Today’s daily was better than the previous days. 3 of the 4 pve dailies were easy enough to get for everyone. If you didn’t have the time (or proper timing) to get Maw you had 3 other options that you could do in real time.

I’m not sure if brand new players had a problem getting “iron marches event completer”. I heard you get different dailies depending on your highest level character. I can’t confirm that because my toons are all 80.

However, if they keep it this way I rescind my former objections to the new system. I just don’t want to see the following:

1) a need to camp out bosses

2) a requirement for new players to get to an unobtainable level.

3) Forcing PVE players into game modes they don’t normally want to play.

With regards to point 2 this is from the patch notes -

“The number of available achievements per day is based on the highest-level character on an account:
Levels 1–10: 1 achievement per category
Levels 11–30: 3 achievements per category
Levels 31–80: 4 achievements per category”

I believe someone put up a screenshot from a low level account that didn’t have the silverwastes achievement listed as available, but I’ll be kittened if I can find the darned thing.

I have to say I’m enjoying the new system so far. Now whether that continues or not time will tell. Here are the reasons why I’m currently enjoying it -

- More freedom. I now don’t have to do my dailies to get the laurels/mystic coins I need if I don’t want to. If I decide that the things on the list are beneficial to me and not massively out of my way then I don’t mind hopping into Kryta to chop down a few trees or getting a Vista in Ascalon that I don’t have yet.

- Nifty rewards. If I do decide that 4 events in Silverwastes (or wherever) is worth my time then I get some nifty little rewards. Are they amazing? Nope. Are they fun? Yeah I think so.

- As someone who plays PvE, WvW and sPvP it’s great because when I login and realise that tonight the guild is raiding in WvW I don’t have to rush around trying to bang out some PvE dailies so that I can finish them off in WvW. I simply hop into WvW with the WvW achievements selected and away I go!

So at the moment it’s a good change but I’ll reserve full judgement on the system until I’ve had a month or so to experience it.

The laurels now drop from the login reward chests. If you choose the laurel chest at the end you will receive a total of 55 laurels over the 28 days. Here’s the break down of what you receive -

[Suggestion] Dungeon Revisit

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Eh couple of points here -

Firstly the reason you are met with so much sarcasm etc. is because people post the same suggestions over and over again without fully understanding the mechanics behind everything. By your own admission you think that dungeons require gear etc. They don’t. I’ve done Ascalon Catacombs on low level characters kitted out in blues/greens (generally below my level) and can still complete it quite easily. Why? Because I know the mechanics etc (I’ve levelled a lot of characters in that darned dungeon).

Secondly people can solo Arah. Purple Miku (posted earlier about walls of text) is one person I know of in this thread who can. I’m guessing quite a few members of [rT], [DnT], [SC], [iV] etc can do it.

Hell I ain’t even that great a player and even I can solo some of the low level stuff.

well to me gear shows a significant difference, If I enter a dungeon alone without armor or at least a very low set with low weapons, I can’t even scratch a opponent, leave alone I will be one hit ko. while with my current gear is not the best, it will protect me against quite a few blows instead of getting one hit killed. and the damage (tough in my eyes still low) does a lot more then just tickle the opponent.

yes the only option left is to just completely ruin my build, most likely trade in my gear for other more expensive gear and so on to just adjust my char to specific dungeon preferable.

secondly, I suspected as much, most likely almost everybody here on this forum is a great player, that’s how that song goes for every mmo,
I can’t compete to that, I lack the time, I respect people for being able to do that, I just dislike it when some are smug about it, pride is fine, smug is a different case, I’m just unable to believe somebody can learn to run a dungeon solo without going completely pro and dedicating most time to this game.

As I said you don’t need to change your build or gear (well upgrading it maybe a good idea depending on what you’re running). I’ve done most of the sub lvl 70 dungeons using level appropriate characters wearing whatever gorram gear I’ve managed to get a hold of and still managed to complete them. The thing you need is knowledge of the paths and mechanics. Easiest way to get that is to ask other people to teach you.

Ok I didn’t really read the whole OP (sorry gave me a headache halfway through) but I’m bored at work so I’ll bite. Here are a couple of possible solutions to what I did glean from it -

1) Ask other people who have the time/inclination to help you through to come with you. I would have suggested [NOOB] to you but I believe you may have already shot yourself in the foot on that one so…..
2) Start your own group and specify that you’re a) new b) not wanting to skip etc. all in the LFG description. People join and don’t like it, then boot them and carry on.
3) See if [PASS] is still going and will take you along.

No problem, the fact that you are honest about it makes it less of a pain, I do type a lot more then regular people, I love literature after all.

Thing is, I can beat bosses in the open world with whatever build I tried so far, its stupid you can’t do that in a dungeon. Also refrain form calling me a noob, I won’t claim to be a expert in the game, but I’m far from a noob as well, Ive seen players… some that just do the most stupid things, I’m more halfway, not extremely good, but also not horrible.

I wasn’t calling you a noob. I was talking about the dungeon teaching guild [Noob]. It’s stickied at the top of this forum! But as I said you’ve already shot yourself in the foot with that one as most of the teachers are the people you’re arguing with in this thread.

Ah sorry, misread there,
even so, I don’t care wherever people here are teachers or not,
if they want to help and offer advice, sure, I will try to follow it and consider it,
but if they add sarcasm, hate, annoying backhand insults, sorry, I won’t show respect to that, I only show respect for people who can talk to me in a proper way, even if they are pro players, respect is a basic etiquette that goes for everybody.

Not to mention I already stated that matters little, this is a post for a suggestion, not a post to ask for tactics. Not to confuse anybody I will add I appreciate the helpful comments, but most of it is stuff I already heard and tried. trying to solo does not work in a dungeon like Arah.

what I AM asking, is why so many people seem to disagree with a change that won’t effect them at all in a bad way, and could even be beneficial, for everybody.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: AdaephonDelat.3890

AdaephonDelat.3890

I personally was using the dailies for my alts exp.

Now logging in every day for 28 days gets you 10 levels worth of tomes. I suspect you can pick even more tomes with the 28th day bonus.

I have my issues with this change, but experience for your alts should be the least of your worries.

If you take the tomes you lose laurels compared to before.

Also I was using the XP for low level alts/keyfarming, where 1 daily achievement gave more than on high level.

And concerning the AP, as you already stated 5 are better than none.

On the other sides laurels are easier to get now and also additional rewards from the new dailies.

In the end the change has also downsides for me and I ask myself if that dev-time wouldn´t have been better spent on something else.

Doing the achievements still gives the same amount of exp (5%) but now in a consumable form which is account bound. You can just save these, give ’em to your lowbie and level up like that.

I guess you mean that new XP-scrolls for the new dailies?

At first such a scroll gives a lot less XP than what a daily achievement gave before on low level (maybe half of that former XP, if at all; already had a look on that, hoping it would be some kind of replacement for the lost XP).

Second, you still have to do the new dailies to receive them – and most of the new dailies are not worth the extra time for the XP given while before I could manage most dailies with normal gameplay and some even only finishing on my alts (4 fast events on 80 in SW, 5th event for finishing the daily in queensdale).

I was working on the wiki which doesn’t appear to have been updated (but of course could have been). According to that completing a daily (in the old system) will give you 5% towards your next level – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dailies#Rewards

According to the new page for the Writ of Experience (what you call “new XP-scrolls”) they also give 5% – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Writ_of_Experience

The bit you’re probably missing out on is the tasks you were doing to complete said daily. But yes you are correct you still need to actually do the dailies to earn these things. Or just don’t do them get your login rewards and use the tomes you get and level up with those.

Do dailys achieve their goal?

I feel that one thing you’ve missed is from the WvW/PvP side (as you’ve admitted you don’t play those game modes). For people that only really play one (or both) of those modes they are now getting rewarded for actually playing their preferred game mode without going out of their way.
I know in the past you could cover off a lot of the dailies in those game modes (condition remover/applier for example), but surely this way it is easier for them to get rewarded for playing things they enjoy. Also if I recall correctly that is one thing those two sections of players have been calling for, for a while (although possibly not in this format, but at least it’s a step in the right direction).

As another point people like myself managed to let their inner Skritt go wild at the thought of just getting reward chests for doing things I’d be doing anyway. in fact my guild mates have started nicknaming me Mr. Skritt…

AdaephonDelat.3890

My concern is about the resetting larger achievements. So if I do all 28 individual rewards they reset. As a person who generally only does PvE and WvW, if there are PvP metas and I don’t do them, mine will never reset.
I’m not into PvP and never have been. This is crap for the people who like the game but just aren’t into other parts of it. I’m now being forced to play the game in a way I don’t want to if I wish to continue getting rewards.

You don’t seem to have grasped it. You can do 3 of any of the daily achievements from the PvE, WvW or PvP categories to get your daily reward. You also get a reward for logging in each day and this is different to the ones you get from dailies. When you reach 28 log ins (over the course of time not in one particular month) your progress resets and you start again.

They do mention that by doing more than 3 dailies you’ll be able to get some extra rewards but you’re not being forced to play PvP. By not playing at the moment you’re already missing out PvP only rewards like the Balthazar back pack and the glorious armour so for you there should be no change.

1. Yes you do. You need to do the 3 borderlands and Eternal Battlegrounds.

2. Couple of ideas. You could transfer but that’s kinda expensive. You could rally the troops so to speak and either organise a world exploration/completion event or tag up and try leading people to get the bits you need.
Otherwise you may need to just wait it out and take bits gradually as you can. Check it whenever you logon to see what you own then jump in grab what you can and get out again.

This "Meta" has to end

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

AdaephonDelat.3890

point 1: you have already said you prefer to play with those who can solo, over those who expect you to pull your weight. Urgo: carried.

point 2 You’re the one proclaiming them elite. Whos putting words into whose mouth?

point 3:Can’t carry is not won’t carry.

Those capable of faster dungeons want them, because they want more loot. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this.

4 man is faster than carrying bad people in most cases.

Your entire response is basically arguing that bad players should be carried by good ones. Or meta players should carry non-meta players.

My paraphrasing was accurate.

Ergo not urgo. Urgo was a character in Stargate SG-1 (played by Dom DeLuise). Also I believe Vod was trying to expand on hybrid (Nike?)‘s point. Here I’ll quote it for you -

Whats funny is, the people who are actually in elite pve guilds almost always run in “anything goes” pugs and aren’t very particular, in many cases they want the other players to be raw since its more fun for them to carry those kinds of groups. The “zerk only 5k AP” people aren’t actually even close to real min-maxers.

Switching between any server (regardless of region) either costs gems or if you have no characters is free. Moving servers is restricted to once a week (I believe) so when you move you’ll have to wait if you decide you want to move again.

1 thing to note – if you’re playing on an EU server you can’t play with people on NA servers but you can play with players on any other EU server.

Man they must be in pretty deep financial trouble if someone going on vacation can delay something for 2 years.

Colin’s reply to you from a year ago -

Is there any sort of timeline on this? It was first stated over 6 months ago I believe. Is this something that is going to happen in the next few months? 6 more months? A year? 10 years? Obviously you can’t give us an exact date, but some sort of rough timeline would be nice.

We’ve learned we really can’t give timelines, since if we’re ever wrong a mob comes after us with torches and pitchforks I can say we started designing this, and realized the proper (not hacked in quick) solution needs to be a part of bigger systems that more clearly directs players as well as ties in comprehensive rewards for playing across our game world, which we’re currently working on right now.

Server wise it doesn’t really matter unless you intend to play WvW. If you don’t want to play WvW then pick whichever server you like the name of best.

If you intend to play WvW here are the current standings -

https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en-gb/eu/wvw

Personally I’d recommend Aurora Glade. Here’s why -

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/recruitment/Aurora-Glade-is-looking-for-you/first#post4558442

With regards to race there’s no specific race/class combo’s you have to use. Choose a race you like the look of pick your class and off you go.

Necro is good fun but it begins to fall short of other classes in the higher end PvE. If you want to speed run dungeons then there are much better classes. If you’re not to fussed about that then yeah Necro is fine for PvE just be aware that some people may kick you from groups.
Necro does do well in WvW and sPvP and is often quite wanted there.

Teragriffs are the new FGS

AdaephonDelat.3890

What is FGS?

The wiki and a google search suggests Fiery Greatsword, but that’s still in the game so it can’t be what you’re referring to.

Nope that what they’re referring to. They’re referring to the FGS “nerf” where you can no longer use fiery rush into a wall and rack up massive damage.

Knockback is an interrupt. I use it a lot. If people don’t like it tough on them.

Why not try some of the other skills that don’t move targets out of other peoples melee range? That’s why people complain. Here’s some skills you could use to mitigate damage and not annoy anyone around you -

Where are craftable precursors?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: AdaephonDelat.3890

AdaephonDelat.3890

As Colin said a year ago -

You will absolutely see a way to create a precursor available in the future. As detailed in our plans for the second half of the year here:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/

As mentioned at the end of the blog, as always things are subject to change as test and prepare various systems. Most of the stuff covered in the blog you’ve already seen implemented, or steps towards being implemented, however the precursor building (and corresponding additional legendary items) is the one highest at risk to not make it this year.

It is still something we absolutely plan to do!

and from 3 months ago -

  • These lists would have no definitive time frame when they would be updated. Iterative development can be fast, it can be slow (hi precursors!) and sometimes priority’s can change over night based on player feedback, company needs, or even things that occur due to staffing changes from illness, vacation, etc.

Achievement Point Skins

Posted by: AdaephonDelat.3890

AdaephonDelat.3890

There isn’t a way to exchange them you just need to get more achievement points as the ones you didn’t choose originally unlock later. For example if you picked the Hellfire Gloves at 3000 AP when you get to 12000 AP you’ll get the Radiant ones.

How would you beat Bubbles? Build an Asura gate under the ocean and shove a bomb through it too?

Well, yeah. That is actually quite appealing.

It beats the hell out of grinding for lost bandit boxes to get super-rare recipe drops.

Thankfully it wouldn’t affect the rest of Tyria too much. Well other than irradiating some Tuna – http://what-if.xkcd.com/15/

Let me just make sure of something here. The highlighted part you seem to be complaining about the lack of gear treadmill. Is that correct? If so the door’s over there, don’t let it hit you on the way out.

Incorrect. Just wanted to point out that every item here is purely cosmetic.

That’s kinda the point? If it’s not cosmetic then it will be a stat increase ergo Gear Treadmill. That’s not really what this game is based around. Now if we’re talking more skills etc. then yeah no issue here campaign your little heart out. Otherwise my statement above still stands.

AdaephonDelat.3890

Funny how you all can not understand the point.

My point was IF you can compare brandy to water than you can do same with Wow and Gw2. (What all of you did btw)

Anytime I see such comparisons GW2 ppl attack OP by saying you can’t compare 2 different things…
With same success you can compare apple and orange.

We understood. We just thought it was a daft comparison.

The reason I switched back to WoW is that GW2 offers same things as 2 years ago.
No new classes,Weapons, spells (useless healing spells excluded), Dungeons, Bosses, It only offers timeless grind for some sparkly shiny skin which gives you 0 bonus and power over others.

Let me just make sure of something here. The highlighted part you seem to be complaining about the lack of gear treadmill. Is that correct? If so the door’s over there, don’t let it hit you on the way out.

Maybe I’m tired but this analogy makes zero sense to me.

PS: WoW sucks.

I think OP is alluding to the idea that when bottled correctly alcohol lasts longer than bottled water, and then goes on to say that WoW is the booze and GW2 is water.

So what I think they’re saying is GW2 is good for you whereas WoW is addictive and causes liver damage?

So how is the game doing?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: AdaephonDelat.3890

AdaephonDelat.3890

Now that I am Looking at the skills again I take back what I said earlier. Mesmer might actually be fun to try out. The complete randomness of the staff skill set mixed with signet of inspiration and midnight, might be the worst possible combo for all I know, but the complete and utter chaos from the randomness of it all sounds pretty fun.

As munkiman said Mesmer’s are really good fun. I’m a big fan of Sword and Torch on mine (torch isn’t optimal and the Phantasm’s poor but the other skill is really good fun :-P )

With regards to your earlier comments about Necro’s some of their skills can work really well together. For the ranged side of it try Scepter (900 range) or Axe (600 range) as they require less ground targeting and Axe can be useful in group settings (applies vulnerability). About hurting themselves you don’t have to use the corruption skills (personally I only use Blood is Power) but if you combine that with off hand dagger, Consume Conditions or Plague Signet you can easily rid yourself of any damage and inflict slightly more on you opponent.

Another race?

AdaephonDelat.3890

Largos would most likely be the underwater race we’d get, imo. Maybe when we take the fight to Sir Bubbles.

Can you even knight a malevolent and destructive force of nature? Or is this just an attempt to call him Bubbles still, just with the “S” starting character?

Not all knights where in bright shiny armor doing good deeds. So sure, why not.

Actually the “S” thing didn’t cross my mind until after I hit post, but when I realized it, it did make me chuckle. Course, could just start calling him ‘Shamu’ as well….

Actually I was more worried about getting it to kneel in front of you whilst you raise a sword and place it on it’s shoulders (gonna be a bit of a stretch!). Swords and Dragons generally don’t mix too well (from the dragons point of view) so his draconic instincts may kick in and you’ll get chomped :-P

It’s been done with scepters too. We could get around the sword thing. Besides, he can stay in the water, and we’ll stand on a cliff. Logistics can be worked out. :p

True I didn’t think of that. Still kinda worried about getting chomped but it sounds safer than my idea. Ok! Let’s go knight Shamu!

@Filaha – Who would be the other Katherine then? (also I love that game! even if I do suck at the later levels >.< )

The races of Tyria are too dumb to use any other species on the planet as mounts.

They are also too dumb to use all the vehicles created by the Charr to use as mounts.

Walking it is. Especially in unexplored areas, walking is the way to go. Kitten, there are even aircrafts, but you know, we walk. Makes sense, who would want to fly anyway…

Well given the amount of times my characters have fallen off of cliffs and such I’d wager they’re all pretty scared of heights now so I can’t really blame them for not wanting to fly :-P

- Playerbase is steady? We have no real numbers but I still see quite a few people (ones that I know and other random people) when I log in so for me it’s ok I guess?
- Yes
- Warrior, Ranger, Thief and Elementalist fit both criteria. Guardian, Engineer (using Bomb Kit) and Necromancer fit the first part.
- Learn to dodge. This one’s rather important otherwise you’ll die. Also check out these threads. Some of the advice may be a little out of date but they’re both pretty solid -
