A few days ago I saw blue stream gw2, I have no idea is Blue gonna stream gw2 in the future or not. I mean if we can get blue and soda stream gw2 at same time, we can get twitch NO1 in no time. Anet really should get in contact with Blue, not to pay him or anything, just talk about pvp portion because he seems to be interested in that.

what’s nightblue? a new dye? does it have to be diluted in a stream of soda in order to work? What’s twitch and why are you interested in its nitrogen monoxide emissions?

no entiendo….

He’s a streamer, a pretty famous one, Challenger player on League of Legends, usually he have around 30k viewers

oh, thanks for the fill in. By streamer i understand you mean somebody who streams videos while he plays? I guess i amout of synch with this era….

That sheet hasn’t been updated for nearly a year. Warriors have since been nerfed and necros buffed. We’ve asked DeKeyz to update it but it’s a lot of work and I honestly don’t believe she wants to do it after every update.

It’s ok, I’m used to people not adapting very fast. Last time I had the unfortunate luck of having to pug I see people still stack everywhere, which makes no sense for a long time now. Oh well

EDIT: Don’t get me wrong, I fully agree a warrior is a much better class than necro for dungeons. It’s not even close. We’re discussing pure DPS number here.

This was from june, I think. Since then, nothing brought necro damage up for single target (they did almost double it for dagger trash packs).

And what’s bad about stacking? you get power from blasting fire fields, you get protection from that fractal hammer guardian, you get more damage from warrior GS3, staff ele #4, necro golem charge, you are all behind the same reflect wall, you can revive fallen comrades faster, etc, etc etc etc etc…

This is complete misinformation. Necro does NOT depend on conditions, is pretty OK DPS wise in pure power build, but doesn’t bring anything else. For a necro to deal comparable DPS to a warrior (which is possible) he will not bring anything else. Warrior will bring lots of group buffs AS WELL the DPS, hence he’s wanted more.

It’s not pretty ok dps. Necro dps without a warrior in the party is well below warrior dps.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bAcpwAdwB24CxK_Ziy8ygISUHCkQepLfRMh2_PtP52o/edit?pli=1#gid=1883199869

Warrior on the party: close to 10.000 dps
Necro in the party, no warrior: close to 7.000dps.

So warrior does +41% damage than necro, not counting the effect his boons have on the rest of the party. Even with a warrior and a ranger on the party, the necro cannot come close to warrior dps without ranger on the party. It’s sad.

Points according to my knowledge, and this criteria:

wvw zerg, wvw roaming, pve dungeon, spvp organized, spvp solo.

Thief: 2, 5, 3, 4, 4 (specially good for roaming as you can disengage, you die less)
Necro: 5, 1, 1, 3, 4 (for roaming, foes just escape and you cannot win. worst dungeon profession right now)
Elementalist: 5, 4, 5, 4, 4 (very versatile. part of many metas)
Mesmer: 3, 4, 3, 5, 3 (good for roaming and lethal in organized spvp)

OP

I don’t get why people say that holy trinity is bad. It is not. Period.

But, GW2

DOES

NOT

HAVE

HOLY

TRINITY

PERIOD

What turns people off is not the lack of holy trinity. It is how boring most of the pve content is. If the pve content was better designed, people would be too worried dodging, dpsing, running for their lives, and buffing the party to worry if there is a trinity or not.

But no, they suffer the dull pve encounters and then they look at what went wrong: i mean, wow did have piñata bosses in every patch, rigth? But to maximize dps in wow, you have to combine like 25 skills, while in this game you are left with autoattack plus 2-3 skills. This makes piñatas unsufferable. There’s your difference.

At the heart of every mmorpg playerbase, standing out is important.

Yes, but other more traditional mmorpgs make you stand out if you beat one hard aspect of the game.

In this game, standing out means you farmed for more hours, or you logged in at the correct time, or you spent enough money.

It’s like those people who appear in reality shows: yes, they get the limelight and their seconds of glory, but for what?

By the way, I got the wings because I liked them and they went well with two of my characters. Now my norn guardian doesn’t wear them because the wings hide some small areas in fractals, and the necro doesn’t wear them because it would be like screaming SHOOT ME in spvp.

Ah, and for the prize of the wings, i can buy some complete games. Come on, anet, you should have done better than a cardboard set of wings with so little movement. They look specially crappy when the character is runnning (and no, don’t interpret this as a request to make them flap constantly, that would be the most annoying thing i can think of).

So what do you do? Continue playing Necromancers? Have you switched classes?

I retired the necro to spvp, where i can have fun killing thieves and elementalists at will.

i leveled a warrior but didnt like it in dungeons.

Leveled an elementalist and am currently training doing cof. Has a very high damage potential, but if the group is bad, you are left with a really squishy glass cannon.

Oh, and after years of missing blast finishers and fire fields on my necro, i can’t believe how many people still don’t blast my kitten firefields.

GS/dagger concern

in Necromancer

Posted by: Aenesthesia.1697

Aenesthesia.1697

Hey guys!

To start with Idd like to point out that (as everyone knows) necros are bottom tier when it comes down to dps.
When the new greatsword weapon comes out there are two options for it to be:
1. Higher dps than dagger
2. Lower dps than dagger

Now this seems quite obvious, but there is a concern here.
In case 1 greatsword will ofcourse be better and give us a place, but what would we use dagger for then? Dagger seems to be mainly about dps in its current role. Will dagger be trash?
In case 2 we would still be waaay in bottom tier and greatsword would have some other roles hopefully.

Both cases do not seem very appealing to me. I personally love wielding a dagger, but I wouldnt if it doesnt have any purpose.
How do you think about this?

Greetings!

there’s a way out.

GS: better for trash packs (due to cleave). King of vulnerability stacking weapons (vulnerability seems to be the only ‘buff’ we can bring to the party). Also should come with a couple of blast finishers and mobility. A burst skill shot would also be great. (this cures many of the necro’s shortcomings in pve).

Dagger: Better sustained dps if there are 2 or 1 enemies only.

Focus: would lose it’s appeal in pve due to better ways of applying vulnerability via gs, and due to the almost useless #5 skill.

Warhorn: would be used together with dagger.

Rotation: wh5, swap to gs, close distance with mobility skill, do a vuln stacking, power building rotation (with the blast finishers) and burst, swap to dagger to dps the boss down.

i actually came up with what i would like here, but don’t know if anet was reading…

actually, a group of 5 necros shouldn’t be so bad. none of you can do anything good for the rest, but each one of you should be putting enough damage not to spend 40 minutes.

i think 66002 is much better than 62006

And yeah, i get your point, i save thousands of gold every day i don’t buy the precursors i want.

And if anet makes the gs a ranged weapon then i am considering quitting this game. Really.

People say farm for a legendary … so my two options as a ranger are a bow that shoots flowers or a different bow that shoots unicorns … really?

you have the greatswords or the sword which all look cool, i like those.

I’m really into collectibles, and it seems like there are just miniatures or skins. I haven’t seen one miniature in 2 months of playing this game and don’t even know where to get them

most of the miniatures have to be bought from the tp. I don’t like minis anyway.

I’ve spent none of my karma or laurels, because the gear I bought for 3g the moment I hit 80 is better

seriously? laurels should get you better rings, at least. Karma is indeed terrible for gear. anyway, save both for the legendary mats.

I’ve done a few fractals, they’re fun but don’t seem to have any story or rhyme or reason to them

there is a reason or story to each fractal, but the connection between all of them is a bit dumb. The are the most fun out of pvp you can have if playing solo. (though, to tell you the truth, i am finding it fun from levels 30 something and on… )

My gear sucks for PvP, I don’t understand the point of WvW, and as far as I can tell there are no raids or anything to work towards

Change your pvp stats and gear and stop sucking! adapting in real time to other player’s actions is a challenge no pve experience can provide. WvW is a bit pointless, but fun can be had from time to time. There are no raids (sadly), the only truly challenging pve content is a few dungeons and fractals.

Should I just quit?

I don’t think so, but do quit if you are getting bored. There are so many things to do out there….

Discussion: Why WOULD you want a necro?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Aenesthesia.1697

Aenesthesia.1697

I used to main a necro who is now retired to spvp. I use an elementalist for dungeon speed runs, and a guardian for fractals (for open world i may still use the necro, as she is the only one with 100% map completion).

For regular dungeons, i see no reason not to carry a necro. But i see no reason not to do it with 4 people only either.

For fractals, the necro doesn’t offer anything other than blinds. Very poor contribution to the team, made even worse by the fact necros have probably the worse pack fighting set of skills (limited cleave with dagger, conditions not doing anything to already dead foes, etc).

I would bring necros to fractals if they could add more support. I know that it seems against the class mechanics (the support thing), but maybe a special condition only necros appply, that increases the damage received by the foe in x%, a few blast finishers so we reach the might cap more easily, increased damage and a cleaving weapon that doesn’t make us unusable in trash fights.

For the second approach. The bare minimum to get me to not feel guilty about playing necro in PvE would be to give us more finishers, a projectile defence skill and more AOE control conditions such as chill and immobilise.

Weird of you to say that. The necro does have aoe chill (traited with chilling darkness). I use it when i want to troll players in spvp. (otherwise i prefer to auto troll myself with the flesh golem that watches as i get ripped to pieces not even charging when it’s told to)

People aren’t saying that bleed caps are the problem. But in order to fix the problem, the base mechanics need to change. Bleed cap was an example of one of those base mechanics.

ah, ok, but it would change nothing! So let’s say you can reach 100 stacks of bleed. What give? the boss will be dead before you are even at 30.

Aenesthesia.1697

Only condi build that can even remotely compete with dps builds is sinister engineer and even that only works in Molten facility and dredge fractal thanks to their perma protection.

And debating between a guardian and a necro is pointless. Guard can do way more a necro can ever do. Specialisation might change that to some degree but before that just say on your guard.

i know guardian >>> necro for any reasonably hard content. I mean, my worst guardian runs are a walk in the park compared to the worse runs i had with the necro (with no guardian in the party, of course)

But, for pure damage, don’t compare conditions vs berserk while hitting a sitting duck. Do it in a boss fight where you have to stop attacking to dodge, revive pals, cast whatever you need to cast, heal and generally running for your life…. while doing all those things, berserkers do 0 damage. Conditions meanwhile keep ticking and that’s why I ask if they are not superior in that situation.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Aenesthesia.1697

yup, i said it.

The problem with conditions is:

1- bosses don’t last long enough for conditions to do their thing.
2- the 25 bleed cap
3- not so great scaling with party buffs.

Well, i’ve been pugging fractals for the past month (levels 30-40), and i noticed that:

1- bosses do last long enough. Mostly, because people are afraid to melee them (i often melee the bosses with my guardian, only to be told to get away from the boss). Sure, bosses can one hit you but i melee only if i have aegis up. The rest of the party don’t do it, so they end up trying to burst a boss with direct ranged damage, which is far from optimal. Since we are all ranging and it’s not even `possible to keep dpsing the boss all the time because you are busy running for your life, doesn’t condition damage come in handy, ticking while you cannot hit?

2- as nobody runs condition builds, the bleed cap is a one man thing, and a properly tuned hybrid build should be able to output good damage till the bleeds drop again to 20.

3- sure. you get power, not condition damage, from party buffs, but again, when pugging, people rarely blast firefields, so this shouldn’t be such a big issue.

The only thing that keeps me from trying fractals with my sinister necro (wip) is how handy the aegis, stab and reflects from guardians are. The only reasonable utility my necro could bring would be the well of darkness for surviving the OP trash packs, but it looks pitiful when compared to the guardian.

To be honest the easier change would be to increase the bleed caps based on enemy rank.

Give Veterans, Champions, etc different bleeds caps.
This would not change sPvP at all while fixing a lot for pve.

But then again Anet did nothing for 3 years so its rather obvious that dont give a kitten about conditions for pve.

People still think the bleed cap is the problem with conditions?

No it’s not.

The problem with condition damage is that, by the time you reach the bleed cap, the boss is almost already dead. By the time your conditions run their full course, the boss is most definitely dead. If that is not the case, your group either lacks dps or you are doing high level fractals where it’s not always so easy to burst bosses down.

But, my necro would love to have these, together with Anise’s chest, and belinda’s gs (for when she finally gets to use gs).

As for people complaining about items being used by everybody, it’s what happens when some items are distinctively cool: everybody wants them. You don’t see hordes of warriors with the legendary mace not because it’s original. It’s because it sucks.

The only way to avoid having everybody use the same thing, is to have so many good looking things that people just go with their tastes and, even so, newly added items are always going to be overused (like belinda’s gs at launch, and now you barely see it).

by the way, isn’t there any web that allows you to preview items in 3d? wow had something like that…

Guild wars 2 moving towards the holy trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aenesthesia.1697

Aenesthesia.1697

With the introduction of a 6 second taunt on revenant, and class specializations, specifically druid ranger, I’m hoping anet is moving towards the holy trinity. This would open up so many more options for types of gameplay and builds.

If the move to trinity is one class that can taunt, then this is the worst move in all history. I mean, they stayed away from the trinity to avoid the: lf healer qeues, and now they introduce only ONE class that can tank?

I know anet started out not wanting a trinity but in reality, you need it in MMOs or everything will just be DPS-fest.

why is a dps fest worse than a trinity fest? when playing dps in wow, i didn’t have to heal myself, nor res other players, nor blast useful combo fields, nor protect other players. For a dps fest, this one is pretty varied.

To all that are going to say you don’t want tanks/healers, then you also can’t complain about everyone running zerkers and dps spamming through dungeons, because that’s what we got for not having a trinity.

the problem is that zerker is the only viable option, while this game offers more ways to do damage, only the developers made it really flawed. That won’t be solved by introducing the trinity. Stop trying to find solutions of other games to the unique problems of this game.

Dungeon speed runs - the dark side

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Aenesthesia.1697

Aenesthesia.1697

Generally speaking I think GW2’s designers have done a really good job of creating a pro-social play environment. Design really encourages players helping each other out.

Except for dungeons. I wouldn’t say my experience has been universally bad in dungeons. It’s generally been ok. But in terms of both frequency and severity, GW2 easily tops all other MMOs for dungeon nastiness.

There is a definite upside to being able to farm dungeons quickly for gold, fragments, tokens etc. But the downside is that there are a lot of very uptight and impatient players who have mega rage meltdowns at the slightest hiccup.

I was speaking to someone earlier in the week who was asking about the best ways to get gold in map chat and I naturally suggested dungeons. But they’d tried that and seen one of those meltdowns and were so not keen to see any more.

I think this aspect of the game’s design might need more thought.

there’s no dark side. If you joing a speed run group and don’tknow enough to do a speed run, and slow the group down, then you are going to be probably kicked or somebody is going to tell you to gtfo.

And they would be right.

Most of the pugs are not advertised as speed runs meta zerker or leave, and joining those groups you should be ok, as long as you warn them you don’t know the dungeon. There are some parts where somebody who doesn’t know what he is doing can really cause a mess. Saying it aloud so somebody can explain how the encounter works helps a lot, and people don’t mind explaining.

The only real dark side of speed runs is that they are boring. But it’s not the run’s fault. It’s the dungeon designed to be awful, and punish players for actually trying to enjoy it.

It all quite sad if you think about it, because Less is more.
Developers would not even need to grind their butts off and create personal stories and what not. Its irreleveant.
We need to go back to a more sandbox approach in MMOs where the players and world build themselves a story.

The only thing it really needs a little bit of background information you put into a wiki and then off we go.

I remember the time where clans made up their own stories and view of the world. Times where relationships expand beyond the border of the game, where you are a personality within the gameworld and you fullfill one certain role… and not play XY alt-characters by the side.. urgh.

I could continue on but who cares…

Wow! this so much! it’s just why i keep coming to mmos and end up dissapointed. This is why i quit WoW!

and probably the reason i am going to quit this game sooner or later.

even worse, mmos make for really crappy single player games. I remember playing assasin’s creed after quitting wow and thinking: omfg! this is so much better… and as a single player experience, it was.

Self Leveling too low, game play suffers!

No please. The low level areas are cool because the foes don’t die just by looking at them like in other mmos. And still, the really low level zones are dumbed down enough for a fully geared lvl80. I mean, my necro kills things with just two swings of her scepter, and thats in condition spec…

dungeons are indeed more difficult than open content and you have to step up to the challenge. most people however clear dungeons at an amazing speed. It’s not so difficult once you know what to do, both with your character and the dungeon.

this game doesn’t present too much difficulty. Just varying degrees of it. You can and will get better at it if you stick around.

Enjoy!

Gear inspection idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aenesthesia.1697

Aenesthesia.1697

So I know there’s people on both sides of the fence about implementing such a feature for good reasons. I’m not sure if this has been suggested before but:

Why not have a “inspect gear” checkbox?

If you have it toggled on then you can inspect other people’s gear if they have it toggled on. Other people who have it toggled on can also inspect your gear.

If you have it toggled off then no one can inspect your gear, and you can’t inspect other people’s gear.

This way people who care about gear have a better way of checking than pinging, and people who don’t won’t get harassed for their gear.

Thoughts?

i never saw the need for it. Not even while raiding in wow. If someone sucks, it’s easy to tell. if someone has mediocre equipment and wants help, he will ask for it. If someone has mediocre equipment and kicks kitten, it would be unfair to dismiss them because of their equipment. And, anyway, getting full exotics in this game is trivial. why the need for a gearcheck?

Problem with fractals is the teaming requirement. Dungeons are also PvE and we don’t get them as PvE dailies so why is it okay with Fractals?

The problem with teaming in this game, because it’s only required in Dungeons and Fractals, is that 90+% of teams forming are speed oriented because they have been running this content over and over and over again for the last two years. “Encouraging” players who don’t run these regularly is like sending rank amateurs up to team up with professional footballers (soccer) and the professionals don’t want these players on their team. They kick anyone who makes the slightest mistake, assuming they don’t kick you before it starts because of your choice in gear or outright discriminate against some professions.

Dungeons don’t make it to the dailies because it seems anet has dismissed the original dungeons and completely forgot about them. Fractals are the only instanced content they sort of care about.

as for your problems with teaming… not relevant at all. i’ve been getting into lvl 30 fractal pugs, with my guardian i still don’t control, after more than a year of not doing any fractal at all, and i’ve been dieing of course, and never got kicked nor received any negative criticism.

i mean, kitten happens, just not as often as some players would have you believe.

Legendarys Easier? what?

Legendarys are already too easy, why make them easier? These are supposed to be “LEGENDARY” weapons, not something handed out by walking around a few zones collecting stuff. They needed to increase the difficulty of obtaining legendarys. That or make Ancient Legendarys for those of us that actually want a challenge. Make them 5-10x Harder to obtain then current legendarys.

legendaries are just long term goals that can be achieved playing any way you want.

That is the opposite of hard.

You want them hard to get? How about putting the precursors as drops from a solo encounter against liadri and lupicus both at the same time, and you only get to that encounter after being the sole survivor in a deathmatch involving 100 players all against all? Also, you don’t get a second chance against liadri and lupicus, if you die, you have to wait 24 hours before you can enter the next deathmatch.

Imagine if we had something like Aion. 2 player’s faction and 1 pve faction. Or you are doing Teq and another guild shows up to gank you.

That would really, REALLY suck.

However, a flexible dueling system (1v1 or teams up to 20v20) in the open world (but outside main cities) would be a blast.

It would get the pvp out of the same boring maps/capture the point system, and out into the wild. And when you think you are going to get the kill, you accidentally aggro that champion that beats you to a bloody pulp.

I mean, wvw is a really flawed system, with two VERY unbalanced forces crashing here and there, resulting in the death of the weaker. Also, most of the time you just run around doing just pve and a very boring one at that. The dueling would put some fun back in pvp, and i don’t think it would bother pve only gamers at all if done correctly.

Berserker stat’d gear is overrated IMO. It provides a slight increase in DPS for a huge lack of survivability. You’re not going to lose the dungeon or PVP simply because you have slightly less power.

Incorrect. You can totally lose a 1vs1 in spvp because you didn’t have that extra damage needed to take the other guy down before his heal/block/whatever went off cooldown. So you don’t get to cap the point, you don’t score for your team, you lose. There are countless moments in spvp when everything comes down to a 1vs1.

Of course, for some classes, going full zerk means that they will get downed by those pesky thieves or mesmers, so it’s not a viable build for all classes but, for some classes and certain roles, it is almost mandatory.

Just imagine if you could set up dueling teams of up to 10, or 20 people. Anywhere outside the main cities. One team is the bandits and the other are the seraphs, or people protecting a convoy that goes from point a to b, or whatever, and they start spanking kitten till one team wins. Then they all go and have a beer in The Beginning of the End.

That would be awesome.

you might want to check out WvWvW

you might want to read the second part of my post where I said that no, WvWvW doesn’t provide that.

and no, don’t tell me there’s wvw for that. Wvw is as close to a fair fight as fighting a mountain would be, and you cannot go there rolepaying while the rest of your server is trying to score.

Because that’s worked in other games. lol

It totally worked in WoW.

And I was in a pvp server, which should mean constant testosterone overflow.

And no, thanks, i will not pay 15€ a month to duel here and there, I am not going back.

It is not ok to try to change this game into that one because you don’t wanna shell out the cash (or can’t have a glitter pony or all the other litter threads we see spammed by those that have left). Play how you want does not mean leave wow and try to fundamentally change GW2 into it.

Who says i want to change GW2 into WoW?

I just would enjoy a feature (or many, if you will) that worked well in WoW to be added to GW2. What’s wrong about that? if people enjoy the new features, great for them, if they don’t, ignore and be done with it.

Believe it or not, this isn’t the first MMORPG and almost anything you can think of has already been incorporated in other MMORPGS before. So, adding anything to GW2 would mean turning it into other MMORPGS?

If you are going to define your game by what it doesn’t have, then this game isn’t the evolution of MMOs, but the involution.

Besides, it’s not like they are going to stop trying to fix minion AI because of implementing dueling, after all?

You wanna duel? There is a button at the top of the screen that says PvP

The ONLY reason you want open world dueling is to pick on players who do not PvP or because you want to use your shiny PvE gear

PvP with people who want to PvP

No.

In pvp you have to fight 5 on 5 on the same maps all the time. Dueling is 1 on 1 (it would totally rule if it could be up to 10 on 10! think about the rp possibilities!) in open world.

The reasons for dueling? Do it anywhere, not in the mists only. do it for free, not paying gold to open a custom arena with an expiry date. More ways to interact with other people, i already explained i used to do it rarely and for role playing issues only.

For all i care, if someone doesn’t want to duel, he can have his duel mode off and automatically block invitations and whispers from people with the duel mode on or whatever)

Pvping with people that don’t want to pvp is not possible in dueling, it’s only possible in open world pvp, which this game doesn’t offer and will not offer and i am cool with that.

Is this a problem I believe devs can handle. Nope, I don’t. Any more than they can stop people from leeching at events, which also annoys the hell out of me.

hey, give the developers some credit. You are just one guy with your ideas of what could be done to make it work. They are a bunch, and it’s their job. They can possibly come up with any number of ways to keep all that unwanted testosterone from pouring into your world

Unfortunately, in my experience in games where open world dueling exists, it works something like this:

Badkitten: Invite to duel
Me: auto-decline
Badkitten: Invite to duel
Me: auto-decline
Badkitten: C’mon Wuss duel me!
Badkitten: Invite to duel
Me: auto-decline
Badkitten: Why won’t you duel?!? It’s because you know I’m gonna (insert expletive here) you.
Badkitten: Invite to duel
Me: auto-decline
Badkitten: Wuss. You’re worthless, you shouldn’t even be playing this game, what are you afraid of, having your pixelated butt land in the dust? DUEL ME!
Badkitten: Invite to duel
Me: Logout

Yeah, it could potentially happen, unless the game temporarily blocked someone who has invited you to a duel from whispering you for, say, 3 minutes.

Then it would work like this:

Badkitten: Invite to duel
Game: the user you are trying to duel with doens’t wish to be bothered
Badkitten: Invite to duel
Game: ask the user to toggle duel block off, if he wants to duel with you.
Badkitten: C’mon Wuss duel me!
Game: The user you are trying to reach is off line.

From your side it would look like this:

See?

I’m not really into PvP (sometimes I do, but I really such at it…) but lke you, I would like to be able to be a spectator and place bets. I would even try it out once or twice.

Hey, I don’t know if this helps, but everybody sucks at pvp when they start. I started playing this game for the pvp and then i discovered i didn’t enjoy it because i was never in control of the situation.

Then i realised it’s what makes pvp work. Sometimes you are in control, sometimes you are not. You get destroyed and ripped most of the time until you figure out which fights to pick, which ones to avoid, and until you get better playing your character to his strenghts so you can actually win the fights you do pick.

(I still suck, by the way)

Well, it seems i need to explain it a little more. Sorry, english is not my first language and probably it leads to my posts being misunderstood.

The way I see it, it’s perfectly understandable that you have your gripes with dueling. You can say: hey, map chat would be overflowed (it can be avoided limiting the zones in which people can duel) or some people can be kitten when they win or loose (we have the code of conduct for that, and the bans for abusers) or “i don’t want to decline duels 90% of my time” (can also be prevented by having a status you can turn on or off, which automatically ignores duel invitations).

Those are perfectly understandable gripes, and when you voice them, you are giving developers a clue of what they should take into account when adding new features to the game, IF they add them. That’s actually a very worthy contribution!

But, if you say: no. I don’t want dueling because there will be abusers (so you are simply ignoring the developer’s ability to overcome that issue). That’s as destructive a criticism as there can possibly be: it works towards preventing new features from even being added!

It gets even worse when people flood the forums each time somebody asks for something new, resort to name calling, get the posts closed.

Everything they have added to the game had lovers and haters (all of them with their reasons). What if anet would have listened to the haters and decided to not add anything new? We would have a much less complete game.

Your will to compromise is actually the kind of opinion i think we should see more in the forums: you expose your problem, propose a solution. There. in the future, if you ever decide to come by one of those dueling zones, you may find it fun and meet nice people. You will certainly not be able to do so if Anet does nothing about dueling.

If anet decides that they couldn’t possibly make it work, or it would cause too many problems they don’t have the resources to contain, and then they don’t add the feature, at least the case was given some thought!

There, I hope my other comment doesn’t seem so strange now.

Arena in LA

Remember that arena in LA that was featured in the Edge of Destiny book? The one Destiny’s Edge fought in?

I always thought that should have been a thing in-game and thought it strange that it wasn’t. I mean as far as the book goes, this was pretty recent before the start of the game, not generations / centuries ago. It should have still been there. And it was a pretty major attraction in the city. Wasn’t it something the patrons even placed bets on?

I thought that would have been a cool thing to have in the game, this mini pvp tournament in LA where teams can talk to an NPC and queue up for matches, and everyone else already hanging out in town can watch them like a real audience, and even place bets on which team wins. This could have been a pretty major thing in LA; there’s no way it wouldn’t have been popular, and it would have COMPLETELY fit from a lore perspective.

Granted, after Scarlet’s attack, there’s plenty of reason for it to not be there now. But what about before? And perhaps more importantly, what about the future? I think it’s something worth Anet considering as LA gets rebuilt.

could be done if they set it in a different map. i mean, the reason most mmorpgs keep the duels out of the city is to prevent chat overflow. if they could adjust it in a way that, upon entering the building the arena is in you are in a different map chat, then it should be cool.

Thanks bird, for summing up all the arguments against in a single post, so i can express why they wouldn’t be an issue also in a single post:

[-] Arguments against:

  • GW2 is not that other game. Dueling in GW2 is like that eternal fight between a whale and an elephant, because GW2 was designed with class synergy in mind: different classes with different damage, control and utility skills, combo fields, AoE sharing (and stripping) boons and conditions. That’s why PvP has the 5v5 structure, and the objective is to hold points, and not kill each other.

Most of my battles in pvp are 1on1, as when i am holding a point and a guy comes to take it, or i try to take a point from one guy. If he or me get help, then that’s an unfair mini fight and of course no one balances a game or expects somebody to consistently win against 2 foes. Dueling wouldn’t be a meassure of who is best. Always, when dueling, people take into account the class they are playing against, and can learn the most effective way to neutralize it.

  • Your gear stats will be normalized, as the design behind GW2 says that sports-like competition is about skills and not credit cards.

No problem if it is, no problem if it is not. Actually, normalizing gear would make it great practice, not doing it would still make it worthwhile for role playing purposes.

  • No matter how you hide it through options, people will always find a way to annoy you in say chat, map chat and even whispers (like they do in WvW). The best way to prevent this is not to have dueling at all.

People can still annoy you with chat, map chat, and even whispers. Because, well, they can use chat, map chat, and whispers. It doesn’t have anything to do with dueling being implemented or not. If you have anything against verbal abuse, hide the chat. Dueling, I repeat, has nothing to do with the chat.

  • Dueling would cause either a class balance disaster or a community disaster. There are already more than enough community complaints about mesmers and thiefs which caused them to be nerfed so hard because of PvP that playing in PvE became meh, and making it even worse because of a game mode which wasn’t designed to exist in the first place would feel wrong for players maining these classes.

No. As dueling would not be a measure for anything, it wouldn’t cause any problem. Mesmers and thieves were nerfed because they could tear down any class and they can still do it, which is the reason the celestial meta exists in pvp (all classes needing to be tanky to survive the rage of a thief).

  • People who duel have a negative attitude towards everyone else. We do not want to see dueling in a PvE environment as it will bring uneasiness and unsafety, which contradicts the philosophy of GW2’s PvE.

I never encountered anyone dueling with a negative attitude towards anyone in wow, as those people tend to be ignored and cannot find anyone to duel with in the first place.

Also, there are people with negative attitudes in all game modes in Guild Wars 2. Yes, your terribly friendly cooperative game is full of griefers that jump at you at the first chance they get. The fact this game limits their possibilities to jump at you doesn’t mean that they are any less kittenholes. A good example was the rata sum farm. But there’s also people abusing others in map chat in world events, dungeons, spvp, wvwvw, you name it. Dueling doesn’t have anything to do with it.

By the way, i would really, REALLY like to know how many of the people against dueling have actually tried it in other games, and how many of those have received consistently abuse from other players due to dueling.

Sorry for the long post.

As for the reasons in favor, i only have a few:

- cool for more roleplaying options
- cool for practicing against other classes (that’s cooperative, yes, the other guy helps you to improve by dueling with you).
- very good for teaching people wanting to learn in a more relaxed environment (see? more coop)
- the mists are not a good place to hang out: it makes the rest of the world empty of pvpers. (yet more cooperative! i care about tyria not being empty)
- it would add more possibilities to an open world that really has too few.

oh, i would like to add that i rarely dueled in wow, because i roleplayed or raided all the time. And only did it while roleplaying, so it wouldn’t change my life if they added it, but it would certainly give more rp options in a game that offers you almost zero ways to interact with other players.

Or they could opt for the simplest solution that’s proven itself to be utterly effective at making dueling not be a problem and foster no problems at all.

That solution is already in place. There is no dueling. There’s a fairly good chance there never will be.

Yes! That solution can be implemented in all aspects of the game, BTW.

Poorly balanced pvp? let’s get rid of pvp and end the player discomfort.

Boring dungeons? Let’s not add new dungeons, so players will not complain.

Chat abuse? let’s get rid of the chat. Why not? it only saddens players.

People complaining about poor loot? No loot at all! now every time you kill a mob, it awards you zero (0) loot, so you will not feel you have bad luck because that other guy got his fourth precursor.

People discontent with their server in WVW and needing to WVW for 100% map completion? let’s kill that game mode! And also kill rewards for map completion while we are at it.

As a matter of fact, let’s bring down the servers. People will play other games where they can complain about all the things that can potentially be not 100% perfect for the 100% of the player base. You included.

Really, it puzzles me to see such negativity towards change, and the addition of new things that have zero potential to alter your gameplay.

Here’s an idea for a condition/power build I have for my necro. I enjoy playing as this build but was wondering if it was worth continuing it or if I could build it better. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fRQQNArYWn0IS5N2YDW3A/NmoXogeMDg2N6HYCyAqGDA-TRSAABKcGAAV9HnViJ9hAQMlHA8AAGUfTP7P0mSwAAHA7W36ub6u7u7+5nf+5nfud3d3d3d3SBAzcA-e any ideas what I should do with this?

i run hybrid necro for some time (scepter-dagger/axe-focus). For fractals it was sort of ok. for any other type of dungeon, the zerkers in the group would massacre everything before I could build enough stacks of bleed worth spreading.

But then again, even if it was ok for fractals, I still didn’t contribute anything special to the party. No might stacking, no protection, poor vulnerability stacking on bosses, no fire fields, no nothing worth writing home about.

Oh, so, by anet’s definition, having to kill a raid boss, for a 15% chance to get the sword I want = grind.

Being able to get that same sword after:

- spending hundreds of hours hoarding mats or gold to buy the mats needed to craft other mats needed to craft the sword (with time gating, because kitten)
- get that sword via killing any mob in game, with a drop chance of 0,00000001%

= no grind!!!

Give me back my grind, please.

GW2 is no strategic game
public Game is can’t team play
heal skill is not possible to heal another player
Lack of cooperation play

Why can not collaboration and cooperation play?
Role is because vague and weak
PvP need Role Basic Architecture(DPS/Tank/Healer) + Hybrid Role

i want play Tank+Healer
Arena.net was not able to meet the demand of customers like Tank/Healer
DO NOT TRUNCATE THE CUSTOMER OF TNK AND HEALER

Most mmorpgs have trinity system.

Gw2, from start, was advertised as no trinity.

You are complaining because your motorcycle has two wheels only, and want it to have four wheels? Go and buy a car, man!
