Why was Karma income nerfed by ~90%?

This doesn’t hurt the players who are able to laser focus goals.

This hurts the players, new and old, who use karma for what can be called “The Starter Exotics”. This hurts players who actually like Cultural Weapons. This hurts players who want to craft ascended ON THE ROAD TO LEGENDARY.

Once again, artificial barriers like this aren’t going to make people play more. It just limits the distance between what a player wants to do and what they have to do. I like this game, but certain decisions lately have made start to look elsewhere.

As far as exotics being easy to get, well…that’s actually something I like. Not only do I like to play alts, but I like playing different builds. Reason I stayed on with Guild Wars after beating prophecies back when. Had so many possibilities. If you wanted to listen to the WoW crowd(I played that for 5years also), you should have just copied their design.
So, while we are listening to that type of player…can we get healers/Raids/Mounts?

Fractal Weapon/ No stats

It’s because the weapon had magic find on it previously, so you must double click on it to give it stats. Read up on the patch and you’ll find out this stuff.

Don’t respond if you aren’t going to read original post. Especially, especially when there is only 1 or 2, ONLY 1 or 2 post…both of which by original author.

This item NEVER had magic find. Happened BEFORE the patch. CAN"T right-click(yes, this is an option for gear that had magic find on it) or DOUBLE CLICK to bring up a window that allows for selectable stats.

As I said, this happened before the patch anyways…this post was for anet, not you. This post was to double my efforts at getting it resolved. I made 2 bug reports in-game BEFORE the patch.

Reading is fundamental.

Screw it, took a chance and used a crystal and now my weapon has stats again. Good thing I have plenty of bagdes, the crystal is probably the same price as the lowest zerk pistol on the tp. Thanks for nothing.

Noticed this last night, reported bug in game.

Fractal pistol has no stats. Was once berserker, now nothing. Adds no bonus to accumulated stats. I have equipped a few other pistols and receive their stat points just fine. This fractal pistol gives nothing.

Edit: Note, this happened before patch of sept. 3rd. Never had magic find. Has no option to right-click or double- click to choose stats so I don’t know what happened here.

Not sure what happened. Not going to use a fine crystal to put more zerk stats here until I find out what happened or anet fixes this. Not even sure I should have to use one of my crystal because this isn’t my fault.

Luarels -

365 from dailies
120 from monthly
+ how many ever you can get from AP chests

An anet rep has stated it will take on average 2 weeks to make an ascended weapon. That’s enough time to gather enough laurels just from your daily alone to make 2 weapons.

I think there are more than enough laurels that they shouldn’t be an issue to get.

Yeah, because everyone uses one character with one weapon and with one stat set up for one build.

All they had to do since weapons can’t be traded on the tp anyway is make all mats for ascended items account-bound. Remove the time-gate and everyone could make these items at their own pace.
But now, I have to consciously do dailies. I have to earn AP. I have to do Monthlies if I want even one of these items to be the best my character can be.

Not to mention the cash grab involved here. I like the way my characters look. Once I get one of these items, going to have to buy Tranny crystals all over again.

In the end, I know I don’t have to be here and will leave once it stops being fun for me. Just don’t want to see this heading down a path to make me want to leave. We don’t know that another tier or even level cap expansion isn’t coming. The good thing about this game is no sub. So if I actually want a purposeful tread mill game I will head to the many of which I have subbed before that do it better.

the problem with ascended weapons

I think the person who mentioned fractals has a point.

Ascended were created with agony in mind correct?

So if you go into a certain level of fractal maxed out on AR, weapon swapping could actually mean the difference between “Downed” and surviving.
You can’t change accessories so we didn’t see this to this point.

Time-gated means that you can’t even miss a day of crafting or that’s one more day between you and the level you want to do. Might not even find other players to do fractals with if everyone isn’t on the same page.

Then, laurels…

You only get so many laurels a year. To have them tied to almost every avenue of getting ascended items is ridiculous, not to mention that laurels buy other things. God forbid they give us actual content earn ascended items like rings in fractals. Poorly planned imo overall.

This sort of thing bugs me because it looks like a ploy to keep players logging in. The players who are going to go through with getting these weapons are players who were dedicated to the game anyway. My opinion ofc.

Why 80 players?

We’ve been consistently taking Grenth’s Temple on NSP lately with barely 15 people
(B/c everyone else is kittening around in invasions and leaving us hanging).
It used to take atleast 30 last month and even then the failure rate was noticeable.

So there’s the Answer…. Get Good, or Give Up.
(or guest on another server that is good)

PS: We almost did Karka the other night with 25 people but some jerks griefed us with a Guild Rush that spawned tons of extra mobs and we missed killing the queen by 15 seconds. That’s just plain silly.

I’m confused. Did the rush spawn more mobs because of more people passing though the area? I know the finish line is over that way, is that what mean? I have run that rush many times and haven’t noticed that it spawned mobs that weren’t going to be there anyway.

Why 80 players?

If it’s on a random timer and different for every realm then overflow won’t be an issue due to guesting I’m guessing. It’ll be because you were beat to the punch by your server mates.

I foresee this being a good thing as long as you don’t have these huge farm happy zergy living story episodes like the past two. These events + the champion loot change is what ripped players from the meta bosses. Before this change and living story, Claw/Shatt/Teq/FE/Maw/SB and others always had plenty of players. Boring fights, but plenty of players around non the less.

I bet if the meta bosses had some sort of element to them that you needed for legendary or ascended items, player wouldn’t skip these fights. Then you would have to worry about overcrowding again like back when guaranteed rares were given to them. Anet fixed that fast with a daily chest.

So much panic, so much over the top screaming. If you play the game after the introduction and don’t like it fine. If it becomes a question of the zerg with the better stats (funny in itself) ‘winning’ then complain.
The thing it that they have already done what you are telling them not to do. There is zero chance that the people responsible for the game will suddenly say Tuesday morning ‘hey wait a minute this will kill the game!’. They have already been down that road and feel that it will not ‘kill the game’.
It could very well result in people leaving. But that has already been taken into account and will probably be lost in the noise of people coming and going for other reasons.

Talk to Turbine and SOE/LA about LOTRO and SWG.

Turbine officially apologized to their players….after 2 years and going F2P and burning on last fumes. SWG…legendary story.

Im sure theyve all “taken it into account” rofl

Indeed. What happened to SWG can happen to any of these games. Game companies seem to think their decisions are made of gold plated adamantium with unobtainium rivets. It’s one thing for players to suggest what they do want, it’s another to not listen and not implement something they really don’t want.

I guess we will see. Sometimes you have to learn by doing. Took me a few hours to check out other MMO’s in preparation of me making my decision to stay or leave. I may have fun in game and have got my monies worth, but I usually speak with attendance on whether I accept the direction a game goes. If a game has a sub then I speak with my wallet too. I left SWG, WoW, Vanguard, WAR, AOC and SWTOR on a whim because of a few decisions made by devs and their companies, even when I was having fun.

After finding some live games I could venture off too, I once again came across some upcoming titles that look very promising. Icarus/Bless/BnS and Black Desert.

Ascended Gear to Kill Builds and Alts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Akari Storm.6809

Akari Storm.6809

I am of the complete opposite opinion. If an MMO is so unengaging that you have to play an alt to keep entertained then you’re doing something fundamentally wrong as a designer. I think Anet is taking one step in the right direction with ascended. Now they just have to make PERMANENT CONTENT for the next step of gear to be used for.

You are entitled to your opinion. I am of the opposite breed that has played alts or different factions/races or archetypes in any game type.
MMO’s like EQ
Fighters like streetfighter or Tekken or Mortal Kombat
Platformers like super Mario
Stealthers like Tenchu
RTS/sims like StarCraft or Civ or even age of empires.
Shooters like BF2/2142/3 (those had classes unlike something like halo)

Suffice to say, I like variety. I had 2 accounts and about 26 characters in gw. Here I have 12 or so. Every single MMO that I have played I have had at least one of every class, one of every race. Well, in games that had classes anyway. Sometimes I would even go further with genders and class per race/faction/sect/order/affinity.

Also, you see..the time-gate thing gets to me. Why? If these items can only be crafted for your account, meaning only you…what does it matter if you can put in the time to get as many items as you want? Oh, that’s right…people can’t come up with goals of things to do and have to be handheld through everything. Yay, this gives me something to work towards. Right.

Two better options would have been:
(someone posted in another thread)
Since the time-gate is once per day and everyone can’t play everyday, make it so it’s 7 per week so a player can play one day and still be on pace as a player who plays everyday. Laurels should be this way imo also.

or get rid of the time gate and make all components Account Bound and make each player just work for the items. Only hindrance is yourself. You can’t make any money making these items, or use any money getting them either.

God Forbid any great suggestions be taken into consideration like ascending exotics you already have.

These items we’re announced atleast 7 months ago, what do people expect ?

Most of the people play for character progression , some need something to work for .. People complain about 2 weeks a weapon ? It should have been 1 month per item.

I know folks who sit on 300 laurels and 300 ascended rings in their banks. Im glad we are not reduced to doing daily for the rest of the year thank you very much.

Laurels are tied to weapons too so, if you aren’t sitting on 300 laurels…you get my point. Not only does this screw over Alts/Alternate builds but also new 80’s newer player or not. Time-gates are just poor design especially when limited to per day instead of say, per week or per 3-5 days a week.

And you are wrong when you say “Most” players play for progression. You can’t know that. You may play for that because you have been trained that way, but I am in the camp that plays to
1. See Content
2. Having fun playing in said content
3. Experimenting with different looks(if possible)
4. Improving my pvp skills and have fun battling actual players

I’m not even against treadmills in general. I liked WoW for my time spent there. The treadmill there and other games like it made sense though. Power Creep, as evil akittens heart as I think it is, it serves an actual purpose in those type of games. Content is made stronger so you spend the time gearing a character to move through it. Those games also have huge content releases, more skills, more levels and ACTUAL CONTENT THAT MUST USE AN INCLING OF STRATEGY BECAUSE THE MECHANICS in many of those fights are pretty good. Most bosses actually feel epic in other games. + Raids man, I’d do raids even if there weren’t a chance at better gear, infact…I have when I was all maxed out plenty.

I think fractals may have been conceived before launch, but no way do I believe ascended items and the way to obtain were. Certainly not with any time-gating attached to them.

Remember, chest have changed since launch. Laurels came way after fractals were introduced.

Celestial gear (who is really going to put in the time for that stuff) was another test.

I’m not fooled by the “Ascended was supposed to be in the game at launch” line.

The difference between this ascended stuff and treadmills like WoW, for me anyways, is that when I did a raid…I almost always came away with something. Side grades are just as good as tier gear without the set bonuses. That was for gear, BiS weapons may never drop for you though. Thing is, those raids were fun so hunting for gear was just icing on the cake.

But, their whole game was built around Raiding. Here, you have three different communities. PvE/WvW/Spvp. Spvper’s won’t care either way.

WvW’ers are at a disadvantage for making gold. Going to need gold to buy “Named Exotics” for that dark matter. Already know those prices are going to skyrocket.

Skyrocket’s in flight, afternoon delight.

Once again. I hate crafting just because I’m held back at gathering many of mats to do so. First it was lodestones, now it’s going to be a time-gate.

Who actually had a problem with the way exotics were easy enough to get and you just hunted for skins that appealed to the way you want your character to look?

If those players are still here after essentially one year in without ascended weapons and armor, they didn’t stick around because of the prospect that it will be added. Did they? Must be something else about the game that they like if they are willing to ride along for a year.

Exotics Are Now Pointless

How many people will settle for anything less than BiS? How many people are wearing rares right now instead of exotics? I’m sure it will be far less than those who want the BiS. It’s just human nature.

(Whistles)

Over here! Hi. You were talking about me, I see.

The only reason I got Exotic armor, and the only reason I got an Ascended backpiece recently, is because I got the armor with less effort than to just “ride the event to the chest at the Temple of Balthazar and get them for karma”. Which I had truckloads of from when I didn’t have anything to spend it on worth anything to me.

(By the way, yes, I buy Lost Orrian Jewelry Boxes now. Because that Karma isn’t useful for me for anything else right now.)

Why the Ascended backpiece? When I was organizing inventory and saw I was more than halfway there and had the money? I finished it in three clicks and a walk from Black Lion to the Mystic Forge. If I hadn’t had that much . . . which I hadn’t until Monday . . . I wouldn’t have bothered.

Same with Ascended. I’ll get it when it’s not going to cost me too much going out of the way. Otherwise it can stay where it is and I won’t care.

Difference between that back and these weapons, is the time-gated portion. You are going to have to consciously work on them.

This sets a bad precedent in my eyes. Armor is only around the corner folks. You should have 1 character fully ascended (for 1 build) by 2015.

Too practical, work harder not smarter.

Actually, this is a great idea. I cringed when I saw the youtube vid and cringed some more when read the blogpost and checked dulfy. Time-gating thus far hasn’t been that bad, but this…now my OCD is going to make it so that I have to do this or it’s going to linger in my mind as unfinished business. At least until I leave this game, which is becoming more and more likely everyday.

Not to mention that I know there are many out there that hate crafting. Doesn’t actually matter what difference there is between exotics and ascended, BiS compels me to fight for it.

I am going to go ahead and say that I’m not against ascended, but I don’t really understand the need for it. The game is pretty simple as is. Why exactly do we need a boost? This game has been turning into a mess. It’s all over the place.

“Play how you want” should NOT mean “able to clear all content.”

today I saw a post by an ele complaining that in full pvt gear and a staff they were having trouble in the gauntlet and that it should be nerfed so they can get the liandri mini pet.

This attitude that no matter what you do you should get a trophy for trying makes this game an absolute joke. If everyone gets the same participation trophy why even try to play better? We need some harder content that not everyone can clear on first try in whatever spec/stat/gear combo they feel is best.

In all honesty, I think the Ele is right to some degree. In a game like this that doesn’t have roles, Anet has to realize that you should support all stat combinations when creating content.

Not talking about the Liandri fight in particular as that is a fight with one shot mechanics and a shoddy camera. Has little to do with what gear you are wearing for phase 1. Maybe phase 2, the “DPS” phase. But if you are lasting to the time limit…maybe there shouldn’t be a time limit.

No, you shouldn’t support all stat combinations. People have to accept that some just don’t work for the content they’re taking on and actually use their brains, this entitled mentality is why we have dumb living story updates where you smash auto attack to pick up loot and then when a boss like Liadri is made, endless hordes of QQers cry for nerf because they can’t do anything besides smash one and pretend to tank a boss with oneshot mechanics.

If you aren’t going to have a reason to have certain stat combinations, then why have certain combinations? As I said, Liadri fight is more about mechanics than gear, but the ele has a point…

If you have the option to have certain builds, then why can’t content be done with them?

Also, when it comes to liadri, let me know when there is a build for any class that can do here with 6 gambits. Hell, I’ll take 5 for that matter.

Builds?
How many weapons do we have in game per class with more to come?

We should be supporting options. Anet should be supporting options. I’m not against a new tier of gear. I’m not against having several methods of obtaining certain stats like everything thru exotic. It’s only when we get to Ascended that the waters get mudddledddddddd.

why even time gate items that can’t be sold or traded(previous ascended items)?
I have a few ascended characters, hind sight…it didn’t really make sense. And anet continues to go down that path.

People just want to play. Exclusive skins like fractal weapons are enough of a reward for me doing fractals.

It’s a game, we will always be handed solutions. Point is, we did the work. Kormir got rewarded. We saved her butt. She got rewarded. It’s a game. We will always do the work. But anet chose to story her getting rewarded. Granted…you can’t very well give us what they gave her, but something more than a crappy forgotten sword when she received GODHOOD for our work. Our decisions(builds not story because the story can only go one way), proved victory. Kormir wasn’t too instrumental in anything. She’s a leader of an order that was decimated. And through our gameplay, not hers we won.

As for Shiro, that was Anet’s decision again in the story to have those prevent him from unleashing another jade wind catastrophe. We as players beat his kitten though. Had Anet let us kill him, we would have.

I said I hate crafting in most MMO’s. I dislike it in this one because of the frequency of dropped lodestones and other materials. I’d rather farm mats myself than farm gold and buy them. It just takes twice as long to do so I don’t or won’t. This wasn’t directed at you anyway. So I don’t need to discuss it at all.

Thats because you are on one of the top 4 servers Akari. being on kaineng I have seen this random match up swing us from facing (we are number 12 at the time) a rank 4 and a rank 6 at the same time.

Bad luck doesnt matter. The fact is at LEAST when we got even numbers we could stand a chance… now… not so much. They will be flipping towers and keeps much faster then the low pop servers.

You did not know what it was like, or what it will do to WvW except in your little bubble. That is why I KNEW you were on one of the bandwagon servers. Its a different world up there. I have been there I know.

Outlasted mean they had a steady and significant playerbase.

EQ is still there… but it was done for many years ago now.
SW:G does not have a playerbase anymore. Its a dead world with about 2000 players.
City of heroes lasted 3 years before they were also down to a dead zone. I believe they have shut their doors now.

a handful of players do not count. I lively server that still gathers new members does. None of the ones except maybe Runescape you mentiond are GAINING players.

I still play GW. It’s not gaining players and probably haven’t been gaining players since after the release of EOTN. That was 6 years ago. 2 years after prophecies released. Been to Kaineng City recently? Been to LA? Shing Jea? Kamadan? FA? JQ? Most times these places are dead zones. Kam with one district. FA gets no playtime. People still working on titles for this game farm rep in JQ.

I went to ascalon yesterday just for nostalgia purposes and not one person was there. I even went to PRE, which was a hot spot for a very long time…maybe 2 people.

EQ/Ultima/Daoc are about as far from dead as GW is and they have been around since 6 years prior.

@Tobias, It was me and my team that took down Abbadon. I didn’t see Kormir handing out advice on how I should equip my heroes. Added, It was me and my team that kept saving her butt through out the whole campaign. Added, it was my expertise(and other players like me) that defeated most obstacles to even get to Abbadon eg, I figured out the Flameseeker Prophecy and defeated Mursaat/Titans/Lichx2/Shirox2/ and Abbaddon’s Harbingers and armies.

I was so good that I made the highest rank in her little order. I should have just killed her because she made nothing but bad decision after bad decision, but I’m a hero.

On topic: I hate that spvp has just one mode (so far), conquest.

I once hated how crafting took items bought with skill points, but that hate has diminished due to I dislike crafting in this game and now skill point scrolls of knowledge drop so…

I hate crafting because of lodestones and other t6 items that barely drop. T6 mats drop a bit more nowadays with the champ farm up and running + clockwork chaos at work, but it’s the amount of items that crafting takes. I always thought it was too high.
Don’t fret though, I hate crafting in a lot of MMO’s.

I hate one shot mechanics.
I hate content built around Dps. I know, I know. There are many who build their characters supporty or tanky, but let’s be honest. Dps is king.

I hate fixed stats on Ascended gear(so far), when there was a perfectly good system already in place not to mention an entire crafting skill line…jewel crafting.

All these things are minor though in the big picture.

Anet we need more dungeons/raids

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Akari Storm.6809

Akari Storm.6809

Ideally, what I want is a new permanent dungeon in at about every 4-6 months.

Revamping of dungeons? No, just leave them alone. That ship has sailed. AC up to last bosses were better imo. People didn’t stop doing AC because of the revamp to the last bosses, they stopped because getting to them is a hassle now. Changing the Queen Spider, Graveling and Kholer behaviors just turned the AC dungeon into a huge pain. I actually like the end bosses now better than then, it’s just that knockdowns for extended periods of time isn’t fun. Kholer get’s infinite adds now? That ain’t fun in Fractals either.

Raids. To me raids are content built with guilds in mind. Sure, in the early days of MMO’s all raids were open world. The challenging part was beating the boss with other guilds trying to snag the kill. Once instanced raids came along, it allowed for tuning of mechanics to test the skill ceilings and gear set ups of players trying to defeat it.

Guild Mission are ok for okey dokey material, but I think many of us want to hop into an instance with “LOADS” of players we actually know (usually guild members) and go fight a boss. 5mans are ok, but for me and many like me, raids were a way to do content with many in the guild. Even 10 mans would be better. 8man missions/dungeons and instances in GW1 were a nice set up. Always liked that over 5mans in just about every other MMO. Can’t forget 12man elite missions.
As many things that I dislike about WoW and it’s treadmill design, I think when it comes to dungeons and instanced raids, 99% of MMO’s are hard pressed to do better. Dungeons wise, I mean you could only skip a few mobs here and there, usually meant that you were choosing a particular route to end boss. Majority of the time though, you to fight your way to boss. Bosses couldn’t be glitched for the most part. Majority of bosses here can.

Wrong Akari

WVW players on the bigger servers will be getting them at the same pace.
WvW players on the lesser populated servers will most likely be getting them at a slower pace. And because of the random matchup system it WILL mean sometimes you are facing teams/zergs with MUCH higher stats then your side does.

Probably should have all just bandwagoned though right?

And lesser populated servers usually fight lesser populated servers right? I dunno, random matchup system isn’t that random. Can’t tell you how many times SoR has faced JQ and BG for about half a year. First week of the change I think we got a T3 server and crushed them by 200k. Since week 1 of the new change we faced one maybe 2 T2 servers. The rest of the spring and summer it’s been nothing but JQ and BG.

Redscope.

You do realize Minecraft is huge right? its not some fly by little known game.

Thats like saying because GW1 didnt outsell WOW we can ignore it. GW1 outsold and out lasted 90% of the MMO games out there.

May have outsold many MMO’s. Outlasted 90% of MMO’s though? That’s bold as most MMO’s don’t really shutdown totally. I can name a few that have, but for every one there are probably 5-10 that are still going and still going strong. 3 of the big ones I think are SW:G, City of Heroes and maybe MXO. APB and Tabula Rasa were never big. EQ, Ultima, Asheron’s Call, DAoC and many others still exist. I mean kitten..people still play runscape.

With that much difference WvW is going to be difficult against anyone with a Legendary especially since the time gating for some of the materials required to build an Ascended. It will be some time before everyone is back to an even footing.

I have killed players rocking legendaries on my level 60’s wearing greens/rares.
I have died to players (i’m sure of it) who aren’t level 80 as an 80.

Everyone will be getting these items at roughly the same pace. For every person on my server to get 1 item, my opposing servers will have the same pace of players getting these items. WvW was never built to be balanced mind you. WvW isn’t about 1v1.

WvW players in my mind were in the beginning the only players who I thought should have had a gripe with how ascended items were obtained and how it may have thrown off some balance, even though WvW will never be balanced unless you count all teams having all levels of players with all levels of gear.

They made a comment about this a while ago… if only the search function worked. apparently they believe ascended still fits into their grand scheme of no gear treadmill because they had intended to eventually add ascended when they launched, but just didn’t tell anyone about it. I wonder how many other tiers they will add, saying that it was intended to have tier 7, 8, 9, 10, etc. from the start…

ROFL … well said, and bravo

The bottom line is, that GW2 was marketed for years as a game that would not have a heavy gear grind, no must-have classes for dungeons (trinity) and no stat-based vertical progression. It matters NOT the degree in which these elements were explicitly stated or implied. Because through forum posts, feedback and pre-release write-ups – the game company fully understood that the overwhelming majority of people believed those things.

Of course pre-release there were a great many false assumptions made about the game; but quite often whenever a false assumption became widespread, Anet would release a statement that cleared things up. Among the many pre-release “assumptions” made, and repeated endlessly for months on end and in every possible venue imaginable, was that GW2 would have a power/gear plateau once you achieved lvl 80 and a full set of exotics.

As a result, thousands of MMO fans were buzzing loudly about finally finding a full 100% horizontal-progression game for every mode of gameplay: PvE, WvW and PvP. And this was clearly understood as being a fact by the vast majority of people. Interestingly, insofar as the 100% horizontal-progression assumption went, at NO time did Anet feel they needed to “clear things up” with a statement advising folks about another tier of gear and their intention to have vertical progression in GW2. Instead, the horizontal progression “myth”, despite being the single most pervasive myth/assumption about Gw2, that one did not need clearing up until AFTER the game was released and the initial burst of early sales had subsided. Funny that …

If you say so…

You guys seem to have seen something very different from what I’ve seen concerning vertical progression and this game.

Majority of complaints with this game had little to nothing to do with gear, now or then before ascended was introduced. From what I saw complaints came from having nothing to do at 80, before ascended and fractals. A huge uproar came after fractals were released and ascended introduced touting “GW survived for as long as it has without it”. Games don’t need vertical progression because of power creep. I agree there, that isn’t the case here. With upscaling and downscaling, that doubly isn’t the case here.

Anet has released ascended items so slow, you think those few items and the prospect of getting more in the future is what kept the type of players you describe? I think not. If those players do exist, majority of them are long gone. The players of that type who have stayed probably didn’t stay because of 1 tier of gear.

This is a “sky is falling thread”, just like all the other ascended item threads.

I think overall, players just wanted something to do. Getting these items and doing fractals and other content to get them is something to do. Don’t you?

I have spent zero time in any groups that called for zerk only, ping your gear. Many of my characters are brim ascended. It hasn’t mattered so far. Won’t matter in the future. I will say though I have joined fractals based on an AR level. If you want to be picking up a player all the time because they don’t have any, then that’s on you.

I remember back when GW2 was announced before EoTN. I remember reading it was that they were going to build a more traditional MMO with more streamlined classes. This first announcement trumps the manifesto in my mind. Or at least the manifesto retellings. Has anyone ever read their companies manifesto? Does your company actually adhere to it line for line? or just vaguely?

I was also playing WoW and EQ at the time and thought how great Tyria would be in that format. Well, we got it and I’m pleased, even with their spin.

The game isn’t based on a treadmill. You don’t need it to complete content. Actually, this is no different than the Magic Find argument. You can complete content with all magic find gear…but many players still have a problem with “gimping the group” in dungeons. Same argument, just a different shade of brown. “If all content can be completed in greens, why do we need exotics, if all content can be done in greens and rares, then why can’t I wear Magic Find gear without some lame crying, why are you wearing MF? Why does he care what I wear?” I personally don’t wear Magic Find and thought it wasn’t done in a practical way (totally backwards idea there), but don’t see a problem with others wearing it.

Anyhow, I like pink instead orange. Pops more.

My only problem with Ascended gear(said it so many times I think I might get it as a tattoo), is that it comes with fixed stats and totally threw out a crafting profession…jewel crafting. Hope armor and weapons don’t throw out sigils/runes.

Commander Tags (In Depth)

Akari Storm.6809

I say leave the tag acquisition as is. Why hinder tools for people who want to lead? Leaders will lead, tag or no tag. These players get known, tag or no tag.

To me, outside of WvW the tag means almost nothing. It does help with Guild Missions and events as shouting out to others that this is a point of interest. Guild Missions (every single one of them) are public, so a way for those not in guild and not wanting to party can participate and get a lil direction.

What I do agree with to some extent is different colored tags to suit different purposes.
What should have happened was:
You buy tag.
Your tag changes color based on how many are in your squad. That’s who gets ranked on giving orders.
1. 5ppl and under, default blue
2. 6-10 ppl red
3. 11-15 ppl yellow
so on and so forth.

WvW rank also means nothing. It just means that you may or may have not been following a zerg to gain some xp. Doesn’t mean you are a leader and understand tactics and strategy.

Can’t have a up vote system because that depends on how many players you can get to vote for you. Guilds have 400 ppl, bam…400 votes right there. Abused comes to mind.

I don’t know how you would improve the commander. Any other MMO’s out there have anything similar? I know FPS’s like Battlefield 2/2142/3 had a commander who could take the spot, had a top down map and would assign objectives to all the squads. You only get objective points being in squads so it paid to be in them.

I dunno. Not saying they are bad ideas, just not what I’m looking for.

If it could happen

I’d like casters with shields, so shields for light classes.

Dual Torches would be sweet for every class.
Dual Shields " " " " " "
Rifle on thieves and rangers.
Melee weps for engies.
Dual axes for every class.
Pistols on warriors.
Dual daggers for ranger and warriors.
Longbows for everyone.

Focus main hand weapons w/possible dual wield.

New weapons:

Fans (I guess you could make these into either a dagger skin or a focus skin)
Tomes (similar to guardian elites, but for all magic users) Necros get book of the dead =)
Whips or Flails or Chain Swords
Psy gauntlets ( could maybe make these a dagger skin) think psylocke from x-men.

On land spears/pole arms (I would add lancers, but without mounts…wouldn’t make much sense)

Melee staves.

All the crazy theories about everything.

OP, if it were that way it would answer the biggest question I have, “what happened to the Gods and why don’t they have a position in this battle against the dragons?” Then again, with what happened to Zhaitan, the gods may not really see the threat how we see it.

I will say though, if Glints lair is any indication of what a dragon can do I wouldn’t be surprised if the world has that sort of twist to it. But, we have Ogden still around who has been around since GW. 250years of keeping an Elder Dragon and destroyers at bay.

I do think the dragons have some influence over many more players in high places though. I think with seeing how Zhaitan was handled it would be dumb for an Elder to not exhaust every avenue to rid the world of what they don’t want in it. These creatures aren’t dumb, Glint was pretty smart and only a champion.

On/off topic. We are actually in a matrix of sorts. An MMO Sims game from a far distant future (relative to the time we see the world in). We are all toons (humanity). We creations made by some gaming company being played by customers.

Should *Commander Seals* be removed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Akari Storm.6809

Akari Storm.6809

Personally I think their usage has been fine thus far.

In my experience in WvW commanders have been doing a decent job overall of leading large groups to at least try to accomplish some things. Even the bad ones.

In PvE, all it really does is give players a point of interest.

In either case it’s up to players following these tags around.

I will say that in PvE it shouldn’t be removed for the sake of replacing it with guild only tags as Guild Missions aren’t just for guilds as ALL guild missions thus far are PUBLIC. Any player can complete parts of any guild mission and these tags help with a little direction. They really aren’t that different than someone calling out a waypoint and giving direction through mapchat, party chat and whispers.

If your problem is with the zerg, the way things are tags wouldn’t change a thing. It’s not hard to find out where a zerg is heading once you learn the routes and god forbid you ask someone.

It was intended as a money sink for WvW as PvE has icy runestones for legendary items. The game needs more money sinks. Not less.

I am actually for having different colored tags, but not because a blue tag usually has a zerg with it. I’m for different color tags to serve different purposes. Small squads should get one type of tag. Guilds should have their own in house tags for guild only events.

In wvw though, since the maps are so small…probably wouldn’t make a difference.

People want to show off prestige in wvw. I get that. I would definitely be for having badges awarded to players to show off accomplishments (much like the star for world complete) to other players. Ranks only being able to be shown to adversaries kind of diminishes my want for them. I want to be able to show that to everyone all the time.
Don’t get me wrong, I do like the perks of ranks…specialist in certain areas.
My 2cents anyway.

See, what they should have done is add a named boss to each zone. That boss has a chance to drop a skin. Then add another skin to dungeon end bosses.
Then made DE’s important by adding the boxes to those.

The Champs should have received an update to loot, but not to where it is….or make them scale. Defeating champs should take as much time as it takes to successfully complete a DE. Rewards should be similar. If Jormags Breath dropped more frequently, or killing the claw provided you with a mat you can only get from it, people would not forget to do The Claw of Jormag fight.

If they add anymore updated weapons skins (there are so many in game atm anyway, Hello crystalline blade, Hello bow of the ivory bow stag, Hello phoenix w/e axe just to name a few), I hope they do them justice.

Remember, players have had many of these items for years already. So they have a place in the mindset of Tyrian vets.

I too was a little thrown off on how plain the Fellblade came out, but that was offset by the Centurions Claw (dagger), which I still think is one of the best dagger skins in GW2. I use it now and have since launch and still get asked about it/them. Actually, sometimes when I throw up the Fellblade I get asked about it also. Anyhow, I would personally dig an update to the smoke effect.

Whatever you do though….stay…..away…from…the…gnarled staff skin. Nice looking staff.
So, no reskinning of Gnarled Staff and absolutely no reskinning of the Centurions Claw.

By the way, I have wishes for: IDS/FDS counterpart-Vampiric Dragon Sword
Torment and Gloom Shields
Pincer/Talon dagger skins
Platinum Blades
Katanas (eh…came in with cantha so, not sure if we’ll see them however, we do have daggers =) )
Dragon Kamas (Dragon Scythes originally before dervs).

And it’s about time we get some dye slots on weps. IKIK, totally off topic…I’m drunk, sue me.

In gw you had to have at least 4 pts in death magic to make that skill work if I am correct?

So if it were put in, it could be in a trait line. However, aren’t skills locked upon entering a tourney? I could be wrong. If I am right though, you would have to equip the skill beforehand and also be into a particular trait line.

Anyhow, creating builds here isn’t as robust as GW1 and definitely doesn’t have the ability to use 2 professions. If only.

So it’s probably not needed.

I’d welcome it also. Maybe the content is being worked on or at least being drafted up. I mean it’s not like we haven’t been facing the Claw and Shatterer for as long as we have been facing Teq and also his liege. Those threats are in Tyria(the continent) so I imagine Jormag and Kralkatorrik aren’t far behind.

If we do get an expansion I personally hope we start knocking out Elders two at a time. Would also like to know what happened to the gods. What Cantha and Elona are like today. Maybe even what other continents are out there. Maybe even what other planets are out there. Hey, maybe some more insight into the mist. Figure out another entrance to FoW and the UW. If there are other demons like Kanaxai. If there are other undiscovered humanoid races on the planet. If there are links to alternate realities. If Elder Dragons are actually the largest threat in this reality.

Also would like to say that it’s only 250yrs later, while many things change, those other realms like FoW/UW/Torment and its domains/lairs like Glints old place, The Deep and Urgoz have been around for a lot longer.

Zodiac weapon skins!!

This is a comparative of Zodiac Gw1 vs Zodiac Gw2.
And again Gw1 is far superior in zodiacs.

Yup, Far superior. Earlier I went and took a look at all of the GW1 Zodiacs an just shook my head. Even though I dig the shield, the old one looks better to me. The old axe was baddkittens and the bows were sick too. Don’t know what happened.

If they bring anything else back, I think what people want are improvement on the details. Zodiac weapons were already a bit detailed but now kind of lost that.

U paid 100g for it, tag up if you want. You don’t need followers to have your tag on. In PvE, it means almost nothing. Who would give a commander crap in PvE? Comedy!!

Players have been using it to direct the zerg for farming, ok, I get it. But does it actually take a commander to see where there are a lot of people? You can just ask in map chat also, god forbid we use map chat right?

Players have been using it for guild missions and to show a point of interest, ok. But to actually treat them (me2,have one…) as someone who expects to be commanding anything in PvE (besides their own guild which is the other half of the reason to have these tags), is funny to me.

Look, I understand many players are sheep and take those tags serious, whether you call yourself leading in PvE or following them. Well, it’s not serious. If you can’t think for yourself during an event that practically holds your hand…I don’t know what to say.

Spvp Map Size/Type+New game Types

in Suggestions

Posted by: Akari Storm.6809

Akari Storm.6809

Just a few suggestions. Note: I don’t tourney much because I like more than 5 players per team so I join the randomness of 8v8’s in regular.

1. Maps within the 8v8 version should have another point. As is currently, many players have evolved into a wvw mindset of zerging points. The short distance between at least two points kind of supports this. One more point would simply spread the numbers a bit more and penalize for using that tactic. Seems like each game has players who speak about it.

2. Actual auto-balance should return and a non-ranked team arena of sorts should be added. Right now I’m running into a lot of games that are top heavy. True Example: I was watching some matches yesterday that had one side with lowest rank 36 vs a team of five 1’s/one 10/one 13 and the highest being rank 17. This happened for like 5 matches before I left.

Before spectator mode was put in it seemed the auto-balance worked correctly where teams seemed to be evenly matched rank wise/experience wise.

Non-ranked team arenas should be instituted if players want to earn glory while playing in large groups with other like-minded groups. Premade v Premade I guess you could say.

3. New Map Type. Personally I love the Skyhammer Map. Glass Floors that break after being walked on is a nice addition. We need more maps like this. I was thinking something along the lines of having traps/trap doors much like you see in obsidian sanctum. Pits with spikes activated when players cap a point. Make it so that you have to fight around these areas. Currently with Skyhammer, those glass floors not located near a point I think don’t really serve a purpose because as far as I can tell, no one fights there because they are there.

4. New Game Types. We’ve heard this one since launch. As far as I can tell, players (me included) want something besides conquest to play around with. We know Anet can come up with something as we have seen many of their mini-games already. Each mini game is so close to pvp and competition that those game types or something like it could be put in if better fleshed out.

We could use Capture the Flag : Aspect Arena and Snowball Fight were nice examples that this game type could work.
Moba stylie: Reapers Rumble. Where is this game type, I would play this everyday.
Tower Assualt/Defense: No example from this game unless you want to count trials as some sort of reference. Examples from other games would be like FA in Guild Wars and Strands in WoW.

Other things I would like to see is something like a 20v20 Alterac Valley map type. And definitely some Guild Wars GvG and Heroes Ascent.

Keil

Told you guys you should have voted for Evon, you brought this on yourselves.

I agree! I think this whole thing was orchestrated by Kiel. Can’t say what her motives are, but she’s not to be trusted. No one is really. Guilds from the Guild Wars didn’t just disappear, I believe they went into hiding and work from the shadows much like The Order of Whispers. Perhaps she’s in cahoots (or leads), one of these underground sects.

As far as scarlet goes, Sylvari race is young in these parts…odd that they have spread so far and have become Pirates, Nightmare Legions and Zephyrites.
Maybe Scarlet is from another tree much like another many of us has met in the Sylvaries storyline. What ever her beef is, I still think it’s weird for a sylvari to break away and then want to harm people without what seems to be any real cause so far.

At least the Nightmare Followers are that way because of something really effecting the Dream.

I gave up playing for rewards back in the day when games took forever just gain one level. Sure rewards are nice, but I don’t need em. They are just pixels. My reward is making characters and heading out on a journey with them.

That’s the same reason I can play single player rpgs over and over again. It’s all about the journey and a tiny bit of escapism in my mind.

What would I do in GW2 if GW2 had no rewards? Probably the same thing I do now. Not much would change except my time in spvp and wvw. I would probably spend less time in pve which would free up time to experience pve in other MMO’s. Just to see new worlds and stories.
