So…
Players: “Curse you, Anet! Give us loot already!”

Players again: “Curse you, Anet! Stop filling my inventory already!”

that’s so cynical! When people ask for loot, we obviously don’t mean the trash anet thinks they must give us because we would go play other game (another game that was, you know, actually FUN) if we actually got what we want without spending 80000 hours to get it.

To be ridiculously honest, ever since the megaserver update, I’ve never found a map that wasn’t bugged.

bugged since launch. Or since i completed that map for the first time, anyway.

I remember, the first time i completed the event, i used the experimental rifle they sell next to the lake, and one shotted the queen. I think you cannot do it any more, though. That rifle was sick!

Well, I found a solution to this problem. I’ve left the guild, closed off all chat screens and now I just do dailies and world boss events. Removing all social aspects of this game has granted me protection from the NON STOP NEGATIVITY towards Necros. I have so much of negativity in real life, I play this game to get away from that.

Game has become much better since.

man, how I feel for you. a few weeks ago i had an argument with my entire guild for suggesting that necro damage wasn’t as bad.

Well, at least they do take me in their dungeon runs.

I’m using group buffing wells for healing and converting conditions to boons, etc. but it’s just not good enough. Might as well go full DPS.

Extremely disappointing to be honest. Sorry for the negativity, I suppose I just have to vent a bit. I spent quite a bit of time – and money – with this character only to realize it underperforms.

Even worse: your wells overwrite firefields and when people blast them, instead of that juicy power up, they get aoe blind, completely useless against the bosses.

Really, whoever designed necromancers, must have been completely oblivious of the game mechanics in GW2.

To the OP: Sadly, many of the great things Angry Joe raved about are now out of reach for new players. Anet apparently decided that people were overwhelmed by so much things to do and locked a lot of the content behind a grinding machine.

Right now, the game is not worth your time. Shed your guilt and play something that’s actually meant to be fun until this game gets fixed.

I reported that spot while the event was actually going on (Halloween). I didn’t really know what was going on but it looked very suspicious when you have 10-20 people at one spot in an area where nothing goes on.

It’s good to know Anet acts so fast…………./sarcasm

actually, anet condoned the farm and even banned some griefers that were trying to boicot it.

In the end, I guess, it bugged them that people were getting gold faster than what they wanted. That and the avalanche of reports for griefers that didn’t have anything better to do than screw other people’s playtime.

On the other hand, why do people await everything to be gotten easily? do you automatically get full-geared characters when you start a new character in other MMOs? do they unlock everything for you? You already have played the game before, therefore you have no excuse for spending some extra time in dungeons to get gold and therefore unlocking the traits.

Why do you assume people await EVERYTHING handed to them EASILY? The guy leveled a character to 80 just using tomes he probably got from sPVP and crafting. Give him some credit!

Anet advertised this game as grind free. Now, it so happens that you level to 80 and have to grind gold before getting the traits that will allow you to be useful in WvW. Sounds familiar? sounds like classic mmo raiding to me.

To make it worse, the events you have to clear to unlock the traits are on a timer or whatever, so you just cannot pop up, use whatever skills you have, and complete the event. You are requested to camp the map in the hope the event will start and enough people will show up to clear it. GENIUS!

I just feel lucky most of my characters were created before this stupid change struck.

It’s a good change.
It rewards people who enjoy all areas of content, incentivizes players to try other forms of content, and is possible for people who refuse to expand their horizons.

If you’re intent on only doing PvE, then you’ve got a self-imposed restriction that is making it more difficult than it needs to be for you.

The game is more than 2 years old now. If people don’t enjoy all areas of content, it’s because, so far, the game failed to make those areas enjoyable. Punishing players for the faults of the game is ridiculous.

At this point, the only way for them to compete with this is to announce an expansion of their own.

Who wants to compete with that game? It’s the undisputed king of subscription based MMos, and probably the undisputed king in profit making. It’s also a game with a really massive audience, unlike GW2, which is a more humble game.

Each one has it target audience, and I don’t think GW2 will suffer too much because of WOW’s expansion.

Besides, the expansion’s story really sucks. I played wow for years and the story stopped being interesting after WOTLK.

Are we talking about those expansions that drag and hold players for a month or two?
Because all those expansion here and there are like that.

More like drag and hold players for a year or more (at least, the ones interested in PVE). That other game’s expansions are really full of content and very well executed, even if I quit playing because I got tired of playing two hours a day everyday, doing the same sort of thing, and with no players to do other stuff in my long-dying low population server.

Anyway, I don’t like the direction that game has taken with expansions. The story is going nowhere and, now there will be no Titan to substitute WoW, it will keep roaming pointlessly as long as they think the game is still viable (ten more years, at least?).

PSA: How Farming Works

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aenesthesia.1697

Aenesthesia.1697

Very interesting, if long, post.

My problem with farming, is that it is SO much more rewarding than playing the game how it was intended to be played.

It’s like Anet’s message is: want to play for fun? ok, have fun with the limited content we throw at you. You want to play for rewards? switch your brain off and be prepared to throw your day in the trash bin.

From a gold or gear point of view, this game only cares about how much time you throw at it, and how repetitive the things you do are. More time + more simple, repetitive stuff = more gold or gear

Just the opposite of what it should be, if you ask me.

I just want some clarity on why a RPG? Why something that already has a role, story and set rules? Why something where someone just passing by can accidentally ruin your RP experience? Wouldn’t it be better using a forum, with Tyria as the backdrop?

for me it’s just a matter of immersion. Who are my characters? just some random names attached to a proffesion, or there’s a story behind each? how do they interact with other players? do they go around saying: man, i have to kill X mobs to get the daily, or they come across one guy and ask how are they doing, and, after a while, explain they are on a rampage because some centaurs killed a friend and they intend to kill as many as possible before the day ends?

the game offers only a canvas. The personal story is so poor it doesn’t help with immersion at all. Roleplaying your character does help a lot.

Heck, when playing Wow, I even roleplayed the raids.

a random guy showing up and trying to spoil the fun is likely going to happen. Screw him. it’s just a drop of water in the sea. He will get banned and I will keep having fun just the way I like.

I’ve seen someone using it in open world. That was during the last week so possibly something may have been adjusted since then. I don’t know where today’s controversial area is (I don’t hang out much on that particular map) but it’s not in the mad prince instance.

No, it works perfectly in the open world, only some critters seem to be immune. For example, there are lots of crabs in some spot in metrica province, but they seem to be immune.

There are 2 spots i know of, where ambient creatures spawn regularly in groups of 2-3 and there’s enough of these groups so you can go around converting and tagging. One of these spots is being heavily farmed by naked people though, and the sheer amount of people means you not always get to tag the critters, so I moved to spot two.

And then there are the rats in Rat-a sum. But the whole might not equal the sum of its parts, as you need to be lvl 2 to not get reported, and there has to be a lvl 30 with low damage AOE on short cooldown to be able to convert the rats and tag the elementals without killing them at the same time.

And, again, using maize balm in the open world is not worth the risk of kill stealing.

Boy, for 1g every 3 minutes, EVERYTHING is worth the risk of kill stealing.

Besides, there are groups of organized people runing around naked, politely tagging mobs without oneshoting them. i did that for a while and people even begun sending me their balms so I would continue converting critters for the whole party to share the loot.

Stuff like this happens.

Honestly.. What the hell were you thinking anet?

?? You don’t like the fact that someone who was clearly griefing other players got banned? did you read the entire post? the guy was like a pest. It’s a miracle he didn’t get banned for life. BTW, I don’t think his attitude had anything to do with the maize farm at all.

There are other cases of guys accidentally getting in the way of the farm and being told to GTFO by some rude farmers. But rude people are rude. Same happens with people purposedly failing events, to the champ train in queensdale a while ago… some people accept the fact some random guy can accidentally spoil the fun, some are too $/%& to care at all and resort to insults from moment 0. Doesnt have anything to do with the maize farm.

When this skitten, not being able to farm the instance, i found a nice empty spot to farm rats. Suddenly, a guy showed up and started killing the rats before i could convert them. I asked what was he doing and he said he got there first and he would kill the rats until i left. I asked him (politely) to stop ruining the farm and share, and he told me: give me 5g or i’ll continue to kill the rats ruining your farm. Stupid thing to do: up to that point he could have claimed he was just killing critters for the achievement, but extorsion is extorsion. I reported him and I assume he has been banned and with good reason. And it didn’t have anything to do with the maize balm, but with his horrible attitude towards me.

[Suggestion] Increase dungeon token rewards

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aenesthesia.1697

Aenesthesia.1697

I did. For a total set, you need 9990 tokens. 9990. Neunundneunzig luftballons. For an average dungoen run, you are gonna get 60 tokens + 9 from bosses, so that’s 69 tokens. that means you gotta run the same dungoen 145 times to complete it. A total 1160 runs for all the dungeons. Most people in most dungeons don’t even run all paths, cause some take twice as long as others, but even if you ran all 3, that’s still 48 runs each path.

Do you think that’s enough? It’s like a torture, repeating the same old boring content over and over and over and over again, until your brain starts to melt, and drips out your ear.

Welcome to GW2. Most of the nice rewards are buried below hundreds of hours of mindless farming. In other games, at least, you could play challenging group content when in pursuit of rewards. In this game, you can either FYAO or FYAO.

I think this thread is pretty good evidence that the value of skins is incredibly subjective. Sometimes a cool skin is going to be basic, gritty, realistic or plain. Other times a god’s hand come from the sky to hand you a universe tearing, light sparkling, night glowing mace that may not compel awe as much as it will force other around you to dance until the stubs of their bones beat a catchy cadence for your amusement.

I agree with the subjective value of skins. However, I don’t think anybody wants their character to be Disco Stu. Sometimes the developer’s sense of humor really gets in the way of immersion.

this game is based on the concept that success doens’t get you a reward, time played does. This way, everybody can enjoy the game without getting frustrated, but everybody has to play 800 hours to get the good rewards, because otherwise everybody does get the good reward and it stops being rewarding.

Well, it’s an mmo. Did you really expected to complete all maps without ANY kind of help? (and you still can, but it requires more time and patience).

If you really hate wvwvw, and want the achievement anyway, just log in everyday, and you will eventually have access to all the remaining vistas and pois you don’t have . Otherwise, you could get friends, prepare an invasion, take a keep, those sort of things people do in online games to have fun.

Raids are coming to GW2!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aenesthesia.1697

What is Raid exactly? noob here..

Raids are dungeons made for more people than you’d typically be able to party with. They are generally harder than normal dungeons and require far more people and coordination. Many MMOs are centered around raids.

As time progresses, the number of people that make a raid is less and less. In the old EQ days raids were 75 man. In vanilla WoW they were 40-man, and later became 20 main. Rift even had 10 man raids.

The bottom line is they’re supposed to be challenging, instanced content done with more people than a standard party.

ahhh it’s kinda Dungeon only with more people XD

they’re also way longer with a weekly ID (since you need more days to complete a raid) , way harder and with more complex tactics, no idea how a raid would work on gw2 anyway cuz the lack of the trinity and since most of the bosses get facetanked.

takes days?? O_O hmm example we raid 5pm to 10pm we reach 50% so we get out the raid. Then we can roam around other areas then get back to where we left?

usually people raid for no more than 2 hours a day. The drawback is you have to be a part of a group of organised people, who play at the same time everyday. This for me kills part of the fun. You can leave the raid and return at your convenience, progress is saved only after you kill a boss. There can be from 1 to more than 10 bosses in a raid, and each encounter may take up to 10 minutes (some even more). I really miss wow raids, but i don’t miss playing every single day at the same hour regardless what.

2. they dont need to hire a raid content designer to make more open world afk 1111111 events. they can create those events already.

But probably they don’t want to make open world afk 1111, and instead they want to make (some of) the open world encounters as complex as those of typical mmo raids.

3. there is literally no challenging content in gw2 and instanced raid content would be a good way to introduce it.

well, arah is kind of challenging, and there is the wurm, and there was the marionette. They said the marionette was some kind of guinea pig for the future of group content.

4. anet has never, NEVER in their history, called open world content “raids”. never.

ok, but if they published they werehiring an ‘open world content designer’ they wouldn’t attract the designers they want.

I’d like to add a suggestion to your suggestion : To make it possible to log off and log back in the same instance, without losing your progress. This way, we could have dungeons that last for days and weeks. It would be awesome!

… because I don’t think that the best loot should be reserved to those who can go over 24 hours without sleeping.

I think the opposite would be more interesting.

Make it an Iron Man/Marathon style dungeon where there is no saving your place. If you leave, you have to start over. If you want the really nice or exotic loot then run the dungeon for 5-6 hours straight. Make it so the longer you keep playing the higher the chance of getting exotic drops to the point where if you can keep playing for 12 hours then you might actually have a 5% chance at exotics per drop instead of the .000001% chance it normally is.

It may be a hardship to try a marathon like that, but if the rewards are worth it, people will do it.

well, congrats. You just proposed a game I cannot play. (neither me nor all the people who has a job and a life outside this videogame). I mean, seriously… 6 hours? So you come out with those great rewards that certify you played a single dungeon for six straight hours? whooo hoooO!

Farm toxicity and fix suggestion!!

I think you’re misunderstanding the point of this thread… a clear issue (which you yourself admit to, that of players not being able to complete event) is pointed out and a possible solution is proposed too, a solution that attempts to keep both parties happy at that. Forgive me if I’m misunderstanding you but so far in this thread you’ve you’ve primarily just justified how one can entitle themselves the right to verbally abuse someone else, and not making a single meaningful contribution as to how the problem could be solved other than everyone whose being inconvenience to just ‘suck it up’ and let the farmers farm.

I think you haven’t read the title of this post. The problem, if the title is correct, is toxicity between players, not a bug or a design flaw that will be sorted sooner or later. If you erase this design flaw, players will still have reasons to be toxic to each other because this game forces some sort of interaction. There will be always toxicity if some players feel entitled to force their gameplay on the others. Wether it be farmers, or people who just want to complete their mission and go home.

What makes a skilled gw2 player?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aenesthesia.1697

Aenesthesia.1697

This is a broad question i am aware but I think it would be interesting. So in a general pve sense what separates a skilled player from an unskilled one? Let’s assume they are specced appropriately. Im really looking forward to seeing your responses.

Frankly? endless hours playing this game.

I come from wow, i am not afraid to say. I could play for 2 hours a day, I would check the theorycraft forums after every patch, fill my own excel sheet with all possible gear so I would know what to pick and when to pass. I had recount to help me see if I was doing ok with a certain build or I needed to change and how effective the change was.

Here I don’t have any of that. This means I should spend countless of hours trying every single variable to see which combination si optimal (dps wise). I don’t have recount to see what works and what doesn’t, so the trial and error is endless and guided by feeling rather than by fact.

Then, the boss mechanics: boss do have their tells, but as the size of the bosses is not bigger than the effects of our spells, it’s almost impossible to see what the boss is doing, so learning the encounters is rather difficult unless you play MANY times.

To add insult, the camera really works against you in bosses like lupicus, where you are supposed to stay at mele but the camera goes completely weird if lupi gets near a wall.

Add to that the fact very few encounters are difficult enough for me to challenge me and force me to do it better or die, I find it very hard to get better. Bosses most of the time just die before I learn anything.

For me, getting more skilled, would mean playing many more hours, much more than 2 a day, and I frankly couldn’t be bothered, given the present state of the game.

Then, my quests redirected me to the shiverpeaks, to stop the Icebrood. Little did I know that my previous experience with sons of svanir was a false one. Because the enemy was not the Svanir, no, it was the playerbase. They were intent on helping the icebrood succeed in their wicked ways for their greed had been rewarded.
As for today, I still falsely hope for a chance to be able to defeat these svanir, and return to the story that I paid for. Until then, I will just uninstall until the greedy cease to be svanir’s allies. I’m sorry, Mordremorth, another hero will have to stop you, for I cannot until this has been passed.”

I am not denying your right to finish the quest. As i said, the problem is that your gameplay collides with others’. You can try to move to another server, you can wait for anet to repair this mess, or you can troll all the people trying to make the event fail. You can even go and uninstall the game but i doubt you will, because you must be enjoying this game if you are still playing it, and a minor setback like people farming one event should not be enough if you haven’t quit yet (there have been worse things).

The Gem Store is a terrible sort of endgame which only makes a few players look cool in their shinies and leads to other players feeling frustrated for not being able to farm the gold necessary to look that cool.

There, we faced the eye of Zhaiten. Who the duck is Sayeh? and what’s an eye of Zhaitan? Why, after purifying orr, i must supossedly comtinue my quest alone, but then trehearne calls me again to the pact keep for chapter 8?

chapter eight starts with trehearne telling me about a guy named Tonn who apparently died but I have never met before. This morning during coiled watch (see attachment) the usual toxicity.
To kindly put it, they kindly requested that I cease my biological functions.

What did you expect? well, for sure not that they told you to die, but, let’s look at it from the other side (and i in no way take part in this failing event farming):

’this morning, i was playing gw2 with a big group of pals. We were enjoying this event where you can kill mobs like crazy as long as you let the event fail. There were, like, 30 people doing this, having a good time.

Then, suddenly, ONE. I mean, ONE single guy shows up and tries to ruin the fun for all 30 of us. At first we thought he was a noob and sort of kindly told him to let the event fail, but he would insist in that HIS right to play the game how he wanted was superior to OUR right (mine and all the other 30 guys’) to enjoy it how we wanted. We then told him to stop being and @sshole and go play somewhere else, and the guy insisted in ruining the fun for us.

Well, it got pretty bad afterwards, and i’m sure some of my pals told him to GTFO and probably said things about his mother or who knows but, what did the guy expect? had this been real life, he would have had to face a very angry mob and he would have surely got his @ss kicked off. Being this a fairly children friendly game, he got off with just a couple of insults. Less than he deserved, if you ask me. ’

See? i am sure anet needs to make events more rewarding if you succeed rather than if you fail. But anet cannot change people’s attitude. If I realise my behaviour is a problem for a lot of people around me, no matter how right i am, I will try to stop the offense.

You not only kept offending, but insisted in your right to do so, and call the other people toxic. You cannot go around trolling people and complain about their reaction. YOU caused that reaction, after all.

It would be nice to have something like Recount so i can see who isn’t pulling their weight. Can’t stand leechers who get loot and gold off of others hard work and abilities.

oh, come on, how much have you lost because of ‘leechers’ that are nothing more than people with suboptimal damage? Of all the reasons to have a thing like recount, you go and choose the worst one.

Besides, how do you measure the damage rangers bring to the party?

I would really like to have it, though, to see how i’m doing, to experiment with builds and different traits, it would make dungeons more fun for me, as in the present state, they are not challenging, at least I would have the challenge of beating myself in DPS.

Why is that a problem?

Conditions are useless on bosses,

Not true. Conditions do their thing. The problem is, conditions don’t stack past 25 mark, meaning you can only have 1 condition class per group or you are wasting damage. It also seems that condi damage actually does less damage than direct damage (because conditions fade too quickly, which means that you don’t even have such a big uptime advantage), which is a stupid thing and I’ll explain why below.

Dungeons take eons to finish without some full DPS builds and As the result, the price of Bloods has skyrocketed.

Come on, how many bloods do you need? I sold like 40 of them a few days ago. As for the full dps builds doing more damage than non full dps builds, what did you expect? If you are an expert in defense, you cannot pretend to dish out the same damage than an expert in offense.

IMO I don’t think this is how the game supposed to work.

Ok, it’s your opinion, but there has to be a reason behind it, or did it just occur to you while you were sleeping? What’s the problem with dps specced people actually doing dps?

I fail to see the reasoning behind your post.

I can tell you for sure, though, that conditions need a rework to make them as viable as direct damage (actually, conditions should dish out more damage in the long run, to compensate for the lack of burst damage…. otherwise, if you move from zerker to rampager, for example (both glass cannon types) you have less burst damage, and also lesss overall damage, it’s a no-win situation!. At least, conditions should last longer, to grant a superior uptime compared to direct damage, and at least in certain situations you could say that, ok, you don’t have burst but if you cannot keep hitting the target all the time, at least your conditions are still doing something for you.

Progress beyond level 80 should be a grind

Sarcastic OP

If you think completing a mission just once is grind, then you have no idea of what it is.

Let me use an example to explain: if you have to throw 4-1000 exotics in the mystic toilet to get a precursor, that’s grind. If you only had to throw 4, then it is just crafting.

Same with the traits. And no, i don’t think unlocking 48 traits one by one is cool or anything, but it’s not a grind either.

This accusation gets tossed around a lot – that certain people who post such high praise for Anet’s decisions might be rewarded in some way. I haven’t reached a decision on this yet, so I thought the best approach is just to come right out and ask.

Will someone at ANet please tell the rest of us if you reward certain people for their forum comments? If you could just issue a flat out denial then that might diminish the number of accusations, especially right now.

hasn’t it occured it to you that, as well as some people hate certain changes, there may be a few others who love them or don’t think it’s such a big issue? With so many players, what’s the chance that ALL of them will agree that something is cool or stinks?

If you ignore your customers, they are going to get angry at you sooner or later. It’s not like they don’t have where to get feedback from.

They launched a game 2 years ago and instead of improving it, they just destroyed it for alts. Luckily all my chars are above lvl 30, or I would delete them.

ANet is oversimplifying this.

I don’t know why people complain about the first few levels consisting on pressing F only. It gives a much clearer idea of how the endgame plays: press 1 and whatever key you have your roll binded to.

Grind Wars 2?

Some like to collect achievements. You would be unhappy too, if they get the thing away what keeps you playing.

but they said this game was about playing fun content, not about keeping farming day and night for some stupid achievement nobody wants anyway.

I mean, I don’t have a problem with the game being full of stupid stuff that requires a lot of grind, as long as they also add something fun to do besides that. At least the did add a few fun encounters in the last LS, but the cheap, empty content seems to outpace the quality stuff.

2 groups that wish for 2 different end-game's

My two cents: I think Anet seriously underestimates casual players.

I used to play wow, daily, for the hardcore endgame. I didn’t care about rewards, but the fact I could stand up to a challenge with my guild, become a better player and help my guilmates play better, and overcome the greatest odds or whatever.

Now I cannot commit 2 straight, uninterrupted hours a day. That’s what makes me a casual player. I may play 2 or more hours one day, then dissappear for 3 weeks, then come back. I quit fractals because I often had to leave even though I thought I was going to have the time to do the full run. For the same reason I don’t run aetherblade even though it was cool the first time (even though it took us like 3 hours), or Arah.

But I still want to feel all I is run around pressing key #1. I greatly enjoyed the marionette event, it had all a raid boss is supposed to have: changing mechanics, difficulty, and little chance of success if all the group don’t stand up to the challenge. It only lacked a good reward but i didn’t care because bosses like that we’re so hard to come by. I can try challenging content, I just don’t have time for long content. But the two don’t need to go together.

The idea that the endgame of this game is the game in itself is cool as a concept, but the execution is lacking. I don’t enjoy events after the 100th time. I don’t enjoy 24 dungeon paths after repeating them for the nth time (and since I mention dungeons, WOW has like 160 of them…. that would be 16 new ones per year…. GW2?). I don’t enjoy exploring the map or levelling the fourth character to 80 (I have 4 characters I am trying to level and I cannot force myself to play with them more than a few minutes).

We don’t need new maps (that just spreads players too much), we need changes and variety to the existing ones, and the LS may be a good way to achieve this, but the piñata bosses are just too boring, even for a casual player.

What do you guys most enjoy in the game? Do you actually want a Legendary and if so, why?

Do I want a legendary? at first I didn’t, as I didn’t like the models my character could use.

Now I have a lvl 80 guardian, a level 60 mesmer, a lvl 45 ranger and a lvl 32 warrior, and all of them would like to have Twilight. Am i going to farm for it? No. I would need like 700gold for the precursor alone, and it would take me years to amass that fortune. Farming is not fun.

What do I enjoy in the game? doing dungeons, taking part in events i didn’t know existed, and the thing I enjoyed the most was the marinoette.

There.

How come they are so expensive now? I thought anet killing the champ trains would bring the value down, and instead it has more than doubled in the past month or so. Is it the pavillion or they are just making gems more and more expensive so people will start buying them with cash instead?

Still waiting for end game content

So yeah, my daily thought…

Where is my high level end game rewarding content ive been waiting for so long?

Am I in the wrong game?

I think you are in the wrong game. If you search in youtube, you will find something that went like: WTF no end game content? That was aired before the game even came out, and explained that GW2 would depart from the traditional end game of other mmorpgs.

The thing is, no one expected that that would mean that the game could be played by a drinking bird. So, while I have to admit they delivered on their promise, the outcome is rather dissapointing.

Which weapons you want on Necro?

in Necromancer

Aenesthesia.1697

scythe! cleave melee 2H weapon,

All it needs is:

- a 4 step chain auto attack. The third and fourth step would root the necro and do considerable more damage or apply effects.

- a gap closer. Could be called leap of doom or something like that. The necro turns into a shadow that closes the distance in no time, appearing among its enemies ready to spread death. If double tapped quickly, the necro moves backwards instead (works as an escape)

- Scythe of doom: the necro lashes with it’s scythe twice, dealing increasing damage and applying vulnerability. If not interrupted, the necro finishes with a leap that lands smashing the scythe on the ground, stunning foes around. (Blast finisher).

The rest of skills, I dunno. Don’t want to make the weapon unbalanced. But necros, right now, are missing gap closers, cleave damage, and blast finishers. Voilá! Imagine casting locust swarm, swapping to scythe, jumping in the middle of the fight, dropping your wells, a quick DS for weakening shroud and fury, and then wreaking havoc with the scythe. WAY COOL!

Dagger would still be optimal for single target dps.

A Designer's viewpoint: Condition Caps

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aenesthesia.1697

You do understand the capacity for damage that Condi builds are able to achieve, right? When geared correctly at “endgame”, a necro that is able to consistantly, and solo, maintain a 25 stacks of bleeding on a target will inflict over 280,000 damage over a single minute. And that’s just from bleeds alone. Combined with Parasitic Contagion (Close to Death does kitten-all for Condi Damage), that’s self-healing of 14,000 without touching a heal skill. Adding in direct damage and other incidental conditions, you’re looking at minimum of 50,000 damage.

And that’s one necro. Imagine 5-10 of them if conditions were not affected by a duration/stack cap.

Edit: Lulz. I forgot about the disgusting damage spread caused by epidemic.

In a single minute, the bleeds of a necro get to do kitten because the other 4 zerker warriors have obliterated everything around before the 10 second mark. And this is completely true. I stopped using epidemic in dungeons the moment everyone rolled a warrior. Before I can build, say, 15 stacks on the first target to cast epidemic, the target and everyone around are dead. Even if I casted epidemic with 10 stacks, it would mean nothing since the other targets are going to die before the bleeds do full damage.

[suggestion] $15/month = no diminished returns...

Aenesthesia.1697

So some people do like to farm that much huh. I would say you guys are playing the wrong game. Most of free-to-play MMO requires a lot of farming, perhaps you guys should consider giving those a shot. And you don’t even need to pay that $15 fee.

Problem is that many people play to get the rewards. Since this game doesn’t reward you for playing challenging content, these people (who in other games would be hardcore raiders) shift to mindless farm in order to optimize their gold income in order to get the shinies they want. Diminishing returns partially kills mindless farm they think is the optimal way of playing this game. Frankly i’d rather watch tv than farm in this or any other game (and that’s saying a lot!)

The curious thing is, for 15 a month and the time they seem to have to play, they could be playing other MMORPGS with challenging group content instead, and they would get shinies that actually mean you did something not everybody can, instead of the shinies in this game, that are a certificate of time loss.

GW2 is not about that. You group because you want to, not because you have to. This was a key tenet that I feel they delivered on spectacularly. When I first started playing GW2 to today, I still get that feeling of comraderie from the entire group surrounding me when we take down an objective and not just from my 5-8 person party.

Well, what I cited as a problem is indeed the side effect of the great and groundbreaking ‘no group needed’ system. I agree with you in that there’s a sense of comune going on in these mega events, and it’s a good thing. But, I don’t know, the fact that everybody gets his prize means that the prize is worthless. And the fact that everybody can be friends with everybody means there’s nothing at stake. The only time they did introduce a challenging event where the success of the whole server relied on the success of a few (marionette) I could still see that cammaraderie going on, with people cheering other platforms, but I also could see that there are many people who stop being nice once they have to rely on oher people.
