Yes that is entirely possible. It’s basically a free server transfer as you keep all the account bound and non bound tradable stuff (e.g. crafting materials) that are stored in your bank. So if he moves all his non soul bound stuff into his bank and then deletes his character he can move for free.

I was not aware that the ‘hardcore’ players’ goal was to get much girls (with aforementioned mounts, of course).

Thus, I will have to veto the whole idea of mounts. =(

Well really gonna lower the tone but… I think he’s using a different definition of hardcore and mount ;-)

Question – do the current mounts and toys get put away when you exit a map? So if you equip it in Gendarran Fields and then walk into Kessex does it un equip your Magic Carpet?

Because if they do there would be one my biggest issues with mounts in this game. Apart from the fact that I dislike the idea in general would it not be the most annoying thing in the world to just constantly re-equip the darned thing every time you changed maps?

snip
I’ll like something with nice animations (like mesmer) paired up with both meele and ranged dps. Also i don’t wanna be too squishy or a character with a really high skill floor.
snip

Based on the above I would recommend Ranger. I am a little biased on this as I main a Ranger and love the class but I will stick with my recommendation because -

1) Animations are pretty cool. Sword and Dagger are highly mobile weapons allowing you dodge and manoeuvre around your enemies. As mentioned by a poster above Sword can be an acquired taste and it may take a little while of playing with it to get used to timings.

2) Melee options are good for Ranger (GS skill 2 – Maul is a personal favourite) but they have reliable ranged options as well. Longbow has some nice burst damage (unfortunately to get the most out of longbow you need to be quite far away from your target) but you also have main hand axe and shortbow at your disposal as well as dagger, torch, warhorn and off hand axe all having ranged off hand skills as well.

3) Skill floor is not really high (like an Ele) but to be a decent Ranger you will need to learn to micro manage your pet (and if you’re using Sword to manage timings for dodges). With regards to squishiness Ranger is in the middle range for HP and armour so they’re durable enough coupled with the defensive skills on their weapons like blocks and evades then you shouldn’t have any issues.

I am now level 28 and i do not feel like i am getting any better. I feel just as good at level 28 as i did at 6.. All enemies still take the same amount of hits to kill.

What class are you playing? What level is you gear? What skills are you using? What weapons are you using?

Are you saying at level 28 level 6 mobs die in the same amount of time? or that level 28 mobs die in the same amount of time as level 6 mobs did when you were level 6?

you’ll probably get kicked on sight in some parties. And there’s even advertisement for “no necros”. But there’s plenty of lfg groups, so you will always find one suiting your needs, especially if you take a good build and know the encounters.

That is kinda cruel. . . How is one suppose to learn the encounter from the Necromancer’s standpoint if they are getting kicked. . . That is like having an entry level job for people with 2+ years experience only. . .

The groups you should join at the start are the ones with no requirements such as “P2”, “P1 All Welcome”, “P3 We have cookies” etc, Actually always join the cookie LFG’s. They’re good fun. Another option is to join a guild and run with them. When we do guild runs we don’t care what players bring or what level they are (as long as they’re the right level for the content).

Or just make your own LFG. “Story – new player” “P1 New player” “P2 All welcome” etc.

I just dont think its very realistic or lore friendly

I actually think its quite the opposite, traditional leveling without downlevel is whats not really very realistic. Leveling in a way is meant to reflect experience like you said but does experience ever make you immortal? Would an expert swordsman not get hurt by swords trusts of someone who just started? Weapons are always lethal no matter what your experiance is.

snip

Would just like to add to the bolded part. The Centaurs you fight in Queensdale, Kessex Hills, Gendarran Fields and Harathi Hinterlands are all trained soldiers. Just because they’re a lower level than my Ranger who’s joined a large group of adventurers to fight an undead Dragon doesn’t mean they don’t pose a threat to him. The Centaurs are trained for battle and have been engaged in warfare for quite a while. They should pose a threat to me no matter what my experience is.

Necro is the worst pve class, because they have little access to support. The Eu meta doesn’t use necros much, but it’s a good class. Get countered and counters things. They are especially useful in www, for more than 5 man content. Less than that, the lack m=of mobility starts to be an issue.

What do you mean little support? Minions are a form of support (though they should not be good at it) They have Wells and some of their marks seem great. Is their fear not that good as a CC method?

oxtred is probably referring to the fact that Necro’s lack the ability to reliably offer offensive or defensive boons. In fact the only one I can think of off the top of my head is protection when traited.

By offensive boons we’re talking about things like Might, Fury, etc. and defensive ones being Aegis, Stability, Vigor etc.

The two things Necros do have easy access to are blinds and group condi cleanse but Thief (and to an extent Guardian) do blinds better, Guardian does condi cleanse better.

Unfortunately Minions are dumb as a sack of rocks and don’t help the user half the time let alone anyone else.

Saying all that I still enjoy playing my Necros and still take them into dungeons and group content. Just in more relaxed runs of the content when I’m running with guildies and we’re having fun.

I have noticed that. . . silly Blood Fiend attacking mosquitoes while the raptor tries to nom my ears off. . .

They do have access to offensive conditions though like Bleed, Poison, ad Vulnerability which I think is really helpful.

I just like the feel of the Necro so much. . . it just feels right in what it is bringing to the table as a Damage dealing CC of sorts. . .

Touché I did forget about the Vulnerability. Also in defence of Necros they can output some decent direct damage. All I’m going to say is if you’re enjoying playing as a Necro then keep going. If you play on EU servers hit me up in game sometime and I’d be more than happy to take you dungeoning or help out if I can.

I respect all of your wrong opinions, but the very definition of a level is to discern one from the next. If you make them all the same just defeats the purpose

Sorry to break it to you but an opinion can’t really be wrong. You can disagree with it (which you evidently do) but it doesn’t make it wrong. Perhaps next time you decide to buy a game you should do some research into a little bit to decide whether it’s the right sort of game for you? Unfortunately GW2 does not seem to fit your vision of what it should be and thus you will most likely not enjoy it.

No worries. It’s not called pet swapping in the list. If you look at level 5 it says “Profession skill 1 unlocked”, and next to it is the little Ranger Paw with “Profession skills 3 and 4 unlocked.”. So for a character like an Engineer at level 5 they unlock the F1 skill whereas a ranger will unlock F1, F3 and F4 at level 5. Your F2 skill will unlock at level 13.

2. Necro – I love my Necros. So much that I have 2 :-P My personal overview for the class (for me this is) -

PvE – Good fun but can be slightly less desirable in some dungeon groups. I still run dungeons with mine and have fun. Very good in open world content.
WvW – Good in groups and large scale fights. I’m not very good at solo roaming on mine but that could just be me.
PvP – Can be quite interesting depending on which build you run. I like to mess around with builds and weapons. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

Whenever i run around the map the green scaling number next to my rank constantly changes a dozen times a minute.. So why do i even have a rank if it means absolutely nothing?

Amongst all the hive-mentality attacks toward my argument, i have seen very few arguments that actually shed light on why this system makes more sense than the traditional the mmo system. Because quite simply it does not.

If the developers don’t see how contradictory it is to downscale players in a leveling game, then i am sure i will run into a hailstorm of other stupid developer choices as well (like their choice to incorportate sci-fi blue nano-teleports over the traditional riding of horses, or their choice of dividing players up into multiple map instances on a single server, or their choice to charge $30 for a mere server change)

So far i am level 15 and i have never been exposed to such mindless PVE quests in my entire life. All i have done so far is set traps in the woods, taken care of peoples farms, and escorted an ox shipment repeatedly. Playing this game is torture.

So you are right, i don’t think this game is for me

Well no worries. Best of luck wherever you end up. Usually we’d ask for your stuff but as you’re level 15 and have nothing of worth I think I’ll skip that this time.

Level scaling in PVE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: AdaephonDelat.3890

AdaephonDelat.3890

According to the wiki, the benefits of dynamic level scaling are.
1. High level characters are prevented from killing enemies too easily and depriving low level characters of rewards. (Yeah right, In all the mmorpgs ive played in my life.. Ive never had a level 80 stealing my lv1 squirrel kills. So i highly disagree with that “benefit” as those players have moved on to greater things)

2. Lower level content doesn’t become obsolete, and remains adequately challenging, even after a character has out-leveled an area. (whats the point of even traveling if i can get level 80 gear in the begginer zone? Sounds like a pretty desperate attempt at recycling old content to me)

1. Level 80’s do play in low level zones. I have 12 level 80 characters. Some of them have never set foot in some of the starter zones so if I decided to do mapping on those characters I’d need to go into those low level zones. Also if I’m helping lower levelled friends to level up then it’s better that I’m level appropriate and not nuking everything in sight. Admittedly I still do nuke most things but not as much as if I wasn’t scaled down. Oh yeah and there are 4 world bosses in low level areas. Every now and then I like to hop on the World Boss Express so if you had 25 level 80’s all at level 80 hitting a world boss I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t last long enough to be worthwhile.

2. Because the gear you can get there is not the top notch best gear. Most of that is crafted and you simply can’t get the materials in the low level zones. Above I mentioned mapping. To craft a legendary weapon you need to get 100% map completion and earn the “Gift of Exploration”.

Been back a few weeks now and so far having a great time. Then I get a few drops, Black Lion Chests, “Oh cool, where do I find some keys to open these?” Turns out gotta buy them with gems….yuck my gameplay has been directly mixed with a storefront. (In a small way admittedly). Anyhow, now I just throw the Black Lion Chests in trash, treat them as zero value junk as it appears most do.

Sorry to go a bit off topic but this bothered me slightly. Yes the quickest way to get keys is to buy them from the gem store. No you do not need to pay real money for them. You can convert gold into gems and you have your key. Key’s also drop from the following -

Personal story rewards for completion of -
The level 10 racial story.
Setting the Stage (level 40)
The Battle of Claw Island (level 60)
Other -
Small chance from the reward for map completion, except for city maps.
Very rare chance from Daily reward chests
Extremely rare drop from foes.
Extremely rare drop from Black Lion Chest (this probably affects you the least)

Also instead of just dumping them sell them on the TP. Sure it’s only a few copper but if you’re getting lots of them then it’ll add up to a few silver over time.

Please help me learn melee

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: AdaephonDelat.3890

AdaephonDelat.3890

What weapon sets are you using? I actually found melee to be easiest on Ranger due to the amount of defensive skills you get on your weapons.

Here’s a quick idea of the skills you can use

Sword (it may help to turn the Sword Auto attack off. I found it much easier to control when I did) -

Skill 2 – Hornet’s Sting + Monarch’s Leap. Hornets sting is an evade backwards. Be careful not to jump off a cliff.
Skill 3 – Serpent’s Strike. Evades to the side of the target.

Dagger -

Skill 4 – Stalker’s Strike. Similar to Serpent’s Strike. If you use Sword/Dagger you’ll have 3 evades quickly at your disposal.

Greatsword -

Skill 1 – Third attack in the chain (Power Stab) is also an evade so just using auto attack you get an evade every 3 attacks
Skill 3 – Swoop. Swoop evades whilst leaping at the target.
Skill 4 – Counterattack. Using this skill once and you’ll block one attack and knockback your foe.
Skill 5 – Hilt Bash. Dazes (or Stuns if you hit from behind) your foe interrupting their attacks.

Axe -

Skill 4 – Path of Scars. This attack is a pull and can interrupt your foe.
Skill 5 – Whirling Defense. This skill will reflect projectiles directed towards you.

Non weapon evade skills -

Lightning Reflexes – Evade backwards (like Hornet’s Sting). Once again be careful not to jump off a cliff.

The main thing is knowing when to use these skills and that comes with recognising tells. For example Melee Centaurs (Tramplers etc.) rear back a little bit before they leap forward knocking you down. If you recognise the attack you can easily dodge otherwise you’re gonna eat dirt.

Message me in game sometime and we can try to get some dodging practice in.

Welcome aboard :-)
SFR can be a boring choice, but it is a WvW dominator. I don’t think you’ll get to experience losing in WvW large scale all that often, which is not necessarily a bad thing however ^^

What do you mean by a boring choice? Isn’t Megaserver suppost to make all the servers seem like one?

I think Evalia was referring to WvW as opposed to PvE. But yes in PvE megaservers make it so you’re playing with people from all different servers (although it does try to prioritise home server, friends list and guild when joining maps).

Scylla – a sea monster from Greek mythology

Scylla is a female so unless Abbadon underwent a sex change during the transformation to a dragon that won’t work. As the op eluded to I think it will be a cross of various names to form a new one altogether with roots in real lore.
Shedim (Daemons that have said to been descendants of sea serpents.) sounds feasible.

I appear to be missing something. Abaddon changed into Steve?

Sinuare seems cool. Personally I prefer Steve though.

Some other sea creatures from different cultures could have affected it’s name like -

Scylla – a sea monster from Greek mythology
Sisiutl – a mythological creature from indigenous tribes of the Northwest pacific (according to wiki I’d never heard of him)

You know you can counter the fear and knockback with skill 5 on the ‘zooka/flamethrower right? Or just use stability. But skill 5 (flame shield I think it’s called?) will also negate all damage from the Claw’s attacks.

Think I need to buy a new account just to put this in perspective again, but I am pretty sure that it REALLY is not that bad, and just like every other change that people find even the slightest bit inconvenient are just raging for the sake of raging and because they can not rush through their alts anymore.

Why buy a new account? Just create a new character and try it.

I’m guessing because the new account won’t have access to the gold/skill points and any benefits that previously levelled characters can provide

Whoa.

A nodachi is not pandering to a Chinese audience. That’s a Japanese sword. It’s like saying including a cowboy hat is pandering to British players.

(If cowboys invaded Britain in WW2 and beheaded a bunch of people with their hats, which I’m pretty sure didn’t happen, but if it did I apologize for historical insensitivity)

Fun fact: The Chinese used curved swords too. Say hello to the Miao Dao (Sprout Blade)

… my god, man. It’s a nodachi. You’d have to be blind not to recognize the design as anything other than a nodachi. You couldn’t have done worse if you showed me an image of a saber and tried to tell me it’s a katana.

Sorry I have to agree with Pandaman here. I’m not an expert but do enjoy reading about some Japanese history and looking at some of the weaponry. The Belinda Greatsword is in my opinion a Nodachi. You could argue that the grip is not long enough (true Nodachi grips are quite long) and thus it is just a large Katana but I’d still argue that it’s Japanese and not Chinese.

There’s something similar available for overwolf. They ran a competition with Anet a little while ago and one of the apps submitted was called “Markers”. I’ve not used it but looks like it does something similar to what you want -

I
Guild Wars 2 on the other hand does really poor job at selling useful things:

And yet Guild Wars 2 does make enough money in order for ArenaNet to avoid a rather massive layoff involving all other studios owned by NCSoft.

Not sure this is a fun commend or not.

At least you can’t be serious.

The only reason why A-Net is still alive is that they let almost everyone go and
outsource as much as they can.
That also explains why GW2 as a product looks so disconnected from the customers
or their former glory.

I’m guessing lordkrall was referring to this news from the other day –

I’m guessing you’re in a starting area? If so then yes the trading posts have been removed from there but they are still available in any town (and a few maps have some knocking around).

Are you NA or EU? I’d be more than happy to help you out when I’m online next which will probably be this evening (around 7 pm UK time).

EDIT – you ninja’d in before my post so yes they have been removed from those zones. Just go into Divinity’s Reach or Hoelbrak and you’ll find them)

talking of graveyards. I had an event once in shaemoor where I had to escort a woman who then transformed in to a woman in white and tried to eat my face but I’ve never managed to get the event again

That particular event only occurs at night (as far as I’m aware). Try going in there at night and you should be able to repeat it. Assuming it’s still there of course.

Here’s the wiki link for ascended – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ascended

To answer the questions quickly – Yes ascended is better than exotic but I think the difference between full exotic and full ascended is about 10% increase overall. The only place you really need ascended gear is in Fractals of the Mist, pretty much everything else can be done in exotics.

I generally find people in game are helpful but if you’re not having the same experience then it may be worth looking at joining a guild that is willing to help new or returning players. Check out the Guild Recruitment forum or put up a post in the Looking for Guild forum.

I’m assuming you mean Breachwater Waypoint in Diessa Plateau? If so walk southeast to the portal.

Or go to the Black Citadel and head east. You’ll hit it eventually.
