So, basically no one will use any of these items anymore. Waste of space. Can’t use em in WvW, can’t use them reliably in pve….which includes dungeons. Waste of space indeed.

Tick Tock, new game is on my clock. This game falls, when it drops…hickory kittenory dock.

For me probably.

Making all pets have 30 min cooldown just because embers are giving problems? I wonder if they considered reskinning the embers? Looks like they took the easy way out as usual (See TA/Forward-UP).

As for the performance issues: I see performance issues when zooming in very close while blasting stealth fields, are we gonna see a 30 minute cooldown on stealth as well?

Please don’t give them any ideas!!!!
I already look stupid sometimes trying to go into stealth with revealed up.

I’m not opposed to Open world pvp in any game, but with GW2 setup it just wouldn’t make sense. Mainly because of how the game has been set up thus far.

For me, when ppl speak of GvG I immediately flash to Guild Wars and the mode. I don’t think the phrase was used before then. I think if Anet sponsor’s true GvG, we will see an actual mode for it and most likely delivered through spvp. That is my personal hope anyway.

In pvp, I think it’s healthy to have a buffing/nerfing cycle. Simply to see what players come up with during each new cycle. Seeing new builds is a large reason why I play these games. Double edged sword for me though when I find builds I really like and then it’s no longer viable because somewhere someone said it was op.

In pve my perspective changes a little bit but not much. I hate the destruction of builds. I think quantity that has quality is best. With that said, GW is imo a perfect example of that. That game had endless amounts of possible combinations so you had countless builds per class. Sure, for every 10 crappy builds you had 3 good ones and maybe one OP build.

I agree with Seera’s post as to why these things happen. Just a part of the process. Nature of the beast. Basically in the MMO genre’s DNA.

GW1 Nostalgia -- Why not just PLAY GW1?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Akari Storm.6809

Because it’s antiquated. Since I occasionally have the sentiment you’ve mentioned, I can at least explain where it comes from.

First, I don’t want to play Guild Wars 1 anymore. After sinking 2000+ hours into it, leveling up 8 characters, beating the campaigns a dozen times through, I’m just spent on it. Yet, the ideas the game presented were valuable and should be ensconced in Guild Wars 2 as its ancestor.

1. The skill system in Guild Wars 1 was unrivaled, in my opinion. One could spend hours pouring over the skills and potential synergy between them. There was so much creativity, and the attribute system only enhanced that.

How could Guild Wars 2 address this?

They could first allow more flexibility in the trait system. I can’t see reason why we’re not allowed to adjust are traits up and down – that’s basic functionality. The ability to save gear and skill templates would also be greatly desired. I’d love to see gear function the same way it does in PVP, but that’s pushing it. The skill system in GW2 needs to have the same flexibility seen in GW1 and it falls short of that for me. There’s always this pervasive feeling of restraint among the skills, as if they don’t want a class to be fully sufficient at anything – healing, damage, control. The lack of specialization in this game hinders the variety that was seen in the first game.

2. The trinity. I really believe that ArenaNet threw the baby out with bathwater by removing the trinity ( and questing, but that’s a whole ’nother topic). I loved healing, on both my Ritualist and Monk. I had hoped the Monk to carry over, but it was reincarnated as the Guardian. They could have done a lot with the classes by allowing full on healing – the Guardian, the Elementalist, and the Necromancer all naturally lend themselves to healing.

How could Guild Wars 2 address this?

They need to allow specialization, remove the restraints, and allow characters to actually play the way they want. All of the classes at this point are so close to each other that there is lack of coordination, leaving the game feeling chaotic or zergy during group content.

3. Quests and Missions.
Call me old fashioned, but I love quests. The way the original game presented them was fantastic, and you got to experience the lore more vividly. The profession each had their own classes, and I loved how the ascension worked. It really pulled me in. The missions were great for groups as well, they’re far superior to the inconsequential personal story.

How could Guild Wars 2 address this?

Allow quests and mission to flesh out storylines, particular the heavy hitters of lore. The factions in particular could benefit from mission arcs and daily quests, player could even work towards a dwelling in the base of their faction. There could be research quests by the Pact or minigames in the cities. There needs to be more concrete gameplay than Hearts. It’s not enough.

I pretty much feel like this.

Do we need a new PvP game mode?

Akari Storm.6809

Short answer to question….yes!

I had some ideas on fixing WvW, but that would need a large overhaul.
1. Create 3 factions with actual faction leadership npc’s instead of the no named bodies we have now.
2. Scrap the current WvW maps in favor of a hollowed out version of the current PvE world and call that the mist.
3. Keeps/Towers/Camps in each of these maps hold a buff on Npc leadership. Taking keeps reduces buffs on leadership making them easier to kill, less and less body guards and such.
4. Remove points.
5. When head honcho leader is killed, that ends the match for that faction and their ability to get certain rewards (6) at match end. Without leadership you can not own closed property. Meaning no doors.
6. At match end an Npc vendor shows up with exclusive rewards such as skins/minis and maybe even components to craft a precursor(reserved for the winner).
7. Could even implement a Leaderboard that shows stat tracking…lords killed, camps taken/defended and such.
8. Larger maps would almost certainly be detrimental to the zerg defense.

As far as Realm Bonuses go, have that be a donation process much like players donate to guild influence. A player chooses a faction for the week. Feats completed by player in WvW goes to your home realm.
Basically it’s like your supporting your home realm no matter what faction you play for.

This I think would lock up some of the open space in coverage which is really what WvW is about currently. 3 factions just would lessen the uneven splintered state among servers we have now while giving us some decent rewards to actually fight for.

This idea of mine kind of resulted out of me remembering city Raids years ago in WoW with a bit of AV thrown in. War felt that way too the short time I played that.

As for Spvp…

What I would like is something like Fort Aspenwood (FA) in the original game. It was basically a spin on Tower Defense. /wiki it if you need an explanation.

CTF I’m not very fond of in many MMO’s. The only one I kind of liked was Huttball in SWTOR. Mainly because of the map design with traps and different levels coupled with the ability to pass the ball.

Death Match isn’t something that I personally would like either. I think that would sponsor an even larger bunker mode than what we have currently with conquest mode and it’s objectives.

I would also recommend that we get what has already been suggested many many times. Something like GvG in the original game. 8v8 GvG in GW is probably the only pvp mode I have literally sat there and watched like it was a real sport. Even Heroes Ascent (HA, /wiki it), was very watchable. If Anet wanted Esport, those were the two modes that screamed it and should have been emulated.

I resubbed to WoW yesterday and leveling my pally healer(87) and a DK tank. I definitely prefer the trinity over straight dps.

I too prefer the trinity. I think fulfilling actual roles gives more weight to a grouping concept. I look at it like sports or even the real world military, or heck even one being to the next. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. Everyone can’t be and isn’t the same.

Let’s take Basketball. Very few players excel at more than one single thing. Those that do are usually considered Super Stars. Every team has holes because one player or one type of player can’t do it all. You have ballhandlers/directors, shooters, slashers, shot blockers, rebounders, defense only players and 3pt specialist. Create a team that has all of these bases covered and you have a real chance at being competitive for end season play.

When the only real role that matters is dps, it just sends the complexity of the group mentality into the toilet. Not saying you can’t have fun in that system, just saying it’s not all that deep and rewarding. I have yet to feel like I’m needed beyond a slot.

yeah, I see a thread necro.

Even so, I agree. The casting of skills while being able to move is why I can’t stand in another MMO for too long.

I don’t mind non-voiced text based questing and what not so that isn’t a deal breaker for a game that has that set up. The problem I face is that I no longer want to experience rooted attacks with a hit chance or no longer want to be hit by homing spells. I can’t get into those games anymore for that reason alone.

I suggest you take a look at the wiki. You have to take into account all pieces of info from both games. All the lore about each race/sub race, God/Elder Dragon… their killable offspring and ofc, the Demons.

From what I can tell:
We don’t know where the Gods are from and the extent of their power. We know they can be subdued. We know they have power over Magic as they have given it to many of the races of Tyria. They are known in many realms(but oddly enough, realms that inhabit the races of Tyria +/- a Demons)

We know Elder Dragons eat magic. We don’t know where the Elder Dragons are from and the extent of their power.

We know both can be subdued. We don’t know if they can be killed.

Zhaitan may or may not be dead. We just know that we have stopped him for the time being.
Abaddon isn’t dead.
Dhuum isn’t dead.

On the off chance that the Gods are actually stronger the Elder Dragons, they don’t mess around in Tyrian affairs. All they do in the first game is show favor, blessing you with minor buffs. They don’t intervene at all. Not since they went to war and eventually imprisoned Abaddon and then left Tyria for good shortly after.

My suggestion is to have Racial Titles. They are account bound titles, which means they can be access by any character, only after they have been unlock. These titles can be unlocked only by playing that specific race.

- Each race have 10 titles to open. (Some of these titles have more tiers to open). When all of specific race titles are maxed, it opens 11th title what are something like this:

- Asura: Lab Genius
- Sylvari: Champion of Pale Tree
- Charr: High Tribune
- Human: Commander of Seraph
- Norn: Hero of Hoelbrack

When each of these races highest titles have been achieved (totally 55 titles, 10 racial from each race + 1 of each of these racial highest titles) there will be open one more title:

God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals 2

So in this way, Guild Wars 2 will have one most prestigous title, like Guild Wars 1 have. Which can be transferred to Guild Wars 3, if this will be out.

Agreed with everything you said up until you actually labeled the last title. Pretty good idea up until you actually wrote God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals….2. Maybe there should be top ranking overall title…just not that.

For all of the things I didn’t like about SWTOR, a shining victory to me was the fact that they gave me many opportunities to to do the wrong thing while being either faction. Added: Because of things like aegis and blind, big skills that you want to hit should have some sort of set up anyway. A cheap expendable skill, better if the skill can be spammed. To me, that’s what auto attack is for.

Don’t think it would be a big deal giving us the option of turning it off in all modes.

Off topic, I want the retribution visual to be turned into an actual shield….minus the shifting of the color spectrum prism effect.

Yeah, totally agree that Kryta is not the humans last stronghold. Cantha’s dominate race last I checked was humans. Humans in greater number than all of Tyria (the continent) it would seem.

Makes sense to me that Sylvari has less numbers overall simply because the race is only 25years old.

Who knows what’s going on in Elona or other continents not disclosed yet( the globe in the chantry of secrets cleary shows other continents). Humans may be thriving in those places. Pale trees may have an abundance of civilizations beyond Tyria. There may be places where dragons never went into slumber. There could be huge cities of highly evolved Grawl out there.

There could even be entire areas where Giganticus Lupicus still reside and thrive. Oh yeah, I have a firm belief that the Mursaat are just beyond our sight and they are amassing an army of genetically enhanced Jade Armors to combat not only the dragons but all of the races that stand in there way of taking back what was once theirs.

And also, I agree that just scrapping leaderboards for fractals would be the best idea. Having leaderboards for fractals makes no sense. PvE leaderboards for things like Challenge Missions made sense (in GW1), but not fractals.

Agree! Challenge missions and it’s leaderboard seemed to be built with each other in mind. Leaderboards for dungeons just doesn’t garner my interest at all. Perhaps there is a fraction of a fraction of players who actually would care about something like this.

The ap leaderboard doesn’t make sense to me either. Mainly because of the temp content. A new player will never reach anywhere near the top because of the lost aspects of temporary content. The pvp version kind of makes sense.

What about ascended gear being taken down from the amount of sets we have, to a smaller amount of sets that have selectable stats?

For example, Berserker, Rampager, and Knight’s gear would be put into a single item set, and you can choose between those three stat sets similar to legendary weapon stat selection.

Giving each set only three different archetypes would still have people crafting different pieces, if their build called for a stat set that wasn’t available on their current set of three, but it would greatly reduce the acquisition period, as you would have alternatives available at any given time. It would also set apart ascended from legendary, as ascended would not have all stat types available at any time, but only 3.

I love this idea!!!! Even if it were just 2 I’d be happy with something like this.

This is so untrue. If you go to the Warrior forum, they like a lot of things yet never get the nerfs they deserve.

ArenaNet discriminates against Thieves, there are no other reasons for this.

That’s because all they play are warriors, lol.

TBH though, doesn’t matter what game it is….thief/rogue archetype always gets the most hate….the most nerfs that really destroy the fun in playing those classes. Might be a blanket statement across most games, but it also seems like this play type is almost never represented by dev players. Not vocally anyway.

I’m not sure how biased the devs can be towards each class, but we are human so. People will be people. I remember a long time ago in another game something a dev once said " Frost mages are balanced at high end pvp, and that is what we balance around, so we will not be nerfing them. It would be cool if we could find a way to nerf them at lower skill levels while keeping top end arena balanced though".

The same dev then goes on to say in a different thread " Warriors are balanced at high end pvp, but we balance around the majority so we will be nerfing warrior burst in pvp. It would be cool if we could find a way to nerf them at lower skill levels while keeping top end arena balanced though". Ghostcrawler was my hero….yeah, no!

Nope.

Major issues:
-1 mode.
-that mode is incredibly boring and flawed
-balance is so bad it’s not even funny, even when taking in account only the 2/3 builds a prof have (implying that some prof have more than 1 decent build)
-reward structure and overall blending with the rest of the game are lackuster (might change in next months, but it’s too little too late)
-the overall combat system doesn’t allow to have deep mechanics in combat. Compared to Gw1, where you have hexes, enchantements, tide-changing interrupts, real team play, base holding + CtF + kill the lord + deathmatch in a single game mode, and so on, Gw2 just looks like a bad joke.

Totally agree.

GW2 missed the esport train by throwing out what actually made GW pvp good. Maybe in GW3.

Secondly, having to earn skill points for PvP skills makes no sense to me. The entire point of sPvP is that you go in and you are set for PvP, with everything unlocked. That’s part of the selling point of this game’s PvP versus the boring grinding in other MMO PvP modes. Most people are probably swimming in skill points but this removes potentially game changing choices away from new players and is, in principle, against the spirit of sPvP. Leave that for PvE and WvW.

On the fence about this myself. I played GW so I’m familiar with unlocking everything in a structured and balance oriented version of pvp. After unlocking every skill for my pvp only characters I looked back and thought how pointless it was. I would have rather have had everything unlocked like here from the get go but understood the reason why it was. That system later included any additions like inscriptions. Then came the PvE only skins which I thought were a nice addition even though I hardly used any.

Using skill points to unlock skills is ok for pve, but what about those players who only spvp? If they can’t earn skill points at the same rate then I see a problem.
It’s already a problem having skill points as a currency to craft many of the money makers. Skill points used in crafting would be ok with me personally if it weren’t 50 here, 200 there. Right now I don’t think we need to be pulled in another direction if we play all aspects of the game. Then again, since they introduced the scrolls, if you champ farm you won’t notice this being a big issue.

Just wondering how it’s going to work for those who spvp only and for those who play all aspects of the game. If I unlock in pve do I get the skills for spvp and vice versa. I generally gain a skill point every dungeon or so, I hope the rate at which spvp only players gain skill points is the same. Guess I’m just not clear on how skill points will be handled for spvp only players.

You should just go ahead and make the suggestion because we shouldn’t have to dual wield if we don’t want. I’m all for more options with more skills.

Only down side, you would lose some stats and if using ascended items you would lose infusion slots.

Why? Because the Gem Store has almost zero weapon skins. These are the only few that you can outright buy without the gamble boxes. You introduce these and then get rid of them.

I have never played a game of this type that brought in so many things just to get rid of them.

Sure, they may come back down the road somewhere…but one can never assume anything not set in stone to be true.

Point I’m trying to make, stop taking away the items and/or content you introduce. I personally am getting tired of it. From comments I’ve read in other threads on this forum and many others, I am not alone in this view.

If you remove items from the Gem store, maybe you should think about putting them in game somewhere.

CDI Topic: Rewards in PvP

1.) I would like to see skins that drop exclusively in PvP, but have the ability to be converted for use in PvE.

5.) Let us keep earning our rank banners. I am level 40 atm, I have been working my tail off toward high end ranks. Don’t stop our progress please. It’s just time wasted. It would be akin to you guys saying Legendaries are being taken out of the game and only the people that have them now get to keep them. It’s unfair to those of us that have been working on our ranks and aren’t there yet. It’s not for lack of trying or a time investment. I have spent HUNDREDS of hours on sPvP.

6.) Give us access to all the emotes we have earned. For example /rank1 would do a bunny, /rank4 would do a wolf.

Totally agree with these three points as they are also my experience and view.

PvP exclusive armor/weapon/tonics/back items. I think it should have been that way since day 1. Why? Um, mainly due to doing different things to earn different rewards is inherently more appealing to me than doing different things to earn the same rewards. By things I mean game areas (pve/wvw/spvp). By rewards I mean skins.

Note: I do not need rewards at all to partake in pvp. Most of my characters are in early skins still. I mess around in pvp because I always find that playing against other players offers a lot more variety and exhilaration than what scripted AI offers.

Been wanting access to all the emotes I have earned since the day I started looking to get wolf. Got it, spammed it. Now I don’t have it anymore and I really want it back.

I personally want ranks to stay even if I was the only one to see it. Why? Mainly because it’s an easy way to track my personal progression. It’s the reason there are levels in any game right?

Beyond that, do what you wish…won’t make or break my decision on whether or not I play the mode. I think that part of the player base is pretty much set at this point. I feel that rewards aren’t the reason why people aren’t playing spvp/tpvp. Issues are much deeper than that.

Concern #1; Earning gold though pvp. Won’t this be even more incentive to farm match wins?

Concern #2; Ranks for me was the only barometer to detail my personal progression. /Rank also held nostalgic value due to my time in GW1 so I enjoy having more emotes and not less. Besides, those emotes are decent imo. Why get rid of something that actually shows some connection to this games predecessor. Revamps are fine, but this game has taken away what substantially feels like more than it has given over the past year since launch.

I hope what I am hearing is that you can earn rewards in pve and then convert them to pvp and vice versa via the skin system. I hope what I am hearing is that much like GW1 we can just unlock pvp skins, perhaps then craft them and then convert to pve instead of having Rank tied to skins essentially.

Overall (For Me),

I don’t tourney. The classes are too muddled for me. The combat itself (moving and casting in movement) is what I’m looking for in future games, but with the variety that GW1 had or the defined roles that trinity games have. Even the skill setup is lacking here. The condition/boon system is totally a step down from what was in the first game. Everything here is stun or spam your entire bar. What is the point of having condition removal if as soon as you pop it you have the same condition placed right back on you?

Lack of modes is another factor, but it appears that something is in the wings for that.

I play around with pvp here extremely casually and stick to hotjoins and WvW. Spvp for me is not about the rewards at all. It’s about doing something else to break up time spent doing pve in a combat situation vs other players. Spvp in hotjoins is just enough to be fun without being serious about it. Trying to take pvp serious in this game would be very difficult because of how the classes/gear/conditions/boons are structured.

The consensus I take away from talk with guildies/friends/forum posters in general on many of the mmo sites is that pvp here just isn’t that good.

I don’t think there is going to be some huge influx of players due to a rewards revamp. I do think that rewards have little to do with whether a player will indulge in spvp at all. If it were good(like GW1) pvp, the mode would speak for itself, probably wouldn’t even need rewards.

Eh, not my game so….

Hmm, want to change rewards…fine by me. Should actually leave in the rank progression and /rank emotes though. Connect more to GW1 and not less imo.

Want fair, get rid of WvW being separated by servers and create 3 factions. Red/Blue/Green stays and alternates, but have 3 factions.
Open up the current BL’s and EB’s, bring in EoTM to all servers. Get rid of the excess, maybe eliminate a few. Now the 3 teams will all have coverage, and any place that actually has a que will give even more reason to hit up EoTM.

Seasonal play like this makes more sense to me in something that is balanced like Team Based GvG ala GW1.

I think that the way Planetside did it makes the most sense.

On topic. It’s over. The season is over. Doesn’t really matter to me who gets what now. Fact: We all know that you can have the best tactics in all of the realms and still not pull off a victory because of pvd coverage issues.

WvW doesn’t have that x-factor that rewards strong tactics over numbers like say for instance a GvG map in the original game, AV in WoW , Legacy of the Foefire here or even real war. I’m talking strategic strikes at a certain objective. Take out one key person or system and that could be the end to the war or battle.

Last Halloween they had Reapers Rumble, a moba style map complete with invisi bushes ala junglers. Didn’t return this Halloween for w/e reason.

Southsun survival reminds me of the Hunger Games. Katniss Everdeen bows for everyone. Your hunger is actually a debuff eating away at you until your dead. Traps galore. Everyone starts out (well at first) immobilized awaiting the start to grab weapons. It sort of changed, now you can get a shot in before the timer starts and games seem to go a lot quicker now. Not certain what happened.

I liked Reapers Rumble and I like Southsun Survival. Just wish they allowed us to get glory like we got during Lunatics Inquisition this past Halloween. Then again the whole pvp reward system is going to be overhauled if I remember correctly.

I would like more objective based pvp beyond the conquest mode. Reapers Rumble like most mini games had it’s own set of skills which meant that everyone is on the most equal playing field. Would be nice to get some choices like we had during the Snowball Fight last Wintersday. Liked that one too.

I believe during one of these livestreams it was said that more modes are actually in work for Spvp and I’m pretty happy about the prospect.

Removing Race Restrictions on Cultural Armors

I wouldn’t have a problem with racial/cultural armor could be obtained through some sort of rep obtaining mechanism. What I would want is for this to be in stone and not have a workaround like Order Armor sets. Give us something to work for.

The gem store item set (Flamekissed) and it’s basic likeness to Human T3 was poor judgment imo because not only did only one set get singled out but it went for basically 100g cheaper. Didn’t make sense to me. Never mind the fact that these new skins are reskins as I think that on one hand that’s completely lackadaisical one year in, but on the other I understand as Armor creation can’t be easy time wise when trying to do for multiple races/body types/multi genders and such. Then after thinking of that I am reminded that we have the sets like Magic Tech and the Aetherblade stuff or the Town clothes we have received.

Agree. To this date I think GvG/FA and even RA/Halls were some of the best pvp experiences I have had pvp wise in any MMO type game. Mainly because it felt much like Magic the Gathering to me, but with teams and more allies at any given time. Felt very balanced even if meta revolved around FOTM builds many times.

I always felt that it was pretty balanced and that balancing occurred to actually change the meta around to see what players would come up with.

I also felt that it had infinitely more depth as you would always see something new. You had natural frontlines midlines and backlines with players building for actual roles like mentioned in the first post, interuptors/pressure/spike. You had boons that made sense. You had enchantments. You had skills that you actually had to set up to get them to work:

Honestly if I had the cash (lol), I would take the GW2 world (minus Scarlett) and totally recreate the build building system GW had. Energy management and all couple with some on demand spammable skills you have here. I would also bring back the condition system of GW as I think that fit infinitely better.

So lvl 90 coming soon?

Wouldn’t do much for me as most times when I hit level 80 I am still in level 50/60/70 gear so I would most likely still wear 80 exotics/ascended til 90.

The only place where it makes sense is in the trait category. Upscaling and downscaling and power creep would keep you on par with content possibly giving you more damage during the times of downscaling. Would just expand on what you could do with builds you already run but ultimately even out to what you can already do because stats would increase also. Hp’s would probably be enough to compensate for the increased 10/15/20-25% damage increase specific traits you can take.

Pointless imo.

Power Creep is a real thing. It’s not an exaggeration and this would certainly be power creep.

I just saw the Wintersday 2013 video..

I’ve seen a few wearing these items. I think they should stay. I don’t ultimately dislike reskins overall as having played many MMO’s where this practice is actually common place.

My only problem with the practice in this particular game is that we are only a year in. You usually see this sort of treatment during expansions where old skins get a revamp. Makes even more sense in those games where gear is tiered and the reskins come back as a tribute to the nice looking items that once were the staple of the tier.
My largest memory to date for something like that was back in WoW with paladin T2 judgement rainments. It came back as dungeon gear in TBC expansion (in a different color) and was pretty much well received.

I think that example works because the previous gear was hard to get (in entirety), and the new set allowed for easy access to the set.

The largest problem that I had with the light Flamekissed set was that it gave access of Cultural armor sets to all Races and for an extremely high discount. If you want to make the exclusiveness of the cultural sets non existent across the board, then do it…across the board. Don’t throw them in the gem shop. My opinion anyway.

Overall, in a game this young with virtually no new sets in game TO BE EARNED BY ACTUALLY DOING THINGS IN THE GAME, I think this practice of using reskins and tossing them into the gem store leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

About 70% of the decisions being made with this game is actually starting to make me dislike it. I don’t know what this is anymore. This game is beginning to feel a lot less like an MMO and more like a train wreck.

a n o gram.

Stuff like this is actually sitting in the back of my mind when I log in. It kind of ruins my experience in game. I’m getting to the point where I’m thinking of this as less of a game and more of some Corp trying my patience.

I am not a dollar sign. I’d rather wait for actual new stuff then to get rehashed old stuff (reskins and more flames) over and over again and then thrown into the gem store awaiting purchase.

Then I find out what actual skins were put in there and blam, Cultural gear! WvW only gear! Next thing you know we are going to have Dungeon Armor in the gem store.
Next thing you know we are going to have Legendaries reskinned with flames in the gem store.

So wait a min, more flames? More reskins?
Wow!

I know players will buy this stuff, but c’mon. Instead of doing flames over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, can we get:
Foefire
More radiant
Shadow Shadoe Chado (like the grinning ghastly shield)
Branded
Aura imbued stuff

I mean at least make the fire flame stuff with the option of being abled to be dyed. 1 year in and I don’t think I have in my 14 years of playing MMO’s seen any game reskin so much.

Not going to say lazy as I’m sure anet’s hands are full behind the scenes but I can’t help but think it. There was a meeting and this passed muster, somewhere a long the lines no one says to themselves " Don’t we have this skin already?", “Don’t we have enough flame themed items in game so far?”

BTW, I already wear pieces of the WVW med armor set on my thief. I personally will never buy this. I like it because the coat is one of the better looking ones to me. It also was nice that WvW had it’s own skins just like every other part of the game.

What’s next? Dungeon Armor in the gem store. Dungeon armor “ON FLAMES” (in my Jon Stewart from half -baked voice) Everyday I’m getting closer and closer to just giving up on this game.

Edit: Cultural armor in the gem store….GGANET, wow

Well they haven’t delivered on the new skills/traits one at all…

WHAT??

How about Antitoxin Spray??
Not enough for you? What are you, some entitled scum that holds companies up to their words and promises?

AND it was a mere 25 skill points (or 5 gold and 250 pristine toxic spore samples) for which you got a heal that is sort of good in one area and healed you for about half of your regular heal.

A bargain.

(I used it in the tower cuz I thought, hey, that’s what it’s good for. Kept dying. Switched to my normal heal skill, stopped dying). :/

Totally agree, the heal sux in comparison to the heals I normally use.
The thing about that vendor, I would have paid for that healing skill had I not found out by chance that I could just use 25skpts. With all the champ farming going on and skill point scrolls dropping like candy, who would spend 5g?

My guess is many because like I said, I just found the skill even being there by chance and I feel that if I made that mistake, others may have too. Could be wrong.

The problem is that without Trinity, we get Berserker.

That is, having three possible roles to play is a lot more than fun than having just one.

GW2 wanted to do with at least eight professions with different play-styles which can be further customized, but because of how the game is built, your only route to success is to DPS, DPS, DPS, dodge, and DPS.

So people aren’t complaining about abolishing the holy trinity per se. They’re complaining about not replacing it with anything better.

Easy pve is still easy in any gear set hard pve is imposable in Berserker. Have you tried any of the real hard pve?

Sorry, I didn’t know players used defensive gear in fractals 51-79 and arah. Would you like me to link you to all of the videos of solos and full berserker teams completing them? Also to everyone else, berserker gear is not a problem just because you dislike it, if you don’t like it then don’t use it, just don’t be surprised if you get booted from groups.

“just don’t be surprised if you get booted from groups”. Really? After playing this game for the past year, I have yet to see a group actually boot someone for gear choices. Why? because I have yet to see a group actually wanting someone to ping their gear. Speed run or not. Seemed to me that those groups asking for such on lfg.com were the last to filled…I did say “seemed to me” so I could be wrong.

I don’t have a problem with them being able to be obtained via the fractal dungeon.
Give them the same cost as dungeon runes, but instead of tokens…fractal relics.
Give them a chance to be upgraded through minor and majors via the mystic forge.
Give them a chance to drop on exotics for sup/major for rares/minor for greens.

Keep things consistent imo with how this stuff is obtained.

Not sure how things will play out in actual play, but we’ve had bloodlust for some time. Can’t say I see the down side to seeing the defensive equivalent being in, yet.
I suspect a vitality version may enter the fray at some point to keep all things equal.
With the way things are going I wonder if we’ll get a crit damage version.

Oh, I’m totally with you on that. Open world is cool and casual. Guild Missions are bleh. Dungeons are decent, but I’ve run them hundreds of times. Fractals, same thing. Just want something like Raids for more guildies to do something together.

GW actually faired better in that regard. They had missions from 2mans-12mans with the standard lvl 20 stuff being 8mans. Even the zones themselves (since they were instanced) felt like dungeons to me.

Granted, in later years it became more about soloing with your heroes for everything unless you were doing portions of UW/FoW/Urgoz/Deep/DOA/SF.

Point is, I like raiding because it’s an option. I like having options. I like group content. Actual group content. Main reason I play themeparks.

When can we expect raiding

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Akari Storm.6809

The problem with large group content and unique rewards is that for many people they either a) don’t want to play with large groups b) specifically came to GW2 because they couldn’t stand large group play c) don’t have the time to dedicate to a raid or d) don’t know enough people to even get a group together to attempt a raid.

I raided for years. I’m done with it. The only way I could see raids working in GW2 is if all rewards you got from the raid were obtainable on the solo level as well— which seems to be the opposite of what raid-supporters want. If there was a 25man instance that was difficult and required a lot of coordination but did not have any unique rewards then there would be no problem.

The problem comes in when the raiders want unique rewards to differentiate themselves from the non raiders (which is understandable). But what if someone wants that cool new staff skin, but uh oh, in order to get it you need to get together with 24 other people, get on a voice chat program, and dedicate hours out of your day. It would undo everything they are trying to accomplish with GW2. They already had a backlash with Ascended gear and Teq.

I play GW2 because I don’t want to play the traditional MMO (trinity, raids, quest givers, gear treadmill, discriminating rewards system).

I don’t believe for a second that the people who want raids simply want it for the added skill/difficulty. They want raiding for the phat lootz to show off to others who aren’t able to coordinate and complete a raid. I bet you if they released a 25man raid but all of the rewards you could get from it could also be obtained through laurels + gold, that raid would be a ghost town after the first week.

discriminating reward system huh? Hate to break it to you but that sort of thing is already ingame.

Fractals= faster and most sensible way to obtain rings and ascended backs. Only way to get a fractal skin.

Explorable dungeons= only way to get dungeon skins.

WvW= invader skins (sure ap chest give badges, but can really plan to have that as your only source, going to need to WvW)

Edit: can’t forget legendaries. Those are locked behind everything including dungeons, well…if you are crafting them anyway.

That stuff is basically locked behind content. Won’t count LS dungeon drops so far because they could be sold on TP. Monocle/TA weapons/Molten Jetpacks are examples of those.

Raiding having it’s own skins for armor/weapons, crafting supplies, backs, recipes so on and so forth would be no different than things already in place.

Skyhammer needs more glass panels. Best map 2013!

Agree, it’s hilarious when I get knocked off. It’s just a different dynamic to me. I think people get hung up on the idea that pvp should have nothing to do with maps and environment and should be about dueling 1v1 with no real use of terrain.

Half of each map go unused is my complaint of map design. Not things like glass floors. I will say that I notice fighting everywhere in Skyhammer more so than any other map.
But still usually in direct lines point to point. The other glass floors hardly see any action from what I can tell.

This isn’t team deathmatch. This isn’t dueling. Adjust to what is given to you.

This map does show me where some classes could use some help in terms of stability. Fear isn’t something I really worry about because you should be able deal with that.

There are tells for just about everything. Things like engies shield knockback/wrench kit pull/ram launch thing, warriors rifle butt/hammer aoe KB or launch, Mesmers GS #5/focus pull, and even thieves scorpion wire can all be seen, but many times can’t be avoided because your endurance is gone. Or your block skill is on cd. Or god forbid you get caught like a deer in headlights and just can’t react to what is happening.

But those skills were put into the game, so why not give them some real use? It’s only one map. Have some fun with it. Sometimes you get knocked off, sometimes you do the knocking.

P.S. This game needs more diversity, not less. I want to see a map with lava or acid or spike traps. Fall away bridges. Ice floors. Certainly want to see more modes.

WvW Midseason Report

Akari Storm.6809

You would still have the same amount of players per map. But you could go to any borderland to fight for your faction if it were implemented at this moment as is.
Meaning instead of the 3 borderlands, I could go to 30.

I think faction pride would be stronger than Realm pride. That’s just me though.

I actually love this idea, it could potentially solve imbalance issues, unless guilds/players stack to one alliance, which is likely…. human nature, etc.. But how hold you zone the maps? Queue and get random out of 30 available? What’s to prevent stacking on say “server 12” … leaving the other maps barren? And what would that mean for people who have purposefully picked lower pop/lower key WvW servers to avoid the zergs (roamers/small crews, etc)

Just puzzling it out … But I like the idea of how it could potentially free up the queue/pop imbalance issues.

Give each Borderland it’s own name or reconstruct Borderlands into maps mimicking the diversity of the the PvE world.

For Borderlands: New Information Hud showing the entirety of the WvW arena to include all Borderlands. Que for a map as you do now, where ever you and your guild can get in to help the fight. You may even want to reduce the selection to coincide with average numbers of players who WvW on any given day.

You then begin adding borderlands as needed. EB could follow a similar format.
On the info Hud when looking at map, instead of seeing 3 Borderlands, you would see them all like as if you were looking at the PvE map. Go to a zone and do your duty.

If we got an emptied out copy of the PvE world with out all of the quest and Mobs and just the different terrain, same thing. Each zone is split into 3 factions spawn points with objectives like Keep/Tower/Supply camp taking/defending.

I’d even go the route of 1 zone to each faction where that home faction gets a small advantage like how Borderlands are currently set up. Then every other map each faction gets a similar spawn and proceeds to take from there.

I took a look at that dev stream for the new Edge of the Mist map coming. Dare I say that place looks 10x better than the current set up.

*Side note to another post, yeah… I understand TESO will be having a 3 pronged factional system. I hope it has success because that idea always seem to play out better. I played Planetside years back and it was pretty fun and had decent balance Didn’t really get to far in Planetside 2, but that system seems to work. I personally am going to be trying Wildstar because it has a lot of elements of what I’m looking for for both PvE and Open world pvp.

Edit: before I forget, you wouldn’t want to stack just one server like say borderlands 12 because you would lose the ppt for that map. The idea is to play the same as we play now, but just having a larger pool of players. More players playing for 3 factions instead of what we have, easier to cover a lot of the holes we have in coverage in any map that isn’t T1.

As for PvD, you could actually eliminate a few servers to solve potentially a great amount of that. The problem we have now is some servers just don’t have the players. Can’t get rid of them now because of the “Realm Pride” each server gets a team thing.

The pros of 8v8

in PvP

Posted by: Akari Storm.6809

Akari Storm.6809

Guess I’m doing it wrong. I never use Play Now. I always join 8v8. It’s conquest and not deathmatch so I enjoy having the slightly larger groups.

My problem is with the map design. 3 caps on a 5v5 map is fine. 8v8 should have 4 or more imo like every other MMO that has done conquest.

If you guys think that players gravitate to 8v8 because of Play now and not because of more bodies, guess we each have our own views.

With an actual mode like WvW as competition that allows for larger numbers, spvp was never going to be big. Couple that with one spvp mode and ofc it was a no go for many I wanna say.

I honestly think that the main reason spvp isn’t big is more so due to conquest being the only mode rather than 8v8 being an option in that mode. That might be just me though. Maybe having no actual roles beyond bunker of undeath or dps played a part too.

Agree, I for one loved Huttball. My only problem with it was that it popped way too often. Great game mode though I thought. Spin on capture the flag with traps/knockbacks/pulls/levels…was pretty fun.

Much better than WSG in WoW imo. For all the things I that SWTOR didn’t deliver on to keep me around, their battlegrounds were decent enough and had different modes that made my days there fun.
