Did hell just freeze over? Someone actually asked for a nerf to necromancer?
Necromancers should stop crying about being so bad and unviable, but rather go figure out a build that would work. Having passive stuff like this is not good for the game, that’s just a pure fact.
yeah, like, of all the people trying to play necromancers, not even one has come up with a meta build so far (don’t know after the patch). Please, don’t be ridiculous.
(and i agree on the passive bad design, sames as with the elementalist cleansing conditions with a passive… no way to damage him being a condi necro!)
WTF F F F ?
Is this guy for real? how come he has 5 million hits?
Hi,
We are a guild of 3 guys . We love WWW.
With Guild halls , we will have to do guild missions. So why we have to do puzzle jump and things like this , when in this game we just love killing people on the battlefield !
Why can t we play as we want .. ??
why can’t you? will your guild dissappear if you keep playing like you have up till now?
I didn’t foresee the amount of puns that the phoenix ref. would create lol
;)
The phoenix is reborn through it’s own ashes. Right?
yes, after the changes to consume conditions, we will get plenty of opportunities to be reborn. After every time we heal….
Hey OP, I have a question for you. With all the great comparison work you’ve done, and all the comparing, how come you left out dynamic events which the game is centered around. For example Guild Wars Prophecies had 209 quests.
If you add up all the quests in all four Guild Wars 1 products, you’ll find it was less than the number of dynamic events than Guild Wars 2 launched with.
You also left out species and starter areas. Seems to me I can play five races in this game, but only play 1 race throughout all of Guild Wars 2.
This is an expansion comparison. Not an original game comparison. When we spend the 45eur hot costs, we are not getting 5 new races to play, nor a ton of dynamic events
Yes, because giving a company your money isn’t enough, they need constant praise as well.
And our money, in advance, for what up till now looks like a half baked expansion with no launch date but, hey! You get to test the game for them! (Shouldnt they be paying someone to test the game instead?)
- if healing ourselves leaves us vulnerable, then logic only dictates that damaging the adversary should leave them invulnerable! change axe 2 so after hitting the enemy, the enemy has invulnerability for 3 seconds!
- Also, well of blood should cause vulnerability to all allies standing on it!
- fearing the foes should give them stability after the fear falls off, i don’t know why nobody thought of this before. It seems like a very balanced change.
- aplying bleeds should give the enemy regeneration, what else?
Please, anet, do consider these changes, to make the necro profession far more interesting! we are all going to have a great time dealing with it!
My guardian, warrior, engi, mesmer, and elementalist all support these changes!
Also, the elementalist says that, since we are to follow this path, then burning precision, on top of applying burn on crit, should also apply chill to compensate!

PvE…. groups actually request NO Necros. I dont pve so dont care but I still think something is wrong there.
that’s… not entirely true. I tried a few speed runs with my necro recently and had no trouble in joining those full zerk only groups. but if the group has no ele or no ps warrior, i feel i could be doing so much more……
that were no speed runs that were regular meta runs. and no the necro kicking stopped but that doesnt mean playing a necro got better
no, i didn’t try to join the meta lfgs, as i know necro is not meta and it would be dumb to try to join those. You can still speed clear a dungeon with a necro on the team, unless you go for world record.
And playing necro is not bad at all. The problem is all the things you could be doing for the team (including more damage) if you had a competitive class instead of the necro….
Convince me there will not be another three years of “Let’s crap on the Necromancer” and that I should pre-order Heart of Thorns.
necros are the Starks of this game. There will be indeed crapping the necros so far as there’s anybody left playing one, and if there wasn’t, anet would still find a way to crap on necros some more.

You’re assuming I’m bad at warrior. No, the criteria I judge this on is how well the character can compensate for my group making mistakes. The warrior doesn’t do it as well as the necro does. It even carries complete trash groups through fractals.
Recently I had a group wipe on bloomhunger when I was on my warrior and I managed to solo it, so I don’t think I’m bad at warrior. But it would have been much easier with my necro.
If i am running fractals and the group fails to wipe the floor with the boss in like 10 seconds, the last thing i want is a dude soloing the boss for 15 minutes to end up dead anyway.
I think everybody should play like they want, but you have to know by now that being tanky in this game only rewards the unskilled player.
The skilled player completely avoids damage, or kills the foe before the foe can kill him. Being tanky is not an asset in any way for that sort of play.
The fact that you decide to go for a tanky build doesn’t mean that you are not skilled, but it does mean that you lose a ton of damage for stats you don’t need if you are skilled.
And you cannot be serious to say the necro carries groups better than the warrior. The warrior, with his 25 stacks of might for everybody, banners, resurrects, and vulnerability stacking outshines the necro by just standing there….
Oh, and btw, being able to solo bloomhunger is not such a big deal, I do it from time to time with my zerker guardian (12k hp), it’s by far the easiest boss in fractals.
LOOK AT THE NUMBER OF BUILDS WE NOW HAVE AVAILABLE!
And these are not including the mix and match hybrid builds that we can theory craft. This is the insight I wish to share with my fellow necros.
Thank you Anet for opening up so many build possibilities to us.
That’s not insight. That’s wishful thinking. Right now, in spvp, the only viable build is power necro, and it has taken a hit to the chest due to the ridiculous nerf to consume conditions. Of course we have to wait to see if the other changes compensate, but seeing the history of necro in GW2 and how badly it’s been treated by anet, I am guessing we will end up with many equally useless builds.
I never understood the ‘oh it’s to hard so it’s not fair’
When the game released, they told us they wouldn’t be launching new armor/weap tiers every now and then, that would make our gear obsolete and force us to grind for the new ones.
Then they released exotic accesories, which were a step up, but hey, the difference is tiny and you only need them for fractals, so who cares?
Then they added weapons and armor, making the process of obtaining horribly expensive and farm intensive. In the case of weapons, the difference wasn’t as tiny anymore (5% damage increase), but hey, you can live with it. So many people crafted their ascendeds, and a lot more people passed.
It’s obvious that, not having hard content to challenge players, this game requires people to farm easy content to keep playing. Otherwise, they just go and play other games. So there, farm, little kittenholes! farm till you die because, now, ascended is no longer lackluster as a damage boost. It’s not hard. It’s boring, it’s repetitive, it’s ugly. Is it what this game wants to be?

To clarify: $50 is the price of the expansion. We included the core game as a free bonus to make it easier for new players to get into it.
I think it’s a good move and cannot understand the rage from so many players.
But i also think the value of the expansion, for all we’ve seen up till now, is like 10% of what you offered with the original game. And i also think that not including a free character slot was a very cheap move.
What is the official reasoning for Asc buff?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

So, just what I want to know is, what is the official reason that they thought the discrepancy between Exo and Asc needs to further increased?
Thanks in advance!
I guess that people still complain about not having enough to do after level 80. BAM! you can all now go farming to equip your 15 alts with ascended armor. EAT THAT KITTENSUCKERS!
They’ve worked kitten this expansion. It’s their life. What they put their hard work and passion into. Some of you think they’re just greedy dirtbags that want to screw you over…why? Have you ever created a work of art? A painting? A musical piece? A game? A story?
Correction: it’s their job. They can be passionate about it. They can make it into being their life. But it’s a job. And a collective one at that. And no one is judging the result of the hard work. They are judging the price tag because, obviously, it’s going to be terrible value when compared to the original game (unless they include 7 professions instead of one, 8 dungeons with 3 explorable paths, 32 maps, 5 new races , etc etc etc)
And yes, i have created many things. Some for work, and some for pleasure. And it all changes when you are trying to sell what you create. For work I have it easy: everything is detailed and set before i even start working, which means the final outcome always matches the expectations. This is not the case here, as they are being rather shady about many issues with HoT.
How would you feel if your hard work and what you’ve dedicated a year or two to, was ridiculed and hated before it was even released?
You don’t want to pay the full price for the pre-order?
Don’t. That is your choice. But they owe you NOTHING.
I would feel like working a lot more and proving everybody wrong. No one can ridicule what they haven’t seen and i don’t think that’s the case here.
And no, they don’t owe me nothing regarding HoT, because i haven’t paid yet. But they still owe me a minion ai for the necro that actually works, among many other things….

You guys should compare WoW expansion reveal to HoT, or even ff14 heavensward. Most of MMORPG are vague about their expansion too, there are no weekly live stream about the content neither weekly detailed blog post. Just check wow MoP reveal page, all they did are listed features and a very short portion of the reveal video and that’s pretty much it. How much more do you guys want? Anet won’t tell you every detail neither but that’s the same with every game expansion ever. People are having ridiculous expectations and it bothers me.
Everybody knows wow expansions and what they bring. Can be better or worse, but they bring tons of content, wether you enjoy it or not. For the last one i played, cataclysm, which was also probably the weakest, they reworked many maps, all the questing system, added new maps (cant remember if 3 or 4 big maps), a few raids (3 core and 2 small ones, i think), quite a few dungeons (6?), new pvpve map, and many things i dont recall. And that was a weak wow expansion. They did much better for wotlk, or burning crusade. They dont need to taunt people to buy their expansions, just to put put quality content.
Gw2 expansions, on the other hand? For a game that was such a big hype ball before launch, they are keeping it really quiet now. I wonder if its because they dont have much to show….
You can whine about $50 for expansion being too expensive – well for me it is normal price of expansion of AAA title.
Yes, but is this the expansion of an AAA title?
I mean, so far, what do we know about this expansion? too little….
what an interesting post!
for solo qeue, I usually focus on what everybody else seems to forget: you have to cap points.
So i always go to the uncontested point and cap it. That’s my priority. If the point is guarded by a squishy, i also take it. If it’s guarded by a cele, then you better forget it. You can beat celes, but they will most likely get help in the time it takes you to kill them and you will lose. better join your team in that case.
As for team fights, you should actively seek them if:
- the numbers are even or will get even
- you don’t have to engage first
- your leech is off cd
- you have full life force
just don’t jump into the battle like crazy, you will get focused and shred to pieces.
leech is great in crossfire situations. That means, when the enemy is not watching out for it. A thief can be downed with just one shot. Same goes for mesmers and dps guardians.
dagger/wh is great to shred downed players and those trying to revive them. Just get on top of them, well bomb, and cut them good. one i downed 2 players and killed the downed one doing this.
oh, and i know i lose a lot of team fight power, but i like the axe/focus much better than the staff. More life force generation, and that damage spike gets people downed.
I want to say that if condition builds become a thing, the desirable stat will almost certainly be Sinister, maybe with some mix of Rabid/Dire, so IMO you wouldn’t end up wasting CoF dungeon tokens on Zerker armor, because you wouldn’t be using them to get Carrion or Rampager’s gear (the other two stat array available with CoF tokens) for PvE meta anyway.
^^ exactly this
Unless you wanna do some high level fractal there is no reason to craft ascended armor and most exotic equipement are cheap.
Even for high level fractals, ascended armor is not mandatory.
I have 2 infused rings, and the infused backpiece. (45 AR)
then the other 3 trinkets (15 AR)
ascended dagger (5 AR)
ascended focus (5 AR)
That totals 70 AR. I can swap these weapons between all my toons (the ones that can use dagger/focus anyway). I couldn’t do that with the armor. Also, having ascended weapons is good, as it’s like a 5% damage increase. Armor means a miserable damage increase.
Still, the ascended backpiece costs like 250g, 50g each 10AR infusion…. that’s 500g, and around 50g per ascended weapon (of which i have 3) means 650g spent just to be able to do fractal 50. So much for not gating your content behind a grind wall, anet.
Yeah, the current price of some of the older skins is absolutely ridiculous.
I hope no one is actually paying that amount for them…
if you look at the bids, the supply and the demand strongly disagree on the value of those rare skins. 3k g for that ugly aether staff is ridiculous. And the only guy who has it spent 150g just to list the skin!
I’m on the fence because I think every zone should have long term goals like trying to unlock armor set. Silverwaste lets you unlock both a normal (Carapace) and a pimped out version (Luminescent). If every zone had a armor / pimped armor associated (or rather 3 armors. Light, Medium, Heavy) I think many zones like Timberlane Falls and Lonars Pass would have a lot more action. That would be really cool. But 25 zones x3 armors is a lot of new armors.
It could be done easier.
Make that not 3 sets of armor per map, but one outfit per zone.
Shiverpeak
Ascalon
Kryta
Orr
Maguuma
But it would be too much to ask. This game usually doesnt reward playing, just farming.
Regarding warning the description states that the item is unique .
Unique may mean many things. They need to be more clear with things like this. I completely understand the op’s rage. I learned of this uniqueness by chance, with drops from fractals, but i would have been really kittened. If i had learnt the hard way.
It is very expensive.
The only way to make that much money is farming your kitten off. You can probably make around 10g an hour, so you need a whole working day to buy your bag.
But trust me. You don’t need that extra bag. It will be full with junk in no time. There’s never enough inventory space for the amount of crap this game throws at you.
If you just have one level 40, managing your inventory shouldnt be that hard. Salvage all the gear you will not use. Vendor all the junk at each opportunity. That’s it. Oh, and buy at least 15slot bags!
I think this change is your typical necro hate product.
They give us a slow hitting weapon that chills, and everybody else the chance to disengage even more effectively.
It would be fine if they applied this sort of balance ideas to every other proffesiion, except they don’t. As a result, necros end up sucking big time.
There’s lots of stuff to do…but there’s nothing you have to do.
That’s quite true and many people interpret that as a lack of content. When in fact Anet basically lets you pick your own goals and reach them at your own pace.
That’s my line of thinking precisely.
A lot of people seem to be needlessly throwing around the “lack of content” phrase without truly understanding what it means.
It means exactly what it means.
Content is things to do. No stuff to get.
For example: the wvw achievements aren’t content. You get them by repeating what you have been doing from level 1 ad nauseam.
Legendaries aren’t content: you get them by farming mats and gold. You farm the mats and gold by doing exactly the same stuff you were doing before you reached lvl 80.
The living story is new content indeed. And even some of the achievements of the ls can be considered more new content, as they force you to change your approach to certain encounters.
Fractals can be considered new content with every level, even though it gets tedious to go from lvl 1 to thirty something where the fun starts.
This game has some end game content, and tries to incorporate the map into that endgame, which i love (i hate the empty maps of other mmos), but it could do with a lot of improvement.
I mean the gold is great yeah but what happened to exploring the world? doing dungeons? learning the story? This game has so much to offer. I know some people from my country that does the farm and sell gold for real money…. wtf.
People will do whatever they want, no matter what you think is better. And people will find other things to farm if they nerf the maize balms. BTW, thanks for trying to ruin it. I assume you have many stacks of halloween bags waiting to go up in price if the nerf happens.
With a drop rate of 0,7% you have a 83% chance to get the precursor (using rares of 30s).
Pretty high chance, but its a lot of money and the chance of gettin zip is still too high…
A specific skill cannot be considered a hard counter. A whole proffesion is.
I think we dont hard counter anything, though we give thieves and mesmers a run for their money. Our ability to hit multiple targets at once, hit stealth targets, and endure quite a kot of damage means they should die to our aoe alone. Of course they can disengage, and come back to kill us with our main tricks on cd.
I’m not afraid of instanced content because I can’t beat it. I’m not afraid of instanced content at all. I just don’t find at as fun.
Well, i don’t know which aspects of this game you do like then, seeing that:
open world: instanced maps.
Dungeons: small, instanced maps
pvp: instanced conquest battles
wvwvw: instanced server against server maps.
Know what I think this game needs?
Something WoW and other games have done for a long time to help balance DoT classes.
A condition that, when cleansed, deals a spike of damage and is high on the cleanse priority. Hell, I’d make it a grandmaster trait for necros, just cause I think that it fits our ‘role’ as a condi class, in that we’re better at controlling them than we are at actually applying them.
Make it effect the cleanser, not necessarily the person the condi was on. Be able to apply it in an AoE. That way, big AoE-cleanse spammers might take massive damage spikes if they mindlessly press buttons. Meanwhile, classes that don’t use a whole lot of cleanse, and do so judiciously, take a much more comfortable amount and aren’t as put out by it.
Or maybe a new condition which deals damage whenever that target cleanses a condi
however many condis cleansed —> that much damage.
That would be lethal…. For necros!
Really,i would mean they could apply a condition on you and, when you needed to heal, it would kill you! Or you would have to forget about consume conditions, one of our stronger skills.
Which is part of why I suggested it the way I suggested it.
It’d be fairly small for something like Consume Conditions, since it’s a personal cleanse. AoE cleanses would be where it would be dangerous.
still… another necro casts signet of spite on you, and you better have a way to transfer those conditions before you heal (and trasnfer shouldn’t count as cleanse) or you are dead.
Don’t confuse me with the other guy.
I was talking about a flat amount of damage for cleansing, not per-condi. So if you cleanse one person, yourself, you take say… 500-800 damage. Meh, nothing too serious really. Most classes can do more than that with an auto attack. This is whether you cleanse one condition or fifty, still the same amount.
But if you pop an AoE cleanse and hit three or four people, you suddenly take more like 2000-2500 damage. That’s a not-insignificant amount, but not so much that it can by itself turn a fight around. You do this three or four times without thinking, though, and you could get yourself in a bad way.
Oh, so you mean you would punish cleansing many people instead of just yourself. Well, while it would actually help conditions regain he top spot in pvp, it also works heavily against the phylosophy of this game’s gameplay: act as a team. As a necro though, the one class completely oblivious to the game’s mechanics, i say ‘bring it on’!
I mean, if we cannot be team players, let’s punish those who are….
ima gonna be sad if we cant play a viable condi necro for pvp without being steamrolled.
Condi nec is still a viable spec unles the enemy team’s playing with at least 3 shoutbows. It’s not in a good place, but it’s not as bad as people portray it in this topic (unless you want to participate in weekly cups). It’s just not an easy build.
it’s not bad to tip the balance of a team fight in your favor, if you really stay behind and avoid being focused, but still…. there’s better ways to help your team than by being terror necro.
Know what I think this game needs?

The only thing it doesnt factor in is frost spirit. Not sure if spotter gets added in. But banners definitely get included when a warrior is selected.
Dodging, healing and res’ing are irrelevant. This just shows ideal numbers in optimal situations. It can be used to give a good estimate and comparison between builds and classes. Obviously in game you will see different results. But with so many variables, ideal controlled calculations are the best way to compare.
why do you say frost spirit isn’t factored? so the more than 10% increase in damage because of the ranger, comes from Spotter only?
No im saying that the calculator doesnt factor in frost spirit. Im guessing the guy who made it forgot. And yes it probably is just spotter. If you change to a ranger build with no traited spirit but more personal dps the group dps increases. So obviously something has been done incorrectly. Then again it could just be that its using a traited frost spirit even on builds that dont have it. Either way the calculator isnt perfect.
well, probably the guy forgot to take the traited spirit damage increase into account. I mean, i still find it hard to believe that just by bringing spotter the dps gain is so high.
The meta party i found using the calculator would have a ps warrior, an ele, a thief, an engineer and…. a ranger!
oh, i also find it hard to believe that only engineers seem to be able to apply vulnerability with some consistency, and ps warriors seem to be the only ones that grant might with some consistency (while a scepter/dagger conjurer ele should be also more than decent at it).
I am always wary of calculators. They present ideal numbers. In this case, the calculator assumes 100 per cent dps time and does not count healing, dodging, and res’ing time, nor does it count might or other boon sharing.
Your own empirical results are probably better.
how can it take all those things you propose into account?
besides, burn phases are really important in this game, and you don’t heal/dodge/res during a burn phase.
and the fact it doesn’t count boon sharing is actually beneficial to necros, as we have zero boons to share.
A Necromancer isn’t bad. You’re just stuck in the same place as Ranger and others …
No you are not. Rangers do almost the same damage as necromancers, until you factor in the party dps increase. It’s more than 10% per party member, and rangers accomplish it by just standing there. That means that rangers, account for around 40% more dps than necros.

PvE
Most of the PvE big damage that actually matters comes from reflects. Anybody who doesn’t have these is bottom tier.
What? no. If that was the case, the meta would be 5 guardians/mesmers.
Save for a few encounters, the really big damage that can end a combat in seconds comes from frost bow.
The only thing it doesnt factor in is frost spirit. Not sure if spotter gets added in. But banners definitely get included when a warrior is selected.

would you rather they charged for all the living story updates, giving all the skins they have launched in the gem store as rewards for completing the achievements?
I play in Drakkar See, which by the German language community has been selected as the unofficial role-play server.
My character is Asura and me and other Asura players had a role-play meeting where we pretended to be in a bar in Rata Sum.
Suddenly there comes a Norn player and putts his character on the counter, just stands there and disturbs.
Other players sometimes like to jump around us and spam effects when we role-play.Why is there no possibility to turn such players off, so that you do not see them anymore?
Or give us the possibility to make a screenshot and report them.Is this game meant for role-players or is it not?
I understand that players who enjoy role-play are a minority, but why must we suffer such harassment?
one: this is not a roleplaying game, and i no way encourages role play. You are welcome to do whatever you want, though.
two: if someone is harrasing you, report him.
you probably should investigate a bit more.
It’s true that weapon skills don’t change with specialization.
But warrior still can be pure dps GS/axe-mace, or mostly pure support GS (phalanx strength and banners)
Instead of changing the weapon skills, you get to change the utilities and favour certain weapon skills over others that become situational.
Most proud of item/title wise:
Dungoneer/liandri/luminescent and the 60+ other titles (still aiming to catch up to Mal)
8x level 80’s all geared and with nice looks.
2000+ skins.
Only being at 17k AP because I missed/just didn’t do about 2 years worth of dailies through laziness.
I guess my bi-frost too making it myself (have the mats saved for 2 more, waiting to see if the HoT legendaries are worth it.)Moment wise:
Being one of the commanders for our servers first Marionette clear.
Same for our first max tier citizen rescue during the battle for lions arch.and due to a d/c and glitch during the Scarlet fight during the battle of the breach maker. Fighting Scarlet solo while the whole map shouted encouragement (failed horrifically only got her down to stage 2/3 then it became impossible to solo).
The fact that even after 7k hours, i dont get bored with playing warrior.
The fact you play 7h on average in one game every day sounds rather unhealthy…
It’s potentially possible to do that even with a full time job, 24 hours allow 3 for travel/food/toilet etc. , leaves 7 hours for work , 7 hours for sleep , 7 hours for gaming. If you’re single or have a gamer S/o it can count as your social aspect too. You also have weekends which can be up to 16 hours.
leaving aside that it’s potentially possible, there’s so much you could do with 7 hours every day…. So much! There’s a whole world out there, much more complex and compelling than tyria, and passing on it, unless you have a very good reason, is almost a crime.
I don’t have nothing to be proud of, save for the fact i still play for fun.
Items you get in this game are more a certificate that you wasted enough time, than something to be proud of (the liadri mini is the exception, but i just hated how that encounter was designed (semi transparent floor that makes it difficult to see the areas, fighting close to walls that make your camera go crazy). I should have farmed more tickets to give it a try, though.
PVE wise, the wicked rodeo achievement was really hard to get and something to be proud of. Dodgy crowd was also a headache, but more because you had to restart the whole story if you failed than because of the difficulty.
I do a decent fractal guardian.
Once, i got 46 trebuchet hits in one pvp match. And never got help from my team defending the treb. I succesfully fended off the poor thief that was trying to bring me down and his useless guardian friend, again and again. But they were bad. I do have good aim with the treb, though XD.
The fact that even after 7k hours, i dont get bored with playing warrior.
How do you play 7 hours a day average?
Does your day come with 30 hours?
Made over 100 precursors in the Mystic Forge
I really don’t know whether to believe this or not. lol But I lean toward skepticism.
if you have enough money, it’s perfectly doable.
The chance of getting a precursor for 500g ‘invested’ in the mystic froge lays around 90%.
it’s a high stakes game, though, so you don’t want to play if unless you are really rich, meaning you have more than enough money to offset a bad streak. If you can make 5 precursors, it means you already have enough money to make 10, 20, 50 or 100. The tedious, though, must be amazing.
right now, most of the game mechanics do not meld well with necros. Once they design content that is more accessible, where what players can do for a group is valuable, people will be looking at classes in terms of what they can bring to the table.
Oh, it’s the reverse, actually.
Right now, necros don’t meld well with most of the game mechanics.
Blast finishers? only if you bring useless minions or not on demand (staff 4)
Combo fields? We have the most useless ones, and they tend to overwrite the useful ones limiting your damage output if you want to place them at the right time.
Offensive utility? Necros have zero.
Defensive utility? Protection only by sacrificing dps and negating the group’s ability to gain might via fire fields (might not be so bad if a PS warrior provides might).
Any other type of support? Blinds, might come handy for hard trash packs.
CCs: yes. But the problem is, CC is not effective against bosses. and, when it is, then elementalists provide the only cc the group needs.
Rather than saying that the whole game and all other professions don’t meld with necros, it’s quite obvious that the people designing necros went for something totally different. Something for another game. The result is a worthless profession for group content.
