with game experience will be as well.

So I’d like to join but how? Well gosh darn it that’s the easiest part! Either contact myself on the forums or in game, or contact one of our officers in game – Dane.5426, AlexMc.2083 or Tali Vaher.9387.

Look forward to seeing some new friends in Tyria!

P.S. – We have cookies. And Beer. Mainly Beer.

please dont lock raids behind masteries

AdaephonDelat.3890

Too late, they already confirmed that reaids are locked behind masteries. That’s the reason they gave us why raids are released after HoT. To give everyone some time to level masteries.

Thats such bull kitten. I dont want artificial difficulty or to have to grind out masteries. I dont find it fun or rewarding to get your masteries up. I understand maybe gliding or mushroom jumping but adding something like the poison mastery would be a kitten off.

Raids should be a test of skill not a test of how many hours you spent grinding out your masteries.

PS- When I say grind its subjective to what I personally think grind is. You might not find getting your masteries up a grind.

The only masteries they’ve mentioned for Raids so far are Mushroom Jumping and Gliding (with Updrafts).

I’d be fine with that since it doesnt take so many hours just to get them.

Please bear in mind that they’re the only 2 I’m aware that they’ve mentioned for Wing 1. Whether others will be needed for Wing 2 or 3 remains to be seen.

I quit GW2 a year ago. Is Beserkers still OP?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: AdaephonDelat.3890

AdaephonDelat.3890

I quit 1 year ago because beserker gear was the only good gear in the game. This made 95% of the other gear useless and in turn made 95% of the playable content a waste of time.

No diversity in builds was a huge problem for me too, I mean I’d really like to have builds between melee dps / tanky caster etc etc but nope. Just beserkers.

Anyway have they done anything to balance gear? or should I just not bother with GW2 anymore?

Are you asking if the Trinity has suddenly popped up? If so the answer is no. The meta for the old content is still Berserker. But if you don’t like it just don’t run it. Everything else is perfectly viable just not optimal.

Otherwise Conditions are now a thing (I believe Engineer, Ranger, Guardian (could be wrong on this one) and Berserker (the new Elite Spec for Warrior not the gear) are the go to condi classes for their burning). When Raids come out there will probably be some different gear choices as the most optimal but we won’t really know that until it’s out (I believe the team that beat the first boss from the Beta had Celestial in their team?).

Is map completion required for Tyria mastery? If not, then what do JP’s have to do with Tyria Masteries?

I believe – and don’t quote me as I’m not sure – that some of the Jumping Puzzle achievements give a mastery point for completing them. I’m pretty sure that to get one Mastery Point you need to get the Dive Master Achievement, which is locked behind some JP’s.

Doesn’t the ground line also have a leading shot you can reflect? I thought it did?

I don’t think so, but then I’ve never had reflect when fighting one. I’m not sure how that would even work though, I think the ground effect is just a box of a fixed size, what would even happen if you reflect the shot halfway to them?

I’m not sure. I usually just pop skill 5 (Ranger Axe) and they leave me alone. Can someone clarify if it does?

And it’s not building around one mob. There are quite a few projectile based enemies (Coztic, Bristlebacks, Arrowhead (not sure if you can reflect that?), Mushrooms, Wyverns (the big ones that spit fireballs) etc.) so just thought I’d suggest something you may not have accounted for.

Yes, but most of those a dodge or two will get you past anything they fire, and most reflects have CDs long enough that you can’t use them any more reliably than that. Although now that you mention it, Bristlebacks are pretty horrendous too.

I’ll agree that the CD thing is true for Daggerstorm but Smoke Screen, whilst not a reflect, still destroys projectiles (plus a blind if you put it close enough) and doesn’t have a horrendous CD.

Also I gotta ask as it’s bugging me. Why do you never include peoples names in quotes?

Use reflects/projectile denial (as a Thief/DD I know of at least 2 that you have off the top of my head). They’ll kill themselves/not kill you in short order.

That protects against the rapid shot, which is seriously the least of my concerns. I can dodge most of that most of the time. It’s the ground line that’s the bigger headache. And besides, I don’t have room to slot those abilities for general content, there’s more important stuff. I don’t want to have to build around one type of mob.

Doesn’t the ground line also have a leading shot you can reflect? I thought it did?

1. Circle around him. Also, you know when he shoots, by seeing him charging up. You could go back to distance to completely avoid damage or just dodge out of it. Always keep moving around if you are unsure.

I do circle around them, but still sometimes take damage due to the size of the hitbox. And sometimes being behind where he is is not an option due to terrain, or would just be otherwise inconvenient. Plus it presumes that he can be your sole focus, which isn’t always possible when there are multiple other enemies to deal with.

2. I believe the mastery nuhoch 4 can counter this.

Perhaps so, but I’m about 8+ masteries away from bothering with that one.

Edit: As of mass snipers. Keep track of every one of them. Play it in a pvp style. Know their position, and adjust your position to it. And when they go stealth, they only move a little bit, and you should be prepared for a line of death

No. I could do those things, but do not want to. I just want them to stop being jerks.

I’m not a casual player. I’m terrible at this game. I get lost, trapped, stunned and crippled all through out these zones. However, after a few days of feeling like I was getting nowhere, I really wish I had some friends who wanted to chill and play with me. People to run with consistently would make this a lot more bearable.

My 2 cents.

Try a guild? If you drop a post in the looking for section making sure to include exactly what you’re looking for then people with a similar mindset will approach you (you may need to filter them a little bit).

With one exception that Wildstar actually advertised as such.

Good point. The new specs were immediately available during the betas. Suddenly locking them behind a grindwall on release was a huge bait-and-switch.

That was the point of the Beta so they could be tested. Hence “Beta Test”. I get it that you’re not happy but seriously some of these complaints are borderline ludicrous.

And before you jump on me as some “Elitist Grinder”, as you like to term them, I’m an explorer (I call myself casual but by definition, the fact that I’m on the forums excludes me from that title). I am enjoying the new maps. I am playing solo sometimes and sometimes with members of my guild. I sometimes die. I sometimes don’t. I am enjoying exploring the new maps and learning how to get from place to place. I’m enjoying some of the events (when they don’t break). I find the new adventures to be fun little diversions especially working out how to do them faster.

So in other words once I learn updraft I can spend the rest of them to max the rest of the masteries in that line?

No. So to get Gliding basics you need to get around 600K exp (I think). Then to master it you need to spend one mastery point. Then Updrafts costs some more experience (can’t remember the needed quantity) and when the bar is full you spend 2 mastery points to master that. This carries on through the whole mastery line.

There are only 213 hero(skill) points in the game and one when you made it in your home instance. So it is not possible that someone has 350 skill points to spare.

There are 400 extra hero points in the new maps. There are 40 challenges and each challenge is worth 10 points.

(Frigging pocket raptors keeping me in combat mode too long….)

The secret to dealing with pocket raptors is…

Deep pockets.

I just love’em.

- Player runs towards them
- “Oh, cute little raptors. Never mind, I can just ignore them”
- Player get’s crippled
- “Hm, kind of annoying.”
- Bleed is stacking, they actually hit like the big ones
- “What the…”
- Player downed
- Player dead

I both love and hate Pocket Raptors. Thankfully they die quickly enough, but unfortunately there’s about 500 of them at any given time. My usual plan of attack is -

- Send in Fire Wyvern
- Press F2
- Watch ’em burn!
- Finish off any stragglers as needed

We killed the Vampire Beast Broodmother from 4th try, required ACTUAL thinking and teamwork, thanks for making the game very much enjoyable and not a dps fest, its a simple boss but still, heres the screenshoot attached of people ENJOYING the small win..

You know that sounded like quite an enjoyable fight and I am happy you had fun. But then I can’t help thinking to myself… all that difficulty built into acquiring one single hero point ???

So what happens when the map eventually quiets down a few months from now and some newbie comes along and meets that particular hero challenge ?

Does he have to go to the LFG tool and ask for a party to acquire said hero point ?

Sad game design is sad.

And nobody helps because doing a hero point more than once gives no loot or exp.

Even more sad game design

From the patch notes -

“The 15 new event-based hero challenges will also provide a daily reward for replaying them.
Additionally, all event-based hero challenges can be retriggered, even if they have already been completed.”

Doesn’t this mean those type of Hero Challenges can be redone? Or am I reading it wrong? (note I haven’t had a chance to play properly yet. Stupid Saturday working >.<)

Most Challenges can be redone .. they only don’t give rewards the second time
so there is no motivation to help other players on a challenge you already made.

And once a day .. yeah .. stand at hero point .. ask for help ..
answers : ask again tomorrow

Fair enough. Well at least I’ll get some extra rewards for helping folks then.

Thank ANET for making the expansion awsome

Perhaps that has something to do with it? Although truthfully I don’t think it should do. May be worth checking the Bug thread and posting in there.

Oh weird. When I entered that was another green shield. He was to the left hand side of the one ahead of you behind one of the pillars.

As you enter there are two NPC’s ahead of you with green shield’s above their heads. One directly in front and one slightly to the left. The one to the left is the influence trader.

Join a good guild my friend.

Any guild worth it’s time will help you through a dungeon. The fact it’s not the cash cow it was doesn’t change much for new players as they have not been pug friendly for a long time.

Also they still give out tokens so some people will still be doing dungeons.

according to a bunch of people on this forum it is.

but eh, i went out and bought a ton of beef jerky, beers, redbulls snacks for prep.
worked out that i can use them to camp for BDO alpha keys instead of playing base engineer for another month.

As you’re off to play BDO can I have your stuff?

ok i made an agry post in the heat of the moment and ill apologize for that
i dont want to give up on the game but i assure you ushering people out who
“dont play within the vision of the game” is not a smooth road.
ive been on it once, it didnt work out well for anyone

I’m not ushering you out. I thought you were leaving. Glad you’re gonna stay. Can I offer a possible alternative to your quandry then? You also get hero points for levelling up in WvW. Why not do a few rounds of EotM with some WvW XP boosters? Dull as hell of course but will allow you play the new content as a Scrapper.

im going to be completely honest with you here.
i appreciate your help in giving me a work around.
and im preparing for backlash before i even continure posting which i SHOULDNT have to do for being an unsatisfied customer but in the age where game companies are defended blindly i feel the heat coming.

i dont raid, i dont PVP, all i want to do si explore the world of maguuma jungle as a scrapper. i undderstand now that is impossible. so please dont get your knickers in a twist, as the game is buy to play there really is no “quitting” but its now noon, expac launched 9 hours ago ive put in 20 minutes because of the system.

dont get me wrong, i got a helluba lot of stuff done in that time, but none if it had to do with GW2. we can let this thread die now. but thats the feedback i want to give.

instead of grinding masteries just to unlock scrapper, ive made a dentist appointment, went to the bank, ate some popcorn and jerkey (i bought supplies for this launch might as well eat em) and got my mail. not to mention vacuuming. you know whats great about vacuuming? i dont need to rank up my vacuum before i make my apartment clean. pretty sweet concept i guess. maybe call dyson? i dunno

Hmmm that’s fair. Notice I didn’t actually defend them nor get “my knickers in a twist”. Just asked for your stuff when I thought you were leaving (my reasoning: you’ll have no need for it if you’re not playing). When you informed me you weren’t I tried to offer you a solution. I appreciate that you dislike this solution but I figured it was one you may not have considered so I thought I’d offer it.

Best of luck wherever you find yourself.

PS – Can I have your stuff? :-P

Per the 2015/10/23 release notes, experience from EotM has now been nerfed by 25%.

Well kitten that sucks.

No HoT = Useless Guild?

@mrstealth.7601 – how much do you need? We have a small group of friends with a guild with 11k inspiration. We only set it up a week ago. Where does that leave us?

I believe (I’d hunt down the source but I can’t remember where it is) that the minimum the claiming event will scale down to 5 people. I know they’ve added an upper cap of 150 players on the claiming event. So as long as you have 5 players you should be fine claiming your hall.

How do I not have enough Hero points??

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: AdaephonDelat.3890

AdaephonDelat.3890

You need 400 points to unlock the whole elite spec (this includes skins/runes. Not sure where they are in the spec). Hero Points in the new Maguuma maps all offer 10 points per completion as opposed to the one point you get for completing a Pact Tyria point.

But there are other people complaining about the piles and piles of unspendable hero points they still have left, what did I do wrong? How am I short?

No one had enough to unlock the elite spec’s when HoT came out earlier. The max Hero Points you could have before HoT’s release was 214.
