Legendary Crafting Not Worth It...

Precursor crafting was NEVER intended as an easier way of crafting a precursor.

Did you seriously think you would be able to just go out and craft every single precursor like it’s no big deal?

it sure shouldn’t have been intended as a bigger gold investment than buying the precursor from the TP.

Lets see your Necromancers/Reapers!

If you really want a contest… tell you what…
Bloomhunger, Captain Ashym, Old Tom and last Champion Grawl Shaman…

That would prove nothing. Well, if I, using an elementalist, wich is like my fourth proffesion, manage to beat your dps, then it would really prove something (at least for me), But, as I said, i would need perfect positioning, which i don’t have as i am not that experienced. .

Besides, as i said, this higher dps stuff is just the potential and calculated against non mobile targets that are not trying to kill you while in a real situation, being tanky and maintaining constant dps could yield better results. For example, verdant bring events can be cleaned really fast solo with the necro, while with the elementalist it requires carefully picking the targets in order to avoid being kittened.

I love them, I got all the minions with death and blood magic and enemies never even touch me. Maybe in pvp they suck cuz players are smart enough to ignore the minions but I think its really awesome playing with them

Necros deal subpar damage (in ideal situations). You are glad that enemies kill your pets instead of you, but other professions can survive as well, with good positioning and timing of their skills. In a perfect scenario, being tanky at the expense of less damage is not a good idea.

Just try to use an elementalist and you will see the very noticeable difference in damage. If you can position yourself as to constantly deal damage without dodging all the time and interrupting your own casts, you will deal significantly more damage than with the necro.

I’m curious to know if you actually tested the creatures in HoT? because, the fruits of your labor are screaming “I was never tested for real-in-game-testing”.

Smokescales: Just slap some power nerfs on these guys and they should be fine, but seriously, so much evading it is ridiculous.

Master Gwyllion: WTF are you thinking!? His mechanics don’t even make sense!! He instakills the whole group, and he takes a massive group to kill him apparently. I have yet to see a successful group yet. He needs a way to be dodged or something. He shouldn’t do 100k damage to go through deathshroud and full health in one hit. the smokescales don’t help. Needs a massive rework.

Any Enemy Frog dude: Shadowstepping is way too broken. Not too mention the amount of stabbings they do you cannot dodge. Let me tell you it sucks. You need to pull back on whatever super damage ideas you have. They instant drop on you and you only get 2 dodges.

Mordrem dissentors (I believe that is what they are called): They are in the instance that get’s you the guild hall. Outrun the fastest player and kills them in 3 hits no matter who they are. I wish I was joking. I don’t know why you guys are obsessed with killing players so much. anyone not a professional player gets wiped on the floor.

I’m begging you guys. Please fix these. These are the most obvious. Bugs exist and I understand that. Just please tone it down or give us buffs!! Please!!

shadowscales are great, veteran ones even make you think twice before engaging them. the regular ones die very quickly and shoulnd’t be a problem unless you stay in the smoke area, in which case you deserve a problem.

Precursor collections are the result of all the discussions on a precursor scavenger hunt.

They weren’t supposed to make precursors cheaper or easier to get, only to give an alternative for people who don’t like the idea of buying one (or waiting for RNG).

if you don’t want to wait for rng, then you can buy if, for sure, from the TP.

so, i guess, the precursor crafting is there for people that feel buying the precursor is not a waste of time big enough, and want to spend even more time farming for more gold, and then even more more time doing the silly things the precursor crafting requires (that, surprise surprise! also involves rng and farming)

i was at the fence on buying it from the tp, but after seeing the cost in materials i just decided crafting was not worth it and spent 950g before prices go up again.

i could be totally wrong and prices may collapse in the coming month, but anyway, it’s just gold from a stupid game. Nothing is wasted here.

It’s doable but not comfortable, eh (completely subjective!). I switched to valkyrie armor + zerk trinkets for the jungle. So much more funner, you can pay less attention. lol.

And how paying less attention ís more fun?

Berserker is more than tanky, actuañly, i am now seeking the enemies to kick their kitten , as opposed to vanilla gw2 where fighting the mobs was boring and mindnumbing.

Well, requiring most of my attention at all times in a game is less than ideal for my lifestyle. I’m sorry if I do not fit your definition of fun; I usually have people around the house when I play, and I interact often. looking away for a sec and coming back with a downed toon is not fun for me. I’m really sorry. I’ll start switching my gear to berserker right away.

do what you want, but for me, a game that doesn’t require my attention is a game that doesn’t catch my attention.

Hey look, I switched to berserker gear already :P. I didn’t know promoting non-berserker builds still causes all this fuss. I did say that it was completely subjective, it should be noted the “fun” is obviously subjective. No need to attack other people’s ideals, geez.

Hey OP, I tried a sinister build in the jungle today. Completely fine for me now, except when I run out of dodges against pesky mushrooms! Definitely have to watch my routes!

Woah, relax a bit, will you? I couldnt give a kitten what gear you wear. I was just puzzled that people find it more fun when there’s no opposition. It’s like playing a football match against a team with 6 less players. For me it woulndt be fun, i guess for you it would. I dont have a problem with it, i just find it weird. Sorry for expressing my opinion.

GW2 the best PC MMO of the last 4 years.

Aenesthesia.1697

That’s deserved. MMORPGs are bad games.

MMORPG players have taught developers that they don’t need to make fun games or good games. Players are willing to go through content they don’t even enjoy as long as they get some reward out of it, be it more gold, more levels or even more skins.

Oh, I don’t know. WoW was, during the 3 years I played it, fun most of the time. Specially the raiding (and probably because i could try to beat my own dps marks in the content we were repeating)

It sure had a lot of boring stuff that was there just so lazy people could waste their time, but except fishing while waiting for the raid to assemble, i completely ignored the boring-by-design stuff.

What wow is definitely guilty of, is leaving player interaction with the environment out of the picture. In wow all you can do is kill the environment, and it respawns, so nothing changes.

GW2 took it to the extreme and erased player interaction. The only thing you can do to another player is resurrect him and buff him. But not attack him. Keeping the pve and pvp appart wastes a lot of potential, since the pvp maps have no lore and are pretty boring.

I don’t think gw2 is the best mmo of the past 3 years. All i see is people farming this, or farming that. i had a heck of a lot more fun with wow than with this game. (i quit wow because i could no longer commit 2 hours a day, everyday, for raiding, and wow is a lousy single player game)

Precursor crafting. I don't get it . . .

Honestly, obtaining legendary weapons should be a hunting process, not a gathering process. ……There should be other processes for obtaining legendary weapons; there should be rumors about them, maps to last known locations, battles, quests, ghosts of previous owners, battles with current owners, and more. Maybe obscenely long and challenging tasks that require groups to complete. But not crafting.

^ this is what people expected out of the legendary journey. A journey.

Arenanet only knows how to do farming and map design, so instead of a legendary journey, they gave us a legendary farm and, even worse, they charged us for it.

I have a theory about anet being some kind of evil genie that grants wishes in a twisted way that ends up kittening the guy who found the bottle, but i already posted it and it already got stealth removed…

So I heard that Necromancer(Reaper) will definitely be used in raids thanks to Gravedigger. I don’t really play necro due to being in Speedclear guilds, but they are saying that once the boss hits 50% necros will have some of the highest dps. What do you guys think about this?

frankly, i have yet to see a gravedigger hit for more than 15k.

The tooltip says it’s 1,25 secs to cast, but i suspect they forgot to include the aftercast. Anyway, being generous, 15k in 1,25 secs is 12k dps, which is great, but you have to be able to complete the long casts without dodging or dying…

It’s not hard at all to hit 20k+ Gravediggers in group content settings, and 30k when a mob is broken.

the mob would have to have really low armor, and if the mob is broken ok, the damage spikes, but you cannot take that into account for dps calculations, you barely get 2 gravediggers while the boss is broken…

Be careful with Patchwerk-style analysis. When it comes to conditions, the peak DPS performance occurs when they hit the upper bound of their condi stacks and it rolls. If any fight disruption causes those to drop, how long does it take to get back to that point? Ramp-up time should be a serious consideration in a game that has the potential to be more active like GW2. You might be dodging, the boss might go invulnerable, etc. Gravedigger spam does not give a single lick about ramping back up, because it is constantly balling at its most outrageous. Dhuumfire stacking will take a few seconds to ramp up, as will might/vuln self-stacks (if they are necessary).

I think you got it backwards….

if you dodge and you cannot keep applying conditions, it will be so for 1 sec and you will only lose 1 or 2 stacks, not all your stacks.

If you have to interrupt gravedigger to dodge or heal, you lose 100% of the damage for that second, plus whatever time into the animation you were at.

Conditions benefit from fights where you can’t keep hitting the boss 100% of the time.

Posts like these are equal to that of the “20k DPS ele” posts: they are useless. They are misleading and false. Not only is that number not achievable in any realistic scenario, the numbers aren’t even close.

They are useless if you don’t know what to do with them.

Posts like these serve, for example, to compare the sustained damage of the gs with the dagger, and decide that the gs sucks big time when the enemy is above 50% health.

And then, even below 50% health, you can compare damage and see that lich#1 is stronger than gravedigger, and you don’t have to stay in melee with you terribly slow skill that makes you waste a lot of dps if you have to dodge.

Also, posts like these serve to realise that if you trait dhuumfire and spam reaper shroud#1 you can out dps anything else you have if you enemy’s armor is above 2600 (in the case you are wearing berserker in a fight with high armor foes. Not recommended, but sometimes, specially in open world, you run into foes with high armor and cannot change your gear).

Come on, go and tell Gauss that his maths are only theory and the real world knows better…..

Not to that extreme, but the weapon skins are supposed to be launched to make people spend gems. CONTENT thats what makes and breaks MMORPG…..not story mode lol.

Sorry, but you are wrong.

Content is paramount? yes, it is. But there has to be a reason for the content to exist, and the story provides that reason. If the story is weak, there’s no immersion and the mmo turns quickly into an mindless farm. Well, since the gw2 community likes farming so much (as can be seen by the nonstop farm in SW, COF, Orr) you could make a case in that anet catters to its audience….

As for the story, this xpac was ridiculous. It started well with some cool cutscenes, but the whole idea (oh, this unbeatable dragon just destroyed a whole fleet, let’s walk in and kill the bugger by hand!) is incredibly absurd.

Then the story began losing quality with worse cutscenes, rushed parts, zero development of things that had potential (the sylvary and their predicament). I think there was more lore in the trailer than in the whole story.

And then, the main problem, what’s the point of magus falls from now on? Why do mordrem keep attacking verdant brink? Mordremmoth is dead!

The story should have progressed together with our exploration of the maps. I haven’t seen half of dragon’s stand because the story led me directly into mordremmoth’s mind. Now there is a jungle open for exploration and, i guess, mordrem to fight, only there shouldn’t be mordrem left now their master has been defeated. They are making the same mistake they did with Orr…..

I wouldn’t consider it squishy. I almost never die, especially since i have a quick escape with RS#2. Also, rise does wonders with survivability.

The only thing i don’t like is i find it pretty weak against tough mobs. if you have to range, axe sucks big time. If you can mele, gs doesn’t cut it for sustained damage.

I think this build works well for clearing packs of mobs and little else.

I’m giving up, this is more like Dark Souls online then GW2, it’s a horrible experience to try and play this solo.

The shift in game style from the core game is like day and night, you go from a fun, solo casual, game to hardcore, group only in a second.

You go from a boring, mind-numbing 1 click autoattack fest to semi fun, active combat in which your enemies don’t all do the same attacks, and you have to take down the heavy hitters first.

And you’ve never played dark souls, it seems.

hint: if your character cannot survive a stun, then you are probably carrying the wrong gear?

Solo players cannot advance in the new content, and any decent publisher would disclose such a fundamental change prior to taking your money.

what do you mean you cannot advance? I have done the personal story till tangled depths and so far i may have died once.

If you mean you cannot complete the open world events, i have also soloed those (except for the ones with the champions on a timer, or the wyvern, but those are not meant to be soloed).

Heck, i’ve mapped all of verdant brink with only two traits unlocked in the elite spec.

And i am far from a hardcore player. I don’t have my legendary yet, i don’t have 20k achievement points, i am not dragon in pvp.

just don’t run head on into stuff you don’t know, fight in high ground, have always an escape plan, and don’t try to solo the champions for chrissakes!

Also, in events, go always for the snippers first, and dodge the bombers that oneshot you.

I think that all this complaining comes from people running glass cannon builds, meant for organised groups, into a pack full of mobs with stuns, evades, blinds… one does not simply do that!

Hybrid reaper could be a thing. I have to do some numbers, but applying burns with duumfire in reaper shroud is a piece of cake. I wonder if the damage output is enough, though…….

So Reaper’s that strong eh? Thought about just going full sceptre with spite curses and SR, foregoing the reaper in favor of ranged might stacking and dhuumfire for DP. Fury+Sinister+DP would add up to just about 100% I believe… I just really dislike melee. I dont know, I always get hammered Into the ground by something I get to close to it or spend half the time dodging stuff like a madman… talk about dps uptime. If I can’t make ranged nec work I believe I will try a ranger instead since the global ranger hatred is down aswell.

no, i’m not saying it is THAT strong. Just suggesting it could be a thing. I think that maybe hybrid is not a great idea since the change to the condi cap. It’s more flexible than either zerk and pure condi, but without reaching the condition cap, there is no reason to go direct damage and, if there was (meaning direct damage would be higher than conditions) then why go conditions in the first place?

Most people do not want DPS meters. They do not help you get better, playing the game helps you get better, having the “meta” stats and builds that lend them self’s to max DPS will help you do better, only if you are not currently using them. Also some classes do more DPS. So a DPS meter is not a good tool to help people get better, as some classes will never hit the same numbers as others.

no, having the meta stats and build only allows you to max dps against a piñata boss.

In a long fight, where the boss has time to actually do something other than dying, your meta build may do a lot less damage than some suposedly third rate build, just because that build adapts to the fight better and is able to get closer to its full potential.

A recount tool would help me chose my own build, instead of having to watch boring videos of people that took the time to measure the build’s efectiveness.

I’ve never seen a DPS meter that properly assigned a portion of a character’s damage done to the person who made that possible via buffs. Or one that said after you took fatal damage but didn’t go down very point you did for the rest of the fight belongs to your healer…

There’s usually a healer recount, too. The main role of the dps is to do dps. As long as he stays alive, kicking kitten, he is doing his job. The healer saving his butt is also doing his job and shoulnd’t be credited for the damage he is not doing.

On the other hand, recount never showed the effect of buffs, but people always knew that bloodlust/heroism were a must

In this game without a dedicated tank/healer/dps setup, skills like group buffs, crowd control and similar are even more important to the performance of a 5-man-team, and individual damage can be heavily impacted by these soft group-related skills. How do you rate a player that doesn’t do top personal damage, but buffs the whole group to do even more damage? While they boost the overall group damage at the cost of personal damage, there’s no way to objectively measure and rate this contribution.

in those other games there are also support skills being used, and some fights call for higher burst damage at the expense of lower sustained damage. The people who know this take the results with a pinch of salt and use them mainly for self improvement.

Here, we don’t have a recount, so the natural born bashers bash professions and builds they think are not optimal in a perfect scenario, while combat in this game with no dedicated tanks or healers means the scenario is as far from perfect as can be imagined.

Kitten, i’ve seen metazerk warirors ranging bosses with a rifle in fractals.

i’d give it a 1, or 2.

0 out of ten. It has potential, if it was a multiplayer game. So far, i don’t know where everybody has gone to, but i am roaming the maps and coming across 1, or 2 people if im lucky. This was supposed to be an mmo, for crissakes. Where’s everybody? This is the dealbreaker for me.

8 out of ten. The story is great so far, but i have to grind more in order to advance, so haven’t seen it all yet.

4/10. The maps are dissapointing. There’s a lot of detail, and they are beautiful, but they promised these were not just maps, but biomes, and verdant brink was far from that. you fall from a cliff and you quietly glide down to… an empty place with no way out. How cool is that? Zero, actually.

Also, everything feels way more ‘corridory’ than the original game. In central tyria every map is full of little details you are not forced through. If you explore, you will find, but here, you are basically following the path or gliding. There’s nothing outside the path.

4/10 Elites: well, leaving aside the fact you have to grind exp to unlock the mastery points you need to spend to unlock the access to the hero points you need to grind in order to unlock the elite skills, the only one i’ve tried so far (reaper) seems gimmicky and potentially useless in serious pve. Sure, it works for clearing open world packs of mobs, but any serious boss is going to destroy you before you can say ‘gravedigger’!
The fact that, out of my 7 toons, i could unlock the elite in only one, doesn’t help much.

OPTIONAL WORK IS NOT GRIND

Every piece of content they added in this expansion is gated behind a mastery wall.

Storyline. Collections (hardly can be considered content, but also gated).
Elite specs.
Map exploration.
New fractal levels.
Raids.
Guild halls.

You can argue that the revenant is not gated, but his elite is, so there you go….

So, you are right, optional work is not a grind. The problem is this is not optional, it’s MANDATORY.

I agree with the rest of your post though. Masteries are a good way of improving your character past lvl 80, as long as it remains optional.

And because it makes new open world content easy: drop wells —> gravedigger —> loot. (add the gs#4 if you fear you might get stuneed, and do some damage in reaper shroud before gravedigging if the enemy has a big health pool)

But yeah, it looks lackluster. If you can stand in a single spot casting slow attacks without taking any damage, why not use a thief instead?

Nemesis’s videos summary: blah blah blah, everybody is wrong i’m right.

thank god, i was going to start a thread myself. Where is everybody?

Verdant brink: ok, i saw people doing the wyvern event. After that, only roamers. See a commander sign? it’s just this lone guy trying to beat a champion (we kill it just the 2 of us).

All my experience in verdant brink was a very lonely one. I got prompted to a more populated map twice, only to be put in another desserted map.

Auric bassin is working better so far, but not by much. Still haven’t been able to complete the first easy hero point because no one else shows up.

Where is everybody? farming the halloween events?

Anet is like the evil genie that grants your wishes in a way that you end up wishing you never wished anything in the first place.

You don’t want grind? here, have this farm that’s going to make grind look like fun and exciting.

You don’t like to farm high level raids in order to get the cool gear? Don’t worry! You don’t get raids in GW2 vanilla. And you may be wondering, where’s the cool gear? oops, you don’t get it either. But did we mention you can farm for years for a chance to get this cool loking, unicorn shooting bow?

You are tired of the unending farm? presto! have this horrendous grind instead. Now you get to fill your xp bar for the millionth time, so you can get access to the cool things you just paid 45€ for. Oh, and no gold for you of course. What did you want all that gold for anyway?

Fancy that nice looking greatsword? You can have it!…. after you grind your xp bar till you max that mastery you didn’t want in the first place.

I could keep like this all day, but it would be better if you people were more cautious with your wishes…

You like it?! Post something!

I know, I know, you’d rather be playing than posting. Just take 5 minutes of your time. You don’t have to spend hours here like the crying keyboard warriors.

If you wanted to make a ‘praise the xpac’ topic, why didn’t you do it? I

Instead, you had to attack people giving their feedback on this game. I do like things about the xpac, some things i don’t, but i am not following your game for sure.

I dont think the elite spec grind can be considered a grind at all. Grinding involves repeating the same task many times and you dont have that here. Also, its expected that the players complete the content thats being thrown at them, which naturally leads to people leveling their elite.

The problem?

Many rush the content skipping parts, and then complain about lack of content. I imagine the new cost of the elites is anet making sure peopleactually play the content before complaining of the lack of it?

4.) Don’t try to tell me that there is no leveling, when there totally is. Don’t try to sell me the whole “But your level isn’t going up!” BS because it’s insulting. Instead of your actual XP bar going up, your XP is replaced by Hero points. In order to gain these hero points you gotta do the challenges in HoT. The only difference is that certain things give you this type of “XP” instead of everything. Honestly, I would have rather had the level grind and the gear grind back rather than this embarrassment.

Why? I mean, why would you prefer to level, say, 10 more levels, making all your gear obsolete in the process, instead of having this system (masteries and hero points) where you are actually improving your character without turning your gear into trash in the process? I’d very much have this grind instead of a level grind.

I understand the frustration of not being able to try your new elite spec, heck, of all my characters, i was only able to unlock it with one of them (the one that had map completion), and mastery xp seems to go up way slower than i’d like but, as a concept, i like the idea to be able to improve my character past the level cap.

So….there’s no defensive stat? Dodge, parry, block, etc? Basically, you dodge or you can die? That seems to leave my Thief with two stats only, is that the same for the other classes?

Dodge and blocks are active, meaning you either use them or eat damage. Your idea of whats intuitive and what isnt is a bit weird.

‘Oh, theres one big punch headed my way! I’ll just stand still and hope my tshirt procs a dodge so i can avoid being knocked out’

Most Difficult Fractal

In your guys opinions what is the most difficult Fractal?

For me it would have to be Fire Shaman. That last boss fight with a pug group is horrendous.

Fire shaman is kitten but having a good comp with reflects makes it easy.

The most difficult i’ve suffered was cliffside at lvl 39. It was like a ping. Pong match, and we were the ball…..

They said that new skins are coming our way, to replace the ones that are going.

But they also said no new armor skins would be added to the gemstore.

Hmmm.

I feel for you, op. My only serious attempt at rping in this game was greeted with a wall of hate in the rp forums.

But, them again, during my casual role play, if the person i am talking to spends 2 minutes to reply, i will most likely fall asleep. I only get to play late and sometimes i fall asleep during loading screens, so it’s nothing against slow typers.

Try breaking your speech in parts, so the other guy has something to do while you type…

there isn’t a skill that prevents a warrior’s eviscerate

Hello, my name is DODGE.

The problem with stealth is that there is little to no counter to it. Reveal will provide a hard counter (too hard, by the looks of it) and, of course, thieves will have to be completely rebalanced to take this into account. Otherwise, it will be seriously nerfing thieves.

But look on the bright side of life, this will seriously kitten Mesmers

My disappointment with guilds :/

By now you are probably rolling around laughing at how naive that notion was.

Not at all. In a game with challenging raids, it’s necessary to get a lot of people to play at the same time, with some sort of planning and tactics. what you thought guilds were, can be found in those games (WOW, for example).

GW2 is about running the same old dungeon for the 300th time, or farming the same old spot for the 400th time, and ocasionally doing the new content that’s been designed as a solo challenge.

You don’t need a guild for that, you don’t need to coordinate with anyone, you just tag along, solo qeue, or whatever. It is liberating in the sense you get to play when you want how you want, but yeah, it turns guilds into just a group of people that sort of get along well…

Ok in gw2 when you have made it all the way to silver springs and the Final mission in the cave and that dragon I feel it is to hard for 2 players my guild is small LOL to beat it after 3 days of trying we finally killed that sucker and went through the video etc.

it’s not so difficult if you know what to do. I died, looked up how to kill the flame snuffing thingies, and succeeded in the next try.

Some of the achievements however, are quite difficult but fun. It’s one of those things where hard means fun and not frustration. You fail, yes, but you have fun while trying so you try again.

The dodgy crowd from the centaurs part, on the other hand, is one of those parts of the game where you get frustrated and you don’t have fun, and on top of that the game punishes you with endless minutes of boring dialogue for failing.

Is there even a point in thief anymore?

So nerf thief more even though it’s the worst class in the game atm, and not let the QQers learn that they need to learn how to play against a class that stealths, which would be bettering the community and creating smarter players?

Lol, worst class? You have unparalelled mobility, burst and can control 1on1s at will (engaging/disengaging). The only downside is you are squishy.

Kitten, the reason cele is meta in pvp is thieves and burn guards and shatter mesmers. You are forcing all other professions to be tanky just to survive your initial burst out of nowhere.

And you still think thieves are up?

The problem seems to be you dont like playing a glasscannon, i’d suggest you roll a warrior then…

Disclosure: i am by no means asking for a nerf. Just stating that thieves are not that bad either….
