The people who dislike the TP do so because of either a lack of understanding of the basic economic concept it relies upon, or because they have a fundamental philosophical belief that contradicts free market principles.

orly

“a free market is a market economy in which the forces of supply and demand are free of intervention by a government, price-setting monopolies, or other authority” it is from wikipedia but any other definition I found on the net including milton friedmans quotes are similiar

and in gw2 well thats not really a free market as we have taxes imposed by the government (anet), meddling in it with interventions (patch changes), control of supply and demand (anet sets the loot tables and crafting requirements and so on)

1) Taxes are not intervention, price-setting monopolies, or “other authorities” involving supply and demand. Taxes are on the sale of items. If I had to pay gold every time I picked something up, that’d be impinging on the free market.
2) Patches do not intervene with supply and demand as a government agency. They affect the supply and demand as environmental changes. Silk scraps? Previously worthless, but once players “discovered” how to craft Ascended tier materials, silk scrap became valuable. That’s not because of Anet saying “PLAYERS, THIS PREVIOUSLY WORTHLESS ITEM IS NOW WORTH WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY MORE. THIS IS OUR MESSAGE AS YOUR GOD.”
3) Modulation of loot tables and crafting requirements are necessary in order for items to be worth more than NPC price. It’s also done as an environmental force, not governmental. Not to mention Anet indirectly controls supply and demand. It’s ideal for them not to have to do ANYTHING because it’s players that drive supply and demand.

Quite frankly, I wouldnt be complaining about Anet being “the government.” They’re pretty lax as it is. Sure you pay 15% sales tax, but that’s it. Anet does not demand income tax, that you pay for social benefits, or any of that sort.

The TP in Guild Wars 2 IS the entire game.

Unlike other MMOs GW2 doesn’t have achievement-based progression. Anything you want is gained from money.

People grind events because they don’t like/ aren’t good at playing the trade-post, the center-piece of the game.

If you ask people why they mindlessly farm auto-shot afk events all day it’s because everyone is hoping for a rare and profitable drop that will somehow elevate their wealth.

GW2’s entire game is built upon the trade-post. Without it it would instantly collapse because it doesn’t have much real, tangible depth or game-play to sustain it.

WvW is really the only aspect of the game that holds up on its own and is fairly independent of the TP. But even there many things tie to it.

Every form of progression, be it Ascended Gear or Legendaries, comes down to Gold. And that’s why everyone is trying to farm it in their own way.

This wouldnt change even if the TP did not exist in the game. Quite frankly the TP is a blessing that people dont comprehend. Seriously, do people want to see that much spam in chat?

Legendaries are not endgame. Exotic with a progessive upgrade to Ascended is endgame. Obtaining Fractal PR 50 is endgame. Legendaries? That’s the “I’m so kittening bored now that I have everything I have to waste my money on SOMETHING” content.

You really need to stop seeing everything outside of what you do as wrong…

Did I say getting a Legendary was wrong? Did I say wanting to get a Legendary was wrong? Did I say anything was wrong? No, I havent. Another way to put what I said is that Ascended gear, being top Tier equipment, is an endgame goalpost. Legendary weapons, being as involved as they are, are beyond being an endgame goalpost.

Take Twilight for example:
~500 Globs of Ectoplasm: 194g
250 Powerful Venom Sacs: 99g
250 Powerful Blood: 125g
250 elaborate totem: 98g
250 crystalline dust: 50g
250 vicious fangs: 102g
250 vicious claws: 115g
250 armored scales: 125g
250 ancient bones: 105g

And that’s just for the Gift of Fortune, at roughly 1k gold. For a full set of Ascended gear, You can spend as little as 1/2 or 1/4th of that amount if you buy most of the materials.

All content I stated guarantees a precursor. That is immutable fact. What it does not guarantee, is whether or not you will actually be able to get that precursor before you stop playing GW2 or give up on a precursor/legendary. The fact you can get a precursor and the (false) fact that you will get a precursor are two obviously, and painfully so, distinctly different things. Players would do well to realize that without it needing to be repeated like they’re petulant children.

The TP is FIFO – First In, First Out. That means if I list an item for sale at 10s and ten minutes later you list the same item also at 10s, mine will sell first.

Not… entirely true. Yes, the TP works off a FIFO system, but that only relates to specific price points. If someone sells at a price above (assuming buyer’s choice) or below your price point, they can, and likely will, sell before you.

All content does guarantee a Precursor. You just need to do enough content for that guarantee.

In no possible way is this factual.

You can drop a precursor from random mob farming.
You can drop a precursor from champ farming.
You can drop a precursor from anything related to PvE.
You can drop a precursor from WvW karma train.
You can drop a precursor from player kills in WvW.
You can drop a precursor from Borderland kills.
You can drop a precursor from the Toilet.
You can drop a precursor from the Trade Post.
You can drop a precursor from Fractals (see 1-3).
You probably can drop a precursor from structured PvP, but that’s content I dont do, so not sure about it.

The only “content” you do not get a chance at a precursor from is strictly node farming.

The main reason people champ train in Weeniedale is not because it’s a starting area, not because it drops t6 resources, not because it drops 5s a champ bag, but because it’s fast. 4 champs in 10 minutes. It’s hard to beat that sort of speed and still be efficient.

Up until ANet intervenes. And they most likely will in this case. It’s bad for their image when new players start playing and see that they have to get a gorrillion gold in order to get a precursor.

If new players are that adamant about getting a legendary, their priorities are clearly FUBARed so badly even a blind man could tell. It’s just fine for Anet’s image when people see that legendaries, for the benefit of their skin and stats, you will have to pay the price. It’s bad enough when I see someone in a fractal party with multiple legendaries, and they’re the first ones to die, first ones to complain, and ultimately leave the party. I’m under the immediate assumption that this player got hold of mommy and daddy’s credit card and bought a massive amount of gems and them sank them into conversion to buy the legendaries. I dont want to see some scrub player running around with a top-tier eye-candy item simply because it was handed out.

This seems like it’s just another poorly disguised “oh noes, i keep being undercut, quick nerf undercutting so i can sell stuf” thread.

Point being, there’s no need to fix undercutting. It happens all the time in real life, yet you dont see people complaining “oh please, stop letting them price stuff lower than me, I need to make money.” You see them dealing with it by either entering direct competition via price drops, or waiting it out to see if prices return to what they were before.

And just so you know, the reason prices are what they are for a vast majority of items is for one simple reason: undercutting.

Also, for the OP, it DOES count progress if you tell it to. If you dont accept the prompt to progress your story missions, you get left behind.

Precursors over 1000 gold and not one word about the issue from Anet.

There wont be any word from Anet is because THEY know, just as everyone else knows (and some people refuse to believe), the current price trends are because of demand from legendaries being account bound, as well as being a skin item. It’s also because there is no time limit of listings. Take spark for example. It has 12 listings that are 1250g and lower. Imagine 11 of them are bought. Assuming no new ones are listed, if someone buys that last “cheap” listing, the price immediately jumps to 1700g.
Is that 1700g the “new” price of spark? No, it isnt. That’s the new lowest listing, and likely a listing that has been sitting there for several months. It’s when new listings sit at that price mark and begin selling, that the price is established at that level. Right now 1200g is the “average” price of spark. Yet people will flip a kitten about it like they are now.

Anything you do outside of selling on the trade post, or buying from npcs, is not a gold sink. Losing potential gold because you MFed rares instead of sold them is not a gold sink. That is you losing out on potential gold. A gold sink would be if it COST a gold to craft something, or to use the forge in addition to the materials already present. It doesnt. You’re attempting to create an argument by redefining terms to fit your argument.

It does not cost you anything to get a precursor out of the forge. You give up potential profit as an opportunity cost in exchange for a chance at a precursor. There’s a very important and distinct difference people need to mind.

Extreme Precursor Inflation

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Aidan Savage.2078

Aidan Savage.2078

Everything is rising in price.

The supply of new silver is just outpacing the supply of new sinks for silver and the new supply of other items. The silver/gold prices for everything are just way up.

This is because people are doing pvp now (primarily rewards silver), the champion trains moved to edge of the mist (where bags + event completion reward mostly silver), armor repair costs were removed, nerfed bags and fewer crafting materials leads to less silver sunk into crafting, fewer people are doing world bosses for the guaranteed rare…

1) I’m still not doing pvp.
2) I dont do champ trains as often, and will run events that spawn several champs at once.
3) I was never concerned about armor costs in the first place.
4) Only the raw silver dropped from bags was nerged. YOU STILL GET THE SAME EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS.
5) World bosses are still done by everyone.

Oh, and there’s still no inflation. Prices of things are going up because of increased demand, mostly due to legendaries. When that demand ends, prices will shift back down without a problem.

[Suggestion] "Mithrilium" Weapons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aidan Savage.2078

Aidan Savage.2078

No. In order to change anything about it, you need to increase the NEED, not affect the supply. I would be HAPPY to spend 100 mithril on crafting mithrillium. I can end up with 2 fulls stacks of it in a day.

What they really need to do is change salvaging. If I salvage heavy armor, I’ve got zero chance at fabric scraps, same for medium armor. If you had a chance of receiving the other material type used in crafting the armor, prices for damask would drop down. Alternatively, REMOVE each armor craft’s insignia off fabric and to it’s main weight material, so leatherworking makes leather insignia, armorsmith makes metal insignia, and tailoring keeps the fabric insignia. The fact this is not the case already is baffling.

Because of demand. People insist on throwing around the term “inflation” and use it like that’s what’s happening. It’s not inflation if there’s a demand that drives up prices because supply is not keeping up.

In short, everyone else needs to stop throwing around the word inflation until they eventually get it right.

in Black Lion Trading Co

You are also ignoring that gem “creation” is a mostly closed system. The # of gems in the game is static not counting how many are generated through achievement point rewards.

Thats not true. Gems bought with money are created upon purchase.

That IS the definition of a static amount. If you pay $10, you get the same amount now as you did 1 year ago, and you’ll get the same amount a year from now. On the other hand, the number of gems you get for 100g is different from what it was a year ago, and it’ll be different from what it is now in a year.

And Unless you’re one of the few classes who can switch builds in a matter of seconds because it’s literally a choice of gear prefix and traits (like condi <→ power necros), a legendary is no better.

Legendaries are a skin. Nothing more. The damage and stat increase (if any) does not justify the difference in price required to obtain one.

Upgrade Component Market Getting out of Hand

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Aidan Savage.2078

Aidan Savage.2078

Upgrade extractors are priced fine because they are not intended for runes and sigils in the first place. They are intended for infusions. Which, incidentally, can rise to two to twenty times the price of the extractor.

Players used transmutation as an unintended side-effect of the purely cosmetic intention of the system to get around the inability to salvage that gear. With the Wardrobe system, your access to an unintended function (aka exploit) was closed off, and that was likely a motivating factor in Anet’s decision to make the wardrobe as it is now.

Superior runes and sigils are in high supply because there are a lot items being salvaged and the runes sold. Additionally, it’s because a lot of runes and sigils can be cheaply crafted by the crafts. It’s also furthered by a lot of sigils and runes being completely useless due to player demands and preferences.

Your first two paragraphs are baseless assumptions.

1. Infusions exceed 50g as a baseline cost if you are not using basic infusions. Some infusions will exceed 100g easily. People complaining about not being able to pull runes out of certain gear can fork out the gold for the replacement runes. Those of us that have expensive infusions or are working on them? Extractors are well worth the cost.
2. The old transmutation system had no way of determining what the skin source and stat source items were. Because of that, you had the option to shift the rune to the new piece. Well now the system knows, so the old functionality is no longer necessary. The fact it forces you people to rebuy those runes was either irrelevant in the planning phases for the wardrobe system because they never intended you to be able to do it afterwards, or it was specifically left out because you were never intended to use them in that way in the first place.

Assumptions, yes. But entirely grounded in reasonable fact.

If they’re talking about buying a Game Key, then I dont think there’s any problems with it aside from any region-based use restrictions. What I understood the question as, and answered as, was the actual account itself, as in paying someone cash for their login info.

Second, unless you speak Chinese, why would you even want to play there? To feel smug when you’re the first level 80 there? Control the markets and amass the most wealth?
