Heya mate, thanks for taking the time to provide us with this useful information, I am one of the guys starting here and very much appreciate the information you have provided us with, just a random question though, you said you are on Aurora Glade, what is the average queue times on that realm, or is there any queue at all? I think if its a relatively populated (not overpopulated) and no queue times, I think we might be setting our feet in this realm then, since I have heard about the long queues on t1 realms and even hour or more long WvW queue times there, I believe Aurora might not be a bad choice. Also the kitten t3 etc realms are mostly based on WvW rankings right? nothing to do with pve n pvp? (ofc not WvW).

Thanks again.

Hey Tofy,

Queue times on AG are low. We usually only queue when there are events happening or on reset nights on home borderland and Eternal Battlegrounds. Queues are usually around 20 people max so takes around 20 – 30 minutes max.

Yeah the tiers are all based on WvW rankings.

With regards to Aurora Glade here’s our current server post and you can also check out our server site -

Some people dislike the large amount of people around them and prefer to run in smaller groups, which I believe are more prevalent on low tiered servers like the one I’m on. If someone who plays high tier could clarify that would be ace as I only really have second hand reports.

But yes you will have a larger queue time on more populated WvW servers.

How to level??

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: AdaephonDelat.3890

AdaephonDelat.3890

Have you completed your starting zone? Have you gone to next zone yet? So if you started as a Human your starting zone is Queensdale and the next zone is Kessex Hills to the south. Zone exploration is possibly one of the better forms of experience when first starting out. While you are in the zone then do events as you see them.

When you hit 20 then you can do your story or wait a few levels and do your level 20 story, hit 30 shortly after and then do the level 30 story.

Crafting also gives out experience so you could try that if you haven’t already started.

Check out the current leaderboards for WvW either on the GW2 site or at this external site – http://mos.millenium.org/eu/matchups/ and chose based on your preference.

Personally I’d say join Aurora Glade as it’s the server I’m on and we rock but we’re not top tier so if you want that sort of thing then Seafarers Rest or Desolation would be more for you.

1. Yes if you enjoy PvP. In sPvP you’re levelled to 80 with most traits unlocked (the number XIII trait is not unlocked) and the gear is standardised so you’ll need to set your build up. I’d advise joining practice matches first until you get the idea of your build. Rewards can be quite good. Pick the track you’d like to do and go from there.

2. You get charges from map completion (cities and world maps), sPvP rewards, or buying them.

3. Check the Warrior subforum but I believe metabattle also has some builds. Can’t promise how good they are though.

Best way to do spinal blades backpiece?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: AdaephonDelat.3890

AdaephonDelat.3890

The only way to get shards is from the

not so secret jp,
the sprocket mining node in your home instance (can join a friend in his if you don’t have your own)
the center of the map by killing atherblades in EotM
mining/buying sprockets and promoting them in the forge

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Blade_Shard

It takes a total of 925 Blade shards to create a complete Tempered Spinal Blades.

And 50 sprockets gives 10-15 blade shards.

Thanks for the info! I think i might get a watchwork mining pick, and and camp 2 alts at the JP to maximize.

You can make shards via a mystic forge reciepe. That’s the fastest way to get the blade shards. You’ll still need to buy the reciepe to craft it off the TP, I think. I got the reciepes back during the LS… I decided to make one 2-3 months ago so I just bought the stuff off of the TP to craft it.

Any idea of how much gold it takes to craft? And which craft i need to make it? Thanks!

Unfortunately i just spent 300g on my black orange/mordrem theme so im a little low on gold(although im not against buying gems to convert to gold if its not much, no more than 10-20$ though)
I am specifically trying to get the orange version, regardless of stats if you can guide me =D(my fav color)

Good news is the Orange version is the basic ascended version. You need either Tailor, Armorsmith or Leatherworker at level 500. I think Miyani (at the mystic forge) sells the recipe needed. Just choose the profession you want and away you go. I’d recommend either Leatherworker or Armorsmith as they’re cheaper than Tailor.

If you’re buying sprockets to change into shards you’ll need a lot of cash. Sprockets lowest price is currently 2 s 64 c and you’ll need around 13 – 15 stacks (assuming you’re starting from zero) to forge the necessary amount of shards. Of course my maths could be very, very wrong (and most likely is so please feel free to fix it).

Hmmmm. I like the Carapace shoulders but not too sure they’d go with the Armageddon stuff. Possibly a mix of the Gladiator (shoulders), Barbaric (gloves, boots), Armageddon (leggings, chest)? Not too sure what helm you’d use.

Glorious armor also looks like a possibility with the right dyes.

EDIT – Studded and Dark Templar also look like possibilities.

Ranger is easily my favourite class (and main) but it’s not without it’s own drawbacks.

For melee you have greatsword and sword/X. Greatsword offers good mobility and defence (swoop, counterattack and hilt bash) along with two evades (one on auto attack, one on swoop). Sword takes a little bit of getting used to (helps if you turn off auto attack) but offers two evades and some fast attacks. With Sword it’s the off hand you choose that helps to broaden your build.

Axe – Offers a pull and a reflect.
Dagger – offers another evade and a cripple (works well with the trait Predators Onslaught).
Warhorn – Grants boons to you and 4 others and is a blast finisher for blasting fields.
Torch – Gives a fire field.

For WvW you’ll generally choose one melee and take a ranged option like Longbow or Shortbow (I prefer Longbow as it has better burst damage and a longer range). But here’s where Ranger’s fall down. They’re quite good at solo/small group roaming. They’re not great at large group roaming. I mean yeah you can do it and they do at least offer a water field for people to blast but they’re largely single target damage which is not great against large groups.

For PvE they offer some decent party buffs (Spotter trait and spirits for example are the ones most commonly requested/used) and a group heal/condi cleanse.

The issue you may have is pet management. You will need to micro manage your pet (and this is where I sometimes fall down when I stop paying attention to it) as quite frankly pets are dumb as a sack of rocks. You’ll need to get used to switching to passive, hiding using abilities, swapping, and healing pets to get the most out of your Ranger.

I think Seal covered the different types of stuff that Guards bring the party. They’re one of the better defensive supporters so that’s why you see a lot of buffs (like Aegis, Stability, Swiftness etc) in their utilities. Things like Signets and Meditations are less boon focused and slightly more selfish. Consecrations are group wide support (condi cleanse, stab, projectile protection/reflection),

I also enjoy playing Necro in WvW but I only really use him for large group playing. He’s ok for small group roaming but not as good as other characters I have, such as my Guardian.

With regards to your last point I’d say Guardian fits that spot quite well. To get the most out of your class though you can’t just stick with one build across all game modes as they all need different things at different times. Dungeons like CM and SE are projectile heavy so wall of reflection is useful there. Worlds bosses like the Jungle Wurm in Caledon forest can’t be reflected so WoR isn’t as useful there but stability and condi cleanse is.

When you say that you feel Guardian is lacking diversity and options what exactly do you feel is missing? Is it that you feel that all the skills are similar? Or is it just the lack of ranged options?

For WvW are you solo/small group roaming or are you doing large scale zerg roaming? The three classes you’ve mentioned work slightly differently in each situation.

If you want a better idea of what they do take them into PvP (there’s a gate in your racial city that takes you to Lion’s Arch and gate in the southern keep that lets you enter PvP) and play around with builds etc.

Otherwise I’d say level each class to around 30 before making a firm choice. You’ll have more unlocked by then and will have had a chance to play around with the different weapon sets.

Firstly there’s no tank/healer/DPS trinity in this game. We have a soft trinity of Control/Damage/Support which all classes can be spec’d into to varying degrees.

With regards to your wanting a Damage/Support class then I’d recommend either Guardian or Elementalist.

Guardians provide good damage and support like Aegis (blocks the next attack), blinds, reflects, group wide condition cleansing and group wide stability.

Ele’s are excellent damage dealers and can provide more offensive buffs like might, and fury as well as supportive things like healing and condition cleansing.

Depends what you mean by “decent”. If you mean optimal (or nearly optimal) then no it’s not. If you mean viable and will be able to complete stuff then yeah it’s fine.

Personally I’d change the trinkets to something else to get more crit chance (so Rampagers, Assassin’s, Captain’s etc.) and swap the sigils. I’d use two of the following – sigil of accuracy, sigil of frailty, sigil of fire, sigil of force, sigil of bloodlust or sigil of perception. Also I’d swap out the runes for the rune of Flame Legion as it gives a bonus against burning foes and you seem to be focusing on burns.

The problems you have with new dailies come from barriers, fears and limitations you are imposing yourself.

Not true! You dont know me.
I will not fight other players.
I bought a PVE game to fight monsters not humans.

anet wants me to PVP, WVW and esports (ha ha). Not with me.

Technically the bolded part of your statement is limitation or barrier you have set yourself so VodCom was correct.

Also you don’t need to PvP. Dailies like Big Spender do not require any PvP at all. You log in to WvW walk to a vendor, spend 25 badges of honor (if you have over 500 achievement points then you have these badges), get your daily and log back out. The Vendors are all located in the safe zone where no enemy players can get you.

If you want to start over with a new character, bear in mind the following changes:

1. The “New Player Experience” (NPE) changes the pace in which you unlock weapon skills, the ability to dodge, gathering, crafting, weapon swaps, etc. Stat increases, skill points and trait points are also awarded at different moments. There are now rewards on levelup, including (sometimes) items.

Dodge, gathering and crafting are all available at level 1/2. Information about them is not given out until you reach certain levels.

Crafting...

Not try to be an idiot…

… how do you promote things? That link says that you can promote stuff, but…

Am I doing this through the mystic forge? Buying some item that allows me? I dont know where to go in-game to figure this out.

Seems like a tone of work to try and figure out how to do this… I guess I was looking for something intuitive, or at the least, obvious.

Am I missing an obvious NPC in game that tells me how to do this? Seems like you wouldn’t make a crafting system that required people to wiki how to even learn the system. I have to be missing something in-game… I’m sure it’s obvious, I just don’t know what…

I’m not too sure I’d class the forge/promotion as crafting. Honestly not sure what I’d call it but probably not crafting.

But here’s how to promote stuff in the forge.

1 – take 250 of the low level item (so jute scraps or iron ore for example)
2 – take 1 of the item you want to promote to (so with jute you promote to wool and iron promotes to platinum)
3 – take 5 or more of the promotion tier dust (so to make wool you need shimmering dust whereas platinum requires radiant dust)
4 – take 1 – 5 philosopher’s stones (this depend on the promotion level. Lower levels need less stones)
5 – throw all of this in the forge and receive your new materials.

Promoting finished materials (bolts of cloth or ingots etc.) follows similar guidelines but requires more philosopher’s stones.

Personally if I need cash I either run a few dungeons, hit world bosses or hit Silverwastes. Sometimes a combination of all 3. I’m not saying that the 29 gold will happen instantly but if they’re patient enough for like 2 or 3 days they’ll get the money.

Yeah I see what you mean,I think it could be a bit offputting for returners/newcomers.If I had to spend gold on gems I’d be much appealed to buy some of the armor skins or other vanity items instead of an episode, but I guess that’s just me.

Yeah I can understand that which is also why I (and Draknar) suggested that he take them through if they only want the story. The only reason to unlock the episodes is if they want any special rewards such as the carapace armour or they want to craft Mawdrey. But honestly if you’re not willing to earn some cash to unlock the episodes for Mawdrey chances are you’re not going to be bothered to do all the stuff needed to craft Mawdrey.

Probably not the best way to welcome a returning player…. And not the best way to convince them to buy an expansion pack….

If they just want to catch up with the story and you have it unlocked why not take them through? Also you can convert gold to gems. Earning gold gradually they can unlock each chapter as they get enough money. Currently the gem conversion is sitting at around 29 gold for 200 gems. 29 gold isn’t too hard to get hold of.

This detracts from my enjoyment of the game to be honest with you. I used to wander freely, as I wished, collecting as I wished and NOW it seems that I have to be ‘’ordered around’’ to do things just to get my daily? Surely this is forcing the player to do something against their will and in fact causing them unnecessary distress when despite no matter how hard they try, they simply cannot finish daily.

Makes the whole point of playing pretty pointless in my opinion. I was HAPPY with the way it was. I was CONTENT to do what I logged in to do and have done since 2012. Now, all of that said, is there any way that I can play Guild Wars 2 the way I want too? Y’know, give the player what they want and all that.

In answer to your question – yes there is. It’s quite simple really – you log in and do what you want to do. You say you’ve been doing that since 2012 so nothing should really have changed.

I have to ask have you been absent for the game for a while? This change was introduced at the start of December last year.

Colin Son-of-Johan only confirmed that they are looking at it, nothing else…

No he confirmed that it would be changing -

“In doing so: we’re going to be removing the current trait unlocking system currently on live and replacing it with a more simplified system that supports where skills-traits-specializations are going in the future. We’ll go into more details between now and the release of HOT on how skills, traits, and specializations will work in the new Gw2 world.”

I made my first lvl 80 Thief two days ago.
What do i do now?

What do you want to do now? Have you tried WvW? Have you tried PvP?

My gear is all Exotic , basic buy from Market.
I understood i need to do fractals for pink gear?

No you don’t need to do Fractals for ascended gear but to do high level fractals you do need some ascended gear. To get ascended gear the best bet is to craft it, and that takes a bit of time and a lot of materials.

World Bosses i do them from time to time.
I do story modes of dungeons for the 50silver reward.
Is it worth it to do paths? everyone is looking for zerk/xp players – should i go dungeon paths? what are the rewards?

World bosses are a good source of dragonite ore which is needed to craft ascended.
For dungeon rewards check this link – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dungeon#Explorable_mode but in answer to your question yes they are worth doing it.

Best race and profession for a beginner?

I like hanging back a bit, always battling but not necessarily up close all the time.

Have you looked at Elementalist or Engineer? They’re kinda difficult to master (and fair warning but you’ll probably die a lot early on but you did say you didn’t mind playing a more difficult class) but they have solid ranged options.
For Ele you have long range with staff or mid range with scepter/X (focus or dagger your choice really).
For Engi you have rifle and grenade kit as long range and for mid range weapons you have pistol/X (another pistol or a shield), flamethrower and elixir gun.

Both of these options also offer good team support e.g. Ele has access to water fields which can be used to heal teammates (note this doesn’t mean it’s a healer just that it’s some of the skills they have)

Race is mainly aesthetic so honestly it’s up to you on that one. There are a few racial skills that work quite well with some professions (Mesmer and the Asuran skill “Technobabble” come to mind) but otherwise just go with what ever you like.

Profession wise what sort of play style do you enjoy?

Final Review of GW2

But then I researched ascended gear, and found out what I would have to do to get it. I tried fractals of the mists once, and completed the first level successfully. I hated it. It wasn’t fun at all. The whole time I couldn’t wait for it to be over. Now, this wouldn’t be a big deal since I liked the other game modes (especially WvW). I learned that it would be a major grind to get ascended involving a game mode I didn’t like, and that I would be at a disadvantage in WvW without it. That disadvantage looks to be about 10% all told from my research on the internet, which is enough to be substantial. I deleted the game.

So I doubt this’ll make much difference now but this section here is wrong. Fractals are not required to craft ascended gear. I don’t know who told you that but it’s wrong.

Also you’re not at a disadvantage in WvW for not running ascended. I do just fine in Exotics. A lot of other people do as well (as illustrated in responses above). If you really want ascended gear, set it as a long term goal for yourself and just play the game earning stuff as you go.

Anyway best of luck in whatever you decide to play next.

PvP with new char

Yes you can as all stats are normalized in PvP. You’ll need to purchase the weapons you want to use (used to be a vendor in the mists not sure if they’re still there. If not just use the TP) but other than that you’ll be fine.

How to get to asura story quest?

You can lower (or raise) the map levels shown. On the bottom right hand corner of your map is 1 – 4 white squares on top of each other. Scrolling between these (I can’t remember what the command is. It’s possibly ALT + Scroll wheel or CTRL + Scroll Wheel otherwise I think you can click on them) shows different levels of the map so the bottom one will show underground passages and such.

From the waypoint above the skill point head past the skill point and into the cave. There you’ll find your story instance.
