"Suggestion" GW2 Dueling updated

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aenesthesia.1697

. I dont see why some people dont want dueling in gw2. It’s a feature present in most mmorpgs and not an issue in any of them.

It would add something to do, it would add more options for roleplay, it would be fun.

It cannot be more abused than the chat, so if you dont want any sort of abuse in this game, please ask anet to erase the chat and other players, while you are at it.

Or we can leave WvW out of map completion altogether, as has been requested thousands of times.

Or, you can try and actually play the game like it is intended to, form a group and siege the fortress so you finally get your vista.

You can even request help in map. Sometimes, wvwvw can feel a little pointless and helping a guy get 100% completionmay give some thhe little kick they need.

1 on 1 i dont have problems with any class unless the other guy is a better player, in which case he could beat me with just his mini.

For unfair fights, i hate fighting 2 mesmers and, the icing on the cake: two rangers. What with being thrown around and burst to death in no time.

Especially that last sentence irks me. I respect your opinion, but please do not state this as a fact, if you want to be viewed as a reasonable person. A game like Guild Wars 2 is a way to reach out to those “some people”, just as going to a concert, drinking in a bar, organizing events, volunteering, fixing stuff, you name it. You might view it as being less valuable, but that is subjective, and I do not agree. This is my opinion.

I am happy to spend time running dungeons with guildies a few evenings a week, and that would not be possible of our guild master nor several other members invested time in this game. So they give my life a measure of quality I would have had to search for elsewhere otherwise. Would I have found it? Who knows.

Well., this being an internet forum, i assumed that what every one of us is exposing are just opinions. Stating that before every post would be rather annoying but yes, it is my opinion and yes, i might be wrong.

And as for you statement, going to concerts, bars, is of course ok for the social aspect and the fun but, if you only go to concerts and bars, you are missing many things in life. Yes, even people with strong dissabilities miss a lot in life if tey just watch tv or play games. Specially if they CAN play games, then that means there’s so much more they can do.

If you really bought an outfit, and not a design, you can use it with every character in your account. Just go to the outfits tab, select the outfit you want to wear, click on the check box to show it, and you are done.

No transmutation charges needed.

This game is a way of life for me, and I know I can’t be the only one who feels this way. If I was not meant to live in the world the way most do, I praise ArenaNet for giving me another world I could live in and be a valuable member of, in which I am no longer invisible to the world.

This… can’t be wrong.

While you have my sympathy, I cannot agree with you.

It’s obvious that you were not given the same opportunities in life as most people.

The fact is, no one was.

We all have our limitations, the things that hold us back. Some have it tougher, many have it easier. And there are many ways in which we can all become a valuable member in this world, not necessary for the whole world, but at least for some people. Escaping to other worlds, artifially made, is not one of those ways.

Games can be a good way to make friends, to compete, to develop social skills, to develop leadership, to train the brain, your reflexes, relax, have fun, and whatever. They can even provide you with the money to sustain a family, which is trascendent per se.

But helping an artificial guy in Shaemoor has no trascendence at all. No more than watching a tv show does.

Helping guys in Tyria is just some escape, which you surely need (and i am not even willing to question how much of that you need, you surely know better than I do), but nothing else and, for other things, I am sure you can do better than that. (an i, in no way, mean to tell you how you should live your life)

1) Ctrl – Shift – H
2) Press left mouse button and rotate
3) Zoom in
4) Press Print Screen

Why add something that’s already here?

yeah, but that gives you:

1) no close up choice.
2) zero or close to zero composing options, as you cannot play with the camera on the Y axis (x so so, as you can adjust that a bit in camera settings, though it is just awkward to do that while taking a pic)
3) zero chance to get a picture of a landscape whithout your character in the center spot.

So no, it wouldn’t be adding something that’s already here.

Which Class Would You Recommend ?

Ranger: easy mode for pve thanks to the pet. Still useful for dungeon runs thanks to the unique Spotter and Frost Spirit buffs. Pretty mobile thanks to greatsword 3 or sword 2 (that one is a bit clunky to use as a mobility skill). Funky animations with the sword and greatsword, nice clothing choices. I don’t like it for spvp but 2 rangers in spvp can make your day a nightmare. I use mine for wvw dailies thanks to the mobility and the ability to kill entire camps without help (with my warrior I get trashed, but I don’t play the warrior too much anyway).

Necro: Decent and fun spvp. Very handy in WvW though i don’t like it due to the lack of mobility (not really an issue in zergs). Immortal in PVE but is the only class that doesn’t bring anything to the party except for damage, and it’s not the best at it, i would advise to avoid the necro if you want to run dungeons (not because it’s bad, but because it’s so poor when compared to other classes).

Engineer: perma speed boost for a ver smooth leveling. Very versatile. Lots of choices for weapons (kits, actually), big old bomb rocks. Decent might or invisibility stacking for the whole party. highly damaging range skills with grenades. Probably the best vulnerability stacking of all classes. Great for PVE. For spvp, there is the kitten easymode turret build, but be a pal and use this one instead: http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Engineer_-_Celestial_Rifle
So mobile that WvW should be at least less frustrating if you die, but i haven’t tried it yet for that.

Elementalist: great for sPvP. Very mobile so at least should be a good roamer in WvW. In pve it’s made of thin paper, so you will die often till you master it (i am still strugling, it’s my newest character), but then, oh boy, this one tears through enemies like 4 necros would, and it does so while providing might and heals, together with highly damaging weapons for all the party.

true action base combat

Aenesthesia.1697

Probably not. There were a couple of mods that turned GW2 combat closer to what you see in TERA, for example, but Anet ruled that any such mods would be grounds for account suspension if anyone was found using them.

I would also love to be able to play GW2 with a controller, but as there are no console versions planned, I don’t think it’s coming either.

No they did not, the current mod is called ICM, immersive combat mod. It breaks none of ANets usage rules, and is used by tens of thousands of players, and none of which have ever been banned, including Woodenpotatoes the streamer they invited to host pax with them last weekend who uses it on air and publicly recommends it.

Interesting. Can you point me to the mod’s current download location? I’ve wanted to try it myself, but haven’t dared in fear of being banned.

Yup, the guy who made it doesn’t play anymore, and so doesn’t update it anymore. But it still works find and can be found here.

Sure it works? i just downloaded it and it does nothing. -_-

The only reason people think Tera’s combat is better is because of the crosshair. Other than that, it’s more static in it’s combat.

It’s more tactic in its combat. Of course it locks you in place when you swing your giant polearm while jumping in the air and of course no, it cannot be cancelled. Tera’s combat relies not on hitting all the time, but knowing when to hit and how.

I personally prefer Vindictus’s combat, much more dynamic than Tera, but with the same philosophy.

GW2 combat is sort of ok, but just a mod that permanently clicked on mouse R would be a big improvement in quality of life.

Bring Back Holy Trinity

Aenesthesia.1697

Gw2 was my second mmo after Lotro (I was playing lore master there,support/crowd control/debuff you can understand what is my play style) and I experienced worse dungeon system here which are skip trash and push boss to a corner, dodge zerk, dodge zerk, dodge zerk… really no strategy…etc Whatever it is called “Holy Trinity” We need more roles, tactics out of just zerk.

No. Just, no.

The fact dungeons are underwhelming has nothing to do with the absence of a holy trinity, just with the developer’s lazy design (sorry, but it’s lazy: a boss that just stands there doing nothing for 10 minutes is as lazy as it comes).

If we had the trinity, dungeons would still be terrible, but only with the trinity thrown in.

What you really want is better dungeons. That can be done without changing one of the pilars of design for this game.

GS Playstyle and Necromancers...

Aenesthesia.1697

Necros need to be up there with other classes when it comes to group utility but, by their nature, they cannot bring positive buffs (not very consistent with the necro’s background).

So they are left with: weakness, blinds, retaliation?, chills, and some funky traits like one foot in the grave.

This would be my dream weapon:

1: 4 attack chain.
First and second just regular attacks, third is area weakness (many stacks) while your character spins with the blade (rooted), the fourth is a blast finisher that deals strong damage and stuns, as the necro crashes everything with a mighty blow (also roots the necro). Knowing when to execute this whole combo is crucial for the necro, as being rooted with attack chain 3 and 4 can mean death in some circumstances.

2: after successfully pulling out the 4 attack chain, you can use this skill to drain life from any stunned foe. Doesn’t work with non stunned foes (an issue against defiance? don’t know if they are immune to stuns) Has to be balanced as to not turn it into a lackluster skill like dagger 2.

3: teleport/avoid skill: tap to make the necro leap forward or backwards. Double tap to make the necro leap, and then teleport. Do it while moving and it teleports in the direction it was moving. Do it while being still, and it backs off (like the dodge works). Can be chained with skill 4

4: half a spin that causes area weakness (less stacks than the attack chain)

5: your pick! im just lazy. A blind? a circle of minions? (raises a minion for any foe that crosses or dies within the circle) a Retaliate similar to axe #3? area chill (we have a trait for that, so… probably not needed)?

The idea would be to have the gs as the main source of weakness. It would also be the most effective weapon against groups, but not single targets. Ideally, you would want to cast locust swarm, swap to GS, engage with #3+#4, drop the WoS, do a whole #1+#2+#5 (the last one being situational) rotation, and then swap back to dagger/wh for dps, and move back to GS on cooldown for more weakness.

There you have it, anet, and I work for free!

Selling on the LFG

Aenesthesia.1697

People that are selling dungeon runs are inviting people to their group to do so. Thus looking for a group of players willing to join and pay for the run. They are not using the LFG tool as a grey market.

ok, so i can make a COF 1 run and after we kill the Efigy, the party gets to bid for a precursor. How cool is that?

Anet being overzealous about trading and the TP is really shady. They could have implemented a mailing system that allowed for scamless transaction, but decided to cheat players out of their hard earned gold. that’s not cool at all.

Is a Guild Wars 2 MOBA possible?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aenesthesia.1697

Aenesthesia.1697

I haven’t played smite but i have many hours of DOTA 2 and i don’t see how this game would work in a similar environment. Seems to me that the skills of heroes in MOBAS are way more inluential than the skills GW2 gives us, so GW2 doesn’t allow for OP moves, which is what MOBA rush is about (successfuly launching a devastating combo)

I on the other side, don’t see a problem with the leveling, as it is still a fair game for all players: all start the same, and advance according to their progress in the same match.

Build diversity is another thing: you don’t have much in GW2. And the only thing you really adapt would be the utilities you take. Pretty shallow in my opinion..

The new stronghold system seems to be some sort of moba map, let’s see how it plays out.

Are necromancers still bad?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aenesthesia.1697

Necromancer is THE single class not used in organized group play. Nothing in that regard has changed since launch

Any reason… why none of that has changed? Seems odd to let something flounder that long.

Necros cannot buff the party in any way, and their tricks like area blinds, chills, cc, dont work well against bosses (if at all). So you end up with a class that isnt the top tier in damage, and doesnt contribute anything to the party. Any other class can do it better than necros, sadly. (Talking about pve only)

"No-grind philosophy"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aenesthesia.1697

Aenesthesia.1697

No grinding to have BIS gear , Grinding for Skins (Which is Legendaries and Dungeon rewards) is how they keep you busy and is not required , Which is why they are grindy. Ascended give a small stat increase so I suppose that can be considered grindy. But not that much a increase

No game requires you to grind. You dont like raiding? Dont do it, you wont need the gear anyway. You like raiding? Do it, you will suck at first but you will get your drops from raiding and keep up with the content you are playing.

Non-berserker builds should be more rewarding

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aenesthesia.1697

Aenesthesia.1697

I dont think the zerker meta is lazy. You need group buffs and proper combo blasting. If you dont have that, you end up dead.

Condi builds on the other hand dont favor teamwork, as no group buff increases condi damage or duration.

Any build that is not zerker non sinister or rampager shouldnt output as much damage, as you are trading damage for survaivability.

So it comes down to direct damage vs conditions and yes, condis suck. Condis dont scale with team work, and dont deal as much damage vs single target.

And the only way to fix that would be to nerf zerker, of course, nerf ferocity, as condi buiulds also rely on crit but not for the damage, and nerf power, which they will do in the next patch.

Still, you will not see 2 condis in the same dungeon run, unless it’s random.

Sounds like your the one with the issues. If you were on the fence, how does that apply to you?. Unless you were the naysayers. And by the way, most x-pac are like LS – things that continue with the story. And ‘abit beefed up’, wow that is an understatement. This confirms you have an issue – of being proven wrong. But instead of admiting and eating humble pie. You refuse and say ‘ha this is just another LS’.

I dont need to admit anything. Like i said, i never denied there was an expansion on the works. I never cared for an expansion, though, because I just seriously doubt the developers who have made this game how it is now can do something that would justify an expansion (worth spending money on) pvp wise, the new mode they announced is a shift towards pve, not an improvement of what we already have. Pve wise, they havent announced any dungeon or raid. Give a gs to my necro? How cool! Will the gs make the flesh golem attack the enemies and not just watch me die?

Oh, but i do have issues, against people talking about iserable defeats and laughing on other people’ s faces because they were wrong. Well, if that’ s all the satisfaction life can give you…..

Well, clearly they couldn’t.

The fact ArenaNet is making an expansion is the best proof of how flawed the Living Story concept was. The “novel” way of adding content to a MMORPG has been forced to give place to the good, old expansion system.

No. Actually, the only flaw of the living story was that they couldn’t charge or felt they shouldn’t charge for it.

Now, we are going to get season 3 plus a few shinies, and they are going to charge us for what we could have got for free.

someone mentioned it and he sent me back in time to my dota2 days: there’s no kick in succesfully launching a combo or a skill. I guess it has to do with how inconsequential all skills are (compared to mobas, where the right skill atthe right time can wipe the enemy team), and their low cd which makes missing or hitting just an incident.

It’s like GW2 would be basketball while Dota2 or LOL would be Footbal. Sure, basketball can be fun, but it’s just a long attrition game and the team that fails more attack opportunities looses. The real joy comes when the match is decidedin the last seconds (that also happens in GW2).

Footbal, on the other hand, is slower, even boring at times, but then you score and it’s like WOAAAAHHHHH OMG EAT THAT MOTHERKITTENERS!

It’s not even what other players tell you.

It’s what i see when i play.

I used to play hybrid necro, until i found that warrios deleted the mobs before i could build the 25 stacks of bleed on them.

Then i switched to power necro after the soft cleave for dagger was implemented. I thought: now you are going to see my rage!!

But the real thing is, i cannot even bring to the group even 50% of what an elementalist can. Period. After a few speed runs with elementalists, i created one and retired the necro to pvp and open world instead. What does that tell you?

Games used to be about challenge. People didnt complain about games being too difficult back then as it was normal to force players to improve.

And then there are people, that really think that games are about having fun.

But in MMOs there always are those people that think a game has to be “hard work”
and that killing a hard mob in an MMO is just the same as climbing Mount Everest.

Sorry, but you are completely missing the point.

We are not saying: ‘this game should punish you for playing’. Or ‘this should be hard work’. We just feel dumb watching a half baked story in a screen that ocassionally requires us to hit key #1 or f. That is really, REALLY LAME. And most of this game consists of just that. The first time i beat twilight arbor i wanted to get my minutes back, what with standing still spamming 1 for 5 minutes?

So, yes, season 2 brought a few more challenging instances. Probably frustrating if you don’t even bother to read what your enemies do. But it’s just a small challenge! step up! beat it! you don’t have to play for 20 hours to beat any of these instances, and even the achievements are relatively simple to get (and way more fun than the champ trains) . Actually, the last encounter is what I would call ‘having fun’ in a video game. The brainless #1 spamming is the opposite.

You also have to consider how the gamer demographic has changed as well. It’s not just for kids and ‘no-lifers’ any more. Most of us simply don’t have the time or inclination to play a game over and over until we get it right.

All extremes are bad.

This game, generally, has you pressing 1 like you would turn the page in a book.

Nothing bad with that, except that in a book, it’s all about the story. If the story is dull, you drop it.

In this game, the story no way near what a grade D book would have, so we need more than 1 to keep turning the page. If turning the page feels like an achievement, then we can keep on despite the lackluster reward of yet another dumb page. If it does not, we drop the book.

The new content is a bit more complex (meaning, for example, that the golem you were going to delete had retalation and deleted you insted), but not so much as to require hardcore skill. Just read the description of your targets to see what they do, or what buffs they have, and then adjust your strategy accordingly.

You may need to stop damage for a few seconds.

It may be advisable for you to change this or that trait.

You may even need to read somewhere how people are doing it (happened to me with episode 8, where I couldn’t figure out how to kill the small shadows)

But difficult, it is not. Just a tad more varied, a bit more spicy, and definitely a lot more fun than pressing 1 ad infinitum.

Actually, yesterday i completed the last 3 achievements of the Living story and it was probably the most fun I had in these 2,5 years playing GW2.

Difficult? a bit. Punishing? Not at all. Fun? You bet!!!

I don’t know why people complain about verbal abuse from other players. I very rarely see that.

The reasons i hate PVP?

- Terrible matchmaking: one day you rip through enemies and the next you get destroyed by pro teams. Isn’t there any middle ground?

- stupid minion AI. i play as a necro, and cant believe that, after 2 years and a half, anet still hasn’t fixed at least the flesh golem. Not only does it stand there not doing anything many times, it also doesn’t use his only skill when told to more often than not.

- game modes: the capture the point system should be one of the options, not the only one. the slight variations in each map are not enough to detract from the fact that you are still capturing points all the time.

- lag: i have 100MB internet connection. I was able to play WOW without a problem. Now with this game? perfect play is impossible. The same stupid lag i have with musical instruments (that makes it impossible to play anything unless you are deaf or switch the volume off) is present in pvp. Many skills don’t fire at all due to this. Frustrating.

- randoms: i play ranked arenas with random teams. This, of course, is suicide most of the time. But the worst is when people don’t attend to reason. Last match, i went to capture the home point, and 2 seconds later 2 more guys came and stay there to cap the point. WTK? that’s just a small example. I understand, though, that i myself might be not as good as other people who play with me would like, so this point is actually the less important.

Holy Trinity Question

I’ve been told that essentially the only three professions that are viable in the game are Warrior, Guardian, and Elementalist. Everything else is a nice to have instead of a need to have.

I assume you are talking about pve only. If that’s the case, every class is viable, specially for the regular dungeons (that present little to no challenge, so people speed clear them setting the timer as the only challenge)

In that case, in my ideal group i think i would carry one elementalist, a ranger, an engineer, a thief and a warrior. That way, you have weakness galore, might stacking, buffs that sum up intead of overwriting themselves, and insane damage. Dungeons can be cleared very quickly this way, with bosses lasting a few seconds only. Notice how out of these five classes, only one is heavy armored, and we take the warrior for the buffs and weakness stacking, not for his tankiness (which he doesn’t have, as berserker).

All classes are capable of dealing decent damage (but only the elementalists are capable of OMFG damage), and what makes them better suited for dungeons is what they contribute to the rest of the group. Necros, for example, deal excellent damage, but have nothing to share with their team, so they are a liability more than an asset in speed clears.

Pvp is another issue, and i’d say all classes are viable. I have a lot of fun with my power necro, even though i get thrown around a lot (necros don’t have much in the way of stability).

And since their defensives are based on evasion and general prevention of damage, defensive stats have much less value. In opposite, example, for Necromancer.

Is it a bad thing? Yea. But it’s been in this game for so long that I doubt we’ll see any shift in here. If you want to play other zerk build, you have to have tools to deal with thieves and mesmers. All.

Sure? I don’t know, maybe I am still too noob but, as a zerk necro, thieves are the class that gives me less trouble (1 on 1), they just break against my retaliation, wells, and locust swarm, and i can even reach them when stealthed thanks to death shroud 4 and sigils of fire and lightning.

Good mesmers are another thing, though: the really experienced ones take too much time to kill and get help from their thieves.

Browse through the forums for a while. They did this because a lot of the complaints regarding not feeling like they are the hero, like the NPCs take too much credit, etc etc. Some people think they absolutely must be the center of the universe. That is why this is done, imo.

It was probably done due to that. But they surely overdid it. It’s completely awkward to walk around receiving flattering praise for everyting you do. That’s been the case throughout ls season 2 and part of 1, but this finale was embarrassing. It’s like they have a warped understanding of player’s needs:

- Players want better loot? let’s fill their bags, bank and pockets with tons of useless junk!

- Players feel upstaged by an annoying character? (i think the main complaint was that trehearne is just annoying, not that he upstaged us so much): let’s probably kill that mean character and treat the player like he is the only son of a sterile couple.

- Players want challenging content? let’s give them events that can only be played at certain hours so they will not probably be able to play at all and, if they do, then the event requires to coordinate 100 people and, if they manage to do so, then the event will bug so they cannot complete it. Eat this challenge, suckers!

It’s like an evil genie in a bottle, that comes out and gives the guy very twisted versions of what he wants.

being the best?

Being the best means being better than other players. That, in this game or in any other game, doesnt have anything to do with armor. Ive known people in wow with great armor and very poor output, and people with mediocre armor and great output (i cite wow because it’s often referred to as THE gear treadmill).

The only way to know if you are the best is to compare what you do with other players around you. I can farm like no one i’ve yet met and people tell me so when i go on my farming sprees. But i suck at speed clearing dungeons because i main a necro that doesnt contribute much to boost team damage (eles leave me crying)

Ive met people that can make a fractal run a very smooth experience thanks to their understanding of the content and their quickness to adapt.

Ive met people that know everything there is to know about events like teqatl or the x3 wurm, and they can mobilize and organize a bunch of people to beat these events.

Ive met really good commanders in wvw, that run armies with scouts and many specialised people, that know their strengths, and the other team’s and know when to engage in combat and when to retreat

You can also become really good in spvp, as part of a team (havent had the pleasure yet) or as a wildcard that knows how to read a match and knows when to steal a point or when to sneak past enemy defenses and kill the enemy lord. This is the most rewarding accomplishment ive experienced so far, as you can tip the balance of an unbalanced match just by knowing what to do despite being owned in direct fights.

Almost none of this requires that you get a better armor, you just need the correct set of stats and that’s it.

But, gw2 is a cooperative mmo at heartso being the best, specially for pve, is something irrelevant. Or not, you are the best when you know how to contribute better than anybody else.

Enjoy the game!

Making new chars as a Veteran of the game

Any other vets find the NPE and trait changes so off-putting that they just can’t make new characters anymore and struggle to keep interest in any character made after April 15th in general?

I have 2 characters in that position that I’ve been working at getting the traits for just to see how bad it is and still having to end up forking over gold for about half of them, and the other, I haven’t even bothered with. I deleted an old character because I decided I don’t like Charr for that class and now I just have an empty slot (on top of my already empty keyfarming slot) and every time I think it might be nice to make a new race/class combo for fun.. I remember the NPE and trait changes.. and change my mind and log out instead.

So they’re just 2 barren slots. Can’t get refunds on them, and I just can’t see myself making a new character and slogging through the new trait system much less all the level gates of the NPE again.

I created an elementalist hottie. Used a 20lvl up scroll on her, and now im just roaming the maps from wp to wp and skill challenge to skill challenge. I just run from point a to b only talking to the npcs and completing events, which is nice to kow the land and its people. Ill eventually use the 30 tomes i have and the ones ill eventually get from spvp and, after hitting 80, ill decide what to do with the missing traits, depending on what i end up using the ele for (spvp or speed clear pve)

So far, im having fun (but i skipped the first 20 levels of no skills, of course)

WoW's failure is GW2 gain

The problem with housing is it should be made instanced in order to give everybody a shot at it. Instanced content gets people out of e world, and anet wants people roaming the maps (as i do, too), oterwise the game would feel deserted.

But .. but .. there is all this endgame that we don’t have .. you know you can raid, and
then you can raid even more .. and after that .. what a about some raiding ?
Oh .. and don’t forget .. there is raiding !!

Yeah, like raiding is all the endgame in wow.

I find it pathetic when people try to ‘sell’ a game based on the content it doesnt offer.

Condition Damage in PvE Overview

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aenesthesia.1697

To the op: well thought and put, but i have some issues with this:

Direct damage requires 3stats to work: power, ferocity and crit rate. Meanwhile, condition requires only condi damage or damage plus duration.

So pure condition builds can get a defensive stat, with no tradeoff (well, right now there is the trade off of poor damage and zero damage against objects)

Pure condition should never output the same damage as a glass cannon. They should, at best, be able to sustain a decent damage whereas a glass cannon should worry about surviving and stop damage. The problem with that scenario, is that fights end so quickly that theres no need to avoid damage, so no use for condis in pve.

Hybrid builds are another beast. They are glass cannons, and dont have damage comparable to direct damage builds. I think it’s hybrids that need to be balanced against zerker, and some of the things you propose, like shorter duration of condis, put hybrids in an even tougher position.

What is the barrier to entry for this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aenesthesia.1697

Hi guys, I bought this game a couple of years ago and played for a little while before deciding it wasn’t really for me. At the time I just kinda wanted a more traditional ‘WoW clone’ with new races/classes to play. I wasn’t in the mood for a new learning curve.

However recently I’ve been thinking about giving it another try, and before doing so I usually have a quick browse of the forums just to try and get a gist of what the game’s about and I tend to get the impression that the game has quite a high barrier to entry.

On the one hand I often see people praise the fact that you can play any profession any way you like. But then I see a lot of posts that say certain profs or builds are undesirable or downright useless at parts of the game. Are these just the general min-maxers or do you really have to alter your (possibly preferred) playstyle to be useful at endgame? Is it okay to play how you want and have fun or will it hold you back when you try to do group content/WvW/PvP?

just to give you an idea, a couple of months after the game came out i got my first exotic armor from farming Citadel of Arah, which is arguably the most difficult dungeon, and by that time i was running a condition spec, which is now considered rubbish in pve (even by me)

So, there you go: you can farm the most difficult content with far from optimal gear and far from optimal build. That’s your barrier of entry.

For pvp it’s nonexistant, you can pick whatever gear/stat combination you want and find at least 2 working builds for each class.

Best Established MMO of 2014 - Guild Wars 2

Tentonhammer does still exist?

Well, what is their method of measuring this “best”?

Established MMO #1: Regained 4.000.000 subscribers with a single expansion this year. Looks like success to me.

Established MMO #2: Expanded to China with very limited success (being kind here) while just trying to keep the status quo in the West. Sounds not as successful as MMO #1 to me.

Logic? Tentonhammer is not good at it.

Or they don’t measure success based on advertising budget. Who’d have thunk it.

I have people in my guild who played the WoW expansion, found they had nothing to do because of how dumbed down WoW has become and they’re back here. Imagine that.

They can dumb down wow asmuch as they want and it will still be miles ahead of the autoattack fest this game is. The only challenging content this gameoffers is managing your inventory.

Question for those still doing dailies

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aenesthesia.1697

Aenesthesia.1697

Why?

Now that laurels are no longer tied to dailies it seems to me that there’s very little incentive to go out of your way to complete them.

I get two out of three in just one match of pvp (sometimes 3/3, if i feel adventurous enough to play with a class i don’t master), which i am playing regardless of dailies.

Then that leaves just one thing to complete the daily and get 10 AP!

- that thing can be: mystic toilet (log in LA, use the toilet, 1 minute max)
- get to one vista (log in close to the vista, go to the vista, click f, 1 minute max)
- do something quick in wvw, like killing a supply cart (what i did today and took me 2 minutes)

So it’s 10 AP for playing one pvp match i will play anyway, and doing something extra. The dumb thing would be to stop getting the dailies.

Sir Chan de Stroy, my attempt at a (circa 3rd crusade) Knight Hospitaller…he got lost on the way to Jerusalem, and ended up in the wrong Ascalon…

I just wish we had a decent bucket helm to play with…ascended was the best of a bad bunch.

hey, cool name, VERY nice outfit, and nice collage you got there!

p1: i think i finally like my warrior

P2: im not happy with female norn hips at all. I might do a gender swap, though the name change makes it very expensive. Problem with norn males is that i don’t like this armor in them either and i’d have to go for the cultural t3, that one looks sweet.

P3: ranger looks way too cool in this completely unoriginal set. But, what can i do? cool is cool no matter what. Belinda’s gs makes it even cooler.

Musical instrument restrictions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aenesthesia.1697

Aenesthesia.1697

The quote I used in my original post actually links to the exact topic there Anet confirmed macros for musical instruments is allowed. (Note: They are not allowed for anything that gives a player an unfair advantage of others!)

Also, this isn’t just an issue for instruments running macros but also for players playing by hand. Some instruments have a 1-second barrier between switching between pitches, meaning you can’t play a low note followed by a high note within a 1 second window. You also can’t play the same note twice within a one second period on other instruments. It varies a lot between instruments!

Oh, cool! Didnt know about that.

With instruments ive found that the lag i always find in pvp is also present in all aspects of the game. Playing a song is impossible unless you are not listening to it, or unless you have an uncanny talent to dissociate what you play from what you listen to. As ive played many other games and never found this to be a problem, i blame it on this game. Can somebody else confirm?

Retaliation - once per sec

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aenesthesia.1697

Aenesthesia.1697

Hi there!
How about to make a limit for retaliation? Let it can hit the same target only once per second?
Or let it will be affected by Toughness and Armor
Or let it will scales up from Condition damage (since it ignoring armor, like any another conditions), but not from Power.

Because it really sucks while playing with multi-hit-per-second classes, for example Flamethrower/Grenade Engineer. You are able to literally kill yourself in 2-3 seconds only using your own offensive skills and even not being hit by enemies!

Just look at the boons of the enemy you are attacking and save your grenade barrage for when he doesnt have ret!

If the damage was lower, it would become useless. The other guy also takes damage, you know?

Character Name Wipes?

Aenesthesia.1697

I suggest you become more creative in your naming because if you are running into a problem naming, it’s because you aren’t unique in going for the low hanging fruit of punny names or anime/TV/movie/book character “homage”. There are way too many Drizzts in too many fantasy MMOs already. Try harder.

Lol, there’s always that one person on the forums who makes baseless assumptions.

move along

What’s thebaseless solution? You came up with a name somebody else has already taken. That doesnt speak too well about your originality. On top of that, you request anet to wipe old accounts’ names so you can use your unoriginal name instead of coming up with sometng new? Many words come to mind, lazy being the first one.
